✓ Incredibly FrustratingThis game is beyond frustrating. The game design is all about pay to win just so happens it’s all unlocked because of Apple Arcade. You have 1 one chance to make it through the _entire_ game continuously without fail. You fail and you’re starting from level 1 the very beginning of the game?! Or you pay hard earned rewards that were ridiculously hard to get in the first place to continue. Reward which could be used to upgrade your ship but you can’t because you don’t want to start the freaking thing from scratch yet again. You cancel and choose to try level 2 or 3? pay some more because you’re not starting from level 1... How is this good game design? How is this even on Apple Arcade?!.Version: 1.0.2

✓ Arcade game - Freemium mechanicsIt’s obvious this is just the freemium / micro transaction game with the freemium parts removed. The excessively long wait times (originally there to get you to cough up cash) are beyond madness. I mean, 17 hours + wait before I can start collecting credits again? Why??! Yes, have something in place to ensure that you have to work for the rewards, but forcing me to wait longer and longer until I can start collecting again just gets me to a point where I’ll just not bother playing it. ✓ Enjoying this game but…I love this game because it is mobile and it is paired with Apple Arcade so I can play it anywhere and at anytime. But I experience glitches were when you die on the queen boss near the end it leaves but enemies keep on coming when warping to the next area it takes me to the center were I get ramed into the enemies causing me to lose a life.Version: 3.6.0

✓ Great game - shame about the free to play structureI love the concept of Apple Arcade and I welcome the introduction of games that are already on the App Store. However Galaga Wars+ is a lazy port. The basic Free to Play structure has not been modified for Apple Arcade. This makes the game a total grind and a grind you can’t accelerate by buying your way out of the loop. It’s disappointing because the core mechanics are fun and I really enjoy playing it. Apple should not be promote F2P games in Arcade unless they have had a serious overhaul to make them work on the paid platform. ✓ Fun game but ruined by F2P featuresThe core mechanics of this game is fun, based of a timeless arcade style game. However the cost to upgrade a ship, unlock a ship or to continue after a death is absolutely extortionate compared to the actual currency earned. After purchasing an upgrade which has likely used all your in game currency there is then a timer which you can skip by paying extra. ✓ Very frustrating.Potentially a good game but the developers need to change the F2P design which is all this game is with the P2P options simply removed. The game gets more difficult the longer you play it, in a seeming attempt to push you to pay for upgrades which you can’t in the Apple Arcade version. After playing for about half an hour you can’t get more than a few seconds into a level before you’re unavoidably killed off. So you have to stop playing and wait till the next day for the difficulty to “reset.” Which ironically means less royalties for the developers from Apple Arcade as we’re playing the game less..Version: 1.0.2

✓ Addicting but pretty bad gameThis whole game is revolved around scaling, and a lot of your survival until you’re able to get power ups is literally just based on luck. Sometimes it’s just impossible to survive which is just so ridiculously stupid. The cosmic challenges are also way too difficult, and again, largely based on luck because sometimes you get attacked in a way that makes it impossible to move out of the way. I think this game would be much easier with a mouse, but then you’re using your thumb/finger, you’re literally blocking the screen. I wouldn’t be surprised if the dimwitted developers/QAs did the testing with a mouse and didn’t realize how much much more difficult it is with your hands Don’t download this game..Version: 3.6.0

The removal of in-app-purchase without rethinking the mechanics means you make stupidly slow progress. e.g. You need tokens to unlock new ships which give you new lives, but you are prompted to use tokens as a life if you die. ✓ They’ve managed to screw this game up.I’ve been playing this game for years, so much so that I’m in the top 200 on the global leaderboards, so it pains me to write this review. This game is now terrible, as the developers, likely under pressure from Apple Arcade to keep updating the game (just a guess), have added a stupid crab boss that is so buggy, it makes the game unplayable. ✓ What a disappointment!The game seems fun until you get to some of the higher levels or the glitch just decides to show up earlier. You have to fight this scorpion looking boss at the end of some of the levels and this boss will totally disappear from the screen and shoots progressively more difficult rounds/bullets at you until there is no way for you to escape. While this is going on you can’t score any points because you are basically shooting at nothing. Add to that the phantom bullets that hit you out of nowhere and the last sector, as far as I can tell, that just never ends or you have to deal with the aforementioned bullets shot at you by no one and/or the indestructible enemies who somehow keep shooting at you after being hit 5-7 times!! When I started playing tonight with two existing credits, I then played 5 levels, each time picking up the credits. ✓ Good game spoiled by pay to play rootsIt’s a decent game with a good imagining of Galaga. However, its pay to play roots spoil it. Most blatant is the upgrade timer - it’s Apple Arcade - we’re not going to pay to play even if we wanted to! The boss fights are also unfair after the first few. If you die they come back full strength, but you lose any power ups, and many power ups are useless against the bosses anyway. If the damage to the boss was preserved after losing a life the game would be much better. What’s the point of having multiple ships of the level 10 boss will shred you if you have no power ups? Level 11 is the most fun as it has no bosses, but it is annoying to need warp capsules to get there. I don’t mind a bit of a grind to earn new ships, it gives a sense of achievement. Beyond that just let us play and enjoy the game. Please, please get rid of the redundant pay to play elements..Version: 1.0.2
✓ Nice game, severe implementation issuesGalaga is Galaga, which means it’s a nice arcade style game. The problems, however, are with its implementation: First, it doesn’t support a controller. That’s pretty much inexcusable for a game that defined the arcade experience. Second, despite the Apple Arcade factor, the game still features numerous exploitative mechanics that are meant to artificially keep you playing as well as artificially make you come back again. ✓ 5star concept, 3 star executionThis game is a nice update on a retro classic. Unfortunately, it falls just to the wrong side of that delicate balance of challenge and reward. It’s so hard that instead of of giving a sense of accomplishment, it just feels futile. The hit detection is too sensitive, and almost magnetic. You never get the benefit of the doubt. Power ups are either too infrequent or too short, and the cost of upgrades is slightly too much. This makes it so you have to replay endlessly to get anywhere. It wouldn’t be a problem, but it gets too hard, too fast so you never feel like there’s been progress. Your finger is always in the way, and you can never see what’s about to hit you, and it’s too hard to “thread the needle” and dodge the absolutely chaotic amount of things in the screen that seem random, yet almost possessed and always a step ahead. There’s good hard, and then there’s this game, which just misses the mark. Dial back the overweighted advantage on the enemies by 10% and this game might be great..Version: 3.5.1

✓ Fun but….I really like playing the game but I agree with others that the upgrades should happen when purchased instead of paying more or waiting 5 hours! There are also problems that the game often gets confused when swapping between profiles and you will find an different profiles upgrade rewards when you will swap to a different profile and if you do not catch it and pay for an upgrade it will take your money then eventually not register the upgrade because of the confusion. The game also often freeze when you return to a game and you lose all coins etc when it restarts. ✓ Too much grindGame itself is fun and well done. However, there is too much grind that is locked behind timers. For example, you can get one token per level per day. ✓ Used to enjoy this gameI’ve been playing the game for a couple of years now and have really enjoyed it. However, I’ve found that my enthusiasm has fallen off. The newish Cosmic Challenge is kind of fun if very difficult, and it’s great to be able to upgrade the ships. However, with the regular games, the perks you earn are worthless. I have over a million coins and thousands of other “rewards” that I have no use for. That has caused me to play a lot less, which may be a good thing since I’m on my phone less. ✓ Few issuesThe game feels unfinished. I’ve collected all the upgrades for all the ships and I still get a notification to “upgrade your ship”. So now, my coins and satellites are accumulating with no purpose. Why? Also, the Pac-Man ship advertises “new sectors” and “new enemies”, which encouraged me to persevere to get it. But it’s just false, there are no new sectors or enemies. Which was really disappointing after saving 150 satellites. Overall, it’s a lovely playing experience that I’ve enjoyed a lot. ✓ Fun but…The actual game is really good fun to play, like Phoenix on an old arcade, but the microtransaction side of the game is all still in place, so you can only progress with repetitive game play for credits. Even the upgrade timers are still in the game, even though it’s in Arcade, so you wouldn’t be buying credits to aid progression anyway. 5 star for the game play and 1 star for the f2p side of the game..Version: 1.0.2

✓ Arcade style nostalgia with P2P flawsI quite enjoy this game, however I echo other reviewers’ sentiments in that the pay to play elements have not been removed which makes the game incredibly frustrating. Developers, at the very least please remove the upgrade timer! After having to grind to amass enough for an upgrade, I then have to wait for the upgrade to take effect!??? Ruins the game for me. I remember the days of hardcore arcade gameplay; difficult games with few lives and maybe that’s what the developers are harkening back to with this port, but it just doesn’t work with a paid-for service such as Apple Arcade..Version: 1.0.2
