American Mensa Brain Test for Negative User Reviews

Just mathsWow, lucky whoever compiled this test isn't in charge... just maths problems!.Version: 1.3.1

Not really an iq testMore really a case of practice and you'll get a high iq score which is a bit wrong if you ask me. I mean it gives you grids of numbers expecting you to realise that on a line it's the first two then subtract the third with its numbers the other way round?? I mean that's fine if you learn it and know that but really?? Let's put it this way, there's better and more realistic tests out there. Oh and before you ask, I got an above average score so it's not sour grapes ;-).Version: 1.1.0

No answers??What's the point of this game if you cant see the answers??? Waste of time and money!.Version: 1.1.0

Mensa pretty dumbIn principle this is a great app but, and it's a big BUT, there's no solutions on the tests and these's no way of knowing what answers are right or wrong. My score on the short test (20 questions in 20 minutes) was well above average but heavens knows what I got right and what I got wrong and what are the reasonings behind each answer. Pretty dumb app, which is pretty ironic considering........Version: 1.3.0

Useless and UnrealisticThese questions are very disimilar to the actual mensa test. The questions, in particular, finding the next number in a sequence, are frustrating, because they are not that complicated on the actual Mensa test, and there’s no rationale behind which pattern they’re choosing. They set them up in a particular way and you are left to try a million possible variations of equations (prime numbers?, multiplying?, subtracting?, divining?, a combined?, and finally one that had you add the first two numbers and then subtract the third number, but with the digits reversed...really?!) and hope that you find the right one that lines up with their logic. That’s not measuring your IQ, it’s just hoping that you get lucky and figuring out what kind of zany pattern they’re coming up with. There are literally thousands of possibilities and you could spend all your time going in the complete wrong direction. Very poor test and completely unrealistic to Mensa standards..Version: 1.3.1

LameTake the test but nothing to help you figure out how to improve score. Becomes a waste of time.Version: 1.3.0

Good Tests, Would Like More FeaturesThe tests are true to Mensa but the app is really basic. Would love more interactive tools.Version: 1.1.0

Keeps freezingAfter answering a question in the app, constantly the app is freezing and refuses to move to next question, thought the timer to continues to count down. Only way to continue has been to press the button on the top of the iPhone and then the home button, then slide finger to open the phone and it goes back to the app. Though, this is hardly satisfactory, I was giving it a go, when natural instincts took over and I pressed the home button by mistake to get out the frozen app, having therefore wasted half an hour. Don't think the app is suitable for original iPhone with iOs 3.1.3 Potential for the app is great, bugs make it a 2 star..Version: 1.1.0

Crashes CONSTANTLY, and "support" link leads nowhere. This game crashes constantly. It usually crashes somewhere around the last question, so after you've spent an hour or so taking the test, you get to the very end and your time has been wasted! Mensa - you need to FIX this. The short test seems to work okay, but the long test crashes at question 60, and the medium test crashes at the last answer AND makes the entire iPAD crash. Oh, and the support link leads you to a website that doesn't have any sort of contact link. Just links to the webpages of the company that made the game, and the mensa websites. There are no specific technical support links with regards to this specific game to be found. This is dreadfully clueless for an organization of people who are supposed to be the smartest in the world. Don't you use your products?.Version: 1.2.1

Far outdated with no landscape functionAny app that can’t spend the minimal effort it takes to function in landscape mode and accommodate a huge number of potential audience/customers, automatically receives 1 star until this very basic issue is resolved. Plus, one of the training examples has a clear error in it and provides the wrong answer..Version: 1.3.1

Fun for a little while, but....Repeated questions are really annoying. I think half the point of an IQ test is seeing how well you can answer questions you've never seen before. Once you see how the answer is achieved it is easier to answer questions of the same type, which does not mean you are smarter. There are only a few types of questions here, once you know how to solve them the whole test is easy. That said, there are a number of weird arithmetic problems that are plenty solvable with enough time (just mess around with various combinations of adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, permutating digits, etc) but they are unlike any questions I've seen before on an IQ test and they seem especially out of place on a timed test. They mostly test if you are lucky enough to find the correct string of operations in a short amount of time than they test problem solving and pattern recognition. These are the hardest problems, but I'm sure once I see or find the solutions to them they will be just as easy as everything else on here..Version: 1.2.1

No answers! In the practice you are shown the correct answers with an explanation, in the tests you don’t know how many answers you got correct or why one I correct ones are wrong!.Version: 1.3.1

Still not enough questionsIt's ok but, you know, it really should be easy to check. Sloppy presentation ( for example a question "which number replaces the '?'" and there is no "?". Makes me wonder how far the sloppiness continues. Questions are repeated way too often. Gets boring very quickly. You have no feedback about which questions you get wrong..Version: 1.2.1

Bad appReally bad.Version: 1.3.0

App does not open after download. Do not waste your money. No resolution. Will not open on phone..Version: 1.3.1

Brain exerciseA fun way to exercise the brain. Could be less repetition of the same questions however as this makes it easier to score more highly..Version: 1.1.0

SatisfactoryPractices are too short and being able to review actual answers would be nice..Version: 1.1.0

2013???I've downloaded this app cause I thought it was good considering it was from Mensa and when running the app I got a message saying this app will slowdown my iPhone and it looks terrible on my iPhone 7+. So now I see this is not updated since 2013????? How can you still ask for money for this? You should be ashamed!.Version: 1.3.0

Review questions are repeated with astonishing frequencyEvery 5 question review test will repeat at least one question from the previous review. one gets the sense there is a pool of less than 50 ?? question to sample from?.Version: 1.3.1

Decent testFun and challenging, but eventually becomes repetitive..Version: 1.1.0

Mensa brain testPoor. . .I expected much more from the folks at Mensa; same questions over and over, but no solutions; correctly answered all questions but one, very frustrating; I would say time (and money) well wasted, . . . I suppose I should say "well . . . wasted".Version: 1.1.0

Repetitive trainingThe training mode asks the same questions constantly and does not prepare the user for the testing mode. I find this disappointing. You also cannot see which questions you were correct or incorrect on and no solution is offered. I like the idea of this app but if needs improvement..Version: 1.2.3

Crash!Seems it could be a fantastic app, however when you wade through the whole test only to have it crash when it goes to work out your score, it can be a bit frustrating!!.Version: 1.2.1

I wish they have option for culture fair testAs a none English native speaker I found it’s difficult to answer vocabulary questions. I know Mensa USA has option to take cultural fair test (meaning no vocabulary question), and I wish this app has the settings where user can configure it to cultural fair or not..Version: 1.3.1

Some questions do not have a correct answerExample : 2 brown bread loaves + 2 white loaves = 4.80 2 white loaves = 2 pasties = 3.80 1 white loaf + 1 pastie = 3.20 ..... bottom equation doesn’t compute answers left we’re a pasty costs 0.80 and above.... Needs to rework its logic. A lot of the answers have no basis at all. Some do or are approximations..Version: 1.3.1

Quantitative biasThe "tests" under-represent one of the best predictors of general intelligence (progressive matrices) and severely over-represent one of the most narrow and least predictive indicators of intelligence: about 45% of the test questions on the tests measure quantitative reasoning. It is difficult to understand why, of 10 common domains, why the bulk of the questions would maintain an exceptionally narrow scope that is a poor predictor of general intelligence. The training questions, on the other hand, seem to have a more balanced assortment of questions from different domains. This app needs to be redesigned..Version: 1.1.0

Waste of money if you want to practiceYou can never see the solutions. It's a complete waste of money if your purpose is training..Version: 1.3.0

Not bad...Not a bad application. Not sure whether this is actually able to accurately measure your IQ as I don't really know what a real Mensa test consists of. Admittedly there are some strange questions in there that are more like puzzles than an actual test of cognitive reasoning. Like iv said it's not bad but what really let's it down is the fact that it gives absolutely no feedback or explanation to any questions. Therefore, as other people have said, the 'training' section is misleading. It's actually just a smaller test with no feedback or advice. Pretty disappointing, bearing in mind it's from Mensa, I expected more..Version: 0

Not a culturally fair IQ testQuestions are loaded so that people with a classical education are ranked high. A question like "if you using a 52 card pack of cards and pick an ace, what are you chances of picking another ace". Answers given: 1/13; 1/169; 1/225; and another one I can't quite remember - clearly the answer is 1/13 (or close to) because there is a presupposition that the deck has been reset without the first ace; but you could read into it that this is an overall chance; the question wording can be confusing if you are not careful. Also, their grammar questions are unusually hard using synonyms or words that may be related through a thesaurus as their answer choices. Only one is definitively right while the rest are close in meaning. Again, only classical intelligence is being tested here. STAY CLEAR OF THIS APP as it is not a culturally fair IQ test..Version: 0

WastedThe questions are not clear for ordinary people and this's not picture question for far. Wasted money time and energy..Version: 1.3.0

Too many repeatsGood fun, but a lot of repeating questions. Would be nice to see what your score means on a global level. Test questions with the theory behind answers is good. Would like to see more of them though...or maybe another app just for training.Version: 1.1.0

Nice if operatingGood app lol but doesn’t work cause developer won’t update it to iOS 11.Version: 1.3.0

Great idea, but needs more...The idea behind this app is great. But it needs a couple of things. Please put in answer key; show me what I got wrong. Also, it needs more practice questions; I keep running into the same question. After those two things are added, I will change to a 5 Star rating..Version: 0

LackingI just don't get half the puzzles in here and there is no explanation, so if you don't get them now, you cannot improve or ever understand them. A worked out example of each type of puzzle would be really helpful just to give you a clue as to what they are looking for and how the puzzles function. Previous (different) tests have put my IQ at about 145. This puts it at 90. Hmmm.... Frustrating..Version: 0

Interesting, but limitedThe ap does what it says, but once you've accessed any part of it, you'll find the same questions come up again - this makes it either a memory test, or something to tear your hair out with if you got stuck on that part the last time! A good mix of different types of test, but it becomes easy to see a training effect, for similar types of test question..Version: 1.1.0

Poor questionsSeveral questions could be answered in a few ways, such as “which is the most alike,” and you could measure that in multiple ways but it’s wrong unless you pick what they intended. A few word comparisons could also be argued in other ways that are perfectly valid. Some patterns, especially number patterns aren’t intuitive but simply require brute forcing until you find it. I also played it for a few rounds and already have had multiple duplicates. Don’t waste your money on this garbage..Version: 1.3.1

MattAn OK app but 'training' question base is too small - very repetitive..Version: 1.3.0

Clearly not made by geniusesThis app has a ton of potential. The 5-minute, 5-question tests are fun but are severely limited in content. I’ve seen the same questions over and over on future tests. They don’t even bother changing the numbers for math related questions. So as soon as you see a question you’ve done before you will likely already know the answer. The correct answers breakdown is also flawed. They show you the correct answer but not what you actually selected. So you might not actually remember which answer you selected. If they added more variety and improved some of the limitations this would be a great app to kill time and challenge yourself intellectually..Version: 1.3.1

Entertaining and strangely addictive. Both my husband and I have been using this app and enjoying the competition. Good variety of questions and the training session is helpful. Reason for 4* is that it doesn't tell you the questions which you got wrong, give you the correct answers or how you would achieve the right answer ( it does in training session but its only 5 questions) After a few shots realised the reason for this is because questions are repeated but I'm finding this frustrating..Version: 1.2.3

Not worth $1.99Per previous reviews, this app/game is frustrating. No feedback as to what you got wrong or right, so who knows if your score is based on the puzzles you thoughtfully figured out, or the ones you frantically chose as time ran out?? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I am a member of Mensa, and qualified by taking the official Mensa test, so I thought I would really enjoy playing games on this app... but, alas, I wasted $1.99. Maybe the other Mensa app I saw is meant to be more fun... (FYI, I recommend ordering the official practice test from Mensa if you want to get a more accurate idea of what to expect from the admissions test).Version: 1.3.1

Good but not greatHard to stay interested when u don't get the results. How are u supposed to know where u went wrong?? Even if it didn't tell u the answer and just indicated what qu's were wrong would b better than just getting a score that means nothing. Sadly for me a waste of money. Better of buying friends with words or similar, much more fulfilling just not the variety of mind teasers :(.Version: 1.1.0

AAAARRRRRRGH!Great app except for the same complaint everyone else has: it won't show you what you got wrong or an answer key so can learn how to solve a type of question. So incredibly frustrating. I can save the screen on my phone and go back and solve it later at my own pace, but it would be nice to have a solution guide. I hope the developers read the same criticism over and over from different folks and take heed!.Version: 1.3.0

A good startI enjoy using this app but feel that a few improvements could be made. The training could have a wider range of questions. Repeating the same question allows the answer to be memorised, but a number of similar but different questions would help the concept to be understood. It would also be helpful to to have the option to train in a particular area - number, logic, language etc. The feedback during training is useful; it would be great to get similar feedback and explanations after a test. If the app could respond intelligently to weaknesses revealed through the tests and focus training sessions on developing strength in these areas, this could become a powerful learning tool!.Version: 1.3.0

Needs more explanations and feedbackWhen you take actual tests, it doesn’t tell you what you got wrong or right or offer explanations for how to get the correct answer..Version: 1.3.1

Good but sloppyA good app, but many of the questions have been put together in a sloppy fashion and the questions themselves are not correct. This can be confusing since none of the answers are correct for some questions. Only by guessing and getting top score of 180 have I been able to prove that the questions are wrong. Have contacted developers to ask them to review these incorrect questions but no response. Would have expected more from Mensa's official app..Version: 1.3.0

Answers aren't rightSome answers I know are right but it says are wrong. Wish there was more questions too..Version: 1.3.0

Fun but drains batteryIt is quite an interesting app that covers some challenging tests but I have no idea why it wipes a full battery in almost less than an hour. This is the only app I have that does this..Version: 1.3.0

Always wanted to try it but it's poorJust because you have a low score on this doesn't make you thick and a high score does not make you clever. This test is only good at for certain peoples who's brain works in a certain way. Id save the £1.19 and spend it on something that won't cause frustration from the ridiculous questions. (p.s. No I am not stupid and this review does not come from me not understanding it, so for those reading it who 'he just doesn't get it' I do I just think it is an unnecessary test)!.Version: 0

Total rubbishThe assertion is made that it has enough questions to give original tests each time one uses the app - this is a total lie; they are constantly repeated. The test is limited, it tests maths, pattern recognition and literacy and nothing else. I have taken the test three times and have increased my score by half already and it'll probably tell me I'm a genius if I try it again because it doesn't test IQ, it tests your ability to learn the repetitious answers and methods..Version: 1.1.0

RepetitiveDoes not show what questions were wrong or why they are wrong...would be nice....Version: 1.2.1

Needs more questionsNeeds more questions, and answers as to how questions are solved.Version: 1.2.3

Not good for developmentThis app doesn't tell you where you went wrong, just gives a score at the end. This is fine if you just want to test your IQ, but personally I'd like to know which questions I got right. Maybe it's meant for smarter people than me..Version: 1.3.0

App doesn’t even openIOS 17.0, app opens for a second and immediately closes. Pls refund I paid 1.99 for this.Version: 1.3.1

Good ideaI love the idea of a brain training app, as do lots of people, this however is way too hard to keep me interested for so long! Clearly the market is there for a similar app just needs to be thought about a bit more!.Version: 1.1.0

Good but needs workThe app is good and worth getting but there are some aggravating features about it. 1. Practice test repeated same question very very often. 2. Because of number 1 it makes you want to just practice with real tests but the real tests offer no summary like the practice tests do. So you have no way to find out which questions you got wrong and no "why" button so you can learn what you did wrong. Because of the above the app ends up being less useful than I was hoping. Hope they can adjust these problems..Version: 1.3.0

$2 and all it does is crash.$2 and all it does is crash..Version: 1.3.1

The content is nice but...The content and the mechanic is nice but found two things that annoys me. If you're listening music the app stops it everytime you select an answer even if you have muted the phone. The other one is that the training questions are too repetitive and sometimes the same question appears several times in consecutive training sessions. If they improve those two points I will give 5 stars..Version: 1.2.3

App crashesI literally just downloaded it and it crashes as soon as I click on it.Version: 1.3.1

Doesn’t work.I could not run the app on my iPhone which it iOS is the latest version..Version: 1.3.1

Nice concept, but could use improvementThere are not enough questions to choose from. I keep seeing the same questions from previous tests reappearing. Ideally, there should be so many questions that the chance of that happening would be very slim. The training mode allows you to see which questions you got wrong at the end and offers a "why" button on the upper right to give an explanation. The actual tests do not. I wish the actual tests also had this feature. A few of the questions seem to be testing on knowledge rather than reasoning. For example, there was a question asking how many degrees are in an angle of an octagon. Although you could hypothetically figure that out with reasoning alone, that question would be biased in favor of someone who actually learned that recently. Also, some of the questions can be solved using equations that we learned in middle school but may have forgotten by now. I also would not recommend this test to non-native English speakers because they may not know some of the vocabulary words in the verbal portion of the test (and they will lose time looking it up)..Version: 1.1.0

Which ones did I get wrong????Quite fun, except that without knowing which questions you got wrong, it cannot be a meaningful learning exercise. So the player needs to be able to swipe back through a completed test to see how they did on each question. Game needs a time-unlimited display for each question page which says 'Correct' or 'Wrong' or 'Unattempted'. Also, an option to eliminate the time limit when actually doing the quiz would be good for users who want to think for longer. A score penalty could be incorporated for this..Version: 1.3.0

DisappointingI really enjoy challenging myself mentally and thought app this would be an excellent way of improving my mental ability. Sadly there is no way to improve as there are no explanations on how the mathematical problems are solved and one remains none the wiser! What’s the point of that…?!.Version: 1.3.1

Needs iOS updates version... for the 64 bit architecture coming in iOS 11..Version: 1.3.0

TestingQuite a challenge.Version: 1.3.0

TerribleThere's a difference between puzzles and complete nonsense. The connections they make between the various circle and square symbols are ridiculously stupid and the only part of the test that requires some form of intelligence is the grammatical section where it says "blah is to blah as blah is to blah". All the rest of it is pattern recognition which apart from a little bit of brain power required is utterly useless and inaccurate at telling you any form of intelligence. Make a proper test app, Mensa..Version: 1.1.0

Immediately crashesCan’t even open the app. Waste of money..Version: 1.3.1

Repeats problemsThe training mode just continually repeats problems you’ve already solved or attempted and already know the solutions to, so it’s pretty much useless..Version: 1.3.1

Ok but...It's interesting and it's a great way to get my brain started in the morning but it doesn't tell you which questions you got wrong when you do the full test, or why you got them wrong. So I keep guessing on the same questions because I dont know how to figure out the answer and that bugs me. I want to known where I went wrong so I can get better. But it's a good way to start the morning.Version: 1.1.0

Please update your app for 64-bitYour app is no longer supported in iOS 11. Please update your app..Version: 1.3.0

Unsure about reliability of scoringI began by taking the short version test, and despite feeling as though I did rather well, I only scored 111 (quite a bit lower than I'd expect of myself). Struck me as odd, so I then tried the medium test, and scored 125 which is around what I expected in the first place. I don't know why my score was so much lower on the first occasion, considering that the medium test questions were entirely fresh, so I couldn't have taken advantage of any repeated questions. Indeed it's odd, but otherwise some nicely devised questions..Version: 1.3.0

Snooze festConstant recurring questions Not worth the money.Version: 1.3.1

Brain challengeWould be better if you can see which answers are wrong and the right answers. Still, fun and challenging!.Version: 1.2.1

Great!Love it. That's the app.Version: 1.3.0

Won’t open !How do I get my money back ?.Version: 1.3.1

Lots of potentialThis app has a good layout and core content, but is missing a few small yet important details. At the end of a test you are only given the number of correct answers. You aren't told which questions you missed nor why your answer isn't correct. It's hard to learn if you can't figure out why you were wrong..Version: 0
