The Waste Land for Positive User Reviews

BeautifulEven if you are not familiar with modern poetry or Eliot, anyone who loves language will enjoy this app. The performance by Shaw is worth the price alone. Buy it!.Version: 1.0.1

The WastelandI have just purchased this app. I am delighted with how much content it has. Looking forward to studying this very difficult poem..Version: 1.1.1

SuperbSaw this app featured in The Guardian with video. Downloaded it and found it provides a fresh and breathtaking experience with a poem that I first read in college (about 50 years ago) and have perused from time to time after that. This app makes for an electrifying reacquaintance with a long-lost fascinating friend. The performance of the poem by Fiona Shaw is terrific, and makes Eliot's work appear in new perspectives. I look forward to more apps of this type..Version: 1.0.1

Great AppIt's beautifully put together. Handy if you're studying this for English Literature..Version: 1.1.3

Wish I'd had this app when I was writing my thesis! But I wrote my thesis nearly twenty years ago. The presentation of Eliot!'s poem in this app is alone well worth the price. The scholarship included is also first rate. So many options that help you read the poem without force-feeding you any one interpretation. It's a great way to enjoy Eliot's language and imagery and to draw your own conclusions..Version: 1.0.1

BrilliantI have watched Fiona Shaw's performance at least a dozen times and am always floored..Version: 1.1.3

SublimePerfect use of the iPad - worth it for Fiona Shaw's rendition alone..Version: 1.0.2

WonderfulSadly, this latest update kills the app. It simply will not download either through my iPad or my computer, despite about a dozen attemps. What a shame not to have left well enough alone. This app is an example of everything the iPad is capable of. A magnificent way to study an iconic poem and a tremendous wakeup for anyone who thinks the zillion stupid games that dominate the app store are all there is..Version: 1.0.2

Great app. bug needs to be fixed. This is a wonderful app, but there seems to be a bug. Once you start the video of Fiona Shaw's performance there is no way to stop it and return to the main menu..Version: 1.0.1

AceLove this app, tons of vague apocalyptic musings and deliberately obscurantist classical references!!!! Gameplay is pretty tough, but def worth it -- Level Five unlocked brilliant Special Moves like the Epistemological Anxiety Inducer/Rabbi Smackdown Combo which is a mad classic! If you reckon that High Modernist Neo-Fascist Beat Em Ups are all a bit samey then all i can say is that you really need to check this one out. Totally ace overall, and hope that they brings out the next one ASAP!!! Thanks TS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Version: 1.0.1

If you love poetry get this app!The best App i own. Led me to an appreciation of a difficult poet. It's the perfect illustration of what the iPad can be at its best. I hope they issue more..Version: 1.0.2

ExcellentThis is a welcome change of pace from Touch Press who usually focus on science subjects. It breathes new life into a formidable poem, you can listen to various readings including an electrifying intimate performance by Fiona Shaw which is worth the price of the app alone. You can bring up detailed textual notes to explain the hidden echos and meanings of the poem and a series of filmed essays, Scholarly yet deeply engaging, it's a refreshing look at a classic poem, there is nothing like this on the app store. I hope they produce something similar in the future, perhaps Shakespeare's sonnets or Dickens A Christmas Carol..Version: 1.0.2

AmazingThis is a stunningly well crafted app - elegantly presented, and packed with information about Eliot's knotty poem..Version: 1.0.1

Truly magnificent & highly recommendedThis is an outstanding electronic book. It provides a depth of experience of one of the greatest poems of modern times that would simply not be possible in another medium. Well done..Version: 1.0.1

BeautifulGrateful for this. And would love to see more like it..Version: 1.1.4

Astonishingly richA beautiful app, assembled with love for the poet and his reader. Best alum for money..Version: 1.1.2

Brilliant!I'm thrilled by this app, which seems to me to fulfil all the promise of the iPad. I haven't explored it all yet, but what I have seen - the various readings, Fiona Shaw's bravura filmed reading, notes and so on - has been fascinating. I look forward to digging deeper over the coming weeks and months. Unlike the other two reviewers, by the way, I have had absolutely no problems with the sound. I hesitated to take the plunge because of their problems, but I'm glad I did..Version: 1.0.1

Wonderful !Thanks for the reminder about the mute switch! This is a brilliant use of the iPad's capabilities..Version: 1.0.1

WonderfulPlease make other Elliot poems!! This is great!.Version: 1.0.1

What the iPad does best. Please make more of this type of app. Now I understand why this poem is so important. The app gets out of the way and shows all the nuances I needed to comprehend and charge me up to explore in related areas. Excellent work..Version: 1.0.2

Poem came aliveThis app made the poem come alive for me, especially the video. it makes full use of the iPad's capabilities. I would love to see more of the same with the Four Quartets and other works of literature....Version: 1.1.0

The Waste LandI bought this last week and my wife and I have greatly enjoyed it. It really shows the potential of this type of app. I was also impressed by today's very positive editorial about the app in the New York Times. (I had never seen an editorial praising an app before.).Version: 1.0.1

Wow!First class, excellent production, and Fiona Shaw is fantastic; what a reading Fiona, best I've ever heard!.Version: 1.0.1

FantasticI've never read a poem in my life, but this poem was read out on a game I was playing on my PS3 and it fascinated me, I since found out the name of the poem and was obsessed with it iv actually learnt all the "what are the roots that clutch" part in my head. why am I so drawn into this poem I will never know, I'm not interested in any other poems but downloaded this so I can always have it, for I know only a heap of broken images.....Version: 1.0.2

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderfulThis is indeed a wonderful app, and a good developer. When I first downloaded the app, I couldn't get the audio to work, and wrote for help. The developers worked with me through several problem-solving e-mails and got it to work. It is worth the price, and I believe it sets a new standard for e-books..Version: 1.0.1

Superb Literature AppThis app is brilliant and really brings to life one of the most important works of the early 20th Century. Fiona Shaw's performance is simply breathtaking and the extra material is truly fascinating! This app is worth every cent for the T.S. Eliot devotee!.Version: 1.1.0

BenchmarkThis app sets a benchmark for critical editions of literary and historical texts. Don't miss it!.Version: 1.0.1

GreatI enjoyed seeing this great example of what is possible as an ebook app..Version: 1.0.1

ExcellentThis app does everything it sets out to do. It's slick and informative, and it's a joy to use. No problems with any functionality..Version: 1.0.1

Superbe!Bien pensé, bien fait!.Version: 1.0.1

Outstanding AppThis app is a simply fantastic means of enhancing the experience of literature with modern technological tools. The audio recordings are excellent. The quality is very good, and the different readers provide distinct readings. Alec Guiness and Ted Hughes are my favourites. Fiona Shaw's performance has moments of serious silliness, but it's generally an interesting rendition of the poem. The quality and extent of the notes are also impressive..Version: 1.0.1

ExcellentAbsolutely beautiful. A delight to read and Fiona Shaw's performance is admirable. Other highlights for me include Seamus Heaney's commentary and the original Pound-edited drafts. Only disappointment is Alec Guinness reading; he sounds a complete prat..Version: 1.0.1

ExquisiteFiona Shaw's video reading is stunning and along with the poem and supplementary materials sets a new standard for literary media presentation in an iPad app..Version: 1.0.1

Just fabulous; ignore the naysayersThis is an absolutely superb app that enables the reader to explore Eliot's masterpiece in a whole variety of different ways, whether it be through the text alone, with accompanying notes, via the original manuscript or through performance. I cannot wait to give this my undivided attention on holiday this summer. As to those reviewers giving this a measly one star — sometimes I just despair for humankind!.Version: 1.0.1

The way forwardHaving had the ipad a while now, its clear to me that its main potential is as a reading device. I can look up a word with one tap of a finger while reading an ebook, and it has rekindled (excuse the pun) my love of superhero comics. The use of newspaper and magazine apps, and the web, with an app like instapaper, which allows you to save interesting pages for reading later, is superb. However I believe that The Waste Land app takes us a step further to give a glimpse of the iPads true potential. I also had an audio issue, which Touchpaper came back to me on within 24 hours. If it's not your mute button it's because the iPod app is on mute. Highly recommend..Version: 1.0.1

Amazing app! This is the kind of app I'd love to see more of! It would be great if there was one about a philosopher/philosophy paper...perhaps Bertrand Russell?! Well, the dramatic reading by Fiona Shaw was really nice and I love reading the poem while the author's voice reads it!.Version: 1.0.1

An App that shows the potential of an iPad experienceThis app is truly an interactive experience, allowing the user to explore The Waste Land in all it's nuances. Readings, notes, video performance, photographs are all part of one's journey of discovery. The app uses the iPad to its fullest capacity. Well worth the price and simply brilliant. I look forward to more from Touch Press..Version: 1.0.2

A revolutionary app for a revolutionary poemThe Waste Land revolutionized the world of English poetry. And this app is a revolutionary literary experience. What is so exciting is the way in which this app uses the technology of the iPad to enhance our experience of literature. The videos, readings, manuscripts, and notes are incredible! My only regret is that this wasn't around when I was studying the Waste Land in college! It would've been a dream come true. Bravo, Touch Press!.Version: 1.0.1

Interactive Notes Inaccurate to TouchWhen you touch on a highlighted part, the note does not pop up. You have to touch around the highlighted part—left, right, above, below and everywhere in between—to get the note to pop up. Very frustrating! Sent a support note to the devs. Let’s see whether and how soon they will fix it. iPad OS 16.3.1; iPad Air 5th gen. Other than the “Perspectives” section, the content seems to be OK..Version: 2.0.1

But when will the Shakespeare Sonnets be released? The only iPad app I can think about now is the forthcoming Sonnets collection. The heavens speed thee in thine enterprise!.Version: 1.0.2

BrilliantQuite simply, this is stunningly effective. As an English literature teacher I'd recommend it to anyone teaching Eliot, poetry, and media..Version: 1.0.1

The Waste LandStunning. A blueprint for all poetry apps. I cannot commend the producers of this app highly enough..Version: 1.1.1

OutstandingWell worth it. If you're into Eliot or are new to this work, this is money well spent. Have not encountered one single bug or weird thing..Version: 1.0.2

BravoThank God Canadians can buy this app. One of the greatest poems of the 20th C. Let's see more, perhaps, some Robert Lowell..Version: 1.0.1

Worth the price. Great app. Please make more apps just like this for other works. Truly the best App I own even with the higher price. Totally worth it..Version: 1.0.2

Missing textThis is a beautiful app, and I do appreciate the readings. However, I am very disturbed that Eliot's own footnotes and epigrams are missing. They are _very_ much part of the text. The inclusion of a high school level "critical" notes was a little disappointing..Version: 1.0.1

A Model For Presenting LiteratureThis app offers a model for presenting literary works in all their richness on a mobile device. I love the readings by several actors, and the scholarly interpretations deepen our appreciation. Touch press has shown us what can be done, both with this app and the one on Shakespeare's sonnets. I have been waiting, waiting, waiting, wandering through the vast waste land of the App Store looking for more apps that illuminate and present literary works in this way. Please, I will buy them..Version: 1.1.3

FabulousHad no problems running this on the first iPad produced. This is, for me, a first example of proper alternative to a book. To see videos, hear alternative readings of the work and be able to explore the manuscript over and above having the text to read is fascinating. Apps have just gone up a level. Thank you to the makers..Version: 1.1.0

ExcellentPlease don't hesitate to give us more titles like this. Your annotated version of The Waste Land is what iPad does best..Version: 1.0.2

Very pleasedThis is a solid effort to help people understand The Waste Land. I enjoyed the short video interviews and especially the reading/interpretation of the poem. Five star effort..Version: 1.0.2

IPad sound problemThis beautiful app didn't work on my iPad, at first - no sound coming through. (It seems there's an iPad issue when the side lock option is set to Lock Rotation rather than Mute, perversely.) Loving the app in all it's glory now..Version: 1.1.0

New readingIrons and Atkins - brilliant!.Version: 1.1.0

GreatnessThis is really excellent, both for those who love Eliot, and for those who have been put off reading the Waste Land. A complete set of notes along with a large amount of other supplementary material makes this now the ideal way to approach the poem. And one of the numerous audio readings included is by no less than Alec Guinness. Finally, a touch of class on the iPad..Version: 1.0.1

WonderfulA fantastic performance of the poem by Fiona Shaw plus recordings by the poet himself and others. Awesome!.Version: 1.0.2

WonderfulI imagine this ap has been a labour of love by the Faber team who created it, and is a joy for anyone who loves The Wasteland, so congratulations to them on producing a ‘must have' ap here. It has everything you could imagine you would love to see in an e-version of The Wasteland. Anyone lucky enough to have seen Fiona Shaw's superlative performance of The Wasteland will know that alone is worth buying this ap for. But Faber have pulled all the stops out for this and included so much more that is quite outstanding. A benchmark publication, I can't imagine how it could be improved..Version: 1.0.1

Minus * for $I absolutely love this basic concept regarding digital media/eBook/iBook but find the price point out of balance with actually content which is in fact ONE POEM. Sure they went all out with supporting materials but it's still just one poem, and i am loathe to imagine what a full volume of poems would cost or if it would even fit on my iPad 32GB. I would pursue more of such volumes only if the price were to come down to around $5 a piece..Version: 1.0.1

ExcellentMy goodness, wouldn't Eng Lit be enriched by more of these?.Version: 1.0.1

Great readings - a superb appI love this app. A little expensive but you are paying for quality. The reading by Elliot is very odd! Ted Hughes's interpretation is brilliant - his earthy masculine voice brings this strange and evocative work to life..Version: 1.0.2

Brilliant if you love this great poem!Expensive but a great resource to carry around with you. Readings are superb, notes exhaustive. A treat to treasure! This lives with me now.Version: 1.0.2

The Waste LandCrazy expensive. App paid for self in first 24 hours. Months and years of value to come..Version: 1.1.0

Outstanding...Thank YouI am reviewing this poem, again, with a friend, and this app with its multiple readings and perspectives gives such a richness to the experience. I also appreciate being able to add my notes alongside..Version: 1.1.0

OutstandingI, like another reviewer, read the poem about 50 years ago. While I enjoyed it then, I certainly did not get as much from it as I have in the few days I've had this app on my ipad. Fiona Shaw's performance is remarkable. Please, please, please -- more of these difficult classics..Version: 1.0.1

The Waist LandWhat a delight! I keep coming back to this App time and time again! Well worth the purchase, thank you!.Version: 1.1.0
