Bogus in free versionUpdated with edit: Received speedy and friendly developer response. Also, I caved and got the paid version for a year. They’re running a good deal for the new year and the paid version is really good. Even living outside the US, the food I scan pops up. Would still be nice to have some more popular restaurants’ menus in here though. Overall, having a much better experience. Original post: Nothing in the free version works. Everything I tap, it says I need premium. Even if it isn’t locked for premium. I can’t log ANY meals or weight or exercise. Half way through the set up it asked me to log my most recent meal. I live outside the US in NZ, so it couldn’t find my food. I picked a similar one and then the whole app stopped working. Now it says I have eaten nothing today and have not done any exercise. Rad. I would like to use the free version while I’m starting out, so if that’s what you would like to do also, not the app for you. If someone from the developer reads this, let us know when this problem is fixed. This app looks highly rated, but I guess all those people are premium members. One day I may like to go premium, but if the app is just broken, I don’t see the point of even getting the premium trial..Version: 13.0.101

Helped me keep track to lose 50 lbsHelped me keep track to lose 50 lbs, from 03 May, 2017 to 25 September, 2017. Great helpful app!.Version: 9.1.4

Use to love it :/Better when it counted calories and not kilojoules. Found that much easier.Version: 9.6.3

OkIt was ok but doesn’t count calories like it claims, only kilojoules..Version: 12.3.400

Good but…A good app but disappointing change/update in that you cannot set your own custom number for calorie budget anymore (i.e fixed budget) and it has suddenly become an upgrade only feature. I was looking at different budget types to see the difference in calories and I was locked out of returning back to my previous budget type since they are all now premium features except the standard. I will still use as have been using for a few years and I really like being able to see the week’s calories as a whole compared to other apps, but if even more features become suddenly locked away I will likely look for an alternative. Adding more new features specifically for the premium option is fair, but taking away ones that were already there/free seems rather underhand..Version: 13.3.700

Takes money out beforeSays it was going to remove money on the 3rd but they have taken money from me the day before - and it’s just taken my money. Requesting a refund and not impressed. Some people put money onto their cards as they use them and doing things like that before the agreed date is not right.Version: 15.1.400

Was happy, now not so muchI’ve been using this app on and off for years. I love that I can put in my own recipes. It’s great at basic calorie tracking and I paid for extra features this year so I can track carbs and other things. Unfortunately it does not track added sugar. It only tracks sugar as a whole. So fine I have to keep track elsewhere by hand. I can find another tracker next year. But where my frustration comes is from selecting food. Let’s say I eat 1/4 cup of granola. I ate it hours ago and want to quickly add it. I find my granola but my choices are all grams. I don’t know off hand and don’t want to try and do a bunch of conversions at work. So I look for my granola in cups. I scroll through 10 possibilities and then notice they all have different calorie counts for the same amount and supposedly the same item. I select my granola finally thinking I should have the right item and calories count but wow those carbs look extra high. I have to double check the product or find it online. Things I don’t always have time to do. And then I discover the calories are correct but the carbs are wrong. So I end up creating my own food. This has become a constant issue and I double check everything. This was not an issue when I first started with loose it. But I have noticed you can upload your item for everyone. The database is too convoluted and no one appears to be checking what people upload..Version: 15.2.000

Getting angryI’ve used this app for about four months now but I am going to delete it. It has been hugely helpful in getting me to understand portion control and just exactly why I was four stone overweight. However, my calorie budget was very quickly cut to 950 calories. I need about 1500 to maintain weight. I regularly burn 2200 calories through daily exercise. There were periods where I didn’t lose weight at all and I believe that this was because I wasn’t eating enough. I am also concerned about the pressure to weigh yourself daily and there were moments where I nearly went down the route of not eating at all so frantic did I become to shift the scales. I worry that people who are vulnerable might slip into an eating disorder. I am happy to acknowledge that the app has helped me to gain great insight into my eating habits but the last straw was getting two “friendly reminders” in quick succession to log my last meal while I was exercising. Use to gain insights but engage your brain, do wider research on weight control and don’t be driven by an app.Version: 13.1.300

SuckedI really hate that "I'm done" button. I already keep track of the calories I eat, I still have to click that. I forgot to check in so my streak was interrupted. I'm a perfectionist and this setup ruined my day. It has been uninstalled..Version: 14.5.700

Slow and glitchyIf you use the camera to scan a barcode it freezes the app and or makes it super laggy and then the camera doesn’t work to scan a second item. Have to force close and restart after every item to make it work. Please fix.Version: 11.4.100

If you care about your privacy, skip this oneThis app forces you to give them your personal information before you can start using it. There’s no way to start tracking food without filling out an extensive list of your private info and history. For someone who doesn’t need to lose weight and just wants to log the food that they eat, this is completely unnecessary and should be optional..Version: 13.3.100

App is great- developers are not helpful!Do not support this company. With all the job layoffs due to COVID-19 (I work in tourism), I went on the app to check that my account wasn’t set to auto renew as I can’t afford it at this time. Somehow while doing so, I purchased a lifetime membership. As soon as I realized what happened I contacted the app developers who were NOT helpful and refused to provide a refund or work with me in this situation. I am near tears as I really cannot afford $150 CAD for a calorie tracking app, and no one will help..Version: 12.2.300

It says free but it’s not, it’s very expensive! This app is NOT free despite that there is no in-app purchase notification OR does it tell you how expensive the app is until after you spend 30 minutes entering in all your personal data. They ask questions that make you believe they truly understand your emotional needs, your weight loss goals, fasting, exercising. They make you believe your goal is obtaining and they honestly want you to succeed. What they don’t tell you is how expensive they are. You need to remember that you just gave a way all your personal information for FREE and they pry on your emotional state to make money. They don’t care about you..Version: 15.2.100

Plenty of features, bad at exporting data and pesky advertsIt's a nice well featured app. If you just want to monitor your weight, dietary intake and perhaps your exercise, it's good. You can look up food /exercise items others have written calorific values to or create your own. Data entry is helped by being able to scan the barcode of foods) A problem is many have their own way of doing this, so you may find calorific values for one pizza regardless of pizza size and it's the portion size is not displayed when selecting your foods. Nutritional values for Sodium are also usually way out as many put in the value given on food for salt in g not sodium in mg as requested. A major annoyance with the app though is constant reminders to buy into the monthly pass for all the other features (which I personally will never use). I'd be happy to pay a one off fee to loose the adverts etc but not on monthly basis. Although connected to Apple health. Data export is not perfect and I only appear to have data for one month exported not the year I've been using the app..Version: 9.2

😡I canceled my sub, and it still deducted money. Now it’s not giving me the option to cancel it again..Version: 9.6.3

How has this got such high ratings??First of all this app is majorly flawed. When I first started using it it said i would reach my goal weight roughly 8 weeks away.. as I’ve progressed and way under my kJ budget without a single blowout it progressively pushes back my date that I will reach my goal.. how does that make any sense whatsoever?? I am working out twice a day and under my intake budget yet every time I log my daily intake it pushes it back.. also bot having the option to do everything is calories is a joke.Version: 12.6.700

Too many adsThe app works ok, but the ads are getting annoying. I am thinking of NOT using anyone who advertises on Lose It..Version: 15.5.201

Great app for the most partHonestly seems like it is just full of ADs now. The app was great before but it is every time you make an entry it’s another pop up. I don’t think I should have to watch 30-40 adds to enter my food for the day.Version: 15.3.200

DO NOT DOWNLOADThis app gave me an eating disorder lol. You don’t need to track your food, eat what you want to and fuel your body. LUV YOURSELF BABE!.Version: 13.2.500

DisappointingI’m really disappointed in this app and I would not recommend at this point in doing anything more than the free version. I liked the ease of that how there were so many different things in their food database that you could log as well as scan anything with the scan bar. It was fun doing that and seeing if I stayed within or how much below my recommended calorie levels were. HOWEVER.... I stay below and most days quite a bit below the calorie allotment I was given. Since I was not losing weight I actually changed it to lose more weight and eat less calories. Not losing anything I fluctuate up to 3 pounds either way and again eating below the new goal.. fun to track your food and calories and macronutrients but that’s about it. They come up with these “positive food patterns” which are really unrelated they will just say if you have coffee every day and then you lose a pound that it’s a positive pattern that when you drink coffee you consume less calories. Sometimes I have lower calories and will have butter with truffle oil popcorn. I will be near or below my calorie count for that day and I always weigh more the next day. but it will come up as a positive pattern that when I have popcorn I consume less calories! If you want to watch your habits for fun do the free version but sadly that is all I can recommend. I regret paying for the annual fee, and will not renew..Version: 11.4.800

Good App....butTheir continual push to force you into a subscription model which is not cheap is painful..Version: 9.6.3

New update sucks!Latest update takes away all but the basic nutrient tracking. I have used this free app for the last 4 years with great results. Now I’m looking for another way to track my sugars, saturated fats and carbs. Unless you’re prepared to pay this app is pretty well useless..Version: 12.2.100

Good and BadTo start, I love this app. It is unique with the photos and how easy it is to use. I have been using it for about five years pretty consistently. Really no complaints; except for one of the recent updates… The ads. The only ad I had with a free version of my account was a very small one advertising their premium deal. I did not mind this and it did not bother me, however, recently there was an update or a change where whenever you add a meal and complete it and add pops up, nearly every single time. This is very inconvenient as it uses the entire screen instead of a small banner on top as previously mentioned. I am very disappointed in this feature. Because I have been using the app for so long and this is the worst change they have made in the entire five years that I have been using it. I wish there wasn’t an immediate pop-up ad during a very inconvenient time as this app is very easy to use and convenient because of the layout and some short cuts, not to mention they sometimes start with a larger version advertising their premium feature, and after another ad from some game you must watch 5 seconds of before you are able to skip.. as I’ve mentioned, this is my favorite calorie counting app and I have heavily relied on it. This feature is very disappointing to see and I hope it is removed..Version: 15.1.600

Good App but Widgets are Messed UpI really like this app. However, since updating to iOS 17 the widgets don’t look right anymore. For example, the elements in the square “Goal Ring” widget are tiny and used to fill the entire area. Looks really weird next to my other, properly-working widgets..Version: 15.5.201

Long time user - Disappointed with iPhone/Apple watch connectivity issuesI’ve used LoseIt for years as a major component of my weight and health management. It is a great app and I pay for the premium services to track things like glucose and other details you can’t get in the free version. It’s easy to use and really does what it says it will do. However, for the past 2-3 years I have been experiencing worsening problems with the app in iPhone while having the app connected to Apple Health and my Apple Watch. I have raised this issue with support in the past, to no avail. Lately the app has been particularly slow and difficult to use on iPhone - frozen screens, slow to load, slowness switching screens, unable to search meals tab without the app freezing completely requiring me to close it and restart. I contacted support, and they advised they have no fix for this and do not anticipate having one any time soon, and that the answer is to disconnect Apple health and my watch from the app. Unfortunately that defeats the purpose of the Apple Watch for me, which is to be able to seamlessly and accurately track my workouts in the app. I do not have any of these issues with the iPad version of the app. Unfortunately this means I am forced to reconnect apple health and my Apple Watch, and just deal with the latency. I hope support fixes this issue in the future..Version: 15.1.300

EATING DISORDER!Warning this app is very toxic. I develop a eating disorder with this app thinking i always needed to workout after i ate because i kept track of it all. You’re also probably going to be measuring everything to log it in which is not a good mind set to have. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL WITH YOUR BODY and don’t let anyone tell you different. Don’t Get This App!!.Version: 13.2.300

GreatGreat little app. Just wish I could change it into calories rather than kJ.Version: 9.7.7

Don’t get itRenews automatically with no notice and you can’t cancel at any time. Have trouble writing a bad review. Keeps telling me nickname is taken and won’t send. Garbage..Version: 9.7.13

App is glitchyMy calorie budget for the day changes on it’s own despite there being no change in my weight. Quite often when you scan a barcode the information is wrong because of other users inputting the wrong information in the app..Version: 11.3.301

What a mess! There are far too many user foods in here that are unnecessarily duplicated. Fresh foods should have a standardized item for each food, and each of them should have a per weight calorie profile. The whole database needs to be cleaned up. What a mess!.Version: 9.7.4

Taking my moneyI WANT MY MONEY BACK. I asked to cancel my members but I got charged again a 1 year later. I found out when an odd charge showed up on my card so I called my bank. I talked to them and got them to cancel my card until I could figure out where my money went. Of course it had to be this app that I canceled. So now I’m out of my 1 year subscription payment. I paid for 1 and that is ok but when they charged me for a 2nd year after I canceled it I’m piss**. Sorry for the ramming on..Version: 11.6.700

Stop asking me for reviews tooWhy does it ask so many questions gawh damn you don’t need to know where I live💀.Version: 14.5.700

Great app, too many adsThis is a great food and weight tracker. I am especially pleased with the extensiveness of the food index, the ability to add personal recipes, and the app’s recommendations based on eating history. I also like that you can enter a goal weight and the app calculates the approximate date of achieving that goal, based on your calorie intake and activity levels. The only thing I don’t like is the constant barrage of “buy our plus features subscription” ads. Every time I open the app, a pop up appears telling me that it’s my “last chance” to get the extra features at 25% off. It’s been my “last chance” for over three months. I understand that I’m using the free version, and developers have to pay rent the same as me. But I get this pop up ad each and every time I open the app. Every. Single. Time. Which means I have taken to keeping a sticky note of my meals so I only need to open the app once a day, or every couple of days. (This is why I only gave it two stars. It’s super annoying.) I would love it if the developers could please give an option to pay a one-time fee to never see that pop up again. Or at the very least if they could decrease the frequency it appears. Because I would absolutely pay a one time fee for the basic tracking part without the extra features of the subscription. But I have no need of a subscription, and I really don’t need constant reminders of my apparently eternal “last chance” pricing..Version: 9.6.3

Update killed the appThe update basically took all the features you need right out...unless you want to pay. App is now useless to me.Version: 12.2.200

“Snap It” Does Not Work. Cumbersome Logging Inaccurate DataI paid for the premium subscription thinking that this app would be able to log my meals by photographing it. The Snap It feature has so far been unable to correctly identify any of my meals. So I ended up resorting back to manually entering the food items, which required me to enter how many grams of pasta I had. I didn’t believe that it was practical to weigh food at a restaurant, and if I were just guesstimating why couldn’t I use rough units like “a plateful” or “starter portion”? On top of all that, the beef brisket parpadelle that I ordered from a mainstream chain restaurant wasn’t available in the food database, while the generic beef brisket pasta in the database had a calorie estimate that was off by a factor of 3 compared to the value given on the menu. All in all, I felt like it was a lot of cumbersome busy work that didn’t even paint a remotely accurate picture. Just photographing the food and sticking it in a food journal album is more effective, more efficient, and costs nothing..Version: 14.2.700

I was charged $51 for a trial?Used it for a couple days for the free trial, the boom, charged over $50 with no warning. What? Be careful and read the small print I guess.Version: 9.7.12

I WAS CHARGED $51.99I used this app for 1 week and decided it was not for me and was charged $51.99 out of no where !!! I’m very upset the App Store says it was free to download and now I’m being charged !!!.Version: 9.7.4

Gave this a rating of 3 because....1) I don’t like that you have to be super specific when typing to find the food you’re looking for. You should be able to get some options after entering a few key words. 2) When editing anything where I have to scroll down to type, the app just won’t...hold it stay to where I scroll to; Like, it’ll just spring back up to the top of the page. I can’t edit my profile because I get get to the bottom of the page to type. Also, 3) I don’t know that the percentages and other numbers are very accurate. For example, you can find an avocado that’ll say 240cal per...I don’t know 70 grams and then another option will say 350 for 70 grams. You know? It’s like “which one is the right one?!” And I know that some good have checkmarks and they have been, supposedly, reviewed for accuracy by the Loose It! people but I don’t know about those either. I paid for a year subscription but I’m not happy with that. I think it isn’t worth it to pay for this app, specially if you are doing a specific diet such as I’m doing (keto). Because even though you get some exercise video and meal ideas other are not targeted to YOU they are very general and from what I can tell by using this app for many years is that they don’t update any of that stuff..Version: 9.5.15

Good but sluggish. Malicious reports. Avoid long termIn almost every aspect this app works great, save performance. I’m not sure if it’s just unoptimized or if it can’t handle it’s enormous food database, but even on the latest and greatest iPhone it becomes unresponsive for at least 5 seconds whenever I try to log a new meal. This makes it frustrating to use, and I’ve found myself logging less and less because of it. I’ve used this app for years (and had a steak of over two years of logging every day) and the performance has gotten worse over time. Maybe it can’t handle the number of logs past a certain point, but you’d think they’d archive off older logs to prevent this. Another issue is the weekly report. I’ve been tracking the numbers from the report for years as well, and the report intentionally mangles the column order of the embedded table in the email each week to make it harder to paste into a spreadsheet (I have to rearrange the columns in my spreadsheet every time). This would be a moot point if they offered their own historical reports, but they seem content to only go back one week for the emails. If you’re looking for an app to log meals for a limited time, I highly recommend it. If you’re trying to establish a new normal where logging meals long term is the goal, I’d look elsewhere and definitely wouldn’t subscribe for more than a year (my lifetime sub is looking less of a deal these days)..Version: 12.4.500

Too many adsWhen I first started working with this tool I was very impressed by how easy it was to track my calories. That was two years ago and I could use it daily to track my weight and my meals. Now I am inundated with ads and it takes longer than ever to log my day. Yet even though the app has ads now, the functionality has not been extended. I’m looking for a different app now..Version: 15.3.000

Shady practicesNot worth the price, and the free trial model that expires after 1 week and auto charges $55/year is shady..Version: 9.7.9

Good but a few glitchesThe app works pretty well and it has helped me lose 7kg in 3 months but am now having problems with it syncing with both apple watch and iphone at the same time. I keep finding a warning that my lose it cant read data from my iphone. I then have to disconnect it, then reconnect it to solve it but that just stops it reading apple watch data. I follow the same steps of disconnecting and reconnecting apple watch but then it stop it reading iphone data. Never had a problem with this until a few days ago now it just wont sort itself out. Because of this i find that the calorie counter is not as accurate as it should be. I have tried go through support but it just goes through general answers and does not cover this problem. No other way to sort it. If it werent for this i would give it 5 stars.Version: 12.1.200

Unbelievably rudeIT WONT LET ME SIGN IN OR MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT, EVEN THOUGH IVE RESET MY PASSWORD MANY TIMES!!! This upsets me. Lose it! is the only calorie tracking app that I like using, so in this situation I would like you guys to fix your stupid mistake before I start using my fitness pal!.Version: 13.6.800

UselessCompletely worthless app, all useful features are locked behind a pay wall..Version: 15.5.502

Passcode issuesI used Lose it for a while a year or two ago, have gone back into it to start tracking again, and it asks for a 4 digit passcode, and gives you no option if you can’t remember it. I have to dump the app and reload it, and then if I go out of the app and come back into it it’s asking for the passcode again. Have registered for the premium, but if I can’t sort out the passcode issue, I will not be staying beyond the 7 day trial..Version: 13.5.600

Good only because other apps are even worseLet me start with saying that the app works and does what it says on the tin, and that’s more than can be said for other similar apps I tried (which is why I’m a paying subscriber). However, there are still some striking issues in Lose It that are mind boggling. For example how painful sharing food items is, which requires several steps, is slow, convoluted (no bulk sharing) and failure prone (sometimes it works, other times it doesn’t). It’s a mess (and it’s beyond me why there isn’t a setting that automatically shares all food items with friends). The UI could also be improved, but it seems the developers are more interested in pushing subscriptions than fixing those issues. Which means I’ll be off as soon as something better becomes available..Version: 13.2.600

I (normally) love this appI really think you need to reconsider the new ads you’ve added in. I have been using this app since at least 2012 and what I tend to do it pay for the premium and then after it runs out, the next time I have extra cash I pay for another year. But the great thing about this app is that the free version is still completely functional so I was ok going without premium for a few months at a time. Having ads in a free version is totally understandable but there is a huge difference between banner ads and the new, usually unskippable ads that you’ve added in and it completely breaks this app in my mind. It might be tolerable if you had different subscription options aside from just one yearly cost all at one time. For a lot of people it’s easier to have lower monthly fees than one big yearly fee. Apps that use ads like what you’ve added are usually an INSTANT delete for me but because I’ve been with this app for SO long and love it so much I really don’t want to delete it. However, having this specific type of ads in also makes me never want to pay for premium again and just find another app to use out of spite. This type of intrusive ad says we really don’t care about providing our customers with a quality product anymore, we’re just going use them to make us more money with every ad that gets accidentally clicked while someone is trying to make it go away. This app would be 5 stars from me without this new addition..Version: 14.6.100

Stealing moneyDon’t download they lure you into logging on and the next minute 64$ is taken out of your account within a week..Version: 12.2.800

Good App. Poor Subscription ModelWhy should I be tempted to pay continuous subscription to an app that is at best an estimator. A LOT healthy features are reserved for premium users. No ads based premium version. No option to just buy the app because you have pay continually - why? Wouldn’t you rather spend it on a gym subscription. Because the app is not checking your blood pressure or anything — you have to feed it the data yourself. The calories on the boxes of items and defaults don’t match. Editing beyond that is just a hassle. It’s a nice fancy logger which has a lot of potential - alas! the pricing model is too greedy..Version: 12.1.700

Good app, but overpriced and no lifetime option go AussiesFree app does everything you need to track kJ consumption and barcode scanner works well for packaged items. Exercise tracking is a bit off if you use a smart watch that tracks expenditure above basic metabolism. I generally have to take off 10-20% of workout duration to accurately match kJ’s expended for an activity. Cycling is particularly bad if you are a regular cyclist. No way burn than much for a 2 hr ride at 30kph average. 25-30% over estimate from the App. $60/year (half price on regular discount offers) is very pricey and no option under profile setting for any lifetime options so I wont bother..Version: 15.4.002

Great app. Greedy developerApp is fantastic. So great that I subscribed for a full year @$39.99+HST. Even after paying for this full subscription the app continues to give me pop up ads daily to buy their “lifetime membership”. Just shows how greedy these developers are..Version: 9.7.3

Slimy dishonest companyAutomatic renewals should have to send a notification a few days prior. I never use this crappy app and have no avenue to recover my $51 wasted on it through their dishonest business practices. Crappy app too, will never use it out of principle now.Version: 9.7.7

I used to love this app. This app helped me lose 60 pounds 5 years ago. I wanted to use it again, but it’s basically useless unless you pay for premium. I can’t justify spending so much money on an app that’s just for counting calories..Version: 12.2.200

So far, so good!I’ve been using the App for 3 weeks & have lost 5kg’s so the weight is definitely coming off. I’m finding a few things about the App a bit tricky - it might be due to Australia being metric..? I like the “congratulations! You’ve lost 11lbs!” but what’s 11lbs in kilos?? I never seem to make the target steps - it’s too hard to carry my phone everywhere. I don’t know how my calorie goal was set or how to change it & my steps aren’t shown up anywhere as “calories burned” - strange.... My Pro version doesn’t mention anything about water intake & there’s nowhere to record it. Despite my complaints, it’s an excellent tool - I highly recommend it :).Version: 9.1.7
