✓ Messing up a useful appsThe latest changes are abysmal. You can’t go back to main screen and browse or scroll through publications, anymore. You must select your publications when you reload the apps. As premium customer who considers this apps inconsequential but very useful you’ve messed up the platform. Developers should be fired after the latest November 2020 update! I’ve ended my subscription! Update: Worked with Developer to solve issue. Developer gave a version # indicating apps was supposedly fixed. Version update only works when the apps has been closed and phone is rebooted. This isn’t a fix it’s a work around. Perhaps company should invest in better Developers. Nice, you finally fixed the Apps, I am happy again!!!!.Version: 6.3.4

✓ Happy uk library userHave had this app for a week and its great for accessing all the UK papers and lots of magazines for free. I have to reactivate my access every three days via my library. It is very easy to read newspapers as zooming in to an article doesn’t lead to a loss of definition, and there is also the option of using “text view”. Being notified of next issue of magazine being available and clickable is very handy. The only problem i have encountered are occasional crashes..Version: 5.2.3

✓ Excellent addition to library service with first class supportAs I suspect many UK users, I have access to the app through local library affiliation. A huge range of publications are available both national and international. A straightforward and clear reading experience which is better than many publications own efforts that I’ve encountered. The only minor quibble being that individual editions of monthly publications may occasionally be a little late in appearing; hardly a big issue though. However, the most impressive aspect is genuinely excellent developer support. After a long period of trouble free use, a recent update created a glitch on my devices in accessing downloaded content (these things happen). The developer has been very quick and thorough in their responses and efforts to help which is sadly rare in a world where the more common response is to blame somebody else or user error. ✓ Problem on iPadI get this app through my library. Within the last few months I have had a problem with the app when I try to search or browse. The app insists on flipping through often duplicate or triplicate versions of various papers and magazines without stopping and then I have no option but to select or click the back arrow one page at a time until I finally reach the home page. Before I can do anything to stop it, the whole flipping process begins again and is completely out of my control until it reaches the end. Then I manually have to go back page by page to home page when it sets off flipping again ad infinitum. I don’t have this problem on my iPhone. I’ve tried deleting and reloading the app but the problem keeps recurring. I used to really enjoy this app but now it has become annoying. I don’t know how to fix this..Version: 6.3.2
✓ Press ReaderPress Reader is an excellent substitute for the printed paper. I love that it is identical to the print edition. Because of that I KNOW that I’m not missing anything. It is as easy to navigate as the printed paper and maybe better because one can enlarge the print. I wish one could email an article from it but you can’t. If one could it would be perfect. ✓ Great servicePress Reader rates alongside the momentous change that took place in newspapers in the 1980s, when a Florida paper increased the size of its body text to acknowledge a flood of older people moving to its region to retire in warmer weather. It went from the age-old standard of 7.5 point to 10 point. Newspapers the world over were shocked, saying such a change would squeeze out too much news. Within a year, everyone changed and 10pt remains the standard to this day. What Press Reader does is enable the aging baby-boomer generation - the last big cohort to continue consuming print news - to retain access. ✓ Great, except for one bugPress Reader is a wonderful way to read the New York Times. In fact, I prefer it over the print edition. Being able to “jump” to the continuation of articles is much, much easier than leafing through paper pages. The only gripe I have is when a side panel pops up on the left side at random and unpredictable times, and I have no way to get rid of it besides closing the app and restarting. ✓ Good service, wonky softwareI use PressReader for free thanks to my local library, and it provides a great way to read newspapers and magazines. The only problem with it is that the software’s interface is slightly lacking, and more importantly, it somehow makes my brand new iPad Air 4 overheat and drains the battery rapidly. This morning it’s used up 25 percent in an hour! It had the exact same issue on my old Huawei Mediapad 5 8.0, so this is not hardware specific. As it’s only displaying big pictures of newspaper pages I don’t really understand how it’s managing to tax the hardware so much..Version: 6.1.1
✓ Do not like recent updateI’ve been using PressReader for a few years now, and in general I love it. The most recent update is irritating me though, as it is now limiting the number of screenshots that I can take in a magazine or newspaper. I get that some people may be abusing this, and I understand the warning, however there is an assumption that anyone taking screenshots is abusing the magazine, when I am doing it for my own personal use. For example, I recently decided to try cross stitching as something new to do during the pandemic. I downloaded a cross stitch magazine, chose a pattern to try, then took screenshots of the design so that I could send it to my computer to print (I cannot print directly from the iPad). I got the pattern, but I can’t get the instructions! The iPad screen is too small for me to work from, not to mention that the screen keeps blacking out, so I guess I will not be doing the cross stitch. I have also used screenshots to print recipes so that I can cook them, and even to take screen shots of book recommendations or ads of things that I want to purchase. I do understand that some people abuse these things, but don’t treat us all as abusers. Besides, I am sure that the true abusers will find a way around this soon enough, so only the legitimate users will be inconvenienced. If I bought a paper copy of the magazine I could copy it and distribute it, tear pages out to keep, etc. I will have to seriously rethink using pressreader if this continues. Thank you for the response. Can I suggest an alternative of adding a unique hidden digital identifier to the screenshot that lets you know which account it came from? That way legitimate users are not inconvenienced, but you will actually be able to track down abusers if they distribute their screenshots. Meanwhile, I read my favourite cooking magazine last night, and I have seven recipes I want to try but can only print 3 of them....Version: 5.7.4
✓ Recent problems not fixedA number of recent reviewers have highlighted problems which the developers claim has been fixed. Not so, a bit of honesty would be appreciated here. I tried deleting the app and re-installing it without any success. Yesterday I was able to access up to date papers but the would not automatically download. Today, no papers at all and no access to downloads or ‘for you’ tabs. This used to be an excellent app but for reason the developers seem unable to fix whatever problems are behind the poor functionality. C’mon guys, if you’re having problems and admit it we can accept that and be a bit more patient. Update. The app is now back running perfectly which is a great relief. ✓ Add a sign / text for fully read / downloaded editionPlease add a sign or text (fully read / downloaded) for magazines / newspapers that I have downloaded in the past. For example, if I have read / downloaded a February 2022 edition of a magazine and then delete it, next time when I am checking the latest issue or certain month of the same magazine, I want to see whether I have read / downloaded the same issue / edition of that magazine. People could forget. So, I don't have to download the same edition that I have read / downloaded in the past. This feature is available in Libby app. So, please add a sign / text whether people have read / downloaded certain editions of a magazine / newspaper..Version: 6.6.1
✓ Great reading, data hogI love reading newspapers in their original format on PressReader. I have a subscription to one paper and access to hundreds of papers through my local library, and both log-ins work seamlessly together. PressReader has improved to near-perfect status over the years but one flaw remains: despite my efforts to clear out old editions, the size of my data files grows until it chokes my iPad. Recently I had to once again delete and reinstall the app after it reached over 7GB of content. I don’t know what is causing this as I don’t see any stash of available newspapers in any archive. ✓ Press ReaderI have to revise my previous review because the latest version is not stable. The blue hyperlink to enlarge an article only works on select articles and crashes the program on others. Repeated requests to customer service have not solved the total problem. They now seem to have fixed the front page of the NY Times but not inner pages like the Opinion page. PLEASE FIX! Finally fixed! Now works well on my iPad Pro 10.5 inch screen. I would like to add my frustration to the other NY Times reader reviews. The Press Reader column on the left cuts off NY Times columns and requires ridiculous slide and hold maneuvers to read the paper. I don't understand why the reading experience got worse with this update. Please fix. Press Reader has a problem with the new iPad Pro 10.5 inch screen. Three great features I’ve never seen before but always dreamed of: real time Translation (you don’t need 3rd party anymore) - very convenient - just imagine you can read any language! (Italian Vogue is not longer Italian) Then you don’t even have to read, Voice Reader can do it aloud. And finally the Boomarks! ✓ Almost there!Generally it’s a good app. My only problem is that there is the option to save pages to your collections, yet there is absolutely no way to actually access them?? I’m guessing this is a glitch or something. Would definitely be 5 stars if this was fixed. ✓ A little bit patchy but generally greatThis is a really good app and I am grateful that my local public library service subscribes to it. It is so great to be able to read magazines that, in the past, I only ever read in the dentist’s waiting room. I mean, I’m never going to buy Mojo because most of it is of no interest at all, but it contains little nuggets of information that are fascinating. On the downside, the provision of some publications is patchy. For example, I download The Guardian Journal and I frequently find that it is not there (and it then never appears). ✓ Good but could be betterThis is basically great. Loads of newspapers and magazines available with two reading layouts for papers. I don’t want to appear churlish but there are just a few niggles that If worked on would make it perfect. Logging in isn’t very intuitive and I still haven’t fully mastered it in that I cannot make bookmarks or share articles. In text reading mode some articles do seem rather mixed up and not easy to read. Bits missing or in the wrong place. Some titles seem to have been there but are now missing (no new issues for few months) and some are rather late being available, e.g. TV mag available Tues on Readly only appeared here Friday. ✓ Use to be better.... something has slipped.Well, not really. It’s basically fabulous, and I just have a tiny moan. I mainly use it for TV Times every week. I check the whole week on the Thursday, in advance, on my iPad. When I find a program, I switch briefly to a note app, then swipe back into p-reader, and I’m exactly back in place. EXCEPT..that in recent months, once I get to Thursday (and sometimes even Wednesday) when I swipe back, it drops me into the TV Times ads pages, and I have to plod back to Thursday (or even Wednesday). I know, I know, it’s trivial thing, and I only mention it because someone may sort it. Other than that, it’s just utterly amazing that a program like this offers such fantastic free access to such a range of mags. Five stars, really..Version: 6.2

✓ Great program, but needs Archiveability and HighlightsEverything about this program is great except for two things. 1) If you switch phones or tablet, you lose all your publications. This ignores a large portion of the users who intend to study and reference the material over time. 2) It does not allow the ability to highlight the material or take notes in those sections. The only notes section is for public commentary, which is a different purpose. If we pay for the publication, we should be able to keep it forever and highlight it and do what we need to do with it. Being in the digital world is nice because you can search many publications for keywords, but without the ability to archive what is the point?.Version: 5.5

✓ NY TimesI have been a loyal NY Times reader for 4 decades. Living remotely, I am only able to get a subscription via PressReader. Sorry, but I feel that the system works better for PressReader Incorporated than for its subscribers. I have recently spent a full half day renewing my subscription as my credit card on file had expired. PressReader deleted my account at the stroke of midnight when my yearly subscription expired and I was online and on the phone for 5 hours to become recognized as a subscriber and become reinstated with my updated payment information. Was there an email updating me of the impending end of my subscription? Nope. Wake up PressReader you are a service industry and we are your clients! I have already noted my renewal date in 364 days in my 2020 calendar..Version: 5.6.1

✓ Love Press ReaderThank you for fixing Press Reader battery drain issue on iPad Mini. Use to run down the battery in about 3 hours of Press Reader use. Now it drains at a normal rate. ✓ Good except for one annoying flaw.I use this everyday and like it very much; except for one maybe two annoying irritations. Firstly the black bar down the left side will pop up for no good reason, this can only be cleared by opening up the downloads and opening the publication again. The other slightly annoying issue is the page will swivel to a different format if you tap accidentally. The only thing I need to identify is the auto download function does not properly work on iPad on few of the newspapers and magazines. ✓ Some setup issues and interface qwirks but works okI initially had issues using the access provided by my library. Needed to contact support several times but after a new account was created app now works ok. After using this for a few months now I generally like the app but the interface has a few quirks which are frustrating. Firstly why is the county election and language such a dominate feature, I want to set these once and then never see them again, I would prefer these to be in the settings. Secondly when browsing on an iPad after selecting the category you still have a full vertical strip of display used to show a region and then search which only needs a few lines to display not the full height of the display. Finally, when reading I sometimes manage to show the far left PressReader vertical menu and I can’t seem to get rid of it... ✓ Unable to enable the gifts optionThis app used to work well but now I am unable to enable the Gifts option. The app will not let me turn on the option and if I go into settings I can turn on the beacon settings but as soon as I move off the settings screen the changes reset to off. ✓ Latest update doesn’t workToday is Saturday April 18th. The new update downloaded last night. It opens to old, already deleted versions of the New York Times. The browse catalog wont load completely. It is impossible to load the New York Times digital edition. There is no way to contact the company through the app. Why in the world would you post a new version on a weekend, when you are in the worst position to fix bugs. PressReader, as a product, is solid when it works. Unfortunately, too often, bugs pop up, and there is no way to remedy the situation. ✓ Crashes in seconds nowI use this daily to read the local newspaper, unfortunately after the latest release, it would crash within a couple of seconds of the app opening and keep doing so. ✓ Paper Boy More Reliable.That says it all. Too many late deliveries and some qualify, late afternoon, as non deliveries. The staff at The Herald in Glasgow have done what they can but the latest no show coincides with an abnormally heavy snowfall in the Glasgow area. Presumably someone has to initiate the download process manually at the Glasgow end. It doesn’t help,I suspect, that the other end is in Vancouver BC. although that shouldn’t make a difference in this case I suspect it does. While the exceptional snowfall on March 1st. was responsible for the latest non delivery, the fact remains that our paper boy has a 100% delivery record with my wife’s paper, the same cannot be said for the online delivery of mine. Any delivery after 10am. should automatically trigger a rebate by delaying the subscription renewal by one day. That would be the ideal situation for the customer. I for one however realised a long time ago that I have to live in the real world. That doesn’t make it any more satisfactory though..Version: 5.2.6

I know that there is the facility to read a transcribed version of the newspaper, for which you can then change the font size, but there are sometimes glitches in the transcription, and I also prefer the feel of reading the scanned version. I am aware that there would be a corresponding loss of resolution when enlarging the print. *it would be great to be able to fill in the crosswords and other puzzles on a tablet with a stylus. ✓ Terrific app, but a big battery drain?This app has fast become my most used app. However, it appears to me that it uses a lot of battery power. Where my iPad mini would last a few days before needing a recharge, if I am using PressReader the battery percentage drops rapidly.
