Aura: Security & Protection for Negative User Reviews

Not GreatAs with anything there’s always something for everyone. This app is difficult for me to work with. The main reason I wanted to try this app was because I get countless calls per day from scammers, telemarketers, and robots that I unknowingly signed up for. After experiencing most of the 2-week free trial they gave me, I don’t think I will be purchasing anything in the future. Please note, they do not give you an estimated time span for how long it might take to successfully remove your information from certain companies. At least not that I know of and it’s hard to research it. My information has not been successfully removed from any of the companies they claim have it. Lastly, there are quite a few requests that have been “paused” and I cannot figure out how to get them unpaused. There is always a text bar that I can write in but no prompt for what needs to be there so no progress gets made on those specific companies. When I tried contacting Aura’s support team, the “chat” button does not work at all. I’m very grateful for the free trial experience, but I would not recommend this app if you’re going to use it to request removal. It seems to work on the other services, as they found a data leak for an account I made seven years ago and had no idea I even had an account with that website. So at least they’re good at finding leaks, but they don’t seem to be good at removing information from databases..Version: 3.7.0

Clunky, timed-out, a big waste of timeWe had high hopes for this app but after only one day, we will be canceling our free trial. Download the app and it never ever loads my account information. It just keeps on saying “loading account information”. Unfortunately you can’t access your account settings online because it just takes you right back to the app. Tried to set my daughter’s limitations but because of aforementioned issue, it wouldn’t let me change them. It does not allow for more judicious blocking either you block something entirely or not at all. Daughter’s phone would not connect to wifi while the app was on her phone, even though the restriction is for browsing in safari, not to deny her access to wifi. As a test, I asked my daughter to remove the app which would essentially give her full access to the internet. She deleted the app. No notification that the app was deleted, but still READS that her device is connected to my account. Dangerous! I tried update phones, reloading the app, updating the app, nothing. Bottom line—google, if you can actually believe this, has more safety features that allow me access than this service, which is sorta like saying that I’d feel safer with a psycho. Absolute garbage and a total waste of time- I spent HOURS trying to get this thing to work—all for nothing. Avoid..Version: 2.26.3

Lack of Customer ServiceWas thinking this app was going to make a difference, but all in all it really just compiles information and gives you updates on when a company looks at your financials or personal information. Essentially it is the same thing for when someone views you on LinkedIn and you get a notification saying someone looked at you. The majority of the services this app provides are all features that your bank already has as an available option. I tried to cancel 4 days before the monthly subscription date was coming up and was not helped. Then I tried to cancel and the representative kept trying to upsell me as I was trying to cancel. It felt disingenuous as I was explaining my frustration that the response was that I should spend more money with them. I was told that it is physically impossible to be refunded and was told that they could not help me at all. While having the app, I never used it and it was just background noise. There are tons of other alternatives that are on existing apps we have with our banks. Customer service couldn’t care less. I would not recommend this app..Version: 2.27.2

I so frustrated at this pointI got aura cause my mom recommended it and so I did but I had to cancel it the first day cause it didn’t transfer my information to the app from the website and I can do anything to change settings or anything cause it just send me to the app which when I go to the app I’ll sign in and it just keeps telling me to pay for a subscription which why if I already subscribed?? So fine I cancel the subscription I had on the site and I retry again but only on the app…guess what it doesn’t recognize I paid and keeps telling me to buy a subscription literally no matter what I do so I cancel it emailed and signed out the app and deleted the app. I thought everything was fine cause I got an email showing the cancellations on the 19th of June and yet now I’ve seen a charge for 120$ on the 30th of June! I have the emails of confirmation that it was canceled so why am I still getting charged?.Version: 2.27.5

Works, however. The app works fine and does what it says however i found it REALLY hard to unsubscribe like a weird scam website. Firstly you CAN sign up on mobile but you CAN’T unsubscribe from mobile. Second its relatively difficult to find the actual page to unsubscribe because it feels like they are trying to hide it deliberately. Lastly when you get past the 3 steps and offers it gives you to stop from unsubscribing and you finally click on that “cancel membership. “ it prompts an error and you have to call a toll free number and wait till someone picks up. From the phone you can unsubscribe but its so unnecessarily annoying and gives me bas vibes of the company. I will be unsubscribing and i will not return..Version: 2.25.1

Way too many notificationsHave you ever heard the story about the boy who cried wolf? Well, this app is a perfect example of that. Just like every other app out there, Aura act as if it’s the only app on customers phones. As a result, it wants to send nonstop notifications. Just like every other app developer, the developers of this app don’t realize that Moore notifications only values them. It makes it impossible to differentiate between what’s important or critical versus non-essential notifications. As result, I’ve turned off all notifications from this app just like I have from the other app. STOP WITH SO MANY NOTIFICATIONS! I paid for a subscription but I’m now questioning why. If I don’t wanna have notifications from this app, then why should I even have it?.Version: 3.0.2

Landscape view for iPads and other tablets is not enabled.Aura’s mission to help those who have become identity theft victims and worse in admirable. But, the app developer needs to add landscape view for those of us who use iPads and other devices that must be used with that orientation to accommodate an external keyboard. As a victim of ID Theft, I am no longer allowed by my 2 banks to use online services. I haven’t yet found a place to register my accounts in Aura. Most of the world now uses online banking, but there is a growing number of victims for whom it is no longer safe to bank online. We need to add our offline bank accounts just like everyone else. Other than my suggestions for improvement as listed above, the app is clear and easy to navigate, and there is no crowding of features. It has ease of use for computer beginners and intermediates, as well as those who use devices other than computers. If the above suggestions are implemented, I will review the app again, and give it the better rating it will then deserve..Version: 2.17.1

DisappointedI entered my credit card on a trial period. Cancelled within the alotted time thru the app. No help from anyone. Sent multiple emails. Just got a response now and it doesn’t even acknowledge what my concern was. The customer service is awful. The ratings are a farce. Fabricated i am sure. All i want is a full refund back to my form of payment which i was entitled to during the trial period. As I canceled during that time. Since the app was not easy to navigate and the service was not what i wanted or what it promised to be. The app is not friendly and difficult to navigate confusing. I am still waiting for my full refund. Of 108 dollars. Which I appreciate if someone reads this other then the incompetent people reading the emails. I am so frustrated. A scam..Version: 2.28.1

Free Trial RefundBe aware, they don’t refund you after free trial. I have tried to cancel it before the billing date, the website gave me an error, so I went ahead and send them an email as instructed asking to cancel my subscription before the free trial period end. Still got charged, called multiple times and explained the situation but they simply said That they don’t give refunds if it was purchased through apple store. It makes no sense, I was charged automatically, and wasn’t specifically going to App Store and buying it. Now, I am stuck with waiting for this transaction to clear, and need to request refund from App Store only after that. The people I spoke including the supervisor didn’t care much and were kind of dismissive, like “not our problem” attitude. I actually liked the app, but this whole interaction was really not professional. You had a error on website, you didn’t check email, and then you tell your potential customer, go deal with it on your own..Version: 2.26.1

I feel better with the protection but there is a lot of room to improveI signed up for this service and it seems to do a lot for the price. But the app can be really annoying and it seems like it should be able to “learn” over time but it doesn’t. I have to clear the same alerts every month (same paycheck every month) and it isn’t just one alert, it generates multiple alerts for the same item - very annoying. And both my husband and I have to each clear the same, multiple alerts instead of one of us being able to clear alerts for the account. The VPN also occasionally glitches with other apps so I semi-routinely have to turn it off and restart my phone. Apps just won’t load or open at random periods of time. I have a secondary vpn that I often have to switch too until whatever bug is going on seems to clear itself and then I can switch back. I like the concept, I appreciate having the monitoring in place, but the app makes things frustrating..Version: 3.6.0

The VPN and credit scores are useless.I just activated the VPN on my iPhone and it is useless. I tried to send a message with a picture on Line Messenger and it would not send. As soon as I deactivated the VPN, the message was sent immediately. The credit scores on here are also not correct. Each of my banking apps provide a different credit score. And if you go to the credit agency websites for each of the three credit agencies, the scores listed there are different from the scores listed on this application. The only thing this application is good for is to have your personal information removed from data brokers. Don’t expect anything more than that for your money..Version: 3.1.1

Disappointing - Kid monitoringI canceled within an hour of signing up. I was looking for an app to replace the Bark app I had to monitor my child’s iPhone/iPad. When I searched and saw this app I was was ready to change right away. With the Celebrity Robert Downy Jr.’s endorsement I thought it should be good. I downloaded and kept trying to find where to monitor my child’s devices. OooHHHH you now have to purchase the “Family” plan. UGH more money. So it went from $125 a year to $300 (monitors 5 adults and unlimited kids) a year. Um NO, I only have 1 kid I am not paying $300 and thats only what I saw I didn't even upgrade so I don’t know if there are more fees/charges once you upgrade. I cant get over the cost to even try the kids monitoring and time limits. I only have one child and I have to pay the same that someone can monitor 3, 5, or 10 kids. Because you have to upgrade to Monitor your kids is a disappointment. I thought this was an app to help protects our kids. Going back to Bark..Version: 3.2.1

This app is sort of beat.Have attempted to set up malware blocker about 4x. Just takes me on a link loop back to my own email. Trying this on a 2 week trial. App isn't great & is sort of hard to navigate. Seems buggy, although it gets great reviews? My phone is less than a year old & no issues elsewhere. In addition to that, I was very interested in the data broker removal feature. I've had the app for about a week now. Most of the removals are 'paused', looking for some sort of 'authentication' from me. Yet, the authentication screen is blank. No idea what info I'm supposed to be providing to unpause the removal of my info from data brokers? Meanwhile, I've managed to get responses from many of these broker sites doing manual data removal requests in the past week. It's annoying & time consuming, but at least it's done. And, let's all be honest-most of us really use apps like this for this exact feature in the 21st. This app, especially considering the price, will be a hard pass from me..Version: 3.9.0

I’ll continue with the app as long as it keeps improvingWhen I first got the app it was out of necessity. I had fallen victim of id theft and so I needed to go thru a lot of hardships to finally feel safe. Aura was a big factor in helping me find my peace again. I can’t even lie I really like this app. However I also did have issues with the vpn on my last phone and on this one. Each time I would turn it on even my Verizon service wouldn’t work but it seems that the bug has been smushed because It works now , so thank you. Ps one suggestion is with the credit reports I would like the number of whoever is running my credit to ask them why maybe a solution incase it’s not me who’s wanting a credit report or wanting to open a new account because again it’s happened to me before..Version: 2.27.2

Works Great… Until VPN Disables Phone DailyThis app provides security and does a good job at monitoring/protecting activity. The biggest complaint is it completely debilitates my phone at points… daily. It got so bad, and was so often, that I thought it was because I had an older version iPhone and figured that the phone had to be the issue. It wasn’t until I got a brand new iPhone and the problem continued, that I realized it was the VPN/app and not the phone. In short, I wasted money on getting a brand new phone because of the issue this app caused/causes. Problem is the VPN shuts down access to even be able to open the app to deactivate it (once VPN is deactivated it allows your phone to work regularly again). I don’t know if there is a way to fix this, but if it was resolved I would give 5 stars. It’s just way too much of an issue not to knock it down 2 stars. Also, a bonus would be if there was a shortcut created to be able to quickly access the app to turn off/on the VPN..Version: 2.26.1

The service is OK, the app not so muchThe service is pretty much as advertised. Telephone support staff are friendly and seem like they genuinely want to help. One issue has been addressed and fixed. The Aura app is another story. On both an iPhone and an iPad, as soon as I tap anything in the Identity tab, the screen goes black and the app is unresponsive. This is not an issue when using the website on a Mac desktop, so apparently is an iOS problem. Aura was notified of this 3 days ago. So far no reply. I still have a fair amount of time before the free trial period ends. If Aura or it’s app developer do not respond I’ll just cancel and move on. Update: Here we are quite some time later. After a couple of phone calls, no fix. I was assured that the “tech team” was working on a fix and that they would be returning my call. That never happened. The trial period expired and I had to let Aura go with no resolution to the iOS problem. So much for customer retention..Version: 2.0.1

UsefulGreat product but need some work still. Two main issues is the Red Flag Transactions and the VPN. There should be a way that once you check a transaction that is over the threshold, you should be able to remove the red flag if its a valid transaction. It would be pointless to raise the threshold amount for a charge that is only once in a while because then if there is a fraud charge that is a lower amount then it doesn’t get flagged. Its very annoying to go in and see all these red dots on transactions that you have already deemed valid, how are you supposed to note the ones that are not valid if you can’t remove the red dot on the valid ones. I had to remove the VPN from my phone as it kept affecting my Wifi and slowing down or freezing some of the apps I use. You should be able to have a VPN that will protect your phone without affecting how everything works. I reconnected the VPN but I am still having issues with some of my apps not loading.Version: 2.22.3

BEWARE!But found it conflicted with the VPN that comes with my service and I was constantly having to turn one off or on. They also offered a spam phone call service for an extra $5.25 a month and I had signed up for that as well. When I realized that neither were going to work for me I canceled in June. Still got billed July and august for $5.25 spam phone call part. No big deal. I called Aura and spoke with a lady who assured me it had now been canceled. Fast forward to September and I got charged again. Again I call and a man said he can see I’m still being charged and he would escalate the matter to see why, but it will take up to two days to get back to me with an answer! It has been two days. It’s not the money as much as the principal. I’ve been charged three times since originally canceling and I’m still waiting for a call back. UPDATE: was charged again after making NUMEROUS phone calls to cancel. Was assured each time it was done. Was told I would be refunded and never was. Never received a conformation email as promised and was charged again today October 14!!!!.Version: 3.1.0

ScamThis app is a scam. I cancelled it at the end of last month and have the screen shots with everything for my subscription to show and confirm everything was cancelled and ended at the end of January. I received a payment confirmation 2 days ago- and the app is still not even enabled. I emailed back the email that said they charged me and they said they are “unable and I cancel over email.” But I wasn’t cancelling over email, it was already cancelled, I was showing them proof I should not have been charged. I called immediately after getting the email and of course it’s “closed” and I need to call only during a work day when I’m already busy working myself- nothing can be easy. I already canceled this- STOP CHARGING ME..Version: 3.9.0

Waste of MoneyI’ve been using Aura for several months and it continues to disappoint. The password manager feature has been broken since day 1, and customer service has done absolutely nothing to fix it. After spending 10+ hours on the phone with them over several days not one person was able to fix my issue, so I still cannot access this feature. Both mobile and PC versions are difficult to use and have had unexplained technical difficulties. I also get up to 5 emails for the same alert, which is just annoying. Lastly the vpn is basically useless, it only allows you to connect to one server, and it slows down your internet considerably. Aura fails here because it tries to do too much, and it doesn’t do any one of them as good as apps that focus on just doing one really well. Hopefully in a few years time they will have worked out all the kinks, but as it sits now you’re better off using different services that actually deliver on their promises..Version: 2.17.1

Jump through hoopsI had an aura subscription a couple months ago or so, and I had canceled the subscription for whatever reason. Now, when coming back, I go to log into my account and it won’t let me, stating that since my subscription has been cancelled , I have to call customer service. Customer service helped me set up a “new” account even though I already had one . It only gave me the option for a free trial because it was under the impression my account was new. It accepts payment for 2 weeks free trial then 15$ a month after . I get into the account , check some stuff on the app, then go back to check about a half hour later, it’s logged me out and giving me the same “call customer service prompt “ and canceled my subscription because I had already apparently used my free trial. Any other site would have recognized me as an already active account, let me resubscribe no problem, and be about my day. Instead I’m jumping through hoops. Taking my business elsewhere.Version: 2.6.1

A Jack of All Trades is a Master of NoneI'm going to keep this short because there is a free trial that you can use and form your own opinion. The biggest draw is its all-in-one functionality. You sign up and log in and then you are given a tour of all its services an features. Yes, it does everything it advertises but doesn't do it great. The biggest disappointment is the password manager. Unlike other services that allow you to import or save passwords as you use them, Aura requires you to type everything in like you're using a secure notepad or something. The VPN is ok but lacks features that other VPNs have for cheaper. Finally, lets talk about the Data broker. I have no proof but after I canceled my membership I started getting 5-6 spam calls a day and 20 or so marketing texts. I suspect they take your info and send a removal request to every company regardless if they even have your info. Well now 500 companies know that you have a live and working number. Like I said, try it out.Version: 2.26.3

Credit Reports never update and show no historyEquifax and Transunion say they update yearly but Experian is supposed to update monthly. The last update the app shows for Experian is May 2022. It also shows I have no credit history from all three credit reports. I called Aura customer service and they were apathetic towards resolving the issue and told me to log on from a computer instead. Update October 2022: My payment method expired and I get emails that they were unable to process the payment. But nowhere in the app can I find a place to update payment information. Another call to the less than helpful support informed me I need to do that on the site as well. It seems this app is pretty useless if everything “needs to be done on the site” according to their customer support..Version: 2.15.1

Doesn’t DeliverAfter 30 days of use, I’m still unable to add the additional call protection feature. This was the main reason I signed up. Still getting calls from scammers daily. Activity log hasn’t shown anything since the day I signed up. Credit monitoring is not accurate. This service seems a bit gimmicky. It kind of does what they advertise but not really. I won’t be renewing. UPDATE - Since registration, only 20 data brokers have been asked to remove my info, so far zero of them have complied. It’s been 60 days now. 1 telemarketer has complied. Still unable to use the call protection, even after contacting Aura..Version: 2.28.0

Deceitful businessI wanted to get something to help control and monitor my children’s screen time. It advertised a special price of $100 for the year. I decided to purchase, but for some reason when I purchased it automate me up for two week trial. I wasn’t too concerned since the advertised price said it would be in effect for longer than the time of the “free trial” The when the free trial was up my card was charged $270. I tried to cancel and it won’t let me cancel until the year subscription paid for is up. So in other words they won’t refund me anything. This company that supposedly protects you from thieves is really shady and dishonest in their business. Afterwards I also read reviews of people feeling that when they canceled the company sold their information. Don’t buy or even try it. There is corruption in the company. Even if the product works the business is making money doing being dishonest..Version: 3.8.1

2 immediate problemsI have been trying for 1/2 a day to have my wife activate her account invite. Tech support keeps sending a new link and the site asks her to sign in with her password. She can’t. She has to create the account first! Now I have to wait up to 2 days for someone to help. If they can’t do something simple like create an account how much faith do I have that they can help us if we have a serious problem? 2nd Problem. The app shows me I have two cars in the past in my name. I never owned those cars at all. When I asked what to do? I was told I have to go to the DMV and talk to them. That could take a very long time. I thought Aura would have a service to assist with that online..Version: 2.27.5
