β Another Great Game!For years gamers have been asking for game companies to translate hit Japanese games, but most companies refused to, insisting the world won't like them as it's too "Japanese" for the world. Well thank you Kairosoft!! I liked running a game company, loved managing a hot spring, and having an absolute blast managing a school! β Amazing, as usual.This game has the exact same addictive aspect as the other two games, and is much more complex. The 'slow start' that people refer to is mainly because you start with only 1 year of students. This means that it takes three in game years for your school to have all three years. This can be slightly boring at the start, but it is needed to 'set the scene' and if you actually lose patience in that time (15-20 mins) then you probably would not enjoy the game anyway. Think of it like any other strategy game, you need to build your school up first. Graphically, the game has a very retro feel. These games are not created for the iOS devices, and it can look a bit crap on retina displays, but if you pinch the screen and zoom out, all is well and the game looks quite nice. I never thought anything bad about the graphics. For the most part, the same repetitive (and rather annoying) song plays, but you get used to it and it isn't that bad really. The gameplay is great, it is fun and addictive, while being as complex as you want it to be. The more enthusiastic players can place their rooms to minimise travel time and increase productivity, but the game is perfectly beatable if you just put stuff down wherever you want, it appeals to everybody. β Amazing!I love all kairosoft games, and when this came out, I had to get it straight away. As ever, I think Β£2.50 is taking the mick, but I still had to buy it. At first, I was a little disappointed as the tutorial is a little confusing and doesn't explain it very well, but about 2/3 game years in, I became 100% addicted- it grew on me. I love the graphics and music! So cute.. Ha:) it made me really sad when my schools first student left, as he had all 100 stats, and was just awesome. But I was pleasantly surprised when a new, young version of him came in as a first year again:D Overall, this is a MUST BUY! even at 2.50 it's worth every penny!.Version: 1.1.0

β New favourite gameHaving played the previous 2 Kairosoft games, I was very excited to play this one and it has not let me down. Another excellent and addictive simulation! I definitely needed the 'how to play' guide, and to be honest, it needs more explanation to ease in new players. I imagine if I hadn't played the other Kairosoft games, I would find getting into Academy quite tricky; there are a lot of stats and menus to get your head around. But overall, Academy has so much charm and depth compared to other management simulations that I can't fault it. Love it!.Version: 1.1.0
β Great, addictive simulationI was a huge fan of Game Dev Story but found Hot Springs Story to be a bit too tedious and fiddly and couldn't really get into it. For this reason I was quite hesitant in purchasing their latest game Pocket Academy. Despite this I took a risk and bought it and it definately paid off. This game is like a combination of their two earlier releases and it really works. It has the pick up and play feel that Game Dev Story had and it also includes the more complicated elements of simulations such as building facilities and environment more like Hot Springs Story. The sense of accomplishment is greater with this game and you really do become connected to your little pocket academy. The replay value is a little lacking but there are five different maps so the motivation to start again from scratch on a different map allows for multiple games. However it might be tough giving up your successful school to start over again. All in all a great purchase. I bought it full price and feel it was worth it for the gaming experience. At the new, greatly discounted price you should leap at the opportunity of adding this little gem to your collection. Buy it now!.Version: 1.1.0

It keeps you in constant focus. You need strategy if you plan on having zoo. I've managed to save as much as I can I finally made my own zoo! Yey me. :p The game is easy to understand and it's quick to beat. Pretty much you're in a constant struggle to maintain a high ranking. Your goal: be the #1 school around the area you're established in. I'm other words, if you pick the mountain side, you have to be #1 in that location. As for other cool things: your students find love! It's cute and fun seeing the rejections happen. As you take "challenging" exams, your tuition goes up. Which means more money in your pockets. BUT!!! Facility usage - the teacher's salaries = the money you'll be lest with + student tuition = the money you'll have for ONE of the 3 semesters. Makes sense? I love building schools, I love the silly mental images I create out of my students lives, I love that I can hire a duck, a bear, a monkey, and a ghost to be teachers! β Plodding but addictiveLacking the immediacy of Game Dev Story, there is however much more to do in Pocket Academy. It must be said that the difficulty curve is much steeper and unless you're willing to pinch every penny, you'll find yourself bankrupt very early on. Once the students (and cash) start to flow in though, the game becomes one largely about the pleasures of design and creation as you re-live everyone's fantasy - to go back to school and call all the shots. Unfortunately the game does slow down again when just about everything's built but this makes the game no less addictive. Perhaps Cracksoft would be a better name for this developer..Version: 1.1.0

β A slow starter, but stick with itI imagine pretty much everyone coming to this will have played the sublime Game Dev Story. That simple to play but hugely addictive title must have claimed hundreds of thousands of hours now, but it was ultimately a game with fairly limited depth. Kairosoft followed it up with the much deeper Hot Sptings Story, which combined the ease of play with more mechanics and depth, but it lost some of the charm in the process. Now we have Pocket Academy, and the depth is hugely increased again. This is now a pretty complex game, and one which is sadly difficult to pick up at first as it does a very poor job in explaining how it all works. It's also *very* slow for a good while, but stick with it, as it does pick up after a few hours. As for the charm, there's probably more here than in Hot Springs, but still less than Game Dev. Kairo make excellent handheld games, but they need to work on better turorials and pacing, and they could also do with making these games play better on a touch screen. They're all ports of games designed for Japanese phones with keypads, so when translated to touch the experience can sometimes be rather fiddly. Still, there's hours of entertainment here, if you stick with it during it's difficult first 2-3 hours..Version: 1.1.0

β Fun and addictingFor anyone who doesn't know kairosoft, they literally cornered the mobile phone game market in japan with dozens upon dozens of games that have yet to be ported to the US. Hot springs story was by far my favorite and game dev story is a classic. As far as pocket academy goes, so far it is my least favorite only because I'm in the 7th year of my game and I quite frankly just have nothing else to do but keep grades up and upgrade teachers. The game has become a bit repetitive at this point, but I have a feeling it'll pick up when I move on to bigger better maps.Version: 1.1.0

You don't have all the buildings such as an art room or science lab because different maps would have those buildings. My Opinions: If you have same number of teachers as classrooms you might not be getting the money you want so just fire the ones that don't have alot of education and focus on 1-3 (preferably 1 for less salary, and also depends on how much money you make To get more students try building hotspots, improving grades, and making couples, because it all depends on your schools popularity (a way to help that is to get a student to score a 500 on the final test or change someones career path to a high paying one like spy or int. designer). β Great but Difficult GameThis game is like any other Kairosoft game, it fun and addictive. But the only difference is that its difficult (but in a good way). For one thing I'm always begging to have some money. I spend most of the time just looking at the screen and not doing anything. But when I do get some money its only about $1000 and that does not go very far. Another complaint is that the cutscenes get a bit tedious after watching them about a dozen times. I honestly donβt enjoy having to watch unskippable cut-scenes every time a girl and a guy bump into each other in the hall and decide to fall in love. If you are looking to buy your first Kairosoft game do not get this, get Game Dev Story or Hot Spring Story. You will find them much easier and enjoyable to play (not that this isn't enjoyable). β Very solid little game.I had never heard of these "Story" games by Kairosoft up until a few days ago, and I made the decision to download Pocket Academy after reading floods of positive reviews. The school concept appealed most to me as ironically, I'm studying my Bachelor of Education. The purchase was worth it. I can easily say Pocket Academy has been my most played game in the last few days. Without a doubt, it's as everyone is reviewing it. Solid, addictive, and complex. Two constructive criticisms I have: 1. Please consider adding a sort of "endless" mode that separately keeps track of high scores (or not) that you can put an infinite amount of hours into if you wanted to. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but personally, I love simulation games except when they forcefully end after allowing the user to progress so much (e.g - Harvest Moon on SNES). I feel Pocket Academy forces you (arguably encourages you) to restart, albeit in a new game-type style after the end of the 10th year. 2. When building special ground specifically on raised terrain, accidentally building for example a sidewalk, and placing it on a mountain side is surprisingly hard to remove once it's been joined to an adjacent hallway. I still am unable to erase one tile of sidewalk because it's so awkwardly placed at such an odd angle. Recommended!.Version: 1.1.0

β All time favourite kairosoft gameThis is the second of this type of game I tried and was by far my favourite so far. It helps once you understand how the combos work and that you can google them online. I have played through the game maybe 3 times in the last few years. β Fantastic Gem of a GameKairosoft has a habit of making some excellent little games and Pocket Academy is no exception. Here you must design and manage a school while balancing your budget with school performance. It is both challenging and rewarding as your school evolves and your students improve. It has some building elements similar to Hot Springs Story but that is not the focus. Academy is certainly and enjoyable management sim and something I'll be going back to. If you like this and the Kairosoft brand then you'll be happy to know that they have a vast number of games released in Japan and are gradually translating them for release in the US. β Just the type of app I wanted!I always loved playing simulation games like Rollercoaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon, so when I discovered this game I bought it in a heart-beat! This game lets you build up and manage a school. You hire the teachers, buy classrooms, gyms, clubs, other facilities, and fun things like panda rooms and trampolines. The game takes just a little while to get the hang of, but once you get going you won't be able to put your iPod down! This app is a must! P.S.- Kairosoft: You should look into creating more games like this. For example: games where you build a zoo, farm, theme park, city, mall, etc! β Deserves 5 StarsThis is a surprisingly simple concept of a game but it is actually amazingly addictive and very enjoyable to play. I just wish that every room would be available on every level because some have pools, gyms, and soccer fields while others dont. It is hard to make money but just dont spend any at the start and just focus on waiting until a monthly income is coming instead of a debit. Once you start making money( even very small amounts) you can start buying things. I recommend getting the bulletin board as soon as you can tho because if u have requests youll tend to make your students happier and encourage new students to come when you fullfill those requests. Bottom line: Dont spend any money unless your making money because if u blow all your money on research and rooms...teacher salaries and monthly upkeep will put u in the red really fast..Version: 1.1.0

However there are a couple things that bother me a bit 1. Mascots: PLEASE add them to make each individual school unique in its own way 2. More Clubs and evolvement: Though I'm at year 2 there are some clubs that should be there right away like Chess Club or leadership and let more people be intrested. 3. Football: I know you may deny this, but can we have an high school American football team. 4. Jerseys/uniforms: I would like to customize my own jersey and watch my clubs play games, dance and act. 5. Make money easier: At first I was struggling on how to make money, so can you please make it clearer. 6. Easier to get friendships. β Forever one of my favoritesThis game was one of my first Kairosoft games ever. It is absolutely so much fun and a great time killer if youβre ever bored. There is so much to do and once you get a hang of the strategy it becomes a piece of cake. Each map is super unique, with their own challenges and layouts to overcome. One thing I do hope that happens is an updated sequel. Mega Mallβs sequel looks super promising and Iβm excited to play itβ this game is a tad old and it would be very refreshing to see a modern version of this game. Please not F2P thoughβ¦ those games are typically not my favorite. More character options, make the personality traits actually matter, more class events, etc. would really give this game more depth and personalization.
