✓ This App delivers all that it promises to deliver.Finally, an Iphone app that utilizes the GPS capabilities of the phone for recreation rather than street navigation that needs a data connection to work properly. The following is a summary of my thoughts on GPS kit. 1. The dashboard is simple and easy to navigate, customisation is simple. Most of the info required for recreational use is available for use. 2. The track function is something I have been waiting for in an app. Being able to see where you’ve been on a blank canvas is very handy. Being able to publish to Google earth and Google maps is a nice addition. 3. Waypoints work the way they are intended to, you are able to see all waypoints on the page at once, and the list shows them in order of proximity. Although this app is very good, it is not perfect… yet. The following would be welcome additions to this app 1. Eastings and Northings as an option as well than Lat Long. I have never used Lat Long and feel that for recreational use, Eastings and Northings are far more practical than lat long. 2. Tracks would be nice to be able to view in the map app but this may be something apple has restricted. 3. Multiple tracks would be nice. 4. The ability to see your current position on the track/map 5. Following on from the previous point. Real time tracking. In its current form you have to reload the map for updates on the track. 6. When the app is shut down and you move to a new location the track shows a straight line to you new location the next time you load the app. What would be nice is for the tracks to only record a line when there is continuous satellite reception. Maybe an option for this is for the tracks to be a series of dots rather than a line joining the dots together. 7. Waypoints need to have a go to function, in my opinion this is the biggest omission in this app. The ability to select a waypoint and click “go to”, after which a compass screen appears with a directional arrow indicating the direction and distance to the selected waypoint, this is a must in recreational GPS units. The compass screen could also be an item on the bottom menu. 8. The ability to load waypoints onto the phone. I have hundreds of waypoints from my other GPS that I would like to load but other than manually entering the lat long manually there is no way to do this that I know of. 9. Tracks and waypoints display on a map can’t be zoomed in on to any great resolution. It would be nice to be able to zoom in and get better resolution as you zoom in rather than the image on the screen just getting bigger. I had set my budget for an app like this much higher than the current asking price, the only major omission is the go to function. This review above was for version 1.0, Version 2.0 addresses all but two of the point raised above. Still can't load waypoints onto the unit and still can't zoom in for better resolution. The new update brings with it some welcome additions like maps and the goto function, multiple tracks and grouping series of waypoints which is a surprising but very useful addition. ✓ VERY ImpressedGreat app, had it for years, only app that I have found that makes it easy to record multiple tracks at different times in an area- then view them all at once while recording more: PERFECT for mapping hidden enduro singletrack, then linking it all up into an EPIC loop! I've used this app heavily for years and have been very impressed by the set of tools the app offers. However, please update the app to keep current with new IOS's. The app sometimes now crashes a few seconds after launching it - on my iPhone 5. My Dad just got the app for his iPhone 6 and it seems a bit more buggy on his phone. One request is for adding the ability to create notifications when getting within 'x' distance of a waypoint/track, or from getting 'x' distance away from a particular waypoint/track. That would be awesome! So this is all to say, thanks for the great app, but please keep updating it..Version: 7.0.1
✓ Best around but maybe too expensive?I've tried most of the gps tools - even the paid ones and this is clearly the best one available. The biggest issue is not running in the background or while locked which is a major problem considering power but is the same with all gps apps. Hope Apple frees developers because this is a real let down of the phone/touch. The main page isn't pretty but gets the job done. The tools there replaced another app I paid 1.99 for so that's kind of a "freebie" in the price I guess. The tracking was what I was after and it did a good job. Better by far than any of the other path tracking apps so I'm happy there. In fact it did more than I wanted. Having the path over top of the map is great. I find when switching from path to poi view the data is slow to catch up but does. The map views are slow to load but eventually do. I'm on 3G so in a low signal environment that could be an issue. It would be nice if maps could be pre-loaded but I'm sure that will come. Anyway. This is probably the best app yet for gps functions. All the others left me disappointed and so far so good here. The developers appear to be eager to improve the software so I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with it. I would like to see Satellite info added like a hand held gps has. I would also like to tap-zoom on the track view rather than pinch. I say get it cuz I blew at least $10 trying a bunch of others that this one does and does very well and it replaced 3 apps I had which is great. ✓ Still amazing, but badly needs updates!My original review of this app many years ago was one star. It really did deserve the rating, and I almost asked for my money back. But now that I have a faster phone (iPhone 3G users this app is not for you) and now that the interface has been redesigned I'm happy to give it four stars. This is the most comprehensive GPS app out there, and for $10 it will replace your Garmin or other similar device. Since you can use it in airplane mode with location services enabled, I use this app when I'm on forestry roads and need to find my heading and coordinates so I can find myself on my comprehensive paper maps. If you are looking for an app that will be useful on a multiple day hiking trip, this is for you! If you want a nav app, or have an older iPhone, find something else. ✓ Great GPS appI've used this for a few weeks now and the feature set is quite complete. Way points and tracks work great, the uploading of points to google maps (amung others) works well. The customizable dash board gives a great overview of your trip. I'll be using this instead of my eTrek Venture HC for sure. One improvement which would make this a 5 star: Ability to cache maps works awesome, but would be nice if you could download all zoom levels for a given area. A little time-consuming to cache all zoom levels for larger areas. Frustrating when you enter an area you didn't think you were going to and the map ends a little too early! ✓ Pretty goodThis is probably one of the better GPS systems for iphone out there. I am in Canberra, Australia and it works fine here. I checked the speed accuracy and it was spot on. The thing people need to remember is that sometimes there are just not as many GPS satellites around to get a good fix, but when there are it is excellent. What would be handy is a satellite signal strength indicator in the "looking for GPS" screen, so that I can tell if putting the iPhone on the car dashboard, or holding it out the window is going to get a GPS fix quicker. The extent that it accomplishes this is just ideal when you are trying to cover a task relating to mapping, real estate , traveling records, movement records, just about any task where documenting your movements is critical. I have found that if you carefully use a handheld GPS such as a Garmin 78sc, and a quality sighting compass with any variety of maps you can attain some very impressive and unexpected types of data that pecan be as accurate and as detailed as you may need. Glad to see the app hasn't been abandoned, this update was long overdue. This, in my opinion, is the best mapping app of it's type. Old review: Went on a group ride in the back woods with 10 other guys, some with dedicated gps units. When the other guys found out halfway through the ride that the route had more points than their gps would load, I was the only one left with the route. I had preloaded the maps for the area, so even though we had no cell coverage I had maps and the full course to lead everyone out of the woods the last sixty miles. Loads multiple routes, caches large areas of maps for use outside of cell coverage, lots of route info, supports gpx and kml and importing and exporting from emailed files to make sharing easy..Version: 8.0

✓ Works great for me!Defiently the best GPS app available... love being able to customize the dashboard to show whatever I want, love the maps especially the Topo maps. For those users experiencing issues, it's only due to their GPS reception... maybe if they actually got outside and used it instead of playing around with it in their house it would work. Also the GPS reception has nothing to do with the app or the developer, it has to do with environmental conditions and any GPS device has to deal with these factors as well. I live in North Vancouver and Mountain Bike alot... I turn it on for the ride and can add waypoints for the entrances to hard to find trails as well as track full trails to help me keep on the right track when I come back, sometimes they get confusing with all the crisscrossing, but being able to look at this app when I get to a crossroads really helps. It helps even more when I can check a few minutes after proceeding one way to see if I am on the correct path. I have a bunch of trails saved now and it almost always works awesome. I can add waypoints for big drops and crazy laddder sections so that I can remember what's coming up. Can't wait for this winter to help me get back to some of the amazing out-of-bounds stuff around Whistler, some of the best pillow lines and cliff drops are hard to find again and again and being able to trace my path and save it will be huge!! I can now say with the latest updates 21 Feb 09, that GPS Kit with Google Maps (road and terrain) and upload/downloadable tracks and waypoints, is the best iPhone GPS for hikers. The only problem is of course cellphone coverage. The road detail in Australia is incredible. Small creeks and streams! Wow! All it needs is turn by turn and it would be there! ✓ GREAT APP V3Excellent app, when I first installed V1 it was good and has progressively got even better with each version. V3 crashed on loading a few times after I installed it, after a few reboots now seems stable. Would like to see sat map that displays sat location and signal strength (like GPS Dash for WM) & more fields and different display options (analog) different colours etc. Once again fantastic app well worth the price, keep up the great work GPS Kit team..Version: 0

✓ Excellent Tracking AppHi Guys, This is an excellent tracking app, as everyone says shame it cannot run in the background! It would be good if it kept the phone screen on while running (I assume when the screen goes off it stops tracking!) It could do with displaying the distance it has tracked & some distance summaries for the miles/kms run but on the whole it's brilliant The ability to save tracks & the summary for each would be great so you could see if you improve would be really cool to! I recommend this to anyone, I have tried a few of the others but I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for here!.Version: 0

✓ Uber-cool!Yes, this a great app and a little disturbing that I can be tracked so easily, however, the maximum speed it said I was doing was in excess of 160km/h which would get my licence suspended! Obviously my cruise control is wildly inaccurate or this app needs some more work. I tried it while walking too - at sea level I was 149 feet above where I was and traveling at 32km/h according to the app. So, either there is some calibration required or Superman eat my shorts!.Version: 0

✓ 3.1 is ok for meI found 3.0 to be handy feature wise but it wasn't so stable for long recording... So far 3.1 seems a massive improvement stability wise. I find the double tap map for waypoints helpful, and as other apps fail to record gps with iphone locked i like how GPSKIT uses the proximity sensor to disable the screen backlight saving battery life, and the new 'only poll gps every 30 seconds option'. I've tried them all, and this an GPS Motion X are the only two to remain on my iPhone. GPS Motion X has been good but in the current version i get a lot of 'dotted tracks' with the phone locked, eg it's lost where i've walked and only recorded a straight as the crow flies style track. GPS Kit is currently still my prefered for this reason, and I love the ruler to check how far something on the map is. The mapping data in GPSkit is far more complete also, and smoother. Last Review: This is the first GPS app i bought, and have since purchased several others, but GPS Kit is by far the most accurate. Others start recording when accuracy is too low so the start of tracks have giant lines everywhere, GPS Kit does not do this. With the features in the new version, they've added everything I've desired from the other apps and more but now i have this AND the stability / accuracy of GPS Kit. Well done..Version: 0
