✓ AmazingI was going to skip this because of the price and no try it offer. Glad I didn’t. It doesn’t project, you are looking at the image on your phone and can see the canvas underneath so enlarging isn’t an issue and neither is focus. It has a fade adjustment, tilt, you can change the effects of the picture you are using, it can be set to automatically fade in intervals so you can see the canvas taking shape or you can use the slide and just move the picture out of the way as you go. It’s super easy to doodle your own sketch, save to your photos and then open it in this for a more complex painting. I’ve had it for 5 minutes and I can see a ton of creative ways to use this. I’m glad I took a chance. I’m using iPhone 8..Version: 10.1

The help and support Pete offers are excellent and the advice from others is available on the FB page as well. ✓ Works well!I first tried this app with a vase as per the video. Originally, I found it difficult for me to use with my left hand, as the camera on the iPad is on the right. Thus, I would occasionally knock the vase slightly out of alignment. After I wrote the review, I played around some more and found that the app rotates nicely, about the same time the developer pointed this out. Sorry! Important tips: fasten down the paper or use a heavy sketch book. Also, if possible, fasten down the iPad! This is easier said than done. Other than sketching with pencil, you can use it to paint with watercolours directly from the photo, or you can create a rough sketch on a canvas for acrylic painting. Peter , the developer will personally answer any questions you have . There are copy cat apps appearing trying to ride on his success . ✓ Excellent artist’s toolBefore using Camera Lucida I was either forced to use a grid or my light box to transfer images to my drawing paper. Now in 30 minutes or less I can creat an extremely accurate line drawing. This has really improved my art and I’ve even been able to increase my prices and my clientele. ✓ Very clever 10 *Ok it is pretty straight forward to initially get going with this app and get some basic results. Rather than rush into things have a look at the tutorials and fully understand how much you can do with this and more importantly how to achieve success. The app is a joy to use made all the better by learning how to use it from the tutorials it is surprisingly easy and gives surprisingly amazing results. ✓ Excellent App and ServiceWhile I am extremely happy with the app, which does all that it is claimed to do, it is the support that is superlative. I had an issue linking my phone and ipad. Peter was more than helpful. There was NO issue with the app, the problem was a new setting in IOS14/15, which in an abundance of caution I checked off. A simple click of the button and all is well. I have both a new iPhone with the latest iOS and an old iPad with an obsolete iOS. This app worked perfectly on both. Look, I CAN and DO draw and paint using perspective and all the tools of an artist. But I live an extremely busy life and it’s hard to get to all that. ✓ Amazing AppHave only been using this app for a few days but already I’m so glad I found it! I’m a scratch artist and this is going to be a most welcome tool. Scratch board is Masonite covered in white clay then coated in black ink leaving a matt finish, so transferring a drawing onto this surface can be quite messy. I’ve coated my sketch on the back of the paper with white charcoal which leaves specks on the black surface. I’ve also used white Saral transfer paper which leaves marks where you’ve rested your hand. With this app I can draw the image directly onto the board, saving so much time and mess. ✓ The most incredible app everI am an architectural technician and have been prioritising my 2d cad drawing, my freehand drawing was relatively weak. Within 30 minutes of using this app (to do so you will need to find an appropriate stand, I have recycled a desk tidy) I found myself with a fairly strong, accurate perspective drawing, (and that was on a train with minimal light. With practice, time, light and space the results I am certain will be brilliant. I fully understand David Hockney's book on the great masters now. ✓ Great ToolI decided to learn watercolor painting but have no skills for drawing. Choosing my own photos to work from I was spending way to much time trying to make an accurate light sketch. The sketch is minimal but so important to perspective in the composition. I was reading about the camera Lucida when I found this app for my iPad. I figured out a way to use it and am so disappointed I had only grabbed scratch paper. My line drawing took very little time and the very quick painting atop that drawing was terrific! This takes so much pressure off and allows me the pleasure of experimenting with the paint and it’s effects without the very hard and tedious task of making an accurate sketch. Thanks for coming up with this app! It will take a little practice getting used to how to set up for accurate size overlay. I do need a stand but so far I have managed. Patty Ps. ✓ Top app in the game, but interface needs helpIt’s a great app with powerful features with great developer support. Only a few competing apps can get near it. One problem that persists with this app and the DaVinchi App is the interface lacking consistency and flow, a little better button and features placement and better button icons. I’ve been using these 2 apps for years but the buttons are just in need of a little better grouping placement. It’s easy to forget what button did what then you have multiple down arrows (easy to mix up) and the photo filters icon for example is a treasure chest on another page, instead of something indicating photo filters in a proper group layer. If this app would have a better organized GUI it’d be a 5 star app. But no one says anything about it because the app is indeed awesome and the dev is super nice, the Facebook page is super supportive, and even I feel like a jerk for giving a negative feedback on something because of the 100% feelgood atmosphere. But I really think the dev needs some more specific GUI feedback to make this app really polished and shine. For now I’ll just mention it..Version: 15.3
✓ Very good program with good featuresI have had the app for many years now. The developer does listen to us and has made amazing improvements. There are many Lucida type apps and after trying several, this is the one I come back to. My favorite improvement is the ability to use a mirror on the iPad front camera in order to sit to draw and not have to be above the pad and look down to draw. We can also shut it down and next day the app can find the exact angle and position automatically so we can continue to draw. There is the option to connect two devices together to make larger drawings and posters. That feature is a bit difficult to set up but truly just a setback of devices that aren’t quite powerful enough yet. I recommend this app..Version: 14.0

✓ Really great app for anyone who wants to draw!!I love being able to draw pictures from my photos. Really let's you overcome fears if you are, like me, drawing challenged... Have made many lovely pen and ink drawings of some of my favorite photos of my daughter that I put in my journal. It is fun, plus they won't fade over time like photos might (given an archival ink)... I have always wanted to make pen and ink drawings that look good and this has been an absolutely fabulous tool. I just got an Osmo stand and front camera mirror and am looking forward to using it as it seems like it will be more convenient than the standard setup of putting the iPad on a stack of books. I set it up with the Osmo but have yet to actually draw with the Osmo in use. That said, it certainly seems like it will be more convenient to have the iPad and drawing both easily visible while you are drawing, instead of basically 100% looking "through" the iPad. ✓ PerfectAs a hobbyist portrait oil painter, working from photographs, I have always used the 'grid system' to transfer a basic sketch to canvas. I've been considering a opaque projector and also thought about tracing from a computer screen to improve my accuracy. This app has negated my need for any of the above.... it's just perfect for my needs and, having constructed a small stand to hold the iPad steady, it has been instrumental in improving my likeness accuracy and saved so much time. The posterize and options also help greatly in defining the darks, lights and mid- tones. Some may feel it's cheating ... but then you may also consider tracing from a projected image or even the grid system to be less than purist - not me, any method of recreating a close likeness for portrait painting is fair game in my opinion. ✓ Very Useful ToolI found several other apps that work like this, but this is the best. For comfort I use it with an iPad angled at 45 deg, as with my drawing surface. Test that the two are aligned correctly, otherwise the drawing will be distorted. Put a square shape on to drawing surface and check it aligns with the grid on the app. Once you develop good eye-to-hand co-ordination, it feels quite natural. It is brilliant for transposing shapes accurately. On first try- In order to transfer an image to a “very small - 9x12” canvas I had to place the iPad so far away I couldn’t reach the canvas to draw and see the iPad at same time. The developer is sending me some instructions to help solve. In concept -and the features- it is a great idea- for only $6.99 its a new tool in my art bin. There are some “large scale demo videos” - but I’m not there yet. ✓ A must have for any artistThis amazing App allows a good artist to become a great artist, and someone who is not an artist to produce passably good renderings of images or even portraits. The concept is not new, camera lucidas have been used, usually secretly, by artists for hundreds of years. This App takes the best elements of that ancient concept and turbo-charges it. If you can trace, you can draw, it's that simple. This is sure to be a "must have" in any serious artist's atelier, and getting the latest iPad (as I did) just to run this one App is not overkill, it's that good and well worth it. Using Apple's adapter/charger and a VGA cable attached to another monitor allows paintings of virtually any size to be made, subject to the iPad camera's resolution, which is likely adequate for anything less than monumental murals. I set mine up using a French easel in my studio and used my large studio easel to support a small 15" monitor. It works brilliantly, and with the remote keyboard support, makes doing details a snap. Version 8 has new many features, including the aforementioned Bluetooth support for keyboards and a very neat "Tim's Vermeer" type mirror edge control which allows very easy comparisons; invaluable for matching colours or tonality. He shared my concern for privacy and explained the process to me in a non-technical way while linking to the technical documents.
