Pestle: Recipe Organizer for Positive User Reviews
✓ Great recipes organizerThis app is probably the best out there for recipes right now. I just wish we could assigned tags for the recipes for spicy, non dairy etc… and as well the possibility to add pictures in the cooking step, I feel it help a lot while cooking. But overall it is a great app. Thank you..Version: 1.3.3
✓ Feature requestOnly just downloaded the app and liking it already, however was a little misled by the strap of “import from anywhere” as I have most recipes in my Notes app, however “anywhere” seems to equal “from a browser”. Therefore, I’d love to see the import facility expanded to other apps such as Notes..Version: 1.0.2
✓ Easiest way to pull and save recipes from online sourcesMy son clued me in on this handy app, and I’m so glad he did. Search for a recipe. Copy the URL. Past it into your phone. And you have the recipe in its most useful layout. Simple and clear. It removes all the flowery words and bazillion photos that I don’t need to scroll through. Then if you want to make it again it’s ready!.Version: 1.2.8
✓ Great additionI hate having to go through all the backstory to ge to a recipe. This makes it super easy to export from a blog or magazine. And then all I have to do is start cooking. This app is starting to be one of my favourites. Do note it is new so it will grow. I have used the voice recognition to go to next step and back. It could use some works as it is not as responsive as I like. And I also would love to have a way too as my notes to the recipe or change it. I find that when I cook I might add something or experience something I would like to note. Would be a nice feature. Will continue to use and come back and re-review in a few weeks after I use it more..Version: 1.0.2
✓ Far and away the best recipe app ever!I have used a lot of recipe apps over the years, and this one stands out as the most friendly, and the most usable of any that I have ever used. I am currently moving all of my recipes into this app, and I am excited about all of the new features that Will continues to add as time goes on. Highly recommend it!.Version: 1.3.4
✓ Best recipe keeperEasily the best recipe keeper app I have ever used.Version: 1.1.5
✓ So easy to use - even hand writing is scanned 🙌🏻Pestle is the best recipe app I’ve seen- it’s so easy and has a great friendly vibe around it Highly recommend to keep all family recipes in it too 👍🏻.Version: 1.4.2
✓ Fantastic appThank you so much for creating such lovely app. I always wanted a simple app to organise my recipes 🧑🍳worth all the money 👍.Version: 1.5.5
✓ My new go-to recipe appI was a Paprika user but came across Pestle through a podcast and some on-line articles/reviews. I’m a convert! I love the look and feel of the app, the reminders integration is so much better than other competing apps and I overall just enjoy using Pestle more. Great work. Happy to support ongoing development with the reasonably-priced subscription..Version: 1.3.5
✓ The app I always wanted!!What a brilliant app! I was getting so sick of reading peoples entire life stories when all I wanted to do was read the recipe.. now I can! I love how it has step by step guide of the recipe too and that you can do it hands free! So happy this app exists!.Version: 1.0.5
✓ Great for new cooks!I love having my recipes in one place! As someone who has only recently started cooking more, this app helps me to correct my portions for my family and alter recipes to my taste. Love it!.Version: 1.0
✓ Life savingThis app is a godsend for me. I have asd and adhd and struggled to organise my eating habits and therefore just didn’t eat. I like how simple pestle is and how you can automatically paste in recipes from anywhere..Version: 1.6
✓ Best App EverI can highly recommend this app it’s brilliant. I have used Recipe Keeper for years however there was no way for family members to see the meal planner without sending a link to add to their calendar. Now all members can see what I see. Pestle is very user friendly, so do yourself a favor and don’t hesitate to go Pro. The only thing that would make this app even better is if it included a pantry so you could list what items you had in your cupboard and fridge. Which is why I gave 4 ⭐️ not 5.Version: 1.6.4
✓ Great appThis is a really well thought app. The only addition I would like to see is a shared meal plan for the family. At the moment one of us needs to share the recipe then manually add it to the day we are going to eat that meal. If it was synced this app would be pretty much perfect..Version: 1.0.9
✓ FantasticThe best recipe organizer!.Version: 1.6
✓ Simple but effective recipe appFor years I’ve been storing all my recipes in Evernote, but that’s become increasingly cumbersome as the app is gone bloatier and slower over time. For the past few months, I had been wishing for a simpler recipe oriented app to fill the void, when I happened upon Pestle. This app is great! It’s ability to extract ingredient lists and step-by-step instructions from most recipes on the web is like magic. Recipes are nicely laid out, easy to follow, and there are lots of nice extra features like a full screen step-by-step view, multiple timers, auto grocery lists, meal planning and more. The app is still young, so it has some rough edges and places, but not enough to get in the way of using it. It’s been great for me in the past couple weeks and it’s helping me to cook more often!.Version: 1.0.5
✓ Wow! This app is terrific!! I love it.I found this app accidentally and have really only used it for about a week. I read and collect recipes from so many places and the. Can’t remember where I found them. So this little beauty is pretty amazing - you find a recipe, hit a couple of buttons, and the recipe is saved neatly in a place where you can always find it. Without having to re-type anything, copy & paste it, or hunt around for it later. For an old lady like me, it’s great not having to remember where I saw the last great recipe I want to try..Version: 1.0.10
✓ Exceptional appI am always looking for new recipes and this app is the best for saving them in one place rather than sixty tabs in a browser. My only thought for improvement would be the ability to add cookbook pages in (by picture maybe) or the ability to plan a cookbook and page number in the calendar so I know what I said I would make last Sunday when it comes to a fridge full of ingredients and a missing sticky note. I love this app as it is though so these thoughts aren’t going to stop me using it. So good..Version: 1.0.5
✓ AmazingSuch an amazing app! works so so well and can’t wait to keep adding recipes!.Version: 1.0
✓ Great AppFor the price of this app I was weary to pull the trigger, but having used it for sometime now I’d say the price is worth the membership. The app has so many great features that it’s really hard to list them all. My favorite part of the app is the abundance of recipes that will expand your menu, and the directions can be controlled by voice commands so you can seamless cook while navigating through a recipe. Definitely worth a shot!.Version: 1.3.3
✓ Great appI have had this app since it was released but have not used it until today. Wow, I can’t believe how easy it is to add a recipe via URL and how great and well laid out the recipe is then presented. Beautiful app and I am looking forward to diving deeper into this app and I will definitely be using it on a regular basis. Great job Will!.Version: 1.1.3
✓ Excellent AppLove this app saves so much time..Version: 1.1.4
✓ The best out there!A gorgeous recipe managing and meal planning app! Really hoping that they add a pantry tracking function as that’s the only missing element for me at the moment. It would be good to know I’ve already got ingredients in the cupboard so I don’t rebut things I already have. Other than that I really can’t fault it, love that it syncs with my reminders!.Version: 1.3.6
✓ Amazing cookbook/meal prep/shopping list! This is the first app that has made me want to review it such a high rating. Everything about this is perfect, and I’ve already added and categorized so many of my recipes thanks to its easy document scanning and link sharing. It also handles my shopping list and syncs to reminders, and takes care of meal prep planning for me in an easy way! I absolutely love this app and everything about its intuitive design. Well worth the premium!.Version: 1.1.1
✓ Great App for keeping recipesAbsolutely love this app for keeping all my recipes. Its simple, minimalistic and does exactly what is claims to do. I immediately purchased the lifetime access while still an introduction offer. Worth every penny. I would have given this app 5 stars if not for a few issues. 1-not all recipes will import with a URL or while being shared to the app. 2-would love an import feature to allow me to import all my recipes from iOS notes. AI searching for ingredients and steps would be helpful..Version: 1.0.2
✓ PerfectSimple, beautiful app to manage recipes. So much easier than trawling through multiple websites to find the right recipe. The way the app transforms the ingredients/method in to a common format is very clever and works perfectly. Highly recommended!.Version: 1.5.5
✓ Great App to hold recipesA great app to easily create a digital recipe book only thing holding it back from a 5 star rating is the grocery list and that it lists the ingredients for each recipe separately and doesn’t amalgamate the ingredients to show total required. Overall with continued improvement in functionality a great app..Version: 1.4.11
✓ Goodbye Paprika.. all hail PestleAbsolutely amazing app, the integrations with reminders is flawless. The UI and add recipe functions are also both incredible. The integrated rss is also genius as a way to discover ingredients. I feel like I couldnt ask for anything more from a cooking app but given how perfect this app already is i might. Would it be possible to export nutrition data to shortcuts? Also it would be great if there was a way to seperate ingredients between different dish elements, without the header being understood as an ingredient..Version: 1.4.2
✓ Such an amazing idea!As a novice cook, this app makes cooking so easy and efficient!! No need for reading paragraphs of content before even finding the first ingredient. Definitely recommend this app, one of the best around and I commend the developer..Version: 1.0.2
✓ I can’t believe such a small team developed thisI originally downloaded this app so I could skip all the ads and bloat on a website with a recipe. But it’s such a good library to hold recipes. I have meal preps, dinners, scanned recipes from books, cocktails, etc. I also use it to share recipes with friends, easily create a shopping list from my recipes (so I don’t over spend), and it’s fairly easy to follow along the recipes. There are a few bugs here and there but nothing that hurts the experience too much! Shoutout to the team! If you read this review you should be able to put how many servings a meal is when creating or scanning a recipe!.Version: 1.4.2
✓ So useful and easy to use!I’m really liking this app so far. It’s been really easy to import most recipes. For the ones that haven’t imported, highlighting the different sections from the bookmark in the app has worked well. Being able to add to my shopping list and create meal plans is really useful. My only gripe, and it’s a big one, is the lack of Mac support. Having to Air Drop recipes to my phone or highlight from the phone instead of my computer where I generally find the recipes is pretty annoying. The app is so useful that I won’t take away a star for this. But Mac support, or even a web app, would really complete this app for me. Thanks for making this!.Version: 1.3.5
✓ Love this app. A few more improvements and it’s amazingI found this app recently. Fell in love. Added a ton of recipes I’ve had bookmarked, and in my notes app. I love that I can have them all in one place. I love how easy it is to follow recipes now without all the ads, and long article as to why people love this recipe. I have been at a few sites where sharing to this app wouldn’t translate at all and it was a mess. If that could get cleaned up that would make this even better. Also I’d love to see a desktop app of this. Are there any plans for that?.Version: 1.1.1
✓ Great app, even better supportI don’t cook enough to justify upgrading—I only have a few recipes—but Pestle is great for what little cooking I do. Very nicely designed, fits well with the OS, and works great. I emailed support when I had a problem transferring to a new iPhone, and I received a response from an actual human in *literally* one minute. Seven minutes after I emailed them, they had already fixed my issue on the backend, and I’m back to using Pestle!.Version: 1.3.3
✓ Great startGreat app so far. Wish you could sync the meal plan with a partner, and the ability to add meal plan/cookbook recipe ingredients to the shopping list was more clear..Version: 1.0.2
✓ Life Changing App for Busy CooksEverything finally in one place!!! No ads, no need to find the "jump to recipe" button - your favorite recipe is converted into step-by-step pages and can be scaled up or down as well as converted for units. So many other features that make make cooking a breeze! It took a while to set up, but has now changed my entire way of meal planning, shopping, and cooking — freeing up more time than I thought possible!.Version: 1.4.2
✓ Lovely AppLovely design, feels right at home on iOS. So lucky to have snagged a lifetime subscription, I’m currently using a Pinterest board to store my recipes and this is going to be a game changer. I’d love a way to remove the rating from a recipe or at least toggle their visibility in settings, not sure what use it provides…that being said would love to see a version make its way to macOS..Version: 1.0.2
✓ Honestly the best recipe manager out there!Fresh, modern & minimal layout. Very easy to add your own recipes. The perfect recipe display for when cooking! The best recipe manager out there - no doubt about it!.Version: 1.0.9
✓ Great but expensiveHi, This is a great app in development but I think £2 for a year is better. That is not because I want it cheaper but due to the fact it’s so widely used so there is no need for 18 POUNDS A YEAR for it Great app so far but please raise the free recipe limit to 20 Thanks UPDATE: I have been told that is at that price to keep it running and it would need more downloaders To have the price go down.Version: 1.4.11
✓ Fantastic so far - paid for future potentialDoes what I wanted for recipe keeping, simple, beautiful, effective. Family sharing works do if you buy, then others can have it in your family for free but… a few niggles that I’d love to see improved. 1. Family sharing works, but no obvious way to sync recipes between family ? Maybe future update ? We can share by messages 1 to each other but really want a family recipe book 2. Love that it remembers ingredients as a key tag - would be good to just show the amount on the start cooking recipe steps rather than having to click on each ? 3. I create a lot of dairy free recipes - so often online recipes are the basis not identical. Would be nice to be able to edit information that is stored when importing an online recipe but don’t have that granularity when writing your own. Eg - editing the name of the author. Eg makes 6 biscuits… (can only put serves 6 etc) 4. Love the idea of meal planner as we do this weekly, but again need to synchronise with my wife for this to work !.Version: 1.0.4
✓ Incredible Recipe Management app!I am very pleased with Pestle, and I use it all the time. I’m so impressed by it that I purchased the Pro lifetime subscription, it’s that good. An intuitive and beautiful interface that makes it easy to import recipes from the web, from a pdf or other document, or simply from scratch. It’s your own personal digital recipe book, complete with photos, scaling, and notes. Customer support for the app is excellent, I had a minor issue recently, and the developer answered my request and fixed the issue within 20 minutes - that’s outstanding! I highly recommend this app!.Version: 1.6
✓ Love itLove how you can add recipes from the Internet.Version: 1.3.5
✓ Amazing AppThis app is too perfect. You share it to the app and it shows only the important stuff like ingredients and the steps. No Ads. Free. Easy..Version: 1.4.11
✓ Unreal.I have loved cooking for a long time but always just had a recipe open on my phone or did it by memory. With this app I am able to write down my recipes with steps and ingredients list all in one place and be able to share it with friends so they can add it to their cookbook. On top of this the tagging system is an amazing feature for those days where you’re not sure what to cook so you can’t filter by ingredient and meal type. Alot of apps have these features but Pestle does it elegantly with an easy to use UI and incredible sharing features - I am definitely considering a lifetime membership as this is clearly a passion project with lots of thought and love to all home cooks out there! Please keep this app ad free and simple UI - it’s so simple and powerful does not need any more features!.Version: 1.0.10
✓ THIS APP IS A GAMECHANGER! 🤩🤩This app is so nicely made, with every feature having a practical use, and has no lag what so ever. And getting the recipes from the website to the app takes less than a 1 min! I highly suggest you get this app for having recipes but not having so much hassle. I got recommended from a tech YouTuber called “Mrwhosetheboss” by the way, from his video “The Best Apps of 2023!”..Version: 1.5.5
✓ Great appI collect a lot of recipes while searching the web. Up until this app was copying and pasting into notes. However now this app has made that process very simple. It is well worth the life time subscription fee just hope the come up with a way it get the hundreds of recipes in notes..Version: 1.6.2
✓ Love this app for storing favourite weeknight mealsI’m glad I found this app as it makes a really easy reference for me when I want to revisit those online recipes that are great for midweek meals. Just scrolling my collection helps jog my memory on ideas for dinners. Much easier to use this app to read the recipes as opposed to the annoying food blogs where they came from (with endless scrolling and text and pop up ads and videos). Great app!.Version: 1.2.4
✓ ExcellentThis app really is excellent.Version: 1.0.5
✓ Some measurements don’t import properlyIt’s a great app to use while cooking. However, when importing from a website into the app, 1 1/2 tsp salt may import into 5 tsp of salt. It happens once or twice for an ingredient, and to every recipe I’ve imported. I have to double check each ingredient on the app with the ingredients of the original recipe. It’s a minor annoyance. I still recommend the app however. It has so many great features..Version: 1.0.5
✓ Useful, easy to use, and beautifully designedPestle embodies all great characteristics of a good app. (1) it’s useful: by being able to bring together your messy folder of recipes from a dozen different sources, pestle allows users to access it all in one place, (2) easy to use: the UX design of this app is fabulous…it’s easy to navigate, not over complicated, and without any user frustration, (3) beautiful! Pestle is not only functional and accessible, it’s also aesthetic. The palettes are nicely chosen and well limited, the fonts read well and pleasantly, and the program pulls in the photos of the recipe for a beautiful catalogue of your imported recipes. As a media scholar, UX professional, and personal chef…kudos to Pestle! Worth downloading, and worth paying for full access (if you want to upload unlimited recipes)..Version: 1.1.4
✓ Great looking app, few issuesUI is better than Paprika’s. I’d doesn’t capture the SBS Food recipes correctly - even with the experimental parser. Also the Firefox browser is not supported. The grocery list does not support categories. And finally looks like there is no way to add additional photos (unlike Paprika)..Version: 1.3.6
✓ Brilliant AppVery easy to use, minimal but functional. Perfection..Version: 1.0.7
✓ AmazingIt’s rare I write app reviews, even more rare I pay for subscription, but this app is so brilliant I had to subscribe for the lifetime subscription. It really is so sleek and simple to add recipes and the integration with the iPad will be so useful. Amazing work guys!.Version: 1.0.3
✓ Great appPestle is a great app for manage and store recipes. It’s great it’s got a hands free mode that allows you to advance through steps of a recipe with touch your screen and making it dirty. There’s a handy shopping list feature for make a list of what you need to buy for your cooking session 😀. In summary it’s a well designed and thought out app..Version: 1.0.2
✓ The perfect recipe appI’ve tried all the popular recipe apps over the years and there’s always been one thing or another that has prevented me from sticking with it. Pestle takes care of all of them and then some. The cooking view is stellar, recipe parsing is nearly perfect, and the discovery view is extremely helpful when finding recipes. Not just this, but a huge part of it is how amazing the developer is. On more than one occasion they have responded to inquiries in less than a day, and helped resolve issues extremely quickly. If there were any improvements I could suggest, it would simply be a Mac version, as well as the ability to open and tab through more than one recipe at a time (as I’m often switching between making a side and main). But even without those, this is an amazing app..Version: 1.5.5
✓ Good Recipe App but needs integration to Grocery Stores and InstacartFirst this app is beautiful and the UI is quite nice. The recipe import function works well. Really, the only significant feature missing is the ability to automatically export or send grocery list(s) to grocery stores or Instacart for grocery item order fulfillment. Other apps already have this functionality. The is the only feature missing that would cause me to delete all of the other apps and use this one as my only food recipe management application. Note: To support the developer, I am a yearly pro user.Version: 1.4.11
✓ Download it NOWMy husband got this app for me and I thought “oh no another recipe app”, but it’s a dream! A couple years ago I was frustrated with Pinterest taking me back to the webpage so I stoped using it. I would just bookmark a recipe page. Once I started using this app, saving the link in Pestle…wow what a time saver. It gets rid of all the junk I don’t want to see, formats it nicely and makes it very lovely to look at. There have been great updates and it is very easy to use. Download it and try it! Bliss!.Version: 1.2.8
✓ Not impressed with the updateDespite having an annual subscription ALL my stored recipes disappeared… that’s hundreds of recipes. Maybe there’s a way of getting them back?.Version: 1.6.4
✓ IncredibleI’ve been waiting for an app like this a long time. Others have added similar features for reading recipes from websites, but this works much better (80% success rate for me). The meal planner feature and integration with Reminders just lead to a great all round experience. Sure, there’s a few rough edges (scroll performance, not being able to add spaces to manually added ingredients), but the strength of the rest of the app make this very forgivable and it’s only an early version anyway. Well done, really excellent job! A couple requests: - If a recipe can’t be imported I’d love to be able to just add it anyway and view the website (like Pocket). This would let me store 100% of my recipes in the app. - It’d also be great to share with my partner and view recipes she’s added in the Discover feed..Version: 1.0.2
✓ Just amazingEverything you need, made easy. Clever design and utterly seamless - all while looking beautiful.Version: 1.0.4
✓ The BEST!!!I’ve been waiting for a recipe app like this for such a long time! I showed it to all my family members and they were amazed at how quick it added recipes from the internet and how easy it is to scale serving sizes. It has everything I need in a recipe app and as a graphic designer, I must say the app’s UX and UI are both beautiful. I really hope this app is supported for a long, long time..Version: 1.2
✓ Use every day!Really enjoy the app. Tried several major players and moved completely to Pestle. Excellent support for auto importing on iPhone or iPad and seamless integration. Perfect for planning and doing. Two suggestions: Would really like improved timer feature. Would be good to have timer counting down in the top of screen (and continuing to count “down” negatively when it goes over) and MUCH more robust alarming when it goes off. It is much too subtle now. For timing I still use my OXO. Also, would like a way to automatically, or at least efficiently, delete duplicate recipes that I imported. Not talking about a program bug, just mistakes where I imported some things twice. (Just like Contacts or Photos, but don’t need much sophistication like comparisons.) Again, really enjoy the app..Version: 1.4.3
✓ Life Changing Cookbook AppBeing able to easily find and use the recipes I find online makes cooking 10x more enjoyable. For the first time in my life I have a working cookbook that I’m proud of. My favorite part is how quickly, easily and beautifully the app imports recipes from blogs. I highly recommend this app to anyone that enjoys cooking recipes they find online and are looking to be more organized..Version: 1.6.4
✓ Very helpfulSo far the app has proven to be very useful. The recipe extraction of flawless so far. I have started a new home bar as a personal project and cocktail & drink recipe collection has been a breeze. Mixing the drinks with the "cook function” allows for simple mixing. The meal planning area has also been getting a lot of use. It has helped with this goal tremendously. Definitely give it a try. You won’t regret it..Version: 1.3.6
✓ Incredible app, incredible developer.Love love LOVE this app. It goes beyond for so many reasons that others have already mentioned. However, the most important to me: I was experiencing a bug where adding, moving, or deleting a recipe from the meal plan would cause a crash. I wrote to the developer via the support ticket setup in the Pestle settings. Next update (which came a day or two later) the crashing issue was corrected and no longer occurs! The developer also fields questions and design suggestions on Reddit. Love how open this dev is to user input! Please keep up the incredible work!.Version: 1.3.3
✓ Game changerI used to just fill up my Home Screen with recipe links. This is waaay better. I love the function to reduce/increase serving amounts & create shopping lists. Still a little glitchy depending on the website. So that’s why it only gets 4 stars for now..Version: 1.4.1
✓ Declutters the recipes from websites beautifullyI found a couple sites that didn’t allow it, but now the majority work beautifully. you don’t have to read all the fluff and advertising on the web page and you get a clear and concise recipe. The converting and scaling works great too! The grocery list integrates with Reminders app, which is where I always keep my shopping list. I plan to use the meal plan feature soon and then being able to create my grocery list from that will be very convenient. Overall loving this app (I tried out several before settling on this one). Thank you!.Version: 1.5.5
✓ Just one thing missing…Support for Apple Silicon Macs..Version: 1.6.4
✓ Excellent AppHere’s what I love: - ad free recipes saved from anywhere I’m browsing along - step by step instructions, while cooking with voice activated progression - so great! - easy grocery list creation - easy to customize and edit recipes - keeps track of where recipes come from so I can discover new recipes from those same sites! Super smart. - able to easily share recipes with others Here’s what I wish it had: A better way to browse my recipes visually. The photos are kind of small and have words over them so can’t see them. Everyone knows you eat with your eyes first. So, with a few more ways to browse visually with bigger images, this app would be perfect!.Version: 1.4.7
✓ AmazingHands down the best app I’ve ever owned. Was more than happy to pay the money for the lifetime subscription. Having all my online recipes in one place and the ability to edit or write my own recipes into it is a game changer. Also, having the ability to share my recipe book with family members and scaling recipes as required is a massive plus point. Highly recommend this app to anyone who likes to cook.Version: 1.4.3
✓ Great app. Great functionality. Some jank.Great for my cooking workflow. There is some glitchiness when moving steps between step sections but great app overall..Version: 1.1.4
✓ Amazing App!Could not recommend this app enough! So user friendly and fun to use. I usually hate cooking but with Pestle it is very easy!.Version: 1.0
✓ Amazing appSeriously wish I could find more apps like this — takes the annoying and makes into the super practical..Version: 1.0.7
✓ Perfect cooking appSo easy to use - encourages me to cook for my family and their partners..Version: 1.3.2
✓ Great app, exceptional customer serviceThis app is a great way to organize recipes and the customer service is the best I have experienced..Version: 1.3.6
✓ Great app!Love this app. Really makes recipes easy to read and save. It’s a great way to pull in recipes from sites and turn them into step by step instructions. Couldn’t be happier to buy it!.Version: 1.0.4
✓ Needs a Mac AppWhen iPad apps can be ported to MacOs so easily this is a major gap. Migrating to this app is super awkward on the iPad.Version: 1.4.11
✓ Best personal cookbook everSo, why use a cooking app like Pestle? Because it gives you the chance to build the only cookbook in the world that exactly reflects your tastes in what you like to cook, and eat. No other cookbook can be designed just for you. But why Pestle in particular? Because it is the best in giving you a vast range of recipe sources to work from. Yes, Pestle is great at finding internet recipes, distilling the presentations down to just the information you want, and copying that to recipe formats that are easy to organize, find, and are an actual pleasure to cook with, down to easy turning of the recipe pages hands-free with just your voice. But, believe it or not, cooking existed even before the internet, and people like me built their cuisines with paper cookbooks, magazine recipes, shared handwritten recipe cards, or by cooking together and explaining as we went. By the time the internet came along, I had 70-ish well-thumbed cookbooks, complete with page markers for favourite recipes, magazine/newspaper recipe cutouts in cooking scrapbooks, and hand-written recipes shared as precious heirlooms from family and friends. I mainly relied on memory to find what I wanted, but the finding sometimes took a while. Pestle is the only cooking app I have found that allows me to automatically digitize and preserve any recipe I want in all these analog “historical” formats, and then find the recipes instantly. That’s a big deal! And not only can I find these recipes, I can share them. Pestle has more ways to share recipes than any of the many apps I’ve seen, and used. Household sharing of whole cookbooks, for example, is I think unique. And sharing is a huge part of my cooking culture. I’ve been using digital cooking apps for quite a while. My early-on favourite is now abandonware, a well-mourned app called Basil. Basil, with about 280 of my recipes, still works even on the most recent iOS version or the version running on the iPad 2 I bought back in March of 2011 — and which still does recipe and video-playing duty mounted on a cabinet in my kitchen — but I clearly am in Basil’s (and that iPad’s) last days and have to move selected recipes to a new home. That home is Pestle. Because Basil stored links to original internet recipes, and most of these still work, in many cases I just go to source and download a copy to Pestle. In cases where internet recipe links are broken or with recipes I had transcribed by hand, I can print to paper and then scan back into Pestle to create a modern digital copy. I wouldn’t mind a way to avoid the printing part of this method, but it works and makes Pestle a fine archival resource. And all of this makes my personal cookbook on Pestle the best cookbook I’ve found for cooking my way. Looking forward to using it for years to come..Version: 1.2.4
✓ Excellent concept- a few more features neededExcellent concept and some really time saving features present. It would be good to have a references/sources section and allow multiple sources/URLs. I’m using OneNote for recipes currently and would switch over if I could cite multiple sources per recipe. I often will start with a source and customize over time. Also would be great to add ability to track every time you use a recipe with associated notes (again- what I manually do in OneNote)..Version: 1.0.10
✓ RevolutionaryI cook a lot of new recipes that I find on the internet. It drives me crazy how many recipe sites and food blogs and nearly unreadable because of all the ads… Pestle let’s me bypass that and I love it. You just go to a recipe in safari, and share it to pestle. You get everything you need from the webpage, without any of the annoying nonsense..Version: 1.3.6
✓ Marvellous executionA really well executed app, thanks for building.Version: 1.0.7
✓ Missing one thing I would likeI don’t even cook but someday I might! I would love the ability to import my own recipes, from an email, photo, notes or a PDF. If there is a way to do that right now, I don’t see it, but I hope it gets added in the future. After reading the reviews & developer’s responses, I gladly paid $5 for the lifetime subscription. What a deal! (Hopefully I won’t end up regretting that, like a calendar app which I “supposedly” purchased for life… 😡). The developer’s replies were all pleasant & helpful, unlike many others that I read on some other apps. For that reason alone, I wanted to support him! I also sent a link to friends, so maybe they’ll purchase it too. Just a little bit of “nice” goes a really long way in the world today! 👩🏻🍳.Version: 1.0.4
✓ Great functionality and UII’ve been using another, stagnant recipients app for a while so I was delighted to see that Will had created this app. I’ve used it a few times now for imports and it’s great. I’m looking to import from my other app soon. I’ve just bought the pro features. Great job. Well done..Version: 1.2.4
✓ PerfectI finally feel like I am on top of my weekly food planning. An amazing app..Version: 1.0.7
✓ Great and highly useful!I don’t normally bother to review apps, but this one fully deserves kudos. I use Safari ‘Read Later’ to store my favorite recipes, then manually input shopping items into my Reminders app. This changes and vastly improves all of that! I now have most if my recipes imported, I can add to my shopping list in a couple of clicks, and now I can meal plan too. This is a huge time saver for me. I have yet to even cook with it, but in testing it also looks to be a huge win with the hands-free option enabled. Do not hesitate to support this developer, especially if you can get in on the lifetime sub special! Thank you for this app..Version: 1.0.2
✓ Great appPestle really is a great app that makes cooking so much easier!.Version: 1.4.11
✓ Awesome appSigned in again and my recipes all came back. Thank you dev for the great support!.Version: 1.6.5
✓ FabulousI was a long time user of Paprika but I gave this a try and I’ve not regretted it. The interface is clean and user friendly and the ability to import recipes from Safari and from NYT Cooking is amazing..Version: 1.3.6
✓ Great! A few bugsGoing to chime in here and say this is so much better than what’s out there for iOS recipe apps, you really nailed it. This app is very functional and well designed. I only wish for some bugs to be resolved within the categories and folders. Otherwise perfection! Thanks for the great work!.Version: 1.4.8
✓ Good but not perfectThis app is really good so far. Saving a recipe if it's online works really well and it's auto sorted into folders. Scaling and converting recipe works well and I love how you can click ingredients in the start cooking feature to see how much you need. However "If it's online" is where a problem shows up. Adding a recipe via an image or the scan feature just does not work. You can forget about it if it's on multiple pages and even if it's on a single page it did not transfer well. It's better if you manually enter recipe or find it online. It's a good app, but I can't give it 5 stars until he fixes this. I hope it's a priority because for new users adding their recipe collection will be a nightmare..Version: 1.5.5
✓ I do not often find paid app features worth it, but pestle 100% is worth every pennyI don’t buy many apps, because I often find myself using them briefly then forgetting them in the shuffle. When I say I use Pestle daily, I mean it. This definitely the best cooking app ever, but also one of the best apps I have period. The developer is great (and lightning fast for support) and the app is clean, useable and handy. If you like keeping track of favorite recipes, this here is the one. Just download it, you won’t be disappointed..Version: 1.6.5
✓ Exactly what I was looking forCannot believe it. This is the recipe app I’ve been looking for my entire life. Well done for nailing it so well. Happy to pay lifetime subscription..Version: 1.0.2
✓ Great App, But a Bit BuggyThis app is great in so many ways, but unfortunately it has some bugs with the meal plan days and syncing with your calendar. I have attempted 3 times to correct it, but when I close out the app and reopen, it will incorrectly sync the meal plan days off by one day, within the app and on my calendar. I thought it was me, so I went into the app noticed the meals planned had been shifted one day forward, so I went and set them back one day before to the correct days. Close out the app and reopen, the days are correct from within the app but when I go to my calendar, it resynced the days to be one day off/forward. To the point this has become a nuisance. As much as I enjoyed my Chicken Katsu, I do not want to be eating it every day. 😂.Version: 1.3.5
✓ Big hitFantastic app to store recipes.Version: 1.0.6
✓ Essential appCompletely changed the way I organise my recipes, and the meal planning functionality makes the pro version worth it alone. An absolute breeze to import and organise recipes from all over the place and the cooking UI is simple and well thought out!.Version: 1.3.5
✓ Love this app. :DThis app saves me so much time. I greatly appreciate the way it efficiently grabs recipes from websites and leaves the excess behind. I’m also a big fan of the Dynamic Island integration. Besides that, another feature I love is the ability to create an account, which lets me seamlessly keep my recipes on different devices. There’s so many apps that aim to make life easier but end up more often than not making things more complicated— this is one of the apps that actually helps..Version: 1.5.5
✓ Excellent app!Great app, love the features, functionality and UX/UI. Highly recommend checking out..Version: 1.5.5
✓ Simple, easy to use but needs better gallery designThe app is very simple and easy to add recipes from websites which is just what I wanted. I just wish the gallery view of recipes was easier to see the photo and title - would be better if the text didn’t overlay the photo. I suggest 2 columns of square recipe photos with the name underneath/on top..Version: 1.4.11
✓ THIS IS GREAT!I wanted to make a Quiche and this app suggested other things that I like and should make. Simple, easy, good, fun..Version: 1.0.1
✓ This app is greatHey! I love the app. There are only two little things that bug me. First, I’d love to be able to copy and paste a photo as the cover when importing a recipe instead of having to download the photo on my phone every time. Also, it would be great to have the possibility to filter the ingredient list shown in the meal plan tab. When making my shopping list, I don’t want to see the ingredients needed for previous recipes. Right now, I have to delete the past recipes from my meal plan even though I’d love to keep them to get a history of what I’ve made. Otherwise, this app is awesome. I would recommend it to anyone. 🙂.Version: 1.4.11
✓ Initial impression- need to improve categoriesI’m new to this app and am at the stage of trying to get my cookbook in order. Hoping this will be the solution I need to get my recipes all in one place and make meal planning easier! My main complaint so far is the categories. Would really love to be able to customize those, but at the very least, it would be nice if the categories made sense. Why is there both “Main” and “Main Course” but not one for “Soup”??.Version: 1.6.4
✓ Love the app, but…The search functionality doesn’t work very well. I have dozens of recipes saved with “Salmon” in the recipe title but searching for “salmon” brings up so many recipes that don’t even have it as an ingredient. I wish search worked a little bit more intuitively..Version: 1.4.7
✓ Great app with awesome developer supportI’ve searched through a ton of cooking apps to find one that has a really good “cooking mode” for iPad/iPhone and this is it. This app has all the features of other apps and then some. There are a few kinks with some of the newer features but I sent them in and got quick response from the developer (even though I probably annoy them by now). All in all great experience. My only wish would be for an Apple Watch app that could hold grocery lists and sync timers. Maybe even show the current step in cook mode? Regardless, the app as it is now is awesome. Keep up the good work!.Version: 1.2.8
✓ Amazing!Absolutely love this app! Finding recipes has never been made easier and as someone who usually scales up my cooks for larger crowds the inbuilt function saves so much time and effort..Version: 1.1.5
✓ PestlePretty good app helpful for meal planning.Version: 1.5.5
✓ Love it!!I love that I can do everything in one place with this app. Save my favorite recipes from any website, meal plan, and find new recipes. It seriously makes following recipes so much easier. Instead of scrolling through paragraphs of texts and then having to scroll up and down from ingredients to directions, it simplifies everything into steps. No more flour and sauce on my phone screen lol. Give it a try, you’ll be happy you did!.Version: 1.0
✓ AmazingI use it everyday.Version: 1.4.11
✓ Best recipe app out thereHands down, best recipe app there is! I’ve tried so many and I’m extremely glad I found this. UI is super easy to navigate and everything flows are logical. Can’t wait to see how it’s further improved..Version: 1.4.2
✓ Great but could have a couple of improvementsI love it, I’m a serial recipe collector so its fantastic for that. I do wish the shopping list was a little better, it’s handy for a small or one meal shop but it doesnt batch the same items together or sort them like other apps do. It’s still brilliant and would recommend. Also there’s an option to purchase pro for life, I wish more apps did this instead of monthly fees. Would be AMAZING if it synced with other apps (like my fitness pal) but obviously that’s quite a big ask.Version: 1.6.2
✓ Love it! But needs a little fixing.I have tried other apps after using this, and I personally think this is thee best recipe app I have come across. I love it so much I am considering buying lifetime PRO. Though, I am finding it to be a little buggy. e.g. (It’s very hard for me to explain so please bear with me..) 1. Writing new recipes from scratch; adding a new ingredient will duplicate the last ingredient you entered, then after clearing it, writing the next ingredient and moving it up the list, the ingredient that it duplicated will clear? making you have to write it again.. 2. When opening a recipe; (this only happens once in a while) all instructions will only show the first line. You have to either go out of the recipe and back in, or restart the app to see the full recipe. 3. When editing a recipe; (again once in a while) once saved it will still show the old edit. Again you have to either go out of the recipe and back in, or restart the app to see it edited. I also have a suggestion. The folders you create aren’t in alphabetical order, nor can you change the order you prefer them to be in. I would love if we could do this. They are always randomly changing order. Also if the way you view the list of recipes could be changed to your preference. e.g. tiled view (currently on my phone, I can see 4 recipes, making it tiled view I will see maybe 8 (2x4) Still the best recipe app ever!….Version: 1.3.5
✓ The app I’ve always wanted, but didn’t realiseThis app is a god send. Previously my method for storing web recipes was just to leave the tab open or heaven forbid, just remember what site I was on when I need it again. That method generally fails. The Pestle converting measurements and scaling functionality is great and the step by step and timers are the icing on the cake. Which is exactly what I’m about to do…make a cake!.Version: 1.0
✓ Metric miraclesWow, an App that isn’t aimed at the one country in the world (USA) that uses imperial measurements. Shock. And, has great auto-convert of units to/from metric. Wow. Thanks. Buying lifetime A$7.99 use cost less than a bubble tea 🧋 #winning.Version: 1.0.4
✓ The recipe app we all needThis app does exactly what you need. Replies that you like all in one place. Easy to use and very clear. Just great.Version: 1.0.2
✓ Best recipe saving appThis is the best app I’ve found to replace my old way of recording and saving recipes by importing via a website, scanning old cookbooks via your camera or just typing it out manually. I hope it lasts a lifetime. Kudos to all the hard work Will put into this app!.Version: 1.3.6
😕 Pestle: Recipe Organizer Negative Reviews
