SrutiBox for Positive User Reviews

Excellent if you know what it is.This is a great app for anyone serious about overtones and intonation..Version: 1.3

Great App.I really love this app. as a sound source, AMAZING to feed into my DAW and further process, essentially using it like an instrument. 1 small improvement - when moving the different pitches/tones sliders on and off there is some small audible glitch like sounds that come out in all of my recordings.Version: 0

BeautifulThank you for your huge effort to update this greet app!.Version: 1.4.0

WOW...Perfect for creating ambient music....Version: 0

Zen outAs I am interested in using this for meditation purposes I would like to see a save option for different settings. Choose my custom settings such as calming, focusing, etc. Love playing with the different sounds and frequencies. Wonderful app considering I knew nothing about a sruti box..Version: 0

Very coolThis is not, as one reviewer said, a "simple sine wave oscillator", it allows additive synthesis of 12 oscillators. While it may not match the authentic sound of a harmonium, it is in fact very cool. I agree that the sliders are a bit hard to control (it got easier when I found I could tap on the location I want it to go to, rather than trying to drag the button). My other complaint is that the help text is way too small to read; the zoom gesture did make the text larger, but then it was too hard to scroll. I'm only going to 4 stars because it is totally lacking in modulation options..Version: 0

👍👍👍I have been using this app for years. Love it. Dr. Pauline Oliveros?! That’s high praise..Version: 1.4.0

Thank you for the update!Essential app.Version: 1.4.0

Well designed, useful, friendly. What a nice surprise. This is a well designed, useful and friendly little app. Great for practicing, composing, daydreaming. If you've ever used a real sruti box you'll be pleased to find here a variety of reed timbers and tunings plus the random detune feature. Fantastic job, Mr. Lowengard. What else can you drum up?.Version: 0

AwesomeThank you for this app! Please continue to support it. I love using it at gigs as a backup drone, and I'd love to see added functionality. Maybe a stereo reverb setting to amp up the room wetness?.Version: 0

Awesome..Thanks!Tune in..turn on...bliss out...! Love it!.Version: 0

Ugly Box, Sweet FillingI bought this after listening to the audio examples on the developer's site; it makes a surprising variety of timbres, and with the Churn feature, you can crossfade between any two for an animated sound. It's a lot deeper and sweeter-sounding than it appears from the drab Formica interface. I'm enjoying exploring alternate tunings and learning how harmonics layer to form chords and textures. I don't like the clicks you hear when changing some settings, and I told the developer an echo effect would make the drones even spacier, but he replied that would detract from the authenticity. (Bonus points for responding at length to my emailed suggestions!) He also said he'll be concentrating on his Droneo app, so I'll probably buy that next..Version: 0

Fantastic!I love this simple to use drone device! Great sound! Highly recommended..Version: 1.3

Fantastic drone appThis is a great sounding and feature packed app. I am a just intonation enthusiast and i love the amazing amount of flexibility allowed in specifying intervals and timbres. Very useful and unique. My first app review-- just had to say something about this one..Version: 1.3

Pretty coolDidn't really know what is was, but once I figured it out it was pretty cool. I enjoy music but it's not like a piano or guitar. It makes differnt noises which comes across relaxing..Version: 0

Great Idea - Great BuyI'm happy someone thought of this. The sound is not very authentic, but the idea is right on. I usually use a raagini (electric tanpura) to provide a drone. This definitely doesn't have the same sound quality, but the developer is already thinking about this based on the update plans. This is also about 1/100 of the price, so that said - it's amazing. Get it if you want to drone out blissfuly (albeit digitally)..Version: 0

Never thought I'd see something like this on the iPhone!Simply brilliant, unlikely to appear on any official "most favourite app" list, but brilliant nonetheless! Great new update with basically all the features I wanted without even telling anyone. The developer must be psychic too! :-).Version: 0

Personalized Hyptonic DronesI love this app! The interface allows you to easily layers different tones, timbres, pitches, and frequencies. If you are a fan of ambient drones, you must get this....Version: 0

Very CoolIf you know music theory, you can have a ball with this. I was originally looking for something that could emulate a Tanbura. This gets close, with the right scale, but it could use a preset voice for the Tanbura, and something to distort the waveform to get it to sound like a Tanbura drone. I realize that it wasn't intended for that, it is a SrutiBox simulator, but it seems like it wouldn't take much to add the Tanbura, and it would make it much more useful (at least for me). Still, think it is a great app..Version: 0

Cool sound, easy to use.As a wanna-be enlightened zen master I am drawn to anything that brings me closer to oneness. With this app I can create a sound which helps induce in me a calmness rarely experienced. A teacher once told me to take 5 minutes at the beginning of each hour to do 'nothing.' With my custom background drone I am that much more in control of my mental state, which is simultaneously chilled and activated. I'm glad I got this..Version: 0

I Dig ItIts fun to have something like this if only to manipulate interval and chord tones against each other on your ipod at your convenience. I think the haters that are whining about the 3 bucks and I should have used logic and all of that are missing the point completely. The sounds are soothing and pleasant enough even if they are not totally authentic, and kind of remind me of some of the non-westernized pedal tone drones used on some of the recordings I have from people such as Ustad Bismillah Khan..Version: 0

Quirky, But Enjoyable ProgramSadly it seems Mr. Lowengard is focusing on Droneo, but the srutibox is fun and *CAN* sound wonderful, if you're willing to play with the settings. I use a variety of noisemakers at night to help me get to sleep, and the problem with most of them is that they offer only a limited set of preprogrammed sounds. I enjoy the variety and customization that srutibox provides. Although a built-in sleep timer would be wonderful, you can use your ipod/iphone timer instead. Get this if you like drones and aren't afraid to fiddle and knobificate!.Version: 1.3

Amazing App.Thank you so much for Sruti Box. In addition to being able to adjust notes from the harmonic series, it also gives you the ability to play notes in a variety of tunings, as well as create your own! An amazing instrument and learning tool for musicians of any level! -michael Uhler.Version: 0

Very impressedOnly had it an hour and I've already found a use for it. I can see there's quite a lot of scope to delve into as well. This is definitely one for people who like experimental music, however, it can be used effectively in a subtle way to add a bit of depth or undercurrent to strings, for example. The sound is good and the layout is nice and user friendly . There are music apps that offer much more singing and dancing, but this one goes a bit deeper. Well done!.Version: 1.3

Dronetastic! If any iPhone app is going to make it on to the next Nurse with Wound recording, it'll be this! ;-) SrutiBox is NOT for the fainthearted. Don't buy this app if you like R&B, boy bands, or naff pop Muzak (unless of course, you're on acid!) SrutiBox is like having Ligetti in your pocket, ie a truly weird sound creation app. Therefore SrutiBox comes highly recommended!.Version: 0

Drone manLove this app, wish I could save my patches though..Version: 0

Great, relaxing soundsReally fun app, very soothing sounds.. Can be stretched and detuned to make some less soothing more forboding sounds as well.. Really great little noise machine. It's great to play along to the drone on another instrument. It is a very mesmerizing and relaxing sound generator and I'm very happy I have it. Thanks!.Version: 0

Totally coolYou have to have a little theory & program it, but you can make WONDERFUL SOUNDS with this thing!.Version: 1.3

Deep, enlightening - and useful!I'm a singer and really just wanted a drone box for practicing but although this can do this (in its sleep) it's led me somewhere else! I also sing in a Bulgarian choir and so the subtle dissonance this can create is fascinating. You can sing over the top and it may hint at atonal or quarter-tone possibilities... Still a long way from knowing my way around but if you're into sound and exploring it, I'd recommend it..Version: 0

Very cool appI love the sound it makes and I'm definately going to use it live at an improv gig next weekend. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it's next to impossible to control 2 sliders at once because they're so small. I should note that i have big fingers; someone with smaller ones might not have that problem. So I have a feature request: please add a button to hide the top controls and expand the width of the sliders to fill the extra space..Version: 0
