Breathing Zone for Negative User Reviews

Old version was betterA few years back, It was recommended to me by a health professional. I had to learn to control my heart rate through breathing. With the new version, I lost the « start rate » and « target rate » setting. I don’t understand the new settings at all. Changing my rating from 5 to 3..Version: 4.3

Used regularly until the updateI’m not happy with the update. At first, I was excited by the additional sound options, but they weren’t what I expected. My biggest complaint is that the breathing rhythm has changed. The breath in is now quick with a very slow breath out. Previously the breath in was equal in length to the breath out, the way I learned from “The Healing Power of the Breath.” There are many styles of breathing for health and mindfulness. It would be nice to have the option to choose the rhythm of breaths in and out..Version: 4.3

OverpricedI stupidly thought that this would offer more than the free breathing apps, it doesn't so save your money. This does do the job, it will get you started but nothing beyond that..Version: 3.1

Where time has no meaningThe audio and graphics on this app are nice, they make doing breathing exercises enjoyable. You can set the breathing rate and the duration of the session, but I find the controls are not accurate. When I set it to 7 bpm for 10 minutes, it ran 5 bpm for 19 minutes. Through trial and error I figured out how to make it work for me. It seems like this would be an easy fix, can’t imagine why the developers haven’t done it..Version: 4.9.2

SimonLove the app but in recent update there is a pulsing humming sound which makes it really annoying.Version: 2.4

Not worth itFor $4.50 all it did was make me light headed, didn't help my anxiety, I'll stick to meditation apps which actually work and don't cost the earth!.Version: 1.7

Use the app dailyNew release has a number of bugs. Breathing bubble not centred in first load, and the breathing rate can no longer be adjusted during a running session..Version: 2.3

Bought for family but can’t shareBought this mainly for my daughter to use but it won’t work through family sharing and there is zero help so I’ve spent £3.99 for nothing.....Version: 4.9

Not recommended for iwatchI bought this for my iwatch but you can’t get rid of the notification beeps unless you put the watch on silent. There’s also no pattern like pictured just a boring circle. Settings don’t sync with phone and no haptic vibrations. Waste of money with no trial period to figure these things out beforehand. Don’t recommend..Version: 5.3

No goodThis app really is a waste of time and money. Would be ok if free as you won't use it more than once when you see how pointless it is. Definitely not worth 6 bucks. Just breathe in and out slowly and save yourself the money.Version: 2.6

RelaxingI do like this app as it’s extremely relaxing, however, I do not like the new features of the update, the ‘sound’ choice is rubbish compared to the previous options, I liked the ‘male choir voice’ that was available in the last update. I wish they wouldn’t make major changes in update or ask for people’s opinions before taking away sounds. Otherwise it is a good app and worth the money..Version: 4.5

BugsFaulty. I set the weekly tracker for 45 minutes. Had 33 minutes remaining then the 2nd day I did 3 more minutes and after it said I still had 39 minutes to get to my 45 target.Version: 2.6

Good breathing app , though a tad wonkyI like this app because it does what it says. It helps you to regulate your breathing. A soothing voice can guide you if wanted; and there are several varieties of breathing speeds. It can work with the health information on your iPhone if you like. What's even better is that there's no push for you to have memberships or join clubs. The only negative thing is that the sometimes the breathing speed becomes irregular..Version: 4.5

DisappointedThis not worth £3.99 as you can get other similar apps for free. The guided inbreath is a lot shorter than the outbreath and no way of changing this..Version: 3.1

Previously a great app.. but disastrous update..Simple to use; simple to set. Put on headphones & you can use it anywhere. It WAS the best on the market. However this recent update 1.7 is silent on iPhone silent mode. (This is unnecessary as you can set App to silent manually if that's what you want). The practical impact is that I can't use it now. To hear the sound prompts I have to take iPhone off silent mode, introducing anxiety due to the risk of phone calls or text messages shocking me out relaxation.. Surely, the reverse of what's needed.. A bad move from my point of view; I hope this gets fixed soon...Version: 1.7

Waste of MoneyNot very useful. Was expecting more. Save you money..Version: 2.6

Not optimized for iPhone 4/4SGreat but the app appears not to be full compatible on the iPhone 4/4S. The elements on screen are not centered..Version: 2.3

Formerly my fave appI used to love this app! I used it every day for mindfulness. The app was very simple and well designed. My favorite feature was that it would automatically adjust the breathing rate down as you used it. That is no longer this app, and I really really regret updating it. It seems now to be focused on gamification/metrics and no longer focused on mindfulness. These features that are designed to get the user more engaged with the app and spend more time in the app completely defeat the entire purpose of downloading it. I recommended this app to many friends/family/colleagues/etc, and it is very unfortunate that the app has taken this step backward in functionality. Another example of this is the fact that the transitions between breathing rates now sound much rougher and unpleasant than before. Really really baffled with this one. Will keep an eye on the comments to see if anyone has another app to recommend - a functional clone of the old Breathing Zone would be ideal! I’m rating it 1 star because a previously extremely useful app has fallen victim to app trends that do nothing for the end user. I appreciate the beautiful new animations, but all the other additions (and the extremely baffling removal of good features) are pretty frustrating. I miss the simplicity of BZ..Version: 4.1

Latest update has made this an inferior productWhen I first got this app years ago it was excellent. Over time there have been updates that simplify the app and as a result have resulted in decreased versatility. It used to be that when one used the app, there was a countdown timer in the upper right corner that told you how many minutes were remaining. Then it was downgraded to a circle that was drawn as time progressed And when the time was up, the circle was complete. I found the circle to be inconvenient compared to the timer but I could live with it. Now there is no timer and no circle. In the settings, it used to be that you could adjust how many breaths a minute you wanted whether it be 3.8, 4.1, 6.7 or whatever. Now you can only choose BPM in multiples of point five. What makes this worse is that there is no longer any way to adjust this once the program is running. Some days my body will breathe slower or faster than others. During my breathing practise I will breathe anywhere from occasionally 3.8 to up to 4.5 breathes a minute. It varies with the day and time. If I have adjusted the settings to breathe 4.5 BPM and my body wants to go slower, well then that is tough luck for me. Sometimes I set this app on vibrate and I use it to help me fall asleep at night. Last night I had set the app up for 20 minutes and as the time was up, I was just on the brink of sleep. All of a sudden the app went “ding” to indicate it was over and ding jolted me wide awake. Why an have annoying ding on the silent vibrate mode? I loved this app before. I have yoga students. I used to recommend this app to them. Sadly, this app just isn’t what it used to be and I’m going to hunt around for something better..Version: 4.1

Almost perfectI like that it is a breathing app, not a “guided meditation “ app. I like the 4 7 8 setting a *lot*! I like that I can turn all audio feedback off and just let it quietly tap my wrist on Apple Watch. Last thing it needs is to sync with iPhone app and Health app. The watch is trying to sync, and returns a message that I need to allow sync with Health app, but there is no option to allow sync, either in iPhone BZ or in Health app. My sessions are not recognized in either iPhone app and both BZ and Health say I have completed no minutes..Version: 4.7

So much better than default Apple Watch appReally like the controls on this app. The Apple Mindfulness app seems to think you have the lung capacity of child..Version: 5.7

Cost DeceivingIt says $4.99 but it fails to tell you it’s $4.99 a week . Didn’t think it was that good ..Version: 4.9.3

Great app - needs finishing touchesGreat app. I'm a heavy snorer and I believe this app has made me breath more easily at night. Would be a five star product of you could add a few more different tones and create a better calendar for record purposes..Version: 2.6

No updatesIt’s a good app but they haven’t updated in years. Probably something better on the market now..Version: 4.9.2

Update broke the app?The times are wrong. I have it set to 6 bpm equal in out should be five seconds each direction. This morning it was working, now it is doing 15 seconds each way. I restarted my phone, then deleted and reinstalled the app, it worked briefly and then when I went to the settings page and returned to the breathing page it was wrong again. My husband gets mad when I don’t update my apps but this is why! Apps you love and use stop working. Update ************************ The developer contacted me. Saying the app was working, not saying “hey we found a bug and fixed it”. Yes I tried it again and it is working now, but when it was broken I found breathe + and coherence apps, they are other possibilities. I am raising my review to 3 stars, it works today but who knows how long?.Version: 4.5

Very unhappy with updated versionUtterly disappointed when I updated this app. It was brilliant before, easy to use, liked the celestial choir and the sound of surf which rolled out making it sound as if you take a walk on the beach. It was a regular thing I introduced to my clients and recommended getting it. New version does not have the celestial choir sound any more, the water/surf sound is harshly cut off which jerks, and the settings are quite complicated to use. I wished I had never updated it and kept the previous version. Can you please add the missing sound again and adjust the surf sound so that it is relaxing again to use it. Thanks. Hmmm, nobody seems to have responded..Version: 4.5

Good start. For beginners this may be quite useful- however at around 3bpm the audio files tend to be less useful, and likewise the pattern. The application only offers a 1:1 ratio of in-breath to out-breath and likewise has no mechanism for sustained full exhale / full inhale - so it's not very configurable. Also there are no time-in / time-out cues, and it would be nice to have breath progression markers. Having said all that, it's pretty and it may well help with breath control development. Just seems like a lot to pay for an entry-level app..Version: 3.1

TerribleWaste of time dont get trust me.Version: 1.6

Helpful but hard to use since redesignGuide images are no longer centred on iPhone 4S. Since the redesign, setting breathing rates using the increment and decrement buttons is extremely slow and annoying. These were a lot more usable as sliders. Sure it looks kind of pretty, but that shouldn't come before usability. Old review, which is still relevant. I'm generally very anxious and am prone to panic attacks. This app has helped me to regulate my breathing at times when I'm feeling on edge. Would really love to be able to set default breathing rates as I find 6 bpm relaxes me more than 8..Version: 2.2

Complicated UX and lack of optionsWas recommended to this app. Very disappointed for a paid-app to not have clear options for inhale, exhale and hold. The settings at "BPM" instead of seconds and both the low end of 2 bpm to max 9 bpm are very rushed. The 4-7-8 breath isn't to cue either. All around a garbage app..Version: 5.3

Worse than uselessBought this app full of faith & optimism. Its initial feel, however, seemed gross & clunky. And it seemed to be giving highly erratic readings. So I went to the breathing 'analyzer.' Its readings, too, bore no relation to inhalations measured on an ordinary one-minute timer. So? Held my breath for one minute. Result? A breathing rate of '9.3'. Struggled with this app, trying to get it to work. I would like a refund. For me, sad to say, it has proved worse than useless..Version: 1.6

A good idea, however...Apple has a breathing app on the watch. This app’s watch app is weak. There are no settings, and sessions on the watch are not counted on the app. The watch app and phone app seem to be disconnected. If you want to be my favorite breathing app, give a unified offering and use the health data, like heart rate to improve your offering. This is weak and needs to be brought into modern times.Version: 4.5
