Best simple running appThis app got me from not running to running a half an hour non stop. There something great and encouraging about the voice. Maybe it's the British accent. Not a lot of talking in between, just enough to keep you motivated..Version: 1.12.1

Great AppI have been using this app for about 3 months (repeated a few weeks after holidays etc) and can now run 4km. It does not track distance but the calm female voice gives you clear instructions for your timed intervals. I like how each day is different once you reach 6 weeks, for example, you might run 20 mins straight one day or 8 & 5 min intervals the next. You can also listen to music or a podcast and the app pauses or lowers the volume depending on your settings..Version: 1.8.3

Infinitely relistenableI love this app. My favorite running Buddy and I love the accent of the narrator. It’s easy to use and has just the right progression to get me running again every time. I always have to work up to running if I’ve paused, and this app makes it a pleasure..Version: 1.12.1

Love it!!I downloaded this app 8 yrs ago. It got me to my first 5k, and motivated me to run half marathons. I have since not run as often as I should, I have downloaded many apps but always go back to this one when I need to get myself back to three miles. The calm, encouraging tones, the manageable expectations make it easy and amazing. I never even realize I am running as far as I am!.Version: 1.12.1

Fitness and stamina has been transformed - now up to week 9!Absolutely brilliant app! This is the only running app I have used and I have been extremely happy with it ever since the first session. I am now at the end of week 8, having got up to 28 mins, and my next run is the elusive 30 mins. I will be sad to stop using the app, although may keep it on the last week forever just to have the encouragement of the posh lady whilst I run. The beginning was an excellent introduction, with the interval style training gradually building up and I found it very copeable to progress. I have never been able to run nonstop longer than 15 minutes and now I'm up to 30. Amazing! My stamina and recovery rate has been transformed, and after a minute of warming down, I am no longer out of breath. Phenomenal! I also worked out the exact running distance I was covering and lo and behold it was exactly 5 K. I never write reviews, but this app has transformed my fitness, helped me lose weight and shape up, so promised myself that I would review this product so others could benefit . BUY IT!.Version: 0

Works Really WellI started off looking at apps like C2K5 and 5K Runner, but am pleased with this one. It is not as flashy or featured packed as some others but the simplicity is one of the reasons why it works so well. Voice prompts are great and well timed and the week by week pacing is just right. My only request, so far, is that I wish there was an Apple Watch app. I’d really like to do quick visual checks of my progress in each run without getting my phone out, unlocking it, opening the app etc. A glance at my wrist would be much more convenient. 🙏🏻.Version: 1.12.1

Potentially life changing.I'm a Couch to 5k graduate, so I can personally vouch for this app and its life changing potential. I never liked running. I was always terrible at it. I couldn't keep up when we did distance running at school, and I never got any better as an adult. I could never get motivated. I first downloaded this application for my iPhone in July 2010. I struggled on the early stages - I couldn't even run solidly for three minutes back then. I don't know whether it was a fitness thing or a mental block, but either way, I couldn't do it. I started the program, then stopped. This happened a few times. Finally, I committed myself to getting to 5k and began using the app seriously. I used a treadmill until I could run for about twenty minutes, then switched to road running (I thought road running would be much harder, but was actually surprised how much faster I became once I ditched the treadmill!) This program is challenging at times but not particularly difficult. The app works perfectly; the voice is encouraging but not intrusive. The waypoints come in at exactly the right moments. I owe this simple application a lot; I actually enjoy running now (I'm of the opinion that people only dislike running when they can't really do it - that was certainly the case for me). I feel great! Best money you'll ever spend. Stop reading and get running!.Version: 1.9

Life changing appThanks to this app I went from barely able to run a couple of minutes straight to comfortably running a full half hour within a couple of months. The couch to 5k programme really does work. The voice over is helpful and encouraging without being intrusive, and I liked being able to see my progress through the weeks. Get running App.I’ve used this App around five/six years ago and it is absolutely brilliant. I’ve always wanted to run but didn’t have the strength and ability at the time. It’s brilliantly paced with a friendly voice and visually well mapped out so that it doesn’t overwhelm you and you feel that your goal is achievable. I found that it’s best running app to get you running. I started from being a non runner to eventually doing over 10Ks on weekends and even my first Great North Run in 2019.Version: 1.12.1

Best C25K App EverLove this app - one of the cool features is that you can go back and re-run past weeks at any point, so if you need to re-start or just need to re-do a week, you can. For the GPS, get the Nike Running app (it's free -- tracks your GPS, miles, and notes on the run) Unfortunately, they don't plan a 5k-10kapp :(.Version: 1.9

Working for me!I'm only on week 2 of using this App., starting from being an older, very unfit (to the point of feeling conspicuously stupid just going outdoors in my new running gear!), computer bound couch potato in a hot and humid environment. The App. is simple and encouraging to use and I prefer to have podcasts running in the background which pauses when the pleasant voice of the App. coach gives an instruction, i.e., "30 seconds left to run before you can walk again." Gets you over the starting hump with easeI’ve had this app on my phone since about 2011, I’ve gone through the program several times including pre and post cardiac surgery. I really struggle to develop long term exercise habits and soon find myself slipping back to old ways after about 6 months, every time I pick up fitness again, this is my goto app, and every time I’m shocked how effective this is. Currently just finished run 3 of week one, I could barely do the first run, run 3 was Moto only easier and I know this app will deliver me to the 5k goal with ease.Version: 1.12.1

Very very very good!Nine weeks ago I really was incapable of running more than a couple of minutes. Thanks to this App I now run 30 minutes three times a week and feel great. It does exactly as it promises - couch to 5 k. In my case I consider this to be a miracle since I'm already 57 years old. if I can do it then surely anyone can . I highly recommend this App to any couch potatoes wanting to run. It is well structured, works well with music playing on your iPod, and motivates you. You will experience a minor amount of discomfort when you go into the transitional period during weeks 5,6 and 7, but stick with it and your efforts will be rewarded. Great for beginners!A great app for people who want to start running, but do it slowly and without a great risk of injury. A lovely woman's voice plays over your own choice of music and gives you encouragement and guidance during your exercise. I like that the emphasis is not necessarily on the distance you are covering, but more about training your body to run for greater lengths of time - sure the speed and distance comes later! Would highly recommend to those who want to be able to run, but don't think you can. The steps are logical and well paced. The website also has a great forum for runners to share their experiences and ask questions..Version: 1.9

Love this app, am I an Anglophile?There’s something about the coach’s soothing British voice that makes me smile, even when I feel like giving up. That said, sometimes I get excited or hopeful when she starts speaking, only to be disappointed that I have 45 seconds MORE of exertion 🙂. Other than that, I’ve used this app a couple times over the last few years to get back into cardio health after pregnancy and general laziness. I’ve even used the interval prompts for things like jumping rope, kettle ball swings and other calistenthics as a workout when I can’t run..Version: 1.12.1

Safely healhtier and fitterThis app really works for me. I am overweight and out of shape and really need to find a simple practical way to get some cardio vascular fitness without all the preaching and rah rah. This app is just so well thought out and executed that doing it is very easy. I have my chosen music playing in the background and the prompts let me know how much time it is before the next change happens. And I can and do pause the program where I need to so I am not running uphill and taking me into overexertion that I am not ready for. Well done. Love This AppSwitched from other running app to this one and I love it. As I am nearing the end of the training sessions, it would be great if GET RUNNING was able to be adapted so that the runner could choose to go longer, i.e. the ability to add an extra five minutes on ad infinitum. That means that the app will adapt as the runner adapts his/her fitness regime ... The longer you want to run, the longer the cues and timer goes. Can you please think about this? The other C25K app has the ability to do this, but I much prefer the whole setup of GET RUNNING. Thank you again from a devoted runner :-).Version: 0

Best fitness start up app everHi to all overweight under exercising people. Download this app NOW. It is the motivational fitness app I know of. It encourages you, guides you and helps you start to run, pain free. I was 97kg my ideal weight should be 70kgs. After 3 months of diet and walking I couldn't get under 85kgs, so I started this program. Now down to 80 Kgs after 3 weeks. I repeated week 1. It’s always my starting pointEvery time I’ve fallen off with my fitness or life has gotten in the way, this app has been the thing to get me back on track. I used it after my first baby, after I recovered from a broken ankle, and after my second baby. The prompts are gentle and encouraging, the runs are achievable and if you are able to stick roughly to the schedule, you’ll see great improvement in your running distance. Love it..Version: 1.12.1

AmazingI am over 60. Since January, I first lost 15kg by walking 10,000 steps per day, reducing portion sizes and cutting in-betweens. Then I started "Get Running". Week 1 Day 1 was the hardest day. Since then the programme has been well paced but not easy. I have now completed the nine week programme and on my third 30min run (read jog) I broke 7min/km (average) for the first time. I have also lost a further 8kg - I am still a bit overweight. The app is beautifully simple. If you are looking for lots of stats look elsewhere or wear a watch. Like others I found the voice encouraging. A year ago I would never have imagined I'd be able to jog for 30min without a rest. If I can do it, anyone can. Simply incredible!.Version: 1.11.0

Fantastic, motivational, addictive!I've tried running before and would run blindly until my lungs were about to burst. Not enjoyable and made me believe I was never going to be a regular runner! Get runningI did this app a few years ago. In no time I was running my first 5K, I lost weight and was toned up. I had a few difficult years ( emotional times with great losses ) and fell away from running. I am back at it with this app starting from week 1 I set a bucket list of 5K runs from Michigan to Minnesota to Florida. I am going to be 65 and I know I can do the 5K. It has a user friendly interface and a well set up program that lets me adapt it to my needs (I'm a shift worker so I cannot always run at a set time). Good but not perfectIn terms of a workout programme it's very good and it gets you up to a level of fitness in a controlled in intimidating way. The only frustration is that the audio controls don't work well when listening to podcasts. There is a setting that says it will pause the audio when the Get Running app has a notification for you, but it just doesn't work. It only ever lowers the volume meaning you will miss bits of what you're listening to. It comes up with a warning saying it must be the the main app open for this to work but it still doesn't. It wouldn't be as big a problem if the option to only have the the app notify you about key info worked, but it still waffles on about things that you don't need or want to hear if you've selected that option. Sure it says less, but it should only say "Run", "Stop running" and notify you of being half way. The other stuff talks over the audio meaning you'll perhaps miss something which is very frustrating..Version: 1.11.0

Week 3 and still loving itI've loved this app since I started a couple of weeks ago but thought I'd wait a bit to check I stuck with it before writing a review. It's really supportive and straight forward, and although it sometimes doesn't feel like I'm improving because I don't get as puffed when I run now, I must be getting fitter because I'm running for longer distances. It therefore has been successful in incrementally increasing my running stints without me noticing. I'm using it to train for a 5km fun run and all is on track so far. Only possible suggestion would be to have a GPS system so I would actually know how far I'm running, as everything is measured by time and not distance..Version: 1.8.3

Now, this one has just the right amount of prodding and gives me the info I need when I need: when to run and when to walk/stop. Buy this app, it's brilliant!I absolutely love this app, I'm so glad I chose this one from the several C25K apps available. It's very easy to use, the 'voice' is very encouraging and the whole thing is very well designed to make it as easy as possible to do the challenge. But now I've just completed the dreaded week 5 run 3 - that's a full 20 mins of non-stop running - in this blazing british heat wave. It was hard in places but I feel truly wonderful. Gets you runningI've never been a "runner", in fact I would go so far as to say I've always hated running. This app sat on my phone doing nothing for months. Finally, after much excuse-making, one day several weeks ago I just went out and did it. I'm now about to start week seven. It's not always been easy, and I still have a way to go, but I can't fault the results: I'm running. Sure, my technique is probably appalling, and I sometimes feel that if I were to stop focussing on my breathing for even a minute I'd just collapse in a heap. That first 20 minute non-stop run took everything I had (and a little that I didn't!). And there've been times I've actually pleaded out loud for the app to tell me I'm nearly done, but I'm still running... Update - Two (and a bit) years later and I'm still running! I'm now a regular at Parkrun, have completed a couple of 10K races and just registered for my first half marathon. Most importantly, I'm fitter and happier than I've ever been. I've reused this app a couple of times to recover after illness/injury and it's just great. I'd recommend this app wholeheartedly to anyone who wants to Get Running. A further update - Five years later! I’ve just used this app again to get myself back running after a big chunk of time off with an injury. Starting wellWeek 1 finished and it’s doing the job of getting me out and starting to run again. So the reason for downloading the app has passed and is worth the price. A life changing appProbably my favourite app on the iPhone. I found this app last year because of an article Charlie Brooker wrote for the Guardian. I have yet to find another app that gives me a buzz just looking at it. I do hope they make another app for people who want to continue after the 5k. The woman's voice commands are great, it gives you a target based structure to work from. It's nice to look at how long you'll be running for in a couple of weeks. I would say if you want to feel an all around health benefit, go to a personal trainer and get them to assess you and make a plan for compound excercises you can use to strengthen your whole body. It will cost you all of about £25 and the exercises I do can all be done without gym equipment. Often mentioned is nutrition, if you are used to eating unhealthy meals, don't worry. Like this plan, you should ease into it rather than just trying to change everything in one go. Good luck to everyone attempting to get fit, it's really worth it!.Version: 1.8.3

Great for the beginnerI downloaded this app based off a friends recommendation and I love it! I never thought I’d enjoy running so much. Perfect running companionThis app provides just the right amount of encouragement at the right time. The lady speaker is clear and concise. Works for me (38y, 17st, IT Geek)I most certainly started off on the couch and I'm now half way through week 7 and I'm running the 25min runs with relative ease (I don't find running easy). I'm pretty amazed at what I can do now compared to how hard I found the initial weeks and I cannot recommend this app highly enough. The encouraging voice telling you that you only have 30secs, 10 secs left seems to have the right level of motivation. I did have to delay a couple of my runs by a few days but the app just rescheduled everything automatically. The only thing I would ask for is runkeeper style maps and elevation plans to keep a record of what I've achieved. Week 6 was a bit of a shock In terms of run duration increase but I'm over that now. Update: I'm now 40, still a geek (the app did not help with either of these) but I'm now happy running. I don't do long distances but a half hour 5km a few times a week keeps me happy and healthy. Best app on my iPhone!I would never run for the life of me until I decided on doing something new this year, for a new years resolution. I had heard about apps that assisted in personal training and stumbled across this one and have loved every second of it since I downloaded it. Totally worth the money. Love listening to my music or audiobooks while the app is running in the background. I am now nearing the end of week 6 and wishing you guys would make a 5-10k app. I don't want to get the other one I like this format. Please make a 5-10k, please! :D.Version: 0

Love the voice!She has the perfect voice, such a nice pitch and tone, very encouraging and comforting. The only thing I would say is that, having injured myself a few times, you need to do each week 3 times over before moving on to the next week as per my health professionals, especially if starting from a base fitness of a complete couch potato to prevent injury. Also, I struggled with the jump from 20 mins to 25 mins in the last weeks, I needed something in between, like 23 mins. Otherwise, love this app!.Version: 1.8.3

Excellent app in every wayThis is an extraordinarily well-designed, smart, and user-friendly app that really did get me running for 30 minutes in 9 weeks. I am 62 years old and gave up running in my 20s because of knee injuries. Using GetRunning has worked so well: no injuries (thanks to the brilliantly thought-out pacing of the program) and I can't stop boring everyone with the details of my achievement. Couldn’t recommend more highlyThis review is in two parts. Firstly covering to couch to 5k programme, followed by this app specifically. Anyone wanting to get into running, I couldn’t recommend this programme more highly. Having just finished my final run I feel so proud of myself. I’ve genuinely gone from struggling to run for a minute at a time (which sounds ridiculous now!) to being able to comfortably run for half an hour. There were weeks when I wanted to give up, but as you see yourself progress it becomes addictive. Whilst there are many apps that cover the same programme, I personally loved the simplicity of this one. For me if functioned perfectly the entire time and I feel I will continue to use this app to have the encouraging voice and time pointers as I run. For people who are interested in knowing their distance covered and pace I ran Strava alongside Get Running on my later weeks and this worked fine. I’m not really one to go to the effort of writing reviews but I felt the need to encourage anyone who’s considering this to give it a go. Honestly if I can do it anyone can!.Version: 1.12.1

From couch potato to 5kI used this app 2 yrs ago and have now started again. It still amazes me that before you know it your running for 20mins plus without stopping. I can listen to my music and lock my phone and the app still runs. Brilliant app for beginners..Version: 1.12.1

Great appHelped me get back into running twice after two surgeries. I’d recommend building up to walking on alternate days for 45 mins over several months and then maybe daily for a couple of weeks before starting the program. Don’t feel bad if you end up needing to repeat the week 1 program for a couple of weeks either. At least you’re still going!.Version: 1.12.1

Keeps you motivatedThis is a great app. I HATE running! I can’t wait for my ‘run’ to end, and this app keeps you informed. I’m now up to 28 min runs, it tells me every 5 mins, how long I have left. It lets you know half way through so you can head back home. These reminders that soon I’ll be done is what keeps me going! Down side it doesn’t connect to my Apple Watch, it would be nice if it knew my pace, and could encourage me to go faster to meet with goals, but really those extras could be saved for the next app up, when you start to get serious! Great way to start Running!I'd always wanted to run but never knew where to start. I was recommended the Get Running App and am on Week 2 now. The first run was hard but the app was so encouraging I wanted to keep going. By the end of the first week it was a little easier. I didn't think I'd survive week 2 but I have. Can't believe I did it...This is a seriously great app. I had done no exercise for over 10 years so at 38 years old I decided it was time. This app took me from walking to running over 5km in 30min. I took it slow over about 4 months and re-run a few of the weeks when it got too hard. I still can't believe I can cruise through 5km. This has turned me into a runner. WowI am not a runner. I am not athletic. I have never stuck to ANY workout program I have started. EVER. I have just finished my 5th week. I could not be prouder of myself and am so thankful for this app. It was the only c25k app I have tried but I have never regretted it. I feel good, I never feel like I was pushed "too far too fast", and the coach is motivating without being annoying. Just the right amount of encouragement. I can now run over 4.5kmThis app really works if you stick to it. I struggled a lot in the beginning, I was in alot pain, out if breath and felt very dizzy but after repeating it I found all that started to disappear. If I found a level to hard, I simply repeated the week. I've never been a natural runner but today I just finishes my 9th week and can now comfortable run over 4.5km. Turned me into a runnerThis app really works. I was a complete sedentary person, but completed the program (took way longer than 9 weeks) and three years later am still running every week. Great appI haven't run since school and have always been too nervous/ had no desire to run outside, but inspired by the thought of setting and achieving a goal, I signed up to a 5k charity run with my friends and downloaded this app, and it's been brilliant! It really took me from couch to 5k in 9 weeks. At first you do te same run 3 times, and you can feel it getting easier, and then a few weeks in you're running double, triple a time which you used to find challenging when you first started. Great things about this app include the ability to run alongside most music apps, the encouraging voice that informs you of your time and distance, and it plans your runs by date, which kept me right on track for training for my 5k. The only criticism I have is that it does it by minutes, and works by the principle that by the time you get up to running 30 mins you should be running 5k (which might not be true if you're a slow runner!) so I had to run a distance app alongside it just to make sure I was actually hitting 5k, because as far as I could tell the app wasn't measuring my distance. Overall a great app. Seeing the dates telling me when to run was the best encouragement for me..Version: 1.11.0

Delivers...motivation required!I have wanted to review this app for some years now. First bought in 2012 and it’s never left my phone since. Got me from unfit and overweight back to fighting weight and overall health. It’s simple friendly voice has seen me through many many runs. Even after completing the course I often return after illness or laziness and it never fails me. On day one you’ll feel it’s an insurmountable task, praying for a 1 minute run to be up but sooner than you think, you’ll be pounding out 20, 25, 28 and 30 minute runs. 5k programs are not new but when combined with an app it’s a life changing plan. Motivation is required, you do have to commit to it, but also don’t get disheartened if a run is tough, many of us hit a wall at some point, it took me four goes to do my first solid 20min run but stick at it and you CAN finish the program. I owe a lot to this app, it is the best and I’ve tried others, it truly gave me my health back. I truly wished they brought out a 10K version as this is wonderfully done and others options are no where near as good..Version: 1.12.1

Natural171What a fantastic app, it’s an app that has always stayed on my phone! I have never been a runner, however this is the only running app I will use, it like having a Personal Trainer in your ear that counts you down when you near to the end of run/walk. Motivational and it works!I decided to take up running to get fit as I didn't do any exercise apart from walking the dog. A friend recommended that I try the Couch to 5k programme and specifically this running app. When I started seven weeks ago running the 1min sessions was a struggle (yes I was that unfit) now I am on continuous 25min runs. The voice prompts are really helpful and the progression, whilst challenging, is very rewarding. I have now signed up for my local park run which I intend to do at the end of week 8, I may have to walk a bit but that's ok. Best fitness app!I used to be really fit and years on the couch neglecting my fitness meant I could barely run 1 minute without gasping for breath. I would push myself thinking I could run like I used to and then give up out of frustration. Get running changed all that by gradually bringing my fitness back up step by step. Exactly what I neededWell-paced and encouraging for the rank beginner, like me. I strung out the program a bit, but I was running longer than the goals by week 6. Week 7 and 8, I ran over 45 minutes each run. More important, it's taught me to look forward to my runs. I've always hated running, and now I can't wait for the next one! The absence of distance tracking is not a realproblem; the program focuses you on time. I am curious about the distances, and I'll move to another app now. But this one did its job well. Got me off the couch - and I love it!I've never been fit, the first run was hell - I could barely walk for 3 days afterwards. BUT, every week it has been getting easier. I'm midway through week 5 and still can't wait to get out there again tomorrow. Buy the app, download RunKeeper, and do week one (SLOWLY!). If you love it after that, get a heart rate watch, it's REALLY helpful to know when you're in "the zone", and it allows you to actually see how your body is working and improving. //UPDATE: in week 9 now and running 4.5KM in 32 non-stop minutes.
