HanDBase Database Manager for Positive User Reviews

Nice databaseThis app has an intuitive feel and is well blessed with features. I am transferring my Access databases onto Handbase because of the convenience and portability. Handbase cannot be as sophisticated as Access but it does a very good job. It would be nice to see colour options in records or fields in Handbase to aid information indentification..Version: 0

Works, Stable, Supported, Good ValueI've been using HanDBase on my iPad and iPhone for 3 years now. Tonight I had an issue, logged it on the forum and had a solution in a few hours. I had forgotten how good the support is. HanDBase isn't perfect but it is very, very, very good and meets 95% of my needs. Thanks DDH and the community. Have a great day..Version: 4.9.063

Really usefulI find this a great app. I'm looking forward to the Mac desktop companion being finished that will allow proper synchronisation. I'd also like to be able to link to the inbuilt contacts as I don't want to duplicate that information. Overall though it's a good database with proper relationships between tables, which I can't see that any of the competitors have..Version: 0

Long time userI started using this on a Palm Pilot in 2001, and it has been serving me well since. To my mind, its biggest limitation is that it does not understand SQL. I just downloaded the Forms tool, and am still figuring that out..Version: 4.9.079

Great utility, while alone in the fieldThere are plenty of db apps but I not found anything to match. Easy to create personal db. Easy to make and edit entries. Easy to design data entry screens. I’ve tried to find competitors that are available in both iOS and Windows, web or client based. Nothing as straightforward and functional as this. I love that the software is client-based, though, not web-based. I use gigabit internet day and night for work and home, but I only loose with a browser-based app..Version: 4.9.084

Good Database Product. This is a good database product. Most of the function I was looking for. Would have liked bulk update of selected records. Upload of CSV via WEBDAV only allows for adding records and not replacing existing records. Otherwise very good..Version: 0

Why HanDBase ???I have been using HanDBase since it came out on the Palm that was sometime ago but as I moved up with the latest tech, iPhone, the apps I built then I am still using. For collecting data in the field and then moving it to a spreadsheet or database it cannot be beat. Has lots of options for multi users updating the same DB. There is nothing out there like it. Worth every cent..Version: 4.75

Still The BestThis has always been, and still is the very best database program out there. It has a long history and hopefully a long future because many users still rely on it!!!.Version: 4.9.086

10+ years And counting!I can’t remember how many years I’ve been using HanDBase, but it’s probably closer to 15 years and I am so glad that they have continued support as I have use these databases extensively in my home life and my business. The ability to synchronize and back up your data bases with Wi-Fi is fantastic and I believe handy base was probably one of the very first to do so. My only complaint is that if you forget your encryption key you may not be able to recover the database..Version: 4.9.075

It works!Thank goodness for a dbase that works and doesn't restrict you to templates like Patients like other apps. I created my target dbase in minutes and I do like the pulldown content whilst allowing freeform too. I hope I don't suffer the issues others seem to have experienced, but for me this program is a stinker!.Version: 0

Exactly what I was looking for!I had a similar app for my Palm for many years and was glad to see it was ported to the iPhone. I use it to track billable time for my customers, export to Acces and generate my reports that I need to invoice with. Excellent app! Can't live without it!.Version: 4.7.4

Search neededThis is a really great app! I use it many times in a day! I keep a record of all my customer orders. One thing I could really use, is a "main" search on the home screen. I need to be able to search in ALL the folders/databases for key words, to find info on something particular. I can currently search within the folder, for info, but I want to be able to have a broader search if ALL the folders - from the "HOME" screen..Version: 0

Does what I need - converts Excel data to the iPhoneThe small importing company I work with uses QuickBooks to maintain their inventory records. Rather than sending me the whole QB database, as a quick 'n dirty solution, the main office sends me daily stock updates in Excel format. Normally, I am at my desktop, so the 10 X 3100 cell spreadsheet is no problem. However, it would be handy to have this information along with me when I occasionally travel. Up to this point, I have never had a solution to effectively access the inventory data when away from the desktop. Although, I tried using Google docs, Zoho and GridEdit as repositories, the lag time between searching and viewing on the iPhone was a deal breaker. Enter HanDBase - after exporting the Excel spreadsheet into CSV format, I uploaded the results into HanDBase on the iPhone. It was easy and intuitive. The search and find was lighting fast. Finally, I have a way to actually get and use data with the iPhone platform. The next step will be to design a suitable form for the database, so the onscreen data will be easier to read. One step at a time. Overall, this is an impressive, inexpensive solution for my application. I have had no stability problems with my limited use of the program..Version: 0

Best iPhone App...PERIODIf you're just an average "joe" like me, not a database guru, you'll find this to be positively the best app (in any category) iTunes offers. Yeah, there are things FileMaker and other powerhouse DB can do that this doesn't. But for me, and probably many of you, I didn't know ANY database program did those things until I read some of the reviews of this app. With few exceptions, most of the apps available are little more than toys. This app has filled a critical void for me. I can now take any Excel spreadsheet I use at work, and I have a ton of them, save it as a .csv file on my Mac (yes the desktop version works on the Mac) and create a database that is on my desktop AND MY IPHONE. I have wowed by coworkers and boss with the knowledge I have on the tip of my tongue (actually my fingers...but they don't need to know). Seriously, while I'm sure there are things missing for a database veteran, I'm still amazed at what I can do with this app. Forget about the reviews saying it crashes. I had the same problem early on that has been fixed. I have several databases with hundreds (close to 1,000) entries, and each entry has up to 20 fields, and other than the occassion hiccup, it works flawlessly. I will be replacing so many apps I can't even count. I'll no longer need 9 pages on my iPhone..Version: 0

Nice update display-wiseThe new Retina toolbar icons and checkbox are well appreciated. Now could you correct the bug where all the toolbar icons are stuck in the lower-left corner during the rotating animation while browsing from one entry to the next?.Version: 4.8.711

The best iPhone databaseYou can easily create almost any list or database on the iPhone to be customised just the way you want so buy this instead of all those one-off list Apps. Back up to PC & import to other i-device. Create an iPhone database easily from a CSV spreadsheet. Makes a database with 100 fields but displays in a big long list like the early Palm version - wide spacing of fields adds to the page length - works way better than Palm due to excellent scrolling on the iPhone. Would like to see a tabbed page view to reduce scrolling on 50+ field databases.Version: 4.8.61

Great app even better with formsThis is a really good app. Has all the functions you need to build your own database on iPhone. Now forms make it v easy to customize completely..Version: 4.75

Good affordI like this App by it lacks Functions and Operators that I was hoping for and calculations on Time and Date fields are inaccurate but I find the App useful for some things so I give the 4 stars..Version: 4.9.073

No issuesI'm on iOS 10.3.3 and current version works great. Thanks.Version: 4.9.075

Just gets betterWhat a great app, so many cool features and the best app I have brought for my iPhone. It does so much. Also got the HanDBase Plus for iPhone app which really makes this a powerful database for my Mac also, the support from DDH is excellent too. Highly recommended. ****After my last review, version 4.3.0 has come out, and the ability to copy and move records is just so cool and really useful. This is still my favourite app on the iPhone, nothing else even comes close!.Version: 0

Awesome little DB programI use it for work and have created lots of interrelated DBs. While some functionality is missing I could not be more happy with the support I have received to the numerous questions I have asked..Version: 4.7.4

Awesome Great AppI've been using HanDBase now for over 2 years, ever since my trusty Palm TX died. This app gets used every single day and I would be lost without it. Porting DBs over from Smartlist To Go was easier than I could have imagined and the new HanDBase DBs only needed slight tweaking to be up and running smoothly. Creating new HanDBase DBs is easy and fill a multitude of needs. On-line documentation is very good, and the Customer Support is SUPERB. Questions are answered promptly and succintly. The only time HanDBase wouldn't do what I wanted it to do, was not the app's fault, but my own. So, I can say that in the year I've had it, never had a problem with the app per se. For anyone who needs an app to keep track of DBs, then THIS is the app to get. There is also a Desktop Companion and the syncing between the two has never given me a problem. I am comfortable knowing that should either the iTouch, or the Desktop crash, then there is a reliable backup of all my important DBs that I can access without problem. There have been many many updates since I first reviewed this app over a year ago...and the app just keeps getting better and better. Again, Awesome app and Wonderful Support.Version: 4.8.6

The best database for iPhoneThis has been a life savior for the 12 years. I used it daily for my business. It is reliable, easy to learn and to use. Highly recommend.Version: 4.9.074

The best iPhone data baseI've tried , tap forms and bento, which I also have on my laptop but none of them compare to handbase. When you strip away the pretty graphic icons of the other 2 you have basic list making apps and nothing more, no calculations or relational fields, very basic. Handbase has no pretty icons or cover flow and they could definately do with employing a graphic designer. I'd love to see a few other improvements like the ability to design forms , email csv and totals in list view also. This is the only serious data base app on the iPhone..Version: 0

I really like it !I use this product sinse 1,5 years, and i'ts very powerfull.... but.... I really need a filter view when i use a DB popup to limit the selectable field on an another table. For example: 3 tables. first - billing, seconde - customers, third - equipement. Each customer have one or more equipement. When I create a new billing record, with a DBpopup field, I can choose the customer. Then with another DBpopup field, I want to view ONLY customer's equipement. Not all the records !!! (about 800 equipements and 200 customers). The barcode scanner is wonderfull and the reste of the app is too much ! :-).Version: 4.8.0

Very cool and easy to useI am extremely impressed with this app. Easy to learn and very powerful..Version: 4.7.4

HandBAse Database is great on IphoneExcellent database for the Iphone & I believe for other phones too. Easy to create your own databases from templates or from scratch - I have created several that I use regularly. Good options for choosing type of field recods in database and for controls on how displayed and can share database between different databases. Good filters eg forward and reverse view of data and reporting function on your data. Good for personal or business use & can be exported to Access. I like that I can input data on the fly when I remember something specific for my database applications. You can also create separate dataviews and switch between them with ease and plenty of field types I consider this application essential. Hope this review helps.Version: 4.8.2

Finally!I have been waiting for this App with great anticipation! DDH have done a great job in porting this Palm must have App to the iPhone/ipod touch. Very pleased to now have a configurable DB program at a very reasonable price point compared to other offerings with free downloadable and modifiable templates also available. Love the ability to link databases as well making a very powerful little App which has cross platform compatibility and ability to integrate with other DB programs via CSV exported files. Also like their WiFi based direct sync interface to Mac/PC where I have been able to import my old palm databases and can export CSV files and iPod created databases directly to desktop. Only thing stopping 5 stars are 1 Current absence of configurable forms 2 purchase required for desktop software should a desktop interface be needed to view and modify databases on a PC/mac (though not essential) 3 current absence of a loyalty program that DDH is well know for providing for other platforms Well done DdH and thanks! Dr Ashley Ng.Version: 0

Excellent, easy & reliableHaving used this for years on a Palm T|X it works better on the iPhone. You do need the latest appropriate desktop software for syncing. Works a treat with well over 2000 records so far. On the level I'm at it's easy to use..Version: 4.7.4

ExcellentCreate virtually any database app you like including links to other databases with HanDBase. This is the most powerful app on your phone or iPad. Forms can be take a bout of time to line up & look right, but this is the same for other desktop database forms..Version: 4.9.079

Great to have one of my favorite apps back!I'm a long-time user of HanDBase on the Palm OS and am thrilled this fantasic app is finally available for iPhone. I've been moving all of my old databases over with the wireless desktop connect, and they seem to be working great so far. Thank you, DDH! Note that this first iPhone version is not as fully featured as the Palm version, however. For example, I am used to beaming databases directly to my wife's PDA, duplicating databases, and copying records from one database to another. Some of these existing features will probably make future versions, while I may need to find workarounds for the others. I may need to do some DB manipulation on the desktop and then transfer the DBs back to the iPhone. I would also like to see better use of horizontal mode, maybe allow us to define a new view and have it switch automatically when we tilt our phone. That would allow us control over whether we want to see wider columns vs. more columns in horizontal mode. Finally, the app needs a bit more polish. It doesn't feel quite as elegant as it did on the Palm. Still this a great first effort, and I am very happy to have all of my DBs back in my pocket where they belong!.Version: 0

Not a bad app at allIt's very easy to set up databases. I use the app to track various activities, and particularly like the facility to link databases via pop-up fields. Have not experienced any problems at all with the app, but now find that for one strange reason I am unable to synch with the desktop version..Version: 4.8.5

On my essential apps listI've been using HanDBase for years, for all sorts of list and data. I had a pretty thorough trawl through the App Store and I can't find anything that approaches it for functionality. With the forms designer, you could create a whole, interrelated set of lists and databases and almost never go into another app again for notes, lists, passwords, etc, etc. Another reviewer wished it could sync with databases on their PC - well actually it’s easy to transfer, convert and syncs updates with PC databases, so no problem with that! I’m excited to see the update, including Touch and Face ID for accessing encrypted databases. Overall, as the only full relational database app I can find, I can’t understand why it isn’t ever featured in the top lists on the App Store..Version: 4.9.074

Instructions for backup to iCloudI have been using this app on an iPhone, without making backups of the files -- not a good idea. I finally discovered how to backup HanDBase files to the iCloud: 1. tap on the three dots to the right of the file name. 2. tap on "Open in" 3. select (tap on) "HanDBase file" 4. scroll down to "save to files" 5. tap on "save to files" 6. the file name and destination are automatically selected; you can change them by tapping and editing. If needed, new folders can be added by tapping on the "+folder" icon..Version: 4.9.084

Very Powerful DB ApplicationI don't have a great deal of experience with data base applications, but this one certainly does everything I can think of ever needing. Since it allows distinct passwords for each data base, I use it to store sensitive information as well as for managing general data of all sorts. I have three complaints, however, two minor, one middling, and none major. First (minor), I much preferred the "rolodex" date selection over the month-view calendar approach. Second (minor), I find it quite annoying that HDB will not start up in the category-view mode. It always starts up showing all data bases in a single large catalog. Third (middling), the user can adjust almost any aspect of a data base (very, very nice), but accessing the adjustments is extremely awkward, non-intuitive, needlessly difficult; you get the point. Once the user learns how to access all the necessary information, it works great, but it's still more trouble than it should be. (I wonder if this is an artifact of porting HDB from Palm to iPhone/iPod.) Nevertheless, it is a great application, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone..Version: 0

Requested Features for ImprovementI have a few suggestions which can turn it into a better product. 1) ability to move across horizontally to view the entire record, even with 100% field width. 2) optional row id / number (may be as a field type. Please refer to application "List Master" which is available on App Store. It will really make it easy to scroll up & down the records visually. 3) Optional feature: View Record screen. Implement it as done by "List Master". I really feel the absence of these requested features as I come from RDBMS background. In case of positive response from the developer, I will contribute with more feedback. I believe if developer can manage these requested feutres, it will become even a better product and will be a clear winner..Version: 4.8.61

The best application on iPhoneI love HanDBase. I am a general foreman at a construction site, and I have to keep track of lots of things. Daily site reports, total hours for each worker, total hours for each job in big project, and total hours for the whole project. I have to keep track of rental equipments, start date end date which jobs worked on and for how long. I have to keep track of Purchase orders, for rental and site supplies, and keep track of all the invoices for each PO. I have to keep track of materials delivery, delivery date, from which company, for which job. Now with HanDBase i document all records in couple minutes, and I retrieve any info in seconds. That would have been impossible without HanDBase. I am just upset that I didn't know that it did exist till recently. Bottom line if you want to create your own database on the go and use it on the go, this is the app for you. Special thank you to all people who worked on HanDBase and made it what it is now.Version: 4.7.4

First class supportI have been using HanDbase for a year now and have been very happy with it. For some reason (probably my user error) there was a glitch and a slight synchronisation problem with one of the databases and I emailed their tech support. They were very quick to reply and sorted the problem out effectively. First class service!!!.Version: 4.8.61

Good but ...I've been using this app for years and it ticks all the boxes BUT would be much better if it synced with my PC.Version: 4.9.073

Great UdateLove this app. Use it everyday..Version: 4.9.074

Actually pretty goodVery flexible database. Has some crashing issues though. Could do with more export-to-email options and standard fields which work with iPhone such as email, phone number, address etc. Very very promising. Money well spent..Version: 0

At last, a real database for the iPhone and for Palm convertsThis latest release is a major step for HanDBase; it greatly improves the user interface. I've used HanDBase on 4 generations of Palm handhelds. It owns my most important data from the past 10 years, and WAS one of the two reasons I still carry a Palm along with my iPhone (the other is DateBk6, but that's off-topic). Now that HanDBase is available on the iPhone I'm one step closer to ditching the Palm. It seems to work as well as it did on the Palm. It syncs with the desktop version seamlessly (true sync, record by record); through the desktop I was able to import my Palm databases; it syncs with MS Access and with Excel. What more could I want? Well, the forms editor available on the Palm. But DDH has been very responsive and aware of user expectations, so I anticipate that soon also. I rarely use it, so I don't miss it all that much. Folks, this is a REAL database, not just a collection of independent tables. It's the Real Thing. It's a bargain at the app store price, and can be used standalone and will still sync to a computer. There's an optional desktop component available from the author's web site that integrates the iPhone databases seamlessly with the HanDBase Desktop (at least on PCs; Mac to come). If you need a database, this is it..Version: 0

ICloudNeeds Ability to Save Files on iCloud & access them via Web App.Version: 4.9.079

Superb, very usefulThere is a learning curve but it is well worth it. Frankly unless you, yourself are an iOS programmer there is nothing better available. Period!.Version: 4.9.073

How To Transfer from Palm PDA DbasesIts not apparent from the HanDBase website how easy this is! When you download the app from itunes store and open the app, there is an icon in bottom right hand corner press to desktop connect. Make sure WiFi is turned on. The iphone screen tells you to go to an IP address in your browser. When you go there a connection is established between the Handbase desktop application you have on the computer and the iphone. You see a list of the existing databases and on the right side of the screen buttons to upload existing handbase databases. Use browse to select ( usually in Programme Files/Palm/PalmI/HanDBase/). Click on "open file" the "add database" and hey presto it will appear in your iPhone database. Contents transferred successfully for me. Brilliant!!!.Version: 0

Great App, works a treatI have been waiting for this app since buying my iPhone so I can finally pension off my Sony Clie (Palm OS) which has been running my surgical logbook HanDBase database for the last 4 years. Ported the logbook database from the Clie and all working great. Works well with the iPhone interface and no downsides so far..Version: 0

It's working WellI've used this for many years on Palm and am really pleased by the port. I have hundreds of existing databases with all sorts of purposes. It's very easy to use. For a long time, I was getting nowhere with synching - all sorts of problems. Then through email support, I got on to Brian Houghton. Everything was easy with him. It took a series of emails to eliminate the problems one by one and each time Brian was patient, polite, helpful and extremely clear in his instructions. I have some ideas for improvement but that's only icing on the cake. I'm generally very happy with it and use it several times daily..Version: 4.9.05

Customer supportI have been using Handbase for few months now. Works great. However during an update, a sample form was introduced (locker form) and some of my data was not visible. I have contacted the support team and quickly, my problem was solved. Very efficient and knowledgeable. Thanks!.Version: 4.7.7

ReviewerMost awesome App. I run my entire business of 10 employees off it!.Version: 4.9.075

Simple & sophisticatedI find it powerful AND easy to use. It replaces numerous “single purpose“ apps I would need without it..Version: 4.9.074

Now crashesI've used Handbase for many years being my go to ap. But now the new version crashes on opening a database...!.Version: 4.9.074

I’ve been using this app since 15+ years agoI just want to say that I’ve been using your software since the PalmOS era. It is one of the first thing that I’ll download whenever I change my devices. I’m just so glad that you still continue to support and improve your software even after so many years. Cheers.Version: 4.9.075

A really useful appAfter buying a number of different Notes type apps to hold my various data and getting frustrated because data was spread over several apps, finding HanDBase has been a blessing - now I have an app that links together all my various data to make useful tables that are customized and easy to search. Creating a basic database is easy. Creating more complex databases took a bit of figuring - with the help of the on-line tutorials and looking at the many of free templates, I have now created some really effective reports for keeping track of my clients and accessing the data I need to do my job..Version: 0

AmazingI've been using HanDBase for about three years now. It is by far my favourite program to use. I am a music teacher at a school where I teach music to 350+ students and have to keep track of them all. HanDBase does all the work for me and I can't imagine going through a year without it. It allows me to keep track of a ton of information on each student and then to filter and sort in every way imaginable. I just purchased my iphone and was highly impressed with the design of HanDBase for iphone. It is even easier to use on the iphone that on the desktop. Well done. By the way when I had a slight problem with the syncing, I received an immediate response after sending an email and the problem was solved. Great customer service!.Version: 0

Long Time User - Very SatisfiedI've used HanDBase on the Palm OS, Windows Mobile and now IOS. It's one of my most useful apps. The forms designer takes this app to the next level. It's easy to use and allows customised data entry and display. Great app, highly recommended..Version: 4.9.061

Does the job wellBeing about the only database app with 'relational' functionality for the iPhone sets it apart immediately. Interface is simple. Web site is helpful for ideas on database design. Great that images can be added via the camera or selected from existing pics in the gallery. The mac desktop version doesn't seem to receive a copy of these images during sync. Nor does the sync seem to preserve links between 'tables/databases. The home screen looks clunky - I'd forget the filing cabinet concept and load up a buch of nice icons instead. Customisable forms please. Would also love to see it be able to link to the iPhone's address book (as Bento does) to save doubling up on contact info. This alone would be worth the fifth star. Would also be handy if the app came with a simple pdf file (or similar) briefly defining the field types to save going to the web site repeatedly. Good work folks..Version: 0

HanDBase - Don't leave home without it!The possibilities for this application are endless and I would really recommend that you try it out. There is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to the more complex databases but its well worth the effort. In May 2000 I purchased a little program called ThinkingBytes. I was devastated when it was taken over by HanDBase because I was really happy with the original. My short sighted view was 'ok they are going to improve it and probably really mess it up to the point where I would be searching for something similar to use'. That did not happen. Since being taken over by HanDBase they have improved it, improved their improvements, fixed bugs along the way and all in a very timely manner. The forum website has loads of help and if you post a question there IT ACTUALLY GETS ANSWERED what a novel idea eh? This is a phenomenal application that is easy to use and has endless capabilities when you start digging into it. I keep all our movies, mileage, medications, expenses for work, CD's, books, family tree information... the list is endless. I even have a database that I'm building right now that converts Anchor floss to DMC floss by accessing another database. Thank you HanDBase for you excellent support, great application and speedy fixes that we hardly have time to complain about because you are on top of it all the time!.Version: 0

BrilliantWorks well, easy to use.Version: 4.9.084

Needs notificationsWould like to see ability to add notifications for individual data bases. A database that keeps track of bills could notify you when one was due. Would also like to sync the databases between devices via cloud. Otherwise very useful app.Version: 4.9.084

Excellent supportI had a problem in synching my databases across my iPhone, iPad and Windows 7 desktop so contacted DDH support via their web site. I got a reply the same day that clearly understood my problem and explained in straightforward terms how to set things up to do what I wanted. The suggested solution worked perfectly. Overall an excellent experience (and I can't say that about many support services!).Version: 4.8.5

Absolutely #1 Database App.I have been having fun using this app recently, if you have ever tried any other desktop database apps like MS-Access and now looking for a mobile database app, HanDBase is the one. If you really want to learn its features in details it will take you a couple of days, and it is worth it. You can check out its 80 page Users Guide on their website before buying it. I have tested its filtering and sorting performance by a 10000 record database, it was impressive. Here are a summary of its best advantages in my opinion: 1) Relational Database features (master/child data entry, lookup field from another DB) 2) Calculated fields and Reports - nice job 3) Multi-column list view 4) Flexible Security and Encryption options 5) Fast upload from desktop to device (10000 record CSV file in less than a minute) 6) Ability to email out the whole database or some records, also merge and synchronize changes from different copies of a database together using its wireless desktop connect. 7) Good looking and well designed user interface I can not give it less than 5 stars!.Version: 0

Worth the waitOne of the reasons for getting the iPhone was this app, having relied upon it on Palm. Interface brilliant, but it suffers from three shortfalls a)the lack of copy/paste which is coming on iPhone software update, b)inability to move between entries without closing/opening (how about the old +/-?). C)How about a "find again" button WITHIN the advanced search, instead of having to go thru that menu to "repeat search" Otherwise, performing well..Version: 0

Very good databaseA very versatile database app..Version: 4.9.079

Great beta, just don't make any changes to fields...Thinking this would make my transition from the Palm platform complete, I've been sorely disappointed. As I see this as a beta release I've cut them some slack, but when I discovered that a change to the database structure (add a field, change type etc.) would cause all of my newly entered data to be lost on a sync it was time to shelve this for now. A lot of things can be forgiven, but data loss isn't one of them. Here's hoping they get this squared away, as only carrying one device would be most convenient..Version: 0

Great database (4.7.4)HanDbase is really easy to use and has a good array of functions. It links well to my PC laptop via wifi. Regularly updated. Keep up the good work..Version: 4.7.4

Best out thereI've used Handbase on a Pocket PC for some time now. Now that it is available on iTouch I very happy. Works great, has all the features of a relational DB needed on a handheld device. I agree the new selection screen is stupid and wastes valuable realestate. Next feature is forms I hope. Keep up the great work..Version: 0

Good multi-purpose dbaseI've been using Handbase since the PalmOS days. Still does a good job with lists and records..Version: 4.9.086

Hans PennerI bought HanDBase about two months ago. I had used Smartlist to Go for many years. Initially I had to learn to do things somewhat differently compared to Smartlist. After that I just came to love this app. When I did have question, I always received a response to my emailed question within a day. If it were not for HanDBase, I do not think I would bother having an iTouch. Definitely worth the money..Version: 0

Essential appThere is still no other relational database app for smartphones that comes close. Syncing works fine with wi-fi and optional desktop software, but could be improved with iCloud or Dropbox integration. Could use some new applets (user solutions) in the HandBase gallery. Looking forward to a rewrite of the desktop version: perhaps an app for Mac OS with built-in forms designer? Great customer support..Version: 4.9.03

Top quality data baseI’ve had it numerous iPhones and iPads over many years and still use today without any issues whatever. It deserves this 5 star rating..Version: 4.9.079

Great Concept and Spectacular ValueI have never used Handbase before; though I knew existed; and I've been looking for a database app for the iPhone. I'm glad this system came along, because the other "entries" in this category were very limited. This application allows you to create a multi-table database with each table consisting of up to 100 fields and has 18 types of fields. You can even create relationships between those tables. Say good bye to those $1, $2, $3 applications that maintain your passwords, expenses, time entries, etc. Since this application has existed already on other platforms, you can take advantage of the hundreds of databases already created and ready for you to use! And if one doesn't fit the bill, you can make your own database right on the iPhone (or iTouch in my case). And if you need to get that data off of you phone and put it into Excel? No problem it has a built-in webhost and allow you to upload your database or download your data. Can I give this thing 6 stars? It's polished. It works. It has an amazing number of features, and all for an app valued at just $10. It's a steal. Get it now. Hurry, before they change their mind and charge what it is really worth!.Version: 0

Works well, but a few gripesThis works well and is surprisingly sophisticated. Importing databases (on a Mac) is a little complicated but worked without any problems: 1. export your existing database as a tab-separated text file 2. add the field-names (with tabs) as the first line of this text file 3. download and install the Desktop AddOn from the Handbase website ($10 but you can download a 30-day trial) 4. import the text file into the Desktop application (remember to check the option about field names); save this file with a .pdb extension 5. go to the Handbase iphone application and click the desktop connect icon 6. in your internet browser, connect to the same IP address shown on your iphone 7. then upload your Handbase database However, I noticed a few problems. 1. Quotation marks are stripped out (even if you use tab-separated files). 2. There seems to be a limit on the length of any single text/note field of about 650 characters; any more than that, and the text is cut-off. 3. When viewing a record with a text/note field that is more than 250 characters, the only way to view all of this field is to go through to edit record..Version: 0

My PDA Life is completeMy switch from the Palm platform is complete. This software was a foundation in my PDA life and I can now stop carrying my palm on the side. Real Time data acquisition at a very reasonable price is now available. There are MANY templates available for download after a decade of polishing a fine application. The iPhone implementation has been yet another seamless transition. Great Job and Thank You so much to DDH. btw I have nothing to do with DDH I am just a person who uses the software on the palm platform and now on the iPhone..Version: 0

Great potential - not quite therePowerful database. Few bugs to work through - crashes a lot at the moment. Would like to see a date format option or better still for it to take notice of iPhone's preferences. Good UI..Version: 0

MagnificentHanDBase is simply superb. I have tried various db apps but this is the killer app which provides every db solution you could need. It is easy to use and extraordinarily powerful. It helps to be familiar with dbs. Might be harder for people who don't understand db principles. A good desktop application to sync to was a requirement for me and the HanDBase desktop works well (if a little pricey). When I had small sync problems I got top class technical support by email. Thoroughly recommended if you want one app, highly customisable, to serve all your db needs and replace a string of other, pretty but less powerful, db apps..Version: 0

Very straightforwardHave been looking for a straightforward database for record keeping of bee hives and this work for me. Have downloaded iPhone app on both iPhone and iPad. Could do with a iCloud connection but I email results from one to another though it has a problem getting the date right. Slight bug I think. Otherwise fits the bill!.Version: 4.9.071

App crashes when using passwordsThe app worked fine for a number of years. They have just up dated the app and it’s now useless! I cannot enter any passwords in a database otherwise it crashes. I cannot access any of data nor can I go back to an old version. I see from online comments that issue arose before. Fortunately I had a very old iOS machine stuck on iOS 9. So was able to restore data there to access. Now gone to a different app. Update. Latest fix has sorted out crashing on entering password. Thank you..Version: 4.9.084

Version 4.6.6 on iPhone 3G running iOS 4.1I bought the app some months ago and now use it daily in my work to track repairs, deliveries, in-house and third party maintenance schedules and lots more. If you're already familiar with relational databases you're in for a treat and if you're a newbie, lucky you, it's a great way to learn. I bought Bento shortly after HanDbase thinking it might be easier to use but found it very limited. HanDbase is deep for an iPhone app but the forum and tuturials on their website are very helpful. Don't be scared off by it's potential for complexity though. As another reviewer pointed out, you can skim the surface or you plunge in, it's a great little app either way..Version: 4.6.6

Great and simple databaseI’ve been using this app for the past 5 years. It is great, simple to use, and has all the complex features for keeping track of everything you can imagine. Simply create your template, then add your data. I have never had a problem with the software, and have created over 20 databases, some with over 700 records. Thank you..Version: 4.9.084

Database PRO!!Love this app. Use it daily on my iPhone 4g. Since the last update there hasn't been any crashes!!! Would like to ask developers to adjust scrolling when doing a search. iPhone keyboard is up seeing the search field contains a string, so scrolling data from behind keyboard is a bit difficult. Otherwise extremely happy with this app..Version: 4.7.2

Could be so much better!4 stars because this is simply unique on the iPhone - I'm not aware of any fully functional relational database manager for the device. But judged on it's actual merits, it's really a 3-star app. The functionality is as good as can you can expect in absence of a scripting language etc. One of the most useful features is the ability to setup custom Views to filter and present data. DDH has a long pedigree in databases for handheld devices and it's potential value shows right away. The main problems are the bugs - as mentioned by others, it frequently crashes, field lengths and orders are forgotten etc. That may not sound serious, but in the real world, most would use a database at least partially as a quick reference and optimising field order and appearance is essential for this. Also, it doesn't take advantage of built in controls - it would be nice if it presented an iPhone scroll wheel instead of custom list for popups for example. Overall, it still feels like a beta product, which is a pity. If these issues were address, it would truly be a 5 star application..Version: 0

Great!Really hope they keep up with constant and never ending improvement .... can create just about anything ..... only wish I can make awesome looking FORMS.Version: 4.9.079

Great app but latest update breaks HTTP openGreat app I use daily for multiple databases. Sadly, today's update broke the ability to open a handbase file via Safari eg handbase://myfile no longer works..Version: 4.9.069

Very good once you get it set upI bought the trial version of HanDBase Professional which includes this Iphone/Itouch application, a desktop application, and synchronization for microsoft access. All of this is great, once you get it to work. I have several access databases already set up that I was able to download to my Itouch and then synchronize changes that I made on the itouch with the access databases on my desktop. The interface is pretty good. However, the application is extremely finicky to set up and get to work. It took me HOURS. HanDBase support replies promptly but their answers are formulaic and, in my case, not helpful, even though I explained my issue in detail. update: Oct 3, 2011. I have several access databases running on the itouch and synchronizing to microsoft access on my desktop. all are working well. but again, every time I set up a new database, or make any changes to an old one, I have to be extremely careful to do everything just right, and check that the synchronization is working; often it is not and I have to go back and do do something over..Version: 4.8.0

Great AppI have always had a DB program on my pda right back to my Psion CM through various Psions, Palms, WinCE,Pocket PC2003, WM5&6 in full and smartphone, most recent being the very good ListPro. I was very disappointed to find that this is unavailable for iPhone. Tried various listmakers but they are just not flexible enough. Found HanDbase and bought it as being the only proper DB available, even though I had tried it unsuccessfully on Nokia. This time I have not been disappointed - it works brilliantly on the iPhone. Converted all my DB's using the desktop version the uploaded by the wireless sync - worked a treat. It is a very flexible program that works well with anything from simple lists to large DB's. Only lost a star as it does occaisionally crash and just vanish but overall brilliant and a joy to use on the iPhone touch screen.Version: 0

HandBase is good but ...I have used HandBase on various platforms for many years. It is an excellent relational database but I am disappointed with their reasons for excluding forms from the iPhone version. When properly researched, they would realise that the ability to have custom forms is being supported on another relational database available on the iPhone in an application that has a long and close relationship with Apple. That also has a full blown desktop application and I hope Forms will be available soon as its features are superior to others..Version: 0

Excellent!!!This is the best task management app ever. We use it in our company for a year now. It's versatile and simply great..Version: 4.9.0

Very Good BUT ....This Application is very good but there is still no way to have forms in the database and there is no Mac Sync Conduit out for HanDBase. If you have a Windows PC, then it is possible to design databases and sync them to the iPhone through a WiFi Network. This is the best DBMS out for a mobile phone today - and I have tried a few. It has only crashed on me once, when I was changing a database Category, but I didn't loose any data so its not a serious bug. Also this DBMS is very easy to use, Even my wife can use it and she hates computers ! ! !.Version: 0

Same problem - this update crashes.AH! That's better! Back in business! Thanks DDH! (This update WORKS again! 👍) ----- Something's amiss methinks! After update, clicking on ANY existing database totally crashes the app. iOS 10.3.3 (Can't comment on iOS 11).Version: 4.9.075

Great little database!I have been using databases on handhelds for a long time and was disappointed that there wasn't anything available to even manage simple tables on the iPhone for such a long time. I know there are still features missing for the truly geeky, but it takes only minutes to build a simple table with popup boxes, pre-filled defaults, etc. and the range of data types is really good. I paid for a separate application to let me record receipts for business but have been frustrated because it didn't capture all the info I wanted. I built one that works perfectly in HandBase in 15 minutes, and it exports the data in CSV format right to excel on my laptop. I recently downloaded the trial for the Windows handbase application that syncs with the iPhone. Now I can create files on my laptop either by keying in data or importing from another database and sync those with my phone. I have to say that it's not the most beautiful system I've seen on the iPhone, but it does a LOT of things and it does the most common ones very simply and directly. It's easy to figure out and I haven't found anything I need it to do on my phone that it can't do. I have several other iPhone databases that are 'prettier' but none of them can do all of the things I need. HandBase is really capable, solid, and easy to understand if you've used a database system before..Version: 0

Brings the iPhone to a new levelFinally -- an application that makes the iPhone into a real pocket PC: a relational database. Ask anyone who develops applications for mainframe, webserver, or desktop. Under the skin, behind the pretty web inferface of almost all business apps, you'll find a database. Every bulletin board, accounting application, or point-of-sale application: they all need a database, as do lists, libraries, catalogs, and inventory apps. Database developers will be pleased to find that HanDBase allows multiple-table databases with true relational links -- parent-child and one-to-many relationships. But even if you are not a database developer (which I am), it is simple enough to let you construct your own databases for whatever purpose. It allows for many different data field types (text, numeric, date, pop-up selection, etc.). As for using your data, it allows flexible screen reporting ("views"). Don't want to be a developer? No problem... DDH software has a lot of pre-developed templates available on their support site... as well as plenty of support for those who DO want to be developers. They've been around for a while, and HandDBase was originally developed for Windows CE running on Pocket PCs. Bottom Line: it's a great app that takes the iPhone to a new level..Version: 0

Just got betterA powerful very useful database program for the novice or advanced user. More refreshingly a very courteous and helpful developer who answers users questions personally and promptly on the user forums. Now with forms (in app purchase )add on, the program is worthy of more than 5 stars. It stores my product & customer database over 2000 records in each, giving me fast reference when away from my office. Recommended..Version: 4.75

Best Database for iPhoneI had always been dependent on my database on my Palm (Smartlist to Go) bad even kept my Palm when I got my iPhone 2 years ago. I have tried every database app put out there and find that HanDbase is the best. It blows Bento out of the water. It's basic field types (text, notes, popups, etc.)are very easy to use and manipulate. The more advanced ones, like linked and relationship, are confusing and the manual online does not really help. I would love to use those fields, but need more help. The width of the columns of the views is very difficult to adjust and manipulate and should be improved. It would be easier if you could just move the grid itself with your finger on the view. I wish the date choice field showed a month instead of the scrolling choice. I am waiting patiently for the Mac desktop version to allow you to create databases. Right now you can only edit data (not fields) on existing DBs. I use it to backup what I have which is important. Still, HanDbase is very powerful and I use it daily to track my family's doctors visits, passwords, movies, books and more..Version: 0

FantasticExcellent Application, simple interface, but extremely fast and powerful fully relational database.. Possibly better on iPhone now than Pocket PC, my only bugbear (and its the same with pocket pc version unless you buy 3rd party plugin) is you cant link a record directly to a photograph on your phone.Version: 0

Still excellent but - No update for over a yearI’ve been using this database app for quite a few years, for all sorts of things, including some databases with over 1000 entries I’ve put in over time - with lots of different views, filters etc and it still works but... A couple of things in the interface have started being glitchy with recent iOS updates, and the WiFi sync feature which I’ve used often to make sure I have a backup of important databases, is now complaining that it needs a WiFi connection (when the phone is connected to WiFi) - so slowly, some features seem to be breaking, and the dev hasn’t provided an update for a year (I just checked how long it had been since an update on iTunes) - so, still an excellent app, still very flexible and useful, but it’s possible the dev has lost focus on it and so just be aware that this might be one of those good apps that is on the verge of withering. If there’s been an update since Feb 2020, then ignore this caveat :).Version: 4.9.079

Was a great ApThis ap worked great until the latest update. Now when I try to enter a new use the quick popup fields that I had entered, it shuts down every time. Can't say that I like the new look either. The older version was more stable and less glitchy. Please fix this.NOTE:19 Jan '10: updated version works much better, thanks for fixing!.Version: 0

Does quick dip or deep diveQuestion was: four stars because it doesn't do everything - or five because it does so much? I went for five because I am impressed with how it has been possible to achieve a quite complex task - getting in deep did need help from the HanDbase forum but the developer is active there and responses are quick and helpful. I am an experienced database developer but I did need help when working around some of the inevitable limitations. On the other hand, another much simpler first project was built with great ease - and I'm sure could be done without needing database experience - so a very good learning tool as well. The support responsiveness gives me reason to be confident that this app will benefit from regular improvements..Version: 0

A promising startI used this app on the Palm years ago. On the iPod, I was using iSort. I love that this has more options for fields (checkboxes are so handy on a device like this with no keyboard!) and I love that you can sync it with the PC and enter information on the PC with a regular keyboard. The desktop software for the Mac is very bare-bones though, and I am glad they will be fixing this. My one gripe right now is that it's a little fiddly to edit records. I keep expecting to be able to tap on the field when I am viewing it and be able to edit right away. Instead, you have to open the record, then tap the 'edit record' button, THEN tap on the field. It would be easier to just be able to tap on the field when you are looking at it. I am sure they will tweak things over time. A very promising start, and I am so thrilled to finally have an affordable database app that allows data entry on the computer..Version: 0

Clunky syncingGenerally I like this app and I use it daily on iPad and iPhone. I only wish it were easier to sync between the two devices. Right now I have to go through the desktop. Most apps across devices offer syncing and backup through Dropbox. I wish this were the case with HanDBase. Otherwise excellent app..Version: 4.7.4

Not for the faint hearted . . .A really useful piece of software if you need to create a database that's a little more safisticated than a shopping list. WARNING - backup your database as you enter data - program is prone to crashes Gave this a poor review at first but after the latest update, the crashes now seem a little less frequent. Handbase have been helpful although they have not solved problems with the desktop version of the program. The jumbling of fields mentioned in another review, appears to be a problem with the 'views' facility which enables you to view data in different ways. Not sure if the bug is totally fixed but the problem is less frequent now..Version: 0

Can’t live without it!Easy to customize or use templates others have created. I like the ability to use filters and search for specific things. Highly recommend it..Version: 4.9.075

Fantastic appIt helps me with what I need in the go. I have a number of databases for a number of things, some I created, some I downloaded from their link. Cheers to the developers. Tony.Version: 4.9.079

With Update now excellentI have had this since it came out. Now the update is out it is excellent. I have been waiting for a good database program on the iPhone for a while to do an aviation logbook on Excel. For me the update in date entry and time has made this perfect. I am probably not using this program to its full potential but for me it is first rate. Great work guys and well done with the fast response with the update to correct the fixes..Version: 0

Amazing Performance compared to BentoThis is a fantastic iPhone app - and very stable now they have fixed the few bugs. It is really fast and has features (like smart filters) that Bento doesn't. The downside is that the desktop application for the Mac is very limited comapred to something like Bento for the Mac. So if you need good Mac desktop management/editing and syncing to your iPhone go with Bento - if you want to mainly edit on the iPhone - go for this - it's great. And if Handbase ever release an improved desktop app for the Mac I'd be very happy!.Version: 0

The Best Just Got BetterThis was already a very good Database Application. This upate just makes it even better. For me, the most important improvement is to searching. Now a search term can be found anywhere within the search field making data retreival a breeze. Advanced Searching lets us search across selected fields and we can further specify whether the fields must start with the term or if the search is to be case sensitive. Overall a great improvement but now that the searching has been reworked making finding data much more powerful, this has become a superb Database Manager that certainly meets all my needs. Well Done!.Version: 0

Technical Application - Excellent / Easy on the Eye - Not so goodHaving used a couple of other Database apps that were VERY slow to import CSV files etc... I thought I'd give this a go. I have to say that importing databases is very easy from csvs and the number of views and sorting you can have is excellent. My main gripe is that they need to "Pretty it up" a bit. It is very fast to search through a list of 3000 plus records I have and it gives the right outputs without crashing or freezing. The http link through my desktop does all it needs to to get CSV files in the system and get databases started up. I am yet to explore some more of the features and I bet I won't be disappointed (as I have been with its main contenders).Version: 0

Excellent Database App without bells and whistles!I've tried a few database apps for the iphone and this one may not be eye candy, but it works and works well! I have built a few multi table databases, which use many relational links and 50+ calculations in one form. It's pretty stable and I'd easily give it 5 stars if you could add pictures and web links. I read that DDH has a later version waitng for approval from Apple that has this functionality, so I can't wait to upgrade. Excellent product!.Version: 0

Handbase 4.7.7A really powerful application and very versatile. I bought the add-on 'forms' package and this dramatically improves the ease of data input and of course, you get good looking records. I had a problem with the Desktop 4 application (for Mac) but had wonderful service and support via email. The Mac version of the Desktop 4 app still needs some work on it but for basic editing and synching, it's fine. Handbase for the iphone is an excellent app with excellent support..Version: 4.7.7

New updateUsed this app for about 15 years, I had it on my Palm pilot! The latest update has mucked up the colors terribly. Someone must be color blind. You’ve got white on light grey in the search field and blue on dark grey in other fields. It’s very poorly legible and I don’t understand the rational at all. You should have a classic setting to let the user change it back if they like..Version: 4.9.086

I use Handbase every dayI use handbase every day to carry my data with me. Excellent and smart software. Able to create curtom forms on my Iphone and Ipad. It did take a little getting use to at first. Being able to synchronize with my Access Databasees was also very helpful. Support forum on devleoper website is also very helpful. Developer answers quickly and accurately..Version: 4.8.61

Good database appHanDBase has recently been ported to the iPhone, and has been around since 2000. It has been ported to other mobile devices such as the Blackberry, Palm OS and Windows Mobile devices. Please visit the DDH Software website and invest some time researching before purchasing this iPhone app. You will find there is no documentation for the iPhone version yet. I have emailed the developer & he is swamped trying to update the Palm version & will get onto iPhone documentation after!! To get the most of this app you'll need the Desktop HanDBase ADD_ON application (US.$15), which is windows only with Mac in development. This is good for database development, importing & exporting to MS-Access, iPhone syncing & backup. You can create forms in this but not transfer the forms to the iPhone. All databases on the iPhone are viewed as LISTS, (with checkboxes), and not forms at this stage. The real strength is the filters (called views) of your data on the iPhone. If you have an established Microsoft Access database you'll need the Professional desktop version (US.$25) or if you are using another established database program (eg Filemaker) that can export the ODBC format, then you'll need the Desktop Enterprise version (US.$40). There needs to be more iPhone tutorials and the ability to create forms. This app could deliver a lot and I hope it develops for the iPhone!.Version: 0

Transfer between iphone and ipad with airdropI have had this App since palm piglet days. No cloud support currently. I can sync manually between iphone and iPad with airdrop.Version: 4.9.079

Crashes Gone with Jan 17th UpdateThanks for the quick fix. I would just remind the developers that not every Apple user updates their OS right away. I've gotten so tired of the poor software quality that is the result of Apple's calendar-based upgrade schedule that I only update iOS in August when most (but never all) of the bugs are fixed..Version: 4.9.075

This is an awesome App!So far, so good... As an avid FileMaker Pro database creator and user, I am very pleased with the simple to use interface of HanDBase on the iPhone. Creating simple databases directly on the iPhone is very easy and quick. Stability of the App seems good (so far), but I find load time could be enhanced. REALLY Nice to have: It would be great if there was a way to create a HanDBase dbase and save it somehow as it's own APP or at least as another icon on the iPhone. ie; "Recipes" or "Expense Tracking" and have them show up as icon buttons. Well, that's my $0.02..Version: 0

Beta quality, but extremely promissingHas great features, especially for an iPhone application. A developper's jewel, lots of field types, database links, lookups, multiple views, calculated fields, etc. Not a full fledged database app, but very close. Hard to beat for a portable app. It shows that this app has a thorough and solid foundation. Unfortunately, the iPhone version is obviously beta quality. It crashes frequently, and has its share of annoyiing little bugs, such as periodically resetting field orders or forgetting views settings, but no data loss.Version needs to be run through better quality control, or clearly announced as a beta. Desktop app on the Mac is really lame, but I didn't need it, everything can be done on the iphone. Would like to be able to increase font size, but this cosmetic. Great app. If you don't mind beta bugs, then go ahead, you won't be disapponted!.Version: 0

Love this appVery flexible use it all the time Nothing else even comes close Except FileMaker No iCloud yet sure hop it gets developed I'd even pay extra.Version: 4.8.715

Finally updatedThere had been no updates for 3 years which really started to affect this App. It has now been updated and is useable again. Thanks! There is simply no decent equivalent available. Great App again..Version: 4.9.084

Amazing Program with Support That Is Second To NoneI have been a HanDBase user for many years now - on Palm, Windows Mobile & now iPhone & iPad. I use HanDBase to run my fencing club and my own fencing competition results databases. The combination of pseudo-relational tables and the forms designer mean that I can have an actual application that doesn't just manage lists - it allows me to build a simple (but powerful) system to record my data. I then export the data out to MS Access and I have full reporting facilities. As I say, it runs the fencing club equipment ordering system and the invoicing of members for ordered kit. Without HanDBase my life would be considerably harder. Whilst the product itself is amazingly functional and stable, the support provided by the developer is incredible! The forums are very active, and if you post a question or a query you usually get a good response from the developer within a couple of hours. And you don't just get a fobbing off - if they can't answer immediately they will get you to e-mail your database to them and work out what is wrong. And they will reply in a few hours again. The documentation is not always as up-to-date as I would like, but I would rather have a quick turnaround on queries than a fully up-to-date manual. HanDBase is a must-have app for me. I have looked at other similar-sounding apps but none have the richness or functionality of HanDBase..Version: 4.8.61
