Main reasons why this is one star: Even if you get the gold package you still pay extra to read the magazines you want You have to reload the app almost every day because there are constant issues retrieving from the server I can’t get rid of all the magazines that are in another language (which is a LOT). It says with a gold package you access 2000 mags but this is really a bloated number. I recommend to everyone to really look at what you are getting before you purchase a gold account..Version: 8.16
✓ Subscription IssueI am unable to contact customer support as there is not a phone number or preferably, an email address to contact them. Today, I was offered a 7 day free trial to Magzter Gold and I took them up on it, signed up, etc. Then I went to download the app to another device and as soon as I opened the app it offered me a 30 day free trial - huge difference there. I would love to have the additional time to review the app, as I am already a subscriber to Texture...want to see which offers more, which I like better. But no way to contact them about this. I have screenshots of both offers as well as proof of the offers, but if someone would get back with me, would be fabulous! ✓ MISLEADING - I Want my Money BackMagster claims their Magster Gold subscription will provide access to 5000 magazines, and because it includes thumbnails of of all popular magazines I thought I would have access to these. Instead, only obscure magazines are included. As for the popular ones, Magster just gives access to a 5 page “preview” teaser after which you have to purchase a separate subscription to each magazine to see more. Even worse, Magster is now sending me annoying notifications hyping stories in these non-included magazines. Since I am not interested in the magazines included in Magster Gold and I do not want to spend more money on additional subscriptions I could have just bought directly from the magazines themselves, pretty much all my $49 bought me is more Magster ads. ✓ My Magzter Gold SubscriptionLast July I was enticed to subscribe to Magzter Gold. It seemed well worth the money and in fact I received a lot of enjoyment from the various topics from around the world. Within the last two weeks my subscription has been reduced from Magzter Gold to simply Magzter. ✓ Can’t Cancel Subcription!!I did the free 7 day trial and now I am trying to cancel it but it would not allow me! I saw online that I can cancel it through Apple iTunes, but Magzter doesn’t even show up as one of my subscriptions! Also, the “Manage Subscription” on the Magzter website does not even work! It kept loading for 30 minutes and nothing popped up! To the developers of Magzter, please fix this immediately! I just saw many reviews about this and it seems like you guys have not taken steps in improving this! ✓ Crap, pure crap.If you live in Southeast Asia, this is the app for you. If you speak anything other than English, sign-up immediately! If you want to subscribe separately to each magazine and pay additional subscription charges even for magazines that were free last month, this app is awesome. If you want to make a magazine your favourite on this app only to be told the next month it’s not available in your country...then what are you waiting for?! If you like men’s magazines that only Jeffrey Dalmer would read, Magzter’s gotttem! ✓ Why are the prices hiding?They are NOT transparent in pricing. First, when you download the app there is only one option, a 30 day free trial where some mags are available but others not and are sold at $4.99 some, I didn’t check all. Are you kidding? I thought the subscription was unlimited like my other app that I can see all a available for the same price per month. Comparing apples to apples, my other app is a bargain and this one is a rip-off. Now I have been looking for 30 mins inside the app for other pricing options and where to cancel. ✓ ScamAdvertises that they can give you 5,000 + magazines to read. The majority of them are useless. Most all credible magazines they list require you to buy a regular subscription to read. Also you can’t tell until you open it up and start reading. It’s pretty annoying especially if you end up liking a product or recipe. ✓ Gets annoyingIt constantly asks to send notification even after declining for couple of time. Same applies to subscribe to gold subscription. The app is being pushy. Instead of pushing the sales, they should offer a simple feature to auto download your subscription. That kind of feature will nudge me to subscribe to more content. Also there is no page or tab to view only your subscription or purchases. Many book stores and digital publishers offer this as a standard feature. ✓ Abysmal Customer Service with Questionable Business PracticesAs a Magzter GOLD subscriber I was provided with a list of GOLD magazines included as part of my subscription. However, since Nov 2020, three GOLD subscription magazines have failed to be provided. I first contacted "customer service" on Dec 17th to bring this to their attention. Successive email communication has failed to resolve this, culminating in the following boiler-plate response: "Dear xxxxx, Thank you for writing back to us. I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you in this regard. I have escalated your complaint as critical feedback to our team and they are working on this issue. We at Magzter, strive to deliver best reading experience and services to our customers. However, mishaps like these do happen due to unforeseen disengagement of some publishers. We appreciate your time and patience in this regard. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions." There are two issues that arise: First, Magzter's inability to resolve this complaint, even after two months! (so much for 'escalation'). Second, although Magzter is fully aware that these three magazines are not being released by the publisher (resulting in me missing 9 issues so far...), Magzter still lists these magazines as part of their GOLD subscriber package. Why would they still advertise them as part of the GOLD subscription knowing full well that the magazines are not being provided? Questionable business practice at best. I would avoid any type of subscription with Magzter based on misleading advertising and customer service failures..Version: 8.25.6
✓ Definitely a bad buyThe ads are very tempting - thousands of magazines available to read. The reality is very different. Innumerable magazines require additional subscriptions which are not cheap - they are far more expensive than direct subscription with the magazine. The interface is not very intelligent. From the table of contents of a magazine, you cannot navigate to the story. Something one can do in a simple ppt or pdf. Zoom is rather limited even on the browser version. ✓ My magazines disappeared!I have been using Magzter regularly for the past few years. I have generally been happy but recently I have had lots of problems. A couple of times, all my downloads just disappeared .... my old issues of Yoga journal that I have paid for have all disappeared and are not accessible to me any more. I boarded a flight and tried to access my downloaded issues but none are available and I have to now download them all again which is a real nuisance. I am a Magzter gold subscriber and I wasn’t expecting this to happen.... super disappointed and dissatisfied.Version: 7.6
✓ App updates erase my downloaded magazinesI download all of the back issues of my favorite magazines and bookmark the articles I want to refer to on an ongoing basis and then all my downloads are erased from my iPad when an update comes in. At least my bookmarks are there still. And of course now I don’t know which issues I haven’t read yet either. Please fix this, it doesn’t happen with my Zinio and PressReader apps. I’m getting tired of downloading everything. Also, it will not download in the background if you open another app - you have to go back and restart all the downloads again - fix this too please. And, of course, it’s happened again! All of my downloaded magazines are gone and this time the App wasn’t even updated. It did leave my bookmarks for those that I had managed to read but not the actual material linked to them. And I’ve got over 27GB available on my iPad. ✓ Buyer bewareThis is not a good app. I had Texture previously and loved it! $9.99 a month for all my favorite magazines, easy to use, and organized. I have Apple News and hate the format, not easy to use, bookmark, or keep magazines. So I signed up for this app, and it is terrible! Half of my favorite magazines were not included, I would have to pay extra to read them. That is just plain crazy. Working to get a refund back! ✓ Frustrating is an understatementI’d like to preface this by saying I’m not someone old and/or technologically challenged; I am 19, and I am incredibly annoyed. I never write reviews but this app is so impressive in its incompetence that I felt I had to warn people. It is the single most infuriating app I’ve ever downloaded. Every step I take I need to contact support for help. Subscribed to the free trial-couldn’t access anything. Got stuck in a never ending loop of “Try Magzter GOLD FREE!!” irrespective of how many times I subscribed to the trial and entered my details. Emailing support proved to be not helpful in the slightest because the assistance I was given was a regurgitation of the information already available on the website, which I had read prior. Furthermore, when I tried to cancel my subscription before it auto-renewed and charged me for a service I COULD NOT USE all Help and FAQ pages proved completely useless as I was still stuck in the “try Magzter Gold Free!” loop, and the service hadn’t yet registered that I had already been subscribed for nearly a week. All attempts to cancel this subscription have failed, the app is impossible and the website is even worse. TLDR; don’t waste your time..Version: 8.19
✓ ScamI tried the free trial and the magazine I wanted was unavailable so I try to cancel my subscription and the website refuses to load. Everything else works perfectly EXCEPT where you can cancel the trial. So I tried emailing on Thursday and have still not gotten a response. I hoped it would take the place of Texture, but it is really not even close. Too many magazines that were included with Texture are not part of Gold. I guess it is back to paper subscriptions. Reply to developer: I had 29 ‘favorite’ magazines in Texture, all included with the monthly subscription. However, I counted 1,020 available to me under my Gold subscription. Of those about 1/3 are borderline pornography. Of the 1.020 only about 1/4 are current. Many are months or years behind. Anything actually good is additional cost over subscription. I hardly ever write app reviews but thought people should know. ✓ What’s a gold membership for?After Magzter caused all my previously purchased Readers Digest magazines to disappear, only to be available if I re-purchased them from Magzter, and other little problems, I decided to try the Gold Membership so I could at least have access to not only magazines I had already purchased (although I had to settle for a different country’s editions), but could do away with several separate subscriptions. Unlike with a regular subscription, I cannot download and keep my magazine, which I find a bit of a nuisance sometimes. However, the main reason I will not renew my Magzter membership is because each time I have tried to read a magazine that I haven’t seen before, like a science title, that shows up on my home page, I only get an option to pay for the issue. I signed up for the trial which gives a 30 day free trial AND then, unless you cancel the subscription starts charging you after 30 days. I always cancel these auto-renewals, while they’re right there in front of me, then, if I like them I restart them at the end of the trial. It annoys me that I have to do that but I guess they’ve figured out that people tend to leave the subscription alive by default or accident. So, anyway, even though I’m supposed to still have 30 days of my trial left, the app won’t let me read anything, and it says I’m not a gold member. It might be a bug. ✓ Gold subscription issuesI wanted to try the seven-day free trial to Magzter Gold to see how I liked the content and the app. However, after verifying my info through Apple and getting a verification email, I kept getting an error telling me that I don’t have a valid Gold subscription. I then sent an email to customer support and I was told I would get a response with 48-72 hours. In other words, the seven-day free trial is more like four or five days (at best). ✓ C’mon Magzter, really???So I read some of the negative reviews but figured I would try out the free version. I really liked what I saw. I immediately accepted the offer for the Gold account, which was free for 30 days, but requires you to allow the monthly billing through iTunes. So you have to go into iTunes settings if you want to prevent charges after the 30 day trial period. OK, I get that. Spent some time reading and was happy with the choices I had. 12 hours later, Magzter is telling me I don’t have a Gold account. I’ve read other reviews with similar complaints with responses from the company. Obviously, the company either doesn’t care or doesn’t have the know-how or expertise to fix the problem. Think about this, Magzter: what if your readers contact the magazine publishers that you carry and let them know that your faulty app is giving their magazines a bad rap? ✓ Ultra buggy app, good magazine rangeThe app crashes constantly - I don’t think I have been able to read a single magazine without being dumped out of not just the magazine but the whole app and with some titles (Hi-Fi Choice as an example) I cannot read more than 10 pages or so without crashing. 1 star given just for the range of titles available, otherwise would be zero stars. Check the titles you want before subscribing and if they are available go with Readly instead - their app is stable and, subjective I know, better designed..Version: 7.0

✓ Used to be a great appAds started showing up in my magazines that did not used to be there. I am not interested in the ads nor the product. The ads are for a product that is totally unrelated to the content of my magazine. I find them irritating and a nuisance. These are not magazine ads but apparently are now embedded in the app and came with the latest update. No way to opt out. No way to tell Magzter I don’t want them. This used to be a 5-star app. I guess somebody at Magzter figured out a new way to get more advertising revenue. I am seriously considering going back to paper copies of my magazine..Version: 7.1
✓ Charges, Charges, Charges....Just as others have complained, they promise to offer a ‘free’ trial (Which was free.... for two days before they started charging my account!!). They either offer a 7 day ‘free’ trial or 30 day ‘free’ trial depending on the package you get i believe. I received a whole statement from the apple store stating my purchase was $0 but not even 48 hrs after, they started out with a charge of over $10 when I had infact canceled my ‘free’ trial the very same day I downloded the app. Oh & good luck trying to contact Apple Support about this as they won’t be much help..Version: 7.8
✓ Decent Selection but buggy softwareOverall I found the selection of magazines to be decent. It’s true that a lot of the magazines are from Asia or aren’t in English but I found plenty of magazines that interested me. I also had no issues downloading magazines to read offline. The problem is the app keeps deleting all the magazines that I’ve downloaded every few days. I’m trying the 30 day free trial and it’s happened 3 times now. It’s bad enough having to download everything again but you also lose your place in the magazines. I have lots of free space on my iPad so there is no reason to keep losing my downloads. I truly hope this issue can be fixed as it’s a serious flaw in what would otherwise be a pretty good app..Version: 8.14.1

✓ Dreadful AppPaid for gold using Apple Pay only for the payment to be processed but no gold access enabled. I then sent an email to support who after a prompt automated return email advised my problem would be rectified in two to three days however a week later and no further response and I still can’t access what I’ve been billed for. However, magazines that I've subscribed to tend to have a habit of unsubscribing including back issues that have already been paid for over the past five years or so. It's deeply frustrating. ✓ Not clearly explainedI tried a 30 day free trial for gold service. Unlimited access to a wide variety of magazines. Liked it so decided to subscribe to gold service. What is very unclear with this service is the unlimited acess to all magazines does not apply once your free trial is over. You pay $9.99 a month for a store front to purchase any magazines you are interested in. It is presented as a Netflix for magazines for one price but it is not. Feel this is very misrepresented. Won’t be paying for another month subscription. Update: was told via email from Magzter customer service, reason I could not access magazines was they had no record of me purchasing their $9.99 plan. I paid through my apple account. Money was taken to pay for Magzter. I ended up requesting a refund from apple. Apple being the awesome company they are gave me my refund. Can’t recommend Magzter. ✓ Great concept failed miserably by a poorly designed appThe issue reported by reviewer con97 exactly a year ago still exists, issue is every now and then the app prevents you from accessing your gold subscription and you’ll end up without able to read your your favourite magazine until support deals with the issue which is not really quick takes more than a day. What a lazy bunch of developers, its such a shame. SORT it out :- “I'm constantly asked to take out the free trial I already have. I've logged on and off, uninstalled and reinstalled, restore purchases, used the web portal and likewise logged on and off. ✓ Could be 5 stars … one fatal flawGreat price and replacement for the awful Apple News app. They need to hire a real product manager who uses their product, and can see how some terrible design decisions should be (easily) fixed. For instance, after reading an issue, there is no easy way to delete it from your device. You must navigate in the app to some “downloaded” section, then find the issue you just read, then delete. Absolute worst design decision, and proof they are not actually using their own app, because this is just dumb. I bet tons of people simply delete this app because of dumb things like that. ✓ No way to deactivate auto renewalThis advises you can cancel auto renewal at anytime. Which was big reason for signing on this site. So of course, when I went to manage my subscriptions to deactivate auto renewal you couldn’t. So then went to the contact us link and after filling out a email request to ask for instructions on deactivating auto renewal. The email wouldn’t send saying my account wasn’t activated? Not to mention that with the “so called” gold membership doesn’t really give you unlimited access as claimed. Certain magazines can not be accessed.
