✓ Amazing appMy 11 year old downloaded this on her new iPad. I liked it so much that I bought myself an iPad! The stories are filed in categories, such as Best Of (well known), Travel, Ghost Stories, War, Western, Young Readers, English 101, etc. All the classic books seem to be available. Alternatively you can search for a particular book. Once you've picked your book, it downloads in seconds, and adds to your library shelves. You can read in either portrait or landscape, and add a bookmark when you put it down..Version: 3.1.1

✓ Good app, great booksThis is a decent app, with a great selection of free books. In simple terms I'd say finding a book is easier with this app than iBooks, but the reader part of the app is quite basic. It could use some text resizing options, font choice and ink/paper colour options, and easy access to the brightness control. And maybe some control over the page animations wouldn't hurt later on. That said, I'm a little torn over whether or not it would just be better/simpler if these books were just available via the iBook store....Version: 0

✓ It’s good but..I love this app because I don’t have to carry a book around with me to read, but there is a problem. I like to highlight the words I don’t know, but when after around 3 words, it glitches out and starts highlighting the previous word that I highlighted, instead of the one that I was trying to highlight. I think the problem is to do with how close the words are, because if I change the font, I can continue highlighting a few more words before it happens again..Version: 5.2.4

✓ Good resourceI’ve had this app for a very long time. It is a good resource for classic old, older, and oldest books that are out of copyright. It’s great to have when something is referenced that you don’t know enough about. These are important works because everything we read has these as their foundation. Many are harder to read because they are on a higher, more intellectual level, as were most writings of the past. Also, the grammar, the way of writing and speaking, has changed dramatically in just the last 100 years. That adds another level of difficulty. One being for the ease of using the Internet and the other for the use of this app. I find that the selection of books is extensive and the variety most pleasing. I particularly like the shorter books that I can read in the planes and generally finish in one trip. With the different time zones when I want to relax before going to sleep I can always look into my book downloads and find something to read. ✓ Great, but still can’t delete books or view a full pageLove this app and I’ve found many books that I’ve enjoyed. There were also some that sounded promising but didn’t capture my interest after a few pages or chapters. However, there are two problems that have been reported but never corrected : 1. You can’t delete any books you’ve downloaded. My library is become cluttered and I’m using storage space needlessly. 2. Often the lower part of a page is not displayed. I’ve found a workaround by changing the size of the font from the default 100% to something higher or lower. It is annoying when you’re really focused on whatever you’re reading. Otherwise how can you complain about so many free books!.Version: 6.1.1

✓ Doorway to excitementThis is a great app especially considering the price. theres a good range of stuff available to read, including some that surprised me - I guess I hadn't realised that novels such as Room With a View and Ulysses could be free. I also really like the covers which the app has for each book -quite beautifully designed and individual. The only downside I would lay is on poetry, where the lines are not organised and consequently cannot be read as poetry. But Im sure these issues will be addressed soon. Admittedly, there are some more obscure words that the dictionary doesn't contain, but that doesn't spoil the enjoyment too much. So there probably are the some 23,000 books that the write up claims to be available from the app and yes, they would be public domain books over 75 years old. The books are clearly readable. The interface is easy. That said... This app would benefit from being able to bookmark (beyond keeping your place in the book) or highlight passages, and being able to copy passages from the books. Dream feature... Read the book out loud the way Kindle can do it, so I can make progress on the book while doing other things. Expect to find most 19th and 20th century classics as well as a smattering of literature from antiquity. Also, the titles are categorized into a combination of author and subject simultaneously from the same top-level menu, which is a bit annoying. ✓ ExcellentBeing a bookworm, this app is thoroughly enjoyable to use. I find no real fault with the advertisements - after all the app is free to use. The layout for the books is generally excellent, its main downfall being the layout for poetry. Doesn't seem to care about whether a sentence might be on an entirely different line from another sentence or not. Seems to just allow the sentences to run on next to each other. ✓ Every iPad should have oneAbsolutely brilliant. There is a free version (with ads) and one that costs £2.99 or something, without: if ads bother you, buy the upgrade. I can't understand why people are happy to pay upwards of £400 for an iPad but will then whine when offered thousands of classic books, for FREE, via an app that costs less than a Strawbucks grandé mochalattechino. It works, it's a lot more convenient than accessing the books via Project Gutenberg or similar on a browser, and you can download a load of them for reading when you don't have a data signal. Have only had it a couple of weeks and I've already read three or four books I probably wouldn't have read otherwise. If you have an iPad, and you can read, you should treat yourself..Version: 3.1.1

✓ MrManThis is, overall, an excellent application. Good selection of books and simple interface. If I have one negative it would be the audiobooks add on that I splashed out on. Reading aloud is a skill, and whilst it would be naive to have expected the audiobooks to have been read by actors or experienced readers I would have expected that submitted content would, at the least, have been vetted for quality. The few books I have tried to listen to have, invariably, been so poorly read by expressionless readers with little thought to punctuation as to make them unintelligible. A real shame..Version: 3.2.1

"Free Books - 23,469 classics to go." It's so long and clumsy, it sounds down market, which the app certainly is not. I also don't like seeing the word Free on my iPad. ✓ Tom jonesA great old comedy I am still reading it for the second time and will probably read it again. The old fashioned English is a little hard to get used to but persist and you will be reading a very entertaining book. The characters are well drawn though the adventures are a bit far fetched. There are a lot of quotes in Latin but as they are mostly explained by the author reading is not too much interrupted by them..Version: 3.1.1

✓ AppreciationA five star award for a service that enables me to catch up on the books I just swept through in my early days however inmy late retirement I can read and understand more deeply the printed word. It also is a good retreat with the coming dark afternoons and evenings from tv etc....add..still of the opinion as first stated! However one small annoyance, that is some of the accents are a little jarring, and as such they interrupt the flow of concentration making it a little difficult to get back into the story!!.....as time progresses the little niggles disappear and I relax and enjoy the printed word, albeit via the iPad...it's great!.Version: 3.2

✓ Good AppThere are a few minor things I don't like that bring this down to 4 stars but don't let it put you off because all in all it's a good app, there are plenty of books to choose from, you have to download them to your library though, but once theyre there you can bookmark pages, and there's also some nice social networking features if you like to share what you're reading to Facebook or twitter etc.. You can also read peoples reviews of each book and also write your own review of it. Also you can make some changes to the brightness, page colour, layout and font size as you read which is useful. Also there's a slider along the bottom that can quickly take you to another page in the book so you don't have to flick though to find it Oh and also if you have Dropbox you can import books from there...I don't so I've never tried it but I guess this feature would be useful to some people :).Version: 3.1.1

✓ My booksI really do enjoy “my books”. However, with the last two updates and using my iPad 2, it’s almost impossible to delete books that I have read or decided not to read.
