Paku for PurpleAir for Positive User Reviews

Almost perfect (watchOS?)Great app to help add iPhone features from the PurpleAir map. Any chance this app can integrate the AQI, based on location, to watchOS? I love how this app pulls up-to-date air sensor data directly from PurpleAir and the widget feature. The last missing thing to make this a trifecta would be to allow AQI based from this app to be used as an Apple Watch complication..Version: 1.4.4

Works GREATThanks to the response from the developer I now understand you can go to settings in the ap and select which conversion you want…choose between US EPA or or live “purple air”. Thank you! Highly recommend..Version: 4.11.1

Very usefulPaku is useful and easy to use. I use it on my IPhone. I wish that I could see both pm2.5 and pm10 at each detector when I click on the detector on the map, and not just pm2.5. When there are fires within 30 miles the pm10 often dominate, but I can’t see the reading on Paku. I think that is possible with the laptop client..Version: 2.0.0

Love it!Such a well designed, helpful app..Version: 5.3.2

Very usefulGreat way to view purple air data. Loads fast and displays on Apple Maps. App is responsive and easy to navigate. This is one of those apps that is just about perfect right out of the gate: does exactly what you need and nothing else. Hopefully they won’t “improve” it too much in the future. I would consider “tipping” the developers at a more realistic price point - $1-2 instead of $6 and up..Version: 1.2.1

Such a nice app with real life quality impactI’m sensitive to wildfire smoke, and this app actually allows me to monitor air quality on my block in real time. I also use it to get more accurate local temperature measurements. The app also has great design and is well built! Massive kudos and thank you!.Version: 5.3.3

Great app, super responsiveI’m updating my review to 5 stars. Haven’t tested the family plan yet but appreciate the responsive and positive change to my feedback to allow access for family members on a single device..Version: 4.10.3

Tells you everything you need to know, in real timeI am one of those folks who found Paku after AirNow updated their website to the point I found it unusable. But this app is even better!! Very accurate, real time info and very easy to zoom in and out to see what’s going on. 5 stars easy.Version: 1.4.4

Air Quality at it’s bestJust installed Paku and it already out performs other air quality apps. The information is clear, concise and current. The map portion of the app really makes it clear where locations are found. The prominent purple air stations are identifiable and easy to find. Best air quality app on the market, so far..Version: 2.1.0

Excellent for the apocalyptic 2020s!As someone at higher health risk, I appreciate the accurate data collection to help warn when wildfire smoke rolling in. It’s not great that this is an annual thing now, but I appreciate the use of citizen science to help out! Also outside of wildfire season, it has other data as well and a useful widget!.Version: 4.11.1

Lots of sensorsI love the fact that there are plenty of sensors. You can almost tell what the AQI is in your neighborhood. I use this APP daily to decide if I wear a N95 mask as my lungs are impaired. We have one of the worst AQI indexes in the country as the fires in CA get worse and our air gets trapped in the Central Valley. Thank you for providing this easy valuable APP..Version: 1.4.4

Excellent, simple app that delivers what it promises. The UI is focused on just what I want, a map with sensor data. A search bar would be helpful, but I can't seem to find it (at least on the macOS variant.) Thanks, Kyle, for you work you spent developing this and for generously offering it for free!.Version: 1.2.1

Useful app and responsive developerI had a problem with the app the first time I installed it. Contacted the developer and got an update that resolved the problem. Then I had a bogus sensor near me, so the widget wasn’t showing helpful info. Again the developer released another update that added an option to hide specific sensors. I can now see at a glance just how bad the air quality is near me. 😂😭😷 Stay safe and healthy, everyone!.Version: 1.1.3

Great AppIt boggles the mind that Purple Air doesn’t have its own app, but Paku fills the need perfectly with a well-designed lean interface. The widgets are great. Would love an option to view a temperature layer on the map (or have temp be primary in the widget). All that temp data is not getting much use (though including it in the detail view a particular station is appreciated)..Version: 1.4.4

How bad is the air today?????We don’t live near an airport so what we saw on the news might or might not be accurate. With all the fires and crazy wind shifts in San Jose it is great that we can click an app and get real time reading with in 1/4 mile of our house. I’m a Beekeeper and some days I do a lot of heavy lifting moving hives and honey. This app lets me know if it’s safe or I should wait a day. Thanks so much for making this available on line. Art Beekeeper..Version: 1.4.4

Love the widget and up-to-the-minute dataLove using widget to show up-to-date readings from one sensor. With other apps the readings seem to be hours old. Two feature requests: be able to show PM2.5 or PM10 instead of only AQI; be able to select own PurpleAir sensor on local network..Version: 1.2.1

Fantastic appThis app is much easier than dealing with the PurpleAir website and has an app for phone and for your comptuer, which is great! I find it's really useful for planning when and where to do activities when there's smoke around. Also helpful to know when to get ready to close the windows to try and keep smoke out..Version: 1.4.4

Pretty okIt needs more support for canada as there arent as much data in canada provinces and or territories.Version: 1.2.0

Works greatLiving on the west coast with the insane amount of large wildfires, checking the air quality has become a necessity. This app makes it so much easier. It works great and and is easy to use. There are only 2 things I would add to make it even better. Add the ability to see the “woodsmoke” layer that Purple Air now offers, and add the ability to save multiple locations that I can easily toggle between. Multiple locations is super helpful when traveling, plus I like to be able to monitor the air quality for my mother in law who is elderly and lives in another state..Version: 1.4.4

HelpfulDoes what is necessary, but would be nice to have some trend information as well. I have been getting “purple air rate limited” which suggests that the dev needs to work out a solution with purple air. Or explain whether the limit is on the app or on my account. If it is refreshing too frequently then the refresh rate should be set accordingly to avoid the limit..Version: 1.2.1

Favorites! The app was always useful, but the addition of favorites made it perfect for me. I frequently travel 30 miles east of west for mtb rides, and as it’s prescribed burn season, the amount of smoke in the air varies wildly between locations. Now I know exactly what to expect at my chosen trailhead..Version: 4.8.3

Best Purple Air Monitor AppI have found that while Purple Air does not have an official app, Paku is as close to what I'd expect of an app if Purple Air did make one. The integration of Apple Maps with Purple Air data, combine with the ability to click on a radial AQI and launch the Purple Air website within the Paku app, and real time widgets on the iPhone, make this a near perfect experience. I only wish that there would be more development into an Apple Watch complication, as well as data integration such as PM 1, 2.5, 10, temp and humidity all at a glance from the widget view..Version: 1.4.4

Everything I want for air quality monitoringSeriously impressed by this app. It’s the perfect companion to my PurpleAir outdoor sensor. With the addition today of subscription push alerts when air quality exceeds a defined level at a sensor, I’m struggling to think of any other features that I’m really missing. The quality of the app easily justifies the small subscription cost. I love the widgets on my Lock Screen too. The only missing feature that springs to mind is a list view of sensors rather than the map view. The map view is great for panning around my area but I have family and friends spread around the country and it would be nice to see air quality/temp/humidity for a list of locations at a glance..Version: 3.2.0

Good but limits out at 500.It’s a great app but with the smoke intensity in the west what is has been lately, the AQI can go over 1000. The app limits out and won’t show AQI above 500. It’s probably just a number the programmer never though would be exceeded. At Heavenly, a resort in Lake Tahoe, they had a number of 1105 a week and a half ago!.Version: 1.2.1

The bestI have relied on purple air for several years. It just keeps getting better. It helps me decide whether I can work out outdoors or not, whether I need a mask or not, it is just the best. The most comprehensive and I love that it is community sourced and-based..Version: 1.4.4

Accurate and EasyMy friend recommended this app, and I am so glad he did! It takes readings from many different spots to give a far more accurate report on air quality in neighborhoods rather that the whole city!.Version: 1.4.4

Air quality evidenceA great app and mission to raise air quality awareness. My app only shows Fahrenheit 😕.Version: 1.4.4

HappyI use the widget function of the app, the air condition is always shown as a widget..Version: 1.2.1

Finally an app to view PurpleAir data!I love how Paku lets me avoid the clunky PurpleAir website. The app is wonderfully simple and looks good. However, the app is a little too simple. For example, the app never refreshes data. If I leave the app open and want to see the current air quality, I have to quit and relaunch the app. Ideally the app would refresh data automatically every 5-10 minutes. However, a manual refresh option is an absolute requirement for an app like this. Having to quit and relaunch the app just to refresh the data available is super obtuse and cumbersome. Another issue is that PurpleAir sensors grab lots more data than only the AQI. I find PurpleAir sensors even more useful for their temperature readings than their AQI readings. The sensor saturation is so high in the San Francisco Bay Area that they make it really easy to see what all the microclimates are like around the bay. I can then use this to plan my outdoor activities. It would be fantastic if Paku allowed us to view temperature data from PurpleAir sensors. All said, it's fantastic that Paku exists at all. I'd gladly pay $10 for this app as it exists today. Add auto-refresh and temperature data and I'd more than willingly pay $20. This app has huge value potential for my daily life. I hope to see it reach that potential one day..Version: 1.4.4

WonderfulLove the simplicity of the app - just does what it needs to. would be 6 stars if it had the option to either display the current AQI for nearest station as either a badge on the app icon or in menubar. thank you!.Version: 1.4.4

Much more accurateThe weather app on my iPhone said the air quality one particular morning was 62. It was so smoky, I couldn’t even see clearly across the field. The smell of smoke was strong. The rising sun, red. I then checked Paku, which said the AQI was 162! Huge difference!.Version: 2.1.5

Not so greatI use to be able to click and immediately see our air quality now it starts load and takes 10 or minutes to register no bueno I need to know the air quality cause I have to shut down my home abd turn air purifiers on because of fire smoke!.Version: 2.1.5

Nice job! And requestsGreat, clear interface. I only miss an option to indicate on the widget which levels (EPA, AQandU or "None") I'm looking at and whether it's real time or ten minute average or hour average, etc. I'd also like option to show an average of levels of several nearby sensors on the widget, rather than just one sensor, because sometimes they aren't very close readings.Version: 1.4.4

Much more accurateI really like this app as it is able to show more precise results in any given area. It would be nice, though, if there was a link to buy one of the sensors that are compatible with this app. It’s not a huge update, but it would be a nice option to have as a consumer. I’d like to get a sensor that can feed results into the app since I live in an area that is affected by the fires in California every year..Version: 1.4.4

Good start, hoping for moreAreas I’d like to see improvement: - Ability to choose a sensor and stay with that sensor. I own a PA sensor and only want to see data from that sensor. I don’t want to see data from other sensors as I move locations. - Get rid of the AQandU filter. I don’t like that filter nor trust the data it produces. If this app is going to force the use of a filter, it should be the EPA filter, not the AQandU filter. - Provide time-based averages. Seeing the current AQI is only a small part of the picture. Gaining an understanding of how the AQI value is trending is immensely valuable and often times more valuable than the current reading..Version: 1.0.5

Perfect Purple Air appThis is literally the perfect purple air app. It’s incredibly simple, no-frills, it has exactly what you need to know right in front of you. Plus it has a fantastic iOS widget. I’m so thankful the developer finally made a great app to replace all the other garbage..Version: 1.4.4

Thank goodness for this app!I have the Paku widget and check every day to know if I need to pop on an N95 to avoid asthma issues. I used to have to click around on Purple Air so this has added up to many minutes saved per week (and probably a few asthma attacks). Thanks so much for making this!!.Version: 1.4.1

Well done app!I was looking for some thing that would interact with our sensors in and outside the house. A couple of the features of this app stand out: family sharing, widgets, custom alerts, multi-device native viewing. It’s thoughtfully developed..Version: 5.3.4

Great app for quick and easy access to Purple Air dataThis is just exactly what is needed for getting quick and easy access to your favorite and/or closest Purple Air sensor via Home Screen widget, with quick access from there to the purple air map. Love being able to do a quick swipe right to see what the air quality is right now where I’m at and from there get additional info if needed..Version: 1.4.4

Very good, glitch in v2 fixedUpdate: Since my original review, the developer responded quickly, asking about issues I was having. Several updates have been put out since then, and somewhere along the way my freezing issue was fixed. Thanks! Original: This is a very good and helpful app. I wish it could display graphs like the PurpleAir website. The glitch is that v2 doesn’t work on iOS 15. Yes, the description says iOS 16 is required, but the app is still flagged for 15, so it got installed. Fortunately I was able to recover the compatible version via iMazing. Please flag the app appropriately..Version: 2.2.1

Please add AQI notifications to this great app!Great app, much better to use than the PurpleAir website. Since PurpleAir updated, I noticed some discrepancies in the AQI standards for Paku, which tends to read low. My other suggestion: please add notifications when AQI materially deteriorates or improves! That way, we don't have to manually check the widget or app every so often to avoid unpleasant surprises..Version: 1.4.4

Great app with a few annoyances.First of all, this app is incredible. It’s map and widgets are great and show the data great. Your most recent update added a lot of features I was wanted. I only have a few problems. First, when zooming in on the San Jose area, the map lags. If I am not careful, my iPad Pro 2020 will lag out to the point of a force restart- the equivalent of holding down the power button on a laptop. I have a few suggestions- a search bar and the ability to favorite locations and have them stand out. Temperature at the sensor would also be cool in the widget and app. Other than that, incredible app..Version: 1.4.1

Great for bad air daysReally like he app, it’s accurate to within several minutes of when I smell smoke. Been depending on it and the Purple Air website to know when I can open the windows - this app lets me not have to open Safari..Version: 1.4.4

Really Nice, but Missing That Last BitPaku is filled with a lot of great simplicity, making it easy to use and pretty to look at. However, I’ve noticed that the settings I use for viewing values resets each time I close the app. I think the experience would be better if these didn’t need to be keyed in each time. It would also be nice if the widget didn’t just report the nearest station value, but instead averaged the nearest 3, for example, considering that sensors can often be individually unreliable. This averaging feature would be also nice when zooming out, so that values would be legible at “higher altitudes”..Version: 1.4.4

Fantastic simple appDoes exactly what I need it to. I keep the small widget on my iPhone for general awareness and I check the app frequently on my iPhone and MacBook air during fire season. Thanks for making this app so reliable and easy to use!.Version: 1.4.4

Great App for local air qualityLove that the app uses purple air to show my local quality. Sooooo close to 5 stars! The interface is simple and gives a good way to see purple air numbers. Awesome that I can change the correction algorithms though would be even better if I could change to the new EPA correction. The AQandU one is pretty useless to be honest when I compare it to a close by AirNow sensor. Last, but not least a small annoyance for those that have a purple air sensor. The blue dot indicating my GPS location is rendered directly on top of my sensor reading. Would be awesome if that could be rendered behind it..Version: 1.2.1
