✓ Finally updated--much better!The end of August brought a surprising and welcome update: Dow Jones has finally updated the Barron's app to support both the retina display of the latest iPad, and the multitasking features of iOS 5! I had truly given up hope and thought the publishers had abandoned the app. The app now works very well for offline reading of Barron's content (subscription required). It appears that they also fixed an annoying tendency for the app to navigate to the table of contents instead of the next page. I am very happy! I am rating the app as 4 stars out of 5, because it's good, but not perfect. I notice that the graphics aren't quite "retina" quality (bitmapped text is still fuzzy, etc.), and I think there is room for improvement re: the article navigation bar on the right. It would be better if this could be hidden to allow the article to use the entire screen area. Overall I can now recommend the app to any Barron's subscriber with an iPad..Version: 1.2
✓ Locks out an iOS featureThis version of Barrons prevents the user from selecting a single word to get a dictionary definition. You are permitted only to select one paragraph. Select All is also not allowed. Maybe to better protect Dow Jones' intellectual property the app could be redesigned to present all text as a graphic, with screenshot disabled, and the screen darkened if a nearby smartphone lens is detected..Version: 5.0.3

✓ Needs much improvementThis app needs to improve a lot to make it as accessible as the print version. I would advise that they change the layout so that you start at the cover and can flip through the app in the same way that you flip through the paper. It seems very disjointed having it organized by columns and features etc. The app should remember your spot when you leave the app and then come back. This is very frustrating, especially if you are in the middle of a longer article. As well, often when I have been in the middle of an article and swipe to continue, it brings me to one of the content pages as opposed to the rest of the article. This is very frustrating. Also, if you are like me and read Barron's for much of the statistical information, this is incomplete. Much of the Market Data is missing which is frustrating as there are certain things I can't find elsewhere. I think the developers need to rethink how they present the information through this app. I am not sure to model it after the WSJ makes sense, as they are very different papers..Version: 1.0

✓ Good app in general, but audio bug needs to be fixedIn general, I enjoy using this app to read and listen through the financial analyses, which are good content. However, it seems that the audio cuts all the paragraphs where there is bold fonts in the text. This bug is really annoying. I hope this issue can be fixed soon..Version: 5.11.16

✓ Solid app, but could use improvementsI gave this app 4 stars because app is solid, but I found it wanting in the following two ways: 1. Search Feature: Their search feature might be where the app is most deficient. It’s hard to search for articles on the app. If there’s a way to search for articles, I can’t figure out. I can only search for stock symbols, which give the 5 most recent articles that mention the stock. A lot of times that’s not enough. It would be great if we could search articles by terms, authors, date, etc. 2. “Open in App”: When I open a Barron’s article I found in Google, my Safari web browser gives me the option to open the article in the app. But doing so just opens the app to wherever I left off the last time I was on the app. With no way to search for articles in the app, this can be frustrating. The only way to read these articles seems to be by signing in to my Barron’s account on my web browser, which I don’t want to do. Other than that, the app is pretty solid. Nice user interface, nice font, good articles..Version: 5.3.4

✓ Love Barrons but there needs to be more Kindle-like functionality.I used to use the newsstand reader on my PC which was the actual virtual version of the paper edition. You could highlight and write on the surface and ave the entire edition. YOU CANNOT DO IT WITH THIS APP The good thing is it is still the Barron's magazine possibly the best financial news paper for the lay person.
