Maps 3D PRO - Hike & Bike for Negative User Reviews

Cool IdeaStill no big improvement this release, slow to download map, slow rendering, gaps between zooming in. Cool idea, in practice, not quite useful.Version: 2.4

UselessWhen you've tried downloading a map for three times but still failed, you know what I mean..Version: 4.0.2

Planning routes can be frustrating/impossible at timesThe app is useful, but like many others it can be frustrating when trying to plan a route. Often times there may be small gaps or sections of unmarked trail between established trails on the map. There is no way that I have found to use a combination of route calculation AND direct path measurements within the same planned route. So either the route calculation winds around an obscure path to connect 2 route points, or you’re stuck connecting a million route points, even on the parts that cover established map trails. Really there should be a setting to be able to change the routing options between set route points, instead of just for the whole planned route. Other features seem great, but I really wanted this app to accurately plan routes ahead of time, and it just doesn’t deliver in that realm..Version: 5.3

Unstable rubbishThe app is unstable rubbish. The first track that I've recorded does not open on the device, I had to export it and view in different app on desktop. When I was recording second time, the app just crashed after six hours, so I've lost mount Taranaki ascent and descent, which is pretty frustrating. Next day same happened, lost 8 hours track. App just crashes and you loose your recording. Author could have implemented something like a runtime backup, I don't know. My device is iPhone 6..Version: 4.1

AdequateWell defined routes and pretty accurate but the contours in 3D are sometimes well off the mark. Too many times it looks almost flat between two way points but in reality there can be hundreds of feet of difference. As for mapping out routes always add about 15-20% extra to the total, every time I’ve mapped out a route the final distance is always way more, no matter how accurate i try to be..Version: 6.4

Would not recommend. This app is extremely slow on the 6 plus. I would not recommend it at all. Cool features but is barely usable with how much it freezes up. Want me money back. Zero stars if I could..Version: 4.1.1

Best Backpacking GPS Map on the App StoreI’ve tried many apps for using GPS while on long hikes. This one always works well. It’s worked well for years and years. Thanks to the people who make it for making something great..Version: 6.6

Too slowIt is too slow downloading maps, and also, it does not integrate the maps as one, therefore you have to select a map every time you change area..Version: 2.7.1

Haven't been able to get it to workDeleting thus off my phone. Keeps saying not enough info. If u are on edge of phone service-- like where u usually are when hiking this is useless.Version: 2.6

Doesn’t Save Waypoints or Maps in BackupI love the way this app works. BUT, I have lost waypoints and your maps have to be re-downloaded after a phone change/upgrade (due to a technical issue with iOS). I was able to export waypoints that were part of a track, but Tracking can drain your battery life. The current version does a better job of exporting tracks, but all my waypoints that were not part of a track are gone when I upgraded to the iPhone 8+.Version: 4.1.4

A bit buggyWhen it works it’s quite good. But does crash a bit. Lately it is not possible to open a gpx file via any of the outlined methods..Version: 5.3

Slow Map DownloadsThe offline map downloads are unbelievably slow. It took about 10 minutes to download 60mb over WiFi. It does not download in the background, which means you lose full functionality of the app for the duration. Large map chunks appear to be around 3gb... so if you did want to download a large chunk don’t plan on using the app today..Version: 5.1

Terrible clunky appThis is one of the least intuitive apps I’ve ever used. The interface is clunky and tries to over complicate things when it would be better just sticking to being an offline open source map. Trying to find a location in somewhere like Canada is nearly impossible in the fly as place names only appear when you hover over the location for a while. Even on wifi half the maps don’t load fully. Waste of even the small amount of money it cost to get the ‘pro’ version, I won’t be trusting it on a hike..Version: 5.4

Cannot create a track as map is not detailed enoughCannot create a proper track.Version: 5.1

Looks ok so far but Apple Watch support needs lots of improvementNeeds complications icon for Apple Watch faces, and the ability to move around the map on the watch. I had hoped to just use this app for planning a days snowboarding off piste just using the Apple Watch series 4, but the watch interface is very limited right now..Version: 5.3

Good app, but no version for the iPadGood app. I really like its 3D layout of maps, but unfortunately you can’t get a full screen version for the iPad even though I paid for it..Version: 5.4

There are better options out thereNot a bad app; however not great. First, the maps are raster based which means long download times, slow loading and huge file sizes. These days, vector based maps are where it's at. The 3D feature sounds neat but in practise, it's kind of a gimmick and unless you're in a really mountainous area, the effect is pretty subtle. The app has track recording as well as routing features; however the latter is pretty useless for a trip of any distance due to the map file sizes ; I guess you could try relying on live map downloads over cellular but at that point why not just use the superior Google maps? Lastly, support is lacking. It's a paid app and the developers have dropped support for all iOS versions except iOS 7 and have even cited a "new interface". Well based on the screenshots, it looks exacly like the last version. C'mon devs, I know Apple is pushing hard for iOS 7 domination but many devs are at least supporting iOS 6; you can to..Version: 3.4

GPS not avaiable.I purchased couple a days, until now its now working. Its said GPS not available.can you pls fix it. Or refund my money..Version: 3.2

Poor User InterfaceI was looking for an app to provide a reasonable user interface for Opencyclemap. Well, this app has the maps but that's about it. I can sort of navigate around so I guess the app does what it's supposed to do but, boy, what a poor user interface. If you are used to the haptics of Google Earth or Apple's own Maps app you'll be horribly disappointed. I could write pages about what's wrong with this app but the bucks I spent for it are already way too much so I will surely not make another investment for nothing. Since I have not found anything better yet, I will probably keep using the app for a bit but as the next best thing comes around I'll be happy to ditch it. Oh my... so sad to see hardly any mapping app with a reasonable UI..Version: 6.3

No iCloud syncI like it but if you change phones you loose all your waypoints and maps and tracks all over because the app does not save that to cloud.Version: 6.4

Great app with quirksGreat off line GPS app with some irritating bugs/quirks: - I only can display one track at the time - it would be nice to be able to display multiple tracks at this same time, - bicycle map appears in download menu, but not in map menu.Version: 3.4

Maps 3D ProFirst time I used it said "no detailed map loaded" on a track that was well established on every other (paper based) map of that area. What a joke... careful what you buy on line, there's some serious junk out there. Maps 3D Pro... A big fail..Version: 4.1.4

Misaligned 3D Rendering to 2D contour mapMisaligned 3D rendering to 2D contour map. Is there a way to align them? I can tell the misalignment because mountain peaks should be at the center of contour circles in which they aren’t. Other than that the 3D map looks amazing. However I would not recommend this for hiking because of the issue mentioned. The area I am looking at is Pinnacles National Park in California USA..Version: 5.0

TerribleApp crashes every time I try to open imported GPX file. Useless waste of money..Version: 5.2

...J'arrive pas a utiliser la fonction GPS.Version: 3.2

Only has iPhone interfaceWARNING, I bought this app thinking it had the iPad interface. Instead it is a small iPone. Hard to read. A waste of money! Suggestion to developer - get it iPad ready. The 3D needs to be on a bigger screen. I should add this could be a phenomenal App if on the iPad..Version: 2.7.1

Do not buy look for free versionGlitchy, maps slow or wont load, corupted, etc. Found free version from same developer which works very good but waste of $6 for this and cant get refund..Version: 5.1

Used to be the best hiking&skiing appAs long as you have an internet connection in the mountains! The maps download function, for offline use, was taken out. You have to sign to another service (every trail) to do so, but just got errors. I paid for it the to be able to download maps. Going back to messy motionx. goodbye 3d maps....Version: 3.4.1

Support pleaseI tried looking for support before giving a one star rating, but the link took me to a video of a man on a mountain trek using the app. This wasn’t very helpful. I purchased the app for my Apple Watch. So far I have been unable to view a map on my device, although I have successfully downloaded maps onto my iPhone. If the developer is reading this please could you help me sort this out as I want to be happy with my app purchase and to use it..Version: 5.4

Not bad - but room for improvementI purchased this app because I've been looking for a way to create routes for use with Cyclemeter. It's not bad, but has a few annoying features. It needs a landscape view. It zooms far too easily accidentally when moving the map to navigate a longer route. And most annoying of all, it only does the snap to roads on calculation of the track, which as a result needs to be done regularly, so as not to miss an unanticipated diversion. Lastly on completion of a planned route there seems to be no way to get a rapid full screen view of the whole route, and though I can easily save a route its not clear how I can cancel it and restart with a single tap. However, I will persevere with this app because some things are very good. The cursor positioning is good, the off-line maps and elevation data are good, and the export and import with Open-In to and from other apps is excellent. Not money wasted at all, this app is better than many I've tried. An iPad version would be great, too..Version: 3.1

Disappointed in changeMy hiking group used Maps3D ALL the time exclusively because we were able to exchange tracks via email. Now, when it is emailed, it comes up with gibberish. What happened? We are now exploring different apps to use that we can send GPX. Also, lately, it’s not been working as well. Very difficult to bring up the map whilst hiking. Just grid lines...so disappointed as I’ve used it for four years now and I have so many tracks in there. Would love it, if it could be resolved. That would be a five star rating..Version: 5.3

OK for hiking, not good for longer drives👍shows topo trails 👍nice 3D rendering 👍nice post-route infographics 👎limited map tiles - have to be manually switched for a different area 👎up to 45min upload for detailed map over wifi?!? 👎map upload doesn't match the full requested selection! 👎routing not available - only tracks are able to display 👎no directional facing arrow on the map - one has to walk for a bit in order to determine the heading direction 👎ponds, creeks and streams not always visible 👎text is imbedded in maps and not always facing you. (Not driver friendly app).Version: 2.7.2

Not a bad option.[Update] My initial review was based on an experience involving a bad connection. Once that was sorted out it actually worked as advertised, though it still loads slowly when tested on numerous internet platforms. Unless you intend to buy the full app (in app purchase) there my be better free apps out there for planning a trip. If you are intending to go all in, I think it is a very helpful app to visualize an area you are thinking of hiking through. I have not used it on the trail, so I can’t add any info about using it in the field..Version: 5.3
