MacroFactor - Macro Tracker for Negative User Reviews

2.5 stars rounded downI tried this out for two weeks. I didn't feel 2 weeks was enough time to really try it out. There were many frustrating things about trying to log food and countless times my data was lost after I added a food item. I did not like the dashboard because it shows individual bars rather than a pie chart like My fitness pal, which is free. I feel like it took the full two weeks to finally kinda get the hang of the formatting. Even if I won like a years worth of subscription I think I’d still prefer My fitness pal’s free version to this. There is also a lot of incorrect food labels when you scan them. I’m not sure what this app is trying to do differently. In many responses to criticism of the app, paragraphs are written to try to explain how it’s different from other apps, which I feel just proves it’s not really much different if it’s so complicated to explain? You can add your new weight into my fitness pal every week and do the adjustments yourself..Version: 2.5.14

Great if you live in the USThe app is very well designed and easy to use, however it is missing a lot of basic foods In comparison to my fitness pal, there is a severe difference in how many aussie based foods are listed, it was quite dissapointing considering this is a paid service and MFP is free I hope in future it’s developed further to include all foods from countries other than USA.Version: 2.2.10

Don’t see the valueThis app doesn’t offer anything that isn’t also offered on the free tier of myfitnesspal but for some reason it is a paid subscription. The only difference is that the goal setting is slightly better and the whole app’s scope is simpler and more directly focused on macro tracking. If all the features currently in this app were free I would use it over myfitnesspal, and if there was an actual useful feature that makes sense to be on a subscription model premium tier then I would probably also pay for the premium tier… but as of now there is no feature in this app that is worth paying for. Kind of disappointed that Jeff Nippard is promoting it in its current state. It feels like the developers are just taking advantage of the people that sign up for the free trial and forget to cancel before they have to pay for it. To be honest that sales tactic is predatory and should be banned from app stores. Not a good look, Jeff, I used to consider you as one of the people that offers recommendations I could trust but this app promotion is a little too far on the “selling out” side of things..Version: 1.0.10

Doesn’t actually track correctlyLooks all shiny and beautiful until you double check what you are tracking and it’s incorrect. I’ve reported macro and micro nutrients as incorrect several times and the response is “it’s down to nutritionists adding correct info”, “it’s down to the manufacturer to add the right info” and “you can track generic common items as branded items depend on the manufacturer” - which might be okay apart from MFP and Chronometer have no trouble reporting correct macro and micro nutrients on the same products and items..Version: 2.2.10

Five stars, if it wasn’t a subscription serviceFed up of subscriptions. Wish there was a fairly priced lifetime option..Version: 2.3.1

They take the money right away, no Free TrialThe app offers 7 days free trial but when I accepted and subscribe they charge your credit card right away. Avoid.Version: 1.6.11

DiscriminationDear Grog, i don't wanna be mean but I have had an issue with your recent update, which allows users to put a widget on my phone. I have not received this update, although all of my friends have. I have tried to be patient, & I have also tried fixing it. I restarted my phone, I updated my phone, I deleted the app, I logged out of my account, I tried updating the app multiple times, & nothing. No widget option on my phone. I don't understand why I am being excluded. I am hurt, & overall shocked that Grog could exclude someone like this. I would appreciate if you would give me this update. I don't find it nice to be excluding anyone from your updates, & I don't know why you chose me to exclude. But it is unfair, and I would like to receive this update as soon as possible. I think I deserve this, especially after you never let me use the "Sexy Grog" stickers as well. I have since gotten over it, but now I cannot let you exclude me any longer. Please give me this update, I do not deserve this. It's truly disgusting & rude of you to just leave me out. I really want this update, I am so mad you chose to leave me out of this update, out of all of the updates you have made. I love widgets, & I really would like to put it on my phone. I don't know why you're targeting me like this, but it needs to stop. Please provide me with this update, I would love to put widgets on my phone. Thank you Sent from my iPhone.Version: 2.3.0

Not worth it if you are Canadian just yetIt is missing a very vast amount of Canadian foods which sometimes have different SKUs depending on the provinces. Otherwise, this is much better than my fitness pal.Version: 1.5.3

Doesn’t work at allThe app just does not work, let’s me create an account and then glitches so I can’t add any details, I tried uninstalling and still glitched! Shame.Version: 1.2.6

Tracking is a breeze, but that’s its.Checkins don’t even ask for a weight update and then it adjusts calories based on god knows what? And when I do I put a new weight, a new low on a gaining plan it decreased my calories. Doesn’t seem like a very smart tool. Gonna try carbon..Version: 1.6.3

Same feature as free appsSad that jeff is promoting this app, make me wonder if he changed his way of sincerity recommendations. First the app does not offer anyway game changing, you can get the same result from other free apps like carb managers or MFP. This app have no free version which, so you cant tried the app without having to subscribe that we ALL know we always forget so with are caught. If they were to introduce a free version with the core function to test like carb manager does, where they block most of the data from log etc, it leave the basic calories, carb, proteins and fat so we can get to know and TRUST the app before giving our money. Very sad, but this is going to be one of those app I will tell people to stay away, a least until the figure a honest way for new people to test the app. The app itself works fine and got good features, bit you get most of all of the same from free version of other apps. And if you are not looking for fancy stuff and just logging others do better and free. Carbs manager food database is huge, and you can submit product or custom receipts if there are not in the database and THERE IS A FREE version..Version: 1.2.4

Has promise, but limited and quite expensive for what it does.$17.50AUD for a basic calorie tracker is a bit outrageous. The ability to have higher calorie days is good but otherwise the app falls a bit flat for me. There’s a strategy section of the app, but no ability to actually plan or strategise. It’s simply a dashboard with an overview of agents and goals. The actual Dashboard tab is a repeat of this information, just a slightly different view. The database seems to be limited to the US, with no obvious means to submit food to be added to the database. The section to add foods to track intake is also quite buggy. Eg. Once I’ve clicked on the plus icon to log food, I need to click on “log item” to go back, even if nothing is logged. If I click on quick add, I’m forced to either add a food item, or close the app and reopen. I can’t go back..Version: 2.4.7

It's a passIt's a pass from me. If you usethis app for 10 years you will have paid £630, for what? An app tracking calories and suggesting a TDEE? Come on guys... Interesting concept, and well designed however at this point one could have a million subscriptions on apps on their phone and iPads and what not. I understand this is a very profitable model for the devs, however I disagree with paying a subscription for an app, no matter how good it is. Hope more people do the same so that devs start giving alternative and more fair options!.Version: 2.5.7

Not worth the moneyDon’t waste your money. Barely any of the actual food we have (Australia) so your constantly having to quick add things to make up for it. Barcode scanner works intermittently or will scan up the wrong item. Almost the same as every other free macro tracker..Version: 1.3.10

Almost ThereThe app is very well designed and does what you want it to do. However, after using this for one month I have found many Australian foods to be missing from the database or have incorrect energy content. If the Australian database was updated and an option provided to switch Calories to Kilojoules across the entire app I would happily renew my subscription. The database problems has made it quite difficult to track macros accurately, defeating the purpose of the app..Version: 2.2.15

Not worth switching yet.Impressions after the free trial: The app is alright, the interface is handy and the features will likely work well in the long term for adjusting eating habits, almost every food I scan is missing. It may be because I’min Canada scanning Canadian foods, but it’s still an unfortunate reality of the app. It’s a minor inconvenience to have to build every food item before tracking, but it’s a larger inconvenience than MyFitnessPal’s ads, and MFP is free. Not worth the switch yet - at least not while I’m paying full price for it..Version: 1.4.4

Good but not perfectLiked it enough to buy a membership since it’s cheap, but the food logger database isn’t as extensive as MFP, AI describe is hit or miss and usually miss, and having to remove a logged food to edit then log it again is annoying. Looks cool though and I like the check-in feature, as well as not showing overages by default to encourage habit building. Helped me get my macros under control..Version: 1.6.14

Still on 7 day trial…I cannot upload photos even though I am following the help section on how to do. Is this because MacroFactor doesn’t work on Apple IPads? I tap the empty photo space but nothing happens. Curious about other possible glitches before I purchase..Version: 2.2.15

Kinda disappointed but wait hear me outI love Jeff nippard I’ve been watching his content for years! I figured it was about time I download his app and give it a shot. Went threw all the hype in the into of the app just to realize I had to pay, don’t get my wrong I want to supposed Jeff and his journey to greatness and id love to pay for his app but I don’t think you can put a price on health, you shouldn’t have to pay to get knowledge of being healthy, you should be willing to provide this service so people don’t have a reason to back out, I know a lot of people who back out of healthy things simply because price holds them back. I feel like if you were to go abouts this it should be like “my fitness pal” a free and paid version, cause at least I can show people new to health that it’s easy to be healthy and that is what makes me happy..Version: 2.1.4

TerribleJust had to create multiple accounts with different email addresses and when I go to sign in it just keep refreshing the sign in page. So I’m paying for something I can’t use 👏🏼 nice work, guys..Version: 1.2.6

App BrokenWorked fine for a month, now it only shows a black screen.Version: 2.4.0

Populating my food list is madeningThe tone of this app is much appreciated. Serious and clear, not cartoony, and not full of “great jobs!!!” On the downside, I’ve been using this app for 3 days, and I’m close to being fed up with it. The UI is full of context-sensitive button lists, (including copy/paste) but it’s bloody impossible to figure out how to simply add entries from the calendar to a list of my foods. Even copy/paste is not available. Even the contextual “send to” list doesn’t include an option of adding to a list of my own! I can’t even find so much as a “recent entries” list. So, I’m having to search recipes and foods all over again. I’m one of those people who hates any superfluous time on my phone. This app makes me want to throw it out a window..Version: 1.6.11

Waste of moneyI have a subscription to this service, but I'm unable to log in. When I attempt to log in, it seems to go into an endless loop. I've reached out about this issue before but didn't receive a response. I've been paying £63 per year for this service, yet I haven't been able to use the app effectively. Previously, I had the app on my phone, but it couldn't find any foods when I tried to search or log them, even for well-known brands. It only allowed me to log items I had previously entered. In an attempt to resolve this issue, I deleted the app and reinstalled it, but the problem persisted. Now, I'm also encountering difficulties with logging in. This situation needs to be addressed, or I believe I should receive a refund..Version: 2.2.17

Great visual, missing a lot of foodOptions are extremely limited, wouldn’t say it’s worth it yet. I couldn’t find Bone-in chicken thigh unless I looked in the branded frozen category..Version: 1.6.14

Good tracking app. Beware of double charge every month. The app is great overall. But they charged me the subscription fees twice a month for a while before I noticed and called apple. MacroTracker doesn’t want to refund anything themselves nor take responsability. They just claim i willingly subscribed twice.. lol. Beware of it and enjoy the rest. Cheers.Version: 2.3.1

Extremely DisappointingWas very keen to try this app as I’ve followed SBS and paid for their products for a while now. Unfortunately the app DOES NOT WORK at all. No matter my method of signing up or logging in, the app bugs out and resets it’s self to the opening page. I’ve deleted and redownloaded 3 times yet the problems persist. What a shame..Version: 1.0.7

Not great food databaseProbably fine for U.S brands but in Australia I was adding everything manually. It wasn’t worth it for me.Version: 1.0.9

Most Australian foods don’t workI like the design and idea, but considering that it costs 17.50 AUD, you would expect the database for the barcode scanner to have Australian food too. Instead, most Australian barcodes don’t work. The vast majority of the available foods are for the US.Version: 2.5.9

2.4.0 update broke the app for meThe update just broke the app for me. I tried to edit food on the timeline but it just refused to do so and freeze the app and now it just completely stopped working (as in black screen when I open it) after I reinstall the app. Help..Version: 2.4.0

Poor coachingThe strategy function has been poor for me. Although I have set my cut periods to 1 pound a week, after loosing 2-3 pounds it still likes to cut calories by 5-10%. This is simply not congruent with my goals of holding into muscle mass. Other apps built in coach are far superior. Barcode function works very well, so 3 stars for that.Version: 1.6.14

App freezes way too muchOnly had the app for two days and it continuously freezes. I have to close it and re open multiple times in order for it to refresh and function. For how much it cost and all the hype I’m not too impressed.Version: 1.6.7

Great app idea & Terrible UX and UII download the app, set my goals and everything but it’s impossible to log food without having a mental breakdown! Hope they improve it. So I can come back and use. :(.Version: 1.6.10

Not Canadian-friendlyI want to like this app but there are so many Canadian foods not on the list. Quite disappointed considering Jeff is a Canadian, I was hoping the Canadian food database would be more extensive. I’d try this app again if it improved its database like MFP..Version: 1.6.16

BuggyLove the app functionality and interface, switched from Myfitnesspal. Only issue is that it has gotten progressively buggier for me over time. Sometimes I can’t tap on anything in the app, others I open the app and the screen is black. Currently unusable for me..Version: 2.4.0

Great app but bad iPad supportThis is an amazing calorie and food tracker but I'm disappointed that such an expenisive app does not support landscape view on the iPad and there's no widgets as well. A real shame as these are now basic iOS/iPadOS features..Version: 2.1.5

Not easy enough to useIt just doesn’t make logging food easy enough for me to continue paying for it as I find myself dreading inputting food unless I have a barcode to scan… searching for foods is clunky and the database of foods isn’t deep enough. For example, I found my usual Starbucks drink but not in Venti and also the nutrition facts didn't match the Starbucks website. Spent 15 minutes trying to find the right one and eventually just added it myself. Took me a bit to get used to the interface. The biggest challenge, not only specific to this app, is logging food that you don’t prepare yourself which even when you create every recipe… is so incredibly time consuming. I found building recipes more laborious on than previous apps. I’ve already done a lot of that in Myfitnesspal and find editing in there easier despite the wealth of bad or old food data. Just can’t see myself paying for MacroFactor… yet..Version: 1.6.16

Poor databaseDatabase of foods is poor and even scanning barcodes give wrong information of macros. Also the price is the same as Myfitnesspal, so what’s the point. And your data is hidden after free trial. Waste of time, resorting to myfitnesspal..Version: 2.2.15

Poor UK food databaseI love the look and the UI of the app, as well as the automatic correction of calories required to reach your end goal when paired with consistent weigh ins. However, almost everything that I scan is not recognised and requires me to manually input calories and macros of everything I eat. Something that may take a few seconds on the FREE version of MFP now takes a good few minutes and sometimes a calculator when portions aren’t exactly multiples of 100g. Potential to be a great app but I’m not sure it should be available in the UK or Europe until the food data base has more data. Il be jumping back across to the free version of MFP until then..Version: 2.5.15

Unfortunately just not worth it outside the US…Currently on day 2 of my 2 week trial, and app still has not been able to detect my food with the barcode. And I’m talking simple things like canned tuna and packet rice here in Australia. The camera on the app cannot focus on the nutrient label when it’s close, and then when it focuses further away it’s too far to read the label and register the carbs/protein/fat. I end up having to manually input everything and it’s getting too cumbersome given that this is a paid app. It’s upsetting since the app is nicely designed with a great UI and it’s really helpful that it calculates your required macros automatically. Wish it was more useful in Australia… will have to regretfully cancel my subscription until this is fixed..Version: 2.5.9

Constant correctionsThe app itself is great, but approximately 80% of the food you scan in, has previously been recorded incorrectly, so almost everything needs correcting. It only takes a minute, but still, tracking a meal might take 5 minutes instead of seconds like it would on another app. This is down to other users and not the app itself but it really is the apps biggest problem I’ve found so far. The quick search function is borderline unusable so don’t even bother Also if you’re in the UK, some barcodes have USA counterparts that have different names, macros etc which makes it confusing. It would be nice to be able to add actual pictures instead of emojis and permanently correct wrong macro information.Version: 2.2.12

It has promiseI give it 3 stars because it has great potential, you can tell a lot of development and thought went into it. But the UX/UI isn’t the best. It’s clean looking, but difficult to navigate just to do something simple. I created a custom food, and when I went to “+” it just edits? NONE of my foods would pop up or show up, when I wanted to add food. There was no option for your recipes etc. It took forever to find out I had to type in the name of my created food and THEN it would pop up. For all the wrong things MyFitnessPal does, it does the basics like editing food and logging it nice and simple. I shouldn’t have to spend 10 minutes trying to navigate to do something that should only take 1 min tops. Again, it has promise and maybe I’ll re download down the road when they implement a simpler UX and features..Version: 1.0.7
