Golf GPS SwingU for Negative User Reviews

Watch App is frustratingI have used this app in the non premium mode for about 6 months now. I love the app and look forward to seeing an updated handicap at the end of each round. However the most frustrating part is the watch app. It starts off well giving you yardage and also linked to for reds. However if you receive a call, text message or even the pop up to sign up to premium in the app it throws the watch app out. It comes out of the app on the watch and then have to constantly open the watch app to review yardage and score. This the Also stops the health tracking in apple fitness. I know I have walked more than 1 mile in a round of 18. I would pay the subscription for premium but this is the only thing holding me back as cannot guarantee this issue will be resolved if I pay the full premium price..Version: 7.3.10

Fine at firstSubmitted my local course and it was added within a day. However, paired with my Apple Watch (6) at times it started to get stupid and not display yardages or give an error saying “looking for a round”. Going directly to the phone was an option that had to be done in order to get yardages and frequently get an error stating Not near hole.. I changed the setting for how often it checks gps about halfway through the season (uses more battery) to the most frequent and still it has issues. Frequently have to change setting to never get location in Privacy>Location Services then open the app and then change the setting back to Always and then shutdown and reopen the app. The most aggravating part however is when you finish 9 or 18 holes and it registers your score but the Fitness/Activity app reports zero time/calories/exercise minutes .. I used this for the entire summer, close to 100 or more rounds (9 hole course) to get a feel for this app. I would certainly use another app if it was less frustrating than this one..Version: 7.6.6

SwingU supportThe app is frustrating as there is not a manual that gives u step by step instructions plus instructions on how to use it with Apple Watch Thinking of cancelling.Version: 7.6.1

MarginalTried to on course with watch and it kept dropping GPS (in Canterbury NZ) and did not always change holes..Version: 7.5.3

SwingUPretty good when using free version. A bit clunky to enter scores and move around in the app. I find the google earth looking display difficult to differentiate traps water and tree shadow though..Version: 7.8.4

There are better alternativesTrialed the premium version for a week (3 rounds). Pretty slick platform with loads of data and statistics (which I like). Club tracking is chunky and no option for automatic tracking like GolfShot has. The interface with AppleWatch is also lacking big time towards competitors, and almost unusable. Love the green view. Sticking with GolfShot premium for now..Version: 7.6.3

Ruined by updatesHad this free app for years & it’s been great & recommend it to everyone I knew. However after the most recent update, it’s now poor & very basic. I’ve always known you can upgrade & get many extra features, which is fine, but was never interested in the extras etc. But now with the new update, you barely get any information on your rounds, hence it’s become vary basic, I assume, you now have to upgrade to get any kind of information on your previous rounds. Very disappointed & now searching for a new app 🤷‍♂️.Version: 8.3.0

Hard with Apple WatchTougher to pair with Apple Watch.Version: 7.5.4

Long time user disappointedPretty disappointed with the recent update. Instead of adding value to encourage paying for the upgraded version of the app, they removed features from users who don’t pay for the app. They even admit it by saying, “Traditional stats haven’t aged well” when looking at post round stats. With over 100 rounds logged, I guess I’ll start looking at other apps. Edit - the developer’s response of “You simply need to tap on the Detailed Scorecard option” is a lazy response. The detailed scorecard doesn’t show stats on the free version, which was my original frustration in the review above. Stats such as % GIR have been removed and now require you to pay for the app. There are other apps with better GPS and stats for free..Version: 8.3.2

Stuck choosing how far I hit a 7 ironI am stuck on this screen, I have closed the app and even turned my phone off and on. I have paid for a year and now I can’t even use the app.Version: 6.0.10

DisappointingI have had this app for a few years and it used to be good, but over time it has slowed down and takes a long time to get info - often on the wrong hole and it takes 2-3 mins to respond to entering the correct hole. I am not interested in all the wizz bang add-ons, I just want to know the distance to the hole. Maybe it's because I haven't signed up for Looper that performance falls off!.Version: 4.4.9

App ok, but watch gps laggy and wrong.Apart from the huge number of adds, I liked the app. I’d did find however the gps distances on my watch was just wrong. In the end never looked at them. I also noticed that although I finished the round on my watch, my phone didn’t know things had ended. Also the score on my watch was 1 shot different to the phone. Weird as..Version: 7.8.0

What happened to my Stats? With the recent update, I need to upgrade and pay more for what was included before. I used to be able to look at driving, putting, and other stats and compare it to year to date performance. Another example of shrinkflation..Version: 8.3.0

Keeps disconnecting from my Apple WatchI had the pro subscription and cancelled it this year as I found more and more that my Apple watch was disconnecting mid round. Yes I have it setup according to the app specifications. I enjoy focusing all my effort on getting a scoring app to work correctly on my watch instead of focusing on the game. If I was told this issue is fixed I would try the free version again to confirm before subscribing..Version: 7.6.5

Below averageThe distances to the green take forever to appear on your watch if at all. Was expecting much more. Hole 19 much better in this regard..Version: 7.6.3

Always freezesNot good always freezes after updates and never loads. Waste of good hard earned money. Will be looking for a another app to record stats with now..Version: 5.0.35

My previous subscription is now useless.I was a paying subscriber. With the latest update, they removed valuable information that I was using, trying to force me to buy an even higher subscription. I will be removing this app. No loyalty to or consideration for the previous subscribers..Version: 8.3.0

Not greatApp stopped tracking distances after 7 holes..Version: 7.3.7

Yards only option would be great for Apple WatchI used this for the first time today. I accessed the golf GPS from my Apple Watch linked to my iPhone. It was not a good experience. Way too much required interaction with the app. It has some interesting features, but all I really need is for the GPS to give me accurate yardage. For nearly every shot I really don’t want anything else. If I need wind and heuristic learning about my club lengths, then I can fuss with that later as a veteran user of your app. I am trying to avoid purchasing a hand-held GPS range finder which does the simple task of yardage. The app needs a setting which is yardage only and give me the option to set that display as my default. I do not want to enter my score digitally or enter my club used or get instructions on the course. The apple watch is too small to do that data entry on the course, the data entry right hand has a glove, and it slows down play. Suggest making a simple swipe of apple watch screen to advance to next hole. This needs to be automatic with very little input from me. Wrist up —> display gives me yards to green. That’s all I really need. I can do all the rest. If this is not an available simply option, then I’m deleting this app and will simply get a hand-held GPS range finder or find another Apple Watch golf GPS app that has option for yardage-only modes. Any feedback?.Version: 7.0.3

Not enough featuresToo many locked up features behind pay wall.Version: 8.0.1

SadI used to absolutely love this app. It was an amazing free app to use for golf. Now they have taken away almost every feature unless you pay for it. Very disappointed and will stop using app..Version: 7.6.3

Not user friendlyFor the price I don’t find the app user friendly.Version: 7.6.3

Watch doesn’t work with the app.Worked for the first round, now the watch is constantly searching for round. All the settings are the same and the I watch app opens by itself when the phone app is working. Paid for premium and Very dissatisfied.Version: 7.3.7

Not as good as it used to beI’ve always really liked SwingU for recording basic round info and even the free version would give a breakdown of things like putts, GIR etc split by par 3/4/5. The paid version offered even more with strokes gained info and so on but it was always nice to have the option of just using a good free version. Unfortunately the latest update seems to have removed more of the free features. It’s so basic now that the appeal has greatly reduced and it’s not really worth using the free version. I understand why they’re trying to push the subscriptions but the reality is there are now better free golf apps out there so, if that’s what you’re after, switch to one of those like I recently have..Version: 8.3.1

Not free$$$ not free.Version: 8.0.3

Not accurateI tried the free trial of the Pro form of this app… I liked some of it on my Apple Watch but there were locations on my course where the distances were very inaccurate! I was 76 yards out on the 18th hole and Swingu measured it as 130 yards! That’s not a minor discrepancy! I cancelled!.Version: 8.0.2

SwingU disconnecting all the timeThe app would be great if it didn’t disconnect all the time from my Apple Watch. I have all the settings they suggest but it is unstable. Also eats battery on phone.Version: 7.5.4

Quit working on my Apple WatchI really liked the app and all the funtionality. The overhead satellite shots and distance calculation seems to be second to none. It had a really great interface with my watch, and gave me front middle and back of green distance. Also incredibly easy to enter in scores and know where you are in the round. Recently I found that a local course did not match up with my scorecard. I went on the website to edit the golf course, and they did have the correct information on their website. However, in my app the back nine was incorrect for nearly every hole. Their support got back to me quickly, but something is not right between the scorecard on my app and what they show on the website. For the last three weeks, I have not been able to use my Apple Watch with the app. I work for a company that uses Apple exclusively, and I’m all up-to-date with the latest technology. I’ve gone online and spent half an hour going through mediocre instructions on how to set up the watch. It is all to no avail. It’s very frustrating having to pull out your phone all the time and not be able to use your watch. I am going to try GolfLogix. If the watch functionality works, it has five stars. Without the watch, three stars at best. To be clear, I used this for a year and a half with no problems, then all of a sudden around the beginning of June my watch no longer worked with the app..Version: 7.0.28

Losing roundsI love this app, but i keep losing rounds with it. I finish a round view my final card and the next time i start using it i find my previous round is in progress without a scorecard present. When i pause and finish the new round my previous round disappears..Version: 6.0.9

Give me a simple but detailed GPS appWhy does everyone want to load all of these features and complexities into the app? All I want is an expensive GPS that delivers information to my phone and even more importantly to my Apple Watch Ultra. Mo It’s all about distances. Distance to the middle of the green front of the green back of the green. Distances to key hazards. Elevation information would be a plus even better details of green contours. What I really want is the equivalent of that little book that the pros and their caddies carry. I really don’t care about tracking information on how far along I hit a shot or what club I use or any other training materials. just help me when I’m playing! Why is it too much to ask? Frankly, I pay the same amount of money that you’re asking for just that. When you had all these other complications, makes me harder to use with things that I don’t need or want and the value goes down so I’m not paying for it. So, what do I use instead? The GHIN app on the phone gives me distance to the middle of the green, and I can sort of get distances to hazards. I augment that with a laser. That’s your competition..Version: 8.3.1

Tricks you into subscribingGave me option for a 7 day trial, clicked ok, and it charged for the full year. $150+. Also rarely works with my Apple Watch which makes it next to useless..Version: 7.4.0

Completely UnusableHave had this app for a few years now. I used to be able to use it on the course and it was pretty reliable but now it is completely unusable. I am able start the round and by the time I get to my first tee shot and check the distance to the pin the app crashes and all I see is a white screen. Some times I am to restart the app and get more then a white screen. Sometimes I am even able to enter a score, mostly though I am not. Once in awhile it will locate me on the course after restarting but then it will crash and back to a white screen it goes. I have been able to enter the scores at home when I use my iPad so I can track my rounds but the app is complete useless on my iPhone. I am not sure if these problems are because I have an iPhone 4s but all this started when the app was redone. Currently looking at dedicated gps devices right now..Version: 6.0.3

App unstable on apple watch; drains batteryContinual problems with this app. Time for a stand-alone device..Version: 7.6.1

Was betterThe primary reason I had got this app previously was for the instruction content. Specifically I wanted to follow Mark Blackburn’s information as his app is no longer available. At first the app was nice cause I could search for his stuff specifically and I even bought the paid version. However with the recent changes you can’t filter by instructors. This was an important feature as players don’t want a myriad of different instructors and philosophies that may contradict. Because of this I uninstalled and was issued a refund. Great customer service but for me no reason to pay for and there are other gps and stay systems out there..Version: 8.0.3

Could be good if bugs removedI have been trying to use this for several weeks now, but have yet to be able to correctly enter the score for a full round on my watch. At some point in a round, and usually more than once,I will find the app expects score entry for the next hole rather than the current one. Worse, there seems to be no way to go back, nor any way to edit the score for a hole once the app has moved on. These two features render the watch app effectively useless, so I intend to remove SwingU and find a better solution, rather than paying the Premium subscriptionas I had intended..Version: 7.4.0

Apple WatchIs anyone having issues getting their apple watch to sync. My watch will not sync, It is an okder version but it work last summer..Version: 8.0.2

Using mobile data doesn’t work anymoreI’m on iPhone 12 and the latest version just doesn’t load on the golf course for me anymore. Works fine on WiFi and it used to work on my course fine until the update, now it just has a connection error whenever I’m on mobile data. I’ve read that you can start the round on WiFi and download the course maps prior to going out, so I’ll try that. But I shouldn’t have to..Version: 8.0.1

High hopes, but Not so much....With high hopes for a good GPS function that syncs with Apple Watch, I’ve given this app several months and rounds. You have to keep the phone on and with you (in range of watch), and with all settings as recommended by Seller, the phone part works ok with distances, flyovers, etc. It’s interface with the watch is at best spotty, and often needs a swipe, reboot, or other maneuver to get the data to display on the watch, even in areas with strong cell signals. Using the scoring function was also variable; sometimes it took the data entries, sometimes not, and then needed essentially a restart to get to the data entry screen. Pretty annoying to have teed off the next hole and find the app is stuck on the prior hole. I often turned off the scoring function, as it was frustrating, inconsistent and too much trouble overall. On a course you don’t know, the phone’s hole diagram and flyover could help. On a familiar course, it is “meh” at best. I’m happier with my several years old Bushnell Neo GPS watch every day..Version: 7.0.26

When is Stableford scoring going to come backI’ve used this app for the past couple of years and absolutely love it. Would give it 5 stars until the Stableford scoring was removed. Is this going to be put back in place and if so when? I don’t want to go back to using Golf Pad but see no choice if this is going to continue much longer..Version: 7.3.10

Poor experienceCould be a good app just doesn’t work in my country very well (NZ). Didn’t record some of my shots. The distance recording was iffy. Sometimes worked and was good but not consistent. I guess it’s made more for US courses..Version: 7.6.3

App is buggy, freezes, sometimes tracks workoutsI have the paid version. Paid for a year but will look elsewhere after that’s done. The gps part is good, syncs and gives fairly accurate scores. However, the app constantly minimizes to background on watch. I constantly have to reopen the app so it shows on the watch face. Super annoying. Every 3 or 4 times when I open the app on my phone to start a round, it freezes and I have to close the app and reopen it. There is also a sync feature where if you play a round it counts as a workout on your activities under golf. This works maybe 1 out of every 10 times I play. I play golf almost everyday and this app overall is decent but with the bugs it becomes fairly annoying while on the course, especially since I play so often I notice it a lot more..Version: 7.0.29

Very good app, not great on the watch. This is the last out of four apps I’ve been testing. While I haven’t signed up to premium, this app is the closest to make me almost do it. The app itself on mobile is great! Very clear, accurate, easy to work - worth downloading and using just for the free one. However, only seems to record the golf session on Apples activity tracker when it wants (Not a big deal, but a tad annoying). The Apple Watch app, not so great. Running version WatchOS 6.2.6, the app closes every 5 minutes so I have to reopen the app on every shot which is annoying. Location settings are on “always” and the app has full permissions. Also, a feature request, add a small image of the course to the watch screen. That’s really handy and will provide value to the user. Other than that, great app, fantastic potential, and if the watch app gets fixed, I’d happily give this 5* and pay for premium..Version: 7.0.26

Barely ok but functional App on the phone but non functional on iWatchHad this app for a while now on my Apple iPhone and iWatch. Somewhat acceptable phone app like most other similar apps. No must have feature. But don’t know why this app insists that the location tracking setting set to “Always” on iPhone, while most other similar apps don’t require that but function fine when you open and use them. It just ends up draining battery end of 18 holes. I compare it with another app that allows even GPS to be turned off within the app with a simple click. Battery performance of this app on phone is relatively poor. However, worst is on iWatch - Practically useless and non functional on Apple iWatch (no GPS). Always freezes and doesn’t sync up with the game and the phone app even if phone is in trouser pocket and watch on wrist. At moments I need distance the most, it’s annoying to see it has crapped out 🥵.Version: 7.6.2

Too restrictive with the featuresI got the app to help with handicap but I cannot even use the feature. Ok with location information. Did not realise was a manual entry app. Needs some work..Version: 7.0.24

GPS too erratic recentlyHave used this app from the very early days and have been very impressed up until recently - last 3 or 4 months when the gps is just too erratic, very slow updating and before last update completely freezing - I’ve investigated all app settings but can’t get it to perform as it used too. Shame as I’m beginning to fall out of love with it and have gone to laser - but miss the advantage of having the whole hole view gps performing as it used to quickly. Wish it would just perform as accurate and quickly as previous..Version: 6.0.6

Stolen moneyWeird how I cancel a subscription in January and then get charged $150 in march when I don’t even use the app!!!!!!! Would love a refund asap.Version: 7.8.4

FrustratingThe free functions are great if not a little buggy. The bird’s eye view allows you to see yardage from the tee and any point you choose on the hole. When on the course it will tell you yardage from where ever you are to the flag. There are a lot of courses too. All courses in my area, including a small municipal course, are on the app. The frustration is with the paid features. It’s supposed to let you track shot yardage. You select the club you are swinging then tell the app you are starting of the shot. Once you swing, you walk to the ball then end your shot to record yardage. This option is very buggy. Sometimes it doesn’t start recording the swing. Other times it doesn’t end the swing. At times yardage from a second shot seems to record back to the tee giving crazy yardage— I’m know I cannot hit my 4 iron 300 yards. The score keeping feature has bugs as well. Keep a paper score as backup if you care about tracking your rounds. This could be a great app but there a lot of issues with bugs making the app for unreliable for anything but yards to the green..Version: 7.0.35

Really poor and super frustrating on Apple WatchTrying to use this app on Apple Watch is simply impossible. It freezes on holes even if the phone app has moved on. You enter the score and expect to advance the the next hole and it doesn't move (sometime it does and sometimes not). When it hangs you can do nothing! Restart the app on the watch and its still stuck. Turn the watch on/off and its still stuck. You end up deleting the game and score card off the phone and starting again. I am going back to my old golf watch until the developers have sorted it..Version: 7.0.26

Does not synch properlyHave used the app for about 3 years. Just in the past year it no longer synchs between the apple phone and Apple Watch. Terribly frustrating and will cancel subscription.Version: 7.5.4

GpsMaybe it’s just me as it seems to get decent reviews, but when I use this it will say for example 145 yards, have the green banner showing the gps is locked on...... hit my shot 20 yards to far look again and it’s changed to 125 yards. I’ve just got a gps watch and check it today and the yardage’s on here are quite often wrong. Will go back to a previous app I used to get distances for hazards etc..Version: 5.0.43

Golf des Iles SlySeems hole number one was the 10th and the tenth was the first.. Couldn’t put it in the proper order...Version: 7.6.6

Good but glitchySometimes works perfectly for whole rounds but others it glitches badly. Drops off and loses location and Apple Watch shows blank distances until app is restarted on iPhone. Sometimes logs as a workout on Apple Watch but often doesn’t. Can’t work out the inconsistencies.Version: 7.3.3

Not accurateNice little app but the distances do not appear accurate at all. Sone 20 yards off..Version: 8.0.3

Worst gps app yetI have tried half dozen golf gps apps and this is the worst. Not even worth the effort to try it.Version: 7.3.7

Great app but has major flawsI have been using this app for about 4-5 months now and I’d say if you are happy just using your phone it’s great. I want to use it with my Apple Watch and the watch keeps freezing so I’m having to just close the app on my watch and use my phone all the time. If the watch function was good and I could complete a round with it I’d give it 5 stars 100%. It does have some great features especially for a newbie like me and my favourite is the club suggestion. From what I can see a lot of people are having the same issue with the Apple Watch. Please sort this and you’re on to a winner!.Version: 7.0.23

UselessDistances are constantly wrong. Shows as being 200m away when standing next to the 135m mark on the fairway. Keeps switching holes before you’ve even made it to the green. Horrible..Version: 5.0.44

Very crankyApp is very unpredictable. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. When complain about it, mostly was informed to delete and reinstall. Got tired of that. Today the watch feature did not work at all but phone function worked. It did not record any info about steps etc. Last time both the phone and watch and step count worked until hole 11 and it all stopped. Consider getting an app that actually always works as this is very frustrating. Update: first day if golf both app and watch worked great. Second day, same course, same weather, app on watch never worked and app worked a few holes and then stopped. Very very frustrating..Version: 7.5.0

Every update gets worseThis app used to be great, which is why I upgraded to premium. But over the past month it seems to have introduced a bug into the Apple Watch app. Now the app randomly loads itself up on my watch throughout the day as if I'm playing a round, this is draining my watch battery. Used 35% in 3 hours this morning after turning itself on, so I've had to delete the app until my next round. Very dissapointing.Version: 7.8.0

Problems getting it to sync with Apple WatchI had great hopes for this app and was looking forward to using it for the first time two weeks ago. I only get the chance to play every couple of weeks and downloaded the app well in advance to get used to the features and to make sure it was set up correctly. During this time I got the usual purchase premium now messages every couple of days. I was tempted and planned to subscribe but I wanted to try the free version to make sure It was right for me and I am really glad that I waited. I got to the course and everything looked great until I reached the first tee and the app kept freezing, on my 11 pro max, it was also froze up on my Apple Watch V2 and give distances (dotted lines) and wouldn’t move on to the next hole. There maybe a simple fix I contacted the support team for help and may give it another go..Version: 7.0.32

Not on or near the holeHi Bought the app and premium access since my Garmin watch cracked and was given an Apple Watch. I like the tips and have started the 1-1 lessons and drills which seem good so far. However, typically play my home course Porters Park and 3 out of 6 times I have used the app freezes in between the 10th and 11th hole and warning says “ looks like you are not on or near a hole”. It does not pick up again until you pause the round and turn the app off and back on. Settings are all set to allow gps always. At the moment I will not be renewing subscription next year and probably buy a Garmin since it just worked no issues. Shame as good app..Version: 7.0.30

DisappointingI had high hopes with a few mates using this app. First round of use and I’m stood on the first tee and the app wouldn’t play ball as it thought I wasn’t on or near that hole. After some restarts etc it worked... for that hole only and began being a pain on the second tee. I checked google maps and other location/gps apps to see if it was my phone issue and they were all perfect. I had heard great things about the app and was looking forward to checking my Apple Watch for distances etc but ended up annoyed and disappointed. Back to the good old paper scorecard and course map!.Version: 7.0.29

Apps freeze mid-round 🤬I’ve been using the free iPhone app and Apple Watch app for over a year, every week. Sometimes they both work, but other times they suddenly freeze up in the middle of a round. Fortunately, I’ve been able to use the iPhone app when the Watch app is frozen — and vice versa. But what a hassle and disappointment. On a few occasions, the Watch app has turned on while I’m sleeping, looking for a round — another buggy bizarre situation. And on other occasions, while the apps are functioning normally, the Watch app fails to sync with Apple Watch workouts — so after walking 16,000 steps on the course, it looks like I’ve done nothing. On the plus side, the shot tracking feature works great. I wish there was an app that did ONLY shot tracking when you don’t need the other functionality. Because of the buggy freezing problems, I will not be paying to upgrade and neither should you..Version: 7.7.1

Not great on Apple WatchThe GPS seemed to struggle to keep up and took a while to actually sync and provide a yardage when walking to a shot. Also, it seemed to not register unless the app was open on mobile? Lastly, I wanted to purely use this for a yardage app so it was a little annoying to have to enter scores after each hole - especially as it didn’t ‘move’ to the next hole until a score was entered. The functionality and features are all there to be a great app but I feel like too many features have been crammed in which affect the UX. Personally I just want an app where I can look down at my watch at any point during a round and an accurate yardage will be provided - unfortunately this doesn’t provide that..Version: 7.0.29

Falls a little shortI went to download and realized I had previously used this app only to remove it later. Tried it again and going to remove again. On the phone it appears and functions great. So, if that's your bag, SwingU away. However, I want to use this on my Apple Watch and not play with my phone tethered to me. Unfortunately the app does not fully utilize the watch gps and appears to just run on the phone, using the watch as a somewhat extended control/display. Get a few feet from the phone and the display goes blank. It is unrealistic to be near the golf cart on every shot so it is rendered useless for half the time. Interface is nice but this is a show stopper for me..Version: 7.6.0

Constant server issuesJust renewed for the year and I wish I had just changed over to Golf Shot. Constant server issues means I can't pull up my scores or stats (so what am I paying for?!?) Watch support is terrible. If you turn your phone screen off to save battery, then you get no info through on the watch. 🙄 This is absolutely pointless! Also, why do we not have auto shot detection with Apple watch the way Golf Shot does?! This app used to be the best and now it's lagging terribly behind. Pun intended. My advice. Spend your money with Golf Shot instead. You get images of the entire course on your watch, and auto shot detection so you can track how far you hit each club. It even gives you an AR overview of the shots you've hit! Might just cut my losses and pay for that and stop using this..Version: 7.6.2

Accuracy questionableGenerally I really liked the interface on the watch app. But two serious questions about it that make it not suitable for me. Firstly- it is regularly reads 5-10 yards different from my Garmin. This is unacceptable. I get that it might be the iPhone GPS rather than the app itself but if I cannot rely on the data, what’s the point in having an app. Secondly - why can I not change hole on the watch, there seems to be no way to just swipe or click for the next hole. Unless you enter a score, but with no way to change back to previous hole to correct score or move onto next hole if I am not recoding score, it seems like a great app missing an obvious feature..Version: 7.8.4

Connection issuesConstantly disconnects from Apple Watch. Real frustrating..Version: 7.3.7

TrickyThey fooled me into subscribing for a year, because I hit “back” from the free-trial screen after missing the “plus” option, selected the plus option, and then “continue”, which subscribed me. So congratulations to them for that. They don’t link to my GHIN handicap, which means that I’m still holding on to GolfShot for now, because GolfShot automatically calculates my “net double bogey” score and will post directly to GHIN. On the plus side, they have a “plays like” feature, which is very useful, and green maps, which are more accurate than my app-less reading. The implementation is annoying, though, because as soon as I’m on the green, before I can click the button for the green map, it pops up the Score window, which I then have to cancel to get to the green map. However, if I’m tracking the shot I hit to the green, I can work around this by hitting the green map, then lining up my putt, then finishing the tracking of the shot. Another thing it doesn’t do is let me track my putts. I don’t know why. So in sum, I am using this for a year, after which time I might try the GHIN app, which has no free trial period..Version: 8.2.0

App not loading with new updateJust did the update now after the warning to make sure location settings are set to always it goes straight to a white screen & wont load.Version: 5.034

New update is awfulHave used this app for years and really liked it. The new update has made it very difficult to understand the Stats page. You used to be able to very clearly see your round and that of your playing partner. Now it is a complicated screen- you can’t even see the 18 hole score for your partners. Have to navigate front 9 / back 9 and add it all up. Also when starting a round it’s more complex setting up players and adding handicaps. This app has gone from being very easy to use, to really difficult. Please revert to previous version…!!!.Version: 8.3.1

Detailed Stats is a confusing messSigned up for the 7 day trial and it has renewed on the 7th day with no way to cancel it. Now stuck for the next 12 months..Version: 8.3.0

How does this have 4.7*?I recently made the move to Apple Watch, so I have been testing the different apps. Thought I would give this one a go and was not impressed with the free version. Like most apps on here, I assumed it just worked better if you pay for it. Couldn’t have been more wrong. To be clear, the app itself on the iPhone is fine. It’s the connection with Apple Watch that is the issue but that’s the whole point of getting these apps; right? You can’t get more than a foot away from your phone. Taking 5 steps to get a precise read? Forget it, have to get closer to your phone so it eventually reloads the app on the watch and you get the distance. Crashes a ton. If you’re going to spend money, do yourself a favor and just get 18Biridies. At least it works..Version: 7.6.5

Watch capabilityUsed to be good, now just asks to close the app and reopen again - which I have done 30+ times along with phone and watch resets. Can’t quite believe the amount of feedback you’ve had regarding the problems with the watch, clearly falling on deaf ears as nothing has changed or seems likely to. Won’t be purchasing paid edition until the watch issues are fixed..Version: 7.0.25

New userThe app is accurate, clear and easy to use. All in all I really like the phone app and based on that it would be a 5 star rating. The reason it’s dropped to 2 was for the watch capability (the only reason I want a golf app). Always having to wake up the app. Closes itself between shots. Waiting for yardage to reset and very slow in general. If I’d never tried competitor apps I think I’d be happy but the watch side of the app needs to be improved majorly as I am going back to a free version of their main competitor (not naming names) as the free version is better than this paid one. I have to admit, I signed up to looper without trying the app properly first and now I wish I could go back and undo my error..Version: 6.0.10

Swing U VersusThis was a total waste of time and money. All this does is focuses on the distance of each of your shots once your off the box. You say it’s for analysis and for swing u to send you advice on each type of shot you had. First of all it obvious only keeps track of 1 individual game at a time. Therefore if you have a tree sitting right in the middle of the fairway and you have to go over and around it, the app can’t see that and just treats it as a normal shot. There’s no room for analysis, and whatever analysis the app gives you would be counterproductive. Why do bunker shots only matter from 50 yds in? Just because you have to have a different type of swing from inside that distance. Doesn’t really make much sense. Why only cover recovery shots from certain distances? Also I’m at the point where if I miss the green on a chip from inside 50yds, I’m going home. This whole portion of stats are now just useless for me and just takes time for me to plug in. Swing U Versus just takes too long to record. The old way was 10x better. It looks like you guys are trying to be too sexy. Keep it simple, keep it about accuracy and the important factors that make golfers better. Distance is not one of them. If you can’t hit an approach accurately from 100yds you certainly can’t do it from 200yds so why keep track of that? Why would you want to focus on something you already know you need to improve? It’s redundant.Version: 7.3.2

AverageGreat images and decent in hole usage - scoring system and stats, score card features not as easy to use or intuitive as other apps.Version: 7.0.25

Kept having to refreshSeems like a good app and the GPS/ yardage is pretty good however I had to keep closing and refreshing the app and eventually it stoped pairing with my watch. Maybe better if you pay the full amount rather than the free version and if this promised to work I would definitely look at paying the full price!.Version: 7.3.10

UNUSABLE for Stableford in AustraliaGreat App, but given the well accepted tradition of 'picking up' in Stableford competitions it impossible to score any rounds where you have done this and maintain your stats, without making some scores up, unless of course you score every hole. It is compulsory to score detail about your putting and drive which is great, but sometimes you just need basic scoring so it should have an option for that. Easy things for the developer to fix, will re-rate when resolved..Version: 5.0.39

“Share My Round” needs to be front and center available at all timesRidiculous that “Share my round” is so difficult to find and is not available after the round is saved. This is a BASIC function that should be incredibly easy to find and available at any time. Have any of the developers played golf with friends? Do they have friends?.Version: 7.3.10

Not nice on Apple WatchIt takes a while to catch up on Apple Watch and always drops out. Hard to enter score.Version: 6.0.0

Tough to rely onYou’ll need a strong cell signal for it to work consistently for 18 holes. It has crashed out on me regularly in frisco tx. There is a strange default to using “always” for location that absolutely kills an iPhone 11 battery in 11-12 holes. It even drained my battery while it was using a usb charger during a round. The elevation data is pretty straightforward, but the wind data seemed to update in a delayed fashion, I am guessing it updates every 10-15 minutes. Some shots, wind is clearly howling and app reflects that and gives you a good “plays like” yardage, but there are too many readings where the wind is clearly not as shown in app- like a flat flag and it’s showing 20 mph indicating the wind readings are not real-time, and the “plays like” yardage can be off by 20-30 yards. Maybe it’s just Texas winds...but the advertised accuracy taking into account wind and elevation, which is why I purchased, is simply not reliable. Disappointed and would take a refund if offered..Version: 7.0.23

I wanted this to workAs a 3 handicap I wanted this app to help me with my club yardages. I wanted to use it with my Apple Watch so that I don’t have to carry my phone in my pocket when playing. It was very inconsistent with the yardages and if I wasn’t close enough to my phone it would not work at all. It’s also a lot to keep track of when you are also trying to focus on your round. I paid for a year subscription like a dummy but if it worked I would have been ok with it. I reached out twice to customer service over the next month to try and cancel it and attempt to get a refund for the full year and volunteered to pay for 1 month instead since I did try and use it and just didn’t work out. Customer service never reached out so I just gave up on it. Then about 4 months later I decided to try again for the 3rd time and warned about leaving a 1 star review and customer service actually reached back out. Customer service agent Adam Cattel told me that he would not issue the refund because I have been using the app for several months now and there was no emails on record from me. I forwarded the emails to him stating that I in fact did try and reach out and that if you look at my account you can see that I only tried the app on 2 courses within the first month. Never heard from him again. So here we are. Long story short. Don’t waste your money on this app..Version: 7.4.0

It was goodI used to rely on this heavily but since the upgrade the distance on the watch has been unreliable. So unreliable that I just don’t look at it anymore. Also when I enter my score on the watch it sometimes doesn’t transfer to the phone. Now I’ve cancelled my membership and I’m looking for another app that can replace what used to be the best in the game..Version: 7.8.0

Doesn’t WorkI tried to subscribe to Swing U today, but before I did, I wanted to check what courses were available. Good thing I checked before buying a subscription because I get a message that it’s “unable to connect to our servers. Please check your connection and try again later” I can’t imagine how frustrating this would be if I had actually paid for this app and got in the middle of an actual round of golf and this happened. Then, I tried to set up an account on this app and I still haven’t gotten a response from them to verify my email. Also, I live in an area with 2 PGA Tour Superstores within 100 miles of me, so that should indicate how popular golf is in my area of play. There are ZERO courses within that same 100 miles that this app has the green-reading feature available for. It seems this app has serious technical issues and shortcomings, so until I’m satisfied they have been fixed and not likely to crop up again in the future, I’ll spend my money on an app that actually works and has the features it advertises..Version: 7.6.2

Looked good originallyWas initially excited about this app; trying free version before committing. But it was time consuming and distracting to keep entering stuff on the course. And—-relentless ads to upgrade, multiple times a day. This morning, while walking our dog, miles away from the course, my watch was beeping to get me to upgrade, and giving me ‘yardages’. DELETED.Version: 7.8.1

Disappointed with the Apple Watch appHave used SwingU on the iPhone for quite awhile. It has been a pretty good free app for gps distances and scoring. However, I just got an Apple Watch series 5. I was looking forward to the phone app, but have been VERY disappointed in how it functions. My phone holster is a horizontal holster , and as soon as I put the phone in the holster the watch loses the gps yardage. This is because the scorecard replaces the yardage screen immediately when rotated. There is no setting to turn this off. If I have to pull the phone out of the case to make it vertical, then I don’t need the watch app. The watch doesn’t very often provide the yardage under these circumstances. I can’t be the only one with a horizontal belt phone holster..Version: 7.0.26

Recent updates not welcomedRecently, the app keep “whitening out”and does not respond unless you restart it. Almost 20-30 times during a 18-hole game..Version: 6.0.4

Doesn’t SyncOver the last year there has been trouble “finding a round” on the Apple Watch. It doesn’t sync even when restarting the app. The only thing that worked was completely restarting my watch from scratch. A bug that needs to be fixed..Version: 7.5.4

Used to love it, but…This used to be my favorite golf GPS app. I’ve been using it for years, but I’m looking for something else now. It used to be clean and simple to open and run. Recent updates have now made it a pain to use. I want an app that opens, runs, and gives me what I need. I don’t want to interact with offers. I don’t want to dig through junk to get the course opened and my round underway. I know the developers have to make money, and I understand that this is the way they think they should go, but I disagree. I’ve reached the point now where I hate even tapping the icon. I will be using something else in the future. BTW, credit where credit is due. The app does provide the basic functions well, once you wade your way through the mess. For that, I give it two stars..Version: 7.2.1
