✓ They won me overI normally hate any Gatcha game or free RPGs on cellphones, including a few other SE titles, but as a fan of OCTOPATH I wanted to give this one a try considering it isnt a multiplayer game at all this far. I havent felt the need to spend any cash on the game this far but probably will soon just to support the developers considering the hours I have dropped into this one. They added some features and changed a few others but being a cell game I knew there would have to be a few changes to the game. Exploring is fun, and with higher level monsters all over (and avoidable) you get a reason to go back to old areas. I do dislike that you need to be leveled to use some gear but I understand why they do it. I also dislike the speed at which leveling is done at later in the game. That being said, its not the worst thing in the world. The combat is fun, the cameos and history are nice and its a really great story. Some party members get a little annoying but I can deal with that by keeping them out of my party. Im looking forward to playing more! Overall a solid 9.5 out of ten..Version: 1.0.01
✓ Disrespects the fansAbsolutely love the game, it’s free, it’s octopath but with lots of improvements here and there. It’s new and well written and a single player game (thank god). Shame there is no English voice acting though, but still having a great time. However after guiding for Tressa over 50 times and not getting her, I’m left feeling deflated and like I want to stop playing. We can see that after Tressa it’ll be another old character and I’m not sure I could take not getting Therion. If you respect the fans you should be giving these characters as login bonuses, these should be ways of thanking us long term fans, and give us reason to come back. It’s a single player game! It doesn’t matter if we all have Tressa! You should be hoping for us to log in daily for 6 months so we can recreate the 8 travelers from the original, but you have showed through this that you are only interested in our money and not our loving devotion to your franchise. I’d have rather paid for the download and been given the characters than to have this in game premium currency. I won’t be spending a penny despite loving Octopath as a franchise..Version: 1.0.00
✓ A single player mobile game to rememberMy wife and I loved OCTOPATH on the Switch when it came out, so when I heard they were making a mobile game I was eager to see what it would be like. I have to say, I’m really enjoying their implementation so far. This is a gacha style game, but I don’t feel pressured to pay tons of money to try and get one of the god tier characters, granted I’m still in the early game, so many something may change later, but I’m perfectly happy to play with the characters I got from my free rolls. The game definitely feels like OCTOPATH still, which for me is a huge plus. I have two negative comments though to make: 1) The price for rubies (the premium currency in this game) is stupid high IMO. 2) While you can earn rubies by just playing the game they distinguish between free (earned rubies) and paid for rubies, which is super annoying because it mean some banners only accept paid for rubies even if you have enough free ones to roll on it. Lastly, I don’t know this for sure, but I can’t find anything about whether or not this game has a pity system on rolls/wishes, so keep that in mind if you choose to partake in the gacha..Version: 1.0.00

✓ Erhardt stans rise upThere is a lot of dialogue and lore! Which is great if you enjoyed the original Octopath Traveller as the game takes place a few years prior and features a lot of the characters. I wouldn’t recommend if you’re not interested in the story because there’s a lot of it and it’s unskippable. The loading times are kind of terrible though. I don’t think it’s a me problem cus I’ve heard similar complaints, I have good internet and plenty of storage but the wait times for loading even just basic menus are tedious. I’ve gotten used to it, but it’s still annoying. As for the gacha, I’ve had a good experience. I’m free to play and I’ve always been able to get the banner character in events. I’ve been playing for about a month and I have more than a full party of 5 stars! There’s also a feature where you get to build a little town. You don’t really get to customise it, but you do side quests to recruit all the villagers and you’ll be able to collect items from them every day. Overall, having a good time! Love finding out more about Orsterra! If everything loaded a little faster, it’d be perfect!.Version: 2.4.00
✓ Enjoyable game with poor monetizationOverall I have really enjoyed octopath cotc. The systems feel just as good as they did on console and the 8 person party system has been interesting. Unfortunately the monetization so far has been awful. I don’t mind spending money on games I enjoy but a 10 pull costs 30 dollars on a non step up banner and the bundles that have been offered so far carry very little value. This doesn’t damage the game but with the fact that you can pull a 5 or 4 star unit at one star below it’s max and pulling duplicates like in any Gacha game is a good thing, the decision to make ruby bundles over priced especially for limited time “value” packs seems a bit…. ✓ First time playing the seriesI have heard about OCTOPATH awhile back when it was for switch but then I heard about this and I was like “let’s give it a shot!” And I fell in love 🥰 I felt like I was playing a brand new snes game and the year was 1996; around the time ff6 and chrono trigger was released. That’s the kind of feeling I get from this game whenever I play it. The storyline is very well-done especially when you get play different heroes involving different scenarios. It offers a lot of quests and gameplay, almost seems never ending. Let’s not forget about the soundtrack, oh my god I can listen to Ember glow for days 🎶.Version: 1.0.01
✓ Great game on mobileI played the original OCTOPATH traveller and I think it’s transitioned very well to mobile. I appreciate all the details in the game and feel like the devs really care about the user experience. At first I thought it was going to be a cash grab but it’s a full fledged gaming experience that I’ve enjoyed very much so far. You don’t need to spend any money if you don’t want to. ✓ It’s Another Eden with an Octopath skinEverything about this game screams Another Eden (AE). If you like that game, you will like this one. I’ve played a lot of AE and the more I play this the more I’m reminded of AE. Pretty much everything about the game but the battle system and art style is taken straight from AE. And this is not a bad thing. AE is my favorite mobile game and I can see myself playing a lot of this game as well. The battle system seems simple at first but as you level up character jobs the switching mechanics become much more intricate and I’m really enjoying it. I will say that I have not yet felt the need or desire to spend money, but all of the best characters are locked behind the gacha. So if you want the best characters you will need to spend. If it’s anything like AE you can get through all the content without spending, but you will need to invest a significant amount of time into the game. This is not a log in and auto your dailies while watching a show kind of game. You have to actively play the game to progress. Some will like this and others won’t..Version: 1.0.00

✓ Wow!Everything I loved about the original OCTOPATH Traveler is here. The graphics are stellar, the gameplay is identical to its big brother, but with some quality of life enhancements. I’ve wanted Ocotpath in my pocket since it was released, and now I finally have a version that seems as robust as the original. Though I’m still relatively early in the game, the monetization seems unobtrusive from what I can tell. It is a gacha game, but it seems like they are generous with what they give you in the beginning. If you want to min/max all your characters, I can see running into a paywall, but there is so much game here for free that I’m tempted to buy something just to support the devs..Version: 1.0.01
✓ Love it but!I’ve always loved the OCTOPATH Traveler game on the switch and this is an amazing twist to it. I for one, appreciate the unique RPG game they made it. There is so much to do and the graphics are beautiful as before. The only thing I would have to complain about if I had to pick something would be, an option to toggle the mini map on/off. At times, the player wants to get into the game and the mini map is a big distraction for those kinds of players. It helps with engagement and will make it feel like a more genuine experience. My only feedback is that though you can move your save game from phone to tablet and vise versa, it requires you to login to your Square Enix account every time. This takes too much time. This process should be made seamless. So many other games allow you to pick up where you left off matter what device you are on. ✓ The model mobile JRPGOctopath Traveler is one of my favorite games of all time, and COTC has all the love it got. HD-2D graphics still look gorgeous on phones, and the music is amazing. Octopath’s gameplay is a winner, as always. It’s frankly crazy how they managed to maintain this level of depth on what is usually such a simple platform. The monetizations are also very subtle (only paid video ads, and rubies aren’t difficult to acquire). I had one nitpick, it would be that the menus are a wee bit slow with some loading times. At the end of the day, I grabbed Champions of the Continent because I needed more Octopath Traveler, and it scratches that itch magnificently..Version: 1.0.00
✓ Great gameThis is a very well structured RPG experience. On top of that there tons of content that only gets more challenging as you progress. I give it 4 stars only because you have to draw characters for awakening stones that enhance your characters and I’m not really a fan of making a core part of the game contingent on the gacha aspect of the game. This is somewhat remedied though by the game giving you a free gift of 10 rubies everyday, getting them as quest/arena rewards & the dev team giving out hefty numbers of rubies during events. Even still though you’ll find yourself hesitant to use them as you never know if the next draw event will have a better character. Despite all this you could play the game with whatever characters as they are all quite strong, so the rubies don’t have to be a make or break factor..Version: 2.0.00
✓ One damming problem…Unlike most Gacha JRPGs, your starting character is one of eight 5* characters. Who you get is based off random luck, different with each game started. It’s just a bit of an inconvenience in hindsight, but I really see no good reason for why it’s like this, unlike in the console game Octopath Traveler, where you could choose who your starting character is. I doubt this review will get any attention or that anything will change about the game, but the whole “random starting character” thing nearly turned me off from this game, though I did cave in and just rerolled till I got the character I wanted..Version: 1.0.00

✓ Great game! You should try it out!I downloaded this game mostly because I was bored with the ones I was already playing and I was quite shocked at how amazing this game is. I’m mostly play open world games, I don’t usually play pixelated games like this but when I downloaded and started ri play, it surprised me with how good the game is. The story line first is amazing! Especially when you have three story lines to choose from and can switch back and fourth, second the characters are well designed too. The fight scenes are easy and interesting, the graphics are amazing too and plus you have many towns to go too and side quests you can do. For now since I’m still new to the game I havnt seen any bugs or glitches, and it saves everything automatically too! ✓ Great Story and Battle SystemI have to say I’m very impressed so far! I just completed the first chapter and loved the three story arks. The story is dark and geared towards older audiences. The battle system is great and actually requires team builds and strategy. It has a shield system that requires you to break the enemy’s shield to do maximum damage. This is done by hitting their weaknesses. It can be weapon or spell based. You can also save up battle points and then use them to increase the effectiveness of spells and abilities. Very in depth like the original on Switch. Now for the gatcha, the resource flow is slow but if active allows for a guaranteed 600ish a month. That’s two ten pulls. That said you can get more through in game rewards for just playing like killing enemies, side stories, etc. This game is completely PVE no PVP so there is no pressure to pull. You can build great teams with just 4 stars characters. The game has a lot of Another Eden systems in place so if you liked that you will love this game. I highly recommend!.Version: 1.0.00

Thought there was a couple of bad guy I just couldn’t beat maybe after grinding there’s a harder challenge? Seems to be so to me at least. ✓ Disappointed reallyIts really good so far, but PLEASE, make it so you can you use a joystick to move around instead of the whole flicking thing. The flicking takes away the whole exploration part of the game, which is sad, because you have such beautiful environments, but you can only explore limited areas. Its also really hard to navigate the terrain as well because if you don’t stop in time, you go too far and it’s really just annoying. It’s really disappointing because I absolutely LOVED the first game and was excited to play this. ✓ Honest ReviewThis is my first Octopath game and so far… I’m really digging it. I’ve always had interest in this series and have played many SQEX games so this type of genre was easy to fit into. Each Individual Character feels unique, they’ve got they’re own VA, own skillsets and it really works out well with how much diversity the gameplay is. However!! Although I’m enjoying the game my only complaints is that there isn’t a “SKIP” or “AUTO” dialogue implemented into the game. I really do appreciate the work put into the VAs and Story but this is the first SQEX game I’ve played without these option, and the fact that this ALSO gacha game makes it so i wish i could “SKIP/AUTO” dialogue so that i could save myself some time. The only time you CAN skip is if your are viewing memoirs or if you’ve gone through the cutscene already. The game is really time consuming and adding these functions would really make my experience a whole lot better. That being said the gacha part… well its gacha, a whole lot of rng. One of the best thing about most SQEX Gacha I’ve played so far is the step-up banners. No other gacha I’ve played has that. 9/10 for me so far until skip/auto dialogue is added 🙂.Version: 1.0.01
✓ Essential for your Game LibraryI don’t remember how I heard about it, but after trying the original Octopath Traveler, i was surprised by how much I enjoyed the classic-but-updated JRPG. I’m not normally enthusiastic about turn-based strategy, but OT was different. So, when I heard about them releasing a prequel game on mobile, and a gacha game at that, I was wary. Square Enix continues to surprise and delight in this franchise/IP. The mechanics for the mobile version are more streamlined, without sacrificing visual or audio quality. The battle techniques get streamlined as well, for 8 characters on your team instead of just 4. In addition to being truer to its name, it’s allowed for a different kind of play style that I find refreshing after having invested so much time in the original. The gacha elements are present but not intrusive to gameplay, which is the standard I prefer for those. Also, Yasunori Nishiki did not “phone it in” with the soundtrack. All of the new music expands Orsterra’s drama and intrigue, and I really am hoping for a volume 2 soundtrack to be released eventually. Just absolutely amazing! 10/10 recommend for the nostalgic elements, music, beautiful artwork, and fun.Version: 1.6.00

✓ My only gripe isThe lack of a toggle stick movement function. I often find my character running the opposite of what I want because the controls are hard to maneuver. I still haven’t figured out how to toggle the run system, even though I’ve watched the tutorial a few times. Other than that, it’s a very engaging story. I play a lot of gatcha games and something they lack is having individual stories already set up for you to play. It’s always more of a “ coming soon in a new update. “ Square never disappoints. ✓ I never write reviews… everI never write reviews and this game finally made me do so. It’s not a game for big spenders or big whales up to this point. There is ZERO pvp element that I can find. If you want a nice retro flashback to an enjoyable NES game…. Let’s say Final Fantasy or Cronotrigger… this game is perfect for you. If you want to spend to build a super roster you can, however it’s not necessary on any level. I’ve been so tired of the mobile games that cater to the highest bidder and give them this huge edge. ✓ Real reviewI was skeptical that this title would be worth the download but I’m glad I did. I never played the original but always wanted to. This game is NOT pay to win. The micro transactions are optional and prices too high to actually want to buy. You don’t need to buy anything. It is worth looking at some beginners guides to learn how to reroll in the beginning. The story is average at best. The game feels like a classic rpg with some interesting mechanics. The lack of consumable items makes the game incredibly difficult for story bosses. There are some spots you will need to grind for materials for better gear and let me say the drop rate is super low with what you’ll need. I will say this is the best FREE rpg available. I’m looking forward to seeing game progression released over the next few months. Voice acting is top notch My only complaints are that the walking control is terrible since you can’t stop walking without switching directions. The game drains battery quite quick for how mediocre the graphics are. The music is very repetitive. I think there is only 6 songs for the entire game..Version: 1.0.01

✓ An amazing gameLet me start by saying that while I love this game, there are a few minor details that take away from it, but arent enough to lower my rating to 4 stars. Some of these include the process of getting new characters, swapping them out, equipping good gear for them all, claiming quests, and opening menus. The only thing wrong with these is that they all take a long time or are very tedious. For example when opening the daily quest menu it can take around 3-7 seconds to load, which I feel like is absurd because Ive never seen another game like this that takes anywhere near as long to open things like that. So it can just get a little tedious claiming rewards or trying to get new characters just because of how long it takes. With all that being said, every other aspect of this game is so amazing that these quality if life complaints mean almost nothing. ✓ Great Mobile OCTOPATHThe game is very good. It implements the OCTOPATH battle system while also adding unique features to make it feel new to players who have played the original game. The lack of items and switching mechanic makes boss fights more difficult and challenging which is always nice. You don’t need to pull for the best 5 stars because the bosses can be cleared with any well-balanced team and strategy. The appearances of characters from the original game is cool for people who experienced the original. ✓ A MARVELOUS, clever “best-of” RPGThis is the first review I’ve written, but with over 70 hours in this game, I feel it’s warranted. It’s a solid little gacha RPG. The story is shockingly good- although my favorite is the first “Wealth” storyline. There’s a lot of hours you can put in this game, the combat is really fun and engaging, the gacha mechanic feels really fair. I play this game every day. I haven’t gotten to the most current storyline yet, but I love this game. The graphics are charming, the soundtrack is catchy and endearing. The 3 star review is nothing more then a ridiculous and ludicrous critique to the highest degree. “Oh the shadows pale in comparison to the first one”. They couldn’t write a story, make art or provide anything near what this game has to offer. It’s free to play and not once have I felt the need to spend money. As for the “grind” what did you expect? It’s the same as the first one and if you level up to fast then you’d blow through the game and then say it was to short but now it takes to long. The nitpicking with people just never ceases to end. ✓ This is a great mobile RPGI don’t usually write reviews but this is a fun game and has some of the best content for an RPG gacha game. The storylines can all be played with the baseline characters and if you do 10 pulls every day (very easy to do) you are bound to end up with 5 star characters from the general pool (albeit slowly). Some people complain there aren’t enough rubies but I would disagree. There are plenty of opportunities to hoard or spend them and get your favorite character. ✓ Started, quit, then returned and loving itSevera months ago I wrote an initial review and didn’t favor this game too highly. Now that I played since day 1 for 3 months then took off 2 months, I have returned and have been playing for several months. The pros to this game are still what I listed in my earlier review, namely the story and its adult-elements, the wide variety of usable units, and the slow but frequent incremental updates. I originally gave some more weight to the negative aspects, especially the banner costs and monetization of the game to be pay to win. Since then, banners seem more reasonable with their step-ups, but the cost for the rubies is still very high compared to other games like WOTV and GI. I recommend this game for free to play at this time and hope that the developers make more robust changes to crystal purchases and free-ruby step ups. The last Nier Collab only had a paid ruby step up, unfortunately. This is not worth it for free to play accounts. But their are general pool step ups for free ruby pulls. All in all, I give it 4/5 and recommend if you want a game to spend 10 minutes+ on per day..Version: 1.9.00
✓ 10/10As a long time fan of Square enix and specifically Octopath traveler, I was over the moon exited when they announced they were releasing CotC globally. The original game is one of my all time favorites and CotC is an amazing continuation of the series especially for a mobile game. I have been playing since launch and my only complaint is the load time when launching. That might have more to do with my internet though. ✓ Dialogue skipperThis game is amazing. The graphics are so heartwarming and the playability is simple and practical. Just a few things bothers me, there’s no dialogue skip option. You can click the screen to go faster but some of it are so long that it becomes tiring. I understand that it’s a shame to skip the story but it should be possible at least for the side and travelers quests, the main story is fun to keep up with. And having to add traveler to the party to do their quest, is annoying, because if it doesn’t belong to the party already, I bet everybody is doing what I do, add and remove immediately after finished. ✓ 9 out of 10.Very fun game and love the came controls and storyline. My only issue is I’ve done maybe 1,500 gem summons and only got 1 (5 star) character. I also noticed the feature reward (gems) remains the same for each quest completed. The gem reward should increase as requirements for the daily or weakly featured quests increases to unlock. The game is very fun and has outstanding game mechanics and awesome storyline. I just hope the summoning system would be improved on the drop rates and also gem increase as features increases its difficulty requirements. Will update my ratings on next update. ✓ WonderfulI was a fan of the original despite feeling that it lacked in endgame. This game is a great adaptation of the overall system for mobile and shorter playthroughs. It carries over enough mechanics that veterans of the old game feel comfortable while the individual and main story beats keep the experience feeling fresh. I just finished Pardis’ storyline and I can’t wait for more content to come out. The gacha rates are pretty rough so be judicious in how you spend your gems. I recommend looking up character reviews on sites like game8 to plan who you want and save up for them. ✓ Fantastic!I normally don’t write reviews. But this game is pretty solid, I normally don’t enjoy single player games. But wow the story is so good and the gameplay is smooth! Story almost had me in tears for a lil bit. Only thing I don’t enjoy is when walking around maps I feel like the monster spawn rate is a lil high. I walk like 5-10ft and then I’m back in another battle. Wish I could walk around for a lil bit without getting aggroed especially because most quests make you walk a full map to get to the destination. Now I just spam the Flee button and don’t even battle the random monsters anymore because I have plenty of materials and seems like a waste of my party's health points. However that being said I am enjoying everything else about the game, combat system is a lil complicated at first, however once you get a solid front row and back row of every type of character it becomes a lot more enjoyable..Version: 1.0.00
✓ Just… WOWI’m a huge fan of the original Octopath Travelers game and this app did not disappoint. I was expecting simple gameplay and necessary money transaction. What I found was an intricate battle system slightly different form the original game and the possibility of free to play! It’s cool to see the old cast returning to the app platform as well as many other characters with different weapons and skills. If you even slightly enjoyed the original Octopath game or never tried it, I would highly recommend you at least give this game a shot. ✓ It’s Octopath Traveler but with built in RNGSo far first impressions have been alright, the game is fun, the exploration and design is intuitive, easy to manage and access. However, it’s very slow in multiple regards to loading certain menus and most cutscenes are unskippable, which is annoying. The Gacha portion of this game reeks of bad transfer rates, the % for 5* characters is low, every 10 rubies is $1, it costs 30 to summon once. 10 pulls are $30 equivalents, terrible rates knowing that the pity system is built into ~200. Which is $2,000. If you don’t want to get slammed by gacha, Stay F2P. You get a free 5* at the tutorial and 300 rubies. ✓ Update- JRPG gem ruined by predatory publisherThis is a masterpiece of a game: great story, fun combat, interesting characters. The irony is that a central theme in the story is the villainy of the wealthy, greedy, and powerful exploiting the common man. This is exactly what SQEX is doing to the global fan base. Setting aside the fact that the prices are outrageous in the gacha market ($30 for a 7.7% chance to pull the featured 5* unit; $600 to guarantee it), for the very first collab SQEX changed the step up banner to not only cost more rubies, but to only work with PAID rubies. But wait, there’s more — the JP version of the banner gave a 50% chance for the featured unit on the last step. In global it is nerfed to 15%. And that’s not all: in JP you could guarantee the unit in 100 pulls — try 200 in global. Path of Greed indeed. Update: SQEX listened to player feedback and attempted to make amends. They did not fix the existing banner, for the best collab unit, and deceptively claimed they could do nothing about it. However, the rest of their actions were enough to raise my rating to 4 stars.
