Banish - Block 'Open in App' for Negative User Reviews

Still get app pop up’s on most sites.Reporting feature no longer works either..Version: 1.39

Thought It Would Remove "Open in app" -It doesn'tWasted money. wanted to get rid of the "open in app" and it just does not do that. So complete wasted money (I already have content blockers". App description somewhat misleading..Version: 1.39

Doesn’t work for LinkedInI specifically bought and downloaded this app because I am trying to avoid automatically viewing LinkedIn profiles in the app when I click on a link for one in safari (a work related issue). For a while, I would be asked if I wanted to open the link in the app, I would simply hit cancel, and I would be able to view the page or profile from safari. Eventually that prompt stopped appearing altogether, and any time I clicked a link in safari it would automatically open in the LinkedIn app. Looking for a way to resolve this, I downloaded this app. I enabled it through settings/extensions as instructed, and immediately I am encountering the same issue— clicking a link in safari takes me to automatically viewing the linked page from within the app. I’ve seen the developers be very helpful with issues in previous reviews, so I am hoping for some guidance here..Version: 1.33

DisappointingOnly £2.50 but disappointing to have paid for this exclusively to remove the “open in app” pop ups on YouTube and Amazon to find they actually just quite simply remain and the extension does nothing..Version: 1.38

Early days yetWorked on a few sites but still got the banner for instagram.com.Version: 1.10

Not for meI’m sorry I think I misunderstood what this was all about…. Having read some misleading reviews I guess. I hate that some companies; Reddit, Evernote force you to use the app when in IOS. There is no way to open the actual website since you are thrown into the app. Evernote is particular good at this. You try all the tricks, open in background etc… it slams you into the app….. So I had read that Banish could prevent this. But it doesn’t. I enabled everything as stated and still get thrown into the App Store if I try to log into Evernote. Reddit also just opened my app, but I am less bothered about that So I don’t really know what else it is used for, that was my only irritation with safari!!.Version: 1.40

Don’t waste your money!I bought this to block popups.. Absolutely WORTHLESS! There was absolutely no difference when I went to all of the sites I visit. SAVE YOUR MONEY!.Version: 1.43

It does NOTHING!Each and every feature in this little extension advertised by this developer is absolutely false! Plex, DuckDuckGo and many other popular web sites which pop up to Get / Open their apps are there - with or without this App!.Version: 1.43

So far, so goodJust installed it. Works great. Will see how it goes. But so far it’s good. Thanks to the dev for making this. EDIT : Just removed it. Does not work very well. Waste of money..Version: 1.14

Does NOT work. Total waste of moneyPurchase the extension, downloaded the app, enabled it fully as instructed in settings, opened Reddit on iPad, and the app banner was still there. Refreshed and even restarted, and no app banner was removed. Tried it on iPhone, and both the banner and pop up showed up. Save your money and time. It doesn’t work..Version: 1.35

Doesn’t work for most popupsThis does not block the NYTimes “Open in App” pop up that appears at the bottom of any article in safari, and it also doesn’t block a bunch of other popups on various sites. All permissions are enabled, and the popups are not the smart banners that are native to safari. I’ve reported a bunch to the developer, however, this is more annoying and wastes more time than just dealing with the popups. What a waste of money..Version: 1.42

Broke my internet - and didn’t workNYTimes pop up about using their app continued just like before. And then my internet stopped working. Ended up spending most of the day sleuthing that, including wiping my iPad Air and factory resetting my WAP and cable modem. All had to be reconfigured manually - twice. Finally got everything working again. Didn’t work for me. YMMV..Version: 1.42

Doesnt workInstalled it, configured it in settings, tried the first site and the popup was still there. Waste of money.Version: 1.11

Doesn’t seem to be working for RedditStill getting the pop ups after enabling Banish. Great idea though. Hopefully they just need to work out the kinks..Version: 1.9

Stopped working overnightIt’s a great idea; I loathe the apps that hijack your browser and force you to the app (or worse, worthlessly redirect you to the App Store even when you already have the app downloaded, thereby disrupting whatever you were reading). I paid for the app gladly, and it worked yesterday. Today, it’s not working at all; the Yelp mobile site is redirecting me to the app every time I try to click on anything. Love the concept, but I’m going to request a refund if this isn’t fixed pretty quickly..Version: 1.18

Doesn’t WorkStill see those App promo ads that take up half the screen on the iphone mini..Version: 1.43

Good Job/Still There? Those open in app prompts were super annoying. Now just squash The NY Times pop up that tries to get you to use their app and I’ll be ecstatic. Edit: Today I am getting an open in app prompt for Facebook. Maybe they’re faking it or found a workaround or else there’s a bug in Banish. Edit: I’ve changed my rating as the NY Times problem remains unresolved and, furthermore, the web site is locking up on me now. Edit: changed my rating back as the NY Times app thing seems to have finally been fixed. Thank you. Edit: NY Times has a new annoying promt that I reported but no response. Hope the developer is okay. If so, then they have become unresponsive..Version: 1.42

I’m having difficulty setting this up.I’ve followed the instructions and enabled both banish and banish content blocker, but I still get an open in app banner for Wikipedia. Please advise..Version: 1.44

Doesn’t work on highjacking adds or websites🫤.Version: 1.43

Data Collector? This app clearly states this in the settings when allowing access: “This extension can read and alter web pages you visit and see your browsing history on all websites. This includes sensitive information from web pages, including passwords, phone numbers and credit cards.” Not sure if it’s collecting or just reading but anyone seeing sensitive info is a massive red flag! Be cautious! I’ve already requested a refund and deleted the app..Version: 1.9

Doesn’t work at all. Don’t waste your moneyStill have the « open in app » banner on all the websites I usually go (YouTube, Amazon…) this app is a steal. Wasted $4+tax..Version: 1.43

Stopped Working Day 2I saw a couple reviews like this but decided to buy it anyway. The app worked day 1 at blocking re-directs to the App Store, or to Walmart, etc. but it stopped working day 2 for certain websites. What a disappointment.Version: 1.26

Doesn’t work on New Yorker nor Washington post JournalAs said. Maybe more..Version: 1.38

Not really noticing much differenceI HATE popups and I HATE ads. To be honest, I'm not really noticing much of a difference after a couple of days with Banish. Mostly, I see "login" popups on sites such as forums, social media, etc.. You know, the popups that happen after you scroll a bit and are in the middle of reading something. Disabling Java temporarily in Safari will kill the ads, but this also kills most websites or changes the layout drastically. Hopefully this is because I'm on iPadOS 16.1.1 and maybe a future update to Banish will help. I only surf on an iPad and with Safari. I would pay much more than three bucks for an anti ad/anti-popup extension that is Safari-centric and continuously updated. The market is ripe for such a product! I'm concurrently using other anti-ad & anti-popup extensions, but nothing seems to kill the "I'm in the middle of reading" popups that have an extremely negative effect on the user experience. It seems like it gets harder every year to keep popups out of my attention span. Bummer. To be fair, maybe I misunderstood what Banish is meant to do..Version: 1.31

It doesn’t workMost of the times, it doesn’t work.Version: 1.43

Doesn’t remove open in app banner which is the whole reason i purchased itDoesn’t remove open in app banner which is the whole reason i purchased it.Version: 1.38

No updates in 5 monthsDoes what it says it’ll do… as of right now. But I see that the app hasn’t been updated in 5 months. Not since before the release of iOS 17. Regular updates give the customer reassurance that the developer hasn’t abandoned the app. I recommend not buying Banish until the developer has at least updated it to the most current iOS..Version: 1.43

Doesn’t workSupposedly this prevents websites from prompting google sign in however is not working. Just went on the globe and mail website, banish is enabled guess what? Google sign in pop up prompts!.Version: 1.43

Doesn’t work at all. Fully installed/permissioned.I just bought, installed, and gave full permissions to this extension about 5 mins ago despite seeing several bad reviews, and now I find out they were right: it literally does nothing at all. Great. Thanks for taking my $3..Version: 1.35

New York Times not banishedI bought this app specifically to banish the awful NYT popups to open in their app. I followed the install directions exactly and it doesn’t work. The pop up looks different… but it’s still there..Version: 1.38

1 star until developer responds about confusing configurationDo I need both the extensions turned on in “safari extensions”. One of which says it can alter webpages and view browsing history including passwords and credit cards. The other says “this extension doesn’t have permission to alter webpages or view browsing history” And do I need to do anything else in the actual app to activate it? Thanks. If this can be cleared up I’ll rate the app appropriately..Version: 1.43

Doesn’t work.Does not work as advertised. Fails to block browser/app prompt consistently. It works periodically but it should work always..Version: 1.30

Does Not WorkFrom The Banish FAQ: FAQ Q: Why am I still seeing banners at the top? A: Banners can still appear at the top for apps you have installed. They can't be removed because they're built into Safari. The only way to remove them is to uninstall those apps. Let me see if I understand this, For Banish to work you must uninstall the App for which Banish is supposed to banish the banners? If I uninstall the app why would I need Banish? I’ve uninstalled Banish and wasted my money. I hope this review helps others save their time and money..Version: 1.42

Banish doesn’t workI have spend way too long doing tutorials, checking the settings and following all the trouble shooting. I bought this to block the “read in app pop ups from the NYT and it simply does not work. How do I get my money back?.Version: 1.35
