✓ Friends inside my tv.I am 83 years old. I don’t feel it and luckily I am free of even the tiniest of pain. I live on my own with my cat Kit. My name is Gerry Maycock, and I live in a bungalow in New Milton, Hampshire. Sky News are the friends I rely upon to inform, explain, and show me that the world is alive,and kicking, despite having this awful virus permeating and polluting our air at the moment. I rely on Sky News to tell me everything that is happening on the world stage and here In my country that I love and respect. I only watch Sky News now as they always seem to be there with what we all want to know the minute it happens. The newscasters etc are my friends that I see and listen to from first thing in the morning to last thing at night. I no longer buy Newspapers, because I know anything of interest will be on Sky News, and usually before the other news channels. I do not have Sky TV as such. I am only on State Pension and can not afford the subscription. Sky News is free to all. That’s wonderful. Breaking News, it is I. 35 am here in England and I am still watching updates of the days events. If you want to be first to see and hear 24 hours a day. This the channel to trust and watch. ✓ Distracting & often inappropriate adsThe latest idea of ads in the middle of articles is distracting and often inappropriate to the seriousness or sensitivity of the article. Also, some of these “sponsored articles” or ads or shall we say dodgy to say the least. I’ve noticed several that are clearly scams and sometimes have been reported as such from other outside sources. Oh, and please stop shoving this demand for political leader debates down my throat both in your app and on screen. This is no longer my default news app..Version: 4.12

✓ Good, but can’t share storiesApp is generally good, content interesting and informative, etc. My main complaint is that I can’t share stories from the app via Facebook Messenger. When I tap on the Messenger icon, what gets inserted into the message is NOT (a link to) the story, but just the cover photo. To share via Messenger, I have to switch out of the app, locate the story in a web browser, and share the story via Messenger from there. Messenger sharing used to work in the app but broke in recent updates. (I hope this is not a feature.).Version: 4.20

✓ Up to date news and gossip 24/7What I appreciate about Sky News items is the length of each item that are not too long. Also, for further reading on a particular news story, there are easy to use highlighted links taking me to similar topics. This is especially the case for Brexit, World News and Politics. Also the short videos bring the news stories to life on my iPhone and iPad. Sky News is so much more interesting and engaging than any other news app and their reporters get right to the scene of a natural disaster, for example, when others sit in the safety of their studio. An example is Yemen and Syria where their foreign correspondents are literally with the soldiers on the front line. This makes their reporting credible which is a value I think has been lost to other mediocre news sources. Sky News app is easy to use too with so much choice that I could spend hours and hours reading different news stories. This is good providing a breadth and depth to the headline stories of day. ✓ All newsI find Sky News trustworthy and often reports news as it happens. I also find it to be unbiased. The various analyses I have found helpful although I think some are rather verbose. I sometimes wonder, however, if it has been giving a fair report, on times, of the government’s handling of the Pandemic given that it even took the scientists by surprise. No government has had to handle such a national emergency since WW2 and I think there has been more emphasis on the negative and less of the positive. For example the Track, Test and Trace staff must be feeling demoralised because all they are getting thrown at them is complete negativity and yet they are working the clock round. Also the spotlight on ‘Killer in the Care Homes’ seemed fair enough but I have great sympathy for the staff of those cars homes that have been managed well during the crisis yet there has been no spotlight on those. Is it because bad news is always more entertaining? So, come on, let’s get the balance right!!!.Version: 4.19

✓ Sky news reviewI love sky news on my iPad and look every day, the only thing that really annoys me is the sponsored outbrain, smart feed or taboola adverts on the end or sometimes in the middle of a clip. You are simply not allowed to say if you want them or not, even if you go into outbrain etc to toggle it off once out they put it back on, I think that’s out of order full stop, once I see that spon coming up I don’t go any further so don’t look at the ads anyway so they are wasting their time and money. ✓ SKY NEWS ON IOS IPHONE 📲I don't often write reviews at all!. I find the majority of tabloids to be particularly biased to a certain degree and that's across the board. I think with other News outlets that the beat around the bush at try and blow everything out of proportion! All tabloid have that certain narrative to follow but with SKY New I find this not to be the case and it doesn't seem to lean to the left or the right as other tabloids do their fair share of. I personally find SKY News to be informative straight to the point and without all the ramblings on in the background..Version: 4.20

However, with particular reference to Trump, Immigration and Brexit, I have noticed a certain slant to the left. I’ve been comparing what I read on various websites and checking the data. A good example is that yesterday Sky News reported Trump as fuelling rumours that Kamala Harris was not born in the US. He simply didn’t. ✓ Too many push notifications for not newsBeen using Sky News app for years and although it’s still biased, it’s at least better than the main licence funded rival, which increasing resembles a frothy magazine rather than a credible source of news. However, recently the Sky News app has been annoying me with the ridiculous amount of push notifications. Years ago, the breaking news push notifications were for stories that were important. The only thing that is sometimes frustrating is when there is a clip of a news video, but no supporting information about the story/video - neither as a separate story or embedded in the video. Quite often there is a written story that you can click to get the info, but sometimes nothing, so you don’t know what it’s about. Not sure why sky does this. ✓ Great app but a few issues!I have been using sky news for years and it’s great. They are always the first to get the news whilst the rest straddle begins and often seam to wait for sky news to confirm things before posting themselves! However... one of the most annoying things is when they make a breaking news statement it often won’t open or doesn’t lead to anything initially. This is something that should be looked into. For example “ Bruce Forsyth dies at his...” so you tap and go to open the link and it goes to the main news articles and there is nothing. You have to wait 5/10 minutes for something to show. ✓ Informative news.I watch Sky news every day. The first thing I do each morning is to look for updates of sky news. I enjoy the Press previews but I think they are too short, & not given enough time to finish a sentence sometimes. I like all the presenters and particularly send my admiration for those who are in Ukraine at the moment, bringing the news to us, in harrowing and dangerous conditions. Their dedication is unbelievable. I am certainly a fan of Mr Michael Clarke who presents the intelligence, tactics and statistics of war and has answered questions on the 7pm evening programme and also during the day. He is extremely interesting and knowledgeable. To see lives destroyed in Ukraine, is a reminder to us all, that peace must be achieved. I cannot contemplate war happening here. ✓ Unbiased?Overall I think sky news is an excellent news feed and I congratulate sky, and I would like to think it’s unbiased too, but just as a btw thought & example - I find it astonishing that for all those hundreds of thousands who enjoyed being furloughed on full pay for extended periods, who have had a tremendous financial & quality of life & health advantage, for which the other half of the country never had or will ever have the opportunity for, but more significantly, to my recollection it has never even been mentioned once in the media or political narrative , as a huge injustice, which is therefore conveniently been ignored, rather than any attempt to at least acknowledge & somehow redress/compensate those of us who had to carry everyone else. So my point is- has this narrative ever existed or just suppressed, & therefore the down trodden consequently oppressed, by the global establishments of money & power, but perhaps facilitated by the media? ✓ Can no longer read articles without accidentally opening linksThe latest update has introduced a very frustrating problem, as you scroll down to read the article you often open links for further news or adverts by mistake as there are so many blue links in the text. This could easily be fixed by making the links a ‘double tap’ to open. ✓ Sensitivity IssuesI don’t know what or why it’s been changed, but the sensitivity of links in every single article is making the use of this normally very good news app unusable. Even when scrolling down a page and your thumb touches a link you’re taken to another article. You can’t even keep your thumb pressed and slide away from the link like you can on Safari or other apps. Is it anything to do with analytics and targets? Because there’s absolutely no reason it’s for the users benefit. ✓ Images and Headlines that don’t appearOn the whole, Sky News is excellent, but, on the app there are sometimes pictures of a news report which when clicked on doesn’t then form part of the report. There are also “collective headlines” - ie a set of three or four related headlines. When you click on this it takes you to the related headlines, but the one that has actually drawn attention is not there. Someone said this was called click bait? I’m not talking about the random stuff at the bottom of articles, but the actual article headlines themselves. That’s my only moan. I love Sky News otherwise and it is my go-to News app every day. I just got sent a notification from Sky News at 0750 on a Sunday morning saying that Trump is the first US President to cross into N Korea - really? Is this news worthy? Some major issues are not covered to represent Brit. public however. Migration for one, you’ve presented pro migration for years when many of us have been subject to problems of migrants and their UK born children. Why not show more of problems in Sweden for E.g? Why not say more on what’s happening in Europe for example? I’m a ‘selectivist’ on migration and appalled my fellow Brits are unable to select migrants that are respectful of Britain. Why do we not hear more on the Rochdale grooming gang? Only headlines last week and then see me the subject is dropped again. What happened to young Afghanistanis who raped an English woman in Kent, we need to know more? Follow up? Why did we not hear on Jordan and France dropping medical and food supplies into South Gaza approx 2 weeks ago?
