SkyView® for Negative User Reviews

Where are the instructions?I love the concept, but how do I find what I’m looking for after I entered it into the search? Usage tips and FAQs answers only 4 preset questions and there’s no way to search. How am I supposed to find out how to use it? Frustrated!.Version: 3.6.1

Love the App but I need a widget! Please please please make a 2 by 2 widget that I can add to my Smart Stack, I’d love to get update on what neat things I could i see in the sky that night without having to constantly check the app. Thank you!.Version: 3.7.0

Review of Sky lightIt's a handy tool however their are a few minor faults within its programming that could be rectified quite easily. That, of course is for another write up, the pushing of upgrades is very annoying as nobody needs reminding yet have the dog standard version as their are plenty of items that can't be used due to having only the basic free model. Many thanks and kind regards to all. Nickwi79.Version: 3.5.1

Used to be an incredible app, now it doesn’t workI used this for the first time in NZ and learned about so many constellations I’d never seen before. Now there are no planets and it won’t automatically calibrate, rendering the app completely unusable. It’s a real shame - it used to be one of my favourite apps..Version: 3.6.2

No Star NamesThis app would be fantastic if there was a way to turn on major star and constellation names without having to place the cursor over each one as pretty much every astronomy app does..Version: 3.7.0

How do you use this???I used skyview lite and i LOVED it! It took my phone camera and compass and showed me directly what was where i was pointing my phone. So, i bought the full version. There was no tutorial, no prompts explaining anything. Even in FAQ and settings within the app i couldnt find any help. Spend 10 mins like a dummy doing a figure 8 motion with my phone in all the concievable ways i could interpret the directions. No change or prompt. Resetting the tutorial (i never even received a tutorial) did nothing. It is locked on to one singular point and i cannot navigate or move away from this point. I would have preferred to assume user error and email the developers privately for help but there is no option to do this. I do not have an old phone, everything is up to date, and the lite version worked perfectly. I wish i would not have spent the money on this because it is functionally useless to me. No recalibration or settings change or anything to help me figure out what is wrong. At this point i have to assume the app is faulty and i wish i could have my money back..Version: 3.7.0

Can’t turn off music, and augmented reality doesn’t fully loadJust upgraded to Premium at £1.99 along with Satellite stuff for £0.99 and am no longer able to turn off the music. Also the background (what the camera shows behind the star field) only partially loads, so that the top quarter of the background is black. App also fails to connect to Twitter, where i would’ve uploaded this complaint. ipad mini 3 running on latest ios 12..Version: 3.5.1

Augmented realityIt seems that it is mandatory to see the app with augmented reality on. I try to shut it off go back to the app and it automatically turns itself back on. That’s annoying, I love the app and want to give it a five star rating but the settings won’t let me because it’s not just the augmented reality. there’s a couple of other settings that no matter how many times you shut them off they go back to being on. I paid for the app I downloaded the app you give us the options to have it on or off and yet we don’t get to utilize those options it seems forced upon us. And also can you bring the gyroscope back to align the app the way you have it now doesn’t always work easily. If it’s not broken then don’t fix it. I really do love the app I think it’s amazing but if you could do those two things; I would appreciate it. Then somebody else mentioned about searching the surroundings without moving the phone that’s a fabulous idea.Version: 3.5.1

Sadly lacking basic search functionEasy to point and identify a star or object. Can’t accept address to search for a known address for a star or point in space. Google maps will eat this ap when they include off planet locations..Version: 3.5.1

Desperately needs to be updated..While I used to love this app, and have an avid sky watcher to be, it hasn’t been updated in at least a year. There had been problems getting it to calibrate. I always had to do it manually, which is fine, but difficult when you don’t know which way you are facing and don’t have any obvious points to calibrate to. Now, it is just plain stuck. It doesn’t move at all, and all I can see is Draco at due north on the horizon, no matter where I am pointing. I have written the app help people and not heard back. It is disappointing. My daughter used to love this app, which was why I paid for the upgrade, but, unless they update it soon, I would not recommend this app for anyone. It will only frustrate you..Version: 3.5.1

No names visibleOK, I may be missing something here, but the app gives nice pictures of the moon, planets etc. But doesn’t name them. Obviously I can identify the moon and tonight Jupiter (I assume) is close by. Every other similar app identifies what you are looking at. Search as I might in settings, this one doesn’t. Disappointed..Version: 3.6

Not workingView is not moving with moving the phone…please fix.Version: 3.7.0

Really?I paid 4 dollars for this app to just be frozen on a constellation like cmon.Version: 3.6.1

UPDATE AND/OR FIX THIS BROKEN APPI initially was okay with spending a couple bucks on this app because i was excited to be able to scan around and see the stars real time wherever I was. It seemed to work just fine for a while, functioning just like it said but now the app doesn't scan anything- it just stays frozen in one place, not viewing any skies. I've tried adjusting, readjusting, waiting for updates and it's been "broken" for what seems like several months now. At this point this app is a scam for a couple bucks as it doesn't function for any star gazing at all anymore. I really hope the developers can see and fix this issue because i'd love to be able to use this app again!.Version: 3.6.1

View Screen always frozenThis app always frozen and I can not reset it or calibrate…..Version: 3.6.1

Good app but no support and watch not supportedGood app for viewing night sky. Shame all development seems to have stopped and apple watch support claimed in version 3.3 doesn’t exist on current store version..Version: 3.7.0

Awful!Absolutely awful! I've downloaded the free version and the paid version and each time I open the app on my phone I am only resented with one standalone image of a random set of stars pre-selected by the app itself. I move my camera around and around to find other stars and planets however nothing changes on the screen. This has not proved user friendly at all. I still cannot get it to work.Version: 3.5.1

Southern HemisphereDoesn’t seem to work as well in the Southern Hemisphere. You can see a lot more of everything when you point it to the ground..Version: 3.6.1

No longer calibratesI’ve used the paid version of Skyview for several years and have absolutely loved it. I’ve enjoyed many nights of wonderful sky watching using this app. However, suddenly the calibration no longer works. When I open the app it defaults to the horizon line at exactly north. It’s stuck there and I can do nothing g to resolve this. Auto/Manual calibration does not work. The figure 8 calibration does nothing. Yes, I have an older iPhone 6s Plus. But it has always worked just fine until now. Is this app no longer supported for the iPhone 6s Plus? If so, I had heard nothing indicating that that was the case. Please help!.Version: 3.7.0

Stopped workingWhen I open the app it is frozen on a view of Star in Auriga and a symbol showing north. There are satellites and other objects spinning which I can press on for information, but the screen doesn’t move as I move my phone across the sky. Please help..Version: 3.5.1

Used to be greatI used to love this app, but recently it seems to be more “out” with its calibration, and a week ago it started to “roll” out of control through the sky, even though I’m holding my device completely still. It’s like watching the stars and horizon line on the app just tumble faster and faster in a downward motion. I can’t find anything in the help section to suggest how to fix this, I’ve tried the figure 8, I’ve tried resetting the location, I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app, but I have no idea what’s going on. All other apps on my phone which use location services (including google maps) are working fine....Version: 3.6.1

GlitchedMy SkyView is glitched every time I open the app it always shows the draco constellation and I try to restart the app but it keeps popping up it used to work perfectly but something is wrong now Not good☹️.Version: 3.6.1

Doesn’t workLoved the app but it stopped working. it doesn’t move with my phone. please fix :(.Version: 3.7.0

Not workingUsed this years ago and was great. Now not working period.Version: 3.6.1

Best AppMost beautiful app..Version: 3.5.1

FrozenI had the lite version but it was froze in one position so I bought the paid version along with the satellite app. The screen still remains frozen I did send a message to the developer but no reply. I’m hoping they will see this and help me get this working..Version: 3.6.1

What happened to the COMPASS???I’m very disappointed lately. I paid for this app but I’ve had lots of problems with it knowing where anything is. It doesn’t keep the correct direction, now, even after I just set it manually (which was still not quite right) There was a compass that I could turn on, and then adjust the direction, but the compass is gone this week. I love trying to find out what the various bright lights are in the sky, but I am getting extremely disappointed with the fact that this app is getting worse every week! The app does not give an option for customer service to ask questions or report it not working correctly. So that is why I am posting this review..Version: 3.7.0

But disappointedHave used this app many times over the last few years and have been very pleased with it. But I loaded it on my iPhone 7 and now the planets are not in the right places. It’s not very useful if everything is off. Perhaps there’s away I can recalibrate it. Disappointed. 😕.Version: 3.5.1

Anybody paying attention? You’d think with historic events like the Dragon Demo2 launch that the developers would keep users entertained and updated by featuring these main events. Any plan to include Starlink? Seems like just app development for the sake of it rather than genuine forefront capability 🤷‍♂️.Version: 3.6.1

Free version is betterI had the free version , which was great , the only problem was that the augmented reality option did not work , i wanted the black screen option ,so I thought the full version should have it , but no , can’t see any difference between the two.Version: 3.5.1

Chinese Space StationCan’t find Tiangong Space Station. If I could you would get 5 stars. Can find plenty of space junk so why not Chinese Space Station..Version: 3.6.2

Slight problemI loved this app and used it all the time, but recently it has stopped working. I cannot enter the app as every time I go to open it, it crashes. It’s a bit disappointing and I would love to continue to use it but it won’t work :(.Version: 3.6.1

Thought it a 5, but no, it is notI’ve had SkyView for several years and thought it was great; would have rated it a five. But after all the news coverage of Comet Neowise I thought I’d try using the app to find it. Nope; search returns nothing. Brightest Northern Hemisphere comet since Hale-Bopp but the app doesn’t know of it? That was a letdown. I was also frustrated to learn that the developer site - terminaleleven(dot)com - has no help functionality or really anything but a sales pitch. Clearly, once you get the app they’re done with you. I give it 2 stars because it is really pretty good as long as nothing new comes along in the night sky, and as long as the user has no questions..Version: 3.6.1

Good app but not well calibratedIt's a beautiful app with a lot of details. But I am rating 3 because it is not calibrated correctly. It does not aim the moon where it really is for instance. Even after I manually calibrate it, it goes back to a random settings. Also it is hard to see the stars or planets behind the drawings of a constellation. Too bad because this app has a great potential..Version: 3.5.1

Both hemisphereWorks in Australia but in Morocco even after changing location even the moon we can see doesn’t show.Version: 3.7.0

Used to work…Was a great app… now it seems locked on one point & is broken. No settings seem to enable it to pan around anymore & view stars… ergo no it is useless & not fit for purpose..Version: 3.6.2

Wish I'd stuck with free version.I had the free version for quite a while and was quite happy with it, then was coerced into upgrading by the app itself. Since then I've not been happy with the full version, I think I'll delete and start again. As far as I am concerned there's no use paying for something you may not need..Version: 3.5.1

Compass Needs FixingI have had this app for a long time and enjoy it but I am completely frustrated that the compass is not working properly. This has been an issue for years and despite the updates for the various iOS platforms the developers have still to correct this very basic glitch which is key to the whole app’s purpose. It seems they are content to take people’s money for this app (which people will buy because of the 5* ratings for an app that is not working properly) and then do nothing to correct a fault. Poor service..Version: 3.5.1

Don’t get this app choose anotherIt’s useless! The calibration is well off. I’ve set my phone compass to true north. Each time I open the app the obvious points of reference ie, sun or moon are well off which means everything in the sky is as well, and different every time I open the app. All the app advises is you swing your phone in a figure of 8 to aid the calibration but that doesn’t work, all it achieves is making me look like an idiot swinging my phone around almost aimlessly. I’ve even tried manually calibrating it but again each time I open the app the reference points are completely off! A shame but it doesn’t work. I’m now in the process of requesting my money back as I paid for the full version of the app..Version: 3.6

Amazing app apart from one bug. This app is perfect for an amateur astronomer such as myself! While not so useful for identifying things already seen in the sky, it is amazing for locating specific objects. The ability to search by categories such as planets and satellites means you can easily find out what there is to see in the sky that you want to look at. Also the feature of pushing the time forward is great for planning what to look at when night time comes. Unfortunately, on the paid version of this app the compass orientation is completely broken, and never correctly points to north. This can be set manually, which must be done every time the app opens, and is obviously less accurate than the app doing it automatically. I often find myself using stars or planets to try and orient the app correctly. If this bug were to fixed, I couldn't fault the app and it would deserve five stars for sure..Version: 3.5.1

The Universe is openingI purchased this app as my interest towards to the skies and I really liked it but since the last update I do not often use it because for example if I search for the Moon I do not get the rise time as long as I do not point at it. Sometimes I just wish not to update anything....Version: 3.6

Was good now awfulThis was a great app, but recently the thing is well out on its planet location. I’m currently sat looking at the moon, I bring up the phone to line up the moon to see what else is about and the moon isn’t there. Use the search and the moon is apparently directly behind me. What is all that about. I have tried to recalibrate and still have the same issue. Considering I paid for this app it needs sorting please..Version: 3.6.1

Has potential to be brilliant but...... please tell me how I can fix the compass points on this app? The developer has given an option of a manual override, but it still gives me massive false compass point readings and insists that MY override settings are wrong! I'm using the compass app and an old fashioned compass which give me true readings and I've turned off wifi to see if this helps - no joy. This bug renders this app as totally useless, or am I missing something blindingly obvious in the settings?.Version: 3.5.1

CalibrationWill not calibrate in auto mode. Always in reverse; north is south and south is north. On ipad mini 6, did seem to have this bug..Version: 3.6.2

Not so good in the southern hemisphereI have no idea about the Northern hemisphere, but to call the Southern Cross "crux, one of 88 modern constellations", leaving out so much, seems less than informative. No Big Kangaroo, no Emu, both of which are popularised and real aboriginal constellations, also seems a bit northern-hemisphere-centric, if not blatantly racist. Someone might want to do some southern hemisphere night sky research. The space debris stuff is good though, nice to get an idea of what is man-made up there..Version: 3.5.1

Was great, but not updated in a long timeAs per title, I’m disappointed this app hasn’t been updated with recent satellites etc. It still looks pretty, but I think other newer apps are doing a better job now..Version: 3.6.1

Doesn’t workAt the moment nothing happens. Not the buttons not the screen, nothing. I will keep playing with it and if it some how fixes itself I will redo my rating..Version: 3.6.1

Not convinced it worksIt picks up the stars and moon and planets pretty much spot on but not sure the satellite locations are right. Since getting the app Iv not spotted a satellite by eye until just. I went outside and straight away I saw what I guess was an iridium flare or whatever they call them. Got the app out and there was nothing in the sky on there. A minute later looked up and saw a satellite so got the app out again and once again nothing on there. So Iv come to the conclusion that it either doesn't work or Iv just seen 2 ufos. Will keep testing it though..Version: 3.5.1

Polaris AustralisThis app for some reason does not show the location of the current south star - Sigma Octantis. This would be very useful....Version: 3.6.1

Use this butOkay. Nice. But when you upgrade you have a thousands of stars on your screen. How do you narrow these down? The lite version was better if not. Also the shapes and star sign artwork is so annoying as it gets in the way. Is there a way to toggle these off?.Version: 3.6.1

DOAStill not working and no one returns my attempts to contact the app developers. Hold on to your money..Version: 3.6.1

Useless and completely inaccurateAs star viewing apps go, this one seems to be the best, but it’s still really bad. It’s completely inaccurate, it’s navigational system is about as accurate as Christopher Columbus. What it said was “North” was actually south east, and it said the moon was on the completely other side of the horizon then where it actually was. I tried recalibrating my phone to solve this issue, but the recalibration setting doesn’t do anything. And you have to make all these in-app purchases to make this app even worth it..Version: 3.7.0

SkyView Lite more accurate than SkyViewI have both of the above apps installed on my iPhone. This evening I could clearly see Orion’s belt where SkyView Lite said it should be but SkyView said Orion was below the horizon. I could clearly see the Southern Cross (Cruz) but SkyView showed it rotated relative to the real thing and in a different location. Both apps have access to location. So, I am using the free app because the one I paid for is just wrong!.Version: 3.6

App no longer worksThe app is frozen. It no longer scans the skies as you move. The view never changes. It appears to be broken Update put out August 28, 2022 has NOT resolved the freeze issue. Still not working on Pro version and Lite version.Version: 3.7.0

Don’t waste your money.I got this app because I saw heaps of good reviews, but I pointed it at the ground and it said there were stars on the ground. I thought something was wrong so I pointed it at the wall with lights on in the room and it said there was stars on the wall. Don’t waste your time and money on this app..Version: 3.6.1

Used to work great……but checking it out now (years later) it doesn’t work at all, period..Version: 3.6.2

Calibration out of kilterPrevious version was almost spot on. This time when I try to manually calibrate it the moon is higher on the app than in the sky. Even auto calibrate doesn't get it anywhere near right. Other than that the new features are pretty sweet!.Version: 2.0.0

Cool and informative, but could use a few thingsI initially tried the SkyView Lite with my son after buying him a telescope a few weeks back. My initial thoughts of the app were great (still is) as you can point up, down, side-to-side and behind you and find what’s out there. This gets me dizzy and somewhat lost when trying relocate the object through the telescope. A few nights back, we went to a viewing event and found another similar app (stellarium) which did not have (could be user settings) all of the constellation artwork pop ups and things getting in the way to try and find certain nebula and various other objects. His app simplified with a real-time view (potentially used a light pollution map) of what’s visible by the eye, to help find objects. He also did not have to point the app up, he held it at ground level and was able to match the stars visible currently to the eye, vs holding up the phone and getting lost within all the stars in the sky with your app. Long story short I found some settings in this app to remove the pop up constellation artwork and reduce some of the stars, planets and satellites, however I’m not able to eliminate the point up to see option. Is there a setting for that in this app? I would like to hold the phone flat like I’m texting and see a real time view of what’s viewable with my eye, vs getting dizzy with the moving and spinning of the app..Version: 3.6.1

IPad Pro 12.9 Not Good. The app is fantastic, but I don't think it was made for IPads, not sure about iPhones because I don't have an iPhone. But, I have the same app on my Nexus 6P, the milky way in the background is just very condensed and clear, very high refresh frames rate it is like hot knife on butter smooth. The black background is pure deep black, it's just beautiful. The augmented side on the Nexus 6P which to me is an old device is high quality. But on the IPad it's all pixelated, the frame rate when you move the device around is very low and you can actually see how washed out the whole background is, black is not back. Can someone have a look please how it compares and hopefully we see version for the iPad thanks..Version: 3.5.1
