B&W Photography Magazine for Positive User Reviews

Great magazineOne of my favorite magazines for black and white photography. Great articles and photography. The digital format is great..Version: 4.1.7

BigbirdGreat magazine on the iPad much cheaper than buying at news stand. The magazines just download slowly.Version: 4.9.10

Great MagA great mag with wonderful images and great content..Version: 4.9.4

Great app/digital magazineThis is a great app allowing you to have many editions of the magazine with you. The best Black and White photography magazine available. Great when traveling, in a cave on your own, or stuck waiting anywhere and you want something useful to do to kill the time..Version: 4.9.10

Great MagazineBlack + White is a wonderful source for really good photography, ideas, inspiration, and information. I thoroughly enjoy each issue!.Version: 6.0.0

One of the bestONE OF THE BEST MAGAZINES ON THE NEWSSTAND. WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO SAY?.Version: 4.9.10

Fine Art photography in B&WThis is an excellent magazines that inspires and motivates any photographer at and level. Most photo mags are excellent for beginners and that is it, this is not the case with this magazine. First rate articles and images of the highest calibre. It inspires and motivates. Strangely enough some of the special editions costing close to £13.00 does not match the high standard of the magazine. The Macro appears very disappointing and appears no to go beyond beginners level of photography, let alone Macro specifically..Version: 4.9.34

Better than expectedThis is my first iPad magazine subscription, and I was suprised as to how easy it all was. The magazine looses little from the paper version in terms of image quality and gains plenty in terms of useability. I've read B&W Photography since edition one and would thoroughly recommend it for anyone interested in this artform - digital or film. There's well written articles on the art, process and equipment (though thankfully not too many on the latter). It's put together by photographers, for photographers, and not for equipment junkies..Version: 4.1

A great magazineI have been buying Black and White Photography magazine since issue 1, I know buy both versions, the paper one and app one, I love buying the paper one to read while having coffee or a pint in town, the app one, they are all instantly available. Bazzer the Jazzer.Version: 4.9.10

Always outstanding.Black and White Photography sets the bar so high.True quality from beginning to end!.Version: 4.10.5

Inspirational contentI look forward to every issue. I always learn something new and find inspiration to take with me when photographing..Version: 6.0.0

Always intersting photos and articles. To me this magazine of B&W photography, highlights the essential aspects of photos of the celebrated photographers of yesteryear, through the modern digital medium..Version: 6.0.0

A great publicationI’ve been a subscriber for over five years. Love it. Love Tim Clinch, who writes two articles in each edition, plus Elizabeth’s editorials are always good reading. Plenty of styles of photography is showcased, so all tastes are catered for over a year..Version: 6.0.0

Love this magazine but needs improvementsI absolutely love this magazine and have quite a few of them in my room the problem is the majority of them ARE in my room it would be great if you have already purchased the magazine in person you could get a unique code (either on the magazine or receipt) that you could enter so you also have the electronic copy! Also the app runs really slow!!!.Version: 4.1

Highest quality photography tome!I can't believe there is not a single review for this magazine. This publication is of the highest quality with in-depth articles and excellent photography. It's dense with ideas and inspiration. I look forward to it every month. Highly recommended..Version: 4.9.51

If you like BW photographyYou will love this!.Version: 3.1.2

CoolLike it:).Version: 4.9.10

If you love photography, get this app!Have bought this magazine for years, always enjoyed it. You have to download the app, then you can order the magazine (you get one free copy for downloading the app). Each copy is like $4.99 and they give you a deal if you want a 6 copy subscription, etc. Easy to download and use, you can view in portrait or landscape, I have an iPad 1 and have not had any problems with it. This magazine is hard to find in the U.S., unless you go to Barnes and Nobel, or some other big box news stand, etc . Looks great on the iPad and you can pinch/zoom. The pinch/zoom does get a little crazy (do it slow) or it zooms up real fast. If you lay it down (the iPad), the application (magazine), flips like a real one. Well worth the time/money..Version: 3.1.2

Problems with some issuesOver the years I have read the magazine, I have seen improvements. Still no text only mode, but readable at a pinch on the iPhone and better on iPad. Needs more work, and maybe an iPad special edition to allow us more features..Version: 4.9.73

Creative lift in difficult timesAlways a date to look forward to is the release date of B&W monthly . The bemused ramblings of the editor and contributor Tim Clinch & Lee Frost is a real spirit lifter and inevitably brings a smile to my face , with much reduced adverts as other mags but with more creative content too boot . It’s a winner ! Just one criticism ☝🏻, when the date of release is given , stick to it ! ( we do understand the current situation though 😉) but just put a later realistic date 👍🏻.Version: 6.4.0

Outstanding Examples of B&W workThis magazine does and excellent job of highlighting work that is strengthened by being in B&W. The writing and editorial comments around this work are first rate..Version: 6.0.0

Ace magazineTop black and white magazine..Version: 4.9.86

Awesome Addition to my iPad CollectionI noticed a couple of comments here about portrait only mode and wanted to chip in. I bought it anyway and was pleasantly surprised to find that it's landscape in the landscape orientation and portrait when the iPad is portrait. Very happy to have access to this magazine, something that is very difficult to find in the US and is very expensive when you do..Version: 3.1.2

Great magazine, so-so appThe magazine itself is excellent, but the app could be better: It doesn't remember where you left off, very annoying It displays a full page ad for specials every time you launch the app... Grrrr The app doesn't take advantage of being digital ; there's no search across issues, you can't select text, there are very few links and there isn't a nice readable view such ad the reader in safari or ing . Navigation could also be much better. Overall, it's about time an app was released that takes full advantage of being on an ipad. This is no more than a slightly cumbersome way of showing the print edition on the ipad screen. 5* for the magazine. 2* for the app..Version: 4.9.54

No problems. Great magazineGreat mag with great content and reasonable price. Highly recommended.Version: 4.9.4

Overall good appYes a little blurry zoomed but better than other option of being unable to read! Good articles and enjoy the film and digital content! All around a great magazine and cheaper and lighter than the physical option of carrying 40 magazines on a plane or to Starbucks.Version: 4.10.5

OutstandingAn outstanding app for an outstanding magazine. Every edition packed with highly readable articles, straightforward and practical advice from professional photographers..Version: 4.9.10

As good as the print versionUnlike most digital mags this as clear images and easy to read. No crash or freeze on this mag. 5*.Version: 4.9.94

Great ShowcaseB&W has always been a great standard bearer not only for Black and White photography but also the art form itself. The iPad edition is fantastic and the extra visual content makes the switch well worth it. So why not five stars, well it would be good if they could optimise the images for this format just like the fantastic iPad version of the British Photographic Journal. However this is the only negative to a great magazine. Well done and keep t he standard going..Version: 4.9.10

Black and White Photography MagazineI have a number of magazines from Zinio and others and this is the best by far. Not being able to read whilst it is downloading is no big problem and I can't say that the time each page loads is either. The big plus points are being able to scroll back and forth on double page spreads that have one photograph and the quality of the reproductions are excellent..Version: 3.1.2

Great magWonderful magazine for people interested in black and white photography..Version: 4.9.10

Great magLove both the magazine and the iPad experience. Too many photography magazines from the Newsstand's selection feel either amatorish or plain ugly, this one manages to combine great and varied content with inspiring images and a good iPad experience. Recommended!.Version: 4.9.81

InspiringAmazing articles and inspire for excellence !.Version: 4.9.86

Only B&W magazine to consider!I’ve been subscribing to Black+White magazine since the first issue; from paper to soft-copy. Indeed, I have seen several changes over the years, from editors to overall format - but one thing stays constant: high quality features and consistency of its content. B+W has stayed away from endless ‘top heavy’ reviews on gear, but only that’s essential. Over the years, through this magazine, I have learnt a lot from featured photographers and regular articles that challenged readers ‘look and see’ the ordinary through a ‘black & white’ photograph’s eye - extremely valuable to me as an accomplished colour worker but now serious about ‘black & white’ image making. Thank you, Black+White!.Version: 7.0.15

A great b+w publicationI've subscribed to digital edition of the magazine for a couple f years now. The quality is consistently high and a wide range of different photographers are profiled so there is something for all styles of photographer..Version: 6.0.0

Best there s for BW contentI've long enjoyed the print version of BW Photography and was delighted to see it available as an app. It reads easily on my iPad mini. It downloads quickly and its design makes moving through the mag super simple. The content of this publication is top notch in every single issue. If you like photography, and especially bw photography, this magazine will not disappoint..Version: 4.9.54

Top App, Top MagThis is the leading photography magazine, B&W or Colour, it simply has the best content, articles, comment, instruction.. Always recommended..Version: 4.9.10

Great photo magazineBlack and White has everything you would ask of a photo magazine. It covers classic and modern angles. It gives practical advice on improving you skill level and follows current trends in photo art. All wrapped up in each issue to be Sabo red like a fine meal; one course at a time. One of the best being published in this shallow time of vapid photo practice..Version: 7.0.15

Great update for a great magazineLike the outdoor photography a well deserved, and implemented, update. Quicker, more stable and read whilst downloading makes a big difference..Version: 4.9.4

Better than the Last VersionEverything seems pretty great. All the major issues from the last version are fixed.Version: 4.2.3

Great writing and excellent photography.Look forward to each issue. Focused more on images than equipment. Quality work..Version: 4.9.94

Black and White PhotographyI always used to buy the magazine, but it's so convenient to subscribe on the iPad. It's a great mag!.Version: 4.9.4

Must read! This is the best photography Magazine out there. Always bringing interesting articles, the new and the classic, with a poetic approach. always a pleasure to read!.Version: 4.9.73

The benchmark for digital magazinesFantastic, quality content reasonably priced. The magazine looks stunning back-lit on the iPad screen and I did not hesitate to subscribe. The subscription costs of other magazines stopped me signing up but this one is fairly priced..Version: 4.9.10

InspiringI have been buying B&W Photography from issue 1, but have also recently taken out an iPad subscription. I love the paper copy for the quality of the printed photographs which I find so inspiring! The iPad version is great for travelling when I don't wish to risk accidentally trashing the paper magazine. Despite the wonderful guidance on Lightroom and digital techniques (such as using histograms) the magazine has reawakened my interest in B&W film photography and as a result of buying one of the magazine's recommended books - 'England Observed by John Gay) I have dusted off my Nikon slr and trusty 50mm lens, unpacked my developing tank and enlarger to reuse the skills first acquired more than 35 years ago in the school darkroom with dodging and burning in. This has rekindled my passion for going out and looking at the world again to find pictures and I owe a great debt to the magazine, the Editor and all it's contributors for bringing me so much pleasure from photography! A true icon amongst photographic magazines with the right balance on equipment reviews, informative articles and wonderful pictures! Long may publication continue!.Version: 4.9.10

A great addition to my iPad libraryOne of my very favorite photo mags, conveniently on my iPad...what could be better? I've got all the great articles, features and photos I usually purchase from the newsstand each month now at my fingertips. This is a terrific app, and I'll be purchasing more editions in the future..Version: 3.1.2

Love this magIdentical to the print version, clear and beautiful photos and text and saves money and paper, easy to read and I like the easy page turning and browsing! Easily as good as the print version and cheaper. Unless you want actual print mags piling up in your house, what's not to like..Version: 3.1.2

GreatGives me what I need fast.Great contrast..Version: 4.9.99

Great magazine!Without a doubt, an excellent magazine. A true rarity in this digital age to have a magazine specialised in B&W! I subscribe to both written and digital issues. But having it available digitally is great as I can cross index and file according to my specific needs..Version: 4.9.4

Best photographic magazineWay back before computers when photography was all about film and darkrooms I used to read this magazine and it was excellent source of info and techniques back then. Now its all mobile digital photos and quick fix editing its So Good to find this dedicated black and white magazine is still in the front line for info and techniques, and digitised too. Highly recommend this magazine..Version: 4.9.10

Brilliant, Original, Well WrittenNot the same old stuff. Excellent, informed, creative, original. So nice to read something that is original..Version: 4.9.73

Beautiful...Simply a beautiful informative magazine that works really well on iPad or iPhone. If you have an interest in black and white photography and inspiring images then look no further..Version: 4.9.54

Consistently well producedUpdate May 2014 just to say thanks again. When you get tired of all the hype, this is the one to center your eye. Sometimes I'm really tired from shooting but I'm still just so in love with my camera I want to go on being in my work. I sit in the twilight at 2 a.m. and read this. 1st review: My go-to read for the company of people who just care about photography. It's a quiet friendly magazine with straight forward commentary on technique. Always has at least one shoot whose images inspire me. Thanks!.Version: 4.9.51

Great b/w MagazineI’am an old fashioned when it come to black and white photography. I took a class back in community college for how to develop a film and ending up to use of enlarger to prints my own creations master prints. Black and white will still the original of all Photography. of course the digital brought the technology but the method will still the same and b/w will lives forever!.Version: 6.0.0

OutstandingOutstanding magazine a must for the serious B & W photographer..Version: 4.9.10

Great content let down by slow and clumsy download processReally enjoy the content - great for iPad!.Version: 4.9.73

Spectacular! This is without a doubt THE best photography magazine out there (and I subscribe to several and read about a dozen every month). It is truly focused on photography, as opposed to the other 98% of "photography" publications that are slanted heavily toward software, gear or technique. Though there are a very select few product reviews (i.e. tripods, wide angle lenses) which are tested and rated in every issue the overarching theme is on photography as an art. Reviews are always to serve the greater good of the medium, rather than sheer product consumption and camera collecting. And finally, the writing. I immediately go right to Lee Frost's articles; as he is not only a stellar photographer, but an equally fine writer on the subject as well. An absolute pleasure to read his column every month. Simply put - there is no other photography magazine that comes close to the news, interviews, industry coverage, commentary (and technique, and reviews) as this UK publication. Guaranteed to entertain, inspire, educate and make you a better photographer!.Version: 4.9.10

Great magazineThis magazine is really great. Content is always interesting. App is designed well as well..Version: 4.9.94

Great magazine for your iPadI used to really love the hard copy versions of this magazine, but I bought it erratically and missed many copies. Besides, what do you do with a pile of paper magazines? This, for me, is the best solution. Now I can keep up, without feeling guilty about the waste of paper..Version: 4.9.73

A serious magazineFor anyone seriously into monochrome photography this is a must-have magazine. The articles are well balanced and informative; the equipment reviews are always well researched and trustworthy. Well worth taking out a subscription..Version: 4.9.73

Content is excellentIt's a great magazine. I've not found too many mags on b&w but this is a good one. The app works well enough. Don't be put off by people saying the app is poor, it's not. It delivers the magazine in good quality and works well. I think some people would like it to do more interactive stuff. And that's a fair request. But it's a request not a fault. This app works ok and delivers the excellent content in a professional way. What I like about this mag is that it tackles all types of b&w and doesn't just focus on one area. So regardless of if you like portraiture, landscape, street or fine art, you will find something to relate to..Version: 4.10.5

Great magThis magazine covers black & white in both film and digital...best mag on the market. Beautiful photos, great articles..Version: 4.9.10

Great appI have been using this app for about twelve months and have had no issues whatsoever it's simple to use and on the one occassion I needed customer support it was done very quickly and my query was dealt with within 24 hrs. The interface is clean and quick and looks great on my ipad..Version: 4.9.10

All goodEnjoy reading it on my iPhone and iPad, but still prefer the printed version :-).Version: 4.9.10

One of the Very Best Monthly MagazinesI have read this magazines for many years in analogue form. I love the digital format, prefer reading in on the iPad rather than iPhone. Digital also saves the physical storage issue which pleases my wife!.Version: 4.9.54

Great magazineA rare magazine dedicated only to black-and-white photography, it has beautiful work with interesting ideas to share from time to time, and will help to inspire photographers interested in this field. I agree with one of the reviewers saying that the words are not particularly crisp, but I still manage to read them zooming in with 1 foot away, so I'm fine with this. The only thing I wish, if they could lower their issue price a bit, that will be wonderful as some other British magazine comes as low as $0.99 per issue. The downloading time will take a little while, but your patience will be rewarded accordingly..Version: 4.1.7

Ideas, Execution & EquipmentBlack &White is an infinite source of information about the current and past ideas of photography. Photography as pure art is about visual communication from photographer to viewer of the imagined or perceived idea in reaction to an image which was formed in the photographer's mind or seen by their eyes and then transmitted to the viewer by a printed or electronic medium. Black and White's editors attract the newest, most interesting and most informative new ideas and present them in high resolution words and images. They inform their subscribers of the latest exhibits. The articles also provide insight into the newest techniques and equipment as well. I read to inform myself, inspire my own attempts to create and enjoy the beauty found by others. A magnificent publication!.Version: 4.9.86

Great Photography MagazineThe content of Black & White magazine is up there with the best and the app is intuitive to use. Highly recommend..Version: 4.9.73
