Pocket Light Meter for Positive User Reviews

Sweet and suitVery good app, just I would like try the pay one and see the pro features.Version: 8.2

Very HandySince we all have smart phones that takes metered pictures, why carry a light meter when you're shooting film.Version: 9.3.3

Perfect!Looks a too much like a slot machine but works fine and gives a record of your readings. Very nice..Version: 8.3.1

NiceI suspect it doesn't work as well in low light as a good meter, and I don't have the option of a lumo sphere for incident light, but it's handy, I have this on my phone, and it is a useful standin as I haven't got a proper meter..Version: 7.0

Very useful!Very Smart app! It doesn't give only useful data for photography but also the lux on the surface! It is the first time I found it!.Version: 0

Pocket Light MeterAlways reliable readings that match my Canon cameras readings - better and handier than an expensive Sekonic. Would like to see a flash version and totally do without the Sekonic.Version: 9.0

FabulousI love this, V! Works great!.Version: 0

Best appNot only the most impressive but now my favourite app perfect for using along with hasselblads and other film cameras, so surprised at its performance can easily exposure well enough, a few tweaks in photoshop and no one would guess you used a free iPhone app instead of a £200 light meter !.Version: 8.1

Seems to be working well!I'm using a Canonet in manual mode without the meter and my photos have turned out great. I wish you could lock the selected shutter or aperture though..Version: 9.3.3

Brilliant!Works just as described - no more compliments necessary.Version: 6.0

Cool appCool app, especially with the luxi sphere. However, has anybody noticed that in very low light, the light from the phone screen bleeds onto the luxi sphere… which obviously alters the metering. It’d be better if the interface had a black background — like the touchscreen Sekonic for example (or at least a « low light interface » option). Other than that, great app! Thanks!.Version: 9.3.3

FANTASTIC.Incredibly accurate, easy to use, functional and (most definitely) not as expensive as a real light meter!!! I have used this app for medium format photography, and every photo is perfectly exposed. I've also tested the app against a real light meter and it hit the same settings every time. I cannot recommend this app enough! Cudos to the developer!.Version: 8.2

Useful and AccurateSince losing my built-in Pentax light meter to old age, this tool has proven to be extremely useful! When I developed my photos they looked great thanks to this app. There have been some improvements to the look of the app lately which deserves a pint to the developer. I'm looking forward to future improvements, new features, perhaps a lock for fstop / speed so they would bounce around so much..Version: 8.4

Nice appSeems to work very well.Version: 8.3.1

What? Its brilliant it really is although in low light it can get confused but on a phone which isn't designed as a light meter it is excellent and for those who are moaning c'mon it's free what more do you want. A lot of things in photography are not really the best looking things in the work but it does the job and does it well just like this app..Version: 7.0

Good app & handyHave searched for light meter apps and this appears to be the best. Compared readings against a dedicated Sekonic electronic meter and appears to give accurate results! If you add the right thickness of white translucent acrylic sheet (approx 4mm thick) over the camera lens you even use it as a fairly accurate Lux meter!.Version: 5.2

So goodI seriously love this app; I use it for pinhole stuff... One thing, I wish you'd make it look a bit better. I know it's more about functionality but, you know! Still a 5 star app though. It's never let me down..Version: 8.4

Works as intendedGood app—is there a way to have logged images go into their own album? Bit tiresome to look through all photos to archive these. Otherwise works great, very useful tool..Version: 9.5

Replaces my Sekonic Light Meter and Polaroid Back!Best photography app I have ever encountered! I bought the chap two pints!! Thanks for removing the ads. Upgrade wish list: Histogram and a fully Manual Mode. Would be grand if I could place the focal point over a grey card, set f stop and Exposure as desired and see a histogram, rather than fumble around trying to find the Zone placement I desire by tapping various parts of the scene till the values fall where I want them. This takes a bit of time in scenes with wide variation in light and shadow. Otherwise this app has been a tremendous boon! I have done tests against my Sekonic meter with consistent results. And logging the scene with metadata affords me similar luxury of making Polaroid proofs while simultaneously recording metadata. Kudos!.Version: 9.5

Practical, handy, easy to use and - IT WORKS !This is one of the better iPhone apps. I have an old Stereo Realist manual 3D camera and I've become reasonably proficient at guessing the correct exposure. However I still stuff-up about 20% of shots. I've just downloaded and tested Pocket Light Meter. Its definitely going to help..Version: 4.5

Nice update!I'm happy to see that the developer put time and effort to make this app great again! It is still the best app of its kind out there. Back to 5 stars!.Version: 9.4

Very good , j'aime beaucoupI did test few times with my sekonic L358 pretty close, usefull with non electronic lenses ( babylens).Version: 8.3.1

Invaluable!I started using this app a few years ago as a “Hail Mary” during a shooting session on film when I had forgotten a light meter. This performed so well once the film was developed that I sold my light meter. When I started shooting video a year later, I continued using this to keep me grounded while shooting LOG. Accuracy is dead on, even compared to the high end meters on the market. Truly an amazing and clever use of our little pocket supercomputers..Version: 9.5

Counting photonsNot quite yet. On the good side - measures exposure correctly (like a real light meter) so one can use it for the zone system. Spot metering by taping on the screen helps a lot. Settings are practical. On the other side - just getting rid of the adds (for $1.99) doesn't last if application is reinstalled. Probably one needs to buy the author a beer (for $5.99) to get rid if the adds permanently.. The worst part is once you get rid of the adds, the field where the adds were is like a blind spot - you cannot place the cursor there for spot metering. I think the only serious restriction of this application. Overall, great App - five stars..Version: 9.3.3

Great lightmeterLove this app! I still shoot film and this is a great light meter!.Version: 8.3.1

Light MeterExcellent performance! Accurate enough for Zone System. I'm using Light Meter with a Fuji GSW690III FP4+ in HC110 (b) and find it really easy to use the ISO numbers to add 1 and 2/3rds stop equivalent for the orange filter. The results are exactly as I hoped for. A nice "touch" is that you simply touch the image on the screen on any areas that you wish to check the exposure without moving the iPhone so you can take several spot readings at once..Version: 8.2

Great!Just awesome sometimes need to take a few readings to be accurate..Version: 8.4

Excellent kitI have used this app for over 3 years now and found it to excellent in allowing me to set up a large number of shots.Version: 9.5

Awesome featuresThe journal like function allowing you to take notes and a picture is super handy putting it above other apps..Version: 9.5

Works wellAccurate and inexpensive, and you always have it with you.Version: 9.4

Pocket Light MeterGreat reliable app. Just used this for a whole film & they all came out great.Version: 8.3.1

Very UsefullExcellent app.Version: 5.2

BenantFantastic! As accurate as a hand held meter!! Has everything you need. Highly recommended..Version: 8.1

Does a great job !It seems likes it’s giving me the same ratings as my camera’s rating which is great. My only problem is that I don’t know if it is metering the whole image or just that square... it gets a bit confusing at times.Version: 9.5

Brilliant app.I can’t believe the poor reviews about this app. It’s brilliant. I’ve used it for a long while, before they improved it when they added the colour temperature meter to it which made it even more useful. I use it with my Leica M9 and it’s spot on!.Version: 9.3.3

Even better !Very handy if you've forgotten your "real" meter. or I suppose great if you want to learn about exposure. I shoot in manual all the time so it's a decent app , and seems fairly accurate. The update has made a big difference to its operation. Brill app and very accurate..Version: 8.3.1

Great AppI have a sekonic light meter as well, this app does the job just as well, sometimes a stop, but there is a huge price difference between the two Meters, but so handy as well..Version: 8.2

Very impressedHeard about this app on TFTTF podcast with Chris Marquardt. I am using an old manual FED 2 camera to shoot B&W. this app has made my images more accurate and my keep rate has doubled..Version: 8.2

Updated.App has now just been updated so it works with the latest IOS. Was working fine but started crashing a few days ago when IPhone updated. Now works perfectly again. I like it so much I just paid the $1.19 to get the ad free version..Version: 5.1

Spot onFinally a spot meter for zone photography. Would suggest adding a zone scale and a meter reading save feature that you can place on the scale. With the ability to place in whatever zone you want -( ie be able to get a shadow reading and a highlight reading and place) looking forward to calibrating! Great work here!!.Version: 9.5

Great meterWorks fairly well. I wish there was a setting to lock multiple settings. I shoot film, so my ISO is fairly constant and my f is set to the field I want. It would be great if there was no auto light exposure for shutter speed so I could see what the image would be like, under or over exposed, before I take a shot and waste a dollar of film. Is this possible with an iPhone? Thanks again for the great app. I'm thankful..Version: 9.0

Light meterVery good app as accurate as my L508 but smaller. Besides my light meter is bulkier and can't make phone calls..Version: 0

Most Useful AppThis is a great application and truly useful when you find yourself needing important exposure measurements ... this is a very accurate measurement device and learning how and where to take the light measurements is very important for getting the perfect exposure ... two thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻 and five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.Version: 9.5

Perfect for on the go light meteringI still shoot on my Yashica Electro 35 still camera. I use this to help me meter my photos. I think this is great for what it is. Aperature, film speed and shutter time is all selectable. You can log your readings in case you need to reference them later on..Version: 9.3.3

GreatAwesome app. Meters light on par with all specialist metering tools. If you shoot film, and there's a few going that way, over the digital overload of info, it's a must have!.Version: 9.3.3

Very handyVery handy. I do a lot of outdoor travel photography and it’s been nice to have this in my pocket. I’ve used it in a few professional shoots as well. Highly recommended..Version: 9.5

Easy and Simple! This app is quite good! I test it during the day and evening and it works quite well. I also tested the Kelvin temperature in the app with my Nikon D750 and it did the job nicely. I will definitely be using this for my film and digital camera for sure!.Version: 9.5

Light MeterIt’s a great app, and very good in low light. But it’s frustrating that I can’t load it as a short cut on my iPhone SE (old model). Could anything be done about this please?.Version: 9.5

Not bad at all!Although others had left good reviews for this, I was still a little sceptical. I shoot medium format transparencies so exposure needs to be pretty much spot on. I used this for the first time last week whilst shooting landscapes in Derbyshire, had the slides developed a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised! The only downside is that it reverts to defaults and you have to select sone settings again and again. Other than this, a great little app..Version: 0

Application très pratiqueApplication très pratique qui permet de faire l'évaluation rapide d'une situation photographique. Difficile de s'en passer dans certaines circonstances!.Version: 8.4

A must have app!I use this app when I go out shooting with my film cameras. It does an excellent job. The best light meter app on the app store hands down..Version: 8.1

GreatThis is a very handy money saving app.Version: 8.2

This light meter is awesomeIt seems to be pretty accurate. I love this app. It'll tell you what values to use for for your camera. It displays your light in kelvins so you can set it to the correct white balance. You can hold the image with the values and even save it. So helpful. This guy deserves a pint..Version: 9.3.3

Great for taking controlSimple to use! Extremely useful when you are in manual mode on your camera and you want to know the settings for a specific area of the shot! Have no hesitation in giving 5/5.Version: 8.2

We conceived, well executedA fine product which provides a wide range of useful information in a clear intuitive interface..Version: 9.4

Quite usefulThere are apps that are an EV meter and others that perform the F-stop / shutter speed calculation. This app combines both quite well. The log is useful to reference with the photos you take using your manual camera. The user interface can be improved a bit which is why I didn't rate it 5 stars. Thank you for this app. Nice work!.Version: 9.3.3

It worksI've tried all the lightmeter apps and this is the only one that works. I mean I wouldn't turn up to film a Peter Jackson movie with it, it was showing around a third of a stop compared to a cinematographers reading, but great to use with and old manual film camera..Version: 4.3

Simple and accurateI’ve been using this app for quite a while and my exposures have always seemed accurate. As other reviews mentioned, it would be nice to see an updated interface, but at least there are no annoying ads..Version: 9.5

Lightmeter appThis is the best photo app I know. I especially like the return to the old controls in the update. Very accurate. Now I'm never without a lightmeter..Version: 8.1

A useful toolThis app is useful for cameras that don’t have a light meter. Don’t overlook the log feature. Being able to add a note is also very useful. I’m not aware of the angle of view fir the metered light. It would be useful to be able to change that to match the focal length of the lens used. Otherwise very nice!.Version: 9.5

Allows me to shoot cameras with no light meterI’ve used this app to shoot medium and large format cameras that have no light meter of their own, and I get accurate results. Even if your film camera has a light meter, you should use this app just for the convenient logging feature; shoot a digital photo of the film photos take, and write down any pertinent notes that’ll be helpful later (exposure, location, etc)..Version: 9.4

My Go ToBeen using this app for years both on and off professional sets. Reliably does exactly what It needs to do.Version: 9.5

ExcellentBought initially as a bit of an experiment, but now Use it as a cross- reference for meter readings on a Nikon F4S which I still occasionally use for Elite Chrome colour transparencies, and off-camera with a Nikon D300 when in doubt. The results are good given the excellent metering capabilities of both cameras. Recommended..Version: 8.1

Works well generallyWish I knew more clearly if this was a spot meter, center weighted, average, etc meter. I THINK it is a spot meter? Would be cool to know for sure. Would be even more cool to switch between different type of metering.Version: 9.5

Dual purpose light meterI own a Pentax spot meter and have found that this light meter works surprisingly well in a pinch for photography. I also like to try to grow some veggies like tomatoes from seeds. This light meter helps me find the ideal lighting available like ~5500k or ~2700k so I can help my plants to grow or produce fruit..Version: 9.3.3

Great light meter!Superb little app, shows just about the field of view for my old screw-mount Leica 50mm standard lens, so really useful and my test-film was perfectly exposed. Top marks!!.Version: 8.1

Awesome but latest update???This app really works, it is only a 1/3 of a stop out when compared to a professional light meter! But i just updated it to the lastest and for some reason it is not working? Like its frozen our somthing? Please fix asap as this is the best app in my phone!.Version: 5.1

Very goodIt does a good job.Version: 9.4

Awesome free appWorks like it should. Accuracy is within approximately 1/3 - 1/2 stop compared to what I get on most cameras. I use this on old ones that do not have meter built in. Couldn't be happier.Version: 8.1

Gold Star 5 StarsI've just broken my light meter (don't ask!) and needed one right now, on a whim I put light meter into the App Store and this one stood out. Okay I've only used it for this shoot but I have to say really very well done to the developer. I take note of others saying about low light so reserve judgement there but so far in my studio it's perfectly accurate. I work fast and move from one thing to another fast I need light readings to get me started and then I adjust around them and move on. Well done buddy when I do my expenses you will be getting your 5 bucks for that pint!!!!.Version: 8.3.1

GoodI use it often and it works well..Version: 9.5

A must haveVery handy and can be a great tool when you don't have anything else with you. If you are a professional photographer then you'll have your light meter but in case you need a quick read this app will be your save!.Version: 8.1

Great productA very handy feature to have along on a trip for photographs!!.Version: 8.3.1

Excellent app, cannot fault and it does everything an expensive model canI was looking to purchase a light meter since getting better at photography. I looked for apps for iPhone photography apps and saw this. What a fantastic tool, brilliant and exactly what we need. Very easy, exceptionally accurate and so handy. Well done.Version: 8.1

Nailed the metering for every photo on my RolleiflexAmazing.Version: 8.3.1

Works like a charmI’ve used this app shooting 35mm and medium format film in both studio and natural light. It is consistent and spot on every time. Highly recommended..Version: 9.5

Paid to upgrade, BUT..... please change the app icon. It's so bad and not in a good way. Every time I see the icon on my home screen it make me feel nauseous..Version: 9.3.3

Invaluable appVery useful for me in doing my work in the film, photo & video business, this app has saved me a considerable amount of splashing out on a meter, it does the job every time, thank you guys for considering people like me, you have saved me time, money & space in my kit, respect!!!!.Version: 8.1

Handy and accurateVery useful in almost all photographic situations!.Version: 8.3.1

Light meterI use this light meter constantly. I shoot a lot on old film cameras and having a light meter in my phone helps immensely..Version: 9.5

Easy and convenientBeing able to adjust compensation to match my other meters and gear is fantastic, been using this for nearly a year, great for getting an idea what to expect before pulling all the gear out..Version: 8.2

FunctionalDoes what it says on the tin, and does it remarkably well, which is why it gets the four stars. As a few people have pointed out already, the interface is not great (not even good to be honest) but as long as it gets the job done I can live with that! The ads are irritating too, though you can apparently get rid of them with an in-app purchase. I say apparently because despite trying to do so (with the more expensive "get rid of ads and buy developer a pint" option - that's how useful I find it,) iTunes won't allow the transaction to complete..Version: 7.0

It simply works !!Look, it is as easy as this, this app works fine, but be aware that all light meters demand intelligent use. Point a meter at any illuminated scene and the meter will give you the numbers to achieve 15% grey. Read how to books and use this app to achieve what YOU want..Version: 8.1

A nifty tool for the film photographer! It is FANTASTIC. It is an indispensable little app that has saved me £200 plus on buying a light meter for my film photography with my Leica M3. It matches the light readings I have in my DSLRs, and it's obviously always in my pocket. There's the added bonus of it recording your aperture/shutter speed AND a photo 'of' your photo. I've dispensed with the ads and bought the developer a pint. I urge you to do the same!!.Version: 8.0

White balance feature is the best! Most of us do not need a handheld light meter, because today’s cameras have great built-in meters. However, the auto white balance can leave a lot to desire. Use the white balance feature of this app to get great color rendition under any natural lighting condition. Get the WB, enter it into your camera and you are set..Version: 9.5

Vintage film shooters godsendWorks a dream for those of us shooting vintage film gear with no integral light meter or a meter with no spot function. Calibrated with my sekonic meter and 7d in spot mode and it works perfectly. I would love to be able to switch between spot and a average metering modes - but still great as is..Version: 5.2

Cellphone light meterI really like this light meter; however, l wish that l could also take a picture when using the light meter..Version: 9.5

Works like a charmThe Update has made this an indispensable app for all want to be photographers out there.Version: 0

Great appMatches my lightmeter to within less than half a stop. Quick to use, good interface, good options for readout. Love it!.Version: 8.3.1

Always with you..... easy to use .... fun to use .... and trustable.Version: 8.3.1

Nice appDoes a pretty decent job, considering you are on an iPhone. Next to a professional sekonic light meter I found it to be within 1/3-2/3 of a stop accurate in most conditions. And you can calibrate it if it's consistently over/under.Version: 0

Light meter does what says! Great appI didn't expect much from a little free app using the iPhone's hardware but it matches the reading of my DSLR. Very happy with its performance. Thank you..Version: 8.1

Damn good.A big help to Am. & Pro. photogs alike..Version: 8.1

Very useful appThis is an interesting app because it gives the light reading and geotags the photo to show exactly where the photo was taken. It would be an unreserved 5 stars if it were possible to add additional notes while out and about so that place names and notes about the location. This would be invaluable using a camera on location..Version: 8.2

Don't think just getGreat app that is really easy and just works. I use it for my yashica lynx 14 and it works great! Awesome exposures all the time!.Version: 8.3.1

Useful tool with vintage SLR camerasI love using it with cameras of mine that don't have built in light meters. Rough readings are all I need and this app does them well..Version: 8.1

Amazing!Such a great tool when shooting large format film. I use it regularly and enjoy it thoroughly. I am very appreciative of the app developer. It was totally worth paying for no ads as well! Keep up the great work!.Version: 9.3.3

Pretty SweetGr8 and simply to use. Rely on this meter then any other apps. Would like to them to come up with a lux meter as well.Version: 9.0

En lightening...Its ok, generally out by 2/3 of a stop but hey so what! Compared against a Sekonic, so a little discrepancy is fine. Lets face it you would not be using this unless you were stuck without a real light meter, and its going to be better than most old selenium cell meters. Its easy to read, and it is free, fill your boots..Version: 8.1

Works brilliantlyThis app is so useful. Works exceptionally well and always give me good exposures. The ability to save a picture of the exposure reading has really helped with college work! A must have for any photography student..Version: 8.2

Great free photography appI recently undertook a camera tuition day so I could learn to be more confident shooting in manual. The instructor recommended this app and compared it to an expensive stand alone light meter and they were identical. I am now using it all the time and can't fault it..Version: 8.1

Works for meIt’s a great light meter ap. Do a lot of live studio work. The LD tells me its OK your meter tells me he’s right. For my purposes it’s all it needs to be..Version: 9.5

Wonderful App. I love itLearning to use my Canon G15 camera in manual mode. Really usefull to find the good setting for beautiful pictures. I warmly recommand..Version: 8.3.1

PhotographerA very useful act to measure the light in a specific area of a scene without having to approach the subject. Best with available light..Version: 8.3.1

Solid and reliable for yearsGreat for a quick check, and I especially like using it to compare with other meters. Log your info on location by taking a screenshot and using the built-in Markup feature to add text and type the location name..Version: 9.5

Perfect appI would never have though of ever using a phone to get light readings. I get some really funny looks when people/clients seer talking on the phone them take a reading..Version: 4.4

Love it!!!!.Version: 4.5

Pocket magicLove having this app on the phone. Good for confirming me guesstimate on exposure and very handy having the photo option to remember the settings and photographed scene..Version: 8.1

Light MeterAll too often I leave my expensive light meter in the other camera bag. This App has saved me more times than I can remember. If only my memory worked as well. Is there an App for that?.Version: 8.3.1

Awesome photo appThis app is sooo handy. I always have my iPhone with me but not my light meter. Pretty accurate , usually bang on with camera reading and when it's not I go with the app..Version: 8.3.1

Love it has many usesA reviewer stated above that is is a reflective light meter and you can just use your camera light meter. Well as I use a 1904 box brownie and a 1920's folding brownie for most of my photography this is invaluable as my cameras do not have light meters. I compared this app's results to the one I got with my two light meters and it shows the same values so a fantastic app that I use all the time and I no longer carry a separate light meter when shooting. A must have for vintage and classic camera users..Version: 5.2

The best..Outstanding performance and so easy to use...Version: 9.5

Love itThis app has become invaluable to me when shooting film. My shots are correctly exposed and look fantastic--there's no need to spend $$ on a meter..Version: 9.3.3

The Best…..so farThis is really the best iPhone Exp Meter available. The only thing holding back the 5 star rating is the cheesy font and background in the logged photos. Needs modernization and a few graphic interface improvements. Adding the ability to assign Hold and Log buttons using the iPhone up and down volume buttons would make this a killer app. Please keep developing this app and hopefully add the button feature..Version: 9.5

Close to perfectionThis light meter is very precise in normal light conditions. A very handy substitute to a professional light meter..Version: 9.5

Note from developerI am the developer of this application. The problem with black screen is an unexpected compatibility issue with iOS 4.1. I have already fixed it, the update is waiting for approval from Apple. The update will be published in about a week. Meanwhile, you can try to restart your phone; it helps in 90% of the cases. Another workaround is trying to restart the application alone. To do so you have to press the home button to see the home screen. Then press the home button twice (like double-click) to have a list of currently running applications to slide in from the bottom of the screen. At this point you should see PLM icon on the list. Press and hold that icon until a red circle with minus sign appears in the top corner of the icon. Press that circle, and the application will be terminating. Restarting the application helps sometimes. The permanent fix is ready, it is with Apple, it will be published in about a week..Version: 0

Good to play withA nice application to play with. My first impression is that the shown results are out. I will need to test a little more. One function would be useful - if there is a standby mode to capture a flashlight……may a little to ask for free. I work a lot with flash and I would happy to pay a small fee for the little extra.Version: 7.0

Useful and handyIt’s a good app. It’s too bad I forget to use it MORE OFTEN!! Thank you for being so accurate. My glasses go dark like shades in the sunshine. Often throws me off on exposure. This app helps save the blow out from happening more often than it does. Providing I remember to use it..Version: 9.5

Handy appThis is a really good app I use for film photography with my film cameras that internal light meters don’t work on.Version: 9.5

Quite effectiveBeen using this app when shooting with an old film camera, seems to get things right. easy to use, practical note-taking..Version: 9.4

Super app for photographersThis is incredible! Super cool app which does what it should do. Saves you hundreds of bucks and helps to make your photos look super! Thanks to the developer! Recommend to photographers! Truly!.Version: 9.1.2

Perfect and usefulSome how this lightmeter gets it's reading pretty well spot on and almost matches the light meter in my nikon d3s. I made the comparison to see if it would replace a real light meter for shooting with a friends hasslebladd and it does.Version: 5.2

Light meterGreat! I usually use a second camera to check light reading, but no more. Just pull my iPod out and instant light reading.Version: 6.0

Light meterNice for when you need it quick.Version: 8.1

Great so farOn scenes tested so far it gives accurate readings on an iPhone 3GS. Very happy with the results. Hold so that subject's face or clothing (of average reflectance) fill the screen and take reading..Version: 8.2

Better than it claimsThis is a really good light meter app. It actually does much more than it claims in the store. You can independantly select and lock shutter spped aperture and film speed settings and it can display the actual reading in EV100, lux and footcandles and optionally give a histogram display. There are adds but they are not intrusive.Version: 4.4

SteveVery easy to use and so far spot on for results. No need to carry my old light meter when using my old film rangefinder..Version: 8.2

Most Useful Photo AppThis is by far the most useful app for photography that I own. It is intuitive to use and has never failed to give me a perfectly correct exposure. If for some reason I lost the app, I’d replace it immediately..Version: 9.5

HistogramWas better with the histogram as previous version, please bring it back! Otherwise, can't fault it..Version: 5.2

Trusty!I have taken so many film photos over many years using this app and have gotten reliable results. I shoot mostly color (Fuji Velvia 50) on a TLR and love the results. Worth it!.Version: 9.5

Replaced the need for a spot meter entirely for me.This app is incredible. I shot three rolls of velvia through my Fuji GW690III. Despite velvia being very unforgiving with exposure latitude, the shots came out great. This was the meter I used. It's spot on. The interface is incredibly intuitive, and you can set the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture in full, half, or third stops. The devs of this app got a pint from me!.Version: 9.3.3

It Really Works! This app works exceptionally well. I have checked it against a number of other hand held and in camera meters and it is sufficiently accurate to have no worries about its use. I find it handy to check lighting conditions, particularly inside, before getting the camera out the bag so as to get a feel for things first. Worth every penny..Version: 8.3.1

FantasticOops I thought I sent this review years ago... <<<My first lightmeter! Checking it out right now against my Sony EX3 with careful attention to effective ISO values depending on selected camera ND filter etc (newbie calculation territory for me), it seems to correspond correctly, making this app a handy initial scene assessment tool. And its getting me to expand my knowledge Cool.>>>.Version: 9.0

Great App, feels a little outdatedApp is accurate. Ive used this for both a Mamiya 645 and RZ67. Works fantastic every time. My film comes out well exposed. I don’t even carry a light meter because I trust this app so much. My only complaint is that the app’s layout and overall look feels a little outdated. It looks like an app that you’d get back in the early smartphone days. It’s not that big of a deal though because it works great regardless, but an appearance update wouldn’t hurt it..Version: 9.5

PhotographerExcellent product. Very useful and handy to compare different lighting situations. I can see this app growing excitement product into spot metering and measuring light temperature (kelvin)..Version: 9.5

Great appIt’s a great free app; I upgraded to support the developer. The color temperature feature is especially appreciate appreciate it. My only wish would be the ability to lock the aperture as I am using it with my iPhone which is fixed at f2.2..Version: 9.5

Nice and simplePerfect you some quick info now.Version: 8.3.1

Some thing you can use when starting outPerfect tool.Version: 9.5

Works beautifully when compared against a Sekonic L-208I was a little sceptical about this app. I've wondered about using my iPhone as a spot meter to accompany an old Yashicamat 124G (whose meter was removed) since my Sekonic L-208 is rather the worse for wear. I've been testing it against the L-208 (though of course the Sekonic also functions as an incident meter) and the spot metering is pretty accurate. Tap to specify the exact area you wish to meter, wait for the sensor to settle down and you get a really rather accurate reading. Perhaps it's off by 1/3 or a stop ... but only just. All in all a brilliant little app that will allow me to leave the Sekonic at home when I'm out having fun with an old camera!.Version: 0

Highly recommendedI'm a Leica nut from way back - and still shoot the occasional roll of film. It's great to be able to head out with a 60 year old camera and lens and know that with an iPhone and this app, I've got all the light metering I'll ever need. Unless you're wanting to spend big money on much more sophisticated and specialised metering equipment, this app is more than sufficient for the average punter. It's well supported by the developer and regularly updated..Version: 4.4

GobsmackedHeard about this on Film Photography Podcast and thought "oh yeh!" Tried it cos it's free, tested it with grey card against spotmeter in my EOS 3 and it was bang same in several conditions. So happy I paid for it and opted to buy the developer a pint, so cheers mate keep up the good work! As a follow up to my initial euphoria: I have using this some time now with my Bronica shooting Velvia 50 film (quite unforgiving of errors) and it has been quite consistently accurate. It is possible to check different exposure aspects of the display image so a kind of spot metering is possible. I still maintain my 5 star rating and you can't even get a secondhand Weston Master V for the cost of a pint!.Version: 8.3.1

Invaluable and easy to useWorks very well, although I find the 'old' interface easier to use. Also appears to compensate for the iphone camera's low-light adjustment (other meter apps don't)..Version: 8.3.1

Light meterThis app is great, i couldnt get the prior version to work but this one works really well! Ive tried it with my canon 500D dslr and am really happy with the results.Version: 0

Great!Without having to get out my camera I can tell technically what sort of settings I will need for a shot and if it will be feasible. Normally I use my mark 1 eyeballs but this is more accurate..Version: 6.0

Highly accurateThis app does an excellent job for use with my older cameras. Using it I have obtained very good results with Zeus Ikons and Soviet era Russian cameras. It has been a wonderful tool for determining the functionality of built in meters..Version: 9.5

ReviewIt’s fab for a derby.Version: 9.5

Easy & accurateStarted using this light meter in conjunction with my Yashica 635. So far, it has been spot on. What’s also great is while I’m sitting around using my phone I can get light readings, kinda of nerdy I know..Version: 9.5

Top of the Class AppThis is such a good app that I am buying a Pint for the author. One suggestion if I may. Can you in a future version incorporate a choice of DIN in addition to the ISO rating? That will suit my Leica M3 rangefinder camera..Version: 8.3.1

Superb app.Saves me taking my trusty old Weston Euromaster, and works very well..Version: 9.3.3

Accurate for Shooting video and filmSeems silly to use your iPhone to check your light settings, but for some of my medium format cameras that no longer have working meters, this is fantastic. Set it time ISO film you’re using and can even log as you go. Can’t wait to run around the city sigh some 800!CineStill in my 120 camera!.Version: 9.5

GooooodI've been using this app continuously for about eight months now on an ipod touch. It's accurate. Many, many rolls of black and white have come out reliably exposed, more often than not with a good/ very good dynamic range. It's coincident with almost every reliable light meter i've checked it against. It really doesn't perform well in low light though; and this is the one and only fault i can pick with it. I'd imagine that this is a limitation of the hardware, not the app. The layout is minimal and intuitive, and offers a simple but useful level of customisation. The option of whole/ half/ third stops in the aperture and shutter speed settings is brilliant and makes metering very quick, especially when using a variety of lenses or when shooting in time-sensitive situations. The log/dropbox function is very clever, but I haven't used it. This is easily the best free light meter app, if not the best all round..Version: 8.2

Great App!As a professional photographer, I thought it'd be a good idea to try this Free App out to see how accurate it is. I can honestly say I am very impressed with it & I would be happy to use this if I was in a situation whereby I had no access to a meter & was shooting on film. A great App to have for emergency situations, what's more, it's FREE!.Version: 4.5

I'd be in the dark without itNew features like saving images to your camera roll are handy. The new scroll wheel interface is easier to use too. Bought "the developer a pint", and hope he considers paying an interface designer to smarten up the design ;).Version: 8.1

Good on the goUse it with my nikon dslr and seems to be more accurate than the on-camera meter when comparing pics. Simple and easy to use.Version: 9.0

Great AppQuick to load, does the job, great price!.Version: 5.2

Just the jobBrilliant exposure results. Slightly over exposed by about 1/2 a stop which for most cases is perfect. Yes this is an average metering in that it takes everything into consideration. Perfect for film cameras with no meter and perfect as it's always in your pocket..Version: 9.0

Perfect accessory for my photography! As a professional photographer for over 40 years, I’ve owned just about everything one can have (and spent way too much money). The Pocket Light Meter app has been awesome and a tremendous value , especially for scouting and color temp checks when adding gels to match conditions! And it’s always with me!.Version: 9.5

Excellent appVery helping and when used as a ballpark setting works very well. Worth having in your apps bag.Version: 6.0

Who needs sekonic...Great app! Must have!.Version: 8.1

Good but...I think it really needs a defuser. I find that it grossly underexposes in bright light, but overexposes by a stop in low light. In regular everyday light it agrees more or less perfectly with my built in meter and handheld meter..Version: 9.3.3

Worth every pennyI know it's a freebie, but it's GREAT, honestly. I use it all the time, works delightfully, and has proven itself accurate. It's so good I had to send them money, a must have app..Version: 8.4

OutstandingThis app has saved me a lot of guessing. It works very well and is a credit to its designer..Version: 8.2

Handy, easy to useJust as the title says. I’ve been using PLM for 7 or 8 years. Does the job well..Version: 9.5

This app can save you money !Great.Version: 6.0

Very handy when used with a LuxiAttach a Luxi to your iPhone and calibrate, this app works great..Version: 8.4

Perfect for my usesI tested it next to one of my slrs to make sure the accuracy was reasonable (it is). Suits me fine for those days when I just want to to take the little old manual rangefinder out And can't be bothered with sunny 16..Version: 6.0

Great little app!Getting much better results from my photography when I use this app - even just to get an idea about the ambient light in some places..Version: 8.1

Jury's out till the first roll comes back! ;-)Seems to work well. Just purchased my new (old) 120mm Yashica-mat medium format camera and finished my first roll o film! Used this meter for all the exposures, so I've put a lot of faith in this bit o kit!! Gonna send the roll off for developing and will let you know the results when it gets back to me :-).Version: 8.1

Great appI never would have thought of using my phone for this purpose. Works great..Version: 4.4

Great light meter in the palm of my handShot a few rolls using this app as the light meter. They came out great. Exposures were accurate on B&W film. Simplified my travel set up and allows me to carry my Leica IIIf around without a light meter..Version: 9.5

I see the lightGreat software for scouting locations.Version: 8.1

ExcellentI use the tool frequently. It is intuitive to use, requires little training even for a novice photographer like myself. I recommend it to my friends without reservation..Version: 8.3.1

Always AvailableGreat Tool Always On Hand.Version: 9.5

Great app for free and even for the cost of a pint!V3 additions great. Lux very useful for me. But I do understand lux is relative for reflected light and hard to get right. So how about colour metering for v4? That's got to be worth several pints... Oh and how about a hyperfocal calculator that does not assume infinity is one end..... :-).Version: 0

Works great except...The app works great for ambient light, it would be amazing if it worked with strobes, in a perfect world....Version: 6.0

I love this light meterAlthough it can not compete with a Sekonic professional light meter (which will cost you quite some money) it still is very close. And you will have this one always with you! Furthermore the best thing to me is that this nice app provides you with the light temperature (Kelvin) which is absolutely amazing. It really helps you to set up the camera properly especially when working in studio conditions or using a tripod. Absolutely awesome..Version: 9.3

FantasticAwesome free light meter app. Tested next to Sekonic Light Meter and pretty much bang-on (maybe slightly over, but this can be adjusted). Would have been happy to pay for even, it's that handy!.Version: 0

Fairly accurate ambient light meterA good standby when the sekonic is at the bottom of the camera bag or in the other bag. Could be a little more intuitive in metering zones and non corded flash would be amazing but it's free and it does the job even if you have to compensate by 1/3rd to 2/3rds of a stop. More accurate than my old Weston master V!.Version: 8.1

ReviewExtremely handy!.Version: 9.4

Great appNice app.Version: 8.3.1

Did it job and well!Great little lightmeter! I was a little skeptical at first, but I used it along side my little manual ricoh rangefinder and it worked a treat! Perfect for what I needed! Thanks!.Version: 6.0

Great stuffI really like this app... I compared it to the readings and results from my Canon 6D and its right on. I use it on those rare occasions when I shoot film. My only complaint is that it won't take a reading off a flash but honestly I have no idea how that's even possible by using the iPhone cam. This is a great app and the price is RIGHT on. Good stuff!.Version: 9.3.3

Great app and best of all free!I use this app when shooting medium format film on old cameras without meters. I have compared the readings to '90s Canon SLRs as well as late model compact digitals and a professional grade Minolta exposure meter and it is never far off. Certainly far more accurate than needed for colour neg or black and white, and good enough for colour slide most of the time too. The save feature is great, takes a low res photo of the scene with all info, exposure settings, time, date etc. This is my EXIF data when I catalogue my negatives later....Version: 8.1

Great and handy meterI have actually checked against my Sekonic 778 light meter and the app is unbelievably close If it could measure flash this app would be amazing Great tool to have on your phone comes in handy.Version: 9.5

Old cameras.I mostly photograph with strange old half broken cameras. This app works great..Version: 9.5

Fricken brilliantThis makes reconnoitering a photo/video job real simple cause the light meter, notes & snaps are all in the one hand held device.Version: 0

I would payIf the developer cleans up the app a little bit. Update the design and make the user experience a little nicer. This is the only light meter app that seems to work on the AppStore yet it gets 0 love from its creator. Come on man! Give us something beautiful and we will buy you steak dinner! (Or grilled veggies hopefully you eat clean 😌).Version: 9.3.3

Great appDoes what you expect in a user friendly interface. I recommend it. Would benefit from a refinement of the slightly klunky design in the aperture/exposure settings area I think, perhaps a smaller more modern, cleaner looking sans serif typeface like Gill Sans or Futura perhaps. This would also allow more space for the app itself. Otherwise, great!.Version: 8.3.1

This App deserves higher rateI have been using this App for around two years, and I never get disappointed with it. I shot with this App for more than 20 rolls of 120 and 135 films. The meter is just accurate under any circumstances if you use it correctly. I rate it 5 stars absolutely..Version: 9.4

Great appThis app works really well as a spotmeter and general light meter. I've tested it against a professional light meter and it's accurate within less than half a stop. I find I use it more than my other meter. It's just so convenient..Version: 8.2

Thank you!The latest version is fantastic. Thank you for the option to have the old interface back! I am back in love with app and would recommend it to anyone. Buy this developer a pint, everyone!.Version: 8.1

Useful toolGreat to have on my iPhone when I have no meter on hand or when the on board camera meter seems off. Easy to adjust shutter and aperture on the fly..Version: 8.4
