Sven's SudokuPad for Negative User Reviews

Loved this, but needs an update. This is by far, the best sudoku app out there, but it is in desperate need of an update. I don’t even use it anymore, just the web app. I wish Sven would update this and the one in Steam..Version: 1.3.1.1

NO VARIATIONS!!!From going through the website for this app, I was under the impression that variations (such as are on Cracking the Cryptic) cloud be made on this. WELL THEY CAN’T! I wanted to make sandwich sudoku. NOPE. Vanilla sudoku only. I can find that at plenty of sites online for free, but I bought it here for the variations. I have made no puzzles and solved no puzzles, and still can’t get a refund for the purchase. Regret regret regret. If you just want to play puzzles others have made, or make vanilla puzzles, you might like this. I wouldn’t know, because I haven’t solved any..Version: 1.3.1.1

Won’t loadI can’t get it to work on my iPhone and yet I’ve been charged to my bank account. It doesn’t load. What do I do?.Version: 1.1.3

DisappointingWas really hoping for an interface similar to the Cracking the Cryptic Classic Sudoku app. That’s the best sudoku interface I’ve seen. This doesn’t highlight rows or columns when a number is selected, which I find an essential tool for any sudoku app. And it’s number select input isn’t as smart as the other Cracking app. With that it new if you had multiple numbers selected you were obviously doing pencil marks..Version: 1.2.1

Let the buyer bewareOn the positive: The controls are excellent which is why it got the extra star. Can make your own games if you want(and know how) But: The app only comes with 10 puzzles plus 2 bonus puzzles(Jan. 2024). If you want more puzzles you have to find somewhere online to download. You can watch his youtube vids which provide a link to one puzzle. Want another puzzle, watch another video. When I tried to download a puzzle from his site it gave an error: does not contain valid share data Way to much effort and annoyance…. and it didn’t even work. I cannot believe you have to search for content for a paid app. Never seen that before. You can tell from the website all they care about is money. Mostly links to where you can buy things, even merchandise. Links to download puzzles for the app you just bought? Nope. We got your money and you’re on your own now..Version: 1.3.1.1

Doesn't work for many puzzles anymoreHalf the puzzles on the channel either don't open (giving an error) or are fog of war and shouldn't be opened on the app because the whole fog is displayed..Version: 1.3.1.1

Does not save progressI was excited about this app, and liked the different notations available and the fact that you can add other sudokus to use the app’s functionalities to solve them. The main problem I had with it, which for me is a big one, is the fact that it did not save the progress I made in the sudoku. Short pauses were ok, but when I left a puzzle to continue the following day, I had to start from scratch. It had not saved neither the pencil markings nor the numbers I had found..Version: 1.2.1

Worse than the free webappI appreciate all the work which went into the webapp, and I don’t mind supporting the developer with a monetary donation. But my honest review of this app is that I wouldn’t keep it even if it were free. I hope they can improve on this app, which would be fantastic with more features. In particular, I was hoping for an index of puzzles. Something to differentiate from the webapp without handicapping the webapp’s features either. Best of luck!.Version: 1.3.1.1

Pencil marksAll of a sudden no way to input pencil marks?.Version: 1.2.3

Not as full features as the web versionThere’s no question that Sven’s app is the best Sudoku app available to download. But unfortunately it’s not the best Sudoku app available. That would be Sven’s web version of the app. Over the past year, that app has consistently received more and more improvements, enhancements, and features, while those of us who downloaded the iOS version have been left behind. It’s gotten to the point where I no longer even bother opening the app any longer to play CTC puzzles, because playing on the web is such a better experience..Version: 1.3.1.1

A dead appOn loading, none off the buttons worked on my iPad. I tried to access the support link but it doesn't seem to be supported..Version: 1.2.1

Started good but is deterioratingThis app started as a great idea and I immediately bought it when it came out. But over time it has started drifting from the web app and is slowly becoming unusable because the author isn’t updating it. For example Killer Cages don’t render visibly anymore and every time I report a bug to the author they always say it is fixed in the web app but don’t ever port the fox to this app. Don’t buy this until the author starts supporting it with updates..Version: 1.3.1.1

Import brokeIf the import feature still worked it would get 5 stars, since I bought it for that feature, it’s worthless to me..Version: 1.3.1.1

Selection button doesnt seem to workWhen you select a square, it stays selected, you have to unselect it to choose the next square.Version: 1.3.1.1

Great app for Cracking the Cryptic fans but needs better Mac supportIt is a great companion app for Cracking the Cryptic fans. However, compare to Cracking the Cryptic app, Mac support fo this app is dismal. I can't even use keypad to enter numbers. Cracking the Cryptic app (written by the same person) at least has some support for Mac but this one needs the same level of care..Version: 1.3.1.1

All My Puzzles are goneAfter the new update which lets me share puzzles. I opened my app to find all the puzzles I entered and completed are gone leaving only the original puzzles. It’s a nice app and I enjoyed adding new puzzles and playing them but it sad I spent all that time adding the puzzles just for them to be gone like that. This and sometimes the app won’t let me scroll through my puzzles are the only complaints but they’re very annoying issues that led me to write this unsatisfied review..Version: 1.1.3

Recently disappointingI have been happily using this app for many many months now. In the last few days it no longer remembers progress through puzzles, upon re-opening a partially completed puzzle, the progress gets completely reset. Not sure why…?.Version: 1.3.1.1

Close to perfect, but missing some puzzlesLove the app and very happy to support Sven for their hard work. Unfortunately, some of the puzzles from Cracking the Cryptic don’t load because they don’t have the correct share data. I really only got the app to do those puzzles on my phone. The puzzles that do work are great fun though..Version: 1.3.1.1

Missing many features in puzzle setting mode, no variantsExtremely disappointed with this app. I was hoping I could use it to build puzzles but this was clearly not designed for that purpose. In the puzzle setting mode you can’t add corner or center pencil marks or color cells different colors. The only think keeping this from a 1 star review is that it does have some good puzzles built in for you to solve, but there just aren’t enough of them. One other complaint - with this app being associated with Cracking the Cryptic, I expected some puzzles to feature sudoku variant rules, or the puzzle setting mode to allow adding custom rules and features to your puzzles (killer cages, thermos, etc.) but no, it’s classics only. Not worth the $5. It would be okay if it started free and featured only the classic puzzles, and the variants and additional classics would be locked behind a $5 paywall. If you’re looking for classic sudoku puzzles to solve, just watch the Cracking the Cryptic videos on classic puzzles and solve those. If you’re looking for a puzzle setting tool, just use f-puzzles or penpa..Version: 1.3.1.1

STILL doesn’t save progress.Back to other apps..Version: 1.2.1

Great app lacking in updatesBy far the best sudoku app. As the app doesn’t come with a vast range of puzzles pre-loaded you’ll need to know where to source puzzles yourself. This however is not a problem for myself. The reason for the drop in two stars is due to the lack in updates the app gets. Compared to the web version of the app which receives updates regularly and even has a beta version for new features, the iOS version updates are seemingly far and few between. There’s lots of new features available on the web version which I wish were available on the app also. The puzzle library is also very clunky. I wish there were better ways of sorting and storing different puzzles and more customisation available (folders would be great addition here)..Version: 1.3.1.1

Defective appI fill in the right numbers and it keeps telling me that I made a mistake. I want my money back..Version: 1.3.1.1

Absolute junk!Whatever I do it tells me I’ve made a mistake. Even if I’ve only made one move which is 100% correct. I’ve been doing Sudoku for years. I want my money back. DO. NOT. BUY! If you buy an app and delete it within 24 hours you should get your money back..Version: 1.3.1.1

Not up to dateA little disappointed that the functionality of this app seems to be a long way behind the one used in cricking the cryptic despite it being advertised on Mark and Simons their channel. Surely this has not been updated for a while..Version: 1.3.1.1

Finally! Finally get to save the YT puzzles all in one place. The features are basic, so it does not have cloud saves or ways to categorize the puzzles. It does not stop the clock when the app is out of focus. However, there are some bugs that are really annoying to deal with: - Scalability: Once there are 100+ puzzles, the app becomes really slow (10+ seconds delay) when going back to the puzzle listing. - Sorting: The sort order seems to have issues. The date sort can return incorrect results, making it a bit hard to find the latest puzzle that I am working on - Saving: Sometimes, exiting the puzzle (by pressing the back button) does not save the progress. There is this one puzzle that I have “finished” multiple times and the results are not saved. There is also this one puzzle that is marked as completed but when you select it, it claims it is not completed..Version: 1.2.1

Just use the web appThe web app works great. This app is missing features, and has a broken undo/redo. Sadly after I bought it I’m still using the web app..Version: 1.3.1.1

A little disappointedI thought it’d be a copy of the CTC web app. And the puzzles I’d create, I’ll be able to share it as link of the web app. Turns out it’s its own thing! The other party has to own the app as well to be able to play the puzzles I created..Version: 1.3.1.1

Falling way far behindA lot of the new rule sets don’t work well on this version, and this app is falling behind. It’s been a year since the last update..Version: 1.3.1.1

Buttons won’t workThe various buttons eg settings, back etc work approximately one tap in ten, if I’m lucky, iPad works fine, what is wrong?.Version: 1.3.1.1

No fog :’(There is no fog in the fog of war puzzles and as simon would say… that’s cheating!.Version: 1.3.1.1

Good, but out of dateThis used to be a good native app but it’s now fallen too far behind the web version. For example, fog of war puzzles don’t display the fog, which removes all the challenge and fun. The hardware keyboard support no longer works properly on newer versions of iPadOS..Version: 1.3.1.1

BrokenDeleted puzzles keep coming back. Puzzles I’ve started but don’t finish vanish completely. Basically unusable. Even tried deleting and reinstalling..Version: 1.3.1.1

More for setters than playersI like it, it’s a good quick interface for sudoku once you’re used to it. I like that is has all sorts of non-standard stuff built in (I’m a beginner sudoku player but I’m a lot more attracted to puzzles based on sudoku, rather than the standard ones). But as a player, I really wish there were folders, a way to select and delete multiple puzzles at once, and preloaded puzzle packs from CTC. As it is I guess I’m going to go to YouTube, open a video, open comments, click the link, go back, open another video, click a link…and then eventually have a single massive list of unordered puzzles. Wish I’d paid attention before I bought it..Version: 1.3.1.1
