✓ Great reads! Just needs a few changesFirst of all, the stories are amazing and I love reading them! The only problem is, I would like them to have some all-free stories. I don’t understand why all stories start with a few chapters free, and when you really start to like the story, it just turns into something you have to either buy or wait for. 24-hours wait, and you only get one free pass, and the free pass only lets you read one chapter which only has like 5 pictures and a few words! I don’t want to spend money on a subscription because of the reviews and just because I have better things to spend it on. Please, give us at least more free passes or a smaller wait time, or just give some all-free stories! I don’t really recommend this app, just go buy books from the store, you’ll get a much smaller wait and you will have your money well spent..Version: 23.3.260

✓ Very frustratedI saw an advert for one of the stories on here and was immediately interested (but a little wary) but I decided to go to the website. I started reading said book and really enjoyed it!! (The books are definitely not the problem here!). I finished chapter four and was going on to the next chapter when it told me I would have to download the app. Again I was hesitant, but decided to do it anyway because I was hooked onto the book. I downloaded it and waited excitedly to carry on my story and… it said I had to pay money. That’s kinda put me off everything now, I have been looking for books that say FREE but I am struggling. As I said earlier the books aren’t bad (I have only looked at three so far so I wouldn’t listen to my judgement on that) it’s the way the app presented itself I guess. ✓ App is buggy asThe stories are great it’s just too bad that the moment I get into a groove of reading them the app bugs out and can’t load any of the content. ✓ Why would you nerf your app?Don’t get me wrong, I love your app! It’s hard to find a flat fee platform with quality translations. Sure, you could use more girls love, but tbf I say that about everything. But your tablet version just changed the best things about it: the ability to run the app in any orientation (mine is upside down because I locked it that way when I first got my first tablet, and I don’t like change), and the fact that the comics were thinner than my tablet screen — these works were designed for cell phones, so wider tablet screens a) slow and interrupt the storytelling, and b) require more scrolling, which makes me a bit nauseated. These two things were why I quit Webtoon for you guys! My cell phone is stuffed to the gills and has a tiny screen (cuz why pay for a nice screen when you have a tablet?), so I can’t just migrate, but I’m not going to make myself sick for want of a good UI either. ✓ Heavily Censored: what’s the reason!?I don’t understand what this app keep licensing mature and adult stories and then heavily censoring them to the point where they sometimes don’t make any sense. Why are you trying to make adult themes and stories accessible to younger audiences. They are not the target audience either make a section of the website for adults like Tappytoon and Lezhin. Or just don’t translate those stories because you’re not doing the other any favors because then people will go and find the version that they want and translate it and uploaded illegally on website because that’s how I’m gonna to read totems realm and any other story that’s been heavily chopped up and censored by this app. I actually have no problem paying for stories I pay for Tappytoon, Lezhin and WEBTOON regularly. But I am an adult and the stories that I tend to re-have adult things and contacts and have a nice sensor really takes away from the story. You can go online to certain websites and constantly see comments or complaints about this app and how they are censoring these really good stories. ✓ No updatesSo I saw an ad for Manta about two years ago and got hooked on one of the more popular stories. Slowly what I’ve come to realize is that they continuously add new stories to read, complete a season and then you’re waiting for months for an update. I have a story in my library that hasn’t been updated in over 4 months. I have another story that has the complete novel available to read yet, the comic with images hasn’t been updated in months. So you can read ahead without visuals but if that’s the case, you’re better off just buying a book. I’m not knocking the artists and rushing their work at all it just seems unfair to pay for something and know that you may not get anything new on current stories. Beyond that I’ve had multiple stories end early due to unforeseen circumstances, which is totally fine. Or a story just ending what seems to be abruptly all together. You have to keep paying a subscription to hope maybe a story with a finished season, not completed, comes back or is updated but doesn’t seem to be a guarantee and then wants you to turn on notifications for it. Like I said I’ve been waiting 4+ months for a lot of stories yet all I get are new ones being added on. So I wonder if this is just a repetitive cycle. ✓ Toxic portrayal and treatment of female mcsAlmost every comic sends a negative message and gives a feel bad vibe. So many examples where women are treated like meat etc and then the comic romanticizes the toxic relationships. Also, whenever something good is about to happen the women are made to feel guilty for wanting a good thing and are punished for anything bad that happens in a series. I would like to give the benefit of the doubt and say the series develop into something better, but i have stuck around in way too many titles and found the same conclusion: the storyline is toxic and leaves me upset. It’s not just one or two series either. It’s like one of the signature patterns in almost every series they have that is popular. Some of the only positive comments i can say is that the art is something to appreciate and if the series are up your alley (i personally don’t see the appeal though…) then the price of $4 a month unlimited content is an absolute deal you will not find elsewhere..Version: 2.1.174

✓ Doesn't suit iPadThe app is overall really good. Has a great selection of comics and I like that it’s subscription based as it allows you to read unlimitedly whereas other apps rip you off by making you pay per episode. However the only issue is that it doesn’t really suit the iPad. The app has a small screen when you open it on the iPad and although it has the option to expand the screen, it looks pixelated and uncomfortable to use. ✓ Horrible App & Customer ServiceThe customer service is horrible. I paid for a subscription and the next day it was asking me if I wanted to sign up for their subscription as if I hadn’t already the day before. I reached out to them for a refund with several screenshots proving that the day I purchased the subscription and what it displayed on my account page in the app after my purchase. It wasn’t until I actually cancelled my subscription that it would reflect that I had subscribed on the account page by telling me when the subscription would end. They kept insisting that I was trying to access my subscription through a different account when that wasn’t the case I sent them multiple screenshots proving that it was the same account which proved that it was an app issue. They are still insisting that it’s an account issue when that’s not the case. At the top of all the screenshots were the same email address. Don’t waste your money the customer service is horrible. I love that this app has an unlimited reading subscription, I’ve always wanted an app to have this. The APP is not completely free, and there is not a daily reward, login, or app function to unlock a free episode. They give you a certain amount of pages to read for example 5 free pages out of 45. After a certain point to continue reading you have to buy the subscription. I also dislike that every time you login, you’re prompted either an ad for a new story, even if it’s one you already read, even if you have requested to close the ads. To be honest, there are a lot of other apps out there that are completely free with weekly read options, watch ads for points, daily login rewards the list goes on that makes this app feel not worth your while. ✓ Subscription Structure Creates ProblemsThe good things about the app: the stories are decent (it’s not Shakespeare, but that’s what you expect from romance; the translation is fine, if a bit simplistic; and the art is good), the app is well-structured, and it would probably be fun if it wasn’t such a frustrating experience to try and access its content. I have no problem paying for a high quality app, especially one like this which features the work of artists. But it would be a lot more appealing to pay an upfront fee, or at least have some stories that are completed and free, instead of only allowing five chapters and then one extra chapter every 24 hours (chapters take like, two minutes to read). My biggest issue, though, is the subscription structure itself. This app is built as a subscription linked to your Apple ID, as opposed to as an app platform for a web-based subscription (ex. Audible). A web-based subscription allows way more flexibility, because you can choose your payment method. These Apple subscriptions subject you to the absolute hell that is Family Sharing payment logistics. While this won’t apply to everyone, a lot of people are on Family Sharing these days for services like Apple Music, and only one payment method can be attached to a Family Sharing account - and that therefore gets attached to your Apple ID. For whatever reason this app will not let me purchase the subscription, because it keeps going through Family Sharing even though I have purchase sharing and subscription services off (I’m an adult and feel no need to charge my family organizer’s credit card monthly for a romance comic). I’m sure part of the problem is on Apple’s end, but this is just one example of how the subscription structure ruins the product experience. Anyways, I’ve spent nearly two hours trying to figure out a solution to this (not because the app is worth that - frankly it isn’t - but because I’m *that* annoyed), and all of it could have been avoided had this app simply been structured as a web-based subscription like, say, Audible. And you’d have the added bonus of being able to access your account on other devices, which to my mind seems like a plus for an app claiming to feed the binge urge. Wouldn’t you want access to be as, well, accessible, as possible? Two stars for the visual pleasure and organization of the app - three stars off for everything else..Version: 2.1.185

The image quality and translations are very well done, though I guess Manta is a licensed streamer rather than responsible for production and distribution. The biggest frustration I have with Manta is they heavily censor their content. Sometimes nearly whole chapters are gone and it messes up the clarity and flow of the stories it literally drives me to unpaid sites to find what I missed! I want to support artists so it is disappointing Manta’s strict adherence for SFW in all comics will make it so I will not resubscribe. Recommendation: Add an age verified mature section, or create a second app Manta+ that has mature content that requires age verification for download. When I got into the app I started reading “totems realm” and after like 2 chapters, I noticed a daily pass on the 3rd. I found out the daily pass is a pass that only lets you read A chapter a day. I immediately thought this was ridiculous because what’s the point if your only gonna read a chapter per book a day. And what’s more, you have to pay monthly to get the full experience 😒🤦🏽♀️. My card isn’t connected to this device so I can’t even pay for the subscription. Even the complete books give you 2 chapters free and then you need the subscription My suggestion? You should at least give people the chance to read more free chapters a day (5-10 maybe) then give the daily pass and then ask for people to buy the subscription. If they buy it, then they buy it and if they don’t, then they have to wait another day. ✓ You Will Own NothingThe app works fine for what it is, but what it is in not a model I can support. Subscription models are not something I use when when that subscription model does not include an option to buy. If their subscription model said, you get so many chapters you own at the end of the month, I would consider it depending on how many chapters verses the cost. The ability to read unlimited chapters while subscribed has no value to me and thus would not be factored in. I’m sure this model works for many people, but I am not one of those people. I already am not happy about the fact that I must read them on an app (i.e. digitally), so making me pay to rent a product that is not in the format I want is not making it better. I’m sure there are many great titles on here. If that is true, I hope that physical publishers of manga, manhwa, and manhua (as well as their connected novels) will pick them up. For many people this review will be seen as a reason to pick up this app and if that’s you, great. I do not begrudge you your reading preferences. It just is not for me. Again, my problem is not with there being a subscription model. My problem is with there not being a model that allows for purchase..Version: 23.2.259
✓ Almost perfect ✨I love this app even thought i just got it a few days ago but the one downside is that when you use a daily pass you have to watch an ad which is really annoying even Webtoon doesn't do that.Version: 23.8.295
