✓ Be prepared to spend money! Scam?It starts off easy, then gets so hard you need hints. Hints are expensive, or you can watch very annoying ads to earn part of a hint. Every puzzle you complete you earn 1/5 of a hint. Oh - and you use up two hints each time, one for the piece and one for the place. Thus this app had so much potential- but the developers got greedy. I would gladly pay for this app, but not pay for hints! The level of the puzzles should be adjustable to the player, not super grandmaster levels. Annoyed and disappointed..Version: 0.23.3
✓ Would be 5, but..The ads on the free version are overwhelming, so unless you are prepared to waste lots of time watching useless ads then upgrade is the only option. I think the cost is reasonable as the puzzles are very good. But even after upgrading there are on screen nags which are continuously trying to attract your attention. I find these very distracting and impact my ability to concentrate on solving the puzzle. The only reason I’m writing this review is that I’m being constantly nagged for feedback, so I’m giving in so that I can once again focus on the puzzles. To the developer, please remove the animation on the buttons, they are ruining the game.Version: 0.22.0
✓ Fun game, good concept, butI downloaded this game not too long ago and ive had a lot of fun i love the concept of having a game like this for free, but, there is one thing in particular about this game that really bugs me, the ads, the amount of ads on this is just ridiculous, especially if you get a level that you complete fast, i mean you get ads after basically every single level and it is very frustrating. i kind of understand why there would be maybe an ad after every level considering that some levels may take a while to complete, which would make sense to make an ad afterwards to make up for the playing time of said level, but i just dont think its necessary. and i also think coins should be able to actually purchase things in game like different boards, backgrounds, pieces, etc. instead of just hints..Version: 0.22.0

✓ Great aesthetic, Terrible money grabbingLook, I get it, ads are a core part of the game’s monetization. I get it, buying hints with the coin system is what makes money. But an ad every one or two puzzles? That’s just insane greediness. It takes me longer to watch an ad than to do a puzzle. You’re basically turning me into an ad-watching machine, and I do enough of that everywhere else, so respectfully, I’m uninstalling this piece of crap. Sure, the aesthetic is extremely well-polished, but the level of money grabbing and scammy tactics instantly makes me lose faith in the developer..Version: 0.22.0

For example, puzzle 64 after you move the Knight to be bottom left, the King moves 1 space to the left, allowing us to check mate him. I paid for the ad-free version for myself and for a child but even with in-app purchases turned off this still doesn’t remove access to the Shop. For example, a recent mate-in-two puzzle required me to blunder a white rook on a square where it would, under any normal circumstance, be taken by a non-pinned black bishop. But instead of that move, black king takes rook, setting up mate in one. Because this a move that no player (or AI , for that matter) should ever play, it is nearly impossible for the puzzle solver to foresee. ✓ Too many adverts & false checkmatesIn the early levels (all I’ve done) there is some pretty obvious false check mates where it could be blocked, and it seems pretty inconsistent on each level in which the ai moves.Version: 0.22.0
✓ A freemium app in premium apps clothingSeemed like a chess tactics app with good graphics and a nice interface. I was happy to pay $5 to get rid of ads, only to realize that the entire game basically runs on a hint system that either costs you more money or… makes you watch ads. You have to complete each puzzle before going to the next one, so if you’re stuck at all, it’s ad time again. There’s day-specific puzzles and multi-puzzle time-based “events” but those usually only give you more hint currency if you get to the very end, and since solutions to those cannot easily be found online as they can for the standard levels (at least the earlier ones), you’re stuck without answers or compensation unless you can solve everything, or pay for hints. Ultimately, chess should be about learning. It’s fun when it’s turned into mini games like this but it’s annoying when progress and knowledge is locked behind micro-transactions. Given how many similar (but better) apps there are right now, there’s basically no justification for this apps popularity or high rating. I guess a polished aesthetic counts for a lot to people. My recommended alternative is Chess Tactics Pro, but there’s many other options..Version: 0.22.0

Gone are the days of chess in my pocket… for what’s a pocket if not used in many pocket ways. Instead, we spare the room for the hand or maybe just a cradle for a wallet meant to be used across the land. ✓ Nice game spoiled by advertsI appreciate that adverts are an unfortunate necessity if the developer is to make money and I do play many puzzle apps and live with the inevitable adverts. So I was fully expecting adverts with this game but wasn’t prepared with just how many there are. The game plays reasonably for the first few puzzles lulling you into thinking that the adverts are going to be tolerable but reach a certain number of games (I wasn’t counting but I would guess around ten) and then the deluge of advert starts. It then feels like you are watching continuous adverts interrupted by occasional short puzzles. I presume the idea is to get you hooked so that you might be prepared to pay the advert removal fee. And do you know, it almost worked with me - initially I simply deleted the app, but a day or so later I thought “actually it was quite a nice game I’ll check out the price to remove the adverts”, I imagined it would be £2 or so and I was ready to pay that, but it’s £4.49 which I feel is too much. So I walked away from what is probably a pretty nice application under the covers. Shame the adverts are too excessive and the price to remove them too high..Version: 0.21.0

✓ Feeling ripped offI own an iPad and an iPhone amongst many other Apple products. I generally like to play puzzles and games on either/both iPhone/iPad interchanging from time to time. I downloaded this game on both my iPhone and iPad. I went on to buy the Super Bundle for this game on my iPad. It cost $39.99. All indications was it was the best option. I then discovered the Bundle only shows up on my iPad . I was not warned this would happen. This means if I want the same benefit on the iPhone version of the game I need to pay another $39.99. For such an expensive Bundle I am disappointed. I contacted the developer and they indicated they don’t have control over this aspect. Apple said my reasoning didn’t qualify for a refund. I therefore cannot give a positive review. I simply cannot recommend this game. Pretty format. A bit rich. Be warned. Feeling a little ripped off as I need to spend twice as much money to have the same experience on both iPhone and iPad. User satisfaction is relatively low for this game..Version: 0.22.0
✓ Good gameDon’t get me wrong it was fun for about 25-30 levels. Pros good graphics, good difficulty (at first) and different from most. But the cons!! So many ads it’s ridiculous. once you get past level 30 it’s like there trying to find grand masters because they start to base the levels off of you need to get a hint, that’s leads into watch ads being 75 coins yet the hint is 100 coins. Then even if you watch the ads the hint it only tells you what peace to move not what move to do. I get it needs to be challenging but it took maybe 15 minutes to get there and I got stuck. If your looking for a quick game to play because your bored just move on to the next game but if your a great player and I mean great player at chest give this game a try because I believe it will stump even grand masters..Version: 0.22.0

And sometimes the computer has a scripted move which is a blunder. If a puzzle only works if the enemy blunders then it makes it less fun. This is, though, an interesting way of getting checkmate in 2 or 4 moves and helps to think ahead the moves and why it may or may not work. Would like to see these situations on the full board vs the compact field. Each situation only shows the few pieces to get checkmate, but is that all the pieces? This scenario only shows the pieces that are needed, but when viewing the full board with other pieces, it’s also figured in the best moves to make, some bad, some good, but it all figures in the moves available..Version: 0.22.0

✓ Pretty goodI love puzzles for chess, and this app makes some great ones. But, I think the levels need to increase in difficulty more quickly, and some feel out of order (easier puzzles are ahead of much harder ones). Also, they need to change it so that you can return to previous puzzles and see how you solved them, or else what’s the point of solving 200 or so puzzles without being able to enjoy the satisfaction of watching how you beat a previous puzzle? In App Store, top left said mate in two. It’s a mate in one. I wasted time trying to figure out format knowing there was an error, but what was it???? Then I gave up- do I loaded app- ad ad ad ad So I paid, again now paid twice plus wasted time. I whizzed through first 60 ish puzzles then wrote this if they refund double payment and fix top left to be mate in one, saving others from assuming the format is simple. However if you move differently then you cannot win. To the developers, please have a look at level 64, why does the king expose itself if and only if I move the knight to the bottom left. ✓ Stalemate…..First off, after reaching around level 20, I started to get an ad after every level, so get ready to skip a lot of ads or pay $4.99 to remove ads. Also there was a level that I figured out 3 different checkmates, but the game kept saying stalemate. I sat here checking the moves and the king had nowhere to go, but the game said stalemate. Then I figured out the way, the game wanted me to solve the puzzle. So you may find another way to solve the puzzle, but if the game devs didn’t think of that way, then you will get a stalemate..Version: 0.22.0
