ITranslate Translator for Negative User Reviews
✓ Not free at allI downloaded this app because it shows as free and I wanted to try it. Could not get a single translation for free because it works offline for free. I don't mind paying a one time charge for a better version of an app I've tried and liked, but $7 a month is robbery..Version: 15.0.11
✓ Hard to cancel free 1 week subscription (with auto renews to a 1 year paid subscription)Convoluted to unsubscribe. SAID I needed to sign up to manage subscription, but it didn’t help. Manage subscription link fails regardless. Needed to use time to research how to unsubscribe on Google. Seems to be made purposefully difficult to unsubscribe. A trap..Version: 13.0.3
✓ Payment Disaster!I downloaded this app and created an account until I found out there was a cost. So I deleted the account and the app but the app kept my email address and emails me every day saying I owe £4.99! No I don’t, okay I deleted the app and everything to do with it. But the worst part is I can’t even unsubscribe from where these emails are coming from!! They could improve the app by GETTING RID OF MY EMAIL!! So if you’re about to download this and create an account think about the cost created before you do. I thought this could've been a good idea until I downloaded it about 11 months ago and yet I STILL get emails about it. Although I also think why even have a cost for a translator I'd be better just learning the language! Anyway that was my review, but you'll only see this if you're still reading so I'd like to reward you with. . . Not downloading the app..Version: 12.3.5
✓ Not free, planned obsolescenceYou cannot use the app unless you subscribe, and get 7 days before you get charged. After reading the reviews & more importantly the responses from the developer, it is obvious that there is not much in the way of quality control, as in every response I read, the developer blames the user or device for the problem. This is no doubt possible, it is highly unlikely that it is every cause, not to mention the bait & switch of being a free download, but not a free app, I suspect a lot of the reviews are fake, & the app is crap because the problems people have are the same issues, & the developer always blames the user. That is seems to sink of planned obsolescence. Developers respond with a cut & paste of, “The free version is free & the pro version is paid”...this is completely true. So I will revise, there are no available translation features in the free version, you have to pay for that. In the free version, the only feature is seeing what you may be able to translate if you pay, just hope it is correct/works. DO NOT BOTHER.Version: 13.0.3
✓ In JapanI was excited to get the app initially. It did help make some translations. I translated a few phrases (while on WiFi) and screenshot the display so that it could be used as we were out. Of course the issue was that I could not predict what conversations would come about. So I did the trial for “Off-Line” Translations. When I used it out and off line, the Japanese did not understand it; could not read it, and expressed “it made no sense”. Therefore, the off-line version did NOT work. As I used the same pre-recorded phases (when in WiFi) there was no problem. The Japanese laughed as they understood my punchlines effortlessly. Another issue was that the app did NOT recognize Japanese symbols. It displays that it only works when on WiFi- and yet when I used it; still no progress. Surely it was a let down for I needed it the most. Gotta cancel this app as soon as I get back home. It helped, but did not perform as designed..Version: 12.3.2
✓ Offline mode doesn’t workTrying to save on roaming, even after paying when I try to use offline mode, app asks me to pay again. Cancelling subscription, lost $6.99.Version: 15.1.5
✓ Don’t bother with this oneDid not work for me when on holiday then “automatically” charges me a renewal fee Avoid this app Also really hard to unsubscribe from.Version: 12.5
✓ Not What it Used to BeCame back to iTranslate and bought a year’s subscription hoping that it would be as before with my experience and moreover, accuracy. Had the subscription for about 2 weeks, and have asked for my money back. It fails to give anymore than a free Google translate app. Before, it would give links to all verb conjugations in the tenses, now it doesn’t, it just lists them in English which ridiculous when one is using it for a second language. This used to be a valuable aid to my learning (Italian), now the format is poor and lacking..Version: 16.0.5
✓ Useless for Accurate Norwegian TranslationsI’ve given this a 3-star rating because, most of the time, the translations are completely inaccurate. One time, the result was a sentence with the f-word in, when translating a completely polite sentence from Norwegian to English. The majority of the time, colloquialisms don’t translate even close to the correct thing in English. So much more work to be done, at least in terms of Norwegian/English translations. EDIT: I’ve had this app for well over 2 years now and the Norwegian hasn’t improved so I’m reducing score to 1-star as the app is useless and I want to free up space on phone. Google Translate is streets ahead now. A simple phrase like “happy belated birthday” doesn’t translate either way and not does the word overstått..Version: 12.6.1
✓ Chinese translation very poorVery frustrating trying to communicate to my friends family in China, the translation is never correct and messages from them when I translate it to English is completely wrong. I try just to send a few words at a time which does help but still not correct and mostly the message doesn’t make sense. I know it’s a very hard language to translate into English but even so I wished it translated better than it does. The app is easy to use..Version: 10.7.1
✓ This is not free!No useful part of this app is free! It is less useful than conducting a random google search. Spare yourself the headache and look for another app..Version: 12.5.3
✓ The new UI is HORRIBLEI have used this app daily for years and am a Pro subscriber. Especially because i am a healthcare worker in a city where many of my patients speak another language. The new interface is shockingly bad. When i am typing in one language, even if I have selected that language to translate from, the Auto Detect Language feature flips the translation languages around in the middle of my typing so that I have to start all over again! Then when i do finish typing and submit my text to be translated, the translation side will be BLANK until i click in the blank translated text box to copy/paste it. Also, with the voice translation, if the speaker pauses for one millisecond or even stops for a breath the voice translation stops listening and i am embarrassed to have to ask the speaker to speak again. I don’t know what the iTranslate team were thinking with these changes but they have made an app that was so fun and easy to use into a pain in the rear and now i want to cancel my Pro subscription and am forced to find another translation app!.Version: 15.0.8
✓ Not user friendlyIt is not user friendly. I didn't use it but already charge one month fee after I delete it..Version: 12.3.5
✓ Disappointed with new subscription requirementI have been using iTranslate for years. Mostly to translate Welsh / English, because it’s one of the most accurate. I also use it occasionally for French, German & Spanish due to family connections. A good while back I decided to upgrade to iTranslate Pro, which made the experience even more fluid & I felt it was money well spent. Today I try to use it to translate an email from a German relative, only to discover that I can’t use the German translator anymore, unless I subscribe to the monthly package. This is such a rip off of loyal customers who have already forked out for the pro version & I am very very disappointed and to be honest, quite cross! You have taken a successful & good value & useful app & made it unappealing to say the least. 😡.Version: 11.0.2
✓ Inaccurate translationsDon’t trust this app, the other reviews seem good but... I just downloaded this app to translate English to Cantonese to test how well it works, I speak chinese fluently and have realized some of the translations are way off and make no sense. For example, I put in “fast hand” which doesn’t make any sense, but the Chinese that came out translated to “please go faster.” Furthermore, I put in just simply “hand” and it translated to “put your hands up.” These mis-translations mean if you were to actually go to China you will cause lots of confusion and seriously embarrass yourself, dont use this, move along..Version: 12.7.4
✓ Not very helpfulI was trying to translate my Japanese assignment into English using the photo function and it kept coming up with weird punctuations or random words. I tested this out on a phrase which read what is your favourite subject and it came up with what is your favourites seagull. Overall I had to guess parts from what it had said and some things I couldn’t even guess. It could work for other languages but I wouldn’t recommend purchasing this app for the Japanese photo function..Version: 12.7.11
✓ I’m confused..So, I got this app because I wanted to see if I could fool around with my friends and translate my text into different languages, but whenever I do ‘full access’ it freezes my iPad and I can’t move anything. I keep trying and trying again but it never works. I don’t know if this is just my iPad that doing that or it’s the app, but if it’s just my iPad being weird then I’m really sorry!! Could you help please?.Version: 14.1.8
✓ Add more languages please.I have a Peruvian related family where my mother and I has a similar bloodline to them. there was a Facebook post my cousin made and she’s Peruvian. So I end up using Mexican language to translate but I couldn’t find her language 😟. Instead I brought myself to the usual Mexican translation. I wanted to comment on her but I want to make sure I’m fluent in their language so they can understand. So, I typed my words to translation of what I wanted to comment, which is a little joke. So I thought it could go well! WRONG. my mother had told me that the comment came out as an insult, not a joke. I tried to say it the way I want it to be said but instead I had to go back to her post and delete my comment. ☹️ Mainly it was my fault, I wish to respect your app but I am really disappointed that this app does not have any additional Hispanic languages. Not saying this app is uncultured, but I would wish more for it to adapt to change. I’m just saying..Version: 12.7.11
✓ Scam at bestUnder no circumstances download this app, once you put your credit card details in you will have a horrendous time cancelling your subscription as it is a third party subscription..Version: 13.0.2
✓ Wrong TranslationI heard about the app from a few friends and they told me to try it out. As a friend, I decided to check it out. Of course, I know two languages, English and Japanese. So, I was thinking I could find out if the translation are right. Even find a few new words myself. So I typed in some stuff in English. Guess what? They even got the simple ‘Hello’ in Japanese wrong! I mean, if you are learning Japanese, that is the first thing you learn. And yet, some people may think the is simply correct. They got others wrong, too. My friend has a trip overseas and so she tried getting a good translate app to learn a couple of words. Poor girl thinks that the words are correct. Even I know. Who is running it? Make a app that actually works. Not give me and others half way. Thank you for reading this..Version: 12.5.3
✓ Cannot cancel Subscription - THE CANCEL BUTTON IS MISSINGDO NOT SUBSCRIBE. I use the trial and after the trial I CANNOT cancel the subscription. There is no option to cancel the subscription on iTunes. Instead there is only options to extend the subscription. Not sure what is going on. Unless you want to subscribe for the app forever...DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!!!! No help from the app developers as well. They blame it on Apple!! And where does apple stand?! So unless you are sure you want this FOREVER do not subscribe and DO try the fake trial!!.Version: 10.9.1
✓ They charged with no permissionI DID NOT GIVE PERMISSION TO CHARGE ME FOR THE PRO VERSION. NOW MY ACCOUNT COSTS ME $57 dollars for what??? I DIDNT ASK FOR THE PRO.Version: 12.7.9
✓ Spanish translations not always correctI took Spanish at one of the number one language schools in the world, but had not used my Spanish for many years. Occasionally I check my words if I’m not sure. Multiple times the word that was translated did not seem correct to me, so I would go to 2 other translation Apps, & BOTH had the same translations, but yours was WAY OFF. I LOVE your site, but many times I double check your translation. I am advanced in Spanish, but when you have not used the Spanish in years, YOU FORGET!! I sent a text to a friend, & I used a word that you translated. I was told IMMEDIATELY, the translation was INCORRECT. This was from a teacher who TAUGHT Spanish. I know enough Spanish to know, if the translation just does not seem correct to me..Version: 14.2.2
✓ Not happyI have downloaded this app for 7 day free trial but was not helpful for me cancel the purchase and delete the app but still charge the month subscription fee. No clear instructions how to cancel subscription. Please cancel my subscription and refund my money. Thanks.Version: 12.2.1
✓ Unappealing subscription modelThe app looks great and I'm sure there are many features I would use, but there's no way I could justify paying an ongoing subscription of £4.99 a month for something that I would probably only use a few times a year when I travel overseas. Maybe the app is aimed at professionals who need to translate items on a daily basis. If the developer came up with some other subscription options more appropriate to my needs then I'd be happy to consider that..Version: 12.0.2
✓ GlitchesAs soon as I type more than 5 letters, the screen enters the incomplete word in the wrong language section and doesn’t continue typing. It’s useless, deleting app.Version: 15.0.11
✓ Bad app don’t getNot good at all, apps free but you have to pay to use pretty much any language. Also way overpriced in general. I paid anyways and started testing it out and the translations aren’t even accurate..Version: 14.0.6
✓ ITranslateTerrible app. Constantly freezes, crashes. Touch the screen and nothing happens frequently. Microphone feature doesn’t work very well. Have complained to them and sent video’s to no avail..Version: 15.1.5
✓ Unhelpful auto functionThis used to be a great app. The recent auto-translate function is just annoying. I start to type a word or phrase and before I’ve completed it, the partial word is translated and then wiped as the app thinks I’m starting a new word. For example, I try and type ‘medications’, but when I get to ‘medicatio’ it auto translates as Italian then wipes and I’m left typing ‘ns’. Please remove the autofunction, pressing the return key worked fine..Version: 15.0.11
✓ WarningThis app starts charging your Apple account automatically! Beware that after 7 days you will be charged whether you have an account or not. It also only had a 50% successful translation rate on English to French..Version: 12.3.5
✓ Fair at bestThe app is good for some things. I do love the verb conjugations and the ease of use. The problem is the translations are inconsistent often literally word translations vs concept or translations of simple phrases. As much as I want to like this app, I can never trust it and ALWAYS have to go to a second app to verify. For example today I came across the word “sobrecargos” in the phrase “la amabilidad de los sobrecargos”. Your app translated that as “overcharges” even in translating the entire phrase. Since “the kindness of the overcharges” (the translation provided by iTranslate) didn’t make sense I knew there had to be another definition. I had to go to another app to get the phrase “the kindness of the flight attendants”. To check if this was an extremely obscure definition I googled sobrecargos and all of top hits were regarding flight attendants. This occurs so often that I cannot trust iTranslate translations on their own. MOST of the time it’s fine but sometimes it can be catastrophic, so I ALWAYS double check in another app..Version: 14.1.1
✓ Got robbed from this appThis app was pulling $7 from my account monthly without me even knowing about it.Version: 12.7.5
✓ Be careful of your moneyNot user friendly to cancel subscription. First,I was charged before the trial period ended. Second, when I touch “manage subscription”, phone said invalid address, so no way I can cancel subscription. Third, there is a bottom called log out- the screen say “good-bye”, and I don’t know whether this implies cancellation, usually to log-out from an app does not mean cancel your subscription. I log out anyway. Response: When I went to the Apple Setup as instructed by the developer, there is again no button for you to cancel subscription! Apart from asking you to restore and subscribe for more products !!!.Version: 10.8
✓ Started to Download itI was going to download this app bc we were spending a month in Europe, but after reading the reviews, Didn’t download. The reason wasn’t mainly bc so many people were unhappy about too many & too loud of ads (altho that was a small part of he reason). The main reason was the defensive, rude responses the people who gave reviews got from the developers! I am appalled that they would be called liars. Developers: Why on earth do you think so many people would say the same thing? Why do you think they would make that up? Do you think you are endearing yourselves to customers (where you get your $ from) by being so caustic? I will tell you I believe your customers, not you. And so will virtually every body else. And I also noticed that absolutely nothing is a glitch in YOUR program. It’s all the customer’s problem., or someone else’s ‘fault.’ Wow! Smart enough to create (what could be) a cool app, but too immature to know how to handle customer service courteously. Old saying: “You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar.”.Version: 10.9
✓ Okay 😦If you’re looking for a translator app and you don’t want to pay then this is not your best bet . I’m quite disappointed because I searched around the raitings and reviews and all the information and I did not see one bit of it saying that you had to pay!!😐 The price doesn’t even seem reasonable plus you have to pay 💰 every week!!!! Also when I tried getting into the app and understand it and what languages to learn all it came up with was my payments and they wanted all my details and I hadn’t even got a chance to actually login! And it nearly got money 💰 from me then to try to stop ✋ it I had to delete the app!! But that’s only my opinion and you might really like it and find it really helpful!😊all I dislike about this app is that all it tried doing is take my money 💴 and I didn’t want to get involved with paying!! But I hope you like this app and if you’re looking for a app that you don’t want to pay with especially every week when you might not even go on it often then just find out more about it or delete it!😊.Version: 12.6.5
✓ I tried the free trialI tried the free trial and it was a decent app. but i completely forgot to cancel it. i was now charged for a whole year worth subscription. i cannot afford this rn. i would extremely appreciate a refund asap.Version: 15.0.18
✓ Conflicting TranslationsI purchased this app because I’m traveling Latin America for the next 6 months and was looking to use this as a tool while I’m learning Spanish. The voice recognition is frustrating, it takes a few tries to recognize the correct thing being said for English and Spanish. It also gives a different translation when spoken vs typed even though the spoken words show up exactly as typed. Unfortunately I didn’t notice these errors during the week trial period and when I reached out to the developer they responded with rudeness and was very argumentative. They said that someone would need to speak punctuations for it to translate properly. This is absurd. I have found another app that functions with accuracy when one is in a real life conversation. I’m ticked that I wasted $50 bucks on this crap and trying to figure out how to get a refund is proving to be worse than unraveling a spiderweb. Do NOT waste your money!.Version: 12.6.5
✓ Very helpfulThis app is very useful for me, because I have Chinese friends, and I really want to learn how to speak Chinese..Version: 12.7.5
✓ FeedbackHey - just wanting to share my thoughts regarding ITranslate. For me it has been a break through translating assistant for years and when the ability to have it as a keyboard on my phone came out, I was incredibly impressed. I don’t have anything negative to add apart from I can’t stand that it adds a little flag emoji now at the beginning of anything you translate. Please add an option to turn that feature on and off. Thanks!.Version: 12.3.5
✓ No longer user friendlyFollowing the latest update, in text mode you no longer get 2 windows only one which by the instructions should automatically select which language you’re typing. IT DOESNT ! You have to reverse the languages shown to be able to type in correctly. Either make the auto selection work correctly or go back to the two text boxes. I imagine that this is probably because I’m using the free version? If so it’s just another tactic to get people to buy the upgraded version..Version: 15.0.1
✓ I should NOT have installed this - has been charged without a proper reminderI installed it, was going to try but having to deal with more important things completely forgot. The next things I see was a receipt. I wish I had a perfect memory or were smarter but I also think that not sending cancellation reminders is a genius business model. Congratulations to the owners of this app - they are going to be rich!.Version: 10.9.1
✓ Free appThis is NOT a free app. Stop advertising it as one please..Version: 14.0.6
✓ Conflicted FeelingsI would like to start this review by saying that the idea is really great. I would totally subscribe for the verb conjugations and the layout is very clean. However I noticed another review noting that the Korean translations are incorrect, something I also noticed when using the app. 갈게 does not translate to “LL” at all. 徒然 didn’t even have a translation and was just romanized in English to “Tozenn” which is an incorrect romanization... Although I do see the option to input correct translations if they are wrong and I am not a developer, I feel that if you are trying to get people to use this as a translating app, you might want to hold off on some languages until they are fully developed and correct. As for the people who are saying iTranslate “automatically charges” and that the developer is accusing users of lying, I understand where you come from. But most apps do the same thing, advertising a free trial. They will charge you after the free trial, which I think is wrong and should be verified with the user before they assume you bought the PRO version, but you can always say you do not want to start a free trial. It’s a good idea to read everything before you just click next..Version: 11.0.2
✓ Fix the Italian please!I am learning Italian on a learning app and just to double check its correct Italian I translated the Italian words to English. I translated (in Italian to English) ‘Ciao, mi chiama Serena. Come stai?’ Which means ‘Hello, my name is Serena. How are you?’ But my translator told me it meant ‘Hi, is that Serena?’ Which I was very confused about. Fix this and I’ll write you a happy reply with five stars! Also, thankyou very much for creating the app, because a majority of the translations are correct and have helped me message my Aunty in Italy, and she has replied in Italian and understood. It’s very useful for homework too! Also I don’t mean to be rude by saying this. Just annoying that my Italian is messing up, peace ✌️.Version: 12.6.3
✓ Useless UpdateI used to love this app and I have been a Pro subscriber for several years. But following the recent major update it has limited my use of different keyboards unless I allow the developers to download the information I type into the translator. This could sometimes be personal information so I will not allow it. I am so disappointed with the developers for this change, which I can only assume is so they can further monetise this app by selling information to advertisers. Sadly my annual subscription was only paid 1 week ago so I am unable to cancel it for this year. But I will no longer be using this app and the automatic renewal has been cancelled. By the way, the upgrade makes the app much more difficult to use in my opinion. A typical example of a developer that doesn’t use the app thinking they have improved it but actually making the user’s life more difficult. I suggest people now find a different translation app that doesn’t harvest personal information for profit..Version: 15.0.0
✓ Instantly charges you 100 dollars and does not even workInstantly charged you 100 dollars once you open the app to secure your “free trial”. Hot tip guys, according to the ACCC it is NOT a free trial if your required to put in payment details! Anyway, tried translating selecting auto detect language and it detected Chinese text as Spanish. Than once using manual translation and selecting Chinese it translates Chinese into completely broken English in a manor impossible to understand! 100 bucks and it does not work, and charges you for a “free trial”. If that’s not the definition of a scam than nothing is! Welcome to the reason why I never download apps..Version: 14.1
✓ Convoluted Opt out subscription model1 star simply because this app makes the process of auto-renewing it very convoluted. The “manage subscription” button takes you to a broken iTunes store link and I had to read through the reviews to work out how to cancel before the auto-renew kicked in. Note to developer - you can argue all you want that the process for cancelling a subscription is clearly documented but the fact is you now have another 1* review. Try adopting an “opt in” model rather than “opt out” and I will reconsider my rating. PS- the translation functionality isn’t great either..Version: 12.2
✓ Expensive - my own fault I guess!!!Just like the previous reviewer, I too have discovered that this app has been taking a subscription and that the £4.99 was NOT a one-off payment. I suggest that everyone looks up on how to review their Apple account payments (and not just rely on their payment card providers bill). This way you can see exactly what apps are taking payments. I reinstalled the app as I had deleted it months ago and payments are still taken whether you use it or not. I have chosen to use the Google FREE translator app. Now that I have cancelled my subscription I will delete this app without delay. I’ve got a trip abroad planned this month and my current payment would cover this in a timely manner but I’m deleting it anyway!!! If you’re in the same boat then please take the time to post a review and help to warn others..Version: 12.4.15
✓ Good idea, needs polishSo a couple of things I immediately noticed. The iMessage app keyboard is broken. You can’t type alternate characters (like “ç”) because the menu disappears when you move your finger to select them. It works if you install the actual iMessage keyboard, but not in the iMessage app. I would really like to have the 3D touch cursor control enabled in the keyboard (firm press turns keyboard area into trackpad to move cursor in text field). I speak english and the person I use this with speaks Portuguese. A lot of her messages to me are mixed language. If she sends me one that starts in English and then ends in Portuguese, then the copied message button performs an english->portuguese translation, which means I get no help from it. It would help to be able to reverse the translation direction so that the part I need translated actually translates..Version: 11.0.2
✓ Lacking Latin American SpanishNot worth purchasing until they fix this. Better to stick with google translate.Version: 12.6.4
✓ NoGoogle translate is better.Version: 14.0.8
✓ Don’t bother. Just use google translateThis app isn’t worth the money. It’s translates poorly and image translation barely works at all. There are better translators out there for FREE.Version: 15.0.17
✓ Crashes on open every timeLike others I've had the app for years and used it a few times on holiday, but as of iOS 12.3.1, iTranslate crashes immediately on open and closes. Now before the developer gives the standard "this is not a bug but a problem on your device" NO IT'S NOT. This is happening with your app and no others. And yes I've deleted and reinstalled 3 times. So how about admitting your software has an issue and you're working to fix it instead of playing pass the blame to the user? Thank you for what has been up until now a useful app. 1 star until it's fixed and I'll revise my rating after..Version: 12.5.4
✓ No way to cancel the free trialI thought this would be good I was going to have somebody have a foreign language working at my house and thought this might be handy and I download the app which meant I was obligated for it did not realize I couldn’t get out of this once I clicked on the free trial And the very same day I contacted through this app and they gave me a list of instructions to do and the fifth one said if none of these work then you’ve already been canceled! But never did get confirmation of this and low and behold they have charged my credit card, so now I have to file a dispute and wait for them and I guess my beef is actually with Apple not with these people but why can’t I reach these people to cancel the order! So unless you want to lifetime subscription or cancel your credit card which I’m gonna have to do,,,Think twice before you hit the button otherwise I think the app is pretty cool.Version: 14.0.6
✓ Beware Automatic monthly billing if taking their Free monthI am sure the app is wonderful but we downloaded it in August whilst on holiday in Spain. Just the regular app, but it popped up with the offer of a month free to Pro (allowing offline use) which we took up. Used the app very little and then deleted. The automatic subscription part seems only to be advised of in the small print link to terms and conditions. I am normally very careful about what I sign up to with subscription payments etc but feel a bit hoodwinked by this one. Why can’t these apps just be absolutely fair and transparent and send you a reminder message “Do you really want to continue with subscription going forward paying £4.99 a month?” And then you can confirm or say no if it isn’t for you..Version: 11.0
✓ Cancel!!!I don’t know how to cancel this?!?! Not user friendly to cancel. Deleting the app doesn’t automatically stop the subscription. No directions at all on how to cancel.Version: 12.3.5
✓ Image to text didn’t work for meI bought a 1 month subscription to this ap to use in Korea. The voice conversion seems to work well, however I found I didn’t really use this feature much. I did want to use the image to text feature, but for Korean text it didn’t work. The conversion produced unreadable text. My friend used Google translate for this and it’s worked seamlessly. I gave 2 stars because it has workable features and I’m sure in other countries it works well, but for me in Korea, useless..Version: 14.2.3
✓ Inaccurate translations!!!!I have been using the desktop and iOS app for over a year, I like it overall. But sometimes translations are completely off so I did a test with 2 of the 5 languages that I speak. Spanish "yo hago" ( I do ) translates to Italian "Lo voglio" ( I want it ) . Italian "io faccio" translates to Spanish "sí" ( yes) . Also English "I do" translates to Spanish "sí" and Italian " Lo voglio" . English " I eat" translates to Italian "mangi ( tu)" ( YOU eat ) and I can keep going. I understand that the app's translation of a sentence could slighty be off as each languages have a way of saying things and expressions/double meanings but come on these examples I've mentioned above are BASIC translations.I don't get it !! iTranslate needs a MAJOR UPDATE or am I the only one experiencing the bug??.Version: 12.1
✓ Bugs and AnnoyingIt’s glitchy and buggy. I use the app a lot. After the most recent updates there are several bugs. For example, when you hit translate it just shows a blank translation below. But you can copy and paste the blank space. Then other times, when you see the translation, if you try to click the translation or copy it, it won’t let you and pushes you to the original English message I had typed. When I emailed the app, they responded by saying they couldn’t replicate the issue and that I needed to update the app. There was no other update, I restarted, uninstalled, re-downloaded etc and still have the same issues. It was buggy on both iPhone 13 and 14 Now every time I use the app, it prompts me for a review. When you hit the (it could be better button) it asks you to contact the app instead of giving a review. It literally spams me every other time I hit translate to give a review after I’ve already responded. It has made me want to throw my phone more than once..Version: 15.0.4
✓ Not too accurate...I may not be fluent in too many languages, though I do know enough to get through small talk. It seems pretty difficult to find a good online translator that can actually distinguish the usage of nouns and conjugations in actual conversation or even just sentence usage. These apps need to reprogrammed by those who are fluent in these languages to properly give those of us still learning a better understanding of how to say what we wish to say. I tested some things I know in languages such as German, Gaelic, Italian, and even Latin to see just how accurate this and other apps are and so far they are to quite a degree incorrect. These apps seem too focused on a literal dictionary translation instead of how the words are actually formed together in a true spoken sentence. I’d like to be able to better use this app to translate phrases and conversation I don’t yet know so hopefully sometime soon the administration of this app catch on to the lack of real life accuracy and fix this..Version: 12.3.5
✓ Stop with the subscriptionAnother app that has gone from incredibly useful to money-grab subscription-based. The features I use to use for free travelling a few years ago - now have to be paid for, which makes sense if it was an actual upgrade, but its the same framework, just with a price tag now. Augmented reality is definitely a great plus and reason for increasing price, but making something that set you apart from the start and was free from the start, now making it a periodic cost, it’s a bit slimy. Sorry guys, switching to Apple’s translate app ☹️ - it does the same + a little more for free now..Version: 13.0.3
✓ Awful service...Tapped what I thought was activation of the trial period but made a payment instead. Immediately emailed about cancellation and a refund. No reply. Deceptive and hidden practise so with that level of integrity avoid at all costs. The app offers less than the free versions from the major suppliers so don’t bother. Would leave a zero but not an option..Version: 12.4.14
✓ Be carefulI downloaded this to try it out whilst looking for a good translator for travelling. I very nearly pressed continue thinking this would allow me to use the app whilst not signing up for any subscription but I remembered another review I’d read and sure enough I very nearly fell into the same trap. Regardless of what the developer says it is not clear enough as to what you are about to agree to and is a clear attempt to capture the unwary whilst still falling on the right side of the rules. I have no idea if it was a good translator or not as I have just deleted it but the 1 star is due to the blatant attempt to fool unwary people into signing up..Version: 12.3.1
✓ Good but...It works well and it’s really simple to use but the annoying part is I can’t translate from the other language. I can translate from English to Dutch but I can’t go from Dutch to English it’s quite frustrating when I’m reading different text and wanting to translate it to English. Maybe I just can’t figure it out. I’m talking about the Apple Watch app but the phone works fine..Version: 12.5.1
✓ Never got to use itI really dislike apps that puts such a huge wall around their features they want you to pay before you get to use them. They make it seem like they are such gold you can’t even taste without paying. People don’t pay until they’re hooked they need to get you hooked on it first. And this apps’ metric for measuring use in order to get you hooked is very weakly implemented. I signed up for the free trial when I downloaded the app so that I could use the features but I did not need them at the time so I never used the app until the trial expired. So in the end I never even tried it one time. That is a really dumb trial. The app needs to measure the use of the app and give you a trial based on actual use not some finite amount of time. Especially when translation is something you use when you need it not just on demand when the app tells you to use it. You don’t have something to translate until you have something you need translated! Bad design when it comes to trial. Focus more on user experience. Sadly I can’t even use the app so what can I do? Uninstall.Version: 12.0.6
✓ TrialsDont try it ....you will get charged for a year automatically trying to get refund for 3days now.Version: 12.8.3
✓ Danish gibberishI don’t know about other languages, but when this app translates between Danish and English it’s often absolute gibberish. Take a common word like ‘upset’. It is translated into ‘materialeforkortelse ved stukning’ which means ‘shortening of material when working with coving’! This is not iTranslate ‘s own translation though. When putting this Danish word into their own app it comes up with ‘Material short for the stopping’ - whatever that means! What the app is good for though is having a complete laugh at how ridiculous it is, by playing this game: put a common word into the translator then keep on pushing the toggle button so it translates back and forth between the 2 languages. When the app finally settles for a translation that goes both ways then ask a friend if they can guess what word you started with in the first place. 9 out of 10 times they will never guess! ‘Upset’ ended up as ‘The materials must stop’ Let try another one: the simple verb ‘can’ = ‘Container to the chemicals collection’ And another: the Danish word for run ‘løbe’ ends up with ‘The island is”. If you put the word ‘run’ in it ends up meaning ‘Brassies’ ????? - Your guess is as good as mine! Absolutely bonkers! So one star for entertainment value, otherwise this app is absolutely useless!.Version: 12.4.5
✓ Scam, forces you into a subscriptionIf you don’t believe me download it, you can’t use anything but the bare minimum of translating by typing it in manually, If you want to use a translator app just use google translate app completely free and has a camera translator function, you have to pay actual money to even use the camera function on this app, heck you can’t do anything but the bare minimum with this the rest of the stuff they force you to do a monthly subscription or do the free trial, that also forces you into a subscription. When you try to use anything but the minimum it brings up a window telling you to pay a 5.99 monthly fee, or do the 7 day free trial with a subscription. It’ll forcefully subscribe you if you do the free trial. But regardless paying for this is pointless when google translate app is completely free and has the camera function. This is just a scam to get as much money as possible which is why they have a subscription system so they can keep taking in money instead of a one time purchase. Basically unless you like spending or losing money for an app you likely won’t use more than 1-2x a month don’t get it. Besides with how accessible the internet and what not is, why would you bother paying for something like this that is literally free everywhere. Anything that has access to the web can be used to get to a translator website. Now try imagine paying $50-$75 a month or year for this?.Version: 13.0.3
✓ I can’t even 🤦🏾♀️🤯Ok, look /listen...When I first got this app I thought it would be amazing and such a big help, and the possibility using it on my Apple Watch was a bonus; I was really looking forward to paying for it after my trial, buuut then I started getting wrong translations all over the place. I want to know who is providing the translations for these words...cause this is nonsense. I’m learning Korean and it kind of defeats the purpose of having a translator app, that provides the WRONG translations a lot of the time; I stopped using google translate for that same reason. I get tired of having to look up the word online just to get the correct meaning, it’s frustrating. When I look up words in the translator I am not typing in American letters, I am typing in 한글 (Hangul), just to make sure that I get the correct translation. I have even provided the corrected translations for some of the words I have looked up through the app, and surprise, surprise they are STILL wrong and haven’t been corrected; why have “wrong?” A feature in the app if you are not going to take advantage of it, and correct what is effectively wrong...SMH. Either way my money will stay in my pocket when it comes to even thinking about purchasing this app 🙅🏾♀️. Move on there’s nothing to see here..Version: 11.0.2
✓ Camera translates into gibberishI got the pro trial to see if it would be at all useful to translate printed Japanese from a page into English. I was not expecting a perfect translation by any means , far from it, but what you get is completely useless gibberish. Also, it does not allow you to first isolate which sentence you wish to translate so you have to wait till it fails miserably, often choking on too much text and just spitting back the Japanese text untranslated. Japanese is written vertically but the focus window cannot be made narrow enough to isolate a single sentence. It struggles translating 2-3 sentences often failing and just repeating the same word many times. After an hour of failures just canceled the trial, not up to the task. I have limited ability to read some Japanese and it was not even succeeding to translate some words and numbers I could recognize. Pathetic..Version: 15.0.11
✓ They have the right ideaIt’s okay, the idea is great but it’s almost like the app is incomplete. It would be good for people who want to learn the languages that they already have on the app but I want to learn 3 languages (Twi, Samoan and Maori). They don’t have Twi or Samoan, at all. They have Maori but they don’t have the voice recordings of the words to help with pronunciation for this particular language. I feel it would be so much better and worth the money if it had a lot more language variety and voice recordings for every language. Unfortunately I will be deleting the app after my free trial as this app does not cater for the languages I would prefer to learn..Version: 12.4
✓ UghI didn’t like this app because it had one feature which you can just access with google and the rest was way to over priced.Version: 13.0.2
✓ Japanese Polite vs Plain FormsIt’s a good app, but as a Japanese student, I speak and write primarily in the “ます“ form, which is polite. However, this app can only accurately translate the plain form of Japanese, making it incredibly difficult to check my sentences before sending emails to professors and mentors in Japan. For example, if I write even the simplest of sentences such as, “私はよくこどもをてつだいます“ it translates to “I often play children”, which isn’t accurate at all. I am simply stating I HELP children (or I will help), but in the polite form using “ます“. This app is perfect for plain form Japanese, but that’s unfortunately not something that I use very often. The vocab is also strange. “みる“ meaning “to watch” translates as “I’ll watch” because, again, the app is assuming I’m using plain form instead of just recognizing it as an un-conjugated verb. Hope these issues can be fixed and there will one day be a feature to switch between plain and polite forms!.Version: 14.2.3
✓ UselessCouldn’t translate a single word on our trip to Italy.Version: 15.1.4
✓ RefundHi, I would like a full refund please, after I downloaded the app, I haven’t got time to use it. Now my bill is coming In already. I don’t think I am use it as much as other people do. I still don’t know how to unsubscribe the app, when tapped on subscriptions it came out with a special offer $1.49 a month, and under it have a manage subscriptions button, but when I tapped on it, it took me to error web site which I can’t do anything there. Can someone help me unsubscribe it, send me a link or something, so I can just tap on the unsubscriptions button, then that would stop the app charging me any money. I deleted the app already after I can’t do anything there..Version: 12.7.11
✓ Doesn’t even work...Only works in French and other languages in Tagalog! Please make more changes cause it’s terrible Do it or get no one !!!!??.Version: 12.3.5
✓ SCAM - DO NOT DOWNLOADThis app uses fine print to scam you into paying for a subscription and makes it extremely difficult to cancel. Developers should be ashamed. Extremely annoyed..Version: 13.0.3
✓ Used to be a great Application...It’s so sad to see how this app has gone downhill when it used to be fantastic. They now charge an exorbitant amount comparatively (4.99 per month), and compared to other services it’s just not worth it. Not only that, but “updates” have mislead many subscribers to sign up for a paid account, when it looks like a normal update, I’m surprised Apple hasn’t put a stop to that? Also, many mistakes in translations can be found, and if you read replies from other users, you will see that this company either expects its users to find and fix its own software issues, and/or rudely denies complaints, and calls people liars. Also, adds that used to be silent banners are now frequent, loud and disruptive; especially when you are trying to concentrate on translating. Also, now that I’ve read how poorly this company has been treating other people with critiques is honestly shocking! I’m not sure if this app is under new ownership or management, but it’s not something I want to rely on with all the incorrect translations, newly added loud commercials and combative and disrespectful treatment of subscribers. After having this app for years, I’m now of to find something better. Too bad..Version: 12.1
✓ Bugs and poor designI have been a $99 subscriber and two months into my second year but am uninstalling and returning to Google Translate. Numerous problems: - offline translation: when selected, automatically clears the text you wrote (but could not translate because you had no internet coverage). Can still find in history but frustrating that simply switching from Online to offline deletes text - deleting text: last two months, randomly clears all the text you are writing (as if you ‘selected all’ then deleted all the text as you typed the next letter) - has not gone despite reinstalling app and even resetting phone - no instant camera translation like Google Translate - constant pop up: every couple of days asks if I love app or want to give feedback. Gave feedback but then still continues to pop up, which is annoying. After the tenth time, the developers should stop pop ups, as this just invites negative reviews.Version: 15.0.8
✓ Terrible, terrible updateUp until the last update this app was quite good, but now the translation from Serbian to English is completely incorrect. After I suspected a couple of translations to be incorrect I tried to test the translator with some basic vocabulary and the results were incoherent at best. Often the result of a basic word translated from Serbian to English would be a made up word that doesn’t exist in the English language or just a random bunch of letters. Please fix!!!.Version: 12.4.5
✓ Not good but alrightThis app looked very good when I downloaded it. And indeed it was too. It had many languages and many variations for example Chinese Mandarin, Taiwan and Cantonese. However the next few days it would become mixed up. Like the whole thing was broken. I would press translate then it would flip and say something completely different and in the wrong place. After that it didn’t help a single bit..Version: 12.6.3
✓ Boring and uselessI have downloaded this game on the Wednesday, and I have tried it on in times on Chinese, and it is not working, I have tried every single word that I could think of at that very moment, but it just came up with the same English words into different language and I even wrote Japanese numbers and translate it to English, but still it didn’t do anything. I hope you can fix it and I hope you can make people pay less. And I am really sick and tired of all the really cool and decorated and interesting games being really expensive, and it makes us not want to play it and even deleted because we can’t do nothing with it except do the things you don’t have to pay for which are mostly boring. Please make at least this game more cooler and cheaper, And I will write a review with five stars for saying how good this game has upgraded and how much I really enjoyed, and lastly what what other bugs I have. Thanks a bundle creators for making this game and if possible, fixing my bugs. Peace out ✌🏼.Version: 12.6.3
✓ Not a good appI canceled the subscription before the trial ended and was charged a full year!! I literally canceled the subscription a few moments after I installed it because I found the photo translation didn’t work well. How can I get my money back?!! I have never had a problem with any other app only this one..Version: 12.8.4
✓ Can be goodWhen you can actually get it to work it’s good, unfortunately 75% of the time I try to use it my screen is taken over by iTranslate trying to get me to sign up for more advanced platforms, I understand that they want to sell me more things to make money, but I only need the basic service and mostly have to give up on using the service because once the offer takes over the screen you can’t get out of it, really frustrating, at least if they gave you the option to decline the offer you could then go back to what you wanted in the first place ,.Version: 13.0.3
✓ Frequently bad translations.Frequently gives a bad, Anastasia or even offensive translations when going from English to Russian and Ukrainian. Often provides gibberish when translating from Russian and Ukrainian to English. Might be good in other languages, but Russian and Ukrainian is not only poor, but a serious problem when offending people you are trying to communicate with..Version: 14.2.3
✓ Cost of the appI like this app as I use it for homework and other things but I can only translate the words, I can not speak the words I am trying to say and if I want to I have to pay money. I don’t find this helpful as on other translation apps you can do these kind of things for free which makes me and others what to go to other translation apps such as Google translate. It would be a much better app and would gather more attention if you didn’t have to pay for most of the things I want to do but over all it’s an ok app.Version: 14.3
✓ Don't waste your timeApp requires you to buy a subscription in order to do anything.Version: 15.1.3
✓ Free version of this app not usefulI tried this app on my old iPad 4. It could only work for typed text. All other aspects of this app requires lots of $ to work. There are lots of free translation apps which work way better with speech and images captured as well as text. As I need for a short time during overseas travel, it's not useful to spend $s for occasional use. Even after recent update, this app is only limited to text translation. Any other option leads to purchasing pro version. I am going to delete this app and recommend not worth trying on IOS 10..Version: 12.7.9
✓ Don’t Subscribed!!Again, like others have said, it is difficult to unsubscribe. They make out like you can unsubscribe by going into your Apple ID but they provide no unsubscribe option only more subscriptions. Such a con!!.Version: 12.3.5
✓ LOVED this app initially & would have paid for it, BUT...Initially this app would have gotten 5 stars. It beat google translate and a tu ally did a decent job translating English to German & vise versa; especially for a free app. But of late the app consistently crashes immediately after is finishes the cycle of translation; and before I have time to even verify it’s accuracy so not sure if it’s still as correct as it used to be I read in a some reviews that it isn’t anymore; i.e. Korean for example, but I wouldn’t know since it keeps crashing. Wrote to Support and will see what happens. Also asked me to upgrade which I strongly considered but not with some of the small print in permissions. Beware that it requires access to any past translations as well & beware that anything you type it paste into it to translate will be accessed by this app; so you might wish to leave out financial or sensitive Information, etc.; like if you’re translating a contract. Also, the premium (paid) version price tag seems rather steep to a lot of the reviewers here as well as to me the way it is organized now. I’d say it’s a bit of “carrot” app; “Lookie what I got here! Okay now come and get it!” ...Once you start chasing it, it eludes you. ... If they make improvements and adjustments, I’ll alter my review, but for I’ll say, sadly, I’d pass!.Version: 12.0.6
✓ Same payment disasterIt looks like I’m not the only one so here is my story. Downloaded this app on a holiday. Felt like giving it a punt and thought even at a cost of £4:99 worth a go. The app was not very intuitive, didn’t really work during conversation and the over all experience was bad. I uninstalled this app. Found out some months later that that I thought was a one off cost was a. Subscription and even after deletion I had been charged monthly for this app. As this was the only app I had ever paid for and had deleted it within a month I took little note of my account as I knew I had not purchased any other apps before and since. When I contacted apple I was politely informed that even though I had been charged for this subscription for 7 months I could only be refined the previous 2 charges and It would take up to 30 days for this refund to be processed. My advice is Stay away from this app - they are not clear on charges Stay away from Apple - not a fan of their phones (this is a company device) / their UI / and ITunes and how they operate. I feel that if they thought about it a tab called “subscription” within the iTunes settings I would have resolved this a lot sooner but there is no indication as to how to cancel these apparent agreement with out being directed their by apple (convenient since I was informed that this is a common mistake made; wander why they haven’t changed how you access this section????) That’s all for now, have fun and by a Samsung.Version: 12.4.1
✓ Not What I ExpectedI downloaded this app because I read that it can be integrated with iMessages so I figured it would make things easier for me to translate languages directly from the iMessage app instead of copying and pasting into a separate translation app or website however, that is not the case. Yes, this app is integrated with iMessages and allows YOUR message to be easily translated within the iMessage app before sending but when someone responds to you in a language you wish to translate you will still have to copy and paste to know what they are saying, and you can do that for free with Google Translate instead of $4.99 a month. Suggestion: It would be better if the app was designed to automatically translate the other person’s text message without having to copy/paste or click on a bunch of buttons that apparently don’t work (the chat bubble button on bottom of keyboard)..Version: 12.2.1
✓ Useless appThis app is very bad at translating even if you speak slowly and it keeps going back to the homepage asking for more money you are better off with Google translate avoid this app like the plague.Version: 12.5.2
✓ -0 starsWould not give me a refund after I accidentally subscribed and asked for it immediately. $100 i couldn’t afford.Version: 15.0.1
✓ Used to love it Now ads are ruining it.Brief review-- This translate app was always fantastic. Little by little my free version has been adding more and more ads. I fully support the need for ads, and usually get the paid version when I can. Tonight was the last straw and I've deleted the app. I'm trying to look up a simple phrase, lying beside my mate, who is fast asleep, and suddenly (without warning or giving me any choice , a LOUD video ad starts blaring. I nearly jumped out of my skin. No more iTranslate for me... It'll have to be Google for me. Sad to have to leave, but I *never* want that to happen again. Update: Developer says more ads isn't true, but... I haven’t tried reinstalling, but I have to tell you that the kicker for me was this: I was using iTranslate while lying up in bed with my partner fast asleep next to me… SUDDENLY and very loud and jarring there was a VIDEO ad… which made me jump out of my skin… and woke my partner. I have NEVER before seen a video ad in your app. Ever. So, you may not have increased the occurrence of ads, but this (video ads) is most definitely new to me - and I’ve had your app for years. Was it just my luck that this never occurred before? And I think you folks need to fix those videos so users have an option to mute. Until I know that this could never happen again, I don’t think I’ll be using iTranslate. It really was rather dramatic..Version: 10.7
✓ Not satisfiedThere are three things that are particularly uncomfortable, so I choose to uninstall: 1. I can't choose to stop it speak out automatically, I don't want to let it speak automatically, but can't change, sometimes it makes me feel embarrassed. 2. There is no history record. After each exit, it will be all blank when you open the app again. 3. On Apple Watch, I can Only translate English to other languages but can’t translate other languages to English. This make the Apple Watch function is equivalent to useless..Version: 12.6.4
✓ Spanish is englishEnglish translates into Spanish in english only with a castillian accent....very funny....but useless.Version: 12.8.4
✓ It will help you get by...Please note, I’m asking a lot from it. American living in Germany and using it in/for a German language course. My wife is German and also a English and German teacher. It’s been pointed out on more than one occasion “that doesn’t mean (xyz) at all...” when using or quoting this app. If you’re using it just to get around for a vacation, sure. Plus (at least in Germany) they’re very polite and (almost) everyone speaks English so they won’t point out this app has missed the mark. If you just want to find a the bathroom or get food and a beer, I’ve used a free app that is a lot better for communicating. (if this is now free absolutely download it, but if not...). Remember I need to know “Wie spät ist es?”- is not - “what time is it” (the app translation) but what it truly says which is “How late is it?” so... For when you’re listening to someone speak or building sentences on your own later you’ll think wie means “what” and spät means time (what/was - time/zeit). It’s not always wrong, but it’s not always 100% right for everyday/conversational usage. If you do download, remember wie may not be what..Version: 12.7.8
✓ Missing a vital ingredientA good translator but missing the mark ...when it translates it should also show the translated message in the original language on screen..this is especially critical for languages that don’t use the English alphabet...For instance when I translate English to Japanese it shows the translated message in Japanese kanji, whereas it should use the English alphabet ...it’s no good to me as I cant read kanji and I suspect many non Japanese can’t either....same for Chinese translations....the translated message needs to be in English so it can be read by the user...otherwise the printed translation is useless..Version: 13.0.3
✓ AVOID - WORST THAN EVER BEFORE!99% of translations are wrong ! And you expect anyone to pay for this?? Lots of times doesn’t even translate anything, it just gives you the same word as the original typed! You asked to get in touch and send you screenshots... After 3 dozens of them sent, I gave up, ‘ cause you never replied and never fixed this app ‘cause you couldn’t care less ! Just updated to latest version and all translators, all of them, doesn’t even attempt to translate - it simply gives the same word result, as the original one imputed :( As per your request, I emailed you dozens of screenshots, but you seemed to ignore all, as you’ve done nothing to improve anything!? To make things even worst, it seems to carry a bug as a lot of times it gives a duplicate result, i.e. - hello hello, lemon lemon, here here... Other times, after typing a word and clicking to Translate, it automatically swaps the languages, I’m trying to translate From & To, so the results are, well, duplicated and so, so wrong!!.Version: 15.0.5
✓ Consistently incorrectI initially thought the app was good but upon translating from English to Thai and then checking by going back to English the translation, literally 9/10 times is wrong and doesn’t make sense. In an earlier reply to somebody with the same issue it mentioned to forward the issue. To do that every time you translate is ridiculous imo. How can you have a conversation when you have to double check everything you write then forward it every time it’s wrong. App needs A LOT of work ! No good.Version: 12.0.6
