MyFitnessPal: Calorie Counter for Negative User Reviews
✓ Glitchy and non responsiveI am not usual one to write reviews however the issues I found with this app was beyond what one should expect and I have just downloaded and can’t use it. Therefore, I felt compelled to write in hopes that someone will read and fix these issues. As mentioned, I had just downloaded the app and wanting to check it out before paying for the premium service. First, it denied me signing up 3x before I was final accepted my information to open up the app. Then as I went to put in my exercise for the day it gave no options for cardio and strength based workouts ( ie: HIIT, interval, circuit etc) and when I clicked on the “routines” option it just keep spinning the load circle bringing nothing up. Adding single food items was fine but when input ingredients to “create a recipe” it gave me an error pop up and told me to retry. Meaning I would ya e to input all the Ingredients I had just done again. I did this 3x again to no avail. Then lastly it asked for me to verify my email account that was connect via an email sent. I had done so hours before but was asked to do it again. So I requested another verification be sent. Over an hour later still have not received the email. This app is extremely disappointing and there are many others out there and I have deleted this app and will find one that actually works..Version: 20.9.0
✓ Ads are insane !The Ads are crazy on the free version . I would love to go premium but the price you are asking is insane ! 5 bucks a month maybe but 30 dollars a month ? You gotta be kidding right !.Version: 22.22.5
✓ Cancelled sub but they keep taking my money.I cancelled my subscription and deleted my account several years ago but they keep taking the money out of the credit card I used the past two years. I have asked them to purge my data. They apparently dance around that request. Easy to subscribe. Difficult to unsubscribe..Version: 22.23.0
✓ Tw eating disordersI like this app. but you know what i have? anorexia. in fact a lot or probably even most of the people who use this app or apps like it have an eating disorder of some sort. so to all healthy people thinking about getting this app just don’t you don’t need to count calories and your beautiful just the way you are. to everyone else who already has it delete the app it isn’t helpful and if you have an eating disorder please seek help. so yeah wether the creators of this app intended for it to promote or aid eating disorders does not matter what matters is that it does..Version: 20.22.5
✓ Latest Update is Bad!Since the last update to the app, it’s become really slow to respond. Takes forever to log stuff. Not happy..Version: 19.11.5
✓ It worksFirst of all I would like to say that this works. I have lost 3kg in 2 weeks with diet and exercise which I was not expecting! The thing that is really annoying is trying to figure out food weights. I live in the uk so we don’t measure things by cups. I also don’t have a food scale, so trying to figure out how much you have eaten is tricky. I eat a lot of fresh fruit and veg (as I’m sure a lot of people do when they start a new diet) and the portion sizes are confusing, you might type in 1 aubergine and it comes up with 100g portions, how much is 100g of aubergine? It would be helpful to have an average weight guide for each fruit and vegetable, and it would be great if it could let you automatically change the weight to imperial/metric etc instead of having rigid options like ounces and then trying to work them out as a fraction. I ate an aubergine! Figure it out. Also when you have frequently eaten foods they should come up first, it’s annoying having to scroll down to the bottom of your recipes for something you eat everyday. I agree with other reviews that say that your exercises should be private unless you want to share them. Other than that it’s incredibly helpfully, thanks!.Version: 20.7.0
✓ Leading cause for eating disordersBefore you decide to download this app I urge you to read this immediately. This app is what causes eating disorders, it is not only addicting but changes the way you see food, you start to see food as numbers rather than fuel. Unless your clinically obese and your doctor has physically told you to loose weight and you have tried your hardest eating less and more healthy then you do not need this app. I understand this app is for 17+ but I can guarantee you that most teens have had this and it destroyed their view on food. Being skinny is not the key to happiness trust me. I was eating very low calories because this app advised me to to in order to loose weight “fast” so I did and developed anorexia, lost my period till this day, caused my metabolism to become so low that when I over a specific low amount of calories I gained weight. Then i developed bulimia and restrictive binge and purge cycle which I thought I would never ever developed. It was depressing ,miserable and was practically consuming my life. Today I am currently recovering but in the back of my head the numbers will never ever leave and have triggered me to have fear foods. So please please please for your happiness do not get this app or any sort of calorie counting apps it’s not worth your happiness!!! Instead study about intuitive eating! You’ll thank me in the future:).Version: 21.13.0
✓ Such a shame…This used to be my favourite app but the ads have made it unusable. I understand you want premium users but you’ve ruined the free version with ads load in a way that as a user I have zero appetite to use the free version anymore, let alone going premium. Such a shame the business model behind it ruined the original app and its purpose..Version: 22.17.5
✓ ...I developed an eating disorder because of this application. I experienced anorexia for 2 years. This application should no longer exist. To be in shape, you just have to eat healthy and be active everyday. You don’t have to count every calorie you eat..Version: 19.11.5
✓ App promotes really unhealthy attitude to eatingI’ve used this app before and recently started to undergo personal training to get back into shape after injury and I’m gobsmacked from the lack of care for people’s health shown by the creators. Firstly, you can put in any goal you want, as a someone that is 6ft, the app allows me to attempt to get down to 4 stone. Is that really smart considering I remember using this app when I was 16 to try and lose weight, the app then recommended that I consume less than my basal metabolic rate, meaning that it was recommending I literally starve myself. Also, there NEEDS to be a free option where you can get rid of the calories being the header, or better yet, let me track my calories without having a limit to it. I shouldn’t need to put in my height and weight in order to track my calories. This app is awful and I won’t be using it unless they change this and rethink their attitude, which is a shame because this has somehow become the industry standard for calorie tracking..Version: 19.4.2
✓ Great app in the past, but updates continue to make it worse.August 2019: Have now been using this app for must be five or six years, and with each passing 'upgrade' it just seems to get worse. Current update: the drop-down calendar to 'select' the date no longer drops down - have to change date by 'brushing' the screen one way or the other. The principally blue background colour now changed to white, and is not so good as the old screen. Also seems to be slower to work. Previous write-up - several years earlier: Have been using this app for probably three years now, and it has been an invaluable part of my diet and weight loss programme. However, the last update is AWFUL: the menu is now on the l/h side (instead of a ribbon on the top or bottom of the screen?), taking up a huge amount of the screen space where one needs to log meals etcetera, the 'edit' options (including copying individual foods to another day and/or meal) have been changed so that they are not so obvious, easy or handy to use, and the previous option to enter one's weight in stone-pounds and fractions/decimals of a pound has lost the pound fraction/decimal option. An extremely good app effectively destroyed by an update not needed and presumably just produced to keep someone busy..Version: 19.7.1
✓ Good, but could do with a few improvements.I find MyFitnessPal really helpful for tracking my calories and protein, as well as giving me the info on everything else I’m eating, however there are a few things that would take this app from good to great: 1. Add salt to the food’s nutritional information list instead of just sodium. I understand that as an American app the list of nutritional information given is based on how it is shown on foods in America. However, in the UK, where I am, as well as other countries no doubt, we put the amount of salt, not sodium (most of the time) on our food so having this option would be really helpful. 2. Have the option to edit a food once you’ve saved it. Many times I have added or corrected a food, only to discover that I’ve put in a typo and so had to delete it and add the whole food again, instead of just being able to amend it. Very time consuming and unnecessary. 3. Add the time to when you drank water. Quite a few times I’ve gone to add water to how much I’ve drunk but then five minutes later forgot if I actually added it or not. Putting the time next to when water was added will take away this problem. Other than these issues I am generally happy with the app so keep up the good work and thank you!.Version: 19.4.5
✓ Greedy, but what else is new?I know this review will go into the abyss and MFP really doesn’t care, but here it is: - The UI was already not amazing, there were already a lot of ads. That wasn’t enough? You had to be more greedy and take away literally the only redeeming feature of the app and put it behind an unjustifiable paywall? Under Armor sold MFP to a private equity firm called Francisco Partners in 2022. Are we surprised that a private equity firm, that really doesn’t know anything about fitness and only cares about money is ruining the app? Their generic, corporate replies to the reviews show that they really don’t care about the feedback they’re receiving from the users. Francisco Partners is most definitely not struggling financially, their revenue is over $100 million and they have over $30 billion in assets. MFP is just a number to them. They probably decided that putting the barcode feature behind an unreasonable paywall was more valuable than brand image and customer satisfaction. They have formulas to figure that out. - What is the incentive to pay for the premium version when the free version hardly functions? I would not pay for an app that I don’t trust to work. - overall, I’ve been tracking my calories by hand in a notebook because I would literally do that then use this app anymore because of what you have done to it. Under Armor selling this app was the worst thing to happen to it.Version: 22.25.0
✓ Watch out for extra charges!I cancelled my monthly plan and the next month was charged for a full year of premium, the kicker is that my app is still asking me to upgrade and I still have the basic plan. I contacted the company and got crickets.....Version: 19.6.0
✓ Greedy subscription changesI’m unhappy with your decision to place the barcode scanner beyond a subscription. This USED to be free. Demanding a recurring almost $30 a month fee for something that used to be free is outrageous and incredibly greedy..Version: 22.23.0
✓ Useful toolGood but doesn’t work as well as other apps on the iwatch which was disappointing. Never the less, as hoped, the app has raised my awareness of what I am eating and so has helped improve the kinds of food I eat and the amount of it. I don’t mind the effort to log the food and have not missed a day in my first week..Version: 19.7.1
✓ Recent Upgrade 👎🏽👎🏽I love using MyFitness Pal to log my food & exercise journey but also to keep track of my weight loss journey. I find the new upgrade has less free features to offer now, including the progress diary which has now become a premium feature. All my progress photos and weight history from the last 6 years have been removed so I’m not that excited about the new upgrade. This was a staple feature of the free version for years and now it’s all of a sudden become a premium feature. Disappointed to say the least, this was one of the main features that made this app so awesome and versatile to use. I was contemplating to upgrade to premium just recently as I wanted to dive deeper into my macros and analytics but the recent upgrade has changed my tune… not a fan of the new upgrade the free version has literally been stripped back to its bare bones. The only way I’ll be able to retrieve my weight loss data & history from the last six years is to pay a premium for it, not cool..Version: 22.12.5
✓ Somehow an app I loved is now a pain to useI have never left a review for an app before, but I am motivated to do so after trying a few times to come back to an app I used to love. This app helped me lose a stone or more around ten years ago. It had a really easy UI, clear categories, really intuitive. I have used it on and off for more than a decade when I wanted to stay on track - which means I know what I am doing in the app. Or at least I thought I did. The latest UI is so confusing, cluttered, you can easily add foods to the wrong meal. It’s not easy to see your day’s intake at a glance thanks to all the Premium ads on the page pushing it down. At first, I honestly couldn’t even find my daily diary because the page is now so littered. I came to look at the reviews to see if others were as disappointed as me - I couldn’t believe I would be the only one - and they are. I understand that this needs to make money - it’s a business. And I really don’t know the solution to that. But what I do know is that the free product is so cluttered and confusing that I would not be then keen to spend money on the paid version, since I imagine they are designed by the same team. Thank for many years of help, sadly I will now be looking elsewhere..Version: 22.25.2
✓ Terrible Customer Service and Glitchy AppI’ve used my fitness pal for years, and I never had an issue until recently. Thankfully, I’ve also never had the misfortune of talking with any of their customer service representatives before these past few days. I’ve been unable to log into the app for quite a while now, which is extremely disheartening considering that I’ve been paying the exorbitant fees for premium access for quite a while now (off and on, of course). I tried requesting a password reset over 20 times, and I still have yet to receive any sort of email. Yes, my fitness pal, I’m sure that I’m putting the email in correctly, and yes I’ve checked my spam.🙄 So naturally, I submit a ticket. Here we welcome Frannie.🙂 After outlining the entire situation in my ticket, I get a generic mass-response type email outlining everything in the article which I’ve already read several times over. So I respond back telling her I still haven’t got a solution yet. To which she responds, “We have just sent you a password reset email. If you did not receive it, please let us know.” I wait a day, and still nothing. So I let her know twice, and, you guessed it, still nothing. Quite simply, I have no idea what to do now. I’m likely going to just have to request a refund for premium services seeing as how I can’t access the app on my phone or my computer. This is super frustrating and huge waste of time..Version: 21.9.5
✓ Good and badThis app is THE app to get if interested in tracking calories. However it falls in having a far too expensive premium membership system, for me and I assume most people who use this app the articles on the main page are pointless. It also suffers from crash issue and I often open the app to find it in “offline mode” despite having home wifi and data both available. It is a good app overall with a solid system for entering food data and a relatively large data base in comparison to other apps I have used. However the fact that you have to pay way to much for premium in order to simply see the macros of the food you enter kills the app for me and because of that I cannot recommend it..Version: 7.29.1
✓ No longer a good appSeveral years ago, this app was the best out there when it came to tracking calories, nutrition and exercise data. If you wanted to lose, maintain or gain weight, you could find a good way to make the app work for you. The UI was fairly intuitive. There was a good ‘free’ service (‘free’ still cost your personal data of course), and an expensive but tolerable expanded service for those that needed to track more details or had some alternative dietary plans. Over the past year plus, unfortunately, the company continues to make terrible decisions. The UI was dramatically changed, and it became far more difficult to do the most basic tasks (for most people this was logging food, water, exercise and weight). Bugs have become the norm. Features have been reduced or eliminated, especially from the ‘free’ plan. In short, the value plummeted, yet the price did not. Now, after years of using this app, I and many others are moving on. There are better apps out there that make it easy to log calories in and out. There are still apps out there that let all users log food by scanning barcodes. There are apps out there that offer more premium options for a much better price. Like many companies out there. MFP became so focused on raising the price and forcing users into subscriptions, they forgot that if they don’t provide value, they’re just going to lose market share. Hopefully they’ll change things around and we will see more value in the future..Version: 22.19.5
✓ Loved this app.. till you deleted my acct.Have had this app for nearly a full year now, I use it daily and have loved it! Usually I’m a massive advocate for it and encourage all my friends to give it a go. Today it logged me out unexpectedly and whenever I try and log in the app says my credentials are wrong and that my account doesn’t exist. I’ve lost a YEARS worth of progress now and I’m so so upset. Give me my account back!.Version: 18.10.5
✓ Very buggyI’ve been using this app for years and can’t rate it highly enough. Unfortunately there have been bugs/glitches like crazy lately including lagging when searching for things and freezing when adding in foods etc. I hope you are able to fix this! I will continue using the app regardless but not having to restart the app so often will be fab. Thanks so much!.Version: 20.20.5
✓ Too expensiveThe most expensive app I’ve seen since I was an iPhone user. Like who is going to pay 30$ per month ? They literally just killed their company with their own hands. Would have given it -5 star if that was an option 😒..Version: 22.23.0
✓ Once very good, gets worse and worse and worse with each updateI have used this free app for years. It used to be very good indeed: all the basic functions in an efficient interface, spread over a couple of pages. Recent and successive updates have downgraded functionality and removed useful information. Info once reported on a couple of summary pages is dispersed over clumsy extra pages and hidden in submenus. For example, daily Calorie, and macro nutrient targets and actual daily results have disappeared from the diary page. Add them up yourself🙄; summaries for daily, weekly, monthly calories/ macros compared with targets are hidden in submenus on a different page; adding body weight measurements is on another page; other info, once free, is now locked in premium (or I can’t find it). Perhaps as a result, the app is now slower to open, update, load and use. It’s such a shame..Version: 22.13.0
✓ Money grabBasically useless unless you pay for the subscription. Cost 30$ a month which is way too expensive for a calorie counter app..Version: 22.23.0
✓ Lots of functionality, but not a very good appThis app is a good utility, but if they gave the UI and functionality a bit more polish here and there it could be great. Some things are just clumsy and/or glitchy which makes using it throughout the day kind of a pain. I’ll continue to use it, but as other similar apps arise I’ll definitely keep checking them out as there’s nothing really tying me to this one. Some examples: it repeatedly asks me to allow Apple Heath access even though it’s already got it (and is already using the data it gets from there). It reads my weight and then writes it back to Apple Health resulting in duplicate data points. I couldn’t get it to integrate reliably with UnderArmor’s (pretty terrible) other apps. It doesn’t make use of 3D Touch, which could make moving/peeking/editing items in my diary much faster. It’s got visual glitches along the top and bottom of the iPhone X screen. I turned on the negative calorie adjustment, but that was REALLY glitchy, sporadically giving me a negative calorie adjustment > 1000 before updating to < 100 a couple minutes later. Googling this shows the issue has been around for a very long time, but they haven’t addressed it. I’m paying for pro because they cripple the basic set of features so much, but at this point I definitely feel no loyalty to the app, and I wonder what they are doing with all that subscription money..Version: 7.37.1
✓ Difficult to navigateI consider myself very tech savvy and the user interface for this app is very confusing for me. My husband who also uses it is totally lost and I have to enter his data for him. What is confusing is searching for foods. Depending on which page you are on, the “scan barcode “ may be in a different place. When creating a meal or recipe, no confirmation a food was added and return back to add in the next food. Multi add should have the ability to scan too. It is also not intuitive to find your recent foods. When you put in a recipe, in order to actually cook the item, you have to edit the recipe to see the amount of ingredients to create it. The other disappointment is sharing meals, recipes, and foods with friends you have added. The ability to favorite individual items should be there that is used weekly or monthly, instead of having to scan the item again as the recent foods is not listed alphabetically. The developers suggested I create a Meal for each of my grocery items to find. I’ve done that, but again, my husband doesn’t have access to that, so if he eats something I bought, but I didn’t, he has to scan it too. This is not usable for couples or families that eat similar items but not the same. I’ve already paid for my premium. I’m not going to continue with my husband’s. $79 is way too expensive for the minimal features provided. Also, it doesn’t sync correctly with my Apple health and watch data. I’m constantly having to edit it..Version: 21.9.5
✓ Reputation > functionalityI’m only continuing to use MFP because I’ve invested so much into it, but if you are starting a diet or monitoring your intake now, I’d recommend using other, more current alternatives. This is why: • The interface is clunky • Far, far too many items on the database are incorrect, lacking in key nutritional info or have incorrect measurements (eg it has sliced Turkey in fluid ounces and millilitres.) • No clear ability to correct database items, meaning you’ve got to not log the food or manually input all the nutritional info with a calculator and some maths. • I tried premium and, meh, I could only see myself using the premium features just to get my money’s worth, but otherwise the premium features are lacking • Recently, the ability to share meals, logged items or recipes with friends has been removed, which is a nightmare if you are dieting with someone you live with and is using the app too. • The web interface is reminiscent of a 90s computer. That being said, MyFitnessPl is great app for logging food at a basic level, and it’s reputation precedes it. But since it’s creation there have been many alternatives developed and some of them in 2021, are more effective that MFP, which by comparison feels extremely basic and outdated. Diet-logging apps require you to invest in them to be effective. You can’t just drop in and out if it if you want results. MyFitnessPal is a bad investment..Version: 20.24.7
✓ This app’s time is overUsed to be a good app, but now they’ve introduced pop-up ads & increased prices. Moving on to a competitor app after many years on MyFitnessPal. Thanks I guess.Version: 22.16.5
✓ Clean Up Food EntriesUpdate!!! Developers are forcing users to the premium version. No longer are there JUST banner ads, now every screen brings a hanging ad that must complete its process before it can be closed. They also removed the barcode scan feature as of Oct 1st. Shame on you guys!!!! Don’t waste money on an app with so many errors. There are so many wrong food entries. Same exact food item with different nutrition values. Even those that are “verified” with a check mark are full of incorrect information. I’ve been using this app off and on for over five years and the food entries are only getting worse. The “report incorrect information” feature is horrible too! It’s a lot of work and when 75% of the entries are incorrect, it makes it impossible for users to effectively report errors. Suggestion: Make a specific group of trusted users that can make their food entries Public and then make a different large group of moderators that review food entries and remove the ones that are bad. Even send the information back to the user for correction. Allow users to choose location by continent to filter out food entries from different countries or languages. Allow users to “favorite” a specific food entry that is used often. This app can be so much more and totally worth the premium version but right now, even the free version is barely average..Version: 22.17.5
✓ Crashes frequentlyI used to love this app but it now frequently crashes. So frustrating. I cook from scratch a lot so adding my recipes is really laborious (the feature to add a URL and it should automatically load the recipe NEVER works for me) and I just can’t cope when it crashes half way through. It might be good for people who eat a lot of food from packets as you can scan barcodes to get the calories added. But I’m looking for a new calorie tracker... Ps Followed instructions to sync then uninstall and reinstall app. The recipe function still doesn’t work. I tried to add a dinner recipe and when I copied the ingredients the next page said the app had found a match for the ingredients (there were about 8). The ‘match’ was apples and cinnamon??? These items were not in the recipe, it just randomly added these ingredients..Version: 7.28
✓ Virus warning in iOS, poor use of ad providers- DELETED app right awayAnd to think, I was about to go premium and pay $10.00 per month. STAY AWAY from this app.Version: 7.23
✓ Used to be better than it is nowNo longer synchs with apple fitness or apple health. I’ve reported the issue 3 times and deleted and reinstalled the app which fixes it for that day. Next day doesn’t work again. With all the apps around available that do work I’ll be looking for something else when my subscription runs out.Version: 22.15.0
✓ Good, but could be better.I’ve had this app for a few years now and have had success losing weight while tracking my food intake. Recently there was a change to the layout of the app and how you see your status and how you enter food, exercise, weight, etc. I do not like this change as it has made the app slower, not as “user friendly” or straight forward for entering weight or exercise. I’ve also had issues with it converting my steps into exercise. This has been going on for a couple months. It has no problem being accurate with my steps (just from my iPhone), but it rarely updates the exercise calories to reflect the steps. I know there are millions of options it has to find as far as food entries, but there are times where I scan and item’s barcode and the nutrition information that pops up does not match the nutritional information on the actual item (even if it finds the correct/exact item in the database). Because of this, I do not plan to purchase the premium package. Im worried that I’ll pay for something that I’ll still have to double check and do the math myself. Even though there are some things I get frustrated with about this app, I still recommend it as a tool to lose weight or just monitor your dietary health..Version: 22.12.5
✓ What a disappointment… features now locked behind paywallI have used MFP for so many years and would love to give it a five star review. It’s been invalubable to my weight loss journey. I didn’t mind the original advertisements two years ago. Now they have more aggressive advertisement, pop ups and interruptions while you are trying to log your calories. Fine. It’s free- I am willing to deal with it because I know developers have to make money. Imagine my surprise when I log in today when I can’t use the barcode scanner. It’s now, suddenly, locked behind a paywall. The subscriptions are any small matter either- 20 bucks a month or close to 100 a year to use the app that I have been using for years. No thanks. I’ll be switching to a new app. What a complete disappointment. It’s sad to see really good apps get ruined by greedy people. If the developer deigns to post an answer- please don’t. I’ve already read your article and it doesn’t change the fact you are greedy ********. Avoid this app and do not download. This goes double if you want to use developers not to suddenly lock features that you’ve literally been using for YEARS behind a substantial paywall. UPDATE: I switched to the app “Lose it!” And I love it! They don’t lock their barcode scanner behind a pay wall and their paid subscription is less than half the price and has way more features than MFP. I am very happy with my new fitness tracker “Lose it!” Available on the App Store now!!.Version: 22.19.5
✓ Cost of Premium SubscriptionIt seems to be impossible to find out the cost of the Premium Subscription before signing up for a free trial. This makes it impossible to make an informed consumer decision. I have quite a few app subscriptions, so am genuinely interested in the option of Premium, rather than free. I am going to check out if, not knowing the potential annual costs of subscription, confirms with our Australian Consumer Law - which app would need to conform with if selling to Australian residents through Apple’s App Store. There are quite a few frustrated people in the app’s Community wanting to know both the cost and benefits of Premium Subscription, so developer has sufficient feedback to know this is an issue for some users - an issue developer is obviously not taking seriously. Frankly, I find the lack of information on subscription rates bizarre.Version: 7.27
✓ Very UnhappyFor over a week now I have been logged out of this app. In June I paid for a premium subscription and last week was unable to access my account. I contacted Support only to receive a bulk email which did not address my issue. I have sent over 5 emails to Support detailing my issue. As a result I received one email back which was the same bulk email I originally received. I have had to start a new account, pay for a premium subscription again and as a result I have lost over two years of data from my old account. Emails to Support to merge my new and old account so I can access my data has fallen on deaf ears and I have had zero support. When you pay almost $140 in two subscriptions one would expect some decent support. In my case, there has been Zero support. Very unhappy and I would no longer recommend this app. My mistake for starting a new account..Version: 18.9.1
✓ Went from the best to the WORSTWow this new update is a disgusting user experience. Greatly limits all the features, you cannot escape the ads they pop up full screen and are so annoying to exit, can’t even see your macros anymore. Not to mention it is SO expensive for the paid version now. What a disappointment- deleting this garbage. There’s too many other calorie tracking apps to be dealing with these greedy developers..Version: 22.17.0
✓ NopeLeaving my old review down the bottom, as I’m sure it’s still a valid point. But my new problem is with the cost of a premium subscription, 80$ per year, you must have a massive crack problem to expect people to pay that... surely you would help a lot more people with a lower price and also get a lot more subscribers. 80$Yearly is a joke I'm so sick of searching through 20 of the same thing looking for what is right. The foods that people input should be checked before it is turns up on everyone's list. Some of the calories are so far wrong it's pathetic... I have been using other calorie apps to double check the information on MFP. I don't care if I have to pay for it, if I find a better app, I won't be bothering with this anymore..Version: 7.27
✓ Ads ruin the experienceThe most recent update is riddled with full screen apps. This intrusive update has now ruined what was an incredible problem free experience I’ve had since using the app first in 2014. It’s come a long way and unfortunately it took a sharp turn for the worst. Personally I’m switching over to MacroFactor..Version: 22.16.5
✓ New menu organisation ruined a good app, will probably be deleting it.Want to provide feedback to the developers, the new menu to weight logging is terrible. Before it was right there on the menu bar to check weight progress and log weight. It took two clicks to do. Since the new look update, it take five clicks to get to and is very inconvenient, particularly as “steps” comes up first every time. Very fiddly now. It’s a terrible change that despite preferring the food diary logging to other apps I’ve used before I’m seriously considering deleting the app and finding a better health management app after using MyFitnessPal since 2017. Please fix this by making the weight logging/charts easily accessible on the main menu bar again..Version: 22.11.0
✓ GoodbyeAre y’all high?? $30/month premium Here’s some alternatives: Cronometer, Loseit, or Macros.Version: 22.16.5
✓ Sign your rights awayToo much data is collected from users. I’d rather pay but have my health-related data stored locally tbh..Version: 19.4.5

✓ Inaccurate PercentagesI’ve used this app and other similar apps on and off throughout the years, and I’ve noticed little things that annoy me about them that always eventually makes me stop using them for a while. This time, it seems to be the calorie and macro percentages. Yesterday I was excited to see how much protein I got because I ate more than usual, and I’m normally low on protein, according to this app at least. When I checked the macros summary page it said only 14% of my macros yesterday were from protein, along with 33% from fat and 53% from carbs. What confused me was that it also said I got in 60g of protein yesterday and 61g of fat. So why were the percentages so far off? When I calculated it myself I got about 18% for both fat and protein and 64% for carbs. Maybe they calculate it in some special way I don’t know about and those percentages aren’t what I think they are, but I’m doubtful. And even if this was the case then that just means the app should be more clear. Also, this is more nit picky but on the nutrients page it said I got 61g of protein and 62g of fat. That probably just has more to do with the way it was rounded I guess, but shouldn’t it be the same way all throughout the app? And for those percentages I see no excuse. Makes me wonder what else on this app is inaccurate..Version: 19.6.10
✓ Why don’t any fitness apps have a “just had a baby” note?I used to love this app and many of its features but I find it lacking after having my baby. Not only does the weight gain from my pregnancy look negative on the chart (well duh I made a child), but there are many of the features that make it seem like I’m lazy or not putting in the effort to stay healthy. The calorie intake is much less than what I should be eating because I’m breastfeeding but it turns negative when I include the snacks because it goes over the calorie goal. Not to mention that exercise is limited postpartum. I’m not asking for my fitness pal to keep track of my breastfeeding or anything like that (there are many other apps for that) but it would be nice if there was a note you could add or status change that one could add that encourages mamas who are recovering from labor. Not put us down for not being able to keep up with our diets and exercise habits pre-child. A little encouragement, especially around the 5th and 6th week postpartum would be beneficial since that is around the time when most moms can actually begin to work out and do light exercises. This app is really helpful because it helps me make sure I’m eating enough, especially since it’s hard to stay sane with a newborn and lack of sleep. I just wish it was more mama friendly because many fitness apps seem to completely forget that labor and recovery ain’t easy. 😥.Version: 18.7.0
✓ Not very reliable for serious weight lossI’ve started using this to try and lose some weight, was recommended it to use alongside my Fitbit charge 2.... its a good guide if it works, I have to mess about everyday turning the connection off and on with my watch for MFP to add my steps to my calorie count. If it does work without me having to mess about it’s never accurate until it catches up usually at the end of the day which by then is no good. Lost a second star because the calories lost are different to the fit bit for the same amount of steps, I trust the fit bit as this knows when these steps have been made by running upstairs or a little walk to the bin. I feel if it’s advertising that’s its synced then the calories burned should also be synced not just the number of steps. Ultimately this app is ok if you’ve nothing else to go by but I think I’ll stick to the bit app..Version: 19.3.6
✓ Crashes INCESSANTLY! Otherwise Good.Have used this App on & off for a few years. In 2014, I used it regularly and it helped me lose over 2 stone. BUT then the App started regularly crashing. Since then I’ve tried coming back to the App several times but the incessant crashing puts me off again. My iPhone has latest ios12, and my Apps are updated daily, but today I thought I’d give it another go; at lunchtime it crashed 6 times when I attempted to enter just three products (including water). Unfortunately i find this typical, and it drives me both mad and away from the App. I know how good this App can be, but I can’t put up with the continuous re-logging due to crashes. A cynic might suggest they’re trying to get me to pay for the premium service. To those that point out I’m getting a free service, I’d reply and say the App Developers are getting plenty of revenue from the advertisers. Anyway, this is just my opinion and review of the App. Take Care and be nice!.Version: 18.9.1
✓ ToxicThis app is awful. it promotes disordered eating habits and dieting to vulnerable people. cancel it..Version: 20.21.0
✓ Frustrating experienceIn terms of the size of the food database this is unrivalled, it’s truly huge and thanks to the user contribution is not totally US-focussed like other similar apps. A word of warning - you do have to double check the nutritional values stated for items as these can be wildly off. I guess this is down to errors in user input. The two stars I’ve given the app are really only for this database and even that is low because of that unreliability. So why such a low rating? Because using the app is a truly frustrating experience. It crashes constantly. Most annoying of all, it has a tendency of crashing partway through inputting a very long recipe. It doesn’t save anything you’ve input so you have to start all over again. This is hugely time consuming - especially given the aforementioned need to double check the nutritional values stated for each value - so is incredibly frustrating to the point I’ve nearly thrown my phone across the room in anger. I’ve put up with this for so long but have grown so annoyed with it, it’s driven me to write this review - something I don’t tend to do. I don’t hold out much hope for it being fixed soon and, if it isn’t, I will not continue to use the app. Sort it out MFP..Version: 19.4.5
✓ SlowThis app has crippling performance and stability issues. Also the “onbording” instructions can’t be dismissed all at once, which is annoying. Just get me to the app and I’ll find out how it works!.Version: 20.3.0
✓ Not quite thereI just tried this app after reading about it in a review for a different calorie tracking app, one I will continue to use instead of this. I created my account and went to enter my first meal, which includes 12g of sugar free Metamucil. I weigh all my food to make this easier. After scanning the barcode and pulling up the item, I see that I am unable to enter portion by gram. This is odd as the food label lists grams in a serving, so I check other Metamucil items in the database to see if that option is present. It is not. So I enter the tsp equivalent. Apparently “2 tsp(s)” is 30 calories, while “2 tsp” is 40... ok well 30 is the correct amount, however the app then shows incorrect carbs and fiber. To enter a generic banana by weight, I had to set serving size to 1 g and then enter 137.4 servings. As a developer that has also done a fair amount of quality assurance testing, if a simple method for entering portion by weight is available in this app, then I can confidently say the user interface in anything but intuitive. If the feature doesn’t exist, then it is hard to take this app seriously. A food scale allows an app like this to be much more accurate. I will stick to the app I’m already using, where I enter almost every item by weight, and the results match the label. Metamucil is not an obscure item. I should be able to scan a barcode and enter “11.6 grams”..Version: 21.23.0
✓ Does what it says, mostly. This is a useful app and has opened my eyes to some dietary issues, however it is not clear which figures are recommended amounts and which are maxima. For example, should I aim to eat 300mg cholesterol a day or should I avoid going over that figure? There is a habit, several times a day, for the app to freeze, followed by a blue screen labelled "Updating". This can last for hours but generally doesn't result in any visible update. It would be a nice enhancement if the sort order for foods could be selected. I would put the "Green shield" foods first so I could be sure of getting verified micronutrient data. It is very frustrating finding that the invalid or incomplete data entered by another user has caused my nutritional data to be incorrect. Some sort of nutrient validation should be included. I have encountered foods, for example, where the grams of sugar exceed the grams of carbohydrates. Another issue is that in Europe labels give salt content and not sodium and it is clear that many people adding foods do not understand the relationship between the two..Version: 20.10.1
✓ New update has ads and now no more barcode scannerI loved MyFitnessPal because it felt like a tool to improve myself, but with the latest update there are advertisements that pop up out of no where. This app now feels like a cheap App Store game bolstering the user with ads after logging food which is far from the type of feeling you want when trying to take your nutrition seriously. I see now this app is no longer for the user to improve and just another company doing everything they can to squeeze advertisement revenue out of willing businesses that only negatively affect the user experience. I wrote this review a while back and now starting October 1st, the barcode scanner will only be available to premium users. This may be a deal breaker for me, I shouldn’t have to pay money to scan my food and live heathy. I think all free users can agree that removing a free feature and making it exclusive to premium subscribers is an awful decision and will likely lead many to leave myfitnesspal for other tracking services. Much of the recent changes made to the myfitnesspal app shows that there is no consumer voice in the room when making decisions. In a market where the competition and myfitnesspal have no discernible difference it is becoming more and more easy to leave this once great app for others offer better service and don’t require a premium subscription to do so..Version: 22.19.5
✓ Love this app but...I have been using this App for years. I took an 8 month break and picked it up today. Just found out that you can no longer scan barcodes without buying the premium. I was able to scan barcodes for years. It just feels like a ripoff. I’m not buying your premium even if the entire app is no longer free. I will just go use 1st Phorm’s app. One thing that I learned after studying a lot about nutrition is that your caloric intake should not be below your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). At least not for an extended period of time. And yet, years ago in the beginning of my weight loss journey the calories goals had me at 1100 calories and I found out my BMR was closer to 1400. This had a profound effect on my mental health and weight loss. I had chronic fatigue and anxiety. It was awful. There was no warning about consuming lower calorie and being in starvation. There was no place I could add a BMR so the app would take that into account. I really hope you guys can refine that more because you would be able to teach people about BMR and good nutrition. You would be able to make sure people are not starving themselves and putting a wrench in their weight loss journey. You would be able to help people not feel awful and have more energy. You would help people not have their mental health suffer due to starvation. Please fix this and give back my barcode scan and I will change my rating to 5-stars!.Version: 22.19.5
✓ Going downhill fast, time to jump shipI’ve been a user on MFP for many years, but the app is going downhill fast and the recent updates are just making it worse. It’s slow to load, doesn’t scroll and locks up your phone, doesn’t fit on your tablet screen, notifications cycle back to the Home Screen and not their destination. Absolutely unusable. You can’t enter a weight, or see your progress anymore. Instead of trying to clean up the food database, or screen out creepy users, they’re trying to “beautify” the UI, and end up with this… it’s absolutely unusable. Filled with disgusting ads about liver disease and earwax, that take up 50% or more of the screen, before the last update made the screen unusable. It’s never been worth the premium price, and it’s not even worth the free download now. A shame, it was a great program a couple years ago. In response to the developer’s response, the scroll function on the dashboard does not work so there is no way for many users to access the progress page. Giving the advice of “scroll down to find the progress section” is fruitless when the scroll function does not work. I submitted tickets about that, the notifications, and other issues over the past several months to the zendesk to the reply of “this is a known issue” usually with no action or improvement taken. As my review states, time to jump ship..Version: 22.13.0
✓ Just wowSo you were hacked in Feb 2018. And I’m notified through a third party security check service that my email, IP and password has been leaked? Why haven’t you notified us users, clearly explaining what had happened and what appropriate steps should be taken to secure our data? I would have that thought that a developer that provides a service to store intimately in-depth data of users health records and lifestyle choices would have been taken seriously. Guess not..Version: 19.2.1
✓ Once great, now steadily becoming unusable. Find a better trackerI have used MyFitnessPal daily for 12 years. Not just for my own nutrition tracking, but also to track nutrition clients remotely. I’m a paid premium user, as are all my clients. Tracking clients macros remotely is now excruciatingly clumsy using this app, and I can no longer use this platform for this purpose. Duplicate entries and bogus data is everywhere, and not just on one or two clients, right across the board. Mobile/browser data doesn’t sync properly, and the food database has grown into an abomination of false values. I’ve attempted to resolve some of these issues with support but they don’t seem to care. This nutrition tracking concept should not be difficult to deliver in simple to use app form. So after a very long time on MFP I’m now looking at alternatives. This is far from optimal..Version: 21.9.5
✓ This app is not worth the sub.I’m tired of the clunky controls and the constant errors when I scan barcodes. Really not seeing the value in a sub anymore. This is not worth $74/year. Please add a prompt if someone swipes down to cancel creating a recipe. It is so easy to accidentally swipe down instead of hitting the arrow thinking that will cancel adding an ingredient and instead it cancels the recipe and all of your progress is lost. The app should ask you whether you want to cancel creating a recipe before it just erases it. Also, I should be able to submit fixes for wrong information or add new foods while creating a recipe without needing to exit out and start over. Also, about a quarter to half of the things I scan lately are wrong. It makes the barcode scanner pretty useless if you need to take the time to submit a correction to all of the nutritional information anyway. I don’t know if this is a Canada vs US problem or what but in some cases it’s not even the same product at all. Also, why on earth can I not update the incorrect serving size while I am updating the rest of the incorrect nutritional information? It’s ridiculous. I feel like this app just keeps adding new features but ignores all of the problems with their existing features. You are known for having an extensive database of foods that can be scanned easily. Please take the time to quality control that database or it doesn’t matter how many foods it has in it..Version: 20.3.0
✓ Could be a LOT betterI had this app for a long time, stopped using it for several years and came back to it and now you have to pay for a premium membership to use what was free before and it’s really glitchy! I thought somehow I was screwing up but I see now from other reviews that many others have my same issue. Foods in the diary keep randomly duplicating and sometimes adding to previous days’ diaries. I added in something for today’s morning and it added it to yesterday instead of today and another item was duplicated. The barcode scanner is very limited, doesn’t work on most nutritional items and for me the worst thing is that it doesn’t track nutrients except for like 4 basic ones. I’m much more interested in tracking nutrition than calories or exercise which I did manually for years easily in a notebook. When you go over 100g of vitamin C it lists it in red like you did something terribly wrong. It reprimands you if your goal weight is less than what they think you should be even though I was that weight for years, was perfectly healthy and my doctor never once said I was underweight. It reprimands you if you go under 1000 calories for the day which is ridiculous, how can you lose weight eating more than 1000 calories? I have the free trial of the premium now and already cancelled it to make sure I don’t forget (you still get the free month). The weight should be lost by then anyway..Version: 20.15.1
✓ Apps great But…..Apps great but recently the daily steps total no longer shows calories nor contribute to exercise how it previously did. This can be annoying and time time consuming as now I have to manual input the km/ calories taken manual which isn’t always as accurate compared to the old. Don’t know weather this is a bug or the feature was removed. But for some one that meticulously tracks these things it can be a nuisance..Version: 21.25.5
✓ Corporate Greed Kills All Good things.{TLDR} App became a cash grab for Wall Street and EVERY feature is behind a paywall now. Useless you want to spend $320/year to count calories no longer worth downloading. Honestly this app had the potential to continue being a cornerstone of many peoples fitness journey. Under armour should not have sold this app to wall street. They managed to push many potential customers off of the app in a single day when they pushed an update to everyone’s phone that took away the use of the photo scanner. They also started to charge exuberant amounts for the monthly subscriptions, Apparently 26$/month seems ‘reasonable’ for a calorie counting app while others are max 3$/month. This app doesn't have much value add over similar apps either… They were already generating so much on ad revenue from the lite versions of the app i dont know why they decided to kill their cash cow of daily ad revenue from millions of users. Really unfortunate because I was planning on getting a subscription starting January for next years fitness goals but $320/year is ridiculous. On principle I will be deleting the app and forcing all my friends to follow suit. Hope the loss of so many users makes them rethink this strategy. Best of luck to everyone on their fitness journey..Version: 22.22.5
✓ Selling yourselfIn order to use the app you must agree that they are allowed to collect sensitive data and sell it to others and you have to agree that they can sell your information within the USA. Keep yourself and your information safe. Do not use this app.Version: 19.2.5
✓ Not as good as it was - getting really annoying nowI've been using this app a good few years just to keep track of calories & keep an eye on my nutritional balance & it's been particularly useful since 5:2 fasting arrived. Having used it for such a long time I'm very aware it's not foolproof & that it has some built in shortcomings - these are mainly due to wrong info being submitted for foodstuffs & nutritional details being entirely missing in some cases which skews the macro results. Over a period of time updates have made the App less responsive mainly due to annoying advert banners that make it 'stagger' more often & pause to the extent that I'm thinking of giving up it's so frustrating! The camera is also less immediate & more often fails. I would be happy to pay a small fee to remove the ads but not £7.99 pm when I don't use any of the rest of the App. Most of the initially free Apps (as this was) just require a small upgrade fee or to re-load a purchased version - surely that would satisfy a lot of loyal, but increasingly frustrated clients. Come on help us out here!.Version: 7.29.1
✓ GreatWonderful way to track meals and monitor calories..Version: 7.23
✓ DisappointedThis app is a breeding ground for eating disorders..Version: 22.3.0
✓ Great app but too costlyI have been using this app off and on for years. Since before even Under Armor purchased it. I loved using it and I loved the fact that it was totally free. But since it has been getting more and more expensive. I understand that companies need to make money and I get having some premium basic features. I was even comfortable, although a little annoyed, when they put small ads here and there. Today I opened the app to begin using it again after about a year of not and found that when I try to log something an add pops up that I must wait for the countdown and then try to find and hit the tiny little X that pops up which results in usually the App Store popping up that I then have to close. This has made the basic functions of this app unusable in the free version in my opinion. So I looked to see what it’s gonna cost me to remove ads, because I love this app, I want to keep using it. $20 a month! Yes you get other features, none of which I’m interested in. But $20 a month. That’s a scam! I’ll pay you $20 one time to remove ads, maybe even $1 a month. This app went went from a group of developers who cared and wanted to make something good for the community, to a large company who introduced premiums, to another company who decided to try and squeeze out every cent from the users by making the app unusable without a subscription or a ton of patience. If you are thinking of trying this app look elsewhere!.Version: 22.17.0
✓ Great app.Good app, easy to use, good information etc. Reason for not giving more stars... Syncing from Fitbit is painfully slow. It logs all info on to Fitbit but the steps to the app is terrible. I’ve tried taking it off and re adding but still the same. It means any extra calorie allowance is added far too late in the day when some of it could have been used. Since the last update it also doesn’t count my Fitbit steps as exercise?!? I usually hit near the 10,000 mark but this isn’t exercise?! Doesn’t make sense! The app is a little glitchy... crashes or freezes at times. Finally (this may be on the paid version but I don’t need that) adding something to either record or give allowance for menstrual cycle etc would be good. Most of us know we add 1lb that week so telling the app this information could change things too. It might also make the user feel a little better if they go over on needed sugar etc due to this. Just some thoughts really. Enjoying using it though..Version: 21.15.0
✓ New updates aren’t goodWhen i updated the app, i didn’t know that when i wanted to add my food all in one go let’s say onto the category ‘dinner’ i couldn’t. i had to manually put in the option for that, above the search bar. yeah i just noticed that when i thought i added everything in one go all happy and then i look into the table where my food is supposed to be and there’s no sign of that, just the calories added up. what’s up with that?? the cals adde but there’s no food logged. i refreshed the app. i’ve restarted my phone bc i thought it was the case. but no, still the same. fix it please it’s annoying. last versions were better because when you added food, you were shown where it is. now with the thing above the search bar is just confusing..Version: 22.7.0
✓ Food database is sometimes inaccurateFollowing some weird daily totals for my sodium intake, I did some digging... Firstly, I found that many foods have multiple entries, depending on whether you search manually, or scan the barcode. This wouldn’t matter if the nutrition information tallied - unfortunately, it mostly doesn’t - there are often nutrients completely omitted from on or other of the entries. Also, following my research, I have now found several entries where the quoted sodium amounts per serving are ridiculous. I suspect this may have been due to an enthusiastic user entering the amount printed for salt. Unfortunately, salt is not just sodium, it’s sodium chloride (NaCl). Since sodium has an atomic weight of around 23 and Chlorine is around 35.5, the true value for sodium should be around 0.39 of the value shown for salt. One packet soup I found even had the correct sodium value printed on it - the database had the salt value entered, but, even then, it was wrong (the packet said 1.5 grams and the database said 1.9 grams, for an identical serving size. I may not expect a user with no or minimal chemistry background to get this right, but I would expect the database administrators to pick it up and correct it - especially as the subscription cost for the premium version is pretty high (in my opinion, way too high). In short, this is completely unacceptable for a premium priced (overpriced) application..Version: 19.12.5
✓ Really needs improvementsGreat concept, tracks calories well... but! Will not track steps through iPhone health app consistently, did so for some time, but no matter resetting and re-syncing it will not work which is really frustrating. The worst- It keeps resetting start date weights and throwing out your progress, only fix is to bring your starting weight up to a later date to get accurate total weight loss, really poor in my opinion given the cost of the app, it really has way too many issues to be a streamlined experience, basically missing very key items working properly.Version: 21.25.6
✓ Great app now ruined by adsMy Fitness Pal was a great app that I’ve used for years, however it has now been cheapened and ruined by advertising throughout the app that can only be disabled by a prohibitively expensive “premium” subscription. Just give us a one time paid ad free version please. Looking for an alternative in the meantime..Version: 21.3.5
✓ Too messyThe food database is full of duplicates and mistakes and other inaccurate or incomplete information. It’s not worth it to me to track if I’m not getting accurate nutritional info..Version: 19.12.0
✓ Great for tracking meals. Big bugs. This app has been useful for tracking my meals over the last year but there are some issues. The app will read and write the *same* data from Apple Health, screwing up your weight in both apps. I always update my weight in Apple health but when you look at the data in the app it shows the source of the data and after every entry in Apple, there is an identical entry written by MFP. Sometimes this is a day after another entry and this especially screws up my data. Doesn’t seem there is an easy way to fix and has increasingly become a frustrating problem. The good features are the ability to see your data at a glance under the progress tab that is easy to get to and shows progress in weight, steps, and other body measurements. I have tried a few other apps that have a much nicer UI (like Senza) but while it looks great, the design is a bit more complicated to use. KetoDiet has much more relevant, diet-inclusive recipes than MFP but it probably would not be as useful to someone on a different diet. Overall this is the best app for most people that may be on any number of diets, as you are able to track macros and calories (even from many restaurants) quickly and add workouts. Those are the basics of most body management plans and this app does it best..Version: 20.24.6
✓ Almost Very GoodAside from some inter-app syncing issues (which can usually be fixed without much effort) this is a solid app. Definitely made calorie tracking easy and help me to lose a bunch of weight. My main annoyances are that little consideration has been given to those of us outside the US. The nutritional information on our food is different, and aside from letting us dig through the settings to switch back and forth between cal and kj (why can’t we just toggle between these in the info entry fields?) there are some annoyances when it comes to manually adding new items. For example, if the exact amount of certain nutrients is listed on the packaging, but MFP only accepts % of DI, I have to calculate that before I can add it. Certain nutrients and vitamins there isn’t even an option to add. Etc etc. Also the search function is a bit funky, often it gives too results that are barely similar to what I type, when there are almost identical (or completely identical) results buried way down the list. There’s also no way to correct foods that have incorrect serving sizes. If someone’s added wrong info for that barcode, good luck, you’ll have to make a custom meal and search for it every time. For no good reason other than they don’t care. I also love how the my gradually remove basic features from the free tier over time instead of fixing the broken features which would compel one to pay for it in the first place..Version: 22.24.0
✓ Make MyFitnessPal Great Again.Recently there’s been WAY too many ads, useless ones at that. Like no, I do not want to try out some dumb tennis game. I’ve been using this app for years but I’m just about ready to pull the plug on it. Developers need to fix this ASAP..Version: 22.17.0
✓ Issue has been fixed recently, support still thumbs down** reminder issue fixed.. took a long time and removed two stars due to the unprofessionalism of the support team that continually closed the ticket and ignored my responses.. This type of service is poor even for a free user, but for a Premium user is Incomprehensible and the worst I’ve experienced in any subscription service. Been a user since before the days that it was bought out by UA. Ever since then it’s gone down hill and being a Premium user just means no ads and some features. Been having an issue for 6 months and support closes my ticket and refuses to address the issue, and when I reopen it’s always the same song (it’s with the Dev Team). Also the database is pretty off for a lot of the foods, and doesn’t seem to be moderated at all. If you can give it a miss I’d suggest you do so or use free as premium support isn’t very premium at all..Version: 21.21.0
✓ Can’t handle nightshift lifeThis app is great and I’m sure it will help me get on top of my eating, but unfortunately it seems to be hardwired to deal with days without regards to the end user. If I could set what time a “day” happens for me, it would go a long way to a better end-user experience! I’m a nightshift worker, so I wake up at 3pm and go to bed at 7am. For me, “breakfast” lands about 4pm, “lunch” is about 9pm, and “dinner” is while I’m at work, usually 2:30am. However, by the time I get around to putting in my lunch into the system, it’s already decided the day has ended and I’m starting a new day. I’d like to know how many kilojoules I’ve eaten since last I slept, not since some arbitrary time of night..Version: 7.29.1
✓ Complex un useful supportI had been using the free version of this app for a year or so and it is very good, recently I upgraded to the full Premium version, it was when l started to try using the premium features l had problems, one of which was trying to register for a particular challenge, when trying to register l was getting an error message, so l took a screen shot of the message and sent it off to ‘priority customer support’ the next day l received an email from customer support asking me to send some additional information which consisted of 11 questions. This is ridiculous! The question ranged from who, is my internet provider, what is my location, what language the app is set to….and more. Given l sent a screen shot of the error message this should be sufficient to work out what the issue is and address accordingly. I will not be sending this requested information and will simply let my years subscription run and not renew. Lesson learnt..Version: 21.25.6
✓ Was good until recentlyOne of the most recent updates seems to have completely messed up the app. It freezes a lot now, decides to lose data, the barcode scanner portion randomly stopped working for a day, just the most random glitches, it used to be so stable and reliable please fix I want to like this app again!.Version: 19.11.0
✓ BrilliantI used to keep a record of my diet/fitness/calories blah blah yawn, but this does it all for you in one handy little gadget! I need to keep an eye on my calcium intake (health reasons) and this keeps a note on this plus loads of other nutrients. Brilliant brilliant brilliant :-D My update - yep still loving it - but it has been bugging me to 'register' on line. I did eventually as I got to a screen that I couldn't get out of?!?!?!, and then I find when registered I've now lost all my regular foods I stored, all my previous logging for weeks!!!! Why, what happened? Am now looking for another app to use! So am sorry, but for that I've since reduced the star rating....... I did previously rate it 5 :-( Grrrr!!! **UPDATE** Since the last update of this App there’s now an extra screen. Log food stuff, add quantity, press tick ……. and the screen takes you back to what you just searched for. Why? Take me back to thr diary please..Version: 22.25.2
✓ Experience ruined by ads - I used to use this app, now I’ll be using LoseIt!I’m super disappointed to find rotating ads in the main UI of the app. 1. This is distracting and makes the UI look bad. 2. These ads use privacy invading trackers inside the app that sends your information back to the ad provider. I used to use this app, now I’ll be using LoseIt Try launching a free, reduced-feature, ad-free version and you’ll see increased traffic in your app..Version: 21.25.7
✓ Registration errorWhen signing up, once i fill out the page with my bday on it, it dosent take me to the next page and when i press the arrow on the top right an error pops up saying that the account cannot be registered.Version: 18.9.1
✓ Advertisement Sell out.Was a good app, now it’s an advertising billboard lol If you enjoy being interrupted with pointless adds then this is for you lol. No longer user friendly and has always had issues reading barcodes especially from Coles. expect to constantly be interrupted with advertisements which makes the overall efficiency of using this app extremely poor. Very little thought has been considered when applying Improvements each update instead the experience is underwhelming at best and more frustration due to this app becoming an advertising tool more than what it was originally intended for. Most organisations use advertisements to support their product/business but you can achieve this with out these adverts disrupting the use and function of the app, an improvement that should be considered for future updates. User Experience should be of priority and addressing the above issues would be a reflection of this..Version: 22.15.0
✓ Very annoying so farI used this app to great affect years ago. It worked perfectly, and was super easy to use. Thought I’d give it another try, as I’m working on my health. I will say that the database of foods is unparalleled. Of course you must be mindful of the fact that not all the info input by users is accurate, still not a big deal overall. However, the functionality of the app is absolutely awful. It crashes a lot and is glitchy, and so far for me has reset my daily goals every day when I log in. I have to re-input them every day - really annoying. I notice that in the many years since I’ve used it the explosion of social media and smart phone use has led to a lot of other add-on features cluttering up the basic function of the app. They’re all good, BUT not at the expense of the app performing the basic tracking functions that it’s ACTUALLY meant for. This is not a new problem either; a quick internet search shows people have been complaining about these issues for years. It’s a shame. I’m going to have to use time looking for an alternative, when I’d prefer to stick with what I’ve got, and what worked for me in the past..Version: 20.8.1
✓ Switching to Loseit!Full page ads, can’t download my data, and barcode scanner is now a premium feature. Ridiculous. I’ve used this app for 8 years but no more. Premium is very expensive and theres no value. Green check foods are often wrong. Just a bad time all around. Time to say goodbye myfitnesspal..Version: 22.17.0
✓ Not my preferred1. The app asks to login frequently and not clear what triggers that. 2. The ads repels users and do not make them pay. Probably some other policy is better such as removing some options like logging water and posting to community. 3. The font is too small it would be good to add an option in settings to allow users choose a bigger size..Version: 19.6.1
✓ Lots of bugs with exercise tracking and poor customer supportI initially loved this app for diet tracking. Easy input of foods. But lots of errors when it tries to calculate exercise. It regularly calculates my exercise calorie usage as -940 (yep, it tells me I should reduce calorie intake if I exercise), it sometimes double logs or doesn’t log at all my exercise, and it doesn’t allow manual logging or correcting of exercise for previous days (which is sometimes necessary because I sometimes don’t catch the errors until the following day). All these problems mean I can’t keep an accurate history. I’ve logged problems with customer support but had to wait a week to receive an automated email that said “Please reply if you still want help” (and I’m a premium subscriber)..Version: 19.2.5
✓ You have to pay to scan barcodes now !I started using this app February 2022 and I absolutely loved it ! I wasn’t interested in any of the paid features and wouldn’t have really used them, not to mention I couldn’t really afford it, so I stuck to the free version and it worked great for me. I lost 30+ lbs from February - August of this year using the app to track my calories and protein. I chose to continue to use the app even after I reached my weight loss goals to maintain my weight and track my progress photos since I often lift weights. I am extremely disappointed to find that they took away the barcode scanner for tracking food from the free version and moved it to the paid version of the app. I used that feature DAILY to track my meals and now I either have to deal with the inconvenience or stop using the app altogether, since I refuse to pay $20/ month to simply be able to scan my barcodes. This was a key feature in my success with this app because I could quickly track my meals when I was working / busy/ etc. If there was even a smaller one time fee to get this one feature back , I would gladly pay it. I will not pay a $20 subscription fee for this. It took away the convenience and ease of use for me and I think it might be time to move on to a different app..Version: 22.20.5
✓ Gets progressively worseWhen I first started using MyFitnessPal probably 10 years ago, it was fast, responsive, rarely found wrong information or items however now the app appears buggy, adverts all over the page like its a free game popping up etc. With the recent announcement to hide the barcode scanner behind the paywall, I simply cannot justify continuing to use the app. I, like many, would be happy to pay for this app but A) £65/year (on offer) is still far too high for what it does and B) its development is going backwards not forwards. Ive entered my weight into MyFitnessPal for years and recently had a need to export the data, alasthis isn’t allowed without paying for premium. You have stored my data and essentially blocked me from accessing it. Disgusting, will be swapping to LifeSum or similar and will happily pay the £20/year they want for premium..Version: 22.16.5
✓ Used to be helpful - now just disguising.Since UA takeover this app has become a shadow of former self. Privacy invading, money hungry social network that left its first users (myself included) in the dirt after they helped build its massive food database. The app wants me to pay to take advantage of its features, many of which exist because others like me spent hours of ours lives adding bar codes and editing nutritional information of hundreds of products. We did this for free to help support a great app that could in return help us in our journeys. We didn’t need ads, social network features and surely we didn’t want to excessively share or personal info.( Never mind data breaches.) And sure as hell we didn’t expect that one day the very app we helped build will ask us to pay for the stuff we put into it. Thanks but no thanks. I’m out. Disgusting..Version: 19.12.0
✓ Long Time User App Down The DrainI don’t do reviews, but wow, I’m mad enough to do one now. I been using this app since 2018 and its been great for me. Loved the app over the years. However, lately in the past year or two its gone down the drain. Cutting back on “features” that’s really a horrible way of forcing people to buy premium to get those “features” back. They’re even moving barcode scanner to premium now. Are you serious MFP? This has been a free feature for years and now its going to premium for what reason besides thickening your bottom line while screwing over your daily users. Its a nice feature that we shouldn’t have to pay for now. Other apps have this for free as well. They even have these large, annoying pop up ads which the app never had before. I don’t mind unobtrusive ads like before but this is ridiculous especially if you’re logging multiple things. You log one thing and then the ad pops up and you gotta just stare at it before clicking the x in a few seconds. I think I’m going to be changing apps soon. Also, the UI changes over the years has been horrible for performance. The app is laggy a lot and I’m on a new iPhone too. If you’re reading this review and thinking about downloading the app DO NOT. Find a different app that gives you basic features for free and actually cares about their users health and not their bottom line. Seriously disappointing, I hope they revert these changes after all the recent negative reviews….Version: 22.16.5
✓ Unusable - constantly crashesUsed this app for years. But over the past year or so after various updates it’s unusable. Either they block features behind a paywall now, or the app just doesn’t work. Every time I open the app I get maybe 10 seconds of being able to use it before it crashes. They really killed what used to be a great app.Version: 22.23.0
✓ Technically a horrible appOn principal, this app is great. The method of calorie counting is the only way I know how to lose weight and maintain it. My fitness pal makes that possible. But from a technical standpoint, it’s awful. It’s basic stuff. It freezes up all the time, or it’s slow at the very least. It’s search is kinda bad. When I search recent foods, it doesn’t seem to always remember them or it’s as if I have to type it in verbatim, all words and the brand in order. At the very least it should remember something I ate a few weeks ago. Seems like it doesn’t. There’s a lot of clutter in the database. For example I can do without other people’s recipes that say “1 serving,” How do I know how big a serving is? It’s interface is weird and pretty much outdated, it’s hard to find features. And yes, to be fair this is an app that I’m using every time I eat, so I’m holding it to high standards. But this is why it should be better. Counting calories is annoying, stupid, and it takes too long. I need something sooooo streamlined. I’ve been using it for years and I’m so tired of it. Seriously, exhausted. It’s known to be the most popular app for its purpose, so that’s why I use it. I’m doing research for a new one. We’ll see what I find. I might not beat it, I don’t know..Version: 19.12.6
✓ Not worth it anymoreI have been using this app since around 2009? It’s not worth it anymore. I opened it up, and to my surprise these people started charging for the most basic feature. One that has been free for so many years. They know people use it and need it so they were hoping to gain money thinking people would desperately pay for it. No way is a barcode worth $20/month when there are plenty of other apps that still allow their barcodes for free. This app always has issues now anyway. When scanning an item, it doesn’t always even come up with the right nutritional info. It happens a lot. Sometimes it doesn’t even find it and it’s not some weird food either. After using it for over a decade, I hate having to change, but I refuse to support a company who does something so drastic. It isn’t like there is anything amazing that was added. $20/mo just for a barcode is a major no. Not when it was free for years and years. Way to treat current users this way. Wasn’t even as if it was new accounts. Lol they would not add a $20/month fee themselves for something like that, if that’s literally all you needed it for. Shows poor service. They also are impossible to get ahold of so I’d never pay for it when I can’t even get in touch w them easily as it is. 🙄 I’ve already downloaded another app and used it..Version: 22.20.5
✓ Fine until I became a Premium UserI have used MFP for a number of years, mainly to ensure a good carb/fat/protein balance. To get the best out of the app, and to track more accurately, I recently took the plunge and became a Premium User. I’d like to add, at this point, that I have never given a product/app a one star review, which gives the reader an insight into my level of frustration. The benefits of being a Premium User were obvious and I was motivated to use the app daily, initially. Then, the app started asking me to log in each time I opened it (including when I was toggling between apps when, for example, I was finding nutrients from a website); in addition to this, I had to ‘agree to all’ data consents every time, which became tedious. As a Premium User, I apparently have ‘Priority Customer Support’ so I gave it a go and contacted MFP. The response was to apologise for the issues, say that the technical team is looking into it and suggest that, in the meantime, I try the website instead. I did respond 2 days ago and am awaiting a reply (24/7 Priority Customer Service). The issue persists. In order for people to buy into the whole ‘food journal’ concept, it has to be simple. In order for people to find their way around the app, it has to be simple. In order for people to sustain their motivation, it has to be simple. It used to be simple...until I became a Premium User..Version: 19.8.0
✓ If you have body issues THIS IS NOT FOR YOUAll this app did was make me analyze everything I ate. For weeks I was obsessed and then Deeper and deeper into depression I fell, deeper and deeper into hating myself, my body, and what I put in it. Constantly starving myself, questioning my portions. The Worst experience. Just be you and love yourself. Oh and have a burger once in a while!.Version: 20.10.0
✓ I understand needing ad revenueI get it. Gotta pay your bills. But forcing full page ads that block me from actually using the app doesn’t make me want to pay for premium, it makes me want to find a new app instead of MFP. I end up quitting the app and reopening it later..Version: 22.17.0
✓ Some good functionality, but big thumbs down for the food searchMy nutrition coach asked me to download and use My Fitness Pal so we can set goals and track calories and macros. The goal setting is fine. But for some reason the recipes that my coach has set up in My Fitness Pal are not coming up in the search results, no matter what variation of search terms are used. She has set the recipes as “public” so that is not the issue. I can see hundreds of other (often not relevant) search results so it’s not a problem with my access or connection. This needs to be fixed - so recipes marked as public are searchable by others. Also, it’s very annoying that a recupe can’t be quick added with just calories and macros added, it’s so time consuming to have to put in every single ingredient to get the values. Please fix this also..Version: 21.22.5
✓ Good app, if you don’t mind being treated like a childI am a paying premium member (not for long). Whenever I entered my weight, I kept getting this message asking if I’d like to change my goal weight to match the recommended range. I click on the “No Thanks” button and that should be that, but it isn’t. The next day when I enter my weight, I get the same annoying message (and you have to answer it otherwise you cannot proceed). Again I click, “No Thanks,” but the app doesn’t care. So I contacted support and they made me go through all these hoops and hurdles and (including a full reinstall of the app) and a week of email exchanges later, and they tell me, “There is no way to turn it off as your goal weight is right on the line of healthy. While we do feel it's very important to keep the message in the app to deter users who may be attempting to reach dangerously low goal weights, we do acknowledge that it's not relevant for a member like you who is still in the healthy range." In other words, they’re going to do nothing because you'd prefer to "deter users who may be attempting to reach dangerously low goal weights." So not only is this a poor reflection on how you treat a premium member like me, but also on how you treat your other members whom you choose to treat like children and tell them what's good for them and not let them decide for themselves by REPEATEDLY giving the same message and not stopping until they change their goal..Version: 21.17.0
✓ Can’t find weight logs after updateUPDATED REVIEW: thank you for your reply. It still takes about 4 swipes just to get down to the weight and steps section. Swiping left/right is easy, but I never would’ve found this by chance or by reading the FAQs as they are. The cards are too big to fit on the screen, so swiping up and down doesn’t work well. Also, I don’t see weight totals like before (lost/gained X amount in the selected amount of time) - the charts aren’t especially helpful on the dashboard because again the cards are too big and don’t fit the data height-wise. I hope you put it back into a convenient place in a future update. If so, I’ll update my review and rating because it really was a great app before. ORIGINAL REVIEW (gave it 2 stars): I’ve searched all over the app, and in the FAQs on the website, but can’t find a place to log my weight anywhere in the new design (I’m using an iPad). It says there’s a card for it on the dashboard, but there’s nothing but 4 cards (3 of which are “premium”). I can’t see my old weight logs either. I can log my food, but a weight loss app is kind of pointless if you can’t keep track of your weight. Really disappointed, hoping it’s reintroduced in a more convenient place (or almost any place at this point)..Version: 22.12.5
✓ Don’t use if you are disabled app subscription via PayPal not via Apple app store! You need to be switched on to these individuals, I cancelled my subscription due to my disabiliy osteoarthritis, two hip and a knee replacement I found the program was not for me. I received notice that a payment was being taken via PayPal as this is not a subscription you can cancel in the Apple app store. Therefore if you want to cancel and it's on the day of the withdrawal from your bank account this company wins as the have written in to their refund policy that you need to give 24 hrs before the money is withdrawn. I have been to and fro with emails trying to explain to customer services that I have mitigating circumstances due to my disablity and medical evidence that I can provide in order to get my refund for none use of this app and they have refused! I am now going to consult with trading standards and will seek advice to take this further. I feel discriminated against because the app does feature any fitness for disabled individuals!.Version: 22.15.0
✓ It gets worse everytimeI’ve been using the app for a number of years now, and it gets worse with every update. From design issues to syncing problems, along with constantly being pestered to accept personalised ads (which just FYI is illegal in the EU as you are required to give user a way to say no) it’s getting to the stage where I’m going to go back to using a pen and a piece of paper. And now comes this latest redesign - which they’ve somehow manage to slip in without needing the app to be updated... Gone are the clear, easy to read sections laid out well so that everything is quick to use at a glance. In comes a bland, black and white redesign with fonts and styling that a five year old would have done a better job of. Along with that, they’ve not fully updated all sections of the app - so it’s now a hideous mismatch of the previous clean design and the new awful to use redesign. And of course, with this being their latest update, the sync is once again broken - which happens with every single update. Ever since UnderArmor bought MyFitnessPal, it’s steadily gone downhill. They don’t care about their users, or the experience of using the app. You’re now constantly pestered by adverts and pushes to buy premium. Why on earth would I buy premium when you can’t even get the free version to work?! Honestly, I wouldn’t bother wasting your time with this app anymore..Version: 19.6.1
✓ Eating disorderIt just gave me an eating disorder and made my life miserable tbh.Version: 21.8.0
✓ Way too expensive!I really like this app. Although not perfect, it has many features I personally find helpful. I used to pay for a premium membership, but was disgusted to come back after a long break from the app to see that it is now $28 CAD per month. Not a chance you will ever get a penny out of me at that price..Version: 22.3.5
✓ Used to be goodI’m a long time loyal user of mfp, over 10 years. It was never fancy but it served my needs and had a huge database and was just the OG app every fitness person used. I never thought I would have to switch to another app until now. Ever since it was sold by underarmour to a private company is has gone downhill. The app is now so inundated with ads you can barely log anything without annoying pop ups plastering your screen and slowing down your logging process. On top of this, I think the ads may be affecting the app’s performance because I have had far more crashes and freezes lately than in the past. There is nothing more aggravating than being halfway through creating a recipe for a meal you meal-prepped for the week to have the app crash and you lose all your measurements that you’d recorded up to that point. The final straw for me was when they put the barcode scanner behind a paywall. MFP is very expensive compared to other calorie tracking apps. I can’t imagine anyone would hand over the money for a feature that has historically been free and for an app that is increasingly buggy and annoying to use. I can’t believe I will be leaving MFP but I just deleted the app today and transitioned to MyNetDiary which seems to have a decent database, a free barcode scanner, and an interface that doesn’t hurt my head to look at..Version: 22.19.5
✓ Update and dashboard are extremely inefficientPlease make the dashboard go away and revert to the previous screen set up upon opening the app. You are wasting space and making the app inefficient and inconvenient. Everything that I want to use the app for should be immediately clickable as soon as I open it. I now have to scroll down to enter my weight because you want to display the entirely overused phrase “what’s cooking good looking?” on the top of the screen. Absolutely ridiculous. This serves zero purpose, takes away the functionality of the app, and causes the menu along the bottom of the screen to now be in the way, since so much space at the top is being taken up by that useless phrase in huge font!! It also adds another useless menu option to the menu across the bottom of the screen “dashboard”. We don’t need dashboard and newsfeed. At least add the option to enter weight on that menu instead of the menu’s current selections. Please give me access to my diary, immediately entering a food, and immediately entering my weight effortlessly upon opening the app with one click and no scrolling. We are here to efficiently use the features of the app, not for some feeble attempt at being funny that decreases the app’s use. What’s about to be cooking is my premium subscription if these features don’t go back to being easy and convenient..Version: 22.11.0
✓ I still find this valuable but much worst than it wasI used this daily years ago and it was GREAT! Now I’ve restarted to use it and it is, for a lack of a better word, trash compared to how it was. I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be rude but it was great and now it’s borderline usable. UI is VERY laggy and slow. You tap and it can sometimes take SECONDS to do what you want to do. And it’s even worse, it sometimes just freezes forever so you never know if it’s just a lag or you have to close it and reopen it! Other times it just crashes (which arguably is better than freezing). And then there are the ads, sometimes taking the whole screen until you close them. I don’t remember so many ads and I wonder all these ads are the reason why the app is now so bad. It’s a shame something so good has been ruined for the sake of “innovation” (if you call the UI changes innovation). I loved this app and I still use it because the fundamental idea behind the bad UI and annoying ads is amazing. I wish they didn’t ruin it. PS: If I was one of the shareholders I’d look into what the hell is going on in their product/dev team, look at the reviews, anyone using the app for years has noticed how bad is getting at each update!.Version: 22.16.5
✓ Not User Friendly for Free Users AnymoreWith premium being crazy expensive at $20 a month or $80 a year, I decided to use the free version. It worked so well & I loved it, personally I dint even mind all the different ad bombardments after logging food in. But sadly they decided to put a feature, the barcode scanner which I use regularly behind the premium pay wall. The barcode scanner made my food log ins easier & faster, it's literally a key reason as to why I became more consistent regarding tracking my food. I’m not even going to consider buying premium because it is extremely overpriced. Putting previously free features behind a paywall will not make me wanna buy into an overpriced premium. I guess onto another app that actually offers decent features for its free users. My problem with premium it’s overpriced. I realize premium offers a bunch of different features like a handy barcode scanner now & a lot of different tracking mechanics which is great if you want that. When my goal is literally track my calories & protein (that’s it, I’m not interested in anything else) why would I pay $80 a year or even $20 a month (that’s basically a gym membership by the way) Solution: Creat another cheaper more affordable tier to premium that allows you to do all the basic stuff free users do without ads & a barcode scanner. All the other fancy features could stay behind the more expensive premium tiers. Lets say $2 or $3 a month..Version: 22.20.0
✓ Disliked UI immediatelyYears ago, I used this app to drop some pounds and really liked its features. I’m at a point where I need to reassess my diet and thought this would be a good option to return to, but the moment I opened the app after re-downloading, I just felt like it wasn’t for me. Calorie counting apps are a dime a dozen now, and a lot of them have worked hard on providing an interface that’s both efficient (because who wants to work around a clunky app when it already takes lots of time out of your busy day to record meals?) and visually pleasing (weight and dieting can be an unpleasant subject, right?). MyFitnessPal was clunky from the moment it requested my vitals (difficult to scroll and go to the next input field), to the tutorial, to the constant pop ups demanding I consider upgrading to premium. I’ve barely used the app yet, why not leave me alone and try again when I’ve actually had time to experience it? There is no focus on calorie information on the home page, instead dedicating screen space to blog posts etc. that I don’t have the time or desire to read anyway. It’s difficult to find the wearable device/app integration options. The camera scanner is much slower than other apps I’ve used with the same technology. Overall there is no sleek design or cute graphics that would make the this app unique or pleasant to use regularly. I was just disappointed in how far this app has fallen behind, and you probably will feel the same..Version: 20.24.7
✓ Why no gender neutral options?Like the app for tracking and recently re-downloaded. Went to sign up again and not only is selecting a gender mandatory, there’s no gender neutral option. Last time I checked, the nutritional breakdown of food is the same no matter who’s eating it. I want to continue to use this app, but I need a gender neutral option..Version: 19.9.11
✓ Fix the macro/calorie calculation!I love the app interface and volume of food available to log, but this App fails on the basic calculation of calories based on macros. 4cal per gram of protein and carbs. 9cal per gram of fat. This simple math should be a fundamental thing to get right but it simply doesn’t work properly. Example - my remaining Marcos for the day I’m posting this review are (C36, F43, P38). This equates to 683cal but the calorie count says 688. All my other meals are off as well by around 3-5%. It skews the whole total and really should be fixed as a high priority bug. Can’t give any higher than a 2 because of this..Version: 19.5.0
✓ App stopped scanning forces you to subscribeUsing basics and do not need full version… but they are Reducing features to force you to subscribe… go figure … I stopped the updates as they remove features !!!!! Like scanning bar codes!.Version: 22.24.5
✓ FrustratingI tried this app for a couple of weeks, it seemed ok but really frustrating as it didn’t seem to recognize many common foods despite the claim it has one of the largest data bases, I switched to a more functional app. What’s really motivated me to a one star rating was I subscribed to a free trail, after using the app for two weeks then moving to another I forgot all about it and ended up paying for a years sub for the premium even tho I’m not using it… my fault ? Most likely but a message to say my free trial was ending would have been nice I think that’s pretty underhanded imnz2.Version: 21.21.0
✓ BarcodeLAZY company. Moving standard features to premium instead of coming up with new ideas. Will be deleting because of the barcode scanner..Version: 22.16.5
✓ Last update has rendered it fairly uselessIt was great for 2 1/2 months helping me work out what my actual maintenance calories are and helping me hit my macros but for the last week it now won’t sync workouts (even refreshing the newsfeed for 10 mins continuously) which means 6 days a week (workout days) it’s useless for working out how many calories I can eat. I also have to correct pretty much every item of food and have now just started creating a new one instead of scanning it (an egg was showing 27g of salt 😂). Also still don’t understand negative calorie adjustments no matter how many times I read the article. Have it set to not very active and on rest days where I sit at my desk doing literally nothing, it gives me around +60 calories to eat but on days I spent 2 hours in the gym and walk 5-6 miles it shows -160. From the article I would have thought this would be the other way around 🤷♂️.Version: 22.12.5
✓ EhThis app is probably really amazing but it won't let me create an account even if I try logging in with facebook.Version: 7.23
✓ Annoying "personalization" updateSince last update the app keeps asking authorization for "precise location-based content". There's no option to refuse, just "accept" or "remind me later". I'm a premium user and don't want any location based content. Rating 1 star until I get an option to disable / refuse personalized content..Version: 19.3.6
✓ After years of use it’s time to say goodbyeFitnesspal is going to see it’s nails in the coffin probably within a year. the company has decided to go ad heavy, and to essentially force people to switch to premium which is ridiculously priced. Thanks for the great years, but the poor choices you’ve made will cause a mass exodus among your loyal users. I highly recommend you all switch to a more reasonably priced and better laid out app..Version: 22.17.0
✓ ImportantGave me an ED.Version: 21.5.3
✓ Barcode scanning going premium after yearsYeah right.Version: 22.17.0
✓ Almost useless for diabeticsThis health/fitness/diet app claims to be comprehensive, but has a huge gap in its user experience for diabetics. There is no way to input blood sugar readings in real time or to integrate readings from glucose monitors on here. Given how tied to diet and macro nutrients diabetes is, you would think this would've been a basic aspect of the app already - or an add-on that could pop up along with adding food or exercise. I've been a MyFitnessPal member for years and do appreciate the detail, massive database, and ability to input your own recipes you get for free. The meal time stamps it already offers with Premium would be really useful for tracking blood sugar, but nope, the only way to track that is manually adding a bunch of blood sugar categories, and then tracking them under progress, like it's your weight. This is useless when you have to do it 4 times a day or more at different times, and you can't look back at sugar levels as part of your diary (linked to your diet). Do the manufacturers just assume that people interested in fitness and diabetics are mutually exclusive populations? We need either a setting to add our readings with a timestamp, similar to foods, that then can be read as part of the diary; or integration with the most popular glucometer apps. This should be a basic feature, or at least Premium, for a so-called leading health app..Version: 18.10.5
✓ Unreasonable price to get rid of adsI have been using this app for over 10 years and I would always recommend it to people. Lately they have introduced these full page ads that I cannot close - I have to close the entire app to get back in and add another food item - this is really inconvenient. I am also unable to copy across meals from the previous day using the slide function anymore. MFP should really have two options for premium users. One subscription option for those who want all the meal plans and whatever else and one one/off payment option for those who simply want basic functionality with no ads. There is no way I'm going to pay £16 a month to simply not have ads. It is still a very good app but they need to think about their pricing options..Version: 22.16.5
✓ Security RiskThis app is ok except that it keeps triggering my antivirus software. This is disappointing because I’ve been using it for over a year and like the added ability to scan the upc to track my calories. I am going to have to look for a different app. This is what the security pop-up warning says is the problem with this app: Malicious Sources/Malnets Sites that host or distribute malware or whose purpose for existence is as part of a malicious network (malnet) or the malware ecosystem. Malware is defined as software that takes control of a computer, modifies computer settings, or collects or reports personal information without the permission of the end user. It also includes software that misrepresents itself by tricking users to download or install it or to enter personal information. This includes sites or software that perform drive-by downloads; browser hijackers; dialers; any program that modifies your browser homepage, bookmarks, or security settings; and keyloggers. It also includes any software that bundles malware (as defined above) as part of its offering. Information collected or reported is "personal" if it contains uniquely identifying data, such as email addresses, name, social security number, IP address, etc. A site is not classified as malware if the user is reasonably notified that the software will perform these actions (e.g., it alerts that it will send personal information, be installed, or that it will log keystrokes)..Version: 20.10.1
✓ Kills people’s phones (and they know about it)I do really like this app. I’ve used it for years and although some things are a little one size fits all (the calorie count it gives me is too low, but I never take it for gospel anyway) its hands down the best food tracker out there. I lost a lot of weight with it a few years ago by linking it to Fitbit who’s food tracker leaves a lot to be desired, but their calorie round up is more sophisticated. That’s why I didn’t give it 1 star. It doesn’t matter how useful the app is because I can’t use it. Last year I had to delete it because it was killing my phone in the background. I decided to reinstall it a couple of months ago and it started draining the life out of it again, it’s a battery vampire. I contacted customer service the first time and they play dumb and told me to uninstall and reinstall, but a quick google shows that this has been a KNOWN ISSUE for at least FOUR YEARS and they’ve just ignored it for all that time. If anyone’s having issues with their phone battery I recommend checking your battery stats to see what’s been eating the power in the background while you sleep. Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels EXCEPT FOR IPHONE BLOOD..Version: 20.24.7
✓ Used to be the best now pathetic! This app used to be literally the best on the market - it was all I ever used and loved it!!! Since the last update, this app well and truly is a pain in the proverbial backside! Every single time I go to the app it asks me to consent to some stupid data collection policy - like every time I log a meal or a glass of water - yesterday I think I consented at least 20 times. I don’t know what you’ve done My Fitness Pal but you need to fix this stuff up and FAST because it’s becoming very annoying and time consuming and after almost 5 years using this app I’m ready to delete it and say goodbye! To all those looking to start using this app - don’t bother until it’s fixed because it will drive you crazy with the constant requests for data sharing every time you click on the app!.Version: 19.8.0
✓ MehThe micro transactions in this app and all the interesting features behind the paywall are disgusting, especially considering the number of unavoidable adds in the app. Download Cronometer instead..Version: 22.17.0
✓ Declining ever since acquisition by Under ArmorWith every update, this app gets worse. The new UI is frankly the most egregious example of terrible UX design I've seen in years. Functions which were previously a single button tap have been slowly hidden deeper and deeper into the annals of the app, and the latest unnecessary changes have worsened this again. Prior to being acquired by Under Armor, this app was an excellent tool for health and fitness. Ever since, it's become nothing but an advertising board in an attempt to make as much money through commercials and premium plans as UA can possible squeeze from its user base. Yet still, the worst part is that they will always get away with it, because there is no true competitor in the space. Edit: Since writing this review, they've also added full-screen ads to the experience. Amazing!.Version: 22.16.0
✓ Everything wiped!Have had this app for the past 4 years and love using it on and off. Today I opened it to log my food and I had to log in again (never logged out and never been asked to login before since first downloaded) ALL my data has been wiped including goals, saved meals, weight history etc! Am devastated and very annoyed! 🤬🤬🤬.Version: 7.37
✓ What have you done to your app?I’ve used the free version of this app for about 7 years and it has always been helpful, but this latest update is terrible. It is slow, my diary entries have gone missing, and you can’t log glasses of water correctly. Plus, all the premium subscription pop-ups are annoying! I get it, you want people to pay... payment for premium services are great, and I have considered it numerous times, but the free version does everything I need and I’ve always been a huge advocate of MyFitnessPal. Please don’t make the current features useless with annoying pop-ups. With all the competition available today, I won’t need to remain a loyal user of yours. Your Product Owners really need to get back to customer-centred design instead of whatever sales strategy focus they’ve currently got going on..Version: 18.10.5
✓ New update is an eyesoreVery useful app if you seriously count your calories. I’ve reached my goal and lost 20kg! Thank goodness I did before the recent update though because I find the new update to be such an eyesore. Previously it was a lot more easy to see, navigate, and use. 3 stars because the new update is ugly..Version: 22.6.5
✓ Was a great app, now slow bloatwareI've been using this app for a number of years. It was a great app. It used to be simple, fast, with a straightforward UI. The latest release has further driven the app down a path of becoming cumbersome, bloatware that's lost a lot of it's easy-to-use convenience features E.g. The 'Quick Access' button has been removed, quantities are now entered by spinning 'picker' wheels rather than direct access. The performance has also got gradually slower, even on my iPhone 12, to the point where you have to wait to see if you've actually pressed a button. The last 'upgrade' also lost my synced data history. Disappointing..Version: 22.10.5
✓ App Hangs FrequentlyI rely on the app because of its extensive database. I don’t need the other features. This is its value. I briefly considered paying for it, but I suspect that paying for it won’t resolve my problem. This app hangs constantly. If I add a food to the diary, it hangs. Moving a food around, it hangs. It could be anything I do in the app. I don’t have the patience to see if it’s going to start responding again, so I force-quit the app and reopen it. This is extremely frustrating. Surely this is affecting everybody. It does seem to always save what I just did, like adding a food, so there’s not a problem of data loss..Version: 22.13.0
✓ Used to be a great App***Update to my review: I had a response from the MyFitnessPal development team and it completely eschews the fact that removing the free barcode scanner is something irking all of the users if you read the reviews sorted by newest. A company that is not willing to listen to its user base and to make changes to a misstep, has lost our loyalty and our respect. With our comments we are giving them a chance to redeem themselves. And, if we didn’t care, we wouldn’t comment. They are clearly not heeding to the call for change. Who is steering the ship?*** Wow, it used to be a great app. Unfortunately, now that they put the barcode scanner behind the paywall, they’ve lost me. I used to recommend them to everybody and tell them how great my fitness pal was. Now they’re making it too difficult. I didn’t mind ads and I certainly didn’t mind other ways for them to make money, but for the users that did want to use they’re free service, I feel that that was a penny wise pound foolish decision no pun intended. Moving on to the other apps now that count your calories such as Cronometer, Loseit, or Macros over this loss. MyFitnessPal, what you don’t understand is the key to keeping your users, is making it simple for them. Once you’ve lost us and our loyalty, there’s no getting us back as we are now vested in another system. Whoever is at the top needs to be aware that their change in business practice is going to hurt them..Version: 22.24.5
✓ Used to be goodNow with the announcement that they are making the barcode scanner only available on the pro version there’s no point to using this over other apps. Plus they’ve been increasing adds lately to push it even more.Version: 22.17.5
✓ Most frustrating experienceI gave it two stars because I wanted to at least acknowledge what I did like about the application. The only thing I like is the integration with Garmin. Now to the frustrating part. The purpose of checking this application out and going premium was because the previous app I could only set macros one day at a time. Carb cycling and adjusting daily i was looking for an easier way to set it and forget it. I went in and customized the daily macro goals for each day of the week and thought this is exactly what I wanted. The next day I look at my dashboard on the app and it has some crazy numbers that were not part of the baseline goal or adjusted goals for the different carb days. The dashboard on the actual website itself in the summary mirrors those crazy macro numbers but when I go to the goals they are all set and reflect the intended goal. Today alone, without me adjusting the dashboard has changed numbers 3 times. I tried to take the easy route away from a dependable app that I had to adjust once daily to now paying way more money for an application that is pulling numbers from who knows where. The most recent adjustment has me eating 4707 calories when in the goals it reflects 2568. Worst decision made at this point in terms of tracking apps..Version: 22.15.5
✓ I wish the food/recipe part was better!Changing from the nutra check and being used to it, as a baker being able to put in and find out the precise ingredients macros and then go back in to it and change them, without having to rewrite the whole recipe when you find a better option is definitely putting me off the benefits of my fitness pall compared to that side of things with nutra check. Also the link up with my Fitbit was flawless with nutra check and as yet I’ve not been able to properly sync my Fitbit to my fitness pall! I find it strange that for a phone app it’s more suited to a laptop ( which I rarely use ). I do find it much easier working out Macros on my fitness pall which is why I’m giving it a proper try out, however I am leaning more to nutra check for my requirements with recipes and ease of using it through my phone rather than how my fitness pall works, having to go onto a laptop for things I can get without a second thought on another app! Such a pity, combined there the perfect app! 😏.Version: 7.25
✓ HorribleThis is where Ed’s starts I’m 5’8 and 120 pounds and they told me to eat 1200 calories which is 800 calories to low.Version: 20.16.0
