Audubon Bird Guide for Positive User Reviews

Works very wellWorks great.. but sometimes bird identification helper returns zero even with only 1 category selected like ducks size. Adding bird sightings would be good if you could ignore adding a custom sighing spot. Thanks for the wonderful app. Will donate.Version: 5.1.5

👍🏼Great App! Works quite well!❤️👍🏼.Version: 5.4.15

Worth the money!I live in the UK, but travel regularly to the USA on vacation which always includes bird watching The variety of species is stunning and in the past, I would purchase books to help with bird identification whilst travelling This app covers everything a bird watcher needs including help with identification as well as recent sightings when visiting a particular area. It also plays songs and calls which really can help with Identification The photographs are excellent, with zoom capability should you need to focus in on a specific area of plumage or anatomy All in all, separate books will cost far more and deliver much less than this excellent app Buy it!!.Version: 3.1

Great AppHas been invaluable to me as I learn birding..Version: 5.4.9

Thank You for Bringing Back Landscape!!2020-04-03: Thank you for bringing back LANDSCAPE!! FIVE (5) stars for you!! ORIGINAL REVIEW: App NO Longer Works in LANDSCAPE. The ipad is not a large, phone-less iPhone, nor is it a large iPod Touch. iPad users work in LANDSCAPE..Version: 5.4.3

Great for PhotographyThis app is a great help with my bird photography..Version: 5.2.7

Not into “birding”Even the term “birding” itself sounds like a nerdy version of an illegal act. But there were feeders outside our house when we bought it this fall and my kid wanted me to keep feeding the little beasties. Turns out seeing woodpeckers flit into the feeders, Cardinals brighten the back yard, and sparrows act like little flying teenagers was actually pretty entertaining. I got tired of saying, “look at that bigger bird on the right. No. The other one,” to my kids so I looked for a way to find their real names. That way is this app. Now I can enjoy the second nerdiest hobby in the privacy of my home! (First is is philately- look it up loser). Seriously the app is quick to load, doesn’t crash, and help ID birds. Get it..Version: 5.3.6

This app is amazing!I was told about this app 3 or 4 years ago. I absolutely love it. I share it will all our bird loving friends. I come out many evenings all play screech owl calls. Its always fun to hear them respond or fly up and land to check out whats happening. We live in central Texas and are amazed at the variety of birds we have each day and the the birds that pass thru for few days during migration. This app helps to identify them and recognize the songs!.Version: 6.3.0

LanguageIt would be amazing to have the app translated in different languages (for bird names personnally). Maybe only the bird names in a language selection box on each bird page. Bird name are often so weirdly translated. Great app though!.Version: 5.3.3

BirdsAn excellent tool for a Australian visitor to North Americ.Version: 3.1

Makes birding with mom so informative and fun!My mom and I are loving this app because of the calls that help us to better identify birds and the pictures. She has many Audubon books and has kept track of her sightings in them, so it’s a fun place for us to note the ones we see at home together. We like that we can see hot spots around us and get alerts on sightings, though we haven’t received any yet. Good for all ages and skill levels. My mom has dementia and has lost her ability to use her phone easily, so we use it together on my phone, but she has no issues with guidance..Version: 6.1.11

A world of birds to discover for all age groupsThis app is a joy. Easy to use. Excellent content and quality of bird images together with a variety of sounds they make. Take a few moments to really see the variety and profusion of birds with whom we share this planet..Version: 4.0

Great app, but I wish you did the same for your other guides!I have loved all of the Audubon apps and find them very useful. That is, the ones you still support. I love Audubon, but I am incredibly disappointed in the way you have handled the other apps including the guides on Butterflies, Fishes, Fishes of the Caribbean, Insects & Spiders, Mammals, Mushrooms, Reptiles & Amphibians, Trees, and Wildflowers. None of these apps can even be found on the app store anymore. I find it very disloyal to your customers to discontinue apps that they have purchased. If they were free, I wouldn't have a problem, but many of those apps won't even work anymore since IOS 11. Please update the apps or issue a refund to all of your customers..Version: 4.13

So far so goodI’ve literally just down loaded the app. So far so good. The only thing I’ve ran into was finding the Green Heron. I used google and found the bird and that’s how I found this app. When I downloaded the app I searched by description under Herons and in my area and it never showed the Green Heron. I typed it in manually and was able to track it. If I hadn't previously found this species on google I might have had a hard time because the app did not give me this Heron as an option. Otherwise, I’m enjoying the app and think others would too..Version: 5.2.3

Very helpful! Better than older reviews reflect!I was hoping the reviews from a couple years ago after an “update SNAFU” were not still relevant. It appears to work fine now and is quite helpful and intuitive. After only a few hours of use this old person could figure it out very fast. We recently moved to a remote island in Michigan. I needed some help identifying all of the many birds here, because our Audubon book can’t get to the island until next month. Very pleased with the ease of use, thanks folks!.Version: 5.4.15

Tweet! Tweet!Fantastic. Easy to use. Sounds are extremely helpful..Version: 5.2.8

Great AppReally good replacement for iBird. Would appreciate a fully embraced Dark Mode (white text on black background)..Version: 6.3.0

Great appGreat app. Just getting into birding and this app is such a great tool for helping to identify and learn about birds..Version: 5.1.1

Screen rotation.????Absolutely love this app, as i am an avid bird watcher... only thing i would change is the ability to rotate phone upside down so speaker is facing out whilst using calls and still be able to use app as normal.!!!! Otherwise Love It..!!!.Version: 6.0.8

The best!Easily my favourite app. Easy to do, and helps me learn a lot. I do wish there was a social component though as I want to see what birds my friends are seeing..Version: 5.4.16

Huge help! This app was definitely a huge help to me as I’m just getting into bird watching and it saves me from having to lug around the books I use to keep track of my sightings and the books I use to identify the birds! This app wraps that up into one nice little package!.Version: 5.4.7

Second Time’s The CharmI got this app several months back and used it once, but I found the interface annoying and the information I needed nigh inaccessible. About a week ago, curious about a tiny unknown bird in the yard, I downloaded it again, and I guess the second time’s the charm—I love it! I’m not sure if the interface has been redesigned, but for a (very) amateur birder like myself, all the information (BirdID 😍) is incredibly easy to find, and logging is simple. I’m stoked to finally feel like I have the tools necessarily to get deeper into birding—so if you get the app and you’re not sure, give it a chance!.Version: 5.2.7

Very, very, good.I downloaded this app, and I am delighted. If I ever go across the pond, this app comes with me. Mickey.Version: 3.1

SuperbThis app has opened so many doors for me and my wife. Growing up, I’d always wondered about the actual names and facts about my local flora and fauna, and this app delivers that ability to easily identify that I’ve so yearned for since childhood. I’ve been able to positively identify pretty much every bird in my area and out of state through location features on the app. DEFINITELY allow the app to use your location, as it will then recommend known birds of the area, which makes identification extremely easy. The bird call samples on the app also help big time. If you’ve always wanted to know the names of the birds you see every day, get this app. Truly magnificent.Version: 5.4.16

Back to being my go-to birding appI had been experiencing issues with the app crashing on certain pages so that I couldn’t log bird sightings. The developers reached out to me to figure out exactly what the issue was, and with the most recent update it works like a charm again! Great customer service. I like the search features to determine what kind of bird I’m seeing, and of course the ability to log them in my mobile life list. Especially as a new birder, this app is great for helping me identify birds in the field..Version: 5.0.10

Great referenceI like being able to explore sightings in my area to see what other birdwatchers are finding nearby. I enjoy using this app to find out more info on territories and eating habits of specific birds I am interested in. I love the audio files and pictures to help in identifying unfamiliar birds. Birdwatching with the help of this app is fun and I recommend it..Version: 5.4.13

Great so far!I’ve only been using app for a short time but I’ve really enjoyed it! It’s very user friendly and I love listening to all the calls while I read up on each bird!.Version: 5.4.7

Loving this app!App helped me quickly identify a bird this morning that I hadn’t seen before. Loving it!.Version: 5.4.5

Difficulty in logging past sightingsI am liking this app so much that I have been trying to transfer sightings logged in other apps to this one. However, the use of a skeuomorphic scroll wheel for inputting the date makes this rather frustrating, especially if the date requires scrolling back past a year. Please create a way to simply type in the date, or separate day and year so one doesn’t have to literally scroll back multiple hundreds of days to log past sightings. This is particularly important as there are sightings one may not likely get to repeat in their lifetime..Version: 6.2.4

Audubon BirdsExcellent. Very, very useful..Version: 3.1

ExcellentI often travel to the US from England and what a great app this is! Very easy to use and I can easily identify the birds I see using this app... And At 69p what a fantastic price too. Get this app, you won't be disappointed..Version: 2.0

Good, but clunky to navigateBeen using this app for years (since before it was free), primarily for the sounds and eBird sighting feature, but occasionally for range maps and visual IDs. Most of the time, it gets the job done. My biggest issue is the clunkiness of searching for species and using "Find Birds with eBird." It'd be nice to be able to search by four-letter codes (e.g. WTSP) and go directly to eBird sightings from a species profile page (many fewer birders use NatureShare). There are also some species, generally those with limited North American ranges, lacking recordings, especially recordings of calls..Version: 4.12

NickUsed this while on holiday to Canada. Lots of information, easy to use, photos and birdsong .Unidentifiable sightings can be posted online for input from other birders. Sightings of birds within a 30mile radius also given. Fantastic.Version: 4.9

Great for all to journal, keep & learnI am making good use of this spot for keeping track of daily sightings on our farm, and where ID’ing birds has become even more helpful and accurate. It is free, simple to navigate, encouraging, provides a place to maintain basically a space to journal with sighting details, and more, including ability to ask to receive info when other birds are seen in my area. I highly recommend this for beginners as that is how I started and am gradually learning more also about various accessible birding areas, though mainly keep up with and record what we see on our property in the countryside..Version: 6.0.7

Great appGreat app, will be amazing to have in French and Spanish too.Version: 5.4.15

Easy to Use!Great app!.Version: 5.2.7

Enjoyable App!Very nice for birding but there is room for improvement in indexing.... I also see birds that are not in the index? In Maine? It is nice to have this on my phone, though. I can’t carry a field guide everywhere but I do have the phone. I also shoot pics with a phone camera app (or with my 35mm) and I sm going to start putting the pics with my sightings. With a phone now my primary daily log, diary, journal - almost a life’s record - integrating the pleasures of watching birds into this fabric adds enjoyment... and that is always... enjoyable..Version: 5.2.8

Easy bird IDSelect size, colour, wind shape or a number of other categories to ID the bird you just saw easily and accurately. Also confuse your cat by playing recordings of various birds inside the house. ;).Version: 5.4.7

Dream for birdersFree to use app from well known and trusted name in the border community... see other bird sightings in your area too!.Version: 5.1.1

Fantastic Resource!I recently moved to a rural area and there were 2 feeders plus a bird bath in the tree. The owner of the house suggested what seeds to buy and it’s been steady flow of birds since March. I downloaded the app last night and have already identified 3 birds that I hadn’t seen in the city. Highly recommend this invaluable resource. 5 Stars!.Version: 5.4.4

Audubon birds of AmericaSuperb, a must have. Very informative..Version: 2.0

Update bug fixI love this app, it’s been very helpful for me as a new bird enthusiast being able to identify them and know their sounds and commonly found locations. However, since the update Thursday, I click on the app and all it shows is the home screen, can’t get past the main welcome screen to see any features. I know it’s probably just a glitch that needs adjusting as this happens often with other apps like SnapChat. But I just wanted to make sure developers were aware it’s not just an isolated incident. Hoping for an updated version soon..Version: 6.0.1

Old version better for breeding bird monitoringMy Audubon App that I had downloaded to my phone and had been using for years was automatically updated with a new online version that did not include the great selections of calls/songs present in the past App. I finally realized I had to again download the App to my phone for use away from a wi-fi signal and gain access to past content. Obsolete:Breeding bird monitoring done by ear and your latest versions have deleted the great selections of calls/songs that was in the original version that I used for 10-15 years. Looking for new app..Version: 5.2.8

Love it!!I’ve had this app for years. I live in Luna Pier along the shores of Lake Erie. I love the outdoors and bird watching. I’ve used this app to figure out what types of birds I rarely see that migrate through our area. I also use the call sounds to figure out what bird I’m hearing but not seeing! It truly helps to find that elusive birdie and know what it is that I’m hearing! I have the luck of having Coopers Hawks nest and have their babies for 9 years in a row in the woods behind our home! This app helped me learn a lot about this beautiful stealth hawk!.Version: 6.1.13

Absolutely superb!I can't believe just how much this fantastic app still amazes me with even MORE marvellous to be found every time I use it. If you love birds then this app is to be SO very highly recommended - you can't possibly go wrong! The price is unbelievable so there's nothing to lose but SO very much to be gained!.Version: 0

Amazing appUPDATE: I love the app, but both my wife and I *hate* the new interface! 😡 Whatever Audubon paid to have this app redesigned, they lost big-time. The new interface REQUIRES you to create an account, and it's almost impossible to easily find what you're looking for. Dropping my earlier 5-star rating to a generous 2 stars. This reeks. My wife and I have never been "bird watchers", but since being able to enjoy our morning coffee outside every morning, we've taken to really enjoying the busy company of our feathered friends. I downloaded this app to help identify the calls, and WOW! this app is terrific. It helps identify the multitude of calls, shapes, colors, regions, etc, and has really opened up our appreciation and knowledge. To cap it off: We were trying to confirm a Carolina Wren on our patio this morning; I opened the app and started playing the different calls of the Carolina Wren, and the next thing we knew, this little guy had braved hopping right up next to where we were sitting, trying to locate where the calls were coming from! I silenced my phone momentarily, and he flew a few feet away, but as soon as I started the calls back up, here he came again, trying to find his invisible friend! That alone is enough to merit a 5-star rating for this incredible app. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼.Version: 5.0.4

Great AppFull of great info and extremely easy to use.Version: 5.4.4

JohnExcellent!-my go to reference!.Version: 5.4.4

Amazing! This app has helped me find so many new birds. Birds that I’ve never heard of!.Version: 5.4.2

Great appEnhances my knowledge..Version: 5.4.4

A great appFor a novice birder this app is great. It shows recent sightings in my neighbourhood including songs/sounds. I have seen many of these birds, now I know what they are.Version: 4.12

SibylleLove this app! One way or another you are able to find your birds! Sound and size were most helpful but also narrowing it down to your location is really helpful! So much fun and easy to use!.Version: 5.1.6

Friendly to beginnersUseful “identify a bird” feature helps you make a positive ID while also teaching you what to look for in the future. Audio clips of bird calls, a variety of pictures, and concise descriptions. Easy to map sightings at different locations. Keeps a “life list” and you can even look back to what you saw in previous years. Make sure to set your default location to save time and find the birds nearest you..Version: 6.1.13

Talk to birds!I used this fantastic app today to have a conversation with a white breasted not hatch we talked back-and-forth for about 10 minutes absolutely amazing!.Version: 5.4.14

Great AppEasy to use..Version: 5.4.4

Love this app!I don't write reviews so this is my first. This app is an easy 5 Stars and I've not yet accessed all of the features. I became a backyard birder after moving to a rather remote area in the southwest desert where dove, quail and an occasional hawk were my only "winged residents" until I created a sheltered oasis, if you will. With time and patience, my yard was a flutter with song and feather. I've tried to identify my favorite bird (who I named "Follow") for years, to no avail, until I did a quick search by shape with this awesome app. "Follow," who hopped along quite close behind me as I watered my various gardens, is a sweet Desert Towhee!.Version: 4.12

An Amazing appI love this app, I am a (Hunter) Falconer of Falconry. And it truly helps me locate places where to find my birds of prey AKA Raptors around the world no matter where I am. I just began using it and it’s amazing how it gives you the time and days also shows Hotspots where they mostly are seen. I would always use it when I need help finding any raptors for Falconry. I would definitely recommend it to other Falconers but I will say also “It isn’t for everyone” Different people will have different tastes for apps and also Falconry isn’t meant for everyone. It truly helps locate any bird anywhere but remember they are “LIVING CREATURES” and they will eventually move to a new location and that goes for all birds. I will probably always use it if I need information to locate the best spots where they were last seen. Give it a try Falconers and I also recommend Bird watchers too..Version: 6.1.15

Great tool to identify birds. Not an experienced birder so I really like how easy it is to identify a new one..Version: 5.3.6

So useful!Great way to marry citizen science with educating the world about birds!.Version: 4.7

Great appSuch an amazing tool at my disposal. Brings a whole new dimension to the birding lifestyle. Thank you.Version: 5.3.9

Useful AppFor the most part, this app is easy to use, and helpful in identifying birds you see, and birds you only hear. I have been surprised to find such a variety of birds at this location, where we have been for the past two and a half years… I would not have known what they were without going quickly to this app. I am a little disappointed with the location and map part. It seems as though where I am, and my saved location I named “Home,”are never in the same place! The few times I have not been able to figure out what kind of bird I am seeing, I just send photos to them, and I hear back within a couple of days..Version: 6.0.8

Great appVery much enjoy this app. Birds respond to the sample calls! Super cool!.Version: 5.4.4

GreatWe are enjoying this app a great deal - excellent addition to the Audibon text book we have.Version: 5.4.13

Wonderful!I love this app!.Version: 5.4.15

Great app!Fantastic..Version: 4.2

Some helpful features, some glitchesThis is a helpful guide for recording birds you already know, but I find it difficult to ID birds using their criteria. I tried putting in the size and features of Bluebirds, but it would only suggest Tree Swallows. Also, when you are adding a sighting, you have to be sure to click “Save” in the upper right corner vs “Add Species” which is the bigger, more visible button under the bird info. I wish it had a picture ID feature. I was really disappointed when we went to Hawaii and discovered that it only records North American Birds. However, on the plus side, it does allow you to save more detailed notes than Merlin..Version: 6.1.10

Audubon Bird Guide: North AmericaStunning app easy to navigate, Lots of details for beginners and experienced birders..Version: 3.8

Loving this App so far!Recently got this app and it’s excellent. I bought the Peterson Field Guide app a few years ago and now I’m using this free app way more. I really like pictures, information and ability to log my sightings!.Version: 5.4.3

Audubon Birds - A Field Guide to North American BirdsI bought this app, which was surprisingly inexpensive, because we are taking a trip across the Atlantic (from the UK) in September and I wanted to have a look, in advance, at the birds we might see in Canada and New York. This app is packed with excellent features and I would recommend it to all bird lovers and travellers alike. I am very impressed by this app: The photographs are excellent; often there are 5 or 6 shots including male, female, breeding plumage and immature birds. And the field marking option on the main picture will no doubt make for quicker identification in the field. The facility to be able to sort the birds by first, last or scientific names helps to group and display birds together, such as all the woodpeckers, for example. This will be invaluable when we are trying to identify birds that we've never seen before. The written descriptions, including behaviour and habitat, and much more data, are excellent. The range map is also a good feature - it quickly allows me to decide whether a certain species is likely to be found in, say, the Vancouver area or not. I love the "find birds" feature, which will be especially helpful in planning which reserves or nature parks to visit. Also useful is the fact that you can choose the "list" option to get a more accurate description of where certain birds have been reported. There is also a feature where the user can upload sightings, something I plan to do each night after a day in the field, to repay those whose data will help me to find the birds more easily! There is also the option to listen to calls, again invaluable in obtaining an accurate identification. The mapping is crystal clear, again allowing for good forward planning. And you can get directions to a chosen spot, who needs sat nav! I've probably missed a few features. Suffice to say that I am so impressed with this guide that I have since dowloaded the audubon guides to: mammals, insects, butterflies and central park! Clive Horrocks (England) - a very satisfied customer!.Version: 2.0

My Favorite AppThis app is easily my most used besides Safari. I love the explore feature; it’s given me so many tips on where to find great birding spots in my area (and great hiking too!) It also helps me know which birds to watch out for when traveling. After choosing a spot, I can study all of its recently seen birds and brush up on their calls in just one or two clicks. (Plus, there are often three or more different sound samples for variety, and most all common noises a species makes are included.) I keep my life list here and though I am relatively new to birding, I’ve added almost 60 new birds to my life list in the two years I’ve had this on my phone! It’s a great tool to improve birding skills, and I’ve definitely become a better birder since I downloaded this. More to love: 1) It’s free! 2) You can download a “field guide” of bird information to ID without Wifi - a lifesaver for No Service or data-saving birding 3) You can set alarms to tell you when certain birds are seen in an area. I live in the north, so I have one set for snowy owls! 4) If you see something unfamiliar, the app can help you narrow down your choices based on characteristics like state, time of year, size, color, shape, voice, flight pattern, tail shape, habitat, and wing shape. Very helpful. If you’re on the fence, please try this app. I can’t recommend it enough!.Version: 5.4.16

BugsApp was mostly working fine but recently started noticing issues with the custom lists. I did need an update but after the update, after adding a bird to a custom list, if I tried to subsequently remove the bird from the list, it would appear to be removed because the reported number of birds in the list would decrease. but returning to the detail page the bird was not removed. Then going to the list, other birds would be removed. The only way to change the list without losing information was through the bottom menu, not bird entry pages..Version: 6.1.1

Awesome! This app is super helpful when it comes to identifying and researching birds. Even the calls are included? Great! Helping me find out when I saw a warbler and I had no idea what it was! This app is great, I use it almost every day, but I have seen a few birds that I am unable to find on Audubon. But I would hate rate this app less than five stars! Thanks! -mice.Version: 5.4.15

Great resourceI really appreciate using this app to identify the birds I fins around me in my world..Version: 6.1.15

Best for bird identificationThis is app is amazing! not to mention you can download the bird field guide to use when you don’t have internet connection. i also love if you don’t know what bird it is, you can describe it, and the app will try and find the best match! one time a hawk landed on a branch, i got some pictures, but i didn’t know what it was. but when i described the bird, it found it right away! it was a juvenile cooper’s hawk. oh and it also has different pictures for the genders of the birds, and what age they are. one last thing i want to mention, you can report your bird sightings! i would TOTALLY recommend this app. i can guarantee you there is no app better than this one. thank you for making this app, it is amazing..Version: 5.4.15

Great app for zoology and biology students!I recently took a vertebrate zoology course and really enjoyed the class! Audubon was instrumental in facilitating my interest in ornithology and bird watching. My favorite feature is being able to just click on a bird and get the identification information. The Bird ID feature is extremely helpful, it just makes seeing new species so much more exciting! Audubon provides scientific names, calls, habitats, breeding habits, etc. of hundred of species. Going out in the morning to bird watch just a little way from my college or apartment is wonderful. Going outside into nature and learning classification skills has made learning biology as my major a great experience! Thanks, Audubon!.Version: 5.1.1

Best app ever!I got this app a few years ago and it changed my life! I love birds so much now. Includes information on every part of the individual bird’s lives, and shows an easy-to-read range map of where each bird lives. Includes most of North American bird species, and many rarities. Plus, it is much easier to add sightings than eBird or Merlin. Also allows for easy identification and allows you to just read about birds for fun and explore the app. Also, you can add photos of the birds you have seen. However, the only common bird that is missing from this app is the Chihuahuan Meadowlark, which lives in the southwestern United States..Version: 6.2.5

Fantastic!I am loving this app, and have used it tremendously since moving to the country! It has been very easy to navigate thus far, and I just completed my first sighting with photo and location within a minute - while standing still enough to not disturb the birds just steps away from me! All great so far! 👍🏻.Version: 5.3.9

Excellent app. This is just what I was looking for. It has a comprehensive list of search options. Then it gives a list of possible birds from your entries. Choose one and it then gives a list of similar birds, which really helps. The songs clips are great. The map is easy to use. I have tried others, and was not adverse to paying money for the right one, but this has all I need, and then some. Well done and thank you. Peter.Version: 5.4.4
