Tea for Positive User Reviews

Potential for greatnessGreat start, Sam. I really dig the UI and design elements. As an avid tea drinker, I appreciate all of the attention to detail and choices. However, I feel like I'm forcing myself to use this app. It's main function is a timer, which can vary depending on the type of tea. To get to the timer though, you have to first pass through several inputs and the entire process can be a hassle, especially when in a hurry. The inventory tracking is a nice addition, but again, can be a hassle considering you can just look into your bag/tin to see how much is left. I was hoping the app would include some sort of tea community which featured user opinions and reviews of different blends (something like Steepster for iOS) that also let you attach pictures of the leaves. With something like that, I would definitely make continued use of the app. It's clear that Sam is very passionate about this app and I'd like to see it incorporate these features to truly unlock its potential..Version: 1.02

Tea for me!! ^_^This app is perfect for helping me decide which of my stash to have and to know whats in the cupboard! Just what I needed! Only way to improve would be a search option but that's just me being picky! Thanks!! ^_^.Version: 1.21

Good appI'm enjoying this ap. A few things would make it even better. I'd love to be able to sort by type if tea (ie oolong) or organize them by rating. Other than that, it's a pretty solid ap..Version: 1.22

Great update!I liked this app before, very easy to use with a clean layout, the 2.0 update just made this hands down the best tea app you can get. Great job!.Version: 2.01

Wonderful :)Wonderful app. I suggest a custom tea type option. Otherwise, I love the simple design and lovely extra features for getting the perfect brew..Version: 1.23

ItI'd tried all the tea timers currently available but hadn't found anything to be that much better than the timer in Clock. Tea does exactly what you'd want from a tea timer and then that little bit more. Overall it's a surprisingly neat little package or perhaps more aptly SFTGFOP(1)!.Version: 1.02

A few things missingThis app is very good and very comprehensive. However, there are a few things missing. I would love to be able to add the option of more infusions each time I go back to a certain tea. I will often place my tea leaves in a bowl to let them dry and come back for a third, forth or fifth infusion the next day or so. The way the app is now you cannot add infusion notes after you're initial tasting of a tea which can throw my inventory calculations off. Also, it would be great to have some sort of feature to address the different methods of steeping, i.e. gaiwan, yixing, iron kettle (not recommended), tea ball, etc. At home I use certain methods of steeping but in my office I use other, quicker and easier methods. Adding this function would allow for a deeper more layered note taking that would encompass my entire tea drinking life. Lastly, the "type" section where you add a new tea, needs to include flavored teas, blends, and home-made blends..Version: 1.1

Great app for tea drinkersThe encyclopaedia section is brilliantly presented and informative (although not entirely comprehensive- no mention of common spiced blends like masala chai, and no lavender in the list of herbal infusions) The brew alarm and blender's notepad will start me experimenting with blends at home..Version: 2.01

Amazing! It's like having an amazing bank of all the tea you tasted. Everything is really clear and easily understandable. You also have a lot of possibility to try other measurement/ infusion time, etc. A must have if you love tea!.Version: 1.21

QUESTIONHi there! I like this app but I just bought it really for the encyclopedia as well but the button is not appearing at the bottom of my screen?? Just wondering if anyone else had this issue??.Version: 2.02

Perfect companion for the novice to tea guru alikeCurrent Version: Nice update bringing a couple bug fixes and introducing Quick Mode and Vibrate when on silent. Only downside to Quick Mode is that if you increase your brew time with each infusion the Quick Mode will use the last set time. Would be nice to set a default value for each tea but using the new Skip Timer feature after the needed time has elapsed works just fine for now. ------- Version 1.02: Very easy to use and a beautiful design/ interface; worth every penny. Great app overall for version 1, only a few minor things to update/ add. Things I would like to see in future versions (in order of importance): - Vibrate/ sound when on silent when timer ends - Add a Year/ Season so it don't have to be added it to the name - Add a Favorite section so you can easily make that perfect cup again instead of having to search or scroll through your history - Make the Tea Scratchpad less prominent - Make a threaded view (allow for turning on and off in the settings) for the multiple infusions.Version: 1.1

Best Tea App for Serious Tea DrinkersI’ve been using this app for years so before I updated my iOS devices to iOS 11 I had to resurrect my old old iPod Touch 4 to devote to this app. Now that the app has been updated I can use it on a device with a functional battery. Also, the encyclopedia is once again accessible. It has all the features that a serious tea drinker need. I can set up each variety of each tea I own e.g. an individual entry for each oolong. Then I can record the tea qty relative to the pot size and the app adjusts the qty for each pot i own. It remembers the time and temperature for each tea and then times each steep with the built in timer. I can adjust the brewing parameters for the next session which is helpful with new teas. Sometimes the features are hard to find, like adjusting the quantity of tea when you change the pot size, but they’re there and worth looking for..Version: 2.03

Really like this appExcellent interface Easy to use Enhancement requests: - Archive - Reminder to restock - stock overview - photo of your stock - rating - notes.Version: 2.02

Still A Work In ProgressSuper sleek and amazing - but like all new things there's a few bugs that need fixing..Version: 1.02

Very Useful AppGreat for a tea lover to get organised and store the results of your brewing experiments in search of the perfect cup. Responsive developers too.Version: 1.21

Needs some tweaks for five starsPlease add a Green (Korean) selection, or allow us to edit this ourselves to add categories important to us. For example, Korean tea (O'Sulloc) has taken awards at the Tea Expo in Las Vegas, and goes through a light toasting process that makes the tea taste quite different from Chinese or Japanese teas. It's also brewed differently. Also, I'd like to categorize teas under fruit infusions or rooibos, rather than just "herbal." Please, I'd also like to be able to edit the type of tea later on so I don't lose the data I already have when you make this change. Please offer tea-themed skins to make the appearance, a wood look, more appealing. The tea diary and access to Facebook are a nice touch; adding an optional location with notes would increase the usefulness as the ambiance of a tea house or tea tasting in a shop adds to a drinking experience. I agree that adding an extra main category on brewing method would be helpful, as well as the ability to add pictures..Version: 1.1

Functional and BeautifulThis is the best functional tea cataloguing app I've found. The UI is a joy to behold. This should finally remove the confusion about what to do with which tea!.Version: 1.02

Great app!Since becoming a tea lover I have accumulated quite the tea collection. This helps me keep everything organized..Version: 1.22

Requires iOS 6I really like the app (1.23 version), and mainly use it for tracking inventory. Sadly, the new version won't install on my old iPod Touch because it requires iOS 6. Thought it might be worth mentioning, because I didn't see this requirement noted in any of the obvious places..Version: 2.02

SuggestionsI would add lots more teas to the encyclopedia. I wished to see jasmine and Da Hong Pao and didn't see either. :( Maybe a filter for the encyclopedia if you add more teas. Something that will sort them by category (white...puerh...green...etc). But definitely keep updating this app. I did not use it until 2.0. Thank you for a wonderful app!.Version: 2.02

For the tea enthusiast, this app is well worth it!Anyone with a ton of different teas around the house can easily have those off days, where one might forget the best time/temp, or when tired in the morning, it's easy to simply forget that you were steeping tea, while you're busy getting ready in the morning, only to remember and come back to an oversteeped green tea, now gone bitter. - This app solves that. This is also a great tool for tea shop owners. To make sure your employees prepare the tea just right, without having to memorize the usual 100 teas most tea bars have, simply have this app right there behind the counter for them as ipad or ipodtouch, and you'll forever be confident the tea is perfect..Version: 1.02

Great!Keep on the great job.Version: 2.02

Tea lovers companionAs a tea enthusiast, I've tried every tea timer for the iPhone. Once I tried this, I can't imagine using anything else. This app is clearly made for tea lovers, by tea lovers. It's obvious that the creators understand and respect tea. The app makes it perfect for folks to truly get the best cup of tea, just how they like it. It goes one step further, and allows you to get the full tea experience by recording notes about the brew, giving you time to reflect on the tea..Version: 1.02

Simple and Useful Tea Brew AppHas all you would expect. Tea steep time, weight and temperature. Acts like a mini journal where you can rebrew what you like. Features are nice. I love the seasons added to each tea. Picture taking, rating and share feature oh the tea's you brew is a nice add on. Pictured Encyclopedia help me figure out which tea I had since I threw the bag and forgot. Extra points! I hope one day the Encyclopedia can expand and you can export recommended Brew. A brew time sharing community would be nice add on. Maybe this in not the app for that, but I wish tea blends could be recommended and shared. :D.Version: 2.02

A simple yet elegant app!Great app for an avid tea drinker! It seems that the software is very well thought out. I like the ability to do multiple infusions of the same leaves. If only all apps were this good..Version: 1.22

The Perfect AppAs someone who was just starting to get into loose-leaf teas I was in the market for a good app to help me keep track of my steep times. I had tried a few other apps similar to this one (most of them free) and had yet to find one that was the perfect balance of function and design. I was immediately struck by how beautiful this app was and while at first I thought the asking price might have been a little steep (pun intended) I decided to give it a shot anyways. At the very least it'd look pretty. I was not disappointed. The timer feature works just fine. But its all the other features of the app that really make it stand out. The inventory feature alone is reason to buy the app, this combined with the history, recommended steep times, and the elegant and simple timer this is the perfect example of a beautiful app that's functionality is just as good as its looks. It'd be great to see the developers put out similar apps for things like Coffee, Wine, Beer, etc. Seriously, love it. One minor qualm: the icon is kind of ugly compared to the rest of the application..Version: 1.1

At the riskUpdate: September 8, 2011 Just noticed that you can record your stock of tea *bags* also! Awesome for me since I only have bags of tea at this point, but I'm also glad to know that I can keep a mix of some of my favorites in this app regardless of whether or not I've refined my own blend with the infuser yet or if I'd rather trust Twinings for a while longer  Original: At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, I didn't even know about using tea infusers or anything about tea other than steeping a bag in some hot water. Super excited about trying this app out in practice with my new (albeit cheap) infuser .Version: 1.1

Nice app, could be betterThe encyclopedia part of the app is what interested me, especially as it had a connected map feature which helps one visualize the geography and region of where the teas come from. I wish however the encyclopedia had some filters to search than a giant scroll down list. It could probably easily be added to help limit the searching to what someone may be looking for out of that list. Also the app could add other information like the terrior of the original growing region, and the main cultivars the plant originally came from. But overall this an amazing app for tea! Thank you to the creators.Version: 2.04

Only needs a better looking timerTimer doesn't match the theme of the app or the experience of brewing tea. Maybe change it to an analog or antique clock..Version: 2.02

Fantastic appFantastic app which is well made and easy to use. However an improvement I would like to see is that when you change the quantity of cups or ml you are making it automatically adjusts the amount of tea needed etc as a suggestion..Version: 1.1

Crashing on iOS 8Program worked well until I upgraded to iOS 8. Hopefully, a fix is on the way!.Version: 2.02

Great ReleaseI'm using this far more than I ever thought I would! Great for managing loose samples and bulk teas alike. I'm using this chiefly as a way to keep track of my massive inventory, and it's making me realize how much more quickly I rotate through teas than I would have suspected. That said, it would probably help this function to have an easier interface for subtracting quantities without going through the brew screens (can be a hassle when a full kilogram is used in a single weekend or if tea is given as gifts), though adding to stock is very easy. [2.0 UPDATE: Much easier to toggle since original review - there was a temporary glitch where teas would only be brewed as bags, but it was quickly fixed] I like the teaware volume logging idea another reviewer mentioned, though in small wares (like tiny gaiwans, Yixing pots, or Sand Clay pots) leaf quantity can lead to significant irregular displacement. Would be cool to incorporate, though, and pictures could be added when the online portion is ready. Maybe the ability to save and apply presets will save the effort of typing in remembered values of mass, volume, etc. [2.0 UPDATE: This has now been incorporated, it is simple to augment the ratio for water displacement, and you can actually cycle through and easily edit your collection! The new "next time" feature also helps in this regard. It is a little too easy to accidentally delete a teapot when expanding it, though - an "Are you sure?" prompt would be useful.] A scroll bar to help in editing reviews or a finger-slide scroll in the text box area would be very nice. [2.0 UPDATE: Now added and works well in the new tasting notes history log, which I used to never use but I'm now going through really frequently!] Overall, much better than I could have hoped for in an initial release. Perhaps a red outline box around suggested values on the brew screen will help in returning from parameter deviations as well as highlight that the brew screen is more than just a timer. Can't wait for the online tie-in down the line! [2.0 UPDATE: Encyclopedia tie in adds a lot of content. Calling a little more attention to the search bar in that section may be useful - a reviewer below didn't see a tea that is in the app (Da Hong Pao) when he/she would have found the group it is in an entry with if typing in the search field, which rapidly cycles through search tags and sorts the entries for possible matches, even if just partial in nature. More future additions I hope for are support for comparative tasting, being able to hop from the encyclopedia to brewing by tapping the suggested brewing window, and the archiving ability other reviewers have suggested. Additions to the encyclopedia section are coming, but as for increased features of the actual entries, I look forward to the addition of suggested similar tea types, the ability to send a notice via multiple means like an email or Facebook post instead of just a reminder in the To Do list app, a way to expand the name of the tea group in question to see common types/aliases, the ability to sort by tea type or click on the type in a page to present like teas, and a quick way to add to the inventory straight from there. Happy with the new update and impressed with how quickly the bugs are being fixed as they are found and reported (though there aren't many, so not too many updates have been needed) - keep up the improvements!].Version: 2.02

Great AppIt's a very well made app but still requires more work. Would be a very good idea to sort teas by type such as Wulong, Green Chinese, etc.. instead of going into more info to find out. Settings button when selected takes a few seconds to long to access and sometimes it seems that Tea app is frozen. Also would be great is to delete unwanted history list which my current version doesn't support. I selected brew by mistake and know I can remove from history list. There should also have a remove button for removing old teas that you may want to remove. Can't delete "Example Tea" from list. All said it's a great investment for any tea drinker either beginner or expert..Version: 1.22

Super little appI love this app. It's fun and easy. I'm a semi-serious tea drinker with a pretty good collection which I'm finally able to inventory. The app is helping me pay better attention to my tea, instead of just dumping some leaf in a teapot and steeping it until I remember it's there and then just slurping it down I see other users asking for lots of new features, so i'll add my own: I wish I could post my reviews to blogspot. Finally, let me say that the customer service has been great. I've emailed Sam three sets of questions about the app and he's gotten back to me fast, within minutes. Buy this app!.Version: 1.21

Great app for tea loversThis is a great app for people who drink tea daily, or even weekly to check their stock, brew their tea, and record their brewing history. The only thing I would add to it is push support for when you're out of the app and your tea is done, it could just pop up and say "[type of tea] is ready!" This would be amazing if it's added in a future update, and also if you could add a sugar/honey (or other sweetener) option? This would be awesome too because a lot of people drink their tea sweetened and they could record their best recipe in the app and even share it with friends via Facebook or Twitter. I still highly recommend this app if you like drinking tea and want to keep track of things, and if you wish to time your tea brewing with an iPhone..Version: 1.02

Absolutely InvaluableIf your as much of a tea snob as I am, you're going to love this app. Well thought our design coupled with a smart aesthetic make it a joy to use and something I'd wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who takes their tea seriously..Version: 1.02

For the tea newbie to professionalDownloaded the app and used it to brew my first cup of tea this morning. The app is very easy and straightforward to use. I love that it keeps track of my inventory of tea as well as all of my tasting notes. For those who might balk at the $4.99 price tag: Don't! This app is easily worth $9.99 once you look at all the features and what it has to offer..Version: 1.02

Wonderful Tea App!!!This is a wonderful Tea App! I used to keep my notes in a book before and this is way easier now! I can't believe how easy this is now. I suggest this to any Tea aficionado. I have two suggestions for this app. 1. Create a calculator to convert units of measures. This is really helpful when I brew tea for a large group. 2. Add a feature to let us tag/add a photo to the tea so I can add a photo of the brew or the tea leaves..Version: 1.1

GreatI can tell a lot of work went into the design of this app. The encyclopedia is a great way to discover new teas to try. That alone would be worth the price..Version: 2.02

Just my cuppa tea! :)Have been waiting years for a tea app this good in the app store. Beautifully designed and well thought out the Tea app combines simplicity with multiple layers of functionality to make it a pleasure to use. I work in the specialty tea business and totally rate this, even more importantly I actually use it! Well done to the developers I look forward to future updates, I see they are very active online and really listening to feedback..Version: 1.1

Helpful and informativeA lot of details about different teas and how to brew them. List not exhaustive. Looked up Orange Peko and could not find it. Work in progress? Would be nice to have a history and general over view about tea such as basic differences between white, black, green etc..Version: 2.02

Beautiful, usefulI am loving this app. It makes it simple to keep track of my tea, so I know what I have when I go to the tea shop. I am enjoying taking pictures of my brews, and taking notes, so I know what to do differently next time I brew a up. The encyclopedia is extensive and deep, and I am learning so much about different varieties of tea. The only quibble I have is that the timer itself is not as beautiful as the rest of the app. It would be nice to have the option of an hourglass or a pocket watch type of timer. Other than that, I am thrilled. This is a wonderful tool for any tea aficionado..Version: 2.02

Best to tea app available!I've tried a few other tea timer apps out there and they don't even compare to this. The only faults that I have found are: -when sound is off the timer doesn't vibrate when finished - there is no way to skip the timer when backlogging tea All the positives out way those negatives by far. Still deserves 5 stars. I am so happy that I found this app to help me make the perfect cup of tea..Version: 1.02

Love it!It allows me to read up on the different types of teas at the Asian grocery store. I have found so many teas I like because of this app. I am so happy it has been updated. It works great now. THANK YOU!!!.Version: 2.03

Fantastic, best tea app available with a beautiful design.Fantastic, best tea app available with a beautiful design..Version: 2.01

A great app for tea loversIf you like tea then this is a must have, extremely cool and really nicely designed. Good job..Version: 2.02

Inventory AND History!I was looking for a tea app that could keep track of all my looseleaf teas and the amounts I have of them. This app tracks how much I have, changes my inventory with each brew and allows me to keep notes and photos, too! I love it!.Version: 2.02

OkayETA: you CAN delete things! I discovered this accidental while trying to wipe off my screen. To delete an entry, slide your finger sideways across the entry you wish to delete. A delete button will appear. I think being able to delete things changes my review from three stars to four. I like this app but it could use a few improvements. The biggest problem with this app seems to be that you can't delete teas and brews. You can't remove the pre-loaded sample listing from your teas. You can edit the sample listing to be one of your own teas, but the sample brew and rating can't be removed. If you add a tea and then toss it out or give it away or something, you can only reduce the amount in the app, you can't remove it. Other reviewers have complained that there aren't enough tea categories, but that's not a big deal to me. Most teas will fit under black, green, white, red, etc...having separate categories for flavored or powdered isn't that critical. You can just put matcha under Japanese green and then adjust the time, temperature and amount however you want. Another minor complaint is that the screen will not rotate to landscape view. The keyboard is a bit larger in landscape than in portrait so it would be easier to type in tea info..Version: 1.23

Best Overall Tea app! This app does have issues, but I am more than happy to deal with them given what is offered with it: 🍵 Encyclopedia- very detailed with maps, season charts, photos, and guidelines 🍵 Tea timer- highly programmable with your chosen specifics; amount of tea, volume of water, steep time, temperature (C or F), and you can track your steeping pot or vessel to the point of a photographic representation of it. 🍵 Pantry function- for tracking your teas- very cool! 🍵 History tab- for all your past tea experiences Track your tea type, time, temperature, amount, water, pot, and everything is searchable! I’m also impressed with the clear understanding of Chinese teas and style of tea making that is still lacking with the other apps in the the store. It can be a little temperamental to use, but I have found those problems vanish now that I have been using it for a while (ex: I don’t use the camera icon in the app to try and take a photo because it will crash the app. I use my iPhone’s camera, then use the “Photo Library” selection to fetch the photo. Not a big deal). This is a great app for learning and growing one’s knowledge with tea making! If you are a casual tea drinker, you may not care, but for those exploring the realm of tea, this app is great!.Version: 2.04

Pretty terrific little app with lots of possibilities aheadI've been through more tea apps than one can shake a stick (or tea pick) at. This one's the best of the lot...which is why so many users expect even more from it. Mine has 20+ teas entered, with fairly detailed notes. The ability to add my specific teapots is a big bonus--no need to memorize how many cc's each holds. A tip I missed: After selecting one of you user-entered pots, adjust the dry tea amount accordingly in the Brew screen, then tap the lock icon in the middle of the needle graphic. Doing so allows the app to adjust the amount of tea up/down according to which teapot you select for each session. Genius idea (that was so subtle I completely missed it). Wish list: A way to sync the app with other devices -and- online. Would be soooo much easier to add a list of new teas if we could do so using a full sized keyboard via a browser-based site. To then sync that info to other devices would be even better...no need to henpeck through teeny tiny "keys" on the phone then repeat the process on the iPad. To Sam and company--thank you, thank you, thank you for all the blood, sweat, tears, and tea that went into this. Definitely the best of what's out there..Version: 2.02

By far the best Tea appThe tone of this review may seem largely negative, but I just wanted to point out some things that could be improved in the new version. Honestly, this is THE BEST TEA RELATED APP YOU CAN GET. Full featured, affordable, easy to navigate user interface- it does everything you need. Almost. So, here come the things I'd like to see improved in the next version. - I'd like to be able to sort the main list of added teas by categories besides the date I added them. Like Most brewed, highest rated, Color (White -> Black) - If I get longwinded with my tasting notes, the keyboard covers what I'm typing and I haven't found a way to scroll the text while typing. - I'd like to see categories for flavored teas (Flavored Black, Flavored Green), specialized teas (Matcha) and non-herbal Tisanes (Barley Tea) With these things added/fixed, it will really be perfect..Version: 2.02
