The Photographer's Ephemeris for Positive User Reviews

TPEWhen knowing the position of the sun and moon are important, then this is the application to use. To be able simulate the passing of the sun and moon through the sky this is the application for you! To see if the morning and evening light is hidden by the land formation, then this is the application to use. Many other uses are possible, will the Full moon be visible during sunrise or sunset then,..... This is the application for you. Fantastic application for any landscape photographer..Version: 2.5.1

The right time and place, every time!Ansel Adams is quoted as saying "A good photograph is knowing where to stand." With TPE I can get a very good idea of where and when I want to stand, and what I'll be able to see. I've been using the app for quite a while, and the latest version adds even more information on elevation and the visibility of astronomical bodies. In my opinion it is essential for landscape photography, and very easy to use. The ability to synchronize my locations between iPad and iPhone just improves the convenience even more. I recently had a technical problem with the app, which Stephen went to quite a bit of trouble to fix. Well done, for a great app and excellent service. If you're a photographer get TPE!.Version: 3.9

Awesome app for landscape photographers!I find this app invaluable for planning my photo shoots - picking locations, times & days. I love it!!.Version: 2.5.1

PerfectJust love this app, simple yet powerful..Version: 2.1.0

OutstandingAs a very keen photographer, this app has made all the difference. I cannot recall the number of times I've wasted hours visiting photographic opportunities, only to find the sun at the time I visited was in totally the wrong position or I had arrived at completely the wrong time. This app makes the planning so precise. Just a pity it can't tell me if it will be cloudy on the day I'm making the plan for😰. Seriously, it's quite brilliant..Version: 2.5.1

Feature rich, superb appThis is not just a tool to improve my photography. It's introduced me to a whole new way of understanding the world around me..Version: 3.11.1

Google Maps are back..!!!Great to see TPE has managed to restore google maps on the new update, switching between Google Maps and Apples own maps is night and day. Well done to the developers at TPE, the IOS6 update that removed google was a huge step backwards, the whole world is used to using Google Maps nowadays which is so informative. Absolutely worthy of the five stars..!!.Version: 2.4

The Ultimate Sun/Moon Calculator!I've been using the Desktop version of Stephen Trainor's Ephemeris for some time and it's been a fantastic tool for working out sun/moon positions. It has two major advantages over nearly all other apps. Firstly, it shows you the direction of the sun/moon on a google map (so you can line it up with the features you want to photograph) including the direction of twighlight glows. Secondly, it can be used to work out when the sun will rise over a geographic feature (such as a mountain or hill). Now the few programs that do this make you work out the angle of the feature from where you are standing, not particularly easy if you are planning a trip. However, TPE (The photographers ephemeris) lets you drop a pin on the map representing where you are and another pin where the crest of the hill is. TPE will then work out the angle for you and tell you when the sun will rise at that point! Marvelous! The desktop version is free and every photographer should own it. The iPhone app is not a cheap app but I guarantee it's worth it!.Version: 0

Great appExcellent app for any occasion.....especially when travelling. I use it all the time..Version: 2.5.2

So very handyI have taken up photography again and have found this app so helpful in my decision on where and when I need to be for those crucial moments in relations to sun rise and sun set, as well as the moon. Thanks for the app!.Version: 2.1.2

Perfect app for any photographerIt’s a “must have” app if you are a photographer.Version: 4.9

Best photography app everThe photographer’s Ephemeris is a really fantastic tool to aid landscape and cityscape photography. Giving you at a glance views of the direction and angle of the sun and shadow. This is for any geological place on earth at any given day of the year. Automatic time zones and elevation detection..Version: 4.9.1

Years of use and serviceI think I have been using this app for more than 5 years. I have gotten so many great moon rises both morning and night. It is so helpful for planning shoots. A portrait with the sun or moon in the distance is memorable. It has gotten a little busy over the years with all the features but well worth the extra strain on my aging eyes. The developer loves this app and they put their heart and sole into it trying to make it the best it can be. (App Request: Dummy mode: only display what can be used in the 3 hours.) Worth every penny and will last you several camera bodies. This is one of the first apps I recommend to my photo friends and install on my new apple devices. Enjoy..Version: 4.11.2

A rarity: an app that achieves more than it claims.I've downloaded and used (probably) hundreds of apps over the last few years (since the launch of iPhone 2) and this is the first review that I've felt moved to submit. The "Photographers' Ephemeris" is elegantly designed and provides users - not just photographers- with a wealth of useful astro data about any location. Date specific, the graphical interface enhances the planning process for any trip. Really useful..Version: 3.0

Absolutely FabulousI'm an enthusiastic amateur who loves photographing the moon in particular. This app is brilliant. Set multiple locations and see where the sun or moon are going to rise and set any day of the year. I would be lost without it! Would love if it showed what else was going on in the sky at the same time, but that's probably another app!! :).Version: 2.5.1

Really usefulThis is a great app. Lots of useful features. I always use it to check where shadows will fall and the best times to take photos in a location. Useful that you can save favourite locations. Also can play around with different dates. For example I can decide to leave going to a location until say 3 weeks later when the sun will be in a better position. The accurate sunrise and set time are very helpful. In fact it's a great travelling companion even if you don't take pictures !.Version: 2.1.2

The App Outdoor Photographers Have Been Waiting For!Anyone who does serious amateur or pro shooting will LOVE this app. At it's most basic it tells you when and where the sun and moon will rise and set for any location you can pinpoint on it's (Google based?) map. Using a range of tools you can then see where the sun will be anytime of day, when it will appear or disappear in relation to local hills or mountains, what is being illuminated by the sun. It's all overlaid on the map or satellite view. You can plan your entire day's shooting and know that you have the best chance of getting the image you want.... As long as the weather cooperates. Because the desktop version has the most functions they should make locations share from the desktop to the iPad and iPhone versions ASAP. The desktop version is free and combined with how to videos on the company website you can figure out using the more complicated features. The main time and direction information is super easy to access but they should give a bit better instruction on features that use elevation data In had basic features working from startup and an hour on the website and playing with the app I seem to have most of it working. I've already bookmarked some locations I will now try to hit for sunrise pictures. I'll also use the sunrise sunset data for planning video shoots. Being able to tell how many hours of daylight you will have on a given date in a distant location be very useful for planning shoots. Try the free download version on your Mac or pc. You won't believe how useful this is. Will be full stars when they make locations share between versions..Version: 2.0.5

Great app, but badly handicapped by IOS 6 maps in EuropeThis is a really fine app if you are running IOS 5, but be warned that if you upgrade to IOS 6, the maps are so bad - over a good deal of Europe at least - that the app becomes barely usable. The problem can be laid at Apple's door, but it makes orientating yourself in TPE almost impossible - which is a real shame, because it was so easy using Google's maps. The situation may well be different in the US, but be aware of this problem..Version: 2.2.2

Great appThis is a great app for all sorts of planning in regards to where the sun/shadows are going to be. Thanks..Version: 4.9.1

Si easy to useI just love it. When you travel or even just around, it make a huge difference so you can take gorgeous pictures by planing where you should be located to take the perfect shot..Version: 3.12.1

A must have for all photographers !!!This app is simply the best one in it's category! I was a little bit hesitant to buy because of the price but let me tell you that you will not regret it. It is very well done and very very accurate. Alain Landry.Version: 2.0.6

Just brilliant!Does everything a landscape photographer would want. As for a seascape photographer? Now if it only had tides......Version: 2.1.3

5 for location information, 2 for functionalityAs much as I love this app, it drives me a bit bonkers. While you can find the directionality of the sun and milky way and all the cool stuff by placing the pin on the head of ant, the program does require a learning curve. [1] It is not intuitive. [2] The desktop version is equally non-intuitive and does not provide a night option or one that is easily found. [3] You can not enter GPS coordinates easily. On the web version you have to write a URL instead of simply entering the coordinates into two designated boxes like at least a dozen other apps offering GPS functionality. Still, despite these annoyances, it does the trick and once you work through it ‘particulars’ and you couple this with, say, Photopills, it does a hell of a job..Version: 4.6.1

Best photo appsSimply a great apps, everything you need for outdoor pic. Where or when the sun and the MOON will be up in the sky! Everywhere you go!!.Version: 3.4.1

Brilliantly well thought out.A deep, science based app that cannot help but make you a better landscape photographer. It’s astounding what this program will do if you invest the time to learn how to truly use it. Impressive. Lighting is not happen-chance with this..Version: 4.6.1

Great appA really useful app..Version: 0

Essential toolI use this app for location scouting and a locations diary The ability to be at the desired location and simply add that point for future reference is exactly what i needed. Also being able to decide when in the year to come back by advancing time and seeing in realtime the rise/set directions is so handy Only wish is that it would tie up with google maps or similar for satnav directions to the location rather than having to copy/paste co-ordinates into another apps satnav/map.Version: 3.1.4

Photographer's DreamAs a photographer and a traveller this app is amazing. Want to know sunrise, moonrise times etc for a city on a day - done and dusted. Great for ensuring you know where an when the sun will set to get great photos. Get it.Version: 2.5.1

Photo planing toolsI have been using the web app for while and today I purchased the “Photo planing tools” package. After spending a little while, preparing for a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton, I am really glad. I do see what I have been missing, even though the web app is good. TPE, TPE 3D and TPT are inseparables and work seamlessly. Get or upgrade to the tools package if you already have the TPE..Version: 4.3

Put this in your kitbagVery handy app for predicting exactly where and when sun will set and rise, same for the moon..Version: 3.1.3

GreatFantastic really useful tool for photographers but hate the update, the old interface was much more intuitive. See no benefit, only disadvantages to this update. A shame, a useful tool.Version: 3.1.2

The Photographers EphemerisThe desktop version hooked me, and the iPhone version is a great portable solution. Does exactly what it says on the box, and then some. Highly recommended.Version: 0

Works great for wedding planningI’ve used this for years, both as an amateur photog and in my work as a minister who does weddings. Photographers’ Ephemeris is great for helping a couple imagine the day when I first meet them a few months before. It visualizes, wonderfully, where the light will be in the church and on the steps at the hour appointed for their celebration. Usually, showing it too them makes them grasp that their plans are for real. It helps them get serious. It presents reality Thanks Crookneck people..Version: 4.9.1

Top toolThis is a very good tool for anyone who wants to know what the sun will be doing at anytime anywhere in the world. If you photograph landscapes, buildings or bridges you need this..Version: 3.0.1

Marcel PainchaudGreat app, especially when traveling to a new location for photography at dawn or dusk..Version: 3.1.2

Wonderful! While it took a bit to learn how to use it, I now use this for all of my planned photo shoots as a semi-pro landscape photographer. I even used it for a very important shoot where I wanted to position the sun behind a particular landmark, and it came out perfectly..Version: 4.10

Probably the best app I own...Absolutely love this app, great on the phone when you're out and about and see a potential location, but get the PC app to go with it for advanced planning at home. Takes the luck out of getting great pictures, with this app you'll always turm up on the right day at the right time..Version: 2.1.2

Fantastic appPlanning a day of photography just became a whole lot easier..Version: 4.9.1

ExcellentLove this app for location shooting to determine where to shoot and when..Version: 4.8

Awesome appA must for any landscape photographer. Easy to use, and very, very useful. Thoroughly recommend..Version: 2.5.2

Now I can believe the 5 star reviewsUpdate to my previous review. Response from support was great, and they pointed out why I seemed to be getting inaccurate sunrise and sunset times on a particular location. Essentially, I had somehow set an incorrect local time for one of my saved locations (my bad!). This is a complex app, and it clearly takes some time and effort to use, but very useful once you get to grips with it..Version: 4.9.1

Invaluable planning toolTPE and the new TPE 3D app are invaluable tools to help plan photo shoots and pick locations for nightscape images. I use them all the time..Version: 4.2.2

WorksI’ve used the desktop version before and this is basically the same thing so it’s great..Version: 4.4

Works great for night photographyI don’t do night photography all the time but this app is mighty helpful whenever I’m thinking about it. It answers all the guessing that would potentially ruin a shot for so many reasons like light pollution and where the milky way is etc. keep it up!.Version: 4.2.1

Very handy app for photography natural lighting.I use TPE quite regularly when looking to set up golden hour or sunrise / sunset shots, especially when looking at locations other than home..Version: 4.6.1

SkyfireThe Skyfire function can be very frustrating at times as it will not load. I will sign out and in over and over, zoom in and out with Skyfire not functioning. Please fix this issue as the trouble has been there since I subscribed over a year ago. This is one of my favorite features when it works..Version: 4.10

Top classI’ve tried lots of other photographers apps but always delete them and return to the best —- TPE, Great work Guys.Version: 4.2.2

Great app.Great little app. The only thing I would like to see is weather and tides to save time..Version: 2.1.2

Great ProgramReally great programme. Easy to use and provides all the information needed to enable the photograph to have that extra quality. Don’t know how I managed without it.....Version: 4.6

Really goodI bought this app years ago for judging where the sun light would be at any given time for landscape photography. It’s really good for that. Particular favourite is to use the AR feature which allows you to frame a scene using iphone camera and then track the sun/ moon over anytime of day. Pretty fun even if you just want to bag the best spot on a campsite or see when and where a supermoon will rise on the horizon. Still haven’t explored lots of the other features but I particularly like the fact that it’s still functioning after a small initial outlay years back..Version: 4.11.2

Beautifully DoneI just wish the morons at microsoft and lately Apple could design and write software half this well. Very well thought out, beautifully conceived, written and extremely useful. These three apps (or any one of them for that matter) take your photography to an entirely new level. They work together perfectly. Very complimentary with PhotoPills (you definitely want these three apps even if you already have it). What a pleasure ....Version: 4.3

Great appThis is a must for any landscape photographer. It works great and very easy to get up to speed quickly..Version: 3.11.1

Professional Outdoor PhotographerAn essential tool for serious & curious outdoor photographers. I’m not sure how I managed all those years without it! Its features are deep & robust. Expect a steep learning curve if you want to take advantage of its most useful features. In my book the time you spend will yield huge dividend!!!.Version: 4.8.1

Excellent Application could use some additional features.Very useful app, easy to use maps and the ability to predict orbital routes is super. I would really love to see a tidal feature added to the application, for us closer to water to know when the tide is in or out and its time. Please add..Version: 4.2.2

Simple and accurateBeing a software developer myself, there are only two things I look for in an application: the ability to do the job it was purchased for and ease of use. This application seems accurate and contains a wealth of information while keeping all functionality a gesture away. Very well done!.Version: 2.5.1

Excellent!!!It takes a bit to learn but it works very well and does what I need..Version: 4.9.1

The whole suite is fabulous; so useful and such detailed info! And the desktop version (paywall), has so much more info! Useful for artists, interior designers planning around light, landscape garden designers, etc..Version: 4.11.2

Great AppLet's me plan my photo shoots with loads of information about upcoming events..Version: 3.1.4

Easy to use, great information on sunrise and sunsetEasy to use app for finding exact sunrise and sunset times, as well as other astronomical information. Well integrated with Google or Apple Maps. I’ve used it in Europe and North America..Version: 4.12

Very useful tool!Love it..Version: 2.0.2

The one tool all photographers need.A great app!.Version: 4.9.1

Great stuffIf only it had tide information as well.Version: 0

This app is amazing. This is an amazing app and can't wait to use it out in the field. Was taking a quick look as I'm going on holiday to Vietnam and this will help to plan some really nice landscape pics..Version: 2.2.0

Works just great !Very helpful app, works great and does what I want. Awesome.Version: 2.1.2

Still a beginner but learning a lot about this appThis app is unbelievably sophisticated. My main use is for sky fire. But I have used the tool that allows me to plan a shot by using street view and the type of camera and lens. I just got a new lens for night sky photography. I have zero knowledge of the night sky so this will hopefully help. I am planning on watching some of their help videos to get the full benefit of this app..Version: 4.8

For City/Landscape PhotographsIt is great to show you the elevation and “Flow” of the land. Also it has 4 types of maps showing this in Google & 2 using Apple maps. You can see what you are getting into, but you must remember the this is just a map form yesterday, new trails or changes are not shown. Also the view is of the elevation is great as long as they haven’t built anything or grasses/trees grown too much, which is not true for Charlotte,NC. All this being said, I related the program a 5 Star because it shows you so many points of view, the sun & moon flow in the sky at a specific time and a better location to at least start looking for a good spot to get the frame you want. This program is great for starting a plan from your house and then going out for the picture..Version: 4.2.2

Skyfire is brokenFixed after a glitch and great again..Version: 4.9.1

Standard map is too dark if phone is in dark modeLong time user, always rated this 5 stars - but in most recent version the standard map is now dark blue, if your phone is in dark mode, making it very difficult to use. So still 5 stars but the dark mode map needs improvement..Version: 4.9.1

A must have for the traveling photographerExcellent tool for becoming more efficient and effective while planning and shooting. Helps make the most of your travel time and money..Version: 2.1.3

A great app for a keen photographerI was a little sceptical at first then I bought the app and started using it. My experience of this app so far is nothing short of brilliant! I love it and I am always using it. It has helped me improve my photography with planning shoots and scouting locations. The app is easy to use and very handy for both sun and moon rise/set information. There is so much available data with his app depending on the level of detail the user is looking for. The email support from the developer is also as good as the app. My best app by far..Version: 3.4.1

It Does what it says.Does what it says. Stable and it is exact. I am very happy with this app. Good buy for the money..Version: 3.15

Great Update!Thank you for another great update to PE. The new interface is elegant and awesome. This program is great for photographers planning a shot related to the sun or moon. It is also great for astronomy-related information. Highly recommended!.Version: 4.11.2

Fantastic! This app is great for planning outdoor shots, day or night. A must have for photographers that want to get it right. Each version better than the last. Thank you Crookneck!.Version: 3.5

Excellent!TPE is opening up new possibilities for me to plan dramatic photos. It takes some effort to learn how to make use of the app, but then the rewards are obvious. A big time saver, too, preventing wasted outings..Version: 2.5.2

Very helpful SupportI had a problem getting Skyfire to work in TPE. Stephen was very helpful. It didn’t take long and we had the issue fixed. Response time was very quick. TPE is pretty awesome. I hope to get a lot of use from it for planning in depth photography locations..Version: 4.6.1

There is nothing like itI have been using this tool on my iphone for a decade. Just realized it might exist for the ipad, and am downloading now so thought I’d write a quick review. I love this tool so much. Highly, highly recommend..Version: 4.11.2

Lost without itThis is a great app. It has become my go-to app when planning an outdoor shoot. My one complaint is that the pins can be difficult to reposition..Version: 2.0.3

Incredible AppI have been using TPE for years. I use it for photograph composition, but also for viewing times with my telescope, and even for simple sky object identification. There is a fairly simple learning curve, supported by great documentation and video tutorials. Powerful. Loaded with options. Accurate. Dependable lengthy track record..Version: 4.10

Excellent toolThis app is so handy when planning shoots, especially months in advance.Version: 2.1.3

City skylineWow, this app was on point during my New Year’s Eve weather check. It predicted a radiant sunrise over the Pacific Northwest at one of my favorite locations. It did not fail and I got the most beautiful light before and during sunrise. By the way, I got the shot..Version: 4.4.1

Excellent app for photographersMy go to source for photographing sites around the world to make sure I get the best light.Version: 4.2.1

Great App for landscapesEasy to use. Great interface and interaction with google maps. Makes assessing sunrises and sunsets easy. If you could add tidal information it would be complete..Version: 2.2.2

Awesome!Works brilliant ! Need a bit of reading to get used to the interface. videos are quite explanatory and help document is also great. Everyone will love the app specially who loves capturing sun/moon in their shot or want to know how the shadow is going to play out at certain place at certain time!.Version: 3.1

Steve OxleyGreat app..Version: 4.9.1

If your a Critical 5 shooter get it.Personally I don't believe in the golden hour. I believe in the critical five minutes. It's in those five minutes you have to be ready. And with The Photographers Ephemeris you have plenty of time to prepare..Version: 3.15

Essential for landscape photographersThe desktop version of this app is my favourite sun compass application but out in the field this iPhone app is supreme. It lacks some of the desktop functionality but is pretty much essential for the landscape photographer who wants to know where and when the sun (or moon) will fall on a subject. Just brilliant!.Version: 0

Invaluable AppFantastic application, makes planning and preparing for a shoot so much easier... Wouldn't be without it !.Version: 2.5.1

Love itVery helpful and precise .. Great job.Version: 2.0.6

Everything sun moon related in the palm of your handAnd it’s not just for photography. Curious where and when to look for sun/moonrise? On vacation and want to know where the sunset will be? This app does it all. Helps set up that one chance shot. And let’s you know when your next chance will be (or if it will even align). Well worth the price..Version: 4.11.2

IndispensableAbsolutely indispensable app for photographers. Simply a must-have on your mobile phone. DON’T recommend paying extra for SkyFire as the overlay published at 2:15/3:15 PM usually isn’t pushed to your phone until an hour before sunset by which time you should already be where you’re going. Near worthless..Version: 4.9.1

Nothing else like it!Extremely useful app, if you want to plan your photography for a trip or event. Pick your location-instantly you see sun and moon rise and set times. Tap on the date to pick a future date. Swipe a finger across the display at the bottom to see the direction of sun or moon overlaid on the map-satellite photo help plan the shot, and even tells you if terrain will obstruct your view of eg sunset. I have used it to choose location for a one time trip to the Mackinaw Bridge, as well as look to see where is the closest place to travel for the next solar eclipse. If you care about getting the most good locations for your photo trip, hands down this is the one to get!.Version: 4.1.2

The TwitcherIf you're wondering about getting this app, get it. You won't regret it one bit! Makes it so easy to plan shoots! Love it!.Version: 3.3

AwesomeI use this app on all it's platforms. Excellent. Really great way to do sun and moon shoot planning..Version: 2.4.1

FantasticThere is no way I would go to a new location without using this app..Version: 2.1.2

Excellent for planning public astronomy nightsI am a member of an astronomy club in California and we have several public Observing events. It is a real thrill for visitors when we can tell them that evening exactly when to start watching the exact place on the horizon where the moon will rise. No matter where we are!.Version: 4.6.1

Great AppGreat for planning a trip or even working out where the shadows will be later in the day..Version: 4.7

Simply the best scouting tool for photographersI have been using TPE for a few years and it is a must have app. Great for scouting out locations. The ability to add and save locations makes going back to favourite spots and being there for just the right light weather permitting. Only wish would be to sync and save locations on multiple devices..Version: 2.5.2

The ratings say it allTry finding another app out there where every rating is 5 star. I came across this via a photography web site and downloaded the PC version, had a play for 5 minutes and decided the iPad version was a 'must have'. For the one off price of a gallon of fuel I can now go to a location and be certain of the light angles if not the weather. Worth every penny. Utterly amazed at the combination of power and simplicity..Version: 2.0.6

TPE keeps getting betterI love the functionality and ease at which this software has built into it for photography.Version: 3.0

Great out in the fieldI have used this app many times when out shooting and planning shoots. Look forward to updates and new features like tides etc. Skys the limit. Love the desk top product as well..Version: 0

FantasticInvaluable tool for every photographer and traveler..Version: 2.5.1

BrilliantIt's a big improvement on the original version I 100% recommend this app for anyone thinking on getting it.Version: 3.0.1

Fantastically useful toolI really love this app - not only is it invaluable for photography but it’s also great for planning outside events. Really impressive functionality and performance..Version: 4.9.1

Amazing Photography AppThere are so many features packed into this App that it’s amazing. Spend a little time learning how to tap the potential and you will be rewarded with information to get the best photos and video. Just started flying a drone and have found this very helpful..Version: 4.9.1

Incredibly useful!Don't you dare photograph New Mexico without it!! Four stars because a few parts are awkward on the app, and it would be incredible to have it use the actual horizon in our mountains. Must have, improvements continue. Can't beat!.Version: 3.15

Great for sunrise photographyThis app is so useful for planning a photo shoot if you want early or late sun as a part of the lighting for your image. A bonus is you can plan into the future as well which is really useful when doing weddings or event photography.Version: 4.3

A must for outdoor photographyVery useful app with lots of functions. Makes planning easier and very easy to use.Version: 2.1.3

Amazing toolI had this app for a while but never really investigated it thoroughly as I initially found it a bit daunting. Finally with an impending lunar eclipse that was looking to be visible in my part of the world and clear skies as well I clicked on help! But with a small investment of your time, particularly watching the video tutorials, you will be amazed by how useful this app can be. Not only photographers but anyone who enjoys nature and wants to plan the perfect moment..Version: 4.3

Extremely useful.I’ve been using this app for about a year or more and it has proven very useful. I have several locations saved near home and a National Park where I go to to observe and photograph sun and moon rises and sets. Particularly, I try to photograph moon rises or sets within the Earth’s Shadow. This app provides the times and locations where this will happen. What it cannot do is control the weather, so ultimately it is still a challenge, but using this app ensures that you have all the information at hand to be in the right place at the right time..Version: 4.11.2

I'm always using TPEIf your a photographer it's almost a must have. You'll quickly get hooked and with the google maps integration. I find myself using TPE in place of the google maps app even when I'm not shooting. It's a great tool and well worth the cost..Version: 3.15

Outstanding AppDoes exactly what it promises to do, and does so effectively..Version: 4.9.1

The Photographer's EphemerisExcellent tool for landscape photographers. I use this app every time I'm taking an outdoor photo..Version: 2.5.1

Don't leave home without it!To be out in the field and being able to coordinate my location with the sun and the moon is heaven!.Version: 2.5.1

An essential for an landscape photographerThis is a truly excellent app that is as essential for a landscape photographer as a polarising filter and a tripod. It's easy to use and I particularly like the way it can be changed from a map view to a satellite or topography view. Also useful, I can imagine, for architects or any other specialists who need to know the path of the sun and moon..Version: 2.1.1

JimGreat app, very useful when shooting landscapes and impresses my clients as well..Version: 2.4

Beautiful ApplicationTPE is, for me, an absolute essential in planning and executing almost any outdoor photography assignment. Superb!.Version: 4.6.1

Pretty handyThis app helps a bunch in planning placement of sun and moon sets/rises once the subject scout hunt results in success. It’s pretty deep in its feature set too. Those I’ve tapped prove useful and fun. Recommend highly..Version: 4.1.5

Cool app, but could do with....Tide Times. As a keen coastal photographer, the only thing missing from this app is tides. Otherwise pretty cool app for planning sunset/rise shots etc.Version: 2.5.1

Excellent!An essential photographer tool for sun/moon set/rise shots..Version: 3.0

TPE RocksThis is a fine and reliable app. It useful in video, photography and astronomy use. Thanks for writing this program..Version: 4.12

Excellent tool for photographers!Very useful for planning your photography when you want to create the perfect shot whether it is sunsets, moon rises, Milky Way, or trying to determine visibility between arbitrary points on a map. One feature that I find differentiates this from other similar apps is that it shows the height of the terrain between two different points while taking into account the ENTIRE path between the two points. Other apps simply would disregard the fact that a mountain may be in between you and the far end obstructing your line of sight. To get the most from the tool, watch the videos posted on Vimeo on usage. Once I watched those, I had a much better understanding of how to use the tool effectively. Great stuff!!.Version: 4.4

Great App, A must for any Photographer.Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant, Well worth the money..Version: 4.2.2

Great App!I use TPE and her sister programs to plan every large landscape shot I take. It’s fantastic for choosing the right spot and the right time of year to get exactly the shot envisaged by the photographer. It’s also great for exploring shot concepts when time is limited and landing on those with the greatest chance of success. The time period indicators such as “Golden Hour” allows me to plan out leaving times from base camp and ensures I always have sufficient time to setup my shots ( I take a lot of HDR multi-position landscapes) I have just recently started Astrophotography and now also use TPE 3D in conjunction with this app for planning. Keep up the great work guys. Looking forward to seeing “Skyfire” for Australia and NewZealand!.Version: 4.2.1

Wonderful!An essential tool for landscape photography..Version: 2.5.1

Very Useful ToolGreat tool for landscape photographers. I use it all the time when scouting for locations. You won't be disappointed..Version: 2.5.1

PerfectThis is brilliant, use this to plan and use to go be an idea for line of sight for sunrise or sunset, very useful program. What I like most is TPE is very very easy to use and a good tool to plan for future sunrise and sunset using realistic satellite maps. In short a very well designed program that is a perfect tool for photography 10 out of 10 😀.Version: 4.0

I agreeI agree with everyone else awesome app if you do landscape photography it's a needed item. Great for planning your shoots . Very useful app highly recommended.Version: 2.5.1

Best app for Photographers bar none!If you photograph at all this is thee most needed utility next to a tripod. No, that’s not an exaggeration at all! Take the time to watch the tutorial videos and you’ll understand immediately when you plan your shot within the app. If I had to spend a couple of hundred to buy this app (lifetime fee of course) I wouldn’t find an issue doing so. Defined in three words to anyone thinking about it. YOU NEED THIS!.Version: 4.9.1

Much easier to useThe previous version was a bit clumsy to work with. Some functions just didn't seem to be available. I wouldn't say it is a joy just yet but I find it very useful for my photographic purposes..Version: 3.1.4

Works OK but... Could be improvedI find the updated version rather messy and cluttered - the new, added features, makes the display untidy with reduced space for the real stuff that I want to know about as an amateur photographer. Would be better if the clumpy boxes at the bottom of the screen could be retracted; if they can be then how to do it should be made easier and more obvious how to do it..Version: 3.0

An exceptional piece of workIf you photograph landscapes, seascapes or astronomical scenes, you need this app. I can’t imagine how I ever took a good landscape before I started using TPE. It allows you to get the hard work out of the way before you start out to actually get set up. TPE and the other Crookneck Apps are invaluable..Version: 4.6.1

Amazing!Best app for sunrises/sunsets. However it's a little bit heavy so most of the time I'm using a different app. Anyway 5 stars!.Version: 2.1.2

Great tool. While not claiming to be a pro photographer I am trying to learn and improve my technique. This is an excellent tool to help with regard to positioning to take into account sun, shadows, and general positioning. When you get the hang of it, with a little practice it can help with timing as well, rather then waiting for that perfect moment for a time, when you get used to interpreting the app, you can learn to read it together the best time of the day by skill rather then luck or massive patience. Add to that now with the addition of astronomical events this really is a very good tool that helps massively. Worth every penny..Version: 3.1

Best in classI have used the desktop version for a while and it is just perfect. The iPhone version will make it even more portable - highly recommended..Version: 0

Buy it!Excellent app. Never a problem (unlike some other apps)..Version: 2.1.3

Good aid for photo locationsGreat app for photo information, with different maps you can scout heights and obstructions. Sky fire is also useful.Version: 4.9.1

Don’t Leave Home Without It!I travel a fair bit and keep TPE in a special directory on the front page of my iPad. I never even think about shooting a sunrise without planning my shots using TPE. TPE tells me when and where I will get the best shot. I can see if I should change locations, recompose or try for another day. TPE is it for me. So appreciative of the updates as well. No negatives..Version: 4.1.3

Good toolI use this app to plan photo outings. Helps me create great images..Version: 4.9.1

Must Have AppEvery photographer should use this in any natural light. It’s easy to use and offers a ton of options to get just what you want..Version: 4.11.2

Serves my purposeI’ve used TPE for several years and have found it nearly perfect for my needs. Granted I use it only at its simplest level, but it hasn’t failed me yet. I can arrive in plenty of time to get my landscape and architectural photos at sunrise or sunset. I use it both on trips and locally (in NW Oregon) with my phone and iPad..Version: 4.5.3

Essential tool for landscape workBrilliantly written app, hugely useful - I've taken several pictures which are now hanging on my wall which I would not have got without this app - either my timing would have been wrong or I would simply have been on the wrong part of the coast. The only improvement I could suggest to this is to link in the sea tide tables so you can work out where the water would be when as well as sun and moon. If you like landscape photography, this app is as necessary as a tripod.Version: 2.0.3

AwesomeIt s a while I have been using this app and I should admit that it s very functional and user-friendly!.Version: 4.7

In theory it's great!But, it's complicated. It doesn't easily recognize when you're in a new location..Version: 2.5.2

Amazing, easy to learn, time and money-saving tool! This lets me plan my shots more easily, and reduces wasted travel time, and helps me make the most of my vacation time. I have the iPad version and the free Windows desktop version and they are both good. Highly recommended. I just use the basic fetaures and I use them for planning outdoor people portraits as well as landscapes. There are some advanced features for more sophisticated users and I'm sure they are even more useful for ultra-skillful landscape photographers. I also bought Bruce Percy's ebook, Understanding Light With The Photographers Ephemeris, and it is a worthwhile book to own..Version: 2.1.3

Simply AmazingThere is so much to this app. Beautifully designed and really meticulously thought through with myriad functionalities. Was a bit daunted when I first opened it up, but the video tutorials soon resolved that. I’ve only begun to scratch the surface, but am already aware that this is an indispensable time saving tool for photographers, DOPs, location scouts and more..Version: 4.8.1

A wise choice! It's pretty simple, really; we think that we know where it rises and sets, but in reality we're mostly clueless as to the movements of the sun in relation to our surrounds. There's little worse than promising yourself or a third party that you have the best place from which to capture the sun, shadows, twilight, etc... only to find that you were miles out. This App fixes that problem. Simple. Brilliant. Easy to follow. Download it now!!.Version: 4.9.1

A must for astrophotographersAmazingly powerful app that is a must have for planning shots of the moon or any astrophotography! Thanks to this app that my instructor used, we were able to get fantastic shots of the Milky Way galaxy as it appears over local natural landmarks at night, which would just not be possible without incredible amounts of guesswork otherwise..Version: 4.2.1

Essential tool for landscape photographyI find TPE not only very useful but also essential in some cases for successful landscape photography. Knowing ahead of time where and at what time sunrise and moonrise will occur and even being able to compensate for the effect of obstructions such as nearby hills or more distant mountains has allowed me to position myself at just the right spot at the right time. I highly recommend this tool for landscape photography..Version: 4.12

Stunningly goodI rarely bother to write reviews; only about three written to date. I have to rate this app however as it is incredible! This is such a fantastic useful tool for any photographer. Some reviewers say the price is steep, but for what you get it is very fair. Compared to spending 59p on a rubbish app that I will use once, this is value for money. If you like shooting anything to do with the sun, moon or are conscious of light in your photos, then you need this app. The algorithms behind this must be very detailed and complex (hurrah for mathematics!) and the results are fantastic. Thank you to the developers, this is going to be well used on my phone..Version: 2.1.3

SuperThanks great apps working everywhere Love it! R.Version: 3.1.4

So Many Uses! There are obviously many ways to use this for photography, but there’s so much more! Where should you buy seats to the game/concert so you’re not staring into the sun? Depends on the time of day..Version: 4.3

Great App, one suggestionThis is a great app out in the field, very easy to navigate and use (provided you have reception). I think it could do with a "notes" field so you can add additional info when you save a location, so instead of typing a long description into the title you can include notes such as best times of day or interesting features..Version: 2.1.1

An essential for photogs!Get this app! Great tool for planning your scenery shots! Download, set up, shoot, be amazed!.Version: 2.0.2

Well done, all the info you could need. Nearly didnt..$.. But, cheaper than a photo magSometimes you are reminded how much apps can help. I have been using sun seeker/google maps to location scout for a while, this has all that and more in one interface. I can now more accurately plan lighting for locations across the city.. Or world! Have started planning shoots and adding pins for all my fav's. So much more info to use if you want..elevation/shadows/moon phase nicely done. (The only other possible slice of info if possible, TIDE TIMES Per location?) Save you scouting/shooting $ in the long run.Version: 2.2.1

New Version - as good, if not better!!It took me a few minutes to orient myself to the new version, but now that I'm "there" I like it even more! It seems like it has better use of limited screen real estate. It also seems to take fewer clicks to do what I want with new version - great!.Version: 3.0

Superb tool for photographers/astronomers/dronepilots etcIf you want to know how a location that you’ve yet to visit will “look” at different times of the day or night, then this is the app for you. When will the daylight produce the shadows your looking for to make your image “pop”? What time will a particular constellation be seen over your chosen object? This app has the answers! Worth every penny of the cost. If you’ve a query, the developer is super fast to respond too! 10/10!.Version: 4.6.1

SuperbHave been using for quite a while for photography. Terrific App. Does all that is claimed..Version: 0

BrilliantThis app is just brilliant. Beautifully designed and a pleasure to use in the field and in the armchair dreaming of the next shoot. I am a professional maker and as along with my weather app this is a must for planning and scouting locations. All the best to the developers..Version: 3.0.1

Photographer appsIt's the best apps each photographer need to have. The developer added great functionality. Very recommended..Version: 3.1.3

Elegant user interfaceA feat in user interface design. Delivers extremely technical information in a very elegant UI. Bravo!.Version: 3.0.1

Great for planning a day outI love this little app on my iPad. I am planning an overseas photographic orientated trip and have adjusted my plans to allow for the positions of the Sun during the day. It is great being able to do this months in advance. Keep up the good work!.Version: 2.0.6

Amazing AppWith this app I have been able to plan for shots for a planned trip or for a date and time that I can get a shot based to the sun or moon position relative to a land mark..Version: 4.11

A very very cool app.Indispensable! :).Version: 2.0.6

Great app for what I needAs a realtor's assistant in cottage country, my boss and hence me, is always being asked "where does the sun set/rise", "is there sun on this deck in Jan, Aug, Nov?", etc. - this app is great for this but I do find the learning curve steep for all the other features available. Still a great app and worth the money. Is it available on other platforms?.Version: 2.5.2

GREAT APP!! - A Photographers MustGreat App!! A Photographers Delight : - ).Version: 0

InvaluableI'm an architectural photographer and use TPE for planning literally every shoot. Great interface..Version: 3.2

Daily checkerI use this app everyday to check conditions. The apps has a learning curve but once you start using it it becomes second nature. Excellent for planning photo trips and locations. I really like the night time/Milky Way mode and the optional Skyfire feature. Highly recommend this app if your into landscape photography. Only issues I’ve had is the clunky sign in process for Skyfire. Usually have to turn the WiFi off on my iPhone in order to sign in..Version: 4.1.3
