Rock Identifier: Stone ID for Negative User Reviews

This is mostly wrongThis app is good in some ways. I tried on a few of my crystals and most of them were wrong. Only sometimes it would be right. It’s crazy how it says a pink rock is a amethyst!! You need more accurate identifications. You also need to put more types of crystals in there. I have a blue agate and if I search it up it says no results. There’s probably more then 50 rocks/crystals that are not there. Also, you need to make a search to ask question Sincerely, Dandelione.Version: 2.1.1

LagsApp won’t save or load have to close it and re open it to be able to save one thing at a time very frustrating..Version: 2.3.16

Nice app but still work to doIt works fine if you are scanning your crystals and you already know the names. But be aware if you don’t. It would go by the color only. I scanned my true turquoise crystal bracelet and a plastic light blue beads bracelet I own. The app was still stating they were turquoise. this app It will work to remind me the names of the crystals I own, but no to identify the ones I don’t ..Version: 2.3.16

It’s a fraud appIt doesn’t give accurate information took the picture of the same stone gave me different results. It should be banned for stealing the money. Forced charges..Version: 2.5.33

DO NOT DOWNLOADI deleted this app about two years ago and just found out it’s Ben charging me 30 some dollars yearly for a subscription that I DID NOT sign up for and I’m still trying to figure out how to cancel it. Worst experience ever DO NOT GET THIS APP‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️.Version: 2.5.8

Not free$40 a week for free after they take your payment setup. Nice scam It’s common on apps “Free” for a week as long as you unsubscribe in time..Version: 2.6.3

Scam companyDon’t purchase anything from this developer they will suck you in with a free trial and then you will be on auto renewal for ever with no way to turn it off. There is no way to contact them and “report a problem” does not show their app in the list that appears. Apple says they are trying to stop scammers yet makes it impossible to report the scam unless you pay for a support call which makes it a double scam..Version: 2.5.11

Rock identifierI Cancelling my subscription because it does not t help me at all and I’m not interested I don’t want to pay anything.Version: 2.6.3

Is not accurateI bought this app to identify rocks I found on the beach, I am also in a group on Facebook of experts in this field I took a photo of a stone and it said Yellow Jasper and then the same stone with more light was a quartz. I put this in my group and these were responses; ‘The apps sometimes provide a good starting point. Unfortunately they are often left-field wrong, too. But not in this case. If you look at the composition the app identifies both as SiO2. Silicon dioxide. Literally the only diff that the app can see IS the color, based on the lighting. Such is the limitation of the app’. ‘ Jasper is quartz ( silicon dioxide) .you can see that the formula is the same on both pictures. Jasper and agate and more are forms of chalcedony,, micro/crypto crystalline quartz, as opposed to regular quartz. The difference is in chalcedony types the crystals are too small to see without extra magnification. Regular quartz means you can see the crystal structure with your eyes.’.Version: 2.4.7

Lost me at “Healing crystals”Was really liking this app and the scientific explanations and descriptions of how rocks form, how to identify, etc. Seemed really cool. Then I stumbled on descriptions of healing crystals/rocks. Wut? For example, obsidian = “Obsidian is considered a protection stone, that shields against negativity with truth-enhancing properties. It is said to bring clarity to the mind, drawing out mental stress and tension that sometimes leads to confusion. You can carry it with you to help ward off negative forces or keep the stone in your home, office, or anyplace you need protective energy.” Are you kidding? I refuse to support this pseudoscientific nonsense and nobody else should either. Unless a rock/mineral has shown scientific evidence for health properties (like those minerals in many coenzymes and vitamins), we shouldn’t be spreading “healing crystal” nonsense. Very disappointing..Version: 2.0.2

Not accurateThis cubic zirconia ring I’m wearing keeps coming up as a diamond when I know it’s most probably not.Version: 2.5.30

HopelessI’ve collected lots of beautiful small rocks over the years - my bathroom selves are full of them. I’ll pick up anything that catches my eye, and keep it as a souvenir, though I am no expert or connoisseur. Having said that, I can tell pumice from limestone, or limestone from quartz, or hematite from jasper, or jasper from slate… unlike this app. I gave up after it failed to get any of the first 5 rocks I scanned right..Version: 2.4.8

MehWorks fine for basic crystals but gets a lotttt wrong and will give you different results for different pictures of the same rock..Version: 1.9.1

Great but overpricedAs a fellow crystal collector myself I really love this app. The biggest issue I have is the overall price per year. I would use this app a lot more if it was more affordable. I’m going back to my crystal encyclopaedia book.Version: 2.6.4

New age - witchcraftI was initially excited about using this app to help identify rocks on hikes, but only after a minute of reading through the info, it talked about healing and energy properties! God never gave power to rocks. At best, it's pseudoscience. Deleted app right away. Get this junk out of your life. Hope, joy and healing can't come from a rock. It comes from the precious blood of Jesus who died and rose again to save our souls and give us abundant life. A rock can't be your savior. It's...a rock. Self-help is temporary. Love from God is forever. If you're using rocks for healing, then you already know it's not working. "I am the way, the truth, and the life." - Jesus in John 14:6 "A thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But I come to give life - life that is full and good." - Jesus again from John 10:10.Version: 2.4.10

NiceIt’s a good app. it’s mostly correct but it does sometimes get the crystal completely wrong. it’s better than most apps though.Version: 1.1

Not accurateIs not accurate. I tested real and fake and both same info.Version: 2.6.6

InaccurateI was excited to try this app after seeing the high rating, but it only accurately named 2 out on my 6 gemstone rings. I accidentally took a blurry photo of my bed and it identified it as opal..Version: 2.4.18

It didn’t workThis app was a bit of a disappointment, I have downloaded some of their other apps like Picture Plant which has been working perfectly lately But this got stuck on the loading screen displaying. “Rock Identifier” I don’t know what went wrong, I turned my phone on and off, deleted and reinstalled it, I just kept happening. After checking for updates it still didn’t work, I have had the same problem with picture mushroom, it worked fine until a couple weeks ago. Can you fix this because I know that the apps you make are really good. Just these two haven’t been working recently. 😕.Version: 2.3.8

A year “after purchase” review!!I’ve scanned 28k stones in the year I’ve used it and the accuracy remains at 85%. I know almost every mineral so this doesn’t affect my overall review personally, but it may cause trouble with inexperienced collectors. To mislabel a toxic stone as an entirely different mineral can allow people feel comfortable enough to touch with no protection or gift it not knowing it’s potentially filled with heavy metals, radioactivity, arsenic, etc. Which brings me to my next observation, minerals that are a “potential match” should have a warning regardless if the main match is non-toxic or not. Being in the same visual group is risky enough for beginners. The update doesn’t allow already logged minerals to have a label option so there’s that too. Extremely unhappy about that as a subscriber. The app tends to slow down and freeze more as your collection grows so it can be frustrating in the field waiting for my catalog to load in 100°F 🥵 Overall, I’d still recommend it over other identifiers in the App Store..Version: 2.4.8

App didn’t workI downloaded it and took a few pictures of my crystals and then when I went back into the app the camera wouldn’t work and the game was frozen. I reset the app a few times and deleted it then downloaded it again, and turned my phone on and off and it didn’t work. When eventually I managed to get it working the search results weren’t accurate..Version: 2.1.1

Not free anymore?Update: Ok, so you need to subscribe to grow your collection, or you’re stuck with what you already have. Too bad! I’m so disappointed! Original: This is the best app of its kind. Most of the time I get the right result, a couple of times I even got tricked on buying a stone and this app told me it wasn’t what I thought I got. Also, the app is allowing me to modify the name of the rock that I scanned (in case it gave me the wrong answer), which is great because they like to improve the app with our help; other apps of this kind require subscription to be able to do that. Good job here! I have a large rock collection and I organized it by color within this app. It took me long enough to realize there’s a easy way to number them so they appear in the right order in my collection. A problem that baffles me is, when I acquire a new rock and want to place it in the right place in my collection, I give it a number that belongs to that place I want it to be, but that number is already taken by another rock and the app doesn’t notify me of having two rocks with the same number, which is very confusing when you have many rocks. But I’ve gotten used to it and I can fix it quickly. Great app!.Version: 2.5.37

Pathetic appYou took a subscription without an alert. When I signed up for the free trial it said you would alert me before the trial finished. You didn’t. Please refund me. Your app doesn’t even work properly. It can’t identify properly even half the stones I’ve tried it on and there is no way to get anything other than a completely blurred photo.Version: 2.5.4

Over priced guessing gameThis game literally just guesses what crystal it is. I scanned a crystal and then when I scanned it again it showed me something complete different. Plus I know that not every single one of my whiteish clear crystals are Opal! There is no logic because they just guess the crystal based on the colour! It’s also overpriced because for an inaccurate app it sure charges a lot! It should be free! So, if your looking for a crystal app that’s very accurate don’t go here. Anyway, it still has some good qualities and sometimes it’s correct so I think it’s a 3 out of 5 stars..Version: 2.5.39

Eh…This app is great if you really know crystals or rocks and just are uncertain of a few. It gives you a few options and one of them is right about 60% of the time. If you don’t know much about rocks this app won’t help you much as sometimes it will give you options that straight up don’t make any sense. If you know rocks you’ll know it’s wrong. Personally it’s always gotten the obvious ones right. when I was testing it out it got crystals like rose quartz and amethyst correct, but couldn’t identify BISMUTH which is extremely unique or selenite which also is very specific. I would take your pics on a white background or a pice of paper for best results..Version: 1.8

Rip off avoid this app like the plagueYou get asked to agree to terms which as usual are endless and passing this get automatically set up to join a years subscription against your will. I tried to avoid this but any movement causes it to activate. Scam artists like this should be checked more thoroughly. Now I have to find a way to delete it!.Version: 2.4.10

Won’t let you delete accountNot happy trying to delete app b4 Free trial ends snd instructions are dodgy and won’t let you delete. Scam … not happy. Someone at this place explain how to delete I’ve contacted apple support. If you take money out of my account I’ll take it further.Version: 2.5.39

Obnoxiously incorrectI gave it one star because it was not correct even 20% of the time. I used multiple light sources and it displayed multiple incorrect identities for the same stone. It called anything that is clear and faceted a diamond. It calls most things howlite or agate. But when I showed it a bright orange dyed agate, it called it amber. Anything dark green it calls malachite (some are, some aren’t). Anything black, it called obsidian. This was so wildly incorrect that it’s not even a good tool to provide a starting point to identify on your own. I used it on dozens of stones and so, so many wrong. It got ammonite correct. If one didn’t have the background knowledge to know how bad this is, how would one know they’re being suckered? Cancelled after a couple of hours. Certainly not worth $30/year..Version: 2.5.28

Total crapIt identifies the same stone as three different things. Don’t waste your money.Version: 2.6.2

Not realI took photos is real and fake pearls. And the reading was the same for both . Worked well on diamonds.Version: 2.4.12

Wrong IdentificationWrongly identified decorative stones in my bracelet as diamonds and also identified a design in bangle as diamond!! LOL would not recommend..Version: 2.5.17

Bad app .It doesn’t identify the stones and rocks properly.Version: 2.6.6

Not accurateTook multiple pictures of jewelry I bought from a reputable jewelry store and each time it said a different gem. It’s almost like it’s just guessing because researching some of the gems and they don’t even look close to the ones it says it is. Not worth the money. Maybe 30% accurate but again not sure if it’s just guessing..Version: 2.7.0

40$ for it to tell me wrong informationWould not recommend.Version: 2.5.17

Canceling the appYou have to email the company to cancel no in app option to do so. I cancelled it through the Apple app purchases section. Hopefully that worked..Version: 2.5.35

Great app. Just let me buy it without a subscription please.I really like the app. But honestly. This subscription thing is going to cost you a ton of sales. I’d have been willing to pay 10 or 15 dollars for a high quality app. You are asking for almost as much as an office subscription for this app. Please stop. No one wants 15 app subscription charges per month on their statement and unfortunately I won’t be buying this until I can actually buy it instead of renting it. Keep up the good work on the identification side though the core of the app is fantastic. But I can’t rate this higher without the disclaimer that subscription based apps are what’s wrong with the App Store today..Version: 2.3.16

Identified Gum as agate!!This app is okay for being able to “confirm” what the crystals are you have. But it seeks to only identify an object as a crystal - I wanted to see if I could trust the app, and scanned gum (told me it was dyed agate), then I tried a velvet box and it told me it was jasper! Would be great if the app would say something even “inconclusive” rather than an obvious wrong answer. I had such high hopes for it, but have deleted it now.Version: 2.5.13

Piece of crapHonestly. this did not work for me at all. Maybe it works on rocks, but forget about using it for polished stones. I tried it on a piece of coloured glass and got three different results depending on proximity and angle - and none of the results were glass. Similar differing results were read for other stones, so no confidence in this app at all. Total waste of money.Version: 2.6.2

Incorrect identificationsI took a photo of 2 rocks that I wasn’t quite sure of. And i took pictures from different angles and each pic came out with different outcomes so then i took a photo of the most common crystals (rose quarts & amethyst) which the app couldn’t even identify correctly..Version: 1.0

Did not supply credit card info but charged anywayIt feels like deceptive practices as I was not clearly informed that I was going to be charged for a one-year subscription that I do not want or need If there was a way to easily contact the developer I would do so rather than leave a largely negative review online. The app was installed with apparently a default to a one-year premium description and does not work for my needs whatsoever. When I attempted to identify emerald, I was informed it was a kind of tourmaline, when I attempted to identify a cubic zirconia, I was told it was a diamond. I immediately went to cancel my subscription to find out I was charged yesterday. I will be happy to remove or update my review, providing my membership is cancelled immediately and the amount of money I paid refunded..Version: 2.6.6

Good. This app is pretty good and the camera is great but when I first got the app I tested it with a gem I knew and it kept getting it wrong and I kept pressing not correct and it came up with the same answer so please fix this bug thank you. Yours sincerely, Person.Version: 2.4.13

Didn’t work greatDidn’t use the app after a couple of tries.. Forgot to delete it... and they tried over and over again to try to charge me... Be careful just trying it...Version: 1.8.1

Took my moneyTried to cancel my subscription before i was charged- and was still charged for a year subscription. i want my money back and they will not give it back..Version: 1.9.1

They ruined it. :(For an app like this, I can’t believe it’s Pretty much free. After a couple of pictures it asks if you want premium but it’s never a choice! ( it also ask whenever you open the app but who really cares about that, right?) anyways, this app is amazing, especially since I love rocks and crystals ☺️🗿🔮but then they f’ed it up. Now without premium, you can only identify 2 ROCKS A DAY, LIKE TF??? Before, EASY 5 STARS. But now? 3 stars. Disappointed:(.Version: 2.6.6

AppallingAs a qualified gemmologist I find this app frankly immoral. I gave it a go to see how accurate it could be (knowing full well that it would fail) and while sometimes it would be correct (for obvious crystals like agate or stones with unique phenomena like moonstone), it was also incorrect most of the time. NEVER make buying decisions based on this app. The app clearly identified a CZ as a diamond - the difference in value between the two is astronomical and I shudder to think that someone may lose an exorbitant amount of money based on incorrect information. The information on history, hardness etc. may technically be correct once the stone is correctly identified but that’s not what the app is saying it’s for! It says it will correctly identify stones for you! The amount of treatments, synthetics and simulants out there, designed to trick the unsuspecting customer, is amazing and this app will pick up NONE of these. Gemmologists use a whole host of specialist equipment to correctly identify gems and require rigorous training to do so. Please don’t waste your money on an app that is never going to be fit for purpose..Version: 2.5.11

SubscriptionThe app itself is very good. Sometimes is doesn’t guess right but 99% it’s correct. But the MOST annoying is subscribing suggestion that shows up every single minute. And it is NOT fair to have only 3 try per day and then get the subscription if you want unlimited. This app should be free of subscriptions and make money from the ads - it’s would be easier to tolerate..Version: 2.7.0

50% accuracySo far the identifier has proved only 50% accurate.Version: 1.8.2

More development neededVery few correct IDs made: 1 x granite, 1 x tuff. Incorrect: scoria = mudstone, granite = andesite, chloritic schist = serpentinite, jasper-agate = stromatolite, pumice = limestone. One stone was identified both as andesite then mudstone in two sequential pix - it was neither. Could not correctly identify lapis, gabbro, astrophylite, septarian It did give me possible clues to try and identify some rocks that i have not as yet tried to ....Version: 1.0

InaccurateDifferent ID to what the rocks are when you show the same photo twice.Version: 1.3

Hit and missIt can be a little hit and miss with results. One photo can have different results depending on camera angle and lighting..Version: 2.5.33

Bad customer serviceIts alright of an app not the best to rely on it gets most of my rocks right but sometimes i have to correct it and sometimes it dont have the rocks i own. i had scanned two rocks which should have went to my collection and history but i logged into my account and they disappeared and i had to wait another two days to scan the exact same rocks! tried to get this resolved with customer service but they were not helpful at all..Version: 2.6.6

If it’s a trial - it’s a trialAnd you shouldn’t have to take everyone’s credit card information or upload the app onto your phone using your data you’ll need to find out the tricky little garbage trick of 07 day free trial and you’ll be charged $40 if you don’t cancel ha ha he probably won’t remember so we’re going to take your $40 and then it’ll be too much of a hassle to get it back if you don’t want to have the trial. If you actually had a product that you were secure about and didn’t feel that you needed to manipulate people, you would actually give a free trial and then let people join at their wheel instead of manipulating them, and stealing their money because they forgot to cancel on the sixth day instead of the seventh day of the seven day. Yeah I know it’s a super long review. Thanks for wasting my time app. You’re welcome..Version: 2.5.24

Doesn’t workIt doesn’t recognise gems as well as o thought. It showed up my ruby as a carnelian which is a totally different stone.Version: 2.5.1

ConfusedThis app is easy to identify common rocks/crystals. but I was identifying my milky quartz and it came up with a complete different name, so I tried the other side of my milky quartz, and it came up with milky quartz, so I don’t know if it was a mistake or what. i identified my moonstone and it said amethyst, I got my crystals from a popular website and don't think they could make the mistake. overall pretty good for common crystals and rocks..Version: 2.4.4

ChrysocollaCollected on surface East of Highway 95 south of Needles, Ca. Take the trail heading along the PG&E gas transmission line. The oxidized zone, red in colour, is located ~1 kilometre East of the PG&E compressor station, and ~200 m south of the pipeline trail. Evidence of surface test pits, shallow shafts and one partially collapsed adit. Mineral was associated with a linear zone of oxidation extending NNE over ~ 500 m..Version: 2.6.3

Very Bad Customer Support!I have had this app for close to two years now. I have a premium paid service. I enjoy using the app however I have contacted the support team on two occasions, the first time they responded to my enquiry they were not even able to grasp what I was asking them, I in very basic terms explained the issue I was experiencing and they sent me a reply that may as well of been a bot’s response, they did not resolve the issue despite which I still payed for the premium service for the second year. I currently have an issue where the wish list keeps on disappearing, I have had to make the entries more than three times, the same issue persists. I always update the app to the latest version, the issue still persists. I got in touch with customer support again, they asked me to submit a picture or video detailing the issue which I did, still no response. I also feel that they do have enough crystal descriptions on the app. I would suggest that if you wish to use this app expect zero customer service when contacting their support team. I am not happy with this at all and might not renew my subscription when it is due for renewal based on their lack of customer care!!!.Version: 2.3.16

No good as it isEven with premium, it fails to identify rocks 90% of the time, and I was being very patient. It seems to go purely by colour for minerals, and with proper rocks it has no clue. Terrible for trying to identify rocks in the natural environment, which I what I wanted. The app could’ve been so good, but as it is, it’s useless..Version: 2.4.5

I’m a little disappointedI had really high hopes for this App. It classifies quite a number of stones correctly, but some of my crystals it has given three different names for which is quite disconcerting! I am an avid crystal/gemstone collector and know the names of quite a lot of my crystals so tested it on these first! The problem comes on the stones I’m not sure about and then it sometimes gives me three different options! I don’t want options, I want names! Sadly I can’t continue using it and I still don’t know the correct names for some of my stones! 🙈.Version: 2.3.16

Trying to cancel free trialBut there’s absolutely no way of doing it! Please contact me ASAP SO THAT I CAN CANCEL. You are not authorized to charge me..Version: 2.7.0

Please don’t relay on this app! This app correctly identifies basic rocks (for an example amethyst, rose quartz, tigers eye) but will mix up more complicated rocks. I wanted to test a few of these apps to see if they work and they kinda don’t. I do know quite a bit about rocks so take it from me- if you want to know what type of rock you have do some research, or even better go to a local rock shop and ask if they can figure it out. I had a rare type of agate (I got it from a thrift store for $5) that I couldn’t figure out what it was so I went to a professional to have it looked at. It was pricy but I eventually sold it for 15k..Version: 2.0.4

Seriously only 2 scans a day without the disgustingly exorbitant price of premiumDownloaded this to tell my daughter some names of rocks we found. 2 scans without buying premium. Seriously? Don’t bother getting it. On my first scan it got it wrong too. So I only really got 1 ID for the day.Version: 2.6.5

TemperamentalThe camera doesn’t work. It seems kinda accurate and easy to use but the camera has stopped working. I’ve deleted, re-downloaded, turned my wifi on and off, turned my phone on and off, allowed and disallowed app tracking, got the free trial. Still doesn’t work..Version: 2.4.10

Good idea/intentions—needs lots of work.I used the app at first trying to determine the type of stone I had as I had forgotten the name of it. I was 90% certain it was a variation of moonstone, but needed an opinion. Well, it identified the unknown stone, the white moonstone, and my peach moonstone as Carnelian Agate. 🤦🏻‍♀️ None of the stones were anywhere near as blood red–pink as Carnelian Agate is. I’m going to take photos of all of my stones that I am certain of their type and submit them to the app to further this app’s usefulness, accuracy and ability to identify other user’s stones. Until then, I’ll continue to rely on more experienced, trustworthy, educated sources. Definitely don’t trust the app’s answer blindly. You could be holding an amethyst and the app will tell you it’s Onyx..Version: 2.1.1

DisappointingDoes not work properly, at least according to the description! Installed immediately uninstalled after doing a few tests with parts I had, the stone analyses turned out to be wrong..Version: 2.6.6

Gives wrong resultsTested with some of my stones and the app for every single one wrong. It goes by bass colour and cannot differentiate stones within the same colour/pattern spectrum.Version: 1.7

I need my refundHello, whoever create this app need to fix it. I did a 7 day free trial and the app actually went and took my money from my bank account and I only said I was going to try the 7 day trial first. Like what is going on, this seems like some scam..Version: 2.5.15

Using it as an inventory onlyI was really excited to finally have an app to keep track of my collection. Have hundreds of crystals and stones and nothing is organized! The app is great for my situation - knowing the identity, just need an inventory system - but the accuracy is way, way off for use as identification. Also, please please please allow manual input of the name instead of being forced to choose one that is incorrect. I have some obscure pieces and if the app doesn’t recognize it there is no way of altering it or putting it in myself. Also, it would be awesome to allow the search feature to search everything, not just the name and where it came from. It serves its purpose (for me) but it’s really pricey for having so few features and not being accurate on most of the IDs..Version: 2.3.16

Only one week for freeNot free, only a 1 week free trial and you have to authorize payment after one week before using..Version: 2.6.2

I mean..I rated this app only 3 stars because yes it does do its job identifying rocks but.. i got curious and thought of scanning other stuff like my AirPod case, my phone ( in a mirror ), a scrubbing brush, a bar of soap and the results would be different rocks and crystals..Version: 2.0.2

I’m angryThe limit is only 2.Version: 2.6.5

App is a scam - it just guessesSo none of the ones I tried were correct. One of them came up with two completely different descriptions just by a slight change in light. If this app wasn’t a scam, it would be free while they build their library and refine it. Do not recommend.Version: 2.6.3

Three out of fiveThis is a great book identifier, but it should allow more than three uses a day I think that’s just a little ridiculous.Version: 2.6.6

Shady Payment Garbage As UsualShould be illegal to allow these types of trial to auto pay models..Version: 2.5.39
