✓ What's gone wrong?Since the upgrade three days ago, I cannot download any articles. Whenever I click on an article it goes to a white screen and says it cannot download the page, suggesting that I download it via Safari. If I click on that, I get a white screen that is completely locked up and I need to shut down my iPad and uninstall the app and try again. This is a shame, because I loved the app until this happened. Help! Well, two weeks later and STILL not working! Really messed up a good app..Version: 4.2.64
✓ A welcome relief from Apple News-Flipboard was always my go-to app for news when I had a Droid, and I don’t know why I never considered it on my iOS devices until now. Since Apple News became solely an advert for Apple News+ I have been desperate to find a replacement. I’ve tried all the others (MS, Google, etc.) but they all have annoyances I just can’t live with. I just wish I had considered Flipboard earlier. There’s a good selection of news sources and topics, and the news I get seems relevant to me and where I live. I don’t mind the adverts, developers need to make money and Flipboard gets the balance between news and ads just about right without being too intrusive. Of course I would prefer no adverts but this is the real world; better to have ads rather then have subscriptions rammed down my throat. I don’t like Cover Stories as it’s far too US-centric, and I wish there was an option to either make it more location friendly or remove it altogether. ✓ The tablet experience is subparI’ve been using Flipboard for years now as my main news reading app on my phone, and I do genuinely enjoy using it, especially since I can easily swipe back and forth between my smart magazines to find articles on topics I choose. I recently bought a tablet and downloaded the same app thinking the experience would be better, but in fact it is not, its far worse. Unless I’m missing something, the emphasis is on the tags you follow and not the smart magazines you’ve created, which are practically hidden. This is terrible, and I’m not at all happy with the experience. The app is still a good one, so I won’t rate it badly, it the difference between the tablet app and the phone app is too great, and with the phone app being far better I’ll be looking for another main news reading app for my tablet..Version: 4.2.73

✓ My Daily ReadIt’s like a good book, newspaper, magazine or self development tool. I use it as all four and it’s really helped in my career. If the adverts or cookie requests are too invasive then reader view gets around that, but often cuts out a lot of pictures in the process. ✓ Nearly 5 star - but content algorithms need workA really good, potentially 5 star app, except for the fact the algorithms seem to be hit and miss. I’ve spent well over 6 months trying to educate it through “less like this” preferences but it doesn’t seem to learn in the way I’d expect and still shows me stuff I’m not interested in. I suspect this will improve over time but at the moment, it’s a good app that could be great - if they can sort the algorithms. Also have concerns about fake news infiltrating on one or two occasions - would be interested to see how Flipboard screen these stories out and enable better reporting of fake news via the report function..Version: 4.1.7

✓ A little bit shadyFlipboard asked me to rate the app in an in-app pop up. Trying to submit 1 star was not allowed. That’s a bit shady. What I don’t like is that the app sends you to the publisher to read the article. This is bad because any ad-blocker u might have installed in Safari does not work in Flipboards “web-browser”. So to read an article you end up downloading megabytes of ads and ad-tracking scripts from every publisher. That is, unless the publisher has an agreement with Flipboard, in which case Flipboard inserts its own full page ads you cannot pinch out of. The whole Flipboard experience can therefore be very _bad_ for your data plan and for your privacy. That said, Flipboard is very useful and gives you the opportunity to browse through articles within topics of interest in a very nice way. Apples own News app is a strong contender though, but for now I do prefer Flipboard..Version: 4.2.2

✓ Finally, Flipboard is essential!Update: Having rated the op highly after the inclusion of reader view, I am now noticing more and more that I'm Bing fed new "curated by" someone or other, which invariably turns out to be a collection of click bait, generally breaking out into ad-infested waters and thereby degrading the experience again. Taking away a star. I have used Flipboard on a daily basis for several years, but found the persistent onslaught from pop-ups and other massively intrusive advertising to be very wearing. This led to me frequently having to use the share button to drop out to Safari, which (albeit only fairly recently) blocks at least some of the noise. Now, finally, Flipboard has introduced a “reader view”, which is an enormous upgrade in usability, clarity and enjoyment on thousands of pages. At last I can benefit from the vast array of news and informative content, curated to my tastes, without rage quitting after 15 minutes. Five stars is the minimum this upgrade deserves. ✓ Social network news all in one.I downloaded this application not really knowing what to expect and was blown away by it straight away. After loading the log in details for the various social networks which I belong to, I was able to see all the updates and activity in one easy-to-read, highly attractive package. It's crisp clear clean feel makes it a pleasure to use every time I open it. Before downloading this application, I was annoyed with always having to switch between applications to get updates and such. With this application, opening and closing multiple applications to get your social network news and updates is a thing of the past. I love the way you flip through your own personalized magazine as well as being able to add new content through the search feature. I would, however, like to see more localized content by way of news and such. I'm hoping, over time, new content will be added. I want to be perfectly clear here, ads in and of themselves are fine. What I take exception with are ads that hit you with disgusting images. I don’t need to see graphic images of “20 years of earwax” being removed while I’m eating breakfast. I don’t need any information on toenail fungus or any gross images of nasty foot diseases. I don’t need to see an image of five mice with their necks snapped in a trap. Why can’t we block specific ads? As I noted above, I am not opposed to ads. Sometimes useful ones even come up and I click on them. But we ought to be able to insulate ourselves for imagery that makes us want to hurl. Short of engaging parental controls and blocking these sites through Safari, we’re stuck with them randomly showing up on Flipboard. Flipboard, fix this. You deserve five stars, but until I can block disgusting images, you get one. Update! Wow! Now an ad keeps popping up for “Truthfinder” a website that helps you find out “if they’ve been cheating”. Great! So useful (a sarcasm font would be helpful here). It’s also great that it looks like an ad for porn. ✓ Totally ridden with advertisments!Update Oct. 24, 2019: Again, although the format and style of this app is great, it is so filthy ridden within advertisements that it is rendered almost unusable. You often have to wait a very long time for an article to become readable as the multitude of ads and pop-ups load. Sometimes there are so many ads loading that the article hangs and never becomes readable. This is not necessary. Other apps, such as Microsoft News seem to be able to include advertising without interupting the articles or being intrusive. Flipboard authors try to blame this on external sites that they have no control over. Baloney! Clean this up Flipboard and you could be a model for a fine app. As it is, it stinks. ———————————————— I really like the format of this app. The sources of news for special interests seem unmatched. However, I am totally fed up with the constant bombardment of ads popping up all over the place often popping up over an article that I am trying to read. The constant bloody adverts for crap that doesn't even interest me! Why can't you just include a Zite style interface as an alternative mode? Apart from regular magazine that I subscribe to I also have over 30 personal magazines that I use to store, and make available, articles from the internet. By channeling similar types of content pieces and co-ordinating them with regular items from appropriate English language sources, Washington Post, Guardian and others I can keep abreast of news wishing the UK and a breadth of foreign news. In addition using the technical magazines I can keep up with scientific and technological innovations. In function and features it is optimize for smart phone, news consumption and by flipping up and down and sideways you’re able to navigate quite simply to exactly where you want to go and then the app allows you to dig into what you want to see. If you want more detail on any subject, there’s almost always articles nearby that you can consume, and all of the articles have been curated carefully so that everything seems to hang together quite well. Even if you watch the full ad you still have to tap the x at the top left and with the iPhone plus it’s kinda annoying. I find Flipboard indispensable to using my iPad. Flipboard’s staff skillfully curates a very broad range of news about current events and also features a huge variety of special interest magazines and articles, and is markedly superior to all other news magazine apps I’ve seen. I am often surprised by how quickly Flipboard posts news about current events, usually incredibly rapidly after the reported events have occurred or first appeared in source media. ✓ The idea is great the trolls less soThe idea of being able to collate magazines and topics you like is great. I’ve used Flipboard for a few years and it keeps me in touch with a lot of worldwide news. At one time it was interesting to read comments made by people as it gave you a sense of public opinion. However trolls and bots fill up the threads and Flipboard don’t seem to be able to do anything about it so you just get thread after thread filled with bile. It genuinely seems to learn what kind of articles you want to see (apart from that one time it seemed obsessed with showing me Bollywood news) and the curation is well over 75% stuff I want to see. So the but... the interface between the app and the websites it loads seems to be getting jankier by the day, with pages not loading properly, continuously reloading, freezing or mid-read just crashing to a blank page that won’t reload on exit/re-entry. Far too often I’m having to try and open an article in Safari to finish it. Please sort it out because I’m in danger of quitting the app for good. ✓ A great app but.....This app brings together web and news articles for your own defined interests. I use it frequently and it is generally good, but My disappointments are: it draws mostly on US based websites unless specific information from other countries can be defined in preferences, the search algorithm picks up on something you’ve read and keeps delivering similar articles even if it were a one off read, it isn’t able to differentiate websites requiring registration for access, and the loss of the filtering options available on previous versions. ✓ Where did my zite go....It must have been over a year ago I wrote this but never sent. I would rather pay an annual fee ($10-20) and not have to deal with the invasive advertising. I like flipboard. .. "But I loved zite". Flipboard, It does a decent job of bringing many stories into a semi-cohesive binder. Having said that.... It does not flow.... Almost every step of the way through my daily reading I have to wrestle with pages turning when I don't want them to, leading to places I do not want to go, just frustrating enough to add sour to the experience. I see the same articles time after time being put as if they are new. No settings for when to retire stories after they have been read and in que for days. There seems no guidelines for how long a story can be front pages news after it has long been tired. While writing this the keyboard starts to cover what I'm writing that I have to hit return 8 or 9 times just to have a big enough gap to see what I'm writing. Please tighten up the quality of the reading details and software. I understand the need for advertising but in some instances it is a complete “cluster truck” of false leads to your article trying so hard to take you against your will to a false lead which is some disgusting trap article ad... Flipboard could be a good mechanism for amalgamating and having content paid for on the web, and an advertisement-free option should be available for this. As a disclaimer, I am not a journalist. ✓ Great AppGreat app. I have one complaint tho. Clicking on a post notification should send you directly to that post. It's annoying to have to scroll through sometime hundreds of posts to get to the one in the notification. That's especially annoying when someone is responding to your post. It should go directly to the post, not just to the article. Update: Updated Flipboard on 9/20. It now crashes when I'm adding comments. Flipboard has never crashed before this update, now it crashes every time I write a comment on my iPad. So far the iPhone version is fine. I'm using This year's iPad Pro 12.9 inch 512 GB, cellular. Update 2: I received an email from Flipboard maybe because they removed of my comments. The email was awkwardly worded, but I’m guessing that was the case because it linked me to their policy on acceptable comments. I have no problem with that. I don’t know was it something that Flipboard randomly found and removed or was I reported by another user? ✓ FLIPBOARD was great but is now going woke.I have enjoyed and used flip board for news and science on my Ipad since I purchased the first IPAD Pro. Readers view allows serious reading without too many distracting popups. Conservative view gives a pretty good mix of real news without too much propaganda. However the management this last year has turned in your face woke. First they began to feed biased articles on climate change, pro abortion and radical sex politics. I reacted with a lot of thumbs down which worked in the past but now was ignored. Then I tried to remove the offending topics and found that they were now mandatory and could not be removed. ✓ Lost its simplicity with adverts in articlesI must admit my review below prompted a fast response and I’m going to give the suggestions a try. Here’s hoping that the app remains because it’s been on my iPhones for many many years. *i shall be reporting adverts from now on. Once upon a time in an innocent world where adverts were placed at the top or bottom of an article Flipboard worked beautifully. Now unfortunately many years when you click to visit the site , the site will often have a pop up advert and with one touch your off flipboard , safari has opened and your faces with the advert web page. Close safari and back to the article and scroll down to find another small box or advert stopping you from reading. After this has happened on a few articles you get fed up and decide you can’t be bothered reading anymore. It’s such a shame that flipboard cannot reformat the articles simply or arrange to have the pop up adverts stopped or removed . I wouldn’t pay for an advert free site , but quite frankly the sites themselves are loosing viewers too. ✓ Liberal viewsToo much liberal point of view. Not enough of fair reporting on the conservative view. There are both sides of the spectrum that need to be fairly presented. I read the LA Times daily and I believe the Times has their political agenda. They don’t give much print on a conservative approach . Just look at their op-Ed journalism. ✓ Gone WrongFor the first couple of weeks this was my favorite app. However, something has now gone wrong. When I open an article, the screen keeps reloading the page over and over. It is if it is reaching out to get advertising content and as each snippet of content arrives the screen goes black and then reloads. Sometimes it finally settles down, sometimes the app just shuts down and closes, and as of today a error dialog box pops up saying there was an error loading the page and asking if I want to continue in Safari instead. They're always adding new sources so it's always interesting. The presentation and view on the iPad is absolutely beautiful, but that's not to say its not great on my iPhone as well! ✓ Flipboard ObservationsI was recommended to try Fb by my granddaughter over two years ago. I have found it to be one of the best news delivery systems without being “in your face” like other media deliveries. ✓ New banner ads do not go awayI used to love this app until this part weekend when an update dropped and now I get a flashing banner advertisement in all my articles even in reader view. I read Flipboard a lot at night but the new banner ad flashing at bottom on every article even in reader view has me looking for other reader apps. I would even pay for Flipboard if I could make it go away but there is no option. ***update*** Their tech support reached out to me and gave me some tips on how to make things better. One of things was deleting the cache. That fixed my spam banner ads I was getting. I have been using this App since 2010. When you click on an article to read I always click on Reader View.
