Meetup: Social Events & Groups for Negative User Reviews

App in dire need of useful featuresI am not certain of what improvements were made with the recent app update but I've finally become fed up with the app and deleted it. It's only set up for iPhone because why would you want to manage your meetup(s) on an iPad? It's clear that meetup has no interest in what their paying customers want or need. If you use meetup to manage your interests then be prepared to be hammered by constant emails and notifications. There is no easy way to port events to your device calendar which would be the best improvement they could implement. The app doesn't allow meetup owners to manage members, everything has to be done on the website. The real estate on the app makes it difficult to use in general. It is truly a shame the app is so bad because it is likely to drive users away from a great service. On the web I can search out related groups in other locations as I travel and there are lots of local activities I never would have known about without meetup. Ignore the app use the service..Version: 8.6.3

Buyer BewareThe “Best Value” Annual Plan is misleading. It is written exactly as follows for 🇨🇦: $12.99/year $1.08/month…however when you click to subscribe it then indicates $12.99 per month…not per year..Version: 2023.09.8

Doesn’t always work. The more the app gets “updated”, the more it freezes, gives an error message, or takes forever to load..Version: 2023.12.15

Not Safe!!!I have an impersonator on this app! There is someone with my same name, in my same groups and same community with my same likes. Please note that my name is uncommon. You won’t anyone with my first and last name combined. I caught a screenshot of of this other profile with a photo. It is definitely not me, but right after I took the screenshot, the profile photo was removed. I reported this a number of times. At first, I thought I may have had established an account at an earlier time and had just forgotten about it. I checked my other emails but found nothing to confirm that. Now, I have proof that this is an imposter! I want this account deleted and I want a response to my complaint! Otherwise, I have to say that the people managing this app are doing nothing to keep the people who want to enjoy this app safe! I have a valid complaint and I have been ignored! The app is a great idea but I need to feel safe. Is this imposter staking me? Do I need to feel afraid to “meet up” with any of the social groups I’m interested in? I need this imposter removed and investigated! What is going on here? How can this be allowed and after I’ve made complaints? Developers (or whomever) pease, contact me further so that I may send the screenshot. I think I might have to report this to the authorities for my safety concerns... I’m only asking that the developers do their part..Version: 8.1.6

So difficult to work withThis application is not user friendly at all. Example - in your YouTube link for your group , the link contained must have the word watch in it to be valid. So if you are posting a link for shorts then it won’t accept it as valid. I wanted to cancel the subscription twice but I have screenshots where it won’t let me and throw an error message and no chat super Please pay your QA guys. I have so many complains but I guess.Version: 2023.8.9

Lots of glitchesMeetup works, but has lots of annoying glitches which with slow technical support are difficult to report. Details changing are particularly annoying, map defaulting to strange places, defaulting from 1 to 99 guests, meeting times changing & information disappearing when inputting details for a walk. Non of our group are happy with the changes encouraging members to contact each other privately, saying that ‘the app is starting to appear more like a dating agency than a platform for a walking group.’.Version: 2023.08.25

Buggy and complicatedThis was my first experience with the app (and organizer app) and organizing a meetup event and I’ve already lost confidence. Navigating around the app often leads me in circles and even just trying to find a message is inexplicably complicated. When I click on the Reply link from an email notification it takes me to… not the message. And the app even crashes consistently when I click on the link to my own event (are any group members even able to open the link? I have no idea). This might be expected from a free app or something but to think that they’re charging for this? Sorry meetup, great idea- terrible product..Version: 2023.7.14

Some features not includedYou really ought to be able to use this app to fully edit your profile - needing to go on the desktop site to change interests, for example, is a bit of an oddity given how mobile-friendly other social apps are these days..Version: 7.14

After a decade this platform should have nailed itI’ve been an organizer for almost as long as this platform has existed and seen others come and go as they charge various fees. Meetup is still lagging in basic functionality matters noted by many reviews, yet it’s raised it’s fees and made any upgrades inaccessible unless you pay even more to “go pro” Communicating with your members, handling RSVPs and uploading images should a seamless single click options. Not so here, even after years of contact asking that these basic items be attended to, and as someone who worked with images for years, I know how to meet the specs for photos and this platform’s system hasn’t been updated since it’s inception. These user-unfriendly issues are why so many of us have migrated to other venues and are using meetup less and less except for the simplest of basic announcements..Version: 9.0.3

Good concept, bad notification managementPush notifications in general can be stressful and distracting. By default, in this app, groups posting new events generate notifications. Additionally, there are these stupid "Keep it going" notifications to harangue you into interaction. These are probably useful for some folk, fine. I have now though, on four occasions, reviewed my notification preferences in this app and turned off those that one would think are responsible. Namely "Event reminders", "Saved event reminders", and for the individual groups, "Event reminders" and "New event announcements". Yet still the notifications came. In the end, I got sick of it and turned push notifications for the whole app off. This app would be vastly improved by clearer notification preferences. E.g. Notifications could in some way specify what type they are so that the corresponding type could be toggled off in preferences..Version: 8.7.26

Constantly losing functionThe team behind Meetup never seem to do any testing before going live with updates with the result that important functions disappear or can’t be used. Today I turned up as the organiser of an event to find I could no longer mark attendees as ‘paid’, ‘didn’t go’, ‘no show’ or edit their guest numbers on the app. Working as normal on the web page version but broken on the app. Was working fine on Wednesday. This is the eighth issue in the last 18 months or so. Last month all my expenses data from before November 2019 disappeared (but not the income data!). This and other new technical issues with the money page that I reported were responded to with a ‘thanks for your suggestions’ ?????!!!!! Abysmal service to organisers paying a subscription. And the robotic response I’ve just received confirms my review. Of course I have deleted and reinstalled the app - several times - to ensure I have the latest version. After being a subscriber for 7 years and living through the ongoing poor rollout of updates I don’t need that ‘advice’. And it is a waste of time sending through a fault report. It takes weeks sometimes for a response and then it is usually facile - like the last one ‘thanks for your suggestion’..Version: 2023.10.24

Keeps getting worseNote to self: when this app is bearable, never update it! Does anyone who develops this app actually use it? Before the reskin some years ago this app was actually highly useable but they keep finding ways to make it unusable. Latest change to the upcoming events section: now you can’t see how many people are going to each meetup and you have to go to the actual meetup to see that. The search meet-ups facility, it doesn’t remember the search parameters you use so for people that tend to actually live in the same area, time after time you’re entering the same parameters: distance, sort order, etc etc Notifications saying there is a new comment, you’d expect to be taken to that comment but no you’d be wrong, but matters you’re taken to the meetup where you have to scroll all the way down, the comments aren’t necessarily ordered well so you’re groping around in the dark trying to find said comment until eventually you don’t even care anymore. These are basic UX issues that apps like Facebook and Instagram, Twitter etc get right. Just take note, this isn’t rocket science.Version: 2023.12.15

Nothing relevant to doThere’s just nothing relevant to do… feels abandoned.Version: 2023.09.26

Not so great for managing groupsOn the whole the app is good for most things, but it’s not great for managing a group. You can’t seem to edit the member roles using the app, and if you try to log into the site using your phone it automatically redirects you back to the app. So you then have to request the desktop version in safari if you want to manage the leadership team on mobile. In addition, I don’t get any notifications, either by email or push, when a member creates a new discussion. As far as I can tell there just isn’t a setting for it..Version: 8.5.8

Gets worse every update.Meetup has been charging organizers higher and higher fees while stripping functionality from their apps (like taking attendance). The company won’t let us suspend our subscriptions when we can’t safely run meetups due to COVID-19, and the only alternative is to delete the group. This app and the lack of support it gets makes it clear Meetup doesn’t care about its users. Done with this app and Meetup as a whole..Version: 8.2.6

Very useful for looking for events but customer service is badI have enjoyed using Meetup to meet people, find events and have made some friends in those events. Highly recommended. The only thing I am not a fan is that the chat function and customer service. It really needs to improve its customer service, as I have wasted so much time trying to reach them and resolve my issues. The chat function is slow and sometimes doesn’t show until days later..Version: 2024.1.03

Organiser for many years and sick of bad UXI've been using meetup for about 7 years. The concept is great. The app and website stuck badly. I've put up with so many bugs and poor design choices over the years that, if I could, I would jump ship so quickly to an alternative. The most recent fiasco was that they introduced 'event chat' to the app so some users but not all. Users of the previous app could still write the old style comments, but users on the new app couldn't read them. An absolute nightmare if you're an organiser like me. I couldn't communicate with the attendees of my events. Get your act together meetup..Version: 9.0.8

The Meetup app does for mobile what the Titanic did for cross-Atlantic travelTo say this app is poorly designed and act like that was the main problem would be doing a huge disservice to their exceptionally incompetent dev team. This app seems to stop working every time Apple updates their software and emailing their tech support general results in you getting a reply a week later asking if you can try again using Chrome. You explain for the fourth time that you using the app isn’t the issue, the issue is your group members not being able to sign up for your events. I run two groups with a combined total of over 4000 members. I can exactly go to all of their houses and tell them to try a different browser and maybe they will be able to sign up for the event I am hosting. Though it’s always fun to wait a week to hear back from Meetuo’s tech support only to have them ask if I am signed in to the app or I I know the basics of how to use an app that requires users to log-in. It’s really a bummer as it couod have been a great app but unfortunately their tech support team is a giant iceberg and it’s sinking fast with all of the event hosts scrambling for the life-boats..Version: 2023.09.8

Hidden Fees and Bad Customer ServiceI only started to make a Meetup event on their website on my phone, and though I didn’t finalize it, Meetup still made me an organizer for a group which gave me an unexpected and unasked for $20/month subscription. I re-downloaded Meetup to make an event (unknowingly the app was $10), only after seeing that the event that I never even finalized, had gained members over 80 members in a few days. Didn’t know I’d be charged for anything out of this whole deal, and have lost $30 from thinking that this app could better my life. Though they collect money without explicitly saying it, they do not have a phone number to call when you find their unexpected charges in your bank statements. Much better to make meetups via a phone or email list instead of relying on these this fake and unethical service. I genuinely believe that they add members to peoples’ groups to rope them in and keep them subscribed and distracted long enough for their hidden charges to clear in you bank account..Version: 8.0.16

Terrible app experienceIPhone users can't see event chat (need to do complicated procedure to access it, well-known problem that obviously hasn't been solved), all my chats are always in random order, can't see posted pictures, can't find existing events using search function, and now it's actually unusable because the certificate is invalid. I've updated it and reinstalled and nothing helps. Since I literally can't use the app anymore I've tried the website but even that has been a subpar experience as well. Meetup, it's like you're really trying to stop me from using your program!.Version: 2023.6.23

They want me to pay to post-nope!Too high a price post events.Version: 2023.12.13

AwefulAs an organizer, why are we charged monthly fee and have to watch adds yet we end up usjng desktop version to post an event, in 12 months they did not change any features that do not work on the app.Version: 2023.10.24

Toooo many notifications and emails!Wow this app had such promise. There’s so much to do! Wait! Here’s ten more things to do! Here’s fifty notifications a day! Isn’t this great? Here’s some emails to remind you about the notifications. Nah I’d much rather use Facebook for what this app offers. One extra star for looking nice..Version: 7.13

Great concept, but app has some weird behaviorI love how easy it is to find and create events. The app just has a few areas for improvement. First off, the app will send you notifications to sign up for events that have already closed their RSVP, that are full and have a long wait list, or that you've already signed up for (just got one as I was writing this). Additionally, the notification system for messages and event chats is unreliable, and one must manually refresh the event page to be sure you're seeing the latest messages. Just tapping on a notification for a message does not necessarily mean that that message will be shown in the chat when it opens. Sometimes you need to do a manual refresh. Also, it would be really nice if time-sensitive notifications for events that already happened would get cleared automatically. I can easily end up with 30+ suggested event notifications in the app for events that have already occurred. It's a lot of noise that drowns out what I might actually care about. Lastly, it would be great to be able to set a distance radius for suggested events. I live in a major metro area and sometimes events in my groups are close to me and other times they're 1.5+ hours away. Overall, a great app and service, but soon room for refinement..Version: 2023.6.2

Review and feature idea - requestHey y’all, I’ve never done an app review before but this has been on my mind every time I use this app for months now. Whenever I browse for events it feels like the list is bloated and searching becomes disincentivized by repetition. I’d like to see a feature which enabled blocking of groups to eliminate things you don’t like and free up the bloat within searching. Seeing the same things over and over whenever I pick it up has me not wanting to pick it up. It feels like fresh things are buried and I just am not appealed to read titles and scroll events I’ve seen every time I open this that id never care about. This app has given me good memories, albeit few, but all felt like lucky breaks and it’s felt very dry for very long for me for these reasons here. I’m here to put this review because I do care about seeing new life within this app and I’m curious about the receptiveness of its caretakers. Cheers friends and adventurers, strive to be great.Version: 8.0.20

Social fear? For me and my interests, I find very few people actually attend events. I see many members who join yet never attend. I don’t understand why they bother. It’s like online dating. They don’t want to actually socialize in person. Many international group organizers don’t reply to direct messages when I’m looking to meet people when I travel. Many groups seem to have disbanded yet the group is still on this platform. Many do not show active group meetings in years. There needs to be follow up on groups that are not active. I hear people use FB groups, however, I find most of those are just overloaded with advertising and it’s less social. Life in real- life just isn’t what it used to be and all these social platforms are just disappointing. The only place I find good groups are in large cities where the numbers are so high that the 1-5% that actually attend events make a decent turn out of people. I don’t attend many events I have an interest in because they start at ungodly hours like 6-9 AM. I don’t want to go anywhere at that hour of the day! I’m still in bed enjoying my morning coffee. I like to play during normal day time hours, during the week and not on weekends full of yah-whos. So I end up dropping out of many groups..Version: 2023.12.15

Won’t load!I have an iPhone 12 and Verizon but this app continually won’t fully load unless you have all bars and are standing under a cell tower with your phone held up. What that does is make it impossible to get a read on the event- if it doesn’t fully load, it sends you to a “you have no events” or “this page has been deleted or no longer exists” and you think the event is canceled, or it loads partially and does not give you a current attendance. If you try to rsvp it says it has a network error. This has happened for my first two events and so I deleted the app and now go straight to online. I almost missed the event this week because it partially loaded and showed only two attendees and really 9 were going. The ratings on this app Should be for the app, not the events. This app is the absolute worst. I will Probably quit meetup strictly because this is the most inconvenient and glitchy app. Please remove the reviews for events and just post the reviews for the app, so we know not to download it..Version: 2023.11.21

The app is dead😂😂😂😭😭😂.Version: 2023.12.15

Couldn’t join againMy connection was cut off and unfortunately I couldn’t join again. I have received a message that this group is locked and you can’t join again I think it’s a bug and it’s wrong..Version: 2023.12.15

Weird issuesApp is doing what is supposed to do (well most of the time) But couple of weird issues and not clear UX. My wife couldn’t create an account she tried with Apple ID and it simply broke, after redirection Meetup doesn’t log her in or display proper UI. More interestingly once she was able to access the UI and sent request to my group for me to never receive it… On my end I sometimes struggle with UX, changing group photo is so difficult why? Additionally after uploading the photos and cropping/rotating them they still appear wrongly rotated in the app. Last but not least the notifications doesn’t seem to deliver consistently. I was getting mail notifications before ones or app! Overall I am not that impressed. It’s an ok app that does its job, but not happy as the organiser to pay so much and have this subpar experience..Version: 9.0.7

Trying to sign up; can’t.Attempting to sign up for an account. Every sign up option I try “oops! There isn’t an account registered with that email address. Try a different account, or sign up.” I am TRYING to SIGN UP! Log in with google, apple, Facebook. All the same result. Bye, Felicia..Version: 2023.08.25

NOT HAPPY AT ALLNot sure my first review showed on here what I originally wrote so I’m re writing it again. So how interesting I made a new account on this app I’ve used this app for years when I was living in California I deleted this app and my first account years ago when I didn’t use it anymore and I just downloaded it again from my new email I now have so I’m a model who works in the industry referring to the entertainment industry and how ironic when I made a new account from a new email and redownloaded the app years later which is currently and now and the minute I made that new account which I never used I was immediately blocked from ever using the app when I literally didn’t do anything wrong or violate their policy rules that’s a form of discrimination. Doing that to people. I don’t know what their deal is but that’s absolutely unprofessional and disrespectful. I am not happy. I moved to Las Vegas recently wanting to use this app for fun again meeting people and I was immediately blocked the minute I made an account. Why?! That is beyond crazy and stupid. I am not happy and they ignored my emails intentionally after blocking me. why would you make an app for people to use that when you literally block them without telling them why when they did nothing wrong, how is that a professional or respectable business?.Version: 2023.6.9

Wrong instructions in App SupportApp Support instructions are wrong in many ways. Someone in support should try all the instructions on each supported platform and open work a work ticket for each error. One defect example is changing profile photo on IPhone where the instructions claim there is a workaround for the defect where changing the profile photo does not show the new photo on existing group memberships. It states each group can be changed individually but there is no way to do that. It states the profile photo is used on all groups that do not have an overriding photo but that is false because it just leaves all groups with the photo that existed before the profile photo was changed and there is not way on an iPhone to override a photo for a single group. Would write a new review but this one keeps coming up. Every release forgets my login then tells me my password is wrong and forces a reset of my account. Poor human factors design or maybe no human factors design and the implementation is just whatever accidentally get put in by random developers on the team. Needs done adult supervision in the development process..Version: 8.3.1

You can never leave. They will never leave you aloneNever give this app your email. I’ve unsubscribed at least 2 dozen times. They keep sending me emails . Bordering on harassment..Version: 2024.1.03

Tis ok.It’s alright. Lots of groups to choose from depending on your location is cool. The interface needs to be more intuitive. For instance, if I go to ‘notifications’ and click on a conversation someone has done on a post (not my post - works for that) I can’t like or comment. To do this I must find the group at the ‘home’ page, find the topic, etc. Utter nonsense. Finally, the app doesn’t rotate in landscape on an iPad. I didn’t check my iPhone..Version: 8.1.8

Room for ImprovementI appreciate the concept of Meetup, but my experience has been less than ideal for a few reasons. Firstly, the issue of too many RSVPs for an event makes it challenging to gauge who will actually attend. Implementing a way for hosts to limit attendance could enhance both cost-effectiveness and social dynamics. Additionally, the lack of time flexibility for event hosts has been inconvenient. Most events are scheduled late in the day, leading to long waits and disappointment after commuting. A broader range of event times would be beneficial for attendees. Furthermore, it seems that some hosts may struggle with making new connections or already have established friend groups, creating a selection bias. I wish Meetup would address this by providing more options and perhaps collaborating with other platforms like Eventbrite to offer a diverse range of events with attendance limits. Overall, there's potential for improvement to make Meetup more effective in fostering meaningful connections..Version: 2023.11.21

Clunky + Alert bugsFirst, this update has caused an insanely annoying bug where notifications won’t clear. Again! I hate having that red dot and so I’ve had to turn off notifications until it’s resolved again. There already was an issue where if you get one notification that you subscribe to, the number changes to include all alerts total and that includes the “suggested groups” that you can’t get rid of. Second, as many others have said, the U/I is not very user friendly. There is no way to make defaults to be for your groups instead of all groups in the area and search isn’t very easy to use either. As a site, and the reason for the 3 stars as opposed to 1, I do enjoy it. I like that I’m able to meet people with similar interests and likes. For the most part I use the site instead of the app because navigation is much easier and intuitive plus it feels more features are available that way..Version: 7.15

Doesn't send notifications of events registeredSends me lots of notifications i don't care about groups i have not joined..Version: 2023.12.13

Portrait only view...very impractical...not for tablet audience.I HATE this app for one very significant reason. It’s portrait only. Desktops, laptops, even TVs are landscape. I have a new 2019 iPad Pro 12.9” screen, with split screen capabilities, which I use a bluetooth keyboard with. Turning my device on it’s side, which isn’t even supported by most cases or stands, just to view the few apps that are only available in portrait mode is a huge inconvenience and disruption to my workflow. I hope this is not the case, but please understand, to iPad users it seems like the developer is cutting corners, or just taking the lazy way out by creating a one size fits all app, that they are designing the app for cell phone users only, forcing tablet users to use it on iPads/tablets with no regard for those user’s needs, instead of designing two separate versions for two different devices, and essentially, two different audiences. I’d love to use this app, because websites don’t always function predictably on mobile devices, but it’s too impractical. Without a portrait viewing option, you are potentially alienating an entire audience..Version: 8.1.0

The join button doesn't work! This would be a great app but for one problem - having found and joined groups of interest I tried to reply to an actual event to let the organiser know that I intend to go but the resultant pop up had no functioning submit button. It doesn't work, you cannot change this status. I tried to raise a ticket within the app's support page but after sending the problem, with a screenshot showing the non functioning pop up, the ticket was subsequently closed without reply and the problem not fixed. I raised a second ticket, same thing. So the app doesn't work and there seems to be no desire to respond and fix it..Version: 8.0.5

Needs a groups and Calendar viewThe app has a few critical flaws, it desperately Needs a groups and Calendar view! I miss out on events all the time because they are full, and when I get email well in advanced I have to use the web because the app can't isolate to a group view or a calendar view!! Also it sometimes does not show a price when there is a fee, there needs to be a Free vs Fee flag, with payment notes and links!! I really think Meetup is a great company, and I know that the new parent company is trying to make investments – the most critical should be software development for the platform, and just bringing it up-to-date – and figuring out a way to make stronger integrations with other platforms. it would be awesome to be able to use media and have video intros for a group video messages from the organizer, etc. etc. – they really just need to think of the mobile experience as a way to revitalize the company and the platform simultaneously..Version: 2023.09.8

Meetup app losing its appealBefore COVID, I went to Meetups a lot. However, since then the app has introduced advertising, a premium option for users (which they will probably railroad us users onto) and is prohibitively expensive for voluntary Meetup organisers, unless they have a nice fat corporate sponsorship. What about small non-profit clubs? Sad..Version: 2023.12.2

Worst update app ever! The new updated version of the meet up app is absolutely awful. I used to love the meetup app as it basically changed my life from almost becoming depressed, it got me out more and I made new friends and I started recommending it to everyone, however since the new update I can now barely use the app as its layout is dreadful, and hard to see at a quick glance events in each group. Furthermore I receive notifications of messages/comments 3 days later than when they were posted which means the communication levels on this app makes it virtually impossible to organise events which is what its meant to be all about. I strongly advise that the meet up app improves very soon based on the amount of 1 star ratings it currently has before the huge majority of its users leave meet up altogether and the word spreads round about how bad it is. Fix it and let's get meetup to become as successful as facebook and twitter are..Version: 8.0.9

Awful support and terrible rollouts of updatesIt seems like meetup does little testing when they do updates to their apps or web site. Key features suddenly disappear. This most recent time when I contacted support to tell them about a feature they disappeared from the apps, they told me to request it as a new feature. This makes no sense! It is not a nice to have feature. It is something that clearly must be functional. I feel like the people working in support have no idea how the app or platform work. It's so frustrating to use Meetup for my group..Version: 8.7.2

Terrible AppSeveral issues. The app crashes a lot, especially when I try to look at photos. I always see error messages—right now I am trying to see some events for groups I am a member of, but I am getting a message that the content is not available. Events are listed multiple times on the upcoming events section. The app doesn’t allow you to customize the push notifications you receive enough; for example I kept getting alerts every time there was a discussion in a group I’m a member of, which got annoying, so I had to turn off all push notifications from the group. When you look through events coming up, get out of the app, and come back, you have to start scrolling all the way from the beginning. I would like to be able to hide events from groups I don’t want to see. The app allows group organizers to put a so-called number of guests that are coming, which is often inflated by organizers to make it seem like more people are coming then there really are. A lot of the groups were created by club promoters in order to bring people to clubs and aren’t actually real groups. Meetup needs to crack down on groups that are using Meetup to promote clubs/people’s paid events. Like 30 grounds will all list the same event, and you have to scroll through all of that..Version: 8.1.0

Invasion of privacyThere is a difference between a platform which enables groups of people to gather vs dating app. If i wanted a dating app, i would join something more explicitly for dating. While I want to receive messages from people who go to events I have signed up for, i will not respond to private messages from unknown anonymous people who dont attend anything..Version: 2023.09.8

Littered with bugs and support is uselessThis app has so many bugs and has had for years. The platform is frequently down for maintenance and Meetup simply can’t get their act together. Furthermore if you try getting support from Meetup HQ as an organiser you will get a lousy meaningless response 2 weeks later at the earliest. When you follow up you get ignored. And god help you if you’re dealing with Olivia. She is useless and incompetent and doesn’t care about helping anyone. She a master gaslighter and too lazy to do her job properly. Either that or she just doesn’t care. Either way, the best thing Meetup can do is fire her!.Version: 9.0.2

Ok for members, coordinators, not yet.Easy for exploration and joining. Still needs some work for coordinators. Starting a group guidance could be clearer. I didn’t realize my preliminary group description and tags were to be published immediately upon approval. It would be nice to give a coordinator the option of deciding when to publish after approval. Could also make the iPad interface more easily maneuverable and manageable for coordinators. After a couple of weeks going in circles, finally deleted the app and went back to Safari. Better, but have some suggestions. Menu bars/options could be better organized. Members could be on one side bar with applicable menu items; and events could be on the other side. It would be nice to have option of msg board fixed to home page to see/reference along side discussions board. Unless new members know where this is hidden, the messages go unnoticed. Thanks for developing this app and continuing improvements..Version: 8.1.14

Damage place meet peopleIt is toxic app and people. It is safer to place Russian roulette. Full of bigotry and hate. I will never use again.Version: 2023.8.11

DisappointedHere on the Gold Coast in Australia, Groups on Meetup are not understanding the whole concept of Meetup. Members are abusing the events by RSVP to multiple groups on the same day. Therefore making the events not worth attending due to lack of numbers. Group organisers don’t enforce strict guidelines to attendees and events. Unfortunately all groups needs to enforce similar rules to ensure members understand the Meetup philosophy. Meetup HO management should outline to group organisers why Meetup was setup. Very disappointed that after all this time, this app has become all about the money and not why it was created..Version: 9.0.3

App is total rubbishI like meetup and what if offers, I’m an organizer myself of a couple of groups myself, but I have to say the app has always been a struggle. For some reason Ive stopped receiving any push notifications when group members message comment or join events which is a total nightmare. Even though I have enabled / subscribed to everything I possibly can to get them. The only way to check is to constantly go into the app and that’s not what you want to be doing when you’re in the middle of running an event. It seems like it’s impossible to contact support or they just make it really difficult for you. I will keep trying to find out how to get in touch with them….Version: 8.7.25

Dreadful latest updateBrilliant app that I’ve been using for years but since the last update I have to log in every 5 minutes. Despite being an organiser I have lost the organiser options as it keeps logging me out every time I click on something. For example, I tried to move someone from attending to no show today but no option to do that and when I tried to message them, it asked me to log in. Once I logged in it then returned me to the home page and going around the circles like that. If you’re going to update the app, update it with something that works.Version: 8.7

Good idea with terrible implementationNotifications desperately need more customization. Need an option to disable notifications for waitlists being available, “can you make”, “join us” etc - if I didn’t sign up on the first email then take the hint and stop pestering me! Also need to be able to ignore events / notifications from specific organizers within a group. Photos are incredibly annoying to look through and save. Stop trying to put words in my mouth when rating an event - just accept the star rating and leave it at that. And why is it that from an event page, I can share other events but not the event that I’m currently looking at? There are share buttons all over the app but somehow not in the most obvious place!.Version: 2023.08.25

Social proofing not socialisingCan no longer post comments either? So now it’s mandatory to select one of these ‘life stages’ to identify who you are: Recent Grad, Student, New in Town, New Empty Nester, New Parent, Newly Retired or Career Change????? So if you simply want to socialise, are single with no kids & haven’t retired, Meetup is not for you? It’s now also mandatory to add all your Socials?? It seems Meetup is more interested in social profiling than in socialising? Shame it was a good app once..Version: 2024.1.03

Too many malfunctionsDid the developers really try using your log in and forget password function? Having clicked the "reset password" button so many times, it didn't let me through without showing even one single message on why it was so. I had to wildly guess if there was something wrong with my new password or if it was a bug on this reset password page in general. After multiple times of trying, I managed to change the password. The new credentials did not work on the platform. I am sure I was on the log in page, not the sign up page. A pop-up window kept saying "oops, your email has been registered..." blah blah blah. This app sucks..Version: 2023.10.24

Spammer!Spams your notifications and you have no control over it. There are options to seemingly control the push notifications but they don’t do anything.Version: 2023.09.26

Best thing ever.Because I Recently moved to a new area with no friends or any idea were anything is, I cried many tears believing I had made a major mistake. Thank goodness for Meetup. It takes time to learn each groups rules and I have incurred a couple nasty people for breaking a rule I was not aware of. You can’t make a reservation and be late from work, or you are there but u don’t know them and they don’t know you so you are armed as a no show even though you pay for your membership in advance. I always try to be courteous and am willing to pay for a meal when I can’t find the location. I also got kicked out of a group for cancelling a happy hour when a close family member died unexpectedly. But those are only growing pains. These people go to a lot of work and time to make these opportunities available for us. I don’t fault them, I just wish they would treat new members as a new customer to their business. I have met some of the nicest people. The app is great but it crashes on my phone every time. The software seems to be excellent and I have been making some nice friends. It’s a 10 in my book and am so thankful it is available. Much better way to meet other singles than a dating site..Version: 9.0.14

No Apple PayDoesn’t support Apple Pay, PayPal powered payments only which is frequently broken..Version: 2023.11.21

New app is unusableFor what it's worth I find the newly launched app very challenging to navigate and pretty much unusable. The old app worked great and things were where you expected them to be. This new app has me adding myself to groups without knowing it because I mistakenly touch the wrong place on the screen. I can't find things when I'm looking for them. I can barely find how to message. I click into my group looking for a list of upcoming events but only see details of the next event. Additionally, I find myself clicking things multiple times to get links to respond. Also, we still can't upload multiple photos at once which was my number one peeve with your old app. Definitely not a fan of this new app. The old one worked really well. Why not just make that one better? This new app is a huge step backwards. 2018 update - the app is still unusable! I'm a programmer by day who can now barely find the list of upcoming events for my Meetup groups. Before there was a very obvious button which showed all upcoming events. Why is that gone? Isn't that the main reason to have this app? Also, the photo uploading process is still just terrible. This new app is a huge step backwards. I wish you guys had fixed the issues with the old app instead of rebuilding it into something we can barely navigate or use. 2021 update - Uploading photos is still so buggy! Constant errors while trying to upload multiple photos. The error is generic and offers no direction to fix the problem..Version: 8.7.2

WeWork: WarningWeWork, the soon-to-be-bust office rental group purchased MeetUp a year ago. They have introduced charges and increased existing group-owner charges. Charging people to exchange information and to arrange groups on what is basically a glorified forum application outrageous. I can’t wait for WeWork to finally go bust so we can return MeetUp to what it was before: a simple and decent group organisation app that didn’t try extract money from those often most unable to afford to do so. Update: SoftBank have just pulled out of purchasing WeWork, unsurprisingly. I genuinely see WeWork going bust. We need an alternative to Meetup in the event this happens, as it may disappear overnight. If you’re an open-source programmer reading this please take note and help the effort for an alternative NOW!.Version: 8.1.16

Needs work.Interface and navigation is still confusing, needs some simplification. For one, make “Discovering New Groups” it’s own section or something. At one point I had two different searches going in that between the “Home” and “Explore” tabs. Very confusing trying to figure out where I was and trying to get back. Also maybe consider unifying the Notifications tab at the bottom into the Chat & Messages button/section. That’ll give you space for a new button or section in the future. — COMPLAINTS: the app tends to just lock up randomly, won’t respond to any touch inputs, very frustrating. And the search function itself tends to be a joke. I search for “muscle cars” to try and find an automobile group nearby, and the results I get are for a Writers Group, and Environmental Action Group, a HAM Radio Group, and a Weekly Movie Discussion Group. What the heck does any of that have to do with cars??.Version: 2023.6.9

Unable to verify accountI had been using this as a guest and decided to make an account. That was easy, however when I went to verify my account I was unable to. It wanted me to do a captcha and said I’d only have to do it once. It proceeded to make me do three of them and then at the end it blocked my account because my gmail is apparently a spam email address because their website didn’t work. I will change my review if support is able to fix this. Other than this the app has been fine. I was told it was my IP address but after they deleted my account I tried again and I was still blocked because my email address is on their list of spam email addresses now. I gave up and just used another one of my emails to sign up. I wish I had been warned that a VPN and/or custom filters can screw up account verification; I would have turned both off when I was verifying..Version: 9.0.21

WHY IS IT IN JAPANESE??!I’m in Glasgow and am trying to find some local events and then I found the website “meet up” so I downloaded it from (uk!!) App Store. Then It Appears In Japanese!!! It took me 10 minutes to find out what each line means ( e.g. what’s the difference between ログインand 登陆in Japanese), and when I’ve finally entered the correct(I’m pretty much sure I enter it correctly for I know a little bit of Japanese and I spent 10 minutes looking up my dictionary) detail for each blank, It Just Didn’t Work!! The app just stuck there and won’t let me proceed. Again, Why Japanese?!! There’s nothing about Japanese with my phone! It was purchased in China and the SIM card is from the uk. What has it to do with Japan?!! And I myself have nothing to do with Japan too! I’ve never been to Japan. Japanese is my fourth language( I can’t even make a proper self introduction in Japanese) and I don’t even have a pixiv account! !.Version: 9.0.2

Troublesome!Unfortunately this app is very troublesome recently. People are finding it impossible to see the messages in Event Chat. For a couple days we couldn’t get into the app at all. Please fix it so it is the great app it used to be!.Version: 2023.6.28

Invasion of PrivacyMost groups require you to answer very personal questions in order to screen your intentions. That’s okay. But your answers are available to the public. This is a security flaw if any of the answers are siphoned to steal a person’s identity. It could also have negative implications for something like when employers are searching for ways to determine who they think you are. For instance, if I wish to join a group for people with disabilities, forcing me to divulge what kind of disability I have in order to join the group is a violation of my rights according to the ADA and also tells the world what is wrong with me since the answers are public. Now a potential employer knows I have autism and may choose to not hire me. And yes this was a question in a high functioning autism group I tried to join. They wanted to know what my diagnosis was. Along with a warning that the answer would be public. The solution to this invasion of privacy is to only allow creators of the group access to answers..Version: 8.6.2

Requires full calendar permissionsThe Meetup app does not allow you to add events to your calendar unless you grant them FULL permission to read your entire calendar!! If you have the permissions set to “Add Only”, trying to add an event directly to your calendar or have it done automatically just doesn’t work - nothing happens. Meetup folks - you do not need full calendar permissions to add events, there’s a type for that that the devs need to change to use!! — and now support want me to create a ticket. There’s a bug in your app that you are now aware of - go create a ticket for that or risk more people rating and not using it….Version: 2024.1.03

What happened to the LGBTQ+ category? There used to be a category and now it's impossible to find any LGBTQ+ groups. My city is already tough enough to meet people and now I can't find any groups at all that I want to join. It makes Meetup pretty useless. Even searching keywords or acronyms give no results. Such a shame after I made friends through Meetup in my last city..Version: 8.7.15

Suggestion popups are starting to get in the wayI have used Meetup for years, but I was repeatedly opening and closing the app three times in a row to get rid of popup suggestions to get Meetup plus, start a new group, and participate in some kind of contest. They all had that tiny X button and giant “sign me up” button and I didn’t want to play an impromptu Action video game trying to peck the little X when I don’t know the consequences of missing that small touch point. After going through the popups, the most prominent thing was some more AI suggestions rather than my groups. After that, I got the popup to review the app which I am doing now. It would be a lot less intrusive if the app could be like before where you can get in, check your groups, and close it in less than 5 seconds. As for suggestions, have them in an area so I can check out the new features and similar on my terms, rather than the app preventing me until I see them. For example, LinkedIn at least puts the suggestions off in an area in the messages, and you need a button click to see them rather than the UI blocking pop up..Version: 2024.1.03

Julissa from customer service is not doing her job!I have emails that I clearly stated for Julissa to apply the discount that meet up is offering the organisers because of the extreme situation we are living because covid 19 but she hasn’t and not the full amount has been taken from the account and the offer hasn’t been applied! The email and the bottom of the invoice says please reach help center because this email is not being monitored. In Yelp center no one is helping I reached fb and Instagram ages to see who is helping! A total disgrace in Thai times where we organisers believe in you! You have such a pathetic people in charge! I’ll keep emailing and posting in social media until you do your job!!.Version: 8.2.4

Notifications don’t workI enjoy using meetup but it’s quite frustrating that I don’t get notifications most of the time. If I do get a notification, it’s highly likely it’s from a group I’ve turned off notifications for. I’m organiser of a group and pay a lot of money for this and it’s disappointing I can’t get my notifications when I should..Version: 2023.10.24

Ummm, wow…I downloaded the app because the website is so broken. It froze when trying to log in. I had to close the tab and start over. Then it wouldn’t load my profile picture correctly, it kept putting it sideways, no matter how many times I told it to rotate it. Then, when browsing for a group, the page wouldn’t display correctly and stopped responding to clicks. So, after fighting the broken website I came to the App Store to grab the app, only to find that they don’t have one for iPad, so I get a tiny iPhone app on my iPad, making it that much more difficult to work with, but at least it let me properly upload a profile picture… the second time I tried. The first time it glitched on me and removed the picture I already had without replacing it with my new one. I first started using Meetup about 10 years ago, so it’s very disappointing that both the app and website have so many problems. These issues are something I might expect from a small startup, but not from Meetup. The only reason I’m giving 3 stars is because, if you can get past the numerous bugs, Meetup is a great way to connect with people who have similar interests. I actually just adjusted my review to 2 stars because I’m so sick of the barrage of emails. Dozens per day. It’s ridiculous. I’ve now completely turned off email notifications and will likely not use this app much. I’ve found Facebook groups to be a lot easier to use..Version: 8.7.27

It’s not free.....You think you are going to connect with moms/teachers/loners but you have to pay first........Version: 8.5.11

Organisers App is pretty pointlessCreating an organisers app that only has flaws and no benefit was a bad idea and one that should have been made in consultation with the meetup community. The organisers app is unstable at best of times and it does not provide one single benefit to organisers. Very occasionally you implement new features like the check in function but because the app is unstable, it does not support new features. The tech team cannot replicate the issue and so there is no solution, not great. So even though theoretically good features may be possible, they are not made available. Also, my events are free, I only charge maintenance fees to pay for the meetup page and you now started charging £0.60 on top of the £1.50 fee that I am charging. I think that is pretty bad considering that there is no additional service provision from your side to justify that as I am already paying the meetup fees. All in all, meetup has really made a change to the worst over the last two years. I wish there was another forum that I could use instead. My community is pressing me to move them somewhere else..Version: 2023.11.09

Fun community, terrible appI love going to Meetups and even started organizing them. The app however is really bad. It feels like their Product Managers must just look at engagement metrics and never actually use the app themselves. If you change your RSVP to an event, you will still be notified and cannot remove yourself from the event chats. If I’m no longer going, why would I want to stay in the chat!?! I also want to limit the ridiculous number of notifications I receive after joining a lot of groups and instead of having a simple way to turn off all notifications of one type, I need to go to each individual group and select which notifications to toggle on/off. Why in the world do they not have a universal option to toggle those settings on all groups? While these are just a couple of the Quality of Life issues I’ve run into, I also run into bugs on a regular basis where my events/groups/profile do not load correctly for a period of time. I’d recommend just using the website for now..Version: 9.0.16

Painfully poor - hides the groups I wantThis is pants - it forces me to input a location and will only show stuff in that location - ignoring that I currently live in one place, commute to another and am moving somewhere else in a few months. Then if I search for (eg) Wordpress, it comes up with masses of subtopics, you have to choose which specific ones you want (no idea! Just show me anything Wordpress related in the area I’m searching). So when it finally takes me to show me groups in my area, the Wordpress group doesn’t come up at all. It’s hidden! Yet I can find it in seconds if I simply Google ‘Wordpress Meetup Bournemouth’. But from Google etc I can’t add it to the app. Really pants!!! :-(.Version: 8.0.19

Socially irresponsibleWith the current pandemic and Canada shutting down even national parks to stem the gathering of people (sadly some people require enforcement and will not isolate on their own) I feel if is irresponsible for the meetup app to not be temporarily shut down for a couple months. There are people still posting events!.Version: 8.1.16

Opening up a world of opprtunityMeetup is the antidote to our sadly individualistic consumer culture and lives full of busy nothingness. Today I met 5 strangers, shared and adventure and lots of laughs. With the support of the group I took risks and pushed myself further in a morning than I would in a month on my own. Whoever created meetup - what a contribution to societal and individual wellbeing. You deserve the Nobel prize for social innovation!!!.Version: 8.2.5

Settings don’t workI want ability to turn off app notifications about new groups + only be informed of new groups via email..Version: 2023.09.18
