✓ Great app, I use it all the time.This is a fun app and produces some good film. I'd say only that it often tends to jump a bit and stall the video - not sure if this is a memory issue or not. It still happens after closing all multitasking apps and restarting my phone. The other thing that takes a star off for me is the library. It would be great to be able to manage my clips properly. As I get more and more clips in it's just too difficult to find anything and doing bulk deletes is definitely needed. Otherwise great app!.Version: 1.1

✓ Brilliant, some suggestionsThis looks really authentic. I think film selector can be put in a menu somewhere as you wouldn't be changing that during filming. Then use the space to allow lenses to be selected individually without clicking through each one. Amount of light leak adjustment would be good. Perhaps adjust amount of dust also. ✓ QuestionHey guys. I absolutely love this app & have used it frequently over the time that I've had it. However, I do have a suggestion as to how it could be improved: I love how you can use music with the videos, however I would like to be able to choose the starting point for the song. I find myself using other apps for this reason & it gets annoying! I love the simplicity of this app but I find apps like Filmora more appealing now as it's free and offers a LOT more editing options. To be able to crop the video, rotate it & add different elements to my clips for free makes it seem silly to keep a paid for app that offers half of that. ✓ Great app, would like pause/ record featureI would love to see a pause record feature so i can cut sequences within the same clip, just like how a roll of film used to work, avoiding having to edit clips together later. also record and cut pre and end roll effect would be cool as the film header and first over exposed frame passes the gate and as the last frame leaves the film gate, rolling onto the tail, added to the film from the process and printing stage, scratches and all. Just two features would make this the perfect Super 8 app: - 4:3 aspect ratio option for authenticity, this could just be black boxes either side of the frame. I can do it in post, but would be helpful for composition if it was in-app. - 18 fps mode for that true 8mm look, the motion is currently too fluid looking thanks to the iPhone frame rate. ✓ Works like a dream!I just bought this - it's a dream to use! And it produces lovely looking films. I have a couple of *minor* suggestions: Why on earth isn't 'Mix projector sound effect with mic recording' switched on by default? I initially thought sound recording must be broken in that mode. (It may be more authentic your way? But I'd still start with it on!) Second one: It is not obvious enough in the UI when recording is on and when it is off (since all the film effects are happening all the time anyway). I would definitely think an (optional) positive click sound on the record on/off button would help; also the 'depressed' graphic for that button isn't *quite* there, for me; maybe don't make it marginally smaller, as now (it hasn't gone that far away! ;) ), but use shadows more (as in the up version of the button), to make it slightly more recessed?? Also to flag up recording mode: maybe make the background to the film timer a pale red colour rather than the current pale grey/black? And/or make that red and the button red pulse gently. But those are both suggestions to slightly improve an already lovely app!.Version: 1.5

✓ Its a film emulator and not just a retro gimmick!I am an artist and filmmaker who has worked alot using 8mm film and I love this app. I have used it to make a number of films, which have been shown internationally. I don't use it as a gimmick, or for a retro look, but I like the quality of the images, and the range of colours and film stocks that they you developed. It gives a feel of film and does it sensitively. One film I made - people thought it was shot on 16mm. However **please please please** when upgrading next time, have an option to remove 'dust and scratches' from all the film stocks and shooting options. Only one option in black and white had no dust and scratches. Its the only frustrating element. If you ever upgrade please do that! It's worth considering this app as a serious tool and not a gimmick or just retro look. Making an app that genuinely mimics film textures would be a wonderful thing and there is nothing out there that does that right now. Kodak had one for a while but not for iphone. This is a film emulator, looking at a extension and more advanced version would be amazing. Maybe rethink the retro interface too. Design it as a film emulator, with some customisable features. I look forward to an upgrade, I do hope there is one. I would gladly discuss new features with the developers! Dust and scratches removal would be a simple start. Thanks..Version: 3.1

✓ Value for moneyIn an age where a “decent” app requires a monthly subscription including a quart of your blood, an app like this is amazing. Firstly, the effects of phenomenal, especially if you’re into making arty / edgy style movies for creative reasons (my favourite filter is the 1920s). Secondly, it is long supported by the developers though they’re not sucking dry the people who originally bought the app as a once-off purchase. The only way we’ll get apps like this again to be common place is if we only subscribe to services that deliver significant content regularly (like streaming services) and turn out backs on apps that initially started off as a once off buy but then changed it into a subscription model basically forcing you into B s subscriptions. It’s a “Greed is Good” mentality and it only works if we let it. Rather, for innovation’s sake, support apps like this, then look into their latest pay once apps and support them that way. This is so slick and impressive I think it's probably the most shocked by an app I've been. This looks a million times more impressive on the phone than it does in the screenshots above. The way the filters fade and animate is unbelievably slick!! I love the flicker button, and the fact that you can change all the setting and lenses whilst recording with no slow down or jutter is fantastic (on iphone 4 anyway). Just tried it in my office and it even made that look cool ;) Really blow anyway by this app, and love the fact that even filters on retro photo apps can take a long time to process, the videos are processed INSTANTLY, no waitign at all, which is massively impressive. ✓ Near excellenceAs someone who previously had to ship Super 8 film cartridges from Australia to California for processing - I am deeply grateful for this wonderful app. A slight improvement would be to mimic the ingrained focus on the three primary colours of genuine Super 8 film stock: red, yellow and blue. When an old Super 8 camera focused on a red roof, for instance - the shock of the primary colour would momentarily blur the focus. Super 8 stock basically had these three primary colours with other colours slightly gauzed or faded. The colours and focus here on the app is very similar to 1970’s still photography - perhaps more so than Super 8 footage. But so close! And we are genuinely grateful..Version: 4.0

✓ Brilliant, but could be better.8mm vintage camera is one of the best special effect apps I have seen to date and is only lacking the older style early 1900s silent film camera option where all you can hear is the reel sound and people have that funny gait to their movement due to the slower and more irregular frame speeds. It would be a marvel of an app if it allowed you to replicate those old, silent classics with the darker frames. As a tip to the developer, I would also add the option for film scratches and lines that tend to be prolific in the older days..Version: 1.1

It's a video app folks, there are dozens of camera effect apps out there ("Lo-Mob" & "Hipstamatic" being my personal favourites!). Don't down-rate an app for doing what it says on the tin, and doing it excellently! One suggestion would be the ability to add your own soundtrack using tracks on your iPhone. "Silent Film Director", a newly featured app, has this ability and almost made me download as a result but for the negative comments about the quality of the effects. ✓ Never use HD again!I'm going back to the sixties! Never use HD again (well maybe for some things) but this is the most fun app I've ever downloaded! ✓ Still great!UPDATE: I shot some family footage while out a couple days ago with the original app and my fave simulation (Tuscan). Man, it beautifully captured the light, colour, and feel of the day. Absolutely my go-to for gorgeous 8mm effects. The new app (I am one of the few who have both the 8mm II and the original app) is fantastic. Being able to adjust sharpness, etc. is perfect, and the “save original” option is a nice failsafe. Get the subscription. Worth supporting the developer, and it’s inexpensive. Old review, from before the new app: I’d like to point out that there are Easter eggs, which aren’t necessarily obvious. First, tap on the screen to adjust exposure. And most importantly, and something competitors don’t always offer, exposure values gradually adjust, rather than doing abrupt changes. Let’s get some updates, though! I know the aesthetic is for vintage looks, but, I mean, 4K is available. Let’s get optical image stabilization, more frame rates, and sharpness adjustments!.Version: 4.2

It is great as all have been mentioning, but seeing as the phone can record in HD resolution, it seems a bit of a waste that 8mm can't do the same.
