FunkBox Drum Machine for Positive User Reviews

Lovely......And I don't say that about many apps. For me, the main thing that stands out is the quality and treatment of the drum samples. They are just gorgeous, in a way that I have rarely found in other apps. Fat and crisp. As for the app itself, it's just really nicely thought out, which makes it intuitive and fun to use - two of the most important attributes of any good music making app. As a long time music producer and user of hundreds of VSTs etc., it takes a lot to impress me and I have bought many other "toy" apps that disappointed me after drawing me in with exaggerated claims of quality. Yes, it's a (relatively) simple app...It's not Beatmaker or Nanostudio. It's supposed to act like an "old school" drum machine, but with extras (quite a lot, actually -especially the MIDI routing, which again, is done very nicely), but that's reflected in the price and also makes it much more direct to use, which is a good thing if that's what you're in the mood for. The only thing that I find slightly insane is the fact that the step grid is fixed at 32 beats! I just don't understand how they possibly thought that people wouldn't want a 16 beat (1 bar) option. Am I missing something?! It's more than a minor niggle. I would marry the developers and have their babies if they put this in the next update. Or maybe just give it 5 stars. Anyway, apart from that, I fully recommend it..Version: 3.2

The Best Drum MachineThis is an amazing Drum machine for 5.00. The only thing is I wish it had a randomizer for drum patterns..Version: 4.0.1

Love itHands down the best drum machine on iOS and rivals both software and real world boxes. It certainly has helped me to appreciate them and collect a few special chosen hardware candidates - and FUNK BOX works well with all of them ~ especially the Yamaha RX-5. FEATURE REQUESTS: Would like to see a way to implement different number of steps on the grid - 16 and 12 not just 32 steps. This has been support suported and well documented too Thanks for doing a pdf manual !! Totally recommend~ little midi machine as well ~ great software!!!.Version: 3.2

Just get it.I would pay a lot more for this app. The last update was fantastic..Version: 2.2

Great analog synthFantastic app worth every penny. Recreates several analog synths very faithfully and is easy to use for those vintage sounds, programming and tweaking. Unlike a lot of apps this isn't just a toy it can be genuinely used to make and output music and ideas, live or for recording. I'm really impressed and would definitely recommend it..Version: 2.2

Fun!Fun to play with for a while if you are interested in retro sounds and equipment, but the basically the same samples are available in a lot of other apps with easier to use interfaces if you are purely interested in making music..Version: 2.2

One of the bestReally like this app. I have a lot of Ipad drum machines and they all suffer from over compressed samples, one that i won't name has a bass drum that sounds like someone kicking a wet cardboard box... the sounds in funkbox are very clear and usable..Version: 2.2

Favorite App of All TimeThis app has literally stayed on my home screen for 4 consecutive iPhones. No exaggeration, it is to me the greatest app ever made..Version: 4.0.1

Excellent app, just one niggle.-Revision- After several attempts it has finally loaded my old saved banks so I can use the app again. This is great, but I'm still not giving 5 stars till it's completely fixed. I would still recommend this app wholeheartedly. --- I used to love this app, the user interface is nice and the sounds are great. However, since the most recent update I cannot load any of my saved banks (which altogether took quite some time to assemble) it just crashes, making the app useless to me as I only use my own patterns and I don't have time to make them all again. Once this is fixed, I'll very happily give it 5 stars!.Version: 3.0

RippinLove this app, recommend it often, and use all the time for writing and for break beats in tunes!.Version: 4.0.1

Brilliant 🎶I write music commercially, but due to a long illness which has caused me to be bed-bound, I've made the barmy (but if lucky, maybe inspired) decision to write a body of work on my iPhone. I set myself a budget of £75. Some of the beatmakers (or packages that have drum-machines/sequencers thrown in) that I've bought include iMaschine, BeatMaker 2, bleep!BOX and Nano Studio, all of these except iMaschine allow for copy/pasting between apps, as does FunkBox. What makes FunkBox standout from the other apps I've mentioned is it's immediacy and also it's fun-factor. On first impressions it can seem like there isn't much to it, or it's just a toy but this is mis-leading. Apart from it's comprehensive MIDI integration capabilities, it's incredibly well thought out. There's a link to a short, incisive but essential manual that uncovers a lot of stuff that this little app is capable of, which isn't obvious unless you dig a little deeper. It's the easiest of all the apps I've mentioned to get your loop "out" of your iPhone, either as MIDI data or as a WAV file. The simplest way is to simply email the patterns to yourself, or send it to iTunes, from where you can retrieve it from iTunes Documents in the app section. Also, pasting your loop for use in another app, such as the ones mentioned above or others such as Moog's Filtatron is incredibly hassle-free, just go to Export, and hit Paste, and then you're ready to copy into whichever app you choose. All nine drum kits can be mixed and matched, and hidden away are alternative versions of each drum kit. I've briefly fed FunkBox through my studio monitors and the samples are top-notch quality, which I guess is the most important part. For me, the nicest thing about FunkBox is it's charm. They've really captured the essence of late '70's drum machines in the GUI, and it's just a pleasure to use. Brilliant!.Version: 2.2

Love it! But...Would give 5 stars to have Ableton .als file export with separated stems for each instrument. Please update Dev! Solid app and well worth the money. Requested features would make this a game changer app!.Version: 4.0.1

Super useable drum machineI play and record a bunch of different instruments but I’m nowhere near a competent (on time) drummer. For the styles I play (hip hop/soul), FunkBox allows me to create amazing grooves with timeless sounds. Honestly not sure why this app doesn’t have more reviews. It has so many of the classic drum machines that I grew up hearing. Took me a while to figure out that if you tap on the image of the drum machine in the ‘Box’ tab, that you can build your own drum machine from the samples of each classic machine. The only issue I have so far is that I can’t figure out (or it needs to be added) how to start/stop the drum machine while in any tab other than the ‘Funk’ tab..Version: 4.0.1

One of the best!FunkBox has been my go-to drum app since it came out. That was a while ago, and FunkBox has always been in the forefront of iOS development. While it’s fun to use, it’s also one of the most useful apps I own. With Audiobus 2,IAA' and the array of apps available in the effects positions, There are nearly endless possibilities. Buy it and enjoy!.Version: 3.4

Simply AmazingIt's like stepping back in time and having many of old drum machines at your finger tips..Version: 3.0

Good stuffHad this in the collection for ages, forgot to reload it when I upgraded devices. glad to see it's had some interesting updates! writing this review with two tracks looped in djay while synced to a funky funkbox beat. Portable remix dream.. Great work it's amazing.Version: 2.2

HUGE potentialThis app is already totally dope, but I really hope the dev continues to update. There's lots of super cool dirty old beat boxes, but I'm greedy and I want more. Also I would love to see extra slots to store user generated beats. A few effects would be cool... and if you could export beat loops it would be off the chain. This is already a fantastically fun little beat app though, and you should support these guys and buy it. Absolute neccessity for fans of vintage drum machines, and a very well designed interface..Version: 0

Superb!Makes me wish I hadn't got rid of all my hardware. Love it, especially the '78. LinnDrum please!!.Version: 0

Latest version no good for iPhone 5sApp crashes, Cannot open it anymore under iOS 7..Version: 3.6

Link ?Had this since the beginning .. in those days, it struggled to keep time. Now it's rock solid sounds great and has a tiny foot print for such a well featured app. Just short of a song mode now..Version: 4.0.1

My Favourite AppThis is one brilliant app and along side garage band it's deffinatley my favourite. The athetics and fell of it it are perfect. Well done chaps.Version: 2.2

Super coolThis app is killer if you like those old drum boxes because know you can program them really easily with tr step style. an improvement would be an eighth not triplet option to get that real cool beat box groove but the swing option is great anyway. real cooooooooool. Please ad midi mobilizer support and your work will be complete. Master and slave clock would make this an incredible instrument..Version: 2.1

GreatGreat app. I've been using it for ages and still having fun creating patterns on the go. Loads of different drum machines in one. Very highly recommended from me :-).Version: 3.5

Finally!I've been looking for a affordable, iOS based drum machine that's compatible with iPhone for ages and here it is. Experiment for a while and you find it's very versatile. I now jam bass to it great..Version: 2.2

Awsomest app ever!I have been using the original version which was much more basic than currently - it always left a smile on my face - locked to my kaoss pads for ages! Just updated - wow - awsome app - it will be a major part of my setup for ever!.Version: 2.0

Love this APP, you get out what you put InUsed this on a few of my tracks or just to get ideas. Make a loop and then bounce it to audio. Once in audio you can either leave “as-is” or convert that audio to midi in ableton and then fill in w samples from the same drum machine. It will keep the same groove or swing from the box but you can then compress, buss or effect each individual sound. Use it as a starter to get you somewhere else..Version: 4.0.1

Hidden gemInitially I hated this app. I thought it was shallow, and useless, the editor was too simple and I felt I'd never use it.....what a difference using for a week or so will do. I've made some nice beats on here and while the sounds might be semi generic, there are enough options to allow for customizability. Tempo, swing, and equalizer allow you to make each pattern unique or your own. The drum machines are nice too. I love how this app still plays while I open other music apps, and I can play them simultaneously. Worth every penny. I'm trying to use this in an actual performance situation too..Version: 2.2

Another great Beat App!Funk Box is awesome! As of lately I've been using Figure, and DM-1, because they play so well of each other with the WIST feature, but in comes Funk Box. Not only is this app great, but it's also a welcoming edtion to the previous apps mentioned above. WIST feature would be nice if possible, otherwise no complaints 5 stars!.Version: 3.0

Great drum machineBeing an “old guy” that once had to shell out hundreds if not thousands of dollars for analog gear, I have to laugh when I see a complaint like the idiot Oonion’s that the app didn’t have a paste feature. Oh , sob sob, I have to enter all 2 bars of a pattern by hand. Talk about spoiled little brats. This app is wonderful for all that it does. I highly recommend it for use in all sorts of situations. Price is fine. $5, big deal. I spent $6 just the other day on a fruit torte, this app lasts much longer. Yeah, it won’t make your lunch and clean the house but you’ll have hours of enjoyable beat making. Yeah it has limitations but that’s the beauty of a specific piece of gear, you work within those parameters. Just get it, and make some music..Version: 4.0.1

Quirky but UsefulFunkBox is definitely not the most authentic sounding drum machine emulation, well at least not on every machine, but it's an incredible deal to get this many features at this price. So glad it includes the MRK2 so I can do Sly Stone! I like the quirky vintage styled interface...lot of attention to detail in the design. Overall not as well laid out as others like DM-1, but still, very nice range of features. Best feature: combining patterns by pressing multiple buttons, just like the good ol days!.Version: 3.4

Ios 8 Error :(Love this app, more sounds needed though, plus it has a sound error pop up at the beginning under ios 8..Version: 3.4

Well done.Hello Very well laid out app with a rich feature set. The developers have been very creative and clear in their GUI design, making the app an intuitive experience. Though there are many drum apps available with the same feature set (or a larger feature sets), the attention to GUI design and layout places FunkBox with a clear advantage, namely: Playability. Regards Krzysztof Szychowski.Version: 2.2

Simply the best drum box on iOS!I loved funkbox when I first got it on my iphone. It is without doubt the most versatile drum machine emulation for an iOS device, complete with a nostalgic and beautifully designed interface and top quality samples. I cannot imagine how much it would cost to purchase all these original drum machines, yet alone sync and control them with midi. Version 2 of funkbox is a major upgrade and turns this app into a truly professional replacement for a midi drum machine. The range and quality of samples is amazing, crisp and clean yet with the feel of analog. The preset patterns make it quick and simple to accompany yourself and be creative, and you can create and edit your own if you wish. In version 2 you can even load and edit new drum kits, tweak individual sounds including tuning and pan. I havent yet tried the midi features but they look to be very comprehensive. The interface has also been redesigned and improved to take advantage of the iphone and ipod touch retina display, along with the bigger screen of the ipad. Without doubt this is my favouritw drum box app, only wish I could sync it internally with Garageband on my ipad! It would be cheaper to buy an ipad and this software than buy just one of these original drum machines! Simply brilliant. Update: Version 2.1 now adds background multitasking, this means you can play the funk drum machine in the background and then jam over the top using other synth apps such as NLog Pro, Synthtronica... this is just too much fun! Definitely my favourite drum machine on iOS, now I wonder if i can also midi sync when multitasking between apps!.Version: 2.1

Fantastic!Fun, easy to use, looks great, nice embelem, great price, best drum app around! 5*.Version: 1.4

Great appIf you are looking for a great drum machine for making music this is it. Easy to use and a very well laid out manual. I can't believe its so good on my PHONE!!!! Easy to use, easy to export. I had an Alesis years ago always went wrong and cost £200 this is better. A couple of bugs ive noticed in tap mode some of the sounds are not what they should be. rim shot was something else and cowbell was a drum but can live with it as its so good and different machines work better. Fantastic.Version: 3.5

So much fun! This app is excellent! So many great vintage sounds. It gives you everything you need to dive in and create funky beats quickly but even the more advanced features like mixing are intuitive and easy to use. Maybe add a different way to save custom beats and it will be almost perfect!.Version: 0

Still great after all these yearsUntil/unless Uli ever makes good on his promise to clone the hardware, this remains the best CR78 emulation out there. And 808. 909, OBX… and so on. Brilliant, brilliant app!.Version: 4.0.1

Currently broken for iphone 4Used to work great, but on iphone 4, having issues. no ability to switch machines anymore, and all presets locked.Version: 0

Useful part of my music makingEasy to build patterns, great sound set. Would love to see more sample packs, and beat patterns..Version: 4.0.1

Funktastic👍Absolutely spot on in everyway ,quality of sounds r superb.interface fun and authentic , ❤️it.Version: 3.5

AwesomeThis is what I've been looking for; that I couldn't find in other apps such as the joke of an app NI iMaschine v.1 and 2 and the MPC app. I can chain more than one sequence together etc. I was almost convinced that I was going to have to buy actual hardware but I can now do everything I wanted right on my phone. This is simple enough to not get discouraged. It makes sense from the first few minutes after you open it. Laid out well and there is a 40 page manual you can download to iBooks. I do industrial metal and this has a load of classic drum machines no extra downloads required..Version: 3.6

AceIt's ace. easy to use, good sounds, update is great. do a loop on the bus, email it to yourself, pick it up at home or wherever, bung it in your DAW. occasional crashes is the only problem but a minor one.Version: 2.0

WonderfulGreat app. 16 PART STEP SEQUENCER WOULD BE GREAT instead of being forced to program 32 step wether you want to or not. Otherwise just really good. Great samples, usable like a hardware box and fun. A rare keeper amongst the many almost useful music apps that never actually get used. Great job Synthetic Bits..Version: 3.5

Perfect. At one time or another I've owned most of the beat boxes included in this app. This is about as good as it gets as far as I'm concerned. The interface is one I understand and takes me way back when. I can stop getting outbid on vintage drum machines on eBay now. OSM.Version: 2.2

Good but..I like this app. I use it when playing my bass. It's easy to use and learn. Needs new sounds though I think, it's been a while Mr Developer...Version: 3.4

AwesomeI've got adm for logic on my MacBook pro. But this is now my go to for pure drum machine grooves. Think sexual healing start up!.Version: 1.4

Simple great sounding drum machineI know it's not a fully featured drum machine but it has all the sample packs you'd really want and enough controls to make some decent beats. It's been really helpful for songwriting, and merged with a few other apps you can basically make hip hop backing tracks all on your phone. This is the best drum machine app I've found!.Version: 3.5

Excellent app!Really please with this app, I downloaded it after a recommendation from a friend who has been using it for months. It's easy to get to grips with and the quality of the final product is great. The tipping point for me though, is being able to email them to yourself in midi format, ready for reason straight away!.Version: 3.2

GreatI've used this a lot, even live at shows! Awesome! Only wish it had fills..Version: 4.0.1

Funk(box)tasticGreat sounds, easy to use, looks really cool, well worth the money!.Version: 2.0

Love it butHave to give 5* but please someone help with a video on saving patterns. I always seem to overwrite them. The Load/Save procedure is labrinthical.Version: 4.0.1

BrilliantThis little box faithfully delivers all of the classic analogue drum sounds, and wraps them in an irresistible visual interface to boot. Brilliant!.Version: 4.0.1

So. Much. Fun.Hooray for Albarn..Version: 2.2

Pretty fantasticOnly a couple of minor quibbles... this is a well thought out great app for sequencing beats. Would be nice if you could sequence songs out of the patterns - and it would really nice if they had a few more drum kits... basicly all the sounds found in the free Shiny Drums app. We use this in practice as a drum mahcine and plan to use it live. All around great app..Version: 0

Very important app for IOS Musician... And I will tell you why, but first please let me get something off my chest! For all the people that experience apps crashing and coming on here to give 1 star with a complaint... Please realize it is not the app or Developers programming causing this. Why would the majority of Users not have these issues while few are? The problem is within your device conflicting with another open app or incomplete downloading on your end. Reviews are vital information for Developers and really need to be used wisely and more maturely. Try closing apps on a daily basis to maintain a healthier IOS device. FunkBox is a very well built app and really captures the essence of the sync box days. I once owned about 80% of these machines and had them all controlled through a Garfield Mini-Doc and I can tell you from experience the emulation is smack dead on point! It is what it is... This is not an app offering modern drum programming. You will find the editing parameters that were available on the original boxes with the ability to share your work with another app for further processing. Well done! I was once a sync box junky and you really nailed it! I use and will use this app in most of my work!.Version: 3.2

Most Fun I Know How To Have With A Drum BoxFunkbox has always been delightful, emulating classic drum machines like the LinnDrum and the Drumulator (I paid $1000 for the latter way back when). But with the new update? It roars! Audiobus 2, including state-saving. Increase in overall volume, which is nice. Invaluable "Open In…" for easy export. MIDI clock interface and even swing with external MIDI! Jeez, these are great devs! Also, as with some of the old Rhythm Ace boxes, you can hit two patterns at once for fun polyrhythms. Love it to pieces..Version: 3.4

High quality & valueConsistent updates, so far, with bug fixes (none that I've experienced) and minor improvements/changes. Great sound. Great UI. Responsive. I recommend this. This is a very inexpensive universal app. It's significantly better than other non universal and more expensive music production apps..Version: 2.1

Love it, problem with DAWWon’t play/record in DAW... the play button diss appears! 😔.Version: 4.0.1

DOPE.This is a frickin' awesome app. Get my beats going on the train, email them to myself, get home throw 'em into Ableton and robert's your fathers brother as they say. Triplets and a 3/4 option would take it to some kinda next....Version: 2.1

Swing..Is a wonderful thing! I've been without my computer and software/daw for a few months now, so when I saw this app for a couple of quid I thought, why not? Brilliant for quick loops on the fly- and when your brain suddenly thinks of a pattern and you want to remember it , quick time! Overall just a good fun piece if software..!.Version: 1.4

PerfectQuite idiot-proof layout. Lowest latency on an iPhone drum app that I've seen yet. I am quite surprised this doesn't have a higher rating when it is probably the only drum app with near-0 latency. Even drum meister lags when you hit the heads, although it's a different drum sound altogether. I hope this company comes out with an acoustic kit so we drummers can jam without all that lag that other brands bring!.Version: 0

3/4 Waltz setting on next update? This is a fantastic little app, which I'd recommend to anyone that is interested in getting those classic analogue drum machine tones. The only thing it is lacking is a function to allow programming in 3/4 timing. Otherwise perfect!.Version: 2.2

Perfect apart from one thingSounds are fantastic, and it's quick and easy to operate. Feels like you're using the original machines. But, choosing the number of steps in a pattern allowing for any time signature would be more interesting than just switching between 3/4 and 4/4. Please allow for this in a future update!.Version: 3.6

Thank you thank you thank youSuperb update, new kits are wonderful, definitely the best ios drum machine. I think it might be time to sell my TR-505 and DR-660.........Version: 3.0

Responsive with quality soundsTap mode feels more responsive than most apps I've tried on my iPhone 5s. Performance on iPad Air 2 seems slightly worse. FunkBox is possibly my favorite iOS drum machine. Simplicity, solid UI, great sounds, MIDI, and very low latency from tap to sound..Version: 3.6

Masterpiece AppUpdate: the last update makes the already amazing FunkBox all the more lovely and everything from the following review still applies: FunkBox is a masterpiece: the more I use it the more I love it. Everything just Works and because of that the workflow is super liquid. After ages of using it I keep finding new things it can do and does better than any other app. Don't be fooled by the simplicity as that's just brilliant UI design and the stock Box (i.e. samples) are the stuff beat making dreams are made of And you can mix-and-match And import your own samples. This is a pure must-have..Version: 4.0

Can't go wrongFor the money you can't go wrong. My only criticism is the sequencer interface as its rather clunky. really need to be able to swipe along a drums pattern and add sixteen notes or delete sixteen notes with a swipe of the finger. But really I cannot complain at this price..Version: 2.2

Solid & GeniusI’ve professionally worked with music technology since the 90’s With music tech apps always a glitch or bug somewhere This FunkBox is as near perfect as you can get, the more you delve the greater it is. The sonic quality is excellent. Well done guys and thank you Never been happier with a music tech app.Version: 4.0.1

I love this app. Needs one more feature.Over all this is a nice drum machine app. User friendly. Nice authenticity. Stable. There's one feature that would just make it perfect. Drum pitch and tuning. Being able to Automate that would make it even better!.Version: 4.0.1

Funk Box is A great Beat Box!If you want the retro feel of those great sounding analogue beat boxes from the 1970's thru to present day Machine Drum, then this app is right for your midi set-up. Create your own beats & save them in either wav or midi file..Version: 2.2

Nice but unnecessarily limited? This is an outstanding drum machine. Very well thought out with lots of essential features to allow it to interface with other audio apps and gear. However, I don't understand the needless limitation to allow only 8 drum parts when 12 are available -- or at the very least, let us select which 8 we want to use instead of forcing to choose between RS or CL, LT and CP, etc. What if I want a pattern with High Tom and Cow Bell? Can't do it -- have to choose one or the other..Version: 3.5

Fun timesSo much fun.. Make drum beats on the fly and export them as midi if you want to put them in your beats later...Version: 2.0

AwesomeThis is simply awesome. It's got the vibe and sound of the old organ drum boxes from the 70's but also the programmability of drum machines from the 80's. Most of all though it's great fun and easy to build great sounding little grooves that you can export into other music editing software. The sounds themselves are spot on and it really is a bargain for what you get..Version: 2.2

Classic!A classic iOS drum machine. Great fun and a good app for Midi master clock..Version: 4.0

BrilliantOh my, after messing around & spending money trying to find a decent drum machine app Ive finally found one. Easy to record, all my favourite old drum machines & transfers straight into my Djay2 & Harmonicdog DAW, perfect for on-the-go creation.Version: 4.0.1

Good for professionals or just for fun.I've been using FunkBox for a couple of years now. They keep adding more functionality to it, but it's still really easy to use. It's fun to just fool around with it sometimes. Funkbox can flawlessly emulate those cheesy old drum machines you might find on an organ in someone's rec room, but you can reprogram any of the beats you to make them funkier, change the swing, mix the levels, or completely reprogram them. It also has inter-app audio compatibility, as well as Midi, so you can take advantage of it with tons of iOS audio apps or external midi devices..Version: 3.4

FunkBox is Da Funk!!!It's either Funkbox or shell out $3,800 for a used Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer. If you pair Funkbox with your iPad inside of the Alesis io Dock II, you'll have a very formidable virtual 808 clone with midi via din or usb, internally pannable and has roughly 20 other vintage drum sets to choose from as well...Awesome job done by these developers...I finally can recreate that 80's 808 funk sound with a very precise and stable gadget..I'd like to see pattern to song chaining and the option to record my beat with no pre-quantization and higher ppq resolution. You can even sync Funkbox to start/stop your other music apps and run arpegiators and baseline synths in-sync to it. 10-stars. 😜.Version: 3.6

Nice little DrumboxVery easy to use, various patterns with their corresponding drum sounds easy to recall (36 instant pattern recalls with a single push of a button). This app is very retro in design and sounds great..Version: 4.0.1

Main reason I use an iPhoneIt was the first app I purchased when I switched to Apple on the old iPhone 5 many years ago. I still use it regularly, and I still love the **** out of it. So easy to use!!! 100% would purchase again. THANK YOU ❤️.Version: 4.0.1

Simple and reliableIf you like the sounds of well known drum machines of the past(and slightly present), this is the perfect jamming app for it. Syncs to midi very well too..Version: 4.0.1

Real goodI was looking for a basic drum machine to keep time for my students and got so much more with this app. I love it. All of the boxes are great but it's a shame that you have to write over one of them to get your own samples loaded in. Maybe you could include some user preset locations for customized boxes. I love how you can lock the tempo and box, then go through many of the patterns, and when doing this it would be nice to be able to lock to mix settings for a consistent sound. Great job guys and looking forward to the next update..Version: 2.2

Solid and Fun to Use!FunkBox sounds great, is really easy to use, and comes with some really good groovy beats as starting points. Loops sound great when they are run out and imported into Logic. I would love to see a one-button way to "export each instrument as a separate wav file", but otherwise am really happy with FunkBox as a compositional tool!.Version: 1.4

A Thing Of BeautyThis just looks so beautiful :-) sounds nerdy I know But honestly it looks and sounds great For under a couple of quid you can't go wrong Modgey.Version: 2.2

Funkbox will always be a must haveThere are over 100 drum/drum machine apps in the AppStore, Funkbox is always at the top of everyone's lists bloggers/reviewers/users alike. Easy to use, sounds great, midi, Audiobus, custom kits, always updated. To the doof below that said that this app can't compete! haha go get a list of drum/machine apps that are better, lets compare notes. I could use a good laugh. Funkbox is definitely at the top with a few others but not many..Version: 3.3

So far, so goodLove it so far. Wanted to let you know that your MIDI implementation commands show accurate note numbers but are an octave too low for the first five commands. They should start at G5 and move up, and not start at G4..Version: 4.0.1

Incredible Customer Service & Great AppThe interface is beautiful, they have countless super fun drum machines with full sets of data. They're manual is extensive. They're working on compatibility, so when I ran into a bug - or what I thought was a bug - I emailed synthetic bits and received a detailed, thorough, personalized orientation email. Very impressed with this app and company. Keep it up!!.Version: 3.3

Best drum app I have used. This is by far the best drum machine app I have ever used.Version: 4.0.1

Fantastic appGreat app, the only thing is why can't you raise the tempo above 180? Would be great if you could implement..Version: 3.6

Solid app! This app has been one of the best for years. Get it-you won’t regret it. Can store tempo/mix settings with each beat, which I’ve found really useful as I’ve used it in a few solo gigs. The vintage samples included are excellent, but I’ve had fun making my own ‘boxes’. I now have a nice SR16, TR505, and brush kit. Top app..Version: 4.0.1

GreatThis is the best beat making app I've tried and ive tried quite a few. Just wish there was a synth too.Version: 2.2

Favorite iOS App of All TimeI was seriously researching hardware drum machines for purchase. Having an iPad on stage isn't my idea of cool. But -- this app sounds so great, is so easy to program and navigate, and contains such a wealth of samples, it's impossible for me to deny it's absolutely the right tool for my humble rock and roll duo. Connect a cheap Akai LPD8 with a lightning cable and you've got an amazing sounding, totally versatile drum machine for use onstage as you play your set for bartender and bouncer! Totally stable once it's up and running. Improvement suggestions: 1. Sometimes on iPad Air2 with iOS 10 I need to restart the iPad to get any sound out of Funkbox, even though other audio apps will work. Not sure why this is happening. 2. The tap tempo feature is nice, but I'd love an option to input exact numerical value for tempo with the keyboard. The tempo slider is way too fiddly -- gets you in the ballpark, but you often need to press the tiny + or - buttons ten or twenty times to get your exact BPM. Thanks for making my favorite iOS app of all time. Just a treasure!.Version: 3.6

Really goodI was trying to choose which drum machine to go for and opted for this. Very happy with it! Simple but powerful. I like its retro styling but don't look at this fun quirky style and think its a toy - it really is great sounded and versatile. Good work!.Version: 3.0

Awesome drum machine! This is a great app to add drum beats to the music you make on the iPad. I use NLog Pro for my keyboard/synth needs and this app works perfectly along side it. Thank you for making an app that works just as well as a physical drum machine but without the heavy price tag..Version: 2.2

Funkbox, I love youSounds great, takes 15 seconds to understand, the best MIDI sync on iOS. Plus, you know, sweet beats. Funkbox is not a 909 or DM1. Think of it as 1) a great sample collection of vintage beat boxes and 2) a home organ style rhythm machine that's.... Awesome! The rhythms that come out of it immediately are just great. Of course, you can edit and store your own rhythms (and samples!) as it is a full featured drum machine (plus a MIDI out track for basslines) but I don't think it's the developers intent to compete with DM1 or DrumPerfect, for instance. AB2 state saving and louder samples just pushed it over the edge. So great! Thank you for Funkbox. Buy it immediately, turn it on and play some music..Version: 3.4

Go To Drum AppI have a lot of drum apps but this is almost always the one I use. I use virtual MIDI a lot and FunkBox is great. Furthermore, its "Bonus Bass Line Sequencer" is fantastic. It seems natural to me to compose my bass and drums together. The only thing I would like is the ability to tie steps together in the baseline for longer note values. However, your bass synth can do that if you turn off retrigger when in monophonic and/or set some long sustain and release times. Some have complained about FunkBox' MIDI but that is not an issue. FunkBox just doesn't go on stand-by very gracefully. If you let your iPad fall asleep, or leave FunkBox in the background too long with no MIDI input, it needs to be kick-started. Activate it, start and stop it, and start sending it MIDI again. If the bass line app stops responding you may have to tickle its MIDI settings. A little cumbersome but no issue when you know what's happening..Version: 3.5

SoEZ to use !! Painless rendering!I use it every day. It's the Swiss Army knife of beats. Not only that, it sounds amazing. I find it has a place in so many tracks I never expected. A crucial "layer" to have for anyone recording on an iPad or PC. Rendering to wav and getting it to a universal location is the easiest I've seen. U can email yourself the wav and get it from anywhere. With all the Dropbox drive iCloud crud they make you use. This one at least puts that back in your hands. And it sounds awesome as is very easy to use. Sly stone. Phil Collins. How about the Em-u or HR16B? It's a fabulous app. The best things in life are simple and appreciated. This app is that..Version: 4.0.1

Just buy it!!!Without a doubt the best app I have. As a working producer/writer/performer I have/had tons of gear...some favorites and some that went mostly unused due to poor layout or unintuitive operation...but this app is genius. Sounds great, works perfectly, completely easy to understand and will be used to death by me...great job!.Version: 2.1

NiceBought it to have a sketch pad for beats on my iPhone, pretty cool on the iPad too. Good sounds, love that I can import my own samples too, that made it for me. What also rocks about this app is the simplicity & as others have said the over the top retro interface. If you ever used those older boxes you know how simple they are, and how non-intuitive some step sequencers can be. Definitely worth a few bucks to me...Version: 2.2

Great Look & Amazing Sound! It's really great to have a drum machine that has that vintage feel, but also accurately reproduces those classic sounds. You can even customize to sounds or even import and use your own samples. This machine is also easy to navigate and easy to program, you can get straight in and create amazing beats. The recording option is great too, and you can export audio or midi files which is a real benefit. There are also comprehensive midi options and the very handy background audio function that keeps the app running when you switch to your favorite synth app. But it's really the great sound and ease of use that keeps me coming back for more..Version: 2.2

Love itI have had many old jams with my writing partner and the Korg 55. This app does a great replication of those sounds and feels.. Love it. Thank you..Version: 3.5

ExcellentThe UI is a little basic but this is one of the best virtual beatboxes on the App Store with a great range of sounds, easy programming and simple MIDI/Audio export. Very useful as a beat foundation to drop into a sequencer..Version: 0

Excited to see update features...I have found this app to be very straightforward and stable. Works and sounds great on use on 4th Gen IPod with iOs 5.1 & iOs 6. I can Email wav & midi files to use to use with other music software on my laptop, this is helpful because I use a PC. Great app/music tool, would recommend its worth its weight to purchase from App Store, does not take too much space if that is a limitation for some users..Version: 3.0

Mad RealI have dozens of iOS drum machines. This is my favorite. I use it to make dub and slow, simmering tech House. Probably the only drum machine that can hold the titles of fun and functional simultaneously. Get some..Version: 4.0.1

One of My Favorite AppsThis is one of the first music related apps I purchased when I got my iPad and nothing has surpassed it so far. Its instant fun, and it is easy to customize, so its got enough staying power to keep being fun over the long term. I play live with it - so far in rehearsal space only - but I plan to break it out in a gig situation soon. Tap tempo would be a great addtion, and a way to name and save out customized beat sequences. But the email-your-beat function is a nice feature to easily export your beats for looping in another program.Version: 1.4

Blippy farty blissLike raiding the dusty attic of a secondhand shop. Easy to use, realistic and most of all, fun. Looking forward to more boxes..Version: 2.1
