✓ Crashing issuesI’ve listen to the books for years without issue now I can’t listen to them anymore due to the app trying to constantly re downloading the stories and it freezes. When the app says all books are download it crashes in the first 3 minutes into a book it didn’t save where u left off at goes right back to the beginning after reopening it.Version: 7.3.2

✓ Superb idea but where is the quality control?Further development is required. Several very unskilled readers are permitted to sully the classics, demonstrating their passion doesn't make up for their inadequacy and lack of basic linguistic skill. The editors of this app. should show greater discretion in selecting amongst volunteer readers of varying ability. It may be small consolation that a few jems are sprinkled amongst the rotten apples. The new update renders the application even more inadequate for wifi users since it has changed over from storing content in its entirety on your phone to live steaming wirelessly over a broadband connection..Version: 0
✓ Not much to offerYour selection of books are so little and in terms of languages when you have languages that considered the fifth spoken language in the world over 500 million people speaks the language ( Arabic ) not one title to offer on your list ,yet there is titles in other languages the most people can speak the language is less then 30 million people is this app biased by design? Or is it lack of knowledge of literature and history when you try to ignore a language that has 2 million word by 42 million definition I just wonder!!!!!.Version: 7.0.1
✓ Sometimes greatI love this as a resource but I wish they curated some of the people who do the reading a bit more critically. When listening to the Count of Monte Cristo, chapters 25 and 26 are nearly unlistenable. The woman has thick accent and is clearly uncomfortable reading English, also her audio equipment is terrible. There is a high pitched sound in the background. Very difficult to listen to. Some of the readers are great, with good voices and high audio quality. But some aren’t nearly as good. I especially the narrator in chapters 25 and 26. I can’t really under what happened in those chapters. Looking back I should have just skipped them and looked up what happened. ✓ Downloaded files repeatedly deletedFor a long time this was a great app- the narration and user interface were great, and so many books to choose from! But there has been a recurring problem with the files simply disappearing all at once. All books will be 100%, and the next time I open the app, they will all be 0%. Repeatedly. I only have a few books at a time and plenty of memory, so I don’t see why it should purge like this. ✓ No voice actor quality control.I've reviewed at least a hundred books before deciding this application and the project behind it was a waste of my time. All readers are American, some with accents so thick the rest of the English speaking world will struggle to understand, or worse, be driven crazy by nasal female strong american accents. Some readers ... Read. Each. Word. Hard. Like they weren't a sentence. Others ... Not wanting ... To rush .. Space words ... Horribly Andthenyougettheoneswhotalklikemicrosoftsamatmaximumspeed. The voice actors are donating their time, fair enough, but there is NO QUALITY in any of the hundred or more I've heard so far. By far the worst is The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I used it as a demonstration to the dozen thousand viewers of my blog as to how NOT to anunciate or read a book or script. This entire project is a waste of time on the grounds they do not vet the donors and waste tens of thousands of hours letting people with the most grinding voices or worst anunciation drivel into a microphone. To the Libravox project: I urge you to review and delete your works that fail and audition for voice actors with recieved English above that of a primate. I would donate my time if I saw you admit your submissions need review and many need replacement, gladly. Just review your submissions, PLEASE!.Version: 0
✓ Good...But Not GoodThe free version of this app is worthwhile. The readers at Librivox are amateur, but include some very good readers such as Smokestack Jones and Mark Nelson. But buyer beware...the Pro version of this app is deceptive. It appears to give you access to a large variety of commercial books. However, it only gives you the ability to buy those books. So, basically, you pay $6.99 for the option to buy more audiobooks. Definitely not worth the money to upgrade the app; this could have easily been built as a feature in one of the other versions, so it's just a dishonest moneygrab on the part of the app makers..Version: 0

✓ Surely this is a jokeThose chosen to narrate these books have obviously been selected from the general population in shopping centre car parks. It is ridiculous to expect people to want to continue listening to someone speaking in the manner that these narrators speak. If you have the opportunity listen to The first minute of crime and punishment by Dostoyevsky and you will understand why this must be a joke. I have listened to the beginning of eight books on this app and it doesn’t get any better ever in fact it mostly gets worse. Don’t waste your time until they get decent narrators.Version: 7.3

✓ Backward steps in my experienceI have listened to Librivox books with this app for years. Enough so that paying the small fee to access plus titles was easy. However, for reasons unknown, the app now irregularly purges completed downloads. I dod not want to leave a review regarding this, but it happened again this morning: 15-20 books went from “all files downloaded” to “0 files downloaded.” I’ve written and received responses several times on this single issue though no resolution has surfaced. The customer svc response time is fine; it’s just that this malfunction persists. The explanation they offered was that the app might purge previously complete downloads if/when a device’s available storage is exhausted or close to it. I have averaged 8-12gb of free space throughout my correspondence with developer, and have never run out of space. Unfortunately, I am to the point where I will trial the many competing apps. ✓ Update-keeps erasing my downloadsBelow this you will see my original 5 star review. However, in the last couple months it continuously deletes my downloads. Instead of indicating a 100% download, everything is now 0%, awaiting download. I live in a rural area with very poor internet connection, so it is essential that I have books on my phone. Also, I rely on this app when I travel, but I can’t anymore if it keeps deleting my downloads. Please fix this. I had it on my iPhone 2, my iPhone 4 and now my iPhone 6s. If it were the only app on my phone, the cost of my phone would be worth it. So many books and so many genres to choose from! Some readers are better than others, but, hey, they are volunteers. I have about 50 books downloaded to my library which has slowed things down a little so I make sure now to delete the file and just keep the title. I love being able to store books to have on hand when I travel. I love being able to listen to all the science fiction selections and the history and biographies. I love being able to fall asleep to a book after a stressful day. Just download it and enjoy!.Version: 7.2
✓ Freezes and doesn’t respondThe app is not responsive anymore, it seems. I’ve had this app for years. I am on an iPhone with the newest iOS software as of January 24, 2023. Using the app, it keeps freezing and seems about 20 seconds behind the buttons I am pushing. Even more interesting is if I clear the app completely by swiping it off the home screen, it still runs for an extra 10 seconds before shutting off. No idea what’s going on, but it used to be way more user-friendly..Version: 7.4.1
✓ Ok but a bit of a bug that’s bugging meSomething is wrong with the downloading process. Often I have to close the app and reopen it in order to retrigger the app to resume downloading after one file has completed. It usually gets stuck once it finishes one file and doesn’t move on to the next. Sometimes it continues with the next file but almost always it doesn’t, meaning I have to close and reopen many many times for books with many files, like the ones I have that are about 60 files big. It’s very annoying and inconvenient. I tried messing around with the settings but couldn’t get the download process to work right. Please fix this!.Version: 7.2

✓ Free but disappointing due to the readers being ANYONEAs mentioned in other reviews, the fact that Librivox allow ANYONE to read these audios really does spoil some of the enjoyment. In addition to poor pronunciation, some readers are almost monotone and don’t seem to actually get how to read a story with the correct emphasis on words, and others seem to use odd accents when some characters are speaking . . . . just don’t. ✓ Oldies but goodiesThere are no new titles to listen to, which is a great shame, but if you'd like to listen to the old classics then this is right up your street. Some of the narrators are lacklustre, and have weak voices, others are stronger and read well. Some narrators make me question what on earth they thought they were doing in the first place, but hey ho, it just shows that Audiobooks is an equal opportunities app! I am having issues with deleting books from my library, though I think this may be due to my operating system but I don't know for sure. Frustrating as my iPad keeps telling me my storage is almost full, but I can't delete audiobooks! One thing that annoying with these books, is that the narrator HAS to say "this is a librivox recording. All librivox recordings are in the public domain..".etc etc... I know they have to say it, but it gets tiresome at the beginning of each new chapter or section....Version: 6.2.2

✓ Lives of English QueensI have to admit that I have struggled, and actually had to abandon a few books owing to the mispronunciation of words, and the odd intonation of the reader. The one book I was looking forward to listening to was the "Lives of the Queens of England" unfortunately this was one of the ones I had to abandon, it really just didn't happen, obviously the reader is unfamiliar with the majority of places mentioned, and also the names of the Royals concerned, as a result I was having to replay in an attempt to gain clues as to what she was trying to say. I'm sure it would be equally annoying to the American audience to have a stilted English accent crucifying important parts of their history, that said it might be a good idea to stick to English readers for English works, and vice versa. Having said all that and criticism (albeit constructive), aside, this is a GREAT app, and as a FREE one to boot I don't have the right to moan about it at all. ✓ So over this!I’ve been listening to and enjoying these books for years, but not so much recently. Every time I open the app it starts downloading ALL the books in my Library. Ridiculous! ✓ Poor Apple watch functionalityWhat's good? Works well, good range of free books. Some rather harsh reviewers have shaded the readers. I think they are good and have little complaint. If someone is kind enough to read a book out aloud to me, I'm not going to complain about their accent. My criticism is the Watch App. I am sorry to leave a 3*. I got this just for my Apple watch (I iike to ambulate iPhone free), and although there is a companion Watch app I can only get it to drive the iPhone app not run standalone as I require. Audible AND VOICEDREAMREADER both do that. so, sorry, if you plan phone or iPad use I an sure it is great, but for Watch, not so much..Version: 7.3

When you want to do a search for a new book you only use 1/2 to 1/3 of the page so you can only see a few titles at a time. I can no longer scroll through quickly to find a new book. ✓ ZERO stars! Do not download either this or the paid version!Before the update, I would have rated this a five star app, butnow I would rate this ZERO if it would let me! I have a touch, and downloaded this about 6 months ago. back then it was a great little app, which downloaded the books to your device when you requested it. After I was forced to make the iphone version 3.0 upgrade (half of my apps stopped working!), however, i found that the new version only streams the books, which is not only useless for the touch, but also damned annoying to have to skip through even a few chapters, which I do because I listen as I'm falling asleep, because it has to buffer the whole chapter before it allows you to skip to the next! I also refuse to pay for the download version, even though it is only 59p, because Librivox is a volunteer based audiobook provider, and all of their material is available for FREE elsewhere..Version: 0
✓ FrustratingThe most frustrating thing about this app is how many books are cut up by being narrated by persons with thick accents or very annoying cadences! Some narrators accents are so thick that you cannot understand them at all, or their reading style is so weird and annoying to listen to. ✓ Good, but...The idea of providing this applicatuon for free is brilliant and I applaud that. It is unnecessary to cite its pros as they are obvious, however there are a few major flaws with it that the developers need to consider seriously: 1. Some chapters in some books are truncated mid-way through the audio and there is no way to hear the rest of them. It's a technical problem and not a problem with the app or connectivity. 2. The narrators are awful for the most part. I understand that hiring professionals who have had voice training is beyond the scope of the app because it is free. However the people who are hired need to be quality monitored somehow because most of them sound so boring and monotonous that there is no force in the world to make me sit through an entire book of theirs - it just wouldn't keep my attention. In addition, a small proportion of narrators are just unable to do the job - they just can't control their breath while reading!! 3. Quoting at the beginning of each chapter that it is a Librevox recording and that all of these are in the public domain is purely annoying! I would understand if it is required for legal reasons, however if it can be avoided it would make it all soo much better! All in all, a good app, but if a better narration quality app came out for free I'd swap..Version: 0

✓ What has happened?Recently redownloaded this amazing app, as it has many amazing audiobooks I love, but it keeps turning itself off. I’m not moving around, but it keeps cutting off. The response time of checking other parts of the app are extremely slow, and it has sped up the speed multiple times despite not touching it.
