MealBoard - Meal Planner for Negative User Reviews

No automationNearly everything is manual. One of the only automated things is the default list of stores, none of which exist near me. I thought I could add any number of the various stores around me, but nothing is automated despite the description stating the app “supports multiple grocery stores” which I guess actually just means “you can type more than one line of text in this app!” I have to type the name of a store (no search), configure all of the aisles in the store, configure the prices of every item I might buy... I don’t get it. It feels like downloading Google Maps only to find out you have to enter all of the step-by-step directions yourself. I would have just casually gone our separate ways but I’m particularly upset that the developer charges a non-refundable $4 just to try this app. I could care less about the $4 honestly, but I highly recommend adding a free trial so others—who immediately realize that this doesn’t solve any substantive problems or pain points—are able to cancel without you pocketing their money. The bar is particularly high for pay-to-download apps, and this one doesn’t come close..Version: 4.0.4

Seems Almost perfectI just started using the app and I have high hopes for it being the meal planning / kitchen organizing app I always wanted to have. But there is one big reason why I’m not using it very much: importing/inputting recipes to MealBoard is a huge put off when compared to my current grocery/recipe app: AnyList. AnyList is near perfect at importing recipes and super easy because it ads a share-menu command to Safari allowing 1 -tap entry of on-line recipes. No need to copy and paste URLs. It also does an amazing job of parsing recipe data that is pasted into the app. So it’s super easy to copy an emailed recipe and paste it in. I can also use the Mac version of AnyList to more quickly type in recipes. But AnyList does a horrible job of creating a grocery list from more than one recipe. It also does not have the ability to enter and keep track of items in the pantry. And right now their devs are adding stuff I really don’t need or want (Alexa integration) instead of improving the functionality of it. That is whyI really want to use this app as my only Grocery/Recipe app. But until getting the recipes into this one is easier I’m still using AnyList everyday and putting MealBoard on the back burner..Version: 3.6.2

Nice idea but flawedThe concept of this app is good, but it has flaws. If you add pantry locations, they won't be sorted alphabetically. The pantry keeps doubling up items no matter how many times the double is deleted. The recipes, shopping list and pantry do not co-ordinate very well and may be causing the doubling up of the pantry items. If like me you are in the UK, be warned this is aimed at the US and many UK own brand items are not recognized by the app. Not worth the money..Version: 3.5

*Updated* Needs work for the same issues**Updated** -There are still a lot of tweaks that need to be made in the app. I’ve added my email to the account but it is always saying that I don’t have one set up for it. I do, and it shows that I do. The shopping list and the quantity tab needs to be worked on still. I’ll select an item, put in an amount but it will almost always disappear or change when I click back into my master shopping list and this is so annoying especially when I’m actually getting my groceries. The syncing feature isn’t that smooth between devices, I find that I have to push sync on both apps a lot and close down the app for it to update properly. Debating on rating this a 3 or 4 star. I really like the app but it has had the same problems for forever now. So I’m rating it a 3. **Previous Rating** I've been looking for a meal planning app for a while and was recommended by a friend to try this app out. It's such a great tool! I love that it's easy to use..Version: 3.8.7

Could be easier/betterWe should be able to zoom in and out or just be able to edit the size of the calendar Also super annoying when you’re editing one meal item of one day and it automatically changes lots of previous meals there should be a “dessert” option.Version: 4.1.16

Condescending service deskBought full version of this product. I spent 3 hours inputting my pantry, had an issue with the app moving my entire pantry to my shopping list and could figure out how to clear. Tried to get a ticket stared with service desk and was sent links to the help tab. Truly disappointed in the service. Pen and paper, ten bucks worth of pads and paper will last years…… don’t buy.Version: 4.1.9

UsefulIt’s really good app for organising meals. It even has additional features on it that makes it much easier to manage meal plans as well as putting together shopping list. I’m still getting the hang of the app but so far it’s been good.Version: 4.1.14

Too complicatedI spent two and a half hours yesterday and got all of three meals input. I figured that there is a learning curve at the beginning, plus time to get it set up, so I gave it another shot today. An hour later and I am frustrated at how unwieldy this app is. It suffers from the same thing a lot of organizing apps suffer from: over complicating things in an effort to give you more. I wanted something I could simply write down what the weeks meals are. I don’t need to put down a recipe for everything. I don’t need a grocery list. I already have an app I like for that, plus putting groceries on automatically from recipes has the problem that it adds staples I keep in stock always, and doesn’t add said staples when they start to run low. The very first recipe site on the list listed on the “imports” I use, and have an account, and the app. When I tried to import my recipes the other app opened, and I lost the import interface button and couldn’t import anything. I spent a lot of time but could not figure out a way except to close the recipe app, go back to this app, individually search each recipe on their import page and import it from the site opened anonymously through their web search. This app has wasted my time. I’ll go back to scribbling the weeks meals on a calendar on the wall. It’s a lot faster, and I need fast..Version: 3.6.9

Has potentialI am liking this app so far. However with a few tweaks I think it would be better. For instance, if when adding items to my pantry, if there was an automatic capitalisation of words, that would be much better. I also would like to be able to choose for quick add items in my meal plan to not automatically go into my pantry or my recipes. Other than that, I am well pleased I have chosen to use this app. It makes my life and my shopping, planning etc much easier..Version: 3.5

Misleading regarding sharing and device syncingI chose to purchase the paid version of this app based on the stated feature that you could sync across devices. However this is not possible, I contacted support and they suggested that I start a family sharing account on iPhone. This didn’t work. Very disappointed.Version: 4.1.16

Last update removed functionalityI recently did an update and now I can’t see the total dollar amount of my shopping list. The value is truncated with dots..Version: 4.1.9

Good app but problem with categoriesVery nice app. Needs an initial time investment to set up but well worth it and provides helpful meal planning automation. What it doesn’t do is give you recipe suggestions based on the ingredients you have at home. I noticed a problem where changes made to categories in the settings section (adding, editing or resorting) are not visible in the recipe list view. They’re selectable when adding a new recipe or re-categorising a recipe, but when you want to plan your meals, not all of the new or changed categories are visible. It’s possible there is a category limit in meal plan drop down and recipe view. Would be great if that could be fixed as I now can’t select some meals because they’ve been allocated to categories I can’t see in the meal planner. Otherwise, really nice..Version: 4.1.9

Not for AustraliansI bought the app as it has such great reviews however, I found that it doesn't have any Australian barcodes on file and if they are they are not in my pantry. This is very disappointing. This means I'll have to manually input each item in my pantry and once that's done every time I buy an item that is not in my pantry today I'll have to manually add it. Also adding meals to your week isn't as smooth as described. Each meal needs to be saved individually which takes longer. If you live where the app does have barcodes on file this app may still be a great product but not for down here..Version: 3.5

Limited Canadian items recognized with scanThe scan function is what I want. But I’ve scanned 10+ items and they either come up ‘unrecognized barcode’ or a different item. Eg., tomato sauce comes up as a leather belt. Any chance Canadian upc codes coming soon?….Version: 4.1.16

Not badIt’s a bit clunky, when you want to edit, and I wish there were a few more location options for the pantry, but this is probably the best app of its kind I’ve come across..Version: 3.8.7

Some great features, but missing out.I really want this app to be great, but it lacks a few features to make the experience great. The basic features are all here - recipe importing, adding to a grocery list, pantry inventory and meal planning. But when I’m cooking, I don’t want to touch my phone and the app doesn’t offer Siri integration Or the ability to input items from Reminders. Ignoring that feature, the app does what is claims to do..Version: 4.0.6

Helpful but need improvementI like that I can see the meal planning in my calendar every day so we know what we have to prepare for that day. I hope that they fix the constant crashes when I’m putting the meals in the apps calendar. Also will be nice to have the opportunity to change a meal from one date to another easy..Version: 4.1.11
