Jump Desktop (RDP, VNC, Fluid) for Negative User Reviews

Jump DesktopI have been using jump desktop for many years now very successfully. There seems to be a problem with the latest release and I am getting a connection closed error in many situations. Particularly on iPad to Mac and Mac to Windows Server. It would be very helpful if this problem could be fixed so that I may have many more years of successful use. At the moment it is not very useful I am afraid..Version: 9.4.19

App is good when it worksBut the support i found is not good. I’ve asked a few questions to which none have received a satisfactory answer. For starters i log into to my mac and it keeps sending me back to the sign in screen. Not a single answer to address.Version: 9.6.8

IOS 16 Horrible integrations with the Magic KeyboardEver since iOS 16 this app hovers a bunch of alternate character options if the key on the keyboard is held which occurs often if you do any sort of games using this, also the three dots at the top of the screen on top of apples three dots is kind of annoying this should fade off the screen after a few minutes. This app is so close to being perfect, but the latest iOS Update kind of breaks a few things with this app. Please consider this when developing / considering. Thanks so much for a great app!.Version: 9.7.8

Choice: High FPS or High Refresh RateLove the design / UI but its a shame ‘fluid’ mode is such low resolution. Changing over to VNC is much clearer however the low refresh rate just kills the experience. I wish there was an option out there for high res and at least 30fps..Version: 9.5.11

Misleading claims, Basically useless for art use.I bought this because it was supposed to work well, have pressure sensitivity support, and be subscription-free. It has absolutely failed the first two, and from statements made in the forums will fail on point three if you want pressure sensitivity. -the claimed ability to easily move files from iPad to desktop seems to be a complete fabrication. Drag and drop didn’t work, nor did copy and pasting. - the “full” support for the Apple Pencil claimed does not include pressure sensitivity or tilt sensitivity. More below. -support is a joke. Trying to get useful information out of the website, help files, or by reaching out to staff is nearly impossible. The few nuggets of useful information are scattered in tiny bits and random places, if even accurate. The troubleshooting guides are hilariously brief and not particularly helpful. Expect customer and tech support to ghost you if they even bother to reply in the first place. Both through their support forum, and via email. The support forum is full of questions no one even bothered replying to. I found more questions without replies than with. -and the slam dunk, that ensured this was a waste of money for art use: the iPad pencil sensitivity is not actually supported, despite claims that it is fully supported. According to comments by jump staff on the forums, It’s currently in beta, for Mac only, and once out of beta will require subscription to the *enterprise* plan. The highest business subscription plan they have. Because every artist has hundreds of dollars to burn every year-after all, we’re notoriously wealthy people, with massive support teams to organize (sarcasm, in case that’s unclear). I can’t even think how pressure sensitivity could benefit *most* businesses to the point of it being a selling feature. Slightly more natural writing feel? It’s still on the iPad surface so people will write like trash until they get used to it, regardless. In addition, Jump has some really weird UI choices and bugs that significantly increase friction. -for some absurd reason they set up the scrolling/swiping backwards, so if you’re switching between the rest of the iPad and jump so does the direction you have to scroll, it is maddening. -The swipe feature doesn’t even work consistently- for example the *windows program bar* will not swipe, so you have to use the search option, which is normally fine, but awkward and slow, and useless if you don’t remember the name of the program you’re looking for. -Long clicking to right click will *also* left click when you lift, makes using tabs in a browser annoying at best, and constantly loosing your spot/wiping out your wring at worst. And you won’t want to switch back to the main iPad to do away with the issue because of the direction change. (Plus, I’m sure that’ll be a hassle elsewhere too) -speaking of the gesture/click profile: why not just let people customize what gestures link up to which actions? Instead there are a ridiculous number of profiles that are all just slightly different. (And none use the two/three finger tap for undo/redo that’s so common :( Custom mapping is definitely not a novel concept-Wacom has been doing that for decades, keyboards for at least half that time (I never really paid much attention to that before then), and it’s pretty common in iOS programs that aren’t solo person programs, and even a few of those even have it! Without it jump has resorted to making a long list of profiles for gestures & pencil, and it’s just unnecessary and clunky. -if you are in split screen mode on the iPad and the program on the Pc is in full screen mode (or just at the top of your screen) the top menu bar becomes unclickable (the one that has file, edit, etc) The bottom of the side panels were also cut off when attempting to use photoshop and illustrator..Version: 9.6.8

Beware double chargingPaid for the Ipad app then realised you have to pay again (higher price) to download the desktop version which seems a bit underhand. Clearly the Ipad version on its own is useless. This should be made clear at the outset..Version: 9.6.8

Doesn’t seem to work with iPadOS 17After updating to iPadOS 17 Jump no longer shows up any RDP servers, just a black screen..Version: 9.7.8

Better alternativesVery poor quality product compared to other options such as Splashtop. Also very poor customer service when the problem becomes too difficult to resolve they just start ignoring you.Version: 9.8.0

Makes RDP impossibleRDP simply doesn’t work with Jump. With Microsoft’s own app it works fine, but Jump doesn’t play ball. A waste of money and time..Version: 9.6.8

We need customisable keyboard macrosBetter than MS RDP but still not perfect for the ipad magic keyboard I bought this hoping this can make the windows RDP experience perfect but I find the some of the macro scheme not very helpful and getting in the way of original windows shortcuts. Customisable macros would solve this once for all. Would also be useful if the globe key can be utilised as a function key..Version: 9.7.8

Mouse pointer lockingI can’t get mouse pointer locking to work on iOS 15 since there is no option and for this reason I’m finding many games unplayable.Version: 9.6.8

Braille DisplaysHello, I was wondering if you guys could take a look at the commands in voiceover where braille displays are concerned and try to support those. Also if focus is in the compose field could we please get the app to stay there after pressing enter? When using a usb keyboard it works fine but control tab don't work with my keyboard. So I tried using my braille display to type in a program I use all of the time remotely and I have to move the cursor everytime I hit enter then hit enter again..Version: 9.7.8

“Computer is offline” error even though it isn’tI installed the app, worked fine that same day. 2 days go by that I don’t use it, when trying to connect to pc from my iPad, won’t connect saying computer is offline. My computer is set to not sleep, definitely isn’t offline and still I get this issue. I completely uninstalled the app and reinstalled it on my pc this Friday, worked again that same day, then as the weekend passed and tried to connect this morning, same issue! This app only works the day it’s installed and then won’t connect to my pc. I’ve checked to be sure I have all the latest versions running both on the iPad and pc, everything looks good. Need a fix for this ASAP. App might only be 20$, but not worth it so far..Version: 8.3.14

Various issuesIT IS SO FRUSTRATING only being able to flip the switch for the “left option/alt” button on the physical keyboard. I use the left alt to alt+tab, I use it to select multiple lines in SQL but flipping it is the only way to get “international” keyboard symbols such as # and €. I need this to be changed to the RIGHT alt/option button which is rarely used. The UI is a bit frustrating. For example changing resolutions that don’t appear to be supported but they still appear in the slider bar. Things like the switch to turn left+alt to operate for sending symbols such as # and € is a bit hidden. It’s frustrating finding some options here, and other options there. Just feels disjointed. Depending on what I am doing, I’ll swap between jump, teamviewer and MS Remote Desktop to my machines as each have their issues, problem is the other two are free to use, this is paid for (and very expensive on MacOS!) For some reason it appears impossible to get sounds from my remote MacBook Pro to play through the fluid protocol to my iPad Pro. Seems to be yet another bug. The support website is terrible, forcing users to have to enable cookies to register accounts so you can raise issues and suggestions. This should just be built into the app!.Version: 9.5.9

Resolution is blurry on iPad Pro 12.9I have an iPad Pro 2018 12.9. I remote control a 15-inch Late-2013 MacBook Pro Retina. On this Mac, I have two Dell 1080P monitors connected and the native MacBook Pro display. I can’t figure out how to have a clear display when remote controlling the MacBook Pro. Everything is blurry and barely viewable. Scaling is not properly done at default settings and I can’t figure out a good configuration to have a sharp, clear image of the remote computer. The computer is even not accessible after reboot even if configured properly.I opened a ticket and I’m waiting for support, but as of now, I’m really frustrated about this app..Version: 9.3.1

Devs clearly don’t test own app. There is a bug when using fluid on iPad Pro 11 at native resolution where moving the cursor halfway down the screen causes the entire screen to jitter resulting in an completely unusable, headache inducing nightmare, I know a review is not a bug report form but honestly there is just no way that they actually test the app because this bug has been there for almost a year..Version: 9.4.16

Having an mouse issues in gamesI’m aware that this wont exactly be optimal for gaming and it’s not the main reason that I got it, but I do like to play the odd game and have hit a strange issue, when I load a game up the DPI seems to go through the roof, meaning that the smallest of mouse movements will send the screen into a blur of ridiculously fast 360s and only look at the feet of the character. This only seems to happen in games however, as the movement speed on the desktop and other applications is just fine. Is there anyway to fix this? It would be greatly appreciated..Version: 9.5.8

ExcellentI like it. Very easy to use. Correct that. Since the latest update, I have lost all my remote desktops. I cannot use this new version at all. Not Happy 😫😫.Version: 7.4.2

Can’t even get it startedI wanted to use it to access my father's computer who needed onscreen help. But I couldn't even start it up because from the moment I bought it I had to log in with the password of the remote computer. The problem is that my dad doesn't like locking his computer with a password under any circumstances. This app doesn't seem to assume that there are computers in the world without a login password. If I press Enter on the app's login screen, as he does on his computer, then it endlessly asks for a password and never let me in. This needs to be updated immediately!!.Version: 9.6.8

Two things I don’t likeDownloaded this yesterday and would have given it five stars right off the bat except for two issues the first I can live with the second sort of makes the product useless. 1) It changed the size of my screen display on my computer monitor. I guess is so that this would fit the format of my iPad Pro. I can live with this. 2) today i tried to log in and since my computer was in sleep mode it could not access it. So if I want to save energy and not run my computer all the time and have it set for sleep mode this is not going to work. So is the work around to leave you computer running 24/7?.Version: 9.4.26

I'd love to give this app a glowing review...The app works. It does what it says it will. It does not however connect to any Bluetooth mouse other than the ******Mouse GT. Check the other reviews. Looks like people are being paid to give great reviews and encourage people to buy a $300 mouse in addition to the $20 app. If you want a working remote desktop have at 'er. If you want something that offers function to non-elite mouse owners shop around..Version: 7.1.2

Please please please add sound! This is one of the coolest apps I’ve seen in a looooong time! However the fact that I can’t stream any sound from my Mac makes it very limited. With the mouse support coming in iOS 13 and with sound added, this is is definitely the best setup where I can just use my iPhone or iPad as a remote computer. The latency was very good! I was shocked at how well it worked with minimal lag. I could honestly barely see any lag between the real computer when I moved my mouse and when the app screen mouse moved. The only negative is the lack of sound that it doesn’t support yet. Please add this and you have yourself a winner! Also, I am not sure if there is a way to lock my computer when I am out and about so I can log into the app but not have my activity being viewed on my computer screen when I am gone. I didn’t know if this is possible..Version: 8.3.14

Over the top data usageThis app just eats mobile data in the background and there is no option to disable background app refresh. So, when I’m on the road I have to constantly disable/enable mobile data when I need to access a computer remotely. The app also has the habit to autonomously reconnect to machines I disconnected from. If I’m not on the ball, JumpDesktop can easily eat a GB or two of mobile data in just a couple of hours whilst running on the background. It would be a great app if it wasn’t for these highly significant and very annoying issues..Version: 9.7.8

Total CrapThis is nothing comparing with other similar software ! Waste of money . Very low FPS and big lag. The so called "fluid" is a bit faster, but I cannot see the main PC mouse pointer . why ? Wow , no sound thru the mobile device ? Are you making a joke at $20 or a scam ? I don't mention other similar better software because I don't make free advertisement or to look like I work for other but this a total waste of money.Version: 7.1.2

Mouse for this app on ios is too small for my usersThe hardware needed to use this app is too small. Waste of money as is! Open it up to work for all mouse options on the market or supply a normal sized mouse..Version: 8.3.14

RDP Audio Performance Very LaggyI have a Raspberry Pi 4 connected to my iPad Pro via the USB-C / Ethernet. I have been using the Jump app to remotely access the Pi via the dedicated ethernet link. The Pi is running xrdp / xorgxrdp server. Remote Desktop graphics works fine once I worked out how to get rid of the annoying black square by the cursor, but RDP audio performance is very poor. It can take over 10 seconds before the audio is played after the button is pressed, and then it runs very slowly and is stretched out. Microsoft’s free of charge RDP Desktop iOS app plays the same audio in real time and at the correct speed..Version: 9.6.8

Great app - except no file transferI’ve been using this app for a couple years now to control my Windows machines from iOS and other Windows machines. Works great for remote control - except the clipboard is very limited. You can copy/paste text between host and remote. But that’s all. No copy/paste of images. And (very frustrating) NO COPY/PASTE OF FILES!!! In fact, there really is no way to do any sort of a file transfer between host and remote machines. Your only options are the same games you’ve always had to play when transferring files between any two machines (e.g. “email to yourself”, “install an FTP server”, “use a thumb drive”, etc, etc) This app brings NOTHING to the table to aid in file transfers. So to sum up - great for remote control. But you’re on your own if you have an image or other file you need to transfer between machines. Too bad. I would have given it 5 stars if it allowed file transfers..Version: 9.6.8

Won’t work, full stopI have been attempting to log onto this on my windows device for hours and whilst my iPad app was a breeze, the windows app is completely none functional, just download team viewer.Version: 9.4.16

Only works on iOS, purchase doesn’t extend to MacOSDisappointed to learn this, I can’t justify purchasing a second time for the occasional mac use. Please consider unifying your apps within the store.Version: 9.6.8

Fantastic app, but never updatedThis app is great but why is it never updated? Is it literally so perfect that it never requires any modification of any kind? If you pay for software, its generally great that it works well over an extended period of time. But you also are paying for development support too; app improvements, new features and particularly app optimisations. I’m glad I bought it but at the same time feel let down by the developers..Version: 9.7.8

Promised features nonexistent & locks features behind subscriptionI tried this app due to it being recommended online. They also say that you can connect with full retina resolution. Not the case. You can only utilize retina from iPad>Mac by using a VNC connection, which performs horribly, and you can do this for free anyway without Jump. Fluid connections do not support Retina. They hide this well on their website, but promised years ago that they were working on it. What they have actually accomplished is locking more features (like manual Fluid connections) behind a subscription! Yay! More subscriptions for an app you’ve already paid for in the first place! The reason I bought Jump to begin with was that they didn’t have a subscription model, but it seems every developer nowadays wants a piece of the pie. BTW, Anydesk (free) does retina resolutions for Mac currently. Microsoft’s free Remote Desktop accomplishes this for Windows. I asked Jump about getting retina resolutions on Fluid, and they did not respond. And now they want more money for manual cloudless Fluid connections. Nah, man..Version: 9.6.8

Not at all intuitive - waste of 70 dollarsBought both the iOS and Mac OS versions - the app says that my computer should show up once I download the connect app on my computer and grant permissions for screen recording and accessibility - I did all of this - I also made sure to sign in with mu desktop - and my computer is still not showing up in my jump iphone app..Version: 9.5.11

DisappointingSomething I regret buying. I t did not live up to the expectations generated from its write up..Version: 4.0.6

Nothing happens when i press sign inI havent been able to use the app yet. everytime i press login it just shows me a blank screen and nothing ever pops up..Version: 9.6.8

Can’t get/stay connected. It would be good if it would connect every time and then stay connected. Disappointing. Returned..Version: 9.5.11
