✓ Best Expense TrackerThis has been a great app to track expenses and build budgets. It has just enough advanced features that go beyond basic budgeting apps so that you can customize things your way without getting overwhelmed. The only downside is that this app has never had a major refresh and it sure could use one. Besides bug fixes, I believe this app has been abandoned..Version: 3.6.4
✓ Just get iPhone versionI’ve used the iPhone app for years and it works great. So when I bought my MacBook Pro, I bought the app for that also so that I could sync everything together. Unfortunately, I could never get them to sync correctly. I was always missing expenses on my MacBook. I would recommend just getting the iPhone version..Version: 3.6.4
✓ Good but could be betterI like this a lot, use it everyday. A few things that could make it better; Start a new year, not to hav3 all the past years in the data file. I don’t need all the past years only want this this year. I kinda fix it by doing a full reset, but then I have to put everything in again, I don’t have to much so it isn’t to hard for me. ✓ Taking care of the cents....There's an old expression 'take care of the cents, and the dollars take care of themselves'. That's what this app is perfect for. ...Quickly capturing all those little expenses that slip through the budget. The group sync is good if you can train your spouse to use it. Otherwise it's easy to import and process direct from the bank account at the end of the month. My only wish for improvement would be to have a big button to enter an expense quickly on the fly, eg while you're standing at a checkout - presently it's a couple of taps, but fast after you get the hang of it..Version: 2.8.8
✓ The best budget appUpdate on iOS 11 iPhone 6s Plus. After updating to iOS11 the backup using dropbox broken. It wont initiate the backup anymore. Please fix this thanks. Just to update the review, everything works smoothly and the recent update doesnt break the auto backup anymore 👍🏻 but the update break the foreign currency conversion. Hope it will be fixed soon. Is there any major update to replace the current one ? 1. shortcut for frequent added expenses 2. Option to move sub category. 3. Overall interface enhancements because been using this app for a few years i think a redesign is good. Dont mind to pay again for another major update to support the dev. ✓ PainlessI’ve never been able to make a budget and stick to it and I was very wary of the other apps that want to get your bank and credit card log in and account information. Privacy is a thing. This app does exactly what I wanted in a budget app and nothing else. No privacy issues and creating and sticking to a budget is actually doable..Version: 3.5.4
✓ LOVE LOVE this app!I’d like to point out they I rarely ever leave a review for anything but just had to for this app. I’ve been using it for years and over the years have actually tried pretty much every app here along with software on my Mac or PC. I always end up staying with HomeBudget. The best feature for me is the account forecasting. I can see day by day how my balance is changing based on my expenses coming up. I cannot find anything that works as well as this one. It would be nice to look a little nicer or be able to add details to bills like interest and things like that. ✓ Great app + suggestion for improvementI have been using this app for a little while now. My experience with it has been great, it gives you loads of options to personalize the way you want to manage your money. A suggestion of mine would be to give us the option to automatically select the currency of the purchases we record based on location. Indeed, my bank is American (hence in USD) but I do move around a lot and therefore buy goods in other currencies. It would be great if I could leave my default currency on USD and that the amount that I enter while recording a purchase is automatically translated from the currency of the country I’m visiting to my default currency..Version: 3.4.1

Has turned my bank account around completely. Would really like to be able to view unreconciled transactions over time, as it's very easy to unreconciled a reconciled transaction when reviewing historic spending though the Accounts reconciliation screen. Very difficult to find if you don't spot it at the time. Please add a ‘show all unreconciled transactions’ function, this should not be time bound, it just needs to show *all* unreconciled transactions whatever the transaction date. This will identify any transactions with an incorrect date which can make the transaction almost disappear completely from view and therefore be incredibly difficult to find. Thanks..Version: 3.3.6

✓ As good as QuickenI used Quicken on PC for many years but then bought an iPad. There is no Quicken for a iPad so I started using this software. I have found it to be as good as Quicken but with the same shortcoming. Namely the budget facility, which is rubbish on both systems..Version: 3.6.4
✓ Very user friendlyWhat attracted me first to this app was the wifi sync. Initially, I thought the app would be a bit complicated to use but it is very intuitive. I took one hour to read the user guide to get me started, setting up my accounts, the ones that have money. Then I setup a budget which is very simple and easy to adjust, same as the accounts. Once all this set, I followed the instructions on sync’ing my iPhone and iPad. It was a breeze. My only question I have, and maybe I am overthinking this, is my monthly budget works out but my credit card billing date versus due date offsets my monthly expenses by XX days. If my billing is on the 12th of a month but only need to pay bill by end of month i.e. 30th. I end up having expenses across portions of two budget months. ✓ Used since 2014 - still working well for usExcellent application and has taken a bit of time to understand how to “fiddle” it to work to our lifestyle. We treat each category & sub category as a “mini bank account “ which will sometimes be in credit or debit. We have a small amount in the savings category that helps offset any temporary overspend in other categories. Alternatively some other categories that are in credit may also offset a debit elsewhere. Read no further if you don’t use it like this. Here are a few tips. 1. Transferring funds from one source category to another destination category. I have setup a dummy account and “spend” the amount I want to transfer via that account from the source category. I then enter a “credit” via this same dummy account and update the budget for the destination category - add the amount to the destination budget. (Altering the budgets of the source and destination doesn’t always work). 2. Does your monthly budget and rollover add up to the totals of all your accounts? On the 1st of the month the monthly budget is applied to the sub categories. Any under or over spend from the previous month is carried forward via rollover. If you’ve set it up appropriately, your monthly income should be the same as the monthly budget that gets applied to your subcategories (well, that’s the way we do it). What this all means is the total in your accounts should match the “available “ figure. However, it doesn’t if the date on your income for that month is not on the 1st. Therefore we set all income to appear into the account for the 1st so we can check everything balances. 3. Exporting to help with monthly budgeting I use a spreadsheet to help decide how to make adjustments to the monthly budget. This is somewhat complicated to explain here, but the result is a printed summary of the balances of the subcategories for the new month and graphs show past performance. The export produces a CSV file containing the subcategories but unfortunately doesn’t contain rollover information which has to be added manually..Version: 3.6.4

Sometimes I’d like to see is where I can add check# or you used to allow memorized bills extend the memory year to indefinitely, now it only goes out 1-2 years. As a long time user, some repeat bills have that option and new entries do not. Not sure why the app does that. Updating this, I think would give me a better forecast to my future budget. Other reviewer mentioned about split expenses, if I make an edits, I am unable to edit the date, I have to delete the whole entry and start over. Would be nice if I could print balance sheets and income statements. As someone who does accounting, would be nice to see vendor list and accounts payable list. ✓ My #1 App. Period.I’ve used HomeBudget for probably the past 4 or 5 years. It’s how I keep track of all of my expenses on the go and at home. Of all the apps I’ve tried and used off and on, this one stays consistently in my top three. It’s the best, most useful app I have on my phone. I could not at this point live without it. In the four plus years I’ve used it, I’ve never had a problem until the other day. My budgets weren’t showing up correctly. So I emailed support and they got back with me and helped me solve the issue very quickly. Great app. Great service. ✓ Still the best, but…Been using this app for almost a decade, it’s still the best budgeting app out there in my opinion, I use it every day. A note to the developers: over the last year or so the ‘Recurring expenses’ and ‘Recurring transfers’ don’t work properly. When you set them up for future reoccurring transactions it subtracts all the future payments straight away and all at once, rather than on the set future dates. This makes this feature totally unusable. Currently I’m putting these entries in manually which is a bit annoying. Would live to see this fixed as it would save so much time. ✓ RecommendedI’ve been using this app for around 5 years and would recommend you give it a try. Before that a was using Microsoft Money which was heavily out of date and I found the only reason I was using my home desktop PC was for this purpose. I needed to change! The concepts that this application uses are easy to grasp. I like the fact it provides a simple graph of income vs. expenses over a 12 month rolling window to keep me honest. I ONLY use the app on my iPhone even though I have it on Mac, and iPad too with synchronisation - it’s that good in the palm of your hand! I do like that ability to export the data into simple csv files when there is a rare need to generate some kind of view in Excel that the app does not support. The interface is clean and simple colours are pleasant enough. When I have had a question or issue (only a couple of times ) the developer has been quick and efficient in responding - we’re talking less than 24 hours! ✓ Solid app & great customer serviceI have this app on my iOS devices, my iMac as well as two windows computers. It is a very solid app. Had an issue with my windows license key (my fault) but customer service assisted me within minutes and had me up and running that same morning. That’s James! ✓ Pocket Financial PlannerThis app has been amazing for me. I have been using it for at least 8 years and it has helped me keep on check with all my finances. My partner and I have never paid a bill or the rent and now mortgage late, due to the reminders by the app. We are both using it and everything syncs nicely. My partner and I were able to set recurring money transfer reminders for us to move funds into our multiple savings accounts and in turn saved a $100,000 home deposit in only 6 years, whilst on pensions. It does lack some functionality that would be good to have. ✓ Family sync has issues with multiple devicesGreat app. 4 stars. It loses a star because it won’t sync to two ipads. I have a mac, phone and two ipads. Whichever iPad is registered last becomes the named device - they don’t both show up. That unfortunately means updates go to whichever one syncs next and the other then never gets it. Not sure why, it’s fine with the mac and iphone and ONE ipad. This has been an issue since I first got it many many years ago and seems impossible to fix. I have tried just with the two ipads, only one shows, just the mac and the ipads, again only the mac and one ipad show. It’s frustrating..Version: 3.6.4

Over the last 7 years this app has proven the number 1 used app and absolutely essential in my daily life. Over 7 years as well I've reached out to the Support team once or twice, most recently 2 days ago for bugs and everytime I wasn't disappointed. Quick reply from James to say bug is known (exchange rate conversion) and update coming in next few days. True to their word an update came this morning and all fixed up. However, recently I started looking for some alternatives, due to some annoying errors and the lack of updates, which previously, were constant. There is still no possibility to change the language, there is no possibility to customize the desired functions and mainly it seems that Anishu has not bothered to keep the application. I reinforce that I have tried several financial control applications and HomeBudget is still, if not the best, one of them. It is easy to use, it controls your expenses very well, it shows complete reports, it has a very good payment control schedule, it shows the forecast of expenses, it allows synchronization with other devices of the family, in fact, much that is not found in others applications. I ask Anishu, if you still read these reviews that reconsider this product and start to take care of it. Customizable to the point where you don’t feel like you’re caught up in someone else’s financial system, or kitchy finance philosophy. Importing data is a bit of a struggle, but I’ve long gotten over that, as I manually enter data and reconcile that with my accounts online. If you like to micro manage your finances, this app is fantastic. Conversely though, exporting data and reports in home budget is a snap. If you are the type that just swipes away and maybe checks later online, you’re probably better off going with an aggregator like Mint or Personal Capital. The screen that tells you your money available or your budget amounts available is worked out monthly. This means that the app regular tells me I have money that I don’t have. While I’m happy for ‘future me’ that in two weeks I’ll have an extra $1000, ‘present me’ is the one at the checkout needing to pay for something. I can easily track bills and expenses through multiple accounts and see where I am with my budget at a glance. The only issues I’ve ever had with the app were my own error (changing phones and not properly backing up data). I just bought an iPad 11, and I was hesitant that this app was too old to work on it. That was not the case, and I am now able to synchronize my phone and iPad to track my family’s finances. This app may not have a ton of fancy bells and whistles, but it gets the job done at a good price and it doesn’t require a subscription. ✓ Great app, needs a bug fixedI used this app many years ago and just purchased it again. I love it! However, there’s a bug when entering a recurring bill on the 30th or 31st of the month that prevents the recurring bill from populating in February (28 or 29 days long, of course). This means I have to manually enter the bill in February for everything to be accurate. Also, the Monthly View for my checking account does not accurately account for the recurring bills and creates a different outcome than the forecast does. I've set up a budget; scheduled recurring bills; added payees; and so far... WOW However... I’m in Australia. And there is no support for our banks with regard to the linking of accounts. Further, our tax/financial year is June 30, not December 31. Having support for our accounts, plus the same concession to use “yearly” as June to June, would be fantastic.
