Nest Egg - Inventory for Negative User Reviews

What a waste. CONSTANTLY FREEZES!Will no longer properly allow photo to load into the listing! I’ve never seen an app freeze as much as this one does. In one fifteen minute period, it freezes 5-6 tomes, every time you minimize the app, when you come back, it’s frozen and you have to close it completely and start over, losing everything you’ve put in to that point! I also purchased the ability to save file attachments to my item listings, and it won’t work. It wants me to purchase it repeatedly every time I try to use it, even though it shows up as purchased already. What a piece of junk this app is. What a shame..Version: 4.2.14

UselessAutofill doesn't work!!!.Version: 3.2

Terrible appBarcode scanner is terrible. Useless if you can’t scan collectible bar codes and lookup. Not working on Swarovski boxes or many of my dvds. Very frustrating as the old version worked better, plus now you charge extra to export the data!.Version: 4.2.24

Device sync MAJOR drawbackProgram would rate 5 stars with multiple device sync. Support states it is a security and sync dependability issue. I’ve used Wonderlist that syncs reliably between devices without issue. Not sure why it can’t be done with this app as well. The security issue could be resolved by offering device sync as an option. The current sync method is archaic. Wonderlist is a free app, This app is expensive and has become useless for my needs without device sync..Version: 4.1.62

Scanning rarely works, especially on newer itemsOne of the main reasons I purchased this app (and paid again for some of the extra features) was for the scanning. I'm aware that successful scanning depends on many factors, all of which I have varied multiple times (adjusting the lighting, isolating the barcode by covering nearby barcodes, etc, etc.). I've even tried typing in "official" barcode numbers, which still are aren't recognized by the app. I've contacted customer support several times, with examples, and while they worked with me to troubleshoot at first, I haven't heard back from them since I sent examples back in April 2022..Version: 4.2.16

No Cloud Device SyncNot sure if they deliberately omitted syncing between personal Devices in order to push their (clearly Business oriented) Cloud app, or not; but wow, what a blind spot that was. Could be a 4, maybe 5-star app, if only they’d simply implement this feature—one that most apps have by default, for free; though, I wouldn’t mind paying another dollar-something for it. Speaking of, an “All Premium Features” payment option would’ve been nice. Paying for each individual feature, in 2021, is a drag, and feels like it’s 2011 all over again. Anyway, not bad for what it’s actually meant to do; it’s just that actually using it productively is a pain. UX definitely needs to be re-examined..Version: 4.2.13

Useless for AustraliansThis app is useless as the barcode reader app does not work in Australia.Version: 3.7.1

Ok but needs better reportsThis app has everything you need as far as managing personal or small business inventory. The UI is ok but very tedious adding hundreds of items individually. Need ability to add a batch of images and then name them. Where it lacks is the management of data and sharing/export features. I need to provide my insurance company with an itemized PDF that includes images, but the only way to do that currently is saving the HTML as PDF and you end up with tiny thumbnail images which are unusable. Please improve export options. Sortly is much better for that. Also the import process is cumbersome. Took me days to edit a spreadsheet exported from the app with additional items and import it back in. I requested support a couple weeks ago and have not heard back yet..Version: 4.1.63

Consider CarefullyThey prevent you from doing the simplest act of sharing between devices on your one Apple Account. The app works well, and is comprehensive. I would like to share the data between my iPhone and iPad. Though I understand they have a subscription Cloud service, I would hope that would not be the necessary solution for a single user that paid for the application and has only a single Apple account. Not sharing it with other family members, or a corporate level. Just the account that paid for the application. When I asked, I was told that it was not possible, and that, “Apple iCloud is not capable of doing what you wish with Nest Egg data.” I’m afraid they went from a company that specifically noted how they respected your privacy and being helpful, to preventing you from doing what so many other application do out of the box, in order to force you to join the subscription route. Their solution is to backup and restore each time you switch devices. Otherwise, it is a well designed and thorough application. UPDATE The development team responded very quickly with specific responses to my complaints, and justified their positions. Though there are other apps that appear to synch between devices, I appreciate they have stance or principle they are adhering to..Version: 4.1.57

Good, missing some key thingsIt’s overall pretty good, but I do wish that there was a way to use a web UI so I could use my laptop some. Also, would love to be able to bulk update (e.g.: when moving, update location on 500+ records). Really, I just want there to be an easy sync way to have my family and I update our home inventory..Version: 4.2.11

DecentThis makes it easy to keep my house organized. I give it 3 stars bc you can’t go further without making a purchase for the extended version. It is fine but then once I did make the purchase..I had to start ALL over again. It doesn’t save what you already entered..Version: 4.2.24

Does what it says, terrible experienceDownloaded this to do home inventory. I’d strongly recommend against using it. Data entry is a pain, with multiple clicks to create a record and snap a photo. It doesn’t auto populate anything from the previous record, so if you have 20 items in your living room to inventory you need to select living room each time. It cannot output to PDF and saves files locally which makes them really hard to export. You cannot even email them to yourself from the app. Wasted five bucks on this app for sure..Version: 4.1.69

Pages Aren’t Readable in IOS 13 Dark ModeI am running the latest version of your app, but the pages are unreadable in IOS 13+ because of the font colors when in dark mode. Works fine in light mode, but not dark. Please fix as I prefer dark mode..Version: 4.1.61

Sort as a super advanced featureIn-app purchase just to be able to sort items? No thanks..Version: 4.1.67

No bad overallBut some add one don’t seem to add much value or work... like relational tagging, and advanced filters. It be nice to be able to select categories and get a list of all items in that category...but doesn’t happen. It’d also be nice to have the ability to assign an item to multiple categories...but no luck there either..Version: 4.2.2

Not user friendly - no directionsIt opens directly into the app with no tutorial or info. I got the app gimping to keep track of holiday decorations as I put them away for the year but immediately it was a mess. The version I downloaded said it was free and included most of the features I wanted which was basically just to take a picture of the item and note which box I put it in. Took one picture and was told I’d have to upgrade. I decided it was worth the $5 to just get the full app. That didn’t really provide much leeway or accessibility in the app. If your super serious about inventorying pantry or other items around the house it’s worth it but I just want to keep track of the decorations and I feel like it’s more headache than it’s worth..Version: 4.2.26

Not able to migrate existing database using csvIt’s a great inventory app if starting out an inventory from scratch but if you intend to migrate an existing database and progress from that, this is not the app for you as it does not import exported csv. It only restores from the .egg backup file. I only found out after purchasing as restore is blocked in the lite version..Version: 4.1.33

Hold onto your wallets, kids....I just purchased this app for $6.99USD (which for me will need to be converted to CDN) as an upgrade from the Lite version, and after being in the upgraded app for 5 minutes I have to say I’m very disappointed in it and wish I were able to reverse the transaction. What is not made clear to you when upgrading is that a good majority of the apps features and benefits are add-on costs over and above the, already overpriced, base fee of $6.99. In fact, 5 out of 6 features (attachments, tagging, sorting, uploading via CSV file, and the ability to have a passcode) are not included and you must pay more money in order to activate each one that you want. Furthermore, the description mentions being able to share your data amongst multiple devices, which was also appealing to me as that way everyone in the family would be able to access and update the inventory in real time ... nope, think again. Another extra charge. By the time you finish paying for every upgrade to get features that would usually be considered standard, you’ll be out at least $20. For me, the price, coupled with the underlying slyness the developers have shown in the way they have set up this multi-tiered cash grab just aren’t worth it..Version: 4.2.11

BummerI am accustomed to data synching automatically between my iPad and iPhone. Looks like a good app - but yeah I guess you can view on multiple devices if you want to constantly back up and restore. This is way too much trouble..Version: 4.2.13

Doesn’t work with iOS14 Pro Max CameraYou can’t scan a barcode easily, if at all, using the app on an 14 pro max iPhone, because the app doesn’t have a tap-to-focus feature. Scanning on a iPad works perfectly, because there’s only one camera with no depth. The developers ask you to shake your phone to focus, I assure you it doesn’t work. Don’t waste your money, because there’s no account setup you cannot retrieve the data from the other device. Each device has its own products. I can only assume there’s an additional cost, but it’s unclear so don’t waste an additional $20 trying to figure it out. You’ve been warned..Version: 4.2.24

The Charges Keep ComingYou buy it and expect a full experience. However, you then have to pay for feature such as filter and passwork protection. The APP that keeps on taking. Seriously if I buy the APP dont keep charging me for every little feature. FRUSTRATED!!!!!!.Version: 4.2

Terrible appDoes not do what it says. Can't enter or track warranty info which is the main reason I downloaded this app. Barcode reader doesn't work in Australia. Can't add extra categories. I hate developers who lie about what their apps can do..Version: 3.7.8

Not What ExpectedSo far it seems difficult to use. Wanted to use to inventory house before moving but seems cumbersome..Version: 4.2.2

Just another scamDear Developer, Please do not put this kind of scam in the market. when you develop something please think its through... this application can online add new item by scan, but how about search an item by scaning the item ?. and also this application can not add your own category, why do you say its can. This knid of problems make people like me will not ever buy application from you or any others deeloper. Itune please check this apps before you guys allow it to be launch thanks, Tony Saint Hua.Version: 3.3

Since the up-grade the app crashes & won't open.Since the upgrade the app will not open. Constantly crashes instantly touch app to try to open it. It worked well before the update. Using ipad 2 with os.5, so it should work. Please Hurrey and fix it..Version: 3.8

Start by importing existing CSV file useless - money money and then nothingI have imported my existing CSV file into the app for two lots of $0.99 in app purchases only to find that it wont place the data within nest, The only data it imports is from a previous backup which is useless as there is no data there and I don’t want to start all over again. Frustrating.Version: 4.2.6

So so…not worth the moneyReally bad. It’s picking up less than half of the books and CDs I’m scanning. It was doing all right during the preview. Maybe it’s better suited for other things, but it does have those categories included in the app…??.Version: 4.2.26

Needs an UpdateNestegg is the best one time purchase home inventory app on the AppStore thus far. However, it needs some bug fixes- especially concerning paid add ons. For instance, there seems to be no way to edit the title and description of Tags add on. I also see no way to add tags to the Export feature, only Categories. Cloud looks cool to deal with the storage option, but it seems built specifically for small business and not home/personal inventory. There’s also no way of getting the template for the CSV to populate outside the app. When adding photos, the crop feature doesn’t properly center when using the in-app camera and I don’t know where on my device these photos are stored or how to delete them from the phone, not just the app. Same for attachments. Where do they live? I think this app is great, and I would just like to see the paid add ons more integrated with the core app and other add ons since we are paying extra for features that really don’t function the way you’d expect. You don’t find this out until after you pay. I’m looking forward to the next update and hope they make the app add ons function more intuitively and respective of the devices storage limits..Version: 4.2.13

Dont buy !Doesnt do anything you need another app to read barcode then that does not work either big rip off.Version: 3.8.4

Crashes constantlyEvery time I add an item or try to add photos (by the way, that costs extra), the app freezes and crashes. Save often. Great idea, but so much wasted time..Version: 4.1.69

Warranty tracking non friendlyOk, but tedious to track different Products from same manufacturer with different warranty periods. Assumes manufacturer puts same warranty on all it's products and requires entering a different name for same manufacturer everytime period is different - results in "crowding" lists of manufacturers and cumbersome tracking. - do not recommend this for tracking warranty purposes until corrected.Version: 3.6

CSV Import Doesn’t Work and Develop Doesn’t RespondMy low rating is based both on a non-working feature and the lack of developer responsiveness. I had high hopes for Nest Egg, which I recently purchased along with its CSV Import add-on. Unfortunately, although the app store description says I should be able to import data from existing spreadsheets, that function is not working. I have a CSV file that contains items I’d like to use as a starting point for my inventory; although that CSV file is in my iCloud drive and has been downloaded to my phone, Nest Egg doesn’t seem to see it and there’s no option to tell it where to look. I have reached out to the developers twice—via the website and from within the app—but they have not responded. Maybe they’ll finally respond here..Version: 4.2.2

Ok. Could be betterI wish I could add items with a photo in quick succession with a big easy to tap button like your competitors do. It feels slow to have to tap the tiny plus on an awkward section of screen then tap to add photo and then enter a description..Version: 4.1.63

NEEDS PDF REPORT FEATUREHighly requested PDF formatting for reports so this app can be used for insurance purposes. Insurance company asks for photos of inventory to be able to process claim. Currently cvs and html formats do not meet those needs. Decent app, just adding PDF reports would make it great!.Version: 4.2.2

Needs some WorkThe barcode scanning is klunky, slow, and in many cases totally ineffective. There’s plenty of apps out there that get this right with the same bar codes in the same conditions within less than a second compared to having to try multiple angles, distances and other adjustments. Simply not reliable, or usable, with a better barcode scanner this is a 4-5 star app..Version: 4.2.13

Import tool doesn’t workI purchased the data import upgrade but couldn’t figure out how to use it. I followed the instructions but there was very little support on the site. I’ve got everything in excel and don’t plan to re-enter it all. $1 loss..Version: 4.2.14

Doesn't read barcodesEven after I downloaded the app it requires to read the barcodes it doesn't read them. Yet The app I downloaded can read them and tells me where they are for sale. Save you money and pass on this app. It should be free because it's obviously in development stages. I feel totally ripped off!.Version: 3.7.6

UI is poorly designedThis app is probably useful if you just want to create a financial inventory for insurance purposes. In the (hopefully) unlikely event that you have a fire or are victim of a burglary, you could more easily report a claim. Of course, that means very detailed record-keeping and data entry to enter items into the app. The entry form itself is good, so that’s helpful. If you want this app to actually FIND something in your house, I’d look elsewhere. The user experience is extremely limited. There is actually a good summary screen that allows you to see total value by category or location. Again, that assumes you are entering very detailed purchase price data for every item. But it would be completely logical to continue the drill down to see the contents of a location, or where items within a category are located. Sadly, the developer did not think of this. Instead, you have a single form with a search box that display the results in a single column list, completely unorganized. So you have to scroll through the list to see where anything is actually stored. Bottom line - if you are using this for insurance, it’s decent. If you want a home inventory system, look elsewhere. Overall, I regret spending the $4..Version: 4.1.40

Good app, would be great with a few improvementsEasy to use; however, it appears the App does not recognise barcodes outside of USA.Version: 4.1.69

Nest Egg Scanning IssuesYour app needs some serious help. I’m trying to scan movies into the database. It will scan 3 or 4 in a row no problem then won’t work at all. The barcode that shows up doesn’t match what is on the movie case. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 times of scanning it before it will get it right. Some it just won’t scan at all. Sometimes it says it not even a movie but some other thing entirely. Out of about 100 I’ve tried so far about 25% didn’t scan at all and another 20% that did scan say they are uncategorized. This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to give feedback about an app. When I pay for an app I expect it to work. I know there can be issues but this is ridiculous. Cant wait to see how it performs with other items..Version: 4.1.68

Barcode Scanner doesn’t workUsing the scanner is hit or miss, mostly miss. I tried scanning the barcode on my refrigerator and tv, but it won’t scan. Very frustrating..Version: 4.1.65

Clunky and weirdThis app costs $4 and has a awkward clunky way of inputting information. You have to be careful not to put a space after the item you name or it won’t save, which is weird and annoying. Also if you make a mistake and put more info in the description good luck trying to copy and paste it into notes. I canceled a step and my entire entry was deleted without warning! Poof! The only smooth thing about this app is the author’s sales pitch on the App Store. Update: I thought I paid $3.99, which is $4. I cannot see any prices visible to me when I look on the App Store. My apologies if I am wrong. I am deleting the app when I submit this, but I wish you the best. I might have just been annoyed that information I had spent a long time inputting was deleted. Overall the app is a good idea..Version: 4.1.68

Import is BrokenAdditional cost to IMPORT, however, appears broken. Exported ITEMS to create a Export Archive and a template to use. Filled out the CSV file and saved UTF8. Shared with Nest Egg and can see file in Nest Egg app under Shared Files, but cannot see the file in IMPORT. Saved again as zip file, shared again with Nest Egg, could see file in shared folder in app, but could not see it in IMPORT. Broken, please fix, help, or refund..Version: 4.2.24

Useless- its bar code scanner doesn't work!I've tried a couple other inventory apps - one had an awesome bar code scanner which auto entered data of your stuff, but required a subscription and they kept your data; another I tried had not enough picture storage per item; this one claimed to be private with no subscriptions (which seems true) however it doesn't even have the bar code scanner built in!! It is a separate app by another company and doesn't work at all for data entry and doesn't find "obscure" items like an iPhone 4 by its bar code.?! Plus being a separate app that is just launched by Nest Egg, it means it this app's author has zero control to fix anything to make it work. Without the automatic data entry this inventory app is useless! If I had enough time to hand type everything in for insurance purposes, that itself would be a full-time job and then I wouldn't have any stuff to insure in the first place. Clearly this aspect of the app is critical and I took a risk buying the app (tho wouldn't if I knew it just launches a separate app from a different company as the scanner) but it just plain doesn't work for bar codes from inside the USA or outside. I feel I should get a refund but the app developer stopped replying to my emails after he couldn't solve that it didn't work. Oh well. Don't make the same mistake if housing want to type everything in. Plus data is not encrypted and there is no decent reporting output for insurance purposes....Version: 3.3

Barcode Scanning Doesn't WorkI've only recently bought this app. One of the features I was excited to use wad the barcode Scanning, however nothing wants to scan or even recognise that there's a barcode to scan. Very unhappy..Version: 4.2.6

A ScamSeriously? Nest Egg Lite sucked me into inputting data all day in the free app, but cut me off at 25 items & forced me to purchase the Nest Egg app for THREE DOLLARS MORE than it’s advertised for sale on the website. Now the app developers want ANOTHER TWO BUCKS just so I can transfer all the data from Nest Egg Lite into this overpriced piece of crap. I’m not impressed. Not at all. There should be a way to return apps for a refund..Version: 4.1.69

Very frustrating to startI just purchased the app but I am unable to add anything to the inventory, I’ve tried to scan codes or search for appliance brands and nothing comes up 😣.Version: 4.2.2

Used to be greatI have used this for years and now it’s the most confusing app I have ever used. It’s completely different now and not in a good way. Really disappointing.Version: 4.2.6
