✓ Warms my eco-eco heartAfter reading all the bad reviews on here, I felt compelled to put in my own two cents (pun intended). I don’t disbelieve all the people saying the app has been buggy for them. But perhaps it’s been updated since then, as I’ve had really no issues to speak of. There was a brief time a couple months ago when I couldn’t change my location radius, but that was it. I’ve gotten gifts for family and friends through Buy Nothing, and I just love the concept. When I think of how much it’s saving from landfills, it warms my heart. Like many other reviewers, I’m not on Facebook, and I love that this app means I can still be a part of such a wonderful community without needing to go back..Version: 2.0.4
✓ A good startI was so happy to find this app because I don’t use Facebook but wanted to participate. I’ve gifted one item already and planning a few others. There are two things I think could improve this app. First, I would love to be able to filter to just asks so I could quickly see if I have something I could give. Second, it doesn’t seem that responses to a post trigger notifications, so I had to keep checking the app for messages, since most messages are outside of the inbox. Unifying the messages/inbox would be ideal..Version: 2.0.3
✓ A great concept, app is a little klunkyFirst of all I am so so grateful that this happens so we can all get off Facebook! That being said, the functionality of this app is still pretty clunky and there are a few fixes (app dev team, I’m looking at you) that need to happen before it will have the full functionality and ease of use of working within Facebook groups. First we need to be able to reply to comments in a post thread —Without replies the comments section on posts is pretty difficult to follow. Additionally in the Messages section, I do not understand why the sent from me messages are displaying on the left side of the screen, and those of my message partner are on the right — this is the opposite of how (at least the English speaking world) expects messages to appear, so it’s very graphically confusing..Version: 1.3.2

✓ Current version (not beta) is amazing and way better than Facebook!All these negative reviews hating on the Buy Nothing Project founders or BETA version (that means the original version of the app that was used to test the app out) are completely irrelevant to how awesome this app actually is. I have been a part of Buy Nothing since 2016 on Facebook where I started a very successful local group. There were so many times that I wanted to remove my Facebook account but couldn’t because of how much I loved Buy Nothing. But now the app is here and it’s actually BETTER than the groups! The app gives everyone an opportunity to freely give and receive items and acts of service, regardless of where they are. Users can easily change their location and radius as it changes which makes Buy Nothing way more equitable to people who travel, live on the road, are experiencing homelessness and people who move frequently. It’s really easy to post your gifts and update their availability. My only complaint is that there aren’t more people using the app but that will change with time. Anyone can help spread the news by posting flyers or just telling friends and family and neighbors. Once this app has more users in your neighborhood you will truly feel the wealth of this gift from the Buy Nothing app team. Just give it a try and share the news!.Version: 1.6
✓ Bad Reviews are Outdated- This is GREAT!!I am so happy to be able to get off Facebook and keep on BuyNothinging lol in a setting made for it. The old reviews seem to be from before it was even officially released. You can now login without linking to socials, upload pictures and videos easily, react to posts, private message, etc. As someone who has participated on Facebook BuyNothing groups, this is so much better! When you make a post you can identify it as a gift, ask, or gratitude off the bat. One of the biggest level ups from the Facebook experience is having a feed of your own activity all in one place even if you’ve moved locations. For those of you new to BuyNothing, enjoy and welcome to the community I’m so excited about the future of the movement with this app!.Version: 1.2.1

✓ Love this amazing app!I’ve been an active Buy Nothing neighbor since the early days, and now I love using the app. It has been substantially updated and refined with excellent new features since the beta version. It’s easy to use and functions similarly to other social apps with scrolling through posts that you can like or comment on. I’ve noticed the app has more moderator presence compared to my facebook group, and that is appreciated. The feature I like best is being able to go straight to my own posts to update them, and to find messages specifically from Buy Nothing neighbors rather than wandering around all the names in the fb messenger app. This app is organized, efficient, and a pleasure to use!.Version: 1.6

✓ Great Idea with a few glitchesThis app is designed to reduce the amount of waste in our society and reduce the carbon footprint created by buying new items. This is a wonderful thing. As with all Buy Nothing Groups, it takes a while to build up membership to the point where nearly everything is gifted and there are many items available. It is much easier to post and delete things that you want to give away than the Facebook group. However, there are some glitches. Responding to posts is hard and I often find I have to respond several times before it shows up. Also, I get an extra notification for messages that I have already read..Version: 1.3.2

✓ Finally an app!!I am so glad there is finally an app and I don’t have to use social media. Yay! I’m new to BuyNothing but from what I understand there was many small communities that people belonged to which I get but since it’s new not everybody has gone to the app yet making it a smaller pool community who are much more spread out. Good and bad. Since not everyone is from an affluent community to gift/receive from you have access to more opportunities you may not of had from your own community but, can make driving a lot further and less local. My best analogy is bussing for desegregation…too much? 😬 oh well. I have been gifted so many wonderful things and it has definitely been a major plus in my life. I do wish you could copy and paste since not everyone uses the address icon and I get the numbers all mixed up..Version: 1.8.1
✓ Sense of communityI’m not a boomer so I’m not on Facebook dealing with gatekeepers that prefer to give to a select few people that they know. This app is about interacting with new people and fostering community. This app is my only experience with BN communities and so far it has been overwhelmingly positive. I recently gave away 90% of my belonging in order to travel abroad for a spell. Gifting felt incredible, I needed to lighten my load and everyone who picked up their items had a story to share and well wishes for me on my journey. I am grateful for every single interaction on the app. It is by far my favorite app because it is community focused, sustainable and anticapitalist. I truly don’t know how this app got made because it runs counter to the principles of VC funding. Unlike Facebook it is not an app that sells your data to whoever asks for it, either. Wild, right in 2022?!? I honestly don’t know how it is exists but I am happy that it does. Thank you thank you thank you!.Version: 1.8.1
✓ Saying no to FBI made a Google email so I could sign up for pintrest. Lucky me it doubles and works as a “jet” for this app. It is just a free email that collects junk. I don’t understand why people are mad they need a gmail account. It is better choice than needing evil Facebook. I deleted FB months ago. My over all health improved. It was like quitting smoking. I am so glad there is a buy nothing app. So far nobody in my area. But! I have hope. I love to give away things. I have posted free things on the next door app with no luck. I hope people will tell the ones on the BN FB groups there is a app. For the ones complaining about ads. Do you work for free? Do you complain about ads on social media? ✓ Often cannot use the back arrow.The app sometimes doesn’t let me go back with the arrow at the top left. It won’t make me stop using it but it is rather annoying to have to close the app and reopen..Version: 2.0.2
