✓ Great game ruined by greedinessThis is great game, cool storyline, beautiful music but there’s some fatal flaws in the approach of the developers. -1star: The overall stinginess of developer. The amount of Ruby they give and gain from quest is very low compared to other square enix games. -1star: influence awards (Rubys) gets greatly reduced after level 10(yeah which is stupid) -1star: The recent event JP bravely collab has 100 pity fr each BD characters while we need 200. Also if u read carefully chance fir Adelle on last step is only 15% while JP is 50% fr Adelle. Honestly EN players should be worried abt this behaviour as it is borderline predatory compared to JP. Also JP player got free Agnes and free pulls and got 10x7 count down gem and 88x3 gem during BD collabs(total 334 gem) and 10 pull seal Meanwhile we only get 20 gem and 1 pull seal, Global totally shafted by SE(so short version is the Japanese players get treated better).Version: 1.2.00

✓ It’s great but….The game is great and for right now I’m hooked however, it seems very needy of a limit broken 4 star character or 5 star team. With some paid gems and all free gems up until flamesgrace, I have 8 5 stars characters but only 4 of them actually 5 star. Couple of them awakened which helps and all but it seems like it’s gonna take forever to max limit break them considering the amount of copies you need to pull for them. I’ve heard rumor that the limit break shards will also be used to unlock a special skill or something which is unfortunate but either way, it’s more than likely that you will need at least 1 copy of all your five stars in your party to be able to handle the end game. My 4 stars can hit hard but are incredibly squishy without their awakening and even then, it’s hard for some elite bosses at the end. Feel like 3 star characters are basically useless and the 5 star characters all get that bp+ in their last skill tree as well as triple and quadruple hit attacks in their skill set which really makes the caits doable in 3 turns if it doesn’t run second turn. With no front set of 5 stars with 3-4 hit skills, it seems like fat caits are gonna be impossible for anyone unlucky to have them. Atleast all I know is Madeline who has a 3 hit staff attack but that’s all I’ve seen so far..Version: 1.0.01

✓ Great Game? Yes. Money Grab? Yes.With tried and true retro graphics enhanced beautifully, OCTOPATH series always hits home. I understand that since this is free to play, they would like money from it… yet they don’t dance around the fact that a single 10-draw is $30… and that’s their new player discount price. I don’t see the need for 5* yet, but you have eight team slots. If we assume 5* drop at 1% and on average you get a 5* at 50 draws, that’s $1200 for a team of 5* and that doesn’t include limit breaks on them. So even though the game is beautiful, it’s a little insulting that the micro-transaction prices are that predatory and unreasonable. Gems are a little difficult to accumulate and don’t follow the typical “clear stage, get gems.” It’s a true adventure style game only marked by chapters, so I’ll update this if gems are impossible to get as F2P or if they drop in abundance later on..Version: 1.0.00

✓ DisappointingI played the console version which was great. Good gameplay and stories. This version is terrible. Standard character collection game with a Squeenix aesthetic slapped on. It wouldn’t be that bad if your starting assortment of characters weren’t horrible. I got two merchants, a woman warrior and a priest. Lame. ✓ REALLY slowSo about half an hour into playing the game I would say it was about 5 mins of game play because the other time was anything you click on has to wait about 10 seconds to load it up. It has paid summoning, would have rathered pay for the game so i dont have to do in-game purashes just to get a decent character And for some reason when after downloading everything for the game it needs to be connected to the servers so it is really slow at loading things in it. And last the gameplay its self is just a side scrolling game with final fantasy style combat I would not get this game, if it was a omnidirectional movment game i probably would have given this a 2 or 3 star.Version: 1.0.00
✓ Story: great, everything else: garbageThe story is fun and well done, and I enjoy the combat. But everything else is just garbage that drains the fun. Traveler side quests are too often identical ( male character must fight a beast to be a man and learn that asking for help is being an adult, female character wants a husband asap and picks a random guy for you to help them woo). The gacha is HORRIBLE, rates are so low that I’ve completed multiple stepups without getting event characters. And don’t expect to collect 5 star people either. I’m at 80+ days played and have FIVE and only one has even been awakened (because I’ve gotten that one three times in the guaranteed 5 star draw). Farming rubies for the gacha is miserable and slow, good luck even getting 300 in two weeks without playing like it’s your job. A daily free gacha like most games would help. Or easier free rubies to gather. Paid rubies are overpriced. 20 USD to do a 10 draw with the horrible rates I mentioned. Sorry y’all. Find a better game..Version: 1.3.00

And when it does, you get one scene that you’ll finish in less than an hour. The prices on the packs are outrageous to boot. It’s a beautiful game, but I would recommend Another Eden over this one. If you want to play this I would get it on console or wait at least a year. Also, whenever I sit through ads for the extra loot I have to flip the iPad to correct the orientation (which is very annoying), only to end up receiving a reward that’s too insignificant to warrant watching the ad in the first place..Version: 1.2.00

✓ Good single player RPG, terrible gacha.Love the story and gameplay, but the tacked-on gacha banners are extremely costly to pity, and the free in-game currency is super sparse, to where it would take way too long to guarantee a unit. Not only that, but they have an accelerated release schedule vs their Japanese counterpart (several months ahead, content-wise), so not only do you not get enough in-game currency to pull regularly as F2P, but so many banners create a heck of a lot of FOMO for those who like collecting units. On top of it all, prices for purchased (read: real $ spent) in-game currency is super pricey. If you love the og Octopath game, you’ll enjoy the story beats and the gameplay, but don’t expect to have enough earned in-game currency to pull very often, unless you’re ok with never guaranteeing anything or being willing to spend real money. Also, devs are slow to respond to community outcry, and just throw their (green aka unseasoned) Community Managers out to the angry mob and they simply clumsily and unclearly communicate information that often leave you asking more questions vs what they actually say in their answers. ✓ Get the console versionThe game looks great, and I really enjoy the graphics and 3D/2D environment. The combat system is intuitive, and there’s definitely a lot to do. But the biggest, most fun ruining issue I have with this game is: crashing. It crashes a LOT and more than a few times the game has crashed RIGHT AT THE END OF A LONG BOSS FIGHT I’ve been working on for a half hour. This is a game that takes real world currency, and I am really not inclined to spend money on a game that might literally spaz out and take my money, but then crash before rewards are rendered. It’s very annoying, and I’ve only put a few bucks into it, but the crashing issue makes me hesitant to spend a penny more. I’ve played without complaint since launch and never felt like I had to spend money, so this would have received 5 stars from me, but the most recent banner has included numerous changes from the JP release that just seem downright disrespectful. Lowering the drop rate for the featured character from 50% to 15% changing the banner to be paid diamonds only, and doubling the spark rate. ✓ Worst donation systemUnderstood that the game is from Switch. It is brought and not remake. Graphics is not too great. Gameplay is boring and skills performance is not appealing. Loading up is so slow. First 15 minutes walking in town, it kinda reminds me on FF Tactics. But the hype of the musics was not there even I use my bluetooth speaker. ✓ So far…I’ve played the original OCTOPATH Traveller, and I really enjoyed it. So when I heard this game was coming soon, I was really excited. Unfortunately, when I started playing, I was immediately disappointed. While It did include the same soundtrack that I loved, I was so upset that I didn’t get to choose the hero I want and it was on a fixed path unlike the original. That’s because, despite how enjoyable the game is, the devs are making it unplayable through sheer greed. No amount will ever be enough for them, if you don’t have thousands (yes, thousands. ✓ Greedy and disappointedAs a fan of OCTOPATH traveler 1, I was looking forward to this new mobile version. Unfortunately, they are making it real hard for people to spend money in this game due to the incredibly low rates of getting a character you want. They have in fact lowered the rate on their current banner to 15% where the same banner in Japan was 50%! Abysmal pricing/low odds. For the same amount of money of MAYBE getting 1 character, you could buy Octopath Traveler 1 and Octopath Traveler 2 instead which will have tons of characters that you don't have to pay to unlock but get with the game. The value is simply not here and it is truly a slap in the face to gamers to support these kind of ethics. Even as a Gatcha type game, Square Enix is truly "Masters of Wealth".
