Plex: Watch Live TV and Movies for Negative User Reviews

The worst software in existence. No other program for any computer of any kind has more than 1% of the bugs afflicting Plex. I was a premium user for one month and one month only; though it was only $5, I resent it deeply. I joined the premium in order to transfer files; I tried to transfer a file; three days later, it was not yet 50% transferred, so I canceled and transferred it via OneDrive; it took 27 seconds. This is ALL due to the Plex developers’ monumental stupidity, changing the files’ formats rather than just making their software read multiple formats. Those who praise Plex have failed a rudimentary intelligence test; you could upload your files and play them in VLC or similar software in less than 1% of the time, with less than 1% of the hassle. In addition, there’s the insane fact that the apps have no button to update a library. Add a video, wait six hours (if you’re lucky), and it will appear in your library. You cannot manually do this. MANY people have complained about this design flaw on Plex’s forums; official responses have LIED and claimed that no one has raised the issue previously, when in fact there are a dozen threads stretching back years. All in all, if you’re using Plex, stop and find a better program, which is ALL OF THEM..Version: 5.16.1

Impossible to download items in libraryAll guides/info say you can download an item by visiting its details or ‘the context menu’ but there is no option to download in the details screen or any menu-context or otherwise. Apparently you have to subscribe to get access to ‘sync’ your items for offline play, so I went ahead and upgraded to see if an option would show up. Nothing has. I just want to move copies of my owned media to my devices for offline play during travel. Just finished trying to setup a managed profile for my kid and added the movies that were age appropriate. Logged into the new profile I created to see what would show up and the screen was littered with TV shows that included thumbnails with handguns. There were also horror movies-despite my setting the restrictions on the profile to G and PG. I guess age ratings don’t apply to Plex Picks for whatever reason. App has been sliding downhill for years..Version: 7.27

Great when it works. Ridiculously buggy though.Tried to play my synced content when I have no internet, only to be told I need to connect to the internet when I try to play it offline? Completely kills the point of paying for the function. This happens far too often. Can be really temperamental when trying to sync content, too. As I write this, I’m getting errors syncing due to the server “on this device is unavailable” - yet I’m still able to stream content from the app itself and even the web app? So, clearly available? Paying a monthly fee for a function that is barely working and not really satisfied with it at times..Version: 7.0

Are you kidding?I have had a lifetime Plex Pass for years and my servers are available to family and friends. I manage my Plex servers through a password protected admin account and I am the only one who knows the admin password. The users log in to Plex with the general Plex password associated with my email address, known to all. Today one of my users, an experienced computer user, downloaded the Plex app and was flabbergasted to learn that when she logged into Plex with the general Plex password she had instant access to the system admin account and could add or delete anything on the system! YIKES!!! Who designed this? Who tested this? What were they thinking?.Version: 6.9

Needs some fixesI have been using Plex for about 1 1/2 years now and it has been great! The video quality is good, especially considering all the other apps i have used in the past. Sound is great, but I still have one problem that i have seen other reviews mention as well. I go away a lot on trips and stuff so i usually download and sync the movies i want to watch. As soon as i click it, the movie would not show and would just keep loading and glitching and blacking out. I don’t understand why because usually when i download stuff in the past, it has worked fine but suddenly this is happening and it gets very frustrating to watch a screen load when i want to watch something. I think what this app need is some attention to fix some other issues, importantly this one. Please get this fixed, I really love Plex, i love to use it and if you can just check out the download and sync maybe make an update to help the issue, that would be great! Thank you! - Mikayla🤍.Version: 7.3.1

App getting stuck for like 15 secs! After the new update my app has been getting stuck for like 15-20 seconds after I switch back to the plex app from another app. Say for example I’m watching something on plex, I get a notification from Instagram so I go on Instagram for like 5-10 mins then I decide to switch back to plex. That’s when this happens! The app doesn’t like crash and close but just gets stuck! Like my whole phone gets stuck. I’m not even able to lock the screen or go to another app. And no, my phone is not the problem. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max..Version: 7.21.1

Great idea, poor executionThis could be so good. There’s a lot it gets right. But it requires my Mac to be on for any of the iOS or the tv apps to work. Why? Infuse for Apple TV doesn’t, and it works great. I don’t want to have to be running a server from my Mac just to watch movies on my Apple TV. Also it has real problems keeping the library updated. Sort by date never worked, so it was hard to see what was new. And other bugs meant I deleted it and moved to infuse, which works better. They’d be better cutting out some of the pointless features like Tidal integration and making sure the basic app just worked, streaming your local movie library, without messing up a lot. Also it should be able to work without needing my Mac to be on all the time..Version: 7.18

Works but buggyNot as polished as I expect for paying a subscription fee. My main gripes: 1. Playing sync'd local media via Chromecast audio only plays one song at a time (Ie playlists do not work) unless you have the app open and phone unlocked. 2. Tapping volume up and down buttons do not result in volume change. I have made a request on the forum for the first issue with no response. Would have been nice to at least be acknowledged there..Version: 4.28

Mess the old open source versionI used plex since the day when it was free and open source, now lately the plex software is going down hill making everything not work right or having to be force to pay to get ads and other features. Plex removed the plugins witch was amazing features but now you have to pay. I’ve already switch to another free open source software that does what plex does but better. There are developers who cares and plex only cares about money..Version: 8.16

Useful features programmed out and constant crashingI used to love Plex but in the last month or so it has lost a lot of its appeal and usability. The great feature of seeing if a file had been previously played from the colour of the play icon in the folder list has been removed so that now you have to go into the files info to see if it has been “watched” this is relatively minor but still quite annoying. My bigger problem is that it appears that with the latest update if I try to scroll down in the Folder view when browsing videos, the app crashes meaning that I cannot get to the file I want to watch if it does not come up in one of the “Discover” lists (yes I have updated the server to the latest version) Very disappointed with this app and how it seems to be getting less user friendly..Version: 4.29

Please give me the volume control backGenerally a great app but latest update means I can’t turn the volume on my tv up or down from my iPad - fix that and you’re back to 5 stars.Version: 6.3

Shortened title. Plex sucks!! IOS version can’t play slides.I opened a topic describing the problem on the Plex Forum about a year ago. I got one comment from Plex support who said they were looking into it. And that was the last I heard of him. Meanwhile, countless other users and Plex Pass holders have added their names and confirmed the problem is real. Plex on iOS is completely useless for playing slide shows. And despite the growing swell of user complaints, Plex issues nearly weekly updates to their server and player apps, adding j”junk welfare” movies and live TV streams, seemingly abandoning its loyal base by offering more and more useless features—all the while our legitimate technical issues are ignored. I don’t doubt that a one or two Plex softwaregineers could have fixed this obvious bug in a day or two. I get new emails every week from users who can’t use photos on iOS Plex, and no one can understand why this simple problem wasn’t fixed nearly a year ago. I used to love Plex, rated it 5 stars and recommended it to all my friends. I was always a Plex Pass subscriber—not because of any significant benefits (there aren’t any), but as voluntary measure of my support. (If something works, you like it, and use it extensively, I believe in supporting the developer so that they remain viable and continue to offer a great product. Sadly, after a year of total neglect and no responsiveness from anyone at Plex, I cancelled my Plex Pass. They didn’t even ask why I was dropping it. Had they had the sense to ask that simple question, the problem would no doubt be fixed by now and I would be a happy customer instead of a justifiably irate former fan. I await the news that the slide player problem on iOS has finally been acknowledged and dealt with. At which time, i wine happy to buy a Plex Pass again and revise my deservedly very negative review..Version: 7.11

The beginning of the endPlex used to be great. Focused on your local media library and personal streaming from your home computer. Now Plex is bloated, slow and selling it’s own streaming content. I paid quite a bit of money for the old version. A real shame..Version: 6.6

Swiftly loosing its charmLong time lifetime pass member. Commercial companies slowly creeping in offering movies/ tidal etc. Plex is slipping..Version: 6.5.2

Great AppLove this app. It has what I need for using my data and getting it anywhere. I don't understand the need to have a Plex pass I don't use this feature as it is not needed. I do think however that the Plex makers or any app or program designers should ever withhold the ability to have parental control. This feature is a security feature to make sure no children ever get what they should have and should be a default item in any app. When this becomes a standard non plex pass feature Ill give 5 stars. Its just the right thing to do. Beyond that all features are great app works like a charm. I took another star for not having the ability to have plex find all my movies. Vob and a few other standard movie types when ripped Plex did not find and i have to now convert 400+ films to a mode plex will use. Silliness. It should at least do what XBMC already does. As Most that use plex also use xbmc for hone use since the XBMC interface is better for home use and streaming plex is best for. Ill return that star when it does other formats also..Version: 4.22

You need to do better on your appThe update to the new logo in august of 2022 deleted ALL my offline content! 😡 How is this acceptable? How come you didn’t test it? Why is the app constantly crashing in the background with the new update? You’re support forums are a joke, I want to report an issue to you directly and can’t. And the the last time I used your forums I was told to repost it because it wasn’t in the correct folder. That’s your job not mine! 😳 If you don’t like where it’s at then you move it. I’m not your IT support or paid by you to redo anything. I reach out for support and need support not to be told I’m posting on the wrong page. So why isn’t there support in the app? I wrote this review for Plex to see and show users what a frustrating support system they have. I love versatility of Plex but not their support. No support for this app their forums are a joke and keep taking away features like “pause downloading” and won’t implement a directory based playlist creator. I’ve been on their site to complain about these things and always met with “you need to move this thread”, that’s not my job! It’s yours I go there for support not to be talked down to and patronized when I have an issue!.Version: 8.9

Not stableWas great. But as soon as I purchased the option to unlock screen sharing it crashes on load. Now unusable..Version: 5.0.3

Download doesn’t workPlex used to be a great product. The downward slide in quality and programming is becoming increasingly frustrating and has started me looking for a new product. First the app immediately crashes when you launch the app. So you have to launch it twice just open. (I have removed and reinstalled the app several time to make sure it wasn’t just a glitch with an update.) Second, you take away the Sync function and replace it with Download. You state “Download works how you always wanted Sync to work.” So if that is the case why didn’t you just remove the functionality? The download function in the app never actually downloads a single thing! I have tried to download an entire season. To the extreme that I left the app running in the foreground with the screen lock off for 3 days, it still didn’t download the first byte of data. (With the little circle running around the bars.) This was after repeated attempts to download with it running in the background like you used to be able to do. So, figured okay I’ll try just downloading an individual episode and nurse it through the weekend, still have not successfully got a single byte of data. You have managed to take a product with excellent potential and run into the ground..Version: 7.25

IOS app is not well designedI have owned Plex for about 4-5 years now, and the media server is great. It’s very easy to set up and manage. The iOS app, however, is not very good. As an example, it does not sync music very well. I had all my music synced to my phone; then one day it was all gone. No error message or notification of what had happened. 5000 songs were deleted off my phone. Syncing has been problematic since day one. The other problem is with the UI. The buttons are tiny, even on an iPhone XS. They tried to cram too much on the screen and made the play and pause buttons so small I have to have my glasses on to see them. Since it doesn’t integrate with Siri well, I have to pull over if I want to search for songs while I’m driving. Playlists also don’t sync between devices so I have to set up new lists on each one. In my opinion, the whole app needs a complete redesign. I’ve tried to make it work, but I’m going to be looking for another app to use to play my music on my phone..Version: 5.4

Notification spamNotification spam will always be unacceptable. I don’t care what’s available now on Amazon prime..Version: 8.31

Chromecast & Downloads failMoved from an iPhone 12 which worked perfectly to a iPhone 14, now I can’t cast to my chromecast or download my media to the device. Tried everything, can’t find any fix. Why?? I love Plex and been a customer since the beginning, but like others, I wish they kept it simple rather than all these useless new features I don’t need. When it works it’s great… it’s just that often it doesn’t. Update. 6 months later, it’s still not working on iPhone. Works on everything else!! Why?!??!! Tried support forum, just don’t ever get any sort of reply from Plex. Useless..Version: 8.22

Not configured for 12.9 iPad screenVideos are cut down to what appears to be a smaller iPad screen. There appears to be no adjustment available to have Plex recognise the 12.9 screen..Version: 7.22

Doesn't work as well as it used toI love Plex, but it seems to be getting less stable. The iOS app especially has been way more glitchy than it used to be, but the desktop stuff, both server and player, isn't running as smoothly anymore either. My hardware is all a bit dated, but it should still be plenty adequate. On my 4th gen iPad, the Plex app crashes frequently and the video often stutters and its been getting progressively worse. I think some of the more recent updates helped some with the crashing, but the stutters have gotten worse. I would prefer to not transcode files for playback as my Plex server is running on my primary computer and I don't want to tie up the resources and it doesn't solve all the issues anyway. VLC for iOS handles the files better, so I use that when Plex fails me, but Plex has the far superior browsing interface. VLC plays more smoothly, only rarely stuttering under very heavy network or drive activity, has better audio boost functionality, etc..Version: 6.6

New changes are awful! Why would you remove user defined folders from the main screen? I can’t find or see anything useful. Now the main menu is just as bad as the program schedule. Can’t you just give the people what they want instead of what your vision of a user experience is!.Version: 5.6

Free Movies anytime soon?It won’t let me watch movies free.Version: 6.2

Ruined!Love Plex, used it for years! But this new activation they added completely destroys the app! The prompt pops up constantly to annoy you about paying for the app as an option but after clicking no it closes whatever video feed your watching. So it’s just a constant loop of watching 30 seconds of video, prompt, prompt closes video. I should also state I’ve never once left an app review but deliberately went out of my way to write this, that’s how annoying it is!.Version: 7.15

BrokenThis is no longer loading. Please fix..Version: 7.28

Stop messing with my preferencesThe constant updates are annoying, but constantly changing people’s preferences with every update is ridiculous. I’ve been a longtime fan and supporter, but I will have to look for alternatives. I want my software to work for me, not the other way around. Please respect your user’s preferences..Version: 6.5.2

Uselss on MacOSI'm not sure why this is available in the MacOS App store. It kind of works, but there is no way to control the app once a video has started aside from pause / skip forward and backward using the keyboard. There's no way to go back to the video selection, or skip to the next episode. There is a preferences window, but it doesn't show anything useful..Version: 8.10

Local server connectionsI have always had trouble with the iOS versions of this app, even though I’m only connecting to a local server. The app on my Roku has no difficulty connecting to the same server. It is extremely frustrating. I am now completely unable to connect to the server from my iPad, despite having tried logging out and back into the app, logging out and using a wait list of local network connection, deleting the app and re-downloading it, deleting all three instances of the iPad app from my list of allowed devices in my account, etc. For some inexplicable reason, my Plex account has now decided that my iPad app is also a server, so some of the other client apps now list two entries for my iPad as servers. Also, when my home Internet isn’t working and I can’t go online, even though my Plex server is on the same local network/router as Plex app on my phone, iPad, and TV, none of them are able to access the server. They all say that the server is unavailable. My SMB file sharing on the same Mac at the Plex server works fine, so it’s not a problem with my local network. I would think that playing files in Plex over the local network would not be affected by an Internet outage… I’ve had so many problems with the iOS apps that I don’t see how the people at Plex hope to entice me to purchase a subscription when I can’t even really use the features that a subscription affords. The app is nice when it works, but far too often it doesn’t really work..Version: 6.0

I hate this appFraud.Version: 8.30

Used to be great, but now…?When I first started with Plex 5 years or more ago, it was a great system. You stored your files on a local server and streamed them to a TV. Simple, brilliant. However as the years have gone by they keep on tinkering with it. More features, more content, at the sacrifice of reliability. The new download system is simply rubbish. It can’t hold a Harry Potter book any more. The app won’t last the night if you want to listen overnight. You are logged out frequently and need to rescan everything. The default settings are for any other content except for your own. This list goes on and I’m paying for this! Plex, please, stop adding new features for five minutes and get a grip on the bugs. Fix the download issues properly and start offering some sensible support. You’ve made it so complex now that beginners can’t cope and forums don’t work if you have a problem due to a bug..Version: 8.12

Very disappointedBought a subscription so the ads would go away but to my surprise and disappointment the ads are still being displayed. Major rip-off..Version: 8.25

Getting harder and harder to usePlex used to be easy to use. To sync files and Unsync them to my devices. Now it’s impossible to find how to unsync anything. And trying to find my way through all the extra things it tries to force on us is incredibly annoying. All I want to do is play my files that I have. I don’t want paid content. I don’t want the free content. Just my stuff. Getting to my content has gotten harder and harder. It insists on showing “recommended” content all the time. I know what I want to see and it’s not recommendations. Just stop it. Notice that the reviews giving high stars are from at least two years ago. Take note....Version: 7.6.1

It’s okUI is weird and getting more strange over time. That said, once you get used to it you can find things pretty quickly in folder view and via search. Sync to iOS is really really slow. Copying a single movie to iPad can take many hours and I haven’t been able to figure out the spells to speed it up. I cancelled the Plex pass for this reason but continue to use Plex on Apple TV. It’s a shame really as the app has so much potential. I’d love to see what’s going on behind the scenes that continues to allow so many odd decisions to be made wrt design and functionality. Fingers crossed they sort things out soon..Version: 6.1

Broken again after updateSeems to be problems after every update. Now it won’t play synced music when offline..Version: 5.8

Dear lord, how far we’ve fallenThe ‘your media your way’ is a distant memory. The core functionality of playing your media has taken a distant back seat to streaming ad supported and subscription services and pimping your info to ad services and trying to sell some pretty bad product ideas to ‘our’shares. Fixes and bugs go largely unaddressed, users are deliberately mislead (like the fact the fact plex caches the metadata/we don’t get it directly, the RT or IMDB ratings bug thats been asked 100’s times and totally ignored etc). Getting Cloudflare setup for Emby as we speak. Update 5/30 - wow have things changed with time. My beloved Plex, my favorite software since 2010 has totally lost its way and unrecognizable. 5 years ago I would’ve,said Plex was the technology that made the biggest impact in my house and the fact friends and family could watch it was unbelievable. Now the server owners are simply a delivery system of people (our shares) to monetize their wares too. It’s been years since the server owners were their target audience. Not sarcastic- I’d pay a sub to remove the inundated non stop crud and let us actually admin the server-client. There has to be a price where this makes sense, find out and offer it. Ps- the reviews are funny bc 90% have no idea what it was originally made for..Version: 8.30

Paid and subscription then why track users? You have paid and subscription features and a stay revenue stream from this app. Why must you track users? Please change your policies and stop tracking users..Version: 7.11

ActivationApp always requests activation after purchase. Restore purchase doesn’t work. You need to purchase the app again then apple realises you had already purchased the app. You then need to restart the app to watch a movie etc. Next time you use the app you need to go through the repurchase process again. Very frustrating......Version: 8.17

Update is lacking...againI usually don't leave feedback regarding updates, but I must in this case... I'm a big fan of Plex, and mainly use it on Roku and IPad. I am extremely disappointed that the watch later feature was discontinued recently AGAIN which I used everyday! It was helpful to browse tv plugins on the iPad and add episodes to watch later......to then watch later on the roku....since the roku has NEVER had this feature since Plex was born. Please bring back the watch later feature asap, and please add this feature to Roku too! Also, I am happy with the new podcasts feature but would love a listen later feature for that too! I do not like the webisodes feature and don’t care to see it but there is no way to remove it? Still need tweaking with customization options. Plex is fantastic overall, but I'm giving 3 stars this time, because an update should not keep subtracting from the user enjoyment. Common sense says make things more user customizable, so people can choose what they want to keep and get rid of what they don’t want to see....and with as few clicks as possible too! Please fix what is lacking now, but once was there to enjoy.....for the 2nd time!!!.Version: 5.7.1

Major problems with current releaseAfter scrolling through movie library, the latest update started scrolling back to the first item in menu. This is super frustrating if you have more than 10 items in your menu..Version: 7.11

AdsThis app is good but there are way to many ads I got 10 ads . Please make less ads, 2 ads is good enough..Version: 8.29

Took a turn for the worstThis app used to be good. My latest gripe has to do with the Plex team holding notifications hostage by not letting you opt out of promotional offers. Now I have to disable notifications entirely for flows I used to use so I don't get their promotions about their ad ridden TV service I couldn't care less about..Version: 7.17

Plex pass downloads are uselessI’ve used Plex for years - streaming is seamless on my iPhone, a bit clunky when beaming to a chromecast, and pretty terrible when using airplay. Recently I upgraded to Plex pass to be able to download media directly to my phone while abroad and the download function is so slow as it be basically unusable. I’ve been walking around Antigua for three weeks trying to find better wifi connections but eventually concluded that the service is just rubbish. Plenty of people in forums seem to have found the same. Then they’ve been real stick in the muds about giving me a refund for it. Shame..Version: 8.16

What theI heard so much about Plex on line and installed it on my Server. What a joke, I have spend the whole f day trying to get this working and first fixed one thing and another. Then when I can back here I looked at some of the reviews (which are very different from what people say on other internet sites) and of the issues I am having is “user cannot be authenticated” is apparently too many logins. OMG the f could have worded that as “ too many incorrect logins “ which wouldn’t confuse people with the “ user could not be authenticated “ sht. I have spent the WHOLE day doing port forwarding and trying DNAT rules and exceptions on my firewalls and routers because I thought it was an IP/ Networking issue. I haven’t even got this working yet and man, am I disappointed.Version: 7.5.1

Only 1 day so far so 🤷🏻‍♂️What really pisses me off, so I get these promo emails & Botten when you try unsub it states oops something went wrong or can’t match url with users name & email. Why? Opps something went wrong when you started spamming my email with promo. And how can ops something go wrong when trying to unsubscribe directly from a link that you emailed to me. How can something go wrong. I bet if I was trying to sub, pay or opt in nothing would go wrong!!! 🤬.Version: 8.17

Plex always rm -rf * all my downloaded content while on travel for no reasonPlex Pass supporter and the app was up to date and just power cycled my iPad and Plex decided to arbitrary just delete all my download files while on travel away from my Plex server. The most basics of features they can’t seem to get right this has affected Plex for years. Failure to listen to the community that has supported them and properly test their builds. Don’t really blame the developers obviously not on the radar of their management. This must be the tenth time this has happened iOS and seems to be ignored. As others have noted don’t seem to meet the give a crap factor at plex more of trying to integrate ada laced content I get it as I own a business money maker. I’d seriously consider asking for a refund for my lifetime plex pass based on how awful the download experience has been the developers are pretty crappy and can’t figure out the most basic of things sync sync sync. Just make sure you don’t give the app permissions to photos based on experience it will delete all your photos randomly when not in your home network..Version: 8.29

Umm.....Have no idea why this has 4.7 out of 5 .... It’s like going back to the 70’s with the range of movies and tv shows!! No new stuff, very outdated..Version: 6.10.1

Audio Sync and Stuttering Issues on Apple TVThe iOs and iPadOS apps have always been great for me, as is the web interface and server. Nothing comes close to the functionality and polish offered in that regard. I hear people have some issues with the download functionality but I don’t use that so can’t comment. However, the Apple TV app suffers from audio desync on most videos and stuttering with 4K content. This has been ongoing for years with no real fix available which is kind of maddening since that’s the platform that gets by far the most use from me. Thankfully, you can use Infuse as a drop in replacement (connects directly to the same plex server with the metadata and play position/watched status perfectly synced), which gets you: - HDR tonemapping (which you get with Plex Pass but it’s kind of redundant since 4k content doesn’t work properly) - Perfect playback of 4k content with no stuttering - Perfect audio sync Thankfully this workaround exists but i really wish Plex would sort out the Apple TV app. There are threads on the forums dating back years with people complaining of these issues..Version: 8.20

AppApp crashes all the time on apple devices.. Apple TV and iPhone.Version: 7.22

New interface is awfulHadn't used the app in a while as I mostly use the excellent server interface and TV app. The new interface since version 5 is unbelievably bad. It's taken me 15 minutes just to get my media displaying again. The concept of connecting to a local server seems to have been deprioritised as it can't find my local server until I sign in. The home screen makes no sense as it's just displaying a random list of "recommendations" and I can choose to "customize" it only by adding podcasts, which I don't have and have never used. The"add a library" button shown when there's no content just takes you to rambling web page about setting up all of Plex Media Server rather than tell me why it's not connecting to my existing server. I'm a "lifetime" customer and hugely disappointed..Version: 5.5.1

Hot GarbageThis app has serious potential, but it’s completely awful in its current form. Between stalling out when loading channels, inability to auto-play upon opening (which both Pluto and Tubi have) and inconsistent previously viewed channels history, it’s the worst of all free streaming apps..Version: 8.31

Flakey and invasiveI want to like this app and the Plex server, I really do. After all I paid good money for both when first impressions/tests were good. Since then there have been many updates, and it has been more frustrating than usable. Having some experience debugging both software and network issues, I’ve spent way too much time trying to understand what this app is doing or rather failing to do, which causes it to frequently stall or not even connect to the server within our home network. Time I would have rather spent actually enjoying our media. My #1 complaint is that it stalls or buffers so much that it is unusable. Our LAN and all devices are plenty fast so congestion or speed of connectivity isn’t the problem. #2 WOW! This app calls home a lot. I think that might actually be the root of the problems. It even authenticates with an external service when all we want is for it to play local content. UI wise, it looks nice, but ultimately it needs to be able to play our content. For that we found MrMC, which is just superb and rock solid. Plus, MrMC seems to respect user privacy and rarely makes external requests... if ever. Regardless I keep revisiting this app to see if updates have made it more usable because the UI is nice, and because I paid so much for it. As of sept. 23, 2018, it still stalls on most content, while the same files play perfectly in MrMC.😑.Version: 5.4

Too many tapsI dislike the following - no was to see what episode or program I’m watching on the playing screen. When I tap the screen to bring up the controls it doesn’t show me what I’m watching. Useful if I fall asleep watching and want to see if I missed an episode. - when I did fall asleep and miss an episode I find the process of going back to the previous episode confusing. The “skip back” button returns to the start of the current episode, but shows no visual indication that’s what happened -because as per the previous point you don’t know what episode your on. But from the player there’s no way to get to the episode list - previous versions of this app had an obvious navigation hierarchy; you could go to an episode, all the episodes in a season, all the seasons in a tv series and the full tv series list. This breadcrumb trail is gone, and finding your way up and down this hierarchy from the present point is confusing. The whole user experience has gone backwards. - when I switch on subtitles it only works one episode. I need to do it for every episode.Version: 6.10.1

More miss than hitBeen using Plex for 6+ years now and have always found it to be overly complicated to set up properly but once it’s up and running it’s reasonably good. Despite having 1gb WiFi I often have buffering issues and today the app keeps intermittently saying I’m offline when the web version shows I’m connected. Haven’t been able to view my library in the app all day. Agree with what others have said about focusing on getting the basic functionality right before adding new features. Get regular emails to upgrade to a Plex Pass but won’t until everything works properly and doesn’t require complex troubleshooting and configuration..Version: 8.13

You can’t have my money. This app is awesome but every minute or two it asks me to pay for some stupid thing I don’t want. It’s so annoying! I hate it so much! It won’t go away. I’m not going to pay for it but it keeps on asking me. It is so annoying every time I’m up to the good part in a movie it stops asks me to pay for something I say no and it makes me have to click to watch the movie again. Don’t say it’s fine, if it happened to you you’d be ripping your hair out like me!.Version: 5.5.1

Just awful, complete garbage. Just don't bother. No support availableShow titles don't load most of the time, rarely plays from guide for streaming, have to delete cache AND data just to get it to barely function, support forum full of extremely poor assistance, WON'T EVER LET ME LOGIN, 3 Months now, won't let me view anything without asking me to login, so WHY WOULD YOU BOTHER WITH THIS APP. So many other issues. Playback poor, freezing, screen locks up, etc. AND THEY WANT USERS TODO ALL THE DEBUGGING AND LOG IT ON THE FORUM. ( Instead of just enjoying a show like you want!!! You don't pay us!!! )Sounds like you need to chuck it and start over, but you can get almost if not every channel they offer on another app that works flawlessly EVERY TIME? YOU WOULDN'T! Don't bother. Doesn't work on smart TVs, doesn't let you log in, NO REAL CUSTOMER SUPPORT, no new shows or movies. Basically just another attempt to capitalize on the free tv market. Had you just had customer support this junk app might have been working properly after several months. Again, just don't bother with this app, plenty more working apps that have the same shows. Update;. Broken even more now. Just a CRAPAPP.Version: 7.24.1

AirPod connection needs attentionAfter months of going back and forth, I finally took the plunge and paid full price for the Lifetime Plex Pass. I must say, i was immediately disappointed by the poor interfacing with my AirPods. In particular, if I pause the music by a double tap to my AirPod, and the phone goes to sleep before I want to restart the music, the app will not play music to the AirPods again without closing and rebooting the app. To be explicit, connectivity is not restored by a double tap of the AirPod when the phone is off, on but on the lock screen, on and logged into the phone but not on the app, or even when logged back into the phone with the app open. Furthermore, opening the app and pushing play will cause the progress bar to advance but there is still no music playing. Please address this in a future update. As another suggestion, there also needs to be a less clunky way to switch between online and offline browsing mode — maybe assume if no server is available default to offline mode?.Version: 5.9.1

Would have been a 5 beforeI spent a lot of time organizing my library and now it’s frustrating as all get out to get to my content. Please add an ALL option and not just an All for TV, Movies and Music. Plex just became unusable for me. I’ve been using Plex from almost the beginning back when it was Mac only. I was one of the first people to sign up for a lifetime pass. Please don’t make me regret this. I don’t want to use a different client to view my content but it looks like I’m going to need to until they fix this problem. I’m really not happy that they didn’t give us a toggle to the old format or at least a way to view ALL content and then switch to folders. [If you’re in the same boat, please consider checking out Infuse 5. It seems to work seamlessly with Plex Server and keeps it in folder layout. You’ll also be able to add Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive. I’ve been recommending Plex & Plex Server for years. I never thought I’d be suggesting folks use a different client, in a Plex app review no less!].Version: 5.0.3

Poor qualityAfter last few updates I lost the ability to scroll photos on Apple TV. Unbelievable. Bug was reported on Plex forum 18 days ago and it’s still not fixed. Hero to zero indeed..Version: 6.8

Plex Pass userNot worth using anymore, they’ve started pushing client updates for AppleTV, Roku etc that stop it connecting to older servers. The newer versions of the software no longer work on older OSes so that old laptop/Mac mini/pc in the corner that you recycled won’t actually work after the “upgrade”.. Support is basically non existent, you have to post to the forum and the so called staff member just reply with, “you need to upgrade”... which if you are any sort of basic user you already know this and they refuse to help further with a “not out problem” reply. If you keep making an issue they close the tickets and hide them so other users cannot see them..Version: 7.11

The ability to actually watch anything requires in-app purchase.False advertising entirely, claims you can play movies and stuff but it actually only works as a remote control and makes you pay to be able to play movies. It lets you watch for about 30 seconds before you hit a limit and get a popup telling you to pay. Waste of time, unless you’re actually looking to pay for the app or just want to use your phone/tablet as a remote then don’t bother downloading it..Version: 6.8

A Fan's LamentThis used to be a decent product, but recently it's become practically unusable. From frequent crashes to downgraded features, the app is no longer one I think I can use and after so many years satisfied with the server-side client that I may now need to replace. About the only new "feature" introduced that kept me around even this long was the ability to skip credits, but without being able to download and play the files on my local device (to avoid using cellular data when between wireless networks on my daily commute) without it crashing when downloading, crash when playing, playing multiple files at once, then crashing, needing frequent restarts from freezes, and have less control over how to download things in the first place compared to past versions I enjoyed without issue. I don't know what happened for quality control, but someone should be fired for gross incompetence for pushing out a now broken product that can't do the thing it's most used for; accessing your library both on & offline without headache..Version: 8.19

False AdvertisingEverything says it’s free. It’s not. You can’t watch your own content without paying 8$ a month or paying 7 $ to “unlock” viewing on your on server. If you don’t it’s only their content. Good thing I decided to make sure the app worked before setting up a full server for my house. Incredibly frustrating that only the online web version is free and that iOS is not free like it says almost everywhere. Not in one place in the website or description did it mention that you can’t even stream the content. I understood no downloading but this is insane..Version: 7.15

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!!!For years I’ve been a Plex user and subscriber and I like to download some content now and again and since this latest update and the change from sync to download it’s rubbish it takes too long to upload the library and have test after 8 hrs been able to download anything to my phone. All my apps are up to date yes I can play them but I want to use them offline. I can’t be bothered to keep paying for a gradually worsening app. Back in the day I had no issues with Plex but I’ve had enough. Paying £4.99 a month is £4.99 too much for this version..Version: 7.26

They are truly talented ……and highly ignorant - their way or hwy! People have been begging the to support slideshow on ATV for ~10 years - but NOPE! Basically, since day 1, they have never ever listened to their users’ requests - not even once! Each and every feature whether comes in or goes out - it’s their own little team’s decision!.Version: 8.30

Plex is Great, App is deterioratingI absolutely love Plex, have used it for years, have the lifetime pass etc. However, the iOS app is just getting worse. It has now started refusing to play music tracks that none of my other devices are struggling with and it has never failed to play them before (prompting me to write this review). The syncing process is not easy to be sure if it's working or not. The Offline mode which I really rely on, often isn't in offline mode when it says it is, and you have to switch it off and on again to get it to work. The "Most played in Month" feature seems to pick arbitrary months to display data for, no idea of the logic and I doubt the selections it shows too. Those are the things off the top of my head that annoy me on a regular basis. I will re-do this review of they fix the issues, I've no idea why it's so bad when Plex itself is so good. A big disappointment and a constant frustration. Only gets the second star because it works sometimes..Version: 5.9.1

Great idea but doesn’t work wellI like the app very much I’ve found some great movies and shows that I haven’t seen in years and some new ones too but I’m struggling with the playback . On live tv the movie will stop and skip backwards a couple of seconds and it does this quite often and also the app closes down and reloads to free up memory and it’s not very good if you’re watching live tv and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to connect to the Plex server or alter the video settings. If it wasn’t for these issues Plex would be fantastic but as it stands a 90 minute movie might take quite a bit longer to watch . Hopefully these issues will be resolved soon then I can enjoy the massive selection of entertainment that Plex has to offer.Version: 8.29

Use to work now trashUse to work. It had a nice remote feature too that was removed. Now doesn’t even connect with Plex. Too buggy, you would think by now they would of figured it all out. As of today, app is completely useless. Gave 2 stars because at one point it was amazing!.Version: 7.6.1

Annoying ads even with the PassPurchased your pass on Apple TV which I thought would remove all the ads but no, they are still there and popping up continuously while I’m trying to watch a show or movie. What’s the point in paying for your service if you keep showing annoying ads?.Version: 8.27

Home Page ruinedI love Plex, I’ve loved Plex and trumpeted how impressive it has been for years. And for the first time I find myself really disappointed with the recent changes specifically to the home page. The new change seems to have obliterated everything I actually had on deck across films, tv shows, home movies, things I’ve recently added to what is now meaningless rubbish, a couple of completely random podcasts and stuff not actually on my Plex server at all! I can’t seem to find anyway to restore the old faithful home page I habitually go to, knew and loved. Please put the home back to what it was as this is a really disappointing change and makes home a useless page I can see no purpose for at all now. :(.Version: 6.0

V5 is a step backwardThe new version is pretty dreadful for making it work the way you want, rather than the way they want. A single list view for all sources is far worse than the old ‘server’/‘source’, especially when you start to get multiple sources on multiple servers - and if a local synced source is empty, it doesn’t show at all, thereby messing the sort order. As far as I can tell, there’s little that can be added to the shiny new home screen, other than ‘on deck’ or ‘newly added’, which also belies the idea that you can make it your own - I use neither function..Version: 5.0.1

Good ideas with bad developmentThis app can be great when it works and when they aren’t removing features that have been there for years. Several versions have seen end of life support with many bugs still remaining. You used to be able to swipe left or right between songs when listening and now you have to hit an actual button to skip a song, why remove a feature that wasn’t broken? I have a lifetime subscription and the developers are an absolute joke. Literally each new update breaks something else and their support structure is nonexistent. Smart playlists are broken when locally synced to devices and have been for awhile. Alternate artwork that has been changed and locked can revert back automatically even when locked just by playing that content. Forum mods say this won’t happen and yet it does bringing me back to their terrible support structure. It’s time consuming to deal with the many bugs that exist and continue to show up with each release. There are problems that were reported by multiple people in 2015 for example and the issue remains, five years later. I bought a lifetime subscription and wish it had the support it deserves because it definitely doesn’t..Version: 7.1

Was good. Now so soNot a huge fan of the direction they’re going. New Home Screen loses half of the viewable space up front and is a very copycat approach. Absolutely driving me crazy that notification settings don’t work. Turn off media shared with me, get notified of every piece of media shared with me. Turn on media added to my library, haven’t received even one. Plex probably needs to slow down a bit and fix some bugs before continuing down the path they’re going, and that continuation should involve some really careful consideration of whether they’re doing things because everyone else is doing them..Version: 8.2

Could be exceptional, but...Overall, Plex is a very good app, but it has a lingering issue that means I can’t give it 5 stars. If we start with the pros: Great interface Support for a huge array of media formats Support for all of the devices I use to watch my media Super easy to set up remote access so you can stream on the go However, ever since I started using Plex (nearly two years ago) the mobile sync has felt like it’s been stranded in beta. Every time I open the app and sync starts, the app is unresponsive for a good ten to twenty seconds. This is really annoying, especially if you only want to use your phone as a remote control. I have a large(ish) music library from which I sync c. 9000 songs to my iPhone - others report the same issue on the Plex forums. Another omission from the app is the ability to create playlists on your mobile device. Currently you have to create them on the server and then sync them back to your phone. This is both cumbersome and unintuitive (has worked well for many years in iTunes etc. so shouldn’t be difficult to implement?). It would be great if the developers could focus on nailing bugs like these that have been present since forever rather than adding ancillary features like News. If this were fixed the app would be perfect..Version: 4.25

Volume controls gone! :(Brilliant app! However, lost the ability to control the volume with the last update! Such a pain in the... please rectify, and your 5 star rating is back! ;).Version: 6.3

Barely worksLots of issues with playback and downloads. Not worth buying premium for..Version: 8.32

Latest update is garbageYour latest update to fix crashes now makes the app crash. Congrats on a terrible job..Version: 5.11.1

It mostly ok. Needs better Chromecast and subtitle supportUse extensively for casting media from a local Plex Media Server to a Google Chromecast. Ironically that seems to the Plex app’s weak spot. It you pause a show and come back after some time, Plex can’t or won’t communicate with the Chromecast, even though it will either display on the TV the show or the Plex “ready to cast” screen. I have to close the playing show and then (optionally browse to the show) hit play on the episode from the season list. I’ve also notice sometimes it can’t find the Chromecast, yet it shows up on other iOS devices. Sometimes it will claim to be casting, but the chrome cast doesn’t receive/process requests from the Plex app Why can’t I use the Plex app to fetch a new subtitle file. Say from OpenSubtitles or similar? Have a look at Infuse app and see how useful it is..Version: 5.7.2

Who is in charge of interface design?Look, Plex is great for what it can do....but man alive, this is the most unintuitive, hard to use, worst designed software I have ever used....and I am a software junky. Tear it down, rebuild...interface is awful, nothing is where you think it should be, nothing makes sense whatsoever, good luck giving this to a kid to use..Version: 7.9

Not worth it !Always lagging and asking to purchase plex pass and after purchasing it still pops up to purchase again. Playback for videos is limited. Super annoying..Version: 8.29

Regret purchaseWe purchased the lifetime pass and for the last year and thought Plex was great. The recent tornados here in Kentucky took out our power and internet. So we are running on generators to power items and intended to power the tv, to allow all the children to be entertained that are in our shelters. The Plex app on the tv, failed us terribly. With no internet, the Plex is useless. We can find the sever, and even see the children shows, but everything fails to play, and or starts to load then crash. Our entire community feels let down by Plex, and I’ll have to figure out other solutions going forward. Our entire city has now seen the failure of Plex, and how useless it is. Keep this in mind should you ever find yourself in this situation. Our temporary solution was to hook up a laptop and connect to the synology server manually, then search through the folders to play in media center to the overhead projector. Plex has let us down severely..Version: 7.26

This app would be a good one, IF only....The Plex app is pretty great, IF I only wanted to watch movies on my iPhone 11. It will NOT connect to my LG tv nor will it screen share 100% of the time. In fact, I can get it to screen share maybe once in 10 times that I try. I can open the app, start screen sharing, and if for some reason I have to close the app or stop screen sharing, it completely stops working and I get a black screen when I try to start screen sharing again. As far as casting to the tv goes, forget it. That isn’t even an option with this app from my iPhone 11. I have tried numerous ways to fix the problem, but so far no luck. I don’t have time to figure the problem out either. For me, when I sit down to try and watch something, I want to be able to see it on my tv with ZERO issues because I almost never have time to actually sit down to watch tv. This app just does not work for me in this regard so its basically useless..Version: 7.16

You’ve broken a good app!A camel is a horse designed by a committee as the old saying goes. This update is the same. What was once an easy to use interface is now totally useless. What took one click now takes 4 or 5 to get to. It is difficult to navigate and cluttered with useless and duplicated media posters. Cannot personalise it by adding useful items to the home screen. News and podcasts? This is supposed to be an interface to access media on your home server, what’s the point of those? You’ve ruined what we all paid for, read the Plex forum postings from hundreds of disgruntled paying customers about this latest update!.Version: 5.0.3

Media networking made very tiresome at the momentAs a visually impaired user of the IOS app, I am always having to use the app with Apples Voice Over text to speech running to be able to navigate around. This has been fantastic for those like me and those people who may have had to help out when possible in the past. However the latest version has not fixed the 3D Touch problem with voiceover turned on you cannot bring the controls up, which is quite annoying and now leaves me, and for the lack of a better word, blind. The other really irritating NEW thing is totally unresponsive playback controls, where the only way to get it to shut up is to manually close the app. When you do run it again and try to play something, you may now have two different things playing at once, this is probably the AI trying to make up for lost time and just cramming more in. Pretty please Plex team fix my miracle media machine..Version: 5.11.1

Plex is not worth your moneyI’ve been a plex pass member for about 2 years and I have the plex lifetime subscription. Plex used to be quite a good solution for managing personal media but it has only gotten worse and worse over time. Issues I frequently encounter are: clients not being able to connect to the server, EXTREMELY slow loading times for things like displaying a single photo (I’m talking minutes), videos downloaded to devices not playing properly, camera upload failing to upload new photos, app becoming unresponsive after pausing playback and generally a laggy UI all around. The server I’m running plex on is very powerful (it has a Xeon E5 CPU) and my network is capable of gigabit speeds so there are no bottlenecks here that are affecting performance. My advice to anyone thinking of paying for plex - save your money, it’s really not worth it. There are simply far too many issues to justify it and it seems like many of these issues will never be fixed because I’ve been experiencing some of them for years..Version: 4.21

Just stay with a web browserI like Plex quite a bit, but the app has one very annoying feature that is a showstopper for me, so I’ll be uninstalling the app. The problem is that there is no way to reliably watch in landscape mode, and on a smaller screen that is critical. Initially I discovered that if you open the app with the phone in landscape, then the movie would play in landscape, but if I tilted the screen, it would go back to portrait and I had to close the app and restart again with the phone in landscape. Ugh. I tried the tips I found, and I was very hopeful that the three dots>screen preference (or whatever it is) would work, but after countless attempts, only once have I been able to get the three dots even to respond with the movie open (which is the only place the option is available). And while I was overjoyed when it worked, the next time I opened the app, it was right back to portrait. And guess what? When I closed and reopened the app with the phone rotated to landscape, it opened in portrait. Double-ugh. There are lots of things I like about the app, but this is a killer. It’s like driving a car that will only go in reverse. Please, Plex, fix this. Put that setting in the main options from the main screen so it is globally available. When I see that as a bug fix in a future release, I’ll reinstall. But for now, goodbye and good luck..Version: 8.32

Needs some TLCI love Plex but the iOS app can use some more attention. I don’t allow my server to be exposed externally so I use the offline sync feature for when I’m away. Now, whenever I open the app it will start in offline mode like I left it before (I can see the big red banner) but it will attempt to connect to my server still. I’ll pick from the list of sources in the top left corner but it only shows my server as an option and it’s offline. To get around this, you have to open preferences and click the offline toggle 2 or 3 times usually before you can access your offline content. Another issue is that it frequently crashes when I pause the music with my headphones, I’ll unlock it and have to relaunch the app. It’s a good app, but not a great experience. I’ll be happy to rate it higher if the first issue will get fixed. EDIT: new update, unfortunately worse in performance. Same issues stated above but now includes that for whatever reason if I pause my offline music or get a phone call, then go back to resume, the music just stops playing. Sometimes the scrubbing bar moves as if it is, sometimes not. But hitting the play/pause buttons don’t do anything so I must kill the song and play a different one. I really love Plex but this app is going downhill..Version: 5.9.1

?How tf do you even watch movies.Version: 5.15.1

Stop putting ad-supported TV and Movies on my home screenWorked great until they started injecting their own movies and shows on the home screen. Whenever I remove them they “magically” reappear. Isn’t it enough that I pay for a Plex Pass?.Version: 6.5.2

App UX is abysmalWhile Plex has been with me as a media management tool for several years and I have no plans to change that, the iOS app has been decreasing in quality lately. Instead of mimicking the layout and modus operandi of the pc and Apple TV version (or even the version in smart TVs) it has gone its own, untested way. Instead of showing your libraries by default, it arbitrary selects movies, TV Shows, recommendations, and some other nonsense that has nothing to do with my libraries. I end up finding all my other libraries under ‘other video’ and from there, to chose and engage with each is a mess of touch, touch, select...touch...and so on. Why don’t you either copy your Apple TV version, which world grand or at least copy Apple’s own TV app? The browsing experience in the current app is probably one of the less intuitive, less intelligent UX flows ever conceived..Version: 5.15.1

Love Plex, App needs Polish. This app constantly crashes and the new downloads are a nightmare. If it downloads, which is a big if. The media might still not work when you go to use it..Version: 8.14

Side menuI have had this app for a few years and it works fine normally. But I use mainly on Roku box. I don’t know what has happened but I am unable to get to or navigate the left hand side menu. This has been for the last month or so. I can navigate the right hand side of the screen and have been using the search button to try to find the content, very time consuming. I have three rokus on different sets for a number of years with no problems, but now they all have this problem..Version: 7.19

MacOS SupportThis app needs better macOS support or the desktop app needs to support Apple silicon..Version: 8.13

Last upgrade wrecked podcast namesOn my iPad Air 2, AppleTV 4 and iPhone 8 Plus, all running the latest version OS iOS 13, I have my downloaded podcasts stored in my Music in a library named Podcasts as Artist / Podcast Name / Season / Title. Worked fine until the last upgrade. Now all the episode titles are ‘untitled’. Titles of the rest of my music are still OK. Just noticed that the titles on my PC running the latest Win 10 have been affected also. They are all titled as the Artist. However, if I access the podcasts through my Podcast library things are OK on all devices. This is different than it used to be. Please fix. I removed my music/ podcast directory from the Music library. Now my podcasts only show up in my Music Podcast library but there is no way to sort them because they only show up if I choose ‘Newly Added’. Except on the AppleTV where they display properly. This used to be a really good app. Now it’s a joke. And I don’t like the way you try to commandeer the Home screen. I had it setup the way I liked but that’s all gone!.Version: 6.7.2

Plex Server is great….front end apps not so good.Whilst I love the Plex Media Server and overall interface of Plex I’ve noticed recently the front end apps have become really buggy. Most movies and TV are stuttering loads and it’s largely unwatchable and I’m running the latest Apple M2 Pro so it’s not the server. I’ve now migrated to Infuse which plays the media flawlessly and I shouldn’t have to given I pay for the Plex premium. This is becoming a big issue for me and looking for alternatives to Plex now..Version: 8.19

Rip OffHave been using Plex for years with no issues, Now it constantly asks me to buy premium pass to watch my own content all while forcing live tv down my throat and ads non stop. Will be searching for other options with a better mobile app.Version: 8.29

Money hungryI keep getting messages saying it wants me to pay part way through a movie! Then not even two minutes later it will ask you again!! Where is the {don’t show this message again buttton}!!!!.Version: 5.18

Would be better if they focused on core product bug fixesThis app gets the job done but the developers are so focused on new features like live movies and streams that just fail when you try to use them that they letting the core functionality of the app start to get worse and worse with bugs.. It really shows their core business models isn’t sustainable and I don’t have high hopes for the long term future of the business. If they shored up the core functionality like offline syncing to work with less bugs and then got the streaming content not to fail anytime you tried to use it this App might have a future..Version: 8.20

Just okKeeps crashing probably using too much memory..Version: 7.21.1

Podcasts r dumbTo many podcasts 🤮I like movies !! not really any good movies!!.Version: 6.11.1

No forced subtitlesApp is great but when streaming movies from Plex server to a device (let’s say Apple TV 4K Plex app) any subtitles that are forced (language translation for example) don’t play. The Plex app doesn’t even recognise them as a thing. All you can do is manually select the normal subtitles by manually leaving the movie. This is pretty crippling. If this issue was resolved it would be an immediate 5 Star review! I have found loads of complaints about similar things on the Plex Forums. Come on Plex! Fix this major issue please!.Version: 5.3

Great app a few bugsLove the app but there are a few annoying bugs: - you can’t shuffle or “play all“a one specific folder in the folder view of the library. you can “play all” the entire library, which consists of a few folders, but going to the individual folder and you can only play one video ( on apple tv you can play all / shuffle each individual folder) - you can’t select the top (first) video in the list of videos in the folder mode to add to a playlist: apparently some iOS element constraints weren’t accounted for and iOS elements are overlaying the selection There is no consistency in the control elements between iphone app, ipad app, apple TV app and macOs app - it’s like there are multiple teams are working on different platforms and they don’t talk to each other..Version: 8.1.1

Won’t restore activationI bought Plex app in Aug 2018. New version Aug 2020 says playback is limited to 1 min and Restore Purchase button does nothing..Version: 7.4

App keep crashingI just downloaded the app and it keeps asking me if I want to share my watch history with friends. It won’t let me select any option and the app crashes. This happens every 30 seconds..Version: 8.32

Worst update everI’m a lifetime Plex subscriber for the past 5 years and I absolutely hate this update! Bring back the choice of server, this email style “one inbox” is great for dumb users and frustrates the hell out of advanced users like me where I want control over which server delivers me which content! Sync chooses the slowest server every time where I have duplicates. Roll back this update or being choice of server back under advanced settings! I will continue to rate this app 1 star for every update till you do!.Version: 5.0.3

Needs improving transfer speedsTransfer speeds are still ridiculously slow (after conversion, which my Mac handles really fast). WiFi speeds both at home and the office are ultrafast fiber, so it’s not that either. Also, sometimes some items give you an error that they cannot be synced (again, after having been converted), even tho I’ve been able to transfer those same files in the past. Any other media apps are fast and deal with the same files some problem. Other than that (which to me is pretty important as I fly a lot), is a beautiful app..Version: 4.24.1

PIP not working with downloaded videosGreat app, just a little bug that PIP doesn’t work with the downloaded videos. Often I find trying to use PIP it often freezes the iPhone..Version: 7.27

Love plex but it’s not without issuesThe app is great when it works, brilliant for streaming your media when out and about but alot of the time it comes up no files found or crashes when I try to stream to chromecast, also it says supports family sharing, but it doesn’t, to use the app you gave to pay £4.99 activation, that’s every time, not once for your family to share (up to 6 people) that was annoying because I wanted it for my daughter and thought it would be easier for me to buy on my account and then she could have it for free but they obviously hope for this to happen so then you have to pay twice..Version: 4.26

Total nightmare. While Plex is (briefly) working, it is great. But the second there is a problem it is the very worst example of A sends you to B, which sends you back to A, which sends you back to B, which sends you back to A, etc, etc, forever, with no help escaping the loop. The app is doing nothing except telling me to download the app!!! . I spent a week converting a spare old PC into a Linux based Plex server. I got my Terrabyte of films and music and every setting just right (be prepared to spend days fixing any compilation albums), and then started my paid subscription. The next day I accidentally clicked one button to hide my own films, and suddenly everything I need to fix that has vanished as well. Now, EIGHT ***KING HOURS of trouble-shooting later, I just can’t see any option except to give up and delete my account before I have another seizure. . IF there is any way out of the loop I’m in, then it is hidden better than that last Guardians Of The Galaxy easter egg that Marvel still says nobody has found, even all these years later..Version: 7.19.1

Limited contentJust got this but seems to have a very limited array of content. Not sure if this is a regional issue but there appears to be a lot of old movies, B/C rated content and double ups from other streams I already have. Be selective when purchasing you might want to short term commit and see if it suits your expectations. For the price you pay for lifetime subscription it definitely doesn’t meet mine..Version: 8.18

Disconnects constantlyWhenever I cast from iPhone to Chromecast, within 30 seconds of closing the app, the app disconnects and stops playback. The only thing that stops this is if I leave the app open for around a minute while it’s playing. It’s an annoyance, but otherwise I have no further complaints..Version: 7.15

No longer worksIt will no longer ever load a single video on Apple TV. Most frustrating experience..Version: 8.29

Crashes on openingIOS 10.3.3, iPad Please fix!.Version: 6.10

Clunky interfaceDespite using an iPad Pro 2018 model, scrolling down the home screen is jittery at best. When scrolling sideways through a library, it still only advances a couple of titles at a time, not taking advantage of the excellent kinetic scrolling inherent in iOS that literally every other streaming software uses. Oh and the most hilarious thing is they still haven’t fixed a lifelong bug which causes movie cast members to not be displayed in normal order you’d expect (which is only an issue in the iOS Plex app) I’m not knocking Plex, but rather their iOS app developers are seemingly quite lazy..Version: 6.11

Not like it used to beThis used to be my go to multimedia server Now you have to pay for everything and the UI is terrible I paid for the iOS unlock so I could watch more than 1 min on my iPad mini 2 and then wanted to play a game so I put plex on my mini 1 only to find out I'd have to pay to unlock again why is that in app purchase not tied to my Apple ID Very sketchy money making scheme Before you didn't even have to pay......goes to show you once you are popular you can charge whatever you want.Version: 6.7.2

Used to be greatPlex used to be a great app/service. However in its current form I couldn’t recommend it to anyone. Ever since the new download feature was released, downloads have become more and more unreliable to the point where now they’re unusable. Another issue is playback speed, this has been one of the most voted feature requests for almost 10 years now. The Plex team seemingly have no interest in implementing, or even acknowledging. 😞.Version: 8.13

Fundamentals don’t workPlex is excellent at finding information about your videos, showing pretty thumbnails and playing videos in the correct order. But it does not reliably play videos without problems (such as the video stream freezing or going black while audio keeps going). The same machine that serves up plex also does Airvideo and iTunes reliably. I use plex on different devices (some non-Apple) and all of them have these same fundamental problems. My advice would be to try the free version and see if it works. But I think you are asking for trouble subscribing to plex pass (their monthly subscription). Because the dev team is clearly working on new features rather than bedding down critical functionality..Version: 5.0.3

Cannot connect to chrome castNot sure why this doesn’t have the options for wireless connectivity to tv or chrome.Version: 8.27

Great server, ok iOS/iPadOS app, useless Apple TV appAs a server it’s great. Using the client apps on iPhones and iPads is good enough, though downloading movies to play while on airplane mode (in an airplane) doesn’t always work. The BIGGEST problem for my main case has been audio sync when using an Apple TV with a stereo pair of HomePods. Now it seems audio is finally synced using the new audio engine but only for a minute or so. It completely cuts out after about a minute (video keeps playing, no audio). Thankfully the Infuse app works flawlessly on Apple TV (and iOS/iPadOS) and can play ANYTHING from my Plex library. Infuse also has the benefit of being server agnostic (Plex, Jellyfin, Emby)..Version: 8.29
