✓ Skype latestI love the latest Skype app, there has been a significant improvement in the audio and video quality since the last big release. Although when using it for the first time you would wonder what the new icons are for and whether it’s become complicated, but u get an understanding on repeat use. The only concern is whether the not so techie older generation will struggle because of the many features spread from different areas in the app. I also like the snapshot and recording feature and use it quite often, so that I can keep memories of many in the moment chats. The only complain I have is that the app always records the video half n half, I would like the option of seeing less of myself and more of the loved ones in the recordings.Version: 8.45

✓ It’s great, except for this one thing.Skype for IPad is still great, connection is easy, audio is clear etc. it’s fine, but there’s just a simple thing I would like added — I would like if there was just a simple function to like, remove some abilities from people, that only ‘admins’ (set by the creator of the chat group) and the creator can remove. Like making so that one person is unable to go around changing the name and pfp. Or to stop them from being able to remove everyone, especially the owner. It’s super annoying, and whilst creating a new chat is easy I would just like to not go thru the extra hassle. Other than that, don’t improve anything, PLEASE, just add this and I’ll give 5 stars. ✓ Able to see my parents!I love Skype! Thanks to Skype, I’m able to talk several times a week to my parents in Florida. They are 85 & 87, and I had to cancel a trip in June to see them due to Covid-19 fears. The fact that I can sit in my office in Washington State and see my folks, know they’re doing well, means more than I can say. ✓ Update ideaI love this app. I used to use it about a year ago and i loved the sound of the sound when you called someone. Only when i found a video with the title ‘19 sound variations of the NEW skype sound’. So, i watched it. I found the sound was still epic as usual, but i kinda liked the other one better (I am not saying you have to get rid of it). I downloaded the skype app on my phone (i already had it on my ipad) and phoned myself. And yep, it was real. So, the idea i have for the app is to (on settings) choose which one you want to use. ✓ Great communication toolIt is very easy to talk to people all over the world for FREE with Skype. I all the features, like screen sharing, face cam and chat. My only recommendation is a setting to disable ALL notifications completely. They pop up without warning and are very loud. I have disabled all app notifications and notifications in settings and they still pop up. Do not disturb does not work either. PLEASE FIX THIS.Version: 8.32
✓ Updated versionNot really sure that I am going to enjoy this as much as the previous one.. seems to me that despite the overall quality being pretty excellent there are far too many unnecessary changes. I think it would be fair to say that this app has been a great way for family to keep in touch ( now I expect my parents and many more senior citizens will struggle to get to grips with it) especially as the experience of seeing your relatives in real time is brilliant when they are so far away often abroad. Most times it is really good there are odd days it cuts out but a wonderful help to me Potteringran I sent this review some time ago but I feel exactly the same way. My daughter works in Afghanistan and it is just wonderful to be in constant contact with her while I am looking after her two sons. I am 84 so as you can imagine it really helps me. Through the phone, tablet, laptop or desktop I can see and interact with the people I love. I turned in many, many notices that the dial pad wouldn’t work. Something fixed it. I assume it was the update. First, sometimes when my friends and I are on a call afterwards the whole group chat will disappear without a trace. ✓ OK for Casual UsersGot my account many years ago back when everything was on desktop PC and people on both ends of the call had to be pretty high tech wizards just to make (and keep) consistent connection. Over the years, I would use FaceTime or Webex or various other means to do most video calls, so Skype sat idle most of the time. A few months back, I ended up sending my phone through the washing machine, so as a temporary workaround I loaded Skype on my iPad so I could at least make outgoing calls without my cell phone. To my surprise, it actually is fairly capable in that mode. TBH, I would welcome a simplified interface like an old school flip phone for times when you just want a quick voice call and not a multiparty videoconferencing extravaganza. ✓ Still the best qualityI have used Skype since the first year it was introduced and still believe it is far better quality than many of its successors. Other competitors that claim to ‘go very fast’ or advocate being in ‘groups’ still do not manage to deliver good quality video and audio and reliable screen sharing. Skype is the tool of choice for me when conducting online ‘TV’ interviews as I can pretty much guarantee to get synchronised audio and video and great pictures. ✓ Pretty goodOverall, skype is an amazing app, and it is completely free. I use this for calls, stuff, and other purposes. It is really nice and simple to use, and is reliable with good internet. I also like the feature to ‘quote’ your messages, which I think is really creative. There are also some downsides, such as how anyone can search you up, and contact you. You also need to pay to call from the person’s private number, and there is something called Skype Premium, which I have never got, but have heard about. Some additional stuff are: -animated emojis (these are sooo cool, and I love them!) - different sticker things - easy to upload files for sending Some bad things are: - as I mentioned before, someone can randomly search you up, - sometimes doesn’t pick up voice and audio - lags if you don’t have the best internet Skype is also available in mobile, PC, and iPad (at least with my experience) I would suggest it, and it is a well rounded app to use! There are occasionally problems that probably should not be laid at Microsoft’s door. These include echo/feedback and intermittent video freezing. ✓ An excellent app.Skype is easy to setup and use. I use Skype on a Mac desktop and iPad. I only use it to maintain contact with friends and relatives overseas. ✓ Totally happy with SkypeI use Skype on both an iPad Pro and a MacBook Pro. Just now I had two phone conversations with friends in Germany and Sweden. The sound was loud and clear; the connection solid, and the service very affordable. I got rid of my landline after two years of trouble with broadband and Telstra and now connect only via Vodafone wifi to the internet. Should have done it two years earlier. When I Skype the UK, there is often an echo and the other party say “You’re breaking up” or “We’re only getting every other word” then it will be fine for a few minutes or sometimes the picture will freeze for a few seconds. The hardware seems to make a big difference in performance. Older stuff does work as well as newer stuff. All in all I’m very happy with the apps performance and features. Updated 12/18: the app works well. It all seems to depend upon the bandwidth of the connection, which is probably reflected in the compression algorithms and the power of the computers on either end as well. It may take a while to learn the platform, so friendliness is about 7 (in a 10 scale). I haven’t been able to share audio from mi iPad (like music or the audio of a video) while sharing my screen. The feature is apparently available for PC users, but either is not available on iPad/iOS or is hidden somehow that you can’t easily find it. ✓ Does exactly what it says it does… but the blocking system has a major flawThis app works brilliantly, however when you block someone the only way to unblock them is by clicking the unblock button in the conversation tab. The problem about this is that you can also delete conversations. If you block someone you will probably want to delete the conversation, thus deleting the unblock button. If you wanted to unblock them afterwards… it is impossible. I would assume the only way to have them unblocked is to delete the app, and make a new account. There should be a place in settings called “blocked profiles” (or whatever else), where you can unblock people you blocked before. I think this app is very good at connecting people and also provides some pretty impressive video calls, and if it weren't for that one issue i’d give it five stars..Version: 8.93.1

First, I would suggest there is a feature that shows someone is on their device, not on Skype but on their device. that’s optional, but feel free to add it in if you want. I would also like to say that there is a bug for one of my pals that says they are online all the time. every time I log in, it shows they are active. it makes it really hard to see when they were last online, if you could fix that it would be much appreciated. Lastly for now, I really suggest that the feature where you look up someone’s name gets removed. It happened with me and my pals where random people started texting us. In case you didn’t know, there are minors on your app. it could take the minors to adults and could lead to predatory behavior. it’s not just that as well. can you at least make it more accessible to disable? it was kinda hard for me to find how to turn it off. It is so nice to be texting and call people on the same app. It’s so annoying to always needing to go to one app to another. I also like the emojis and moving pictures you can send to your friends and family. ✓ Skype on my iPad Mini 2 with blazing fast WiFiA few hours ago I downloaded Skype on an iPad Mini 2 that I inherited 10 days ago from my brother. I’ve been using Skype on my Windows 7 PC. I did a Skype video chat with my brother on the iPad Mini, and it was perfect. We are over 1,000 miles apart and it was like being in the same room ... even though I walked out on my deck & back in, & he put his smartphone in his pocket while he went out to his car and then drove 15 minutes to get home. On his way indoors his phone went into his briefcase. The Skype connection was seamless & the quality was excellent. I should mention that my original plan had been to connect the iPad Mini to WiFi by setting up a hotspot on my Windows 7 PC & sharing. The iPad couldn’t find the network, and my cable company said I needed a router, so I got a new NETGEAR AC1900 (model C7000v2) dual band WiFi router modem combo at Walmart 4 days ago. It has a 5GHz processor delivering speeds of up to 1.9 Gbps. It also has 24x8 channel bonding (24 download & 8 upload channels for extreme speed & consistent connectivity). With this equipment, Skype is a dream. Of course, I’ve only used Skype for half an hour on the iPad Mini, & I haven’t added contacts yet (I’m old school & probably won’t), so if I start having problems, I’ll come back & edit my opinion. :).Version: 8.59

There are constant updates — so what I write might change (for better or worse .... ) at any time after this Review (which I’m writing on October 29, 2018) — depending on whether an Update improves or complicates matters. Usually updates improve — but not always. Most of the time, the technical aspects of my connection are pretty good — but sometimes they are so poor, that I have to leave Skype and go to another application. I WISH there was a way for me to identify WHERE the problem is at such times (ie, with my connection; with the connection of the person I am speaking to — or with Skype). But overall, connections are BETTER than they were a few years ago. Overall, the system of organizing contacts is fairly efficient — but sometimes a bit challenging on non-computer devices to identify and classify contacts into an easy-to-find grouping. ✓ ExcellentSince lock down I’ve been having my piano lessons through Skype. They have been absolutely brilliant. No issues with sound, freezing or lagging unlike other apps that I have had to use through work. I used to use Skype about 14 years ago (give or take!) and found the picture to be very grainy and talking sounded quite tinny... as if you were in an Anderson shelter! 😂😂 but now having returned to it they’ve totally improved by 100%. ✓ Saves money at holiday homeIf you have a Microsoft subscription the phone calls all seem to be free. For example, you might need to ring your U.K. bank, insurance company, etc where calls are in a queue, and the cost of the waiting in the U.K. would be minimal, but the cost of calling from abroad would be high. Also people on the other end of your call do not know that you are calling from outside the U.K. so there is no need to open if you are dealing with business. So your tenant might have sent you an email saying tried to call your UK mobile as have an issue. ✓ It’s getting betterI think Skype is great it have improved so much over the years! I use it almost every week To talk to my friends! I only have one suggestion maybe for the group chats a couple people have specific permissions such as removing people. Sure it can be annoying if you don’t have that permission but it stops people from getting out of hand. And also when I’m calling someone from time to time the app crashes. And I go to open the app, it sighed me out! I log back in. But it crashes as soon as I log in! It stays like that for a couple hours maybe days! And it’s very annoying..Version: 8.49
✓ Fab appLove Skype and can phone brother and sister in law in Canada regularly. It’s clear and I rarely have any issues. Love the subscriptions to specified countries, much more economical now. ✓ Yes! Skype is working on iPad 9 again!Finally! My one year old iPad has been unable to work with Skype since July but this last update fixed whatever was causing it to freeze every time I downsized the keyboard, scrolled up or down, uploaded anything, searched for an emoji, switched chats, opened the app from a notification, etc. It was so frustrating not being able to use my favorite chat app for so long! Skype has the longest text limit that I know of (a must for a writer like me), and it lets me copy and select multiple texts at once, and send reaction gifs and birthday cards to friends. I’ve really missed it. All the others I tried were not the same. Thank you, Apple and Microsoft team for finally making it possible for this long time consumer to enjoy the app again!! (For clarification, it worked fine on my phone this whole time, but I prefer using the app on my iPad at home, and I don’t have a computer. ✓ Awsome AppI use this 24/7 and I never have problems.! Don’t listen to the haters of Skype because it is the BEST!! When I call people on my iPad on Skype it is so smooth! There is nearly any glitches every three weeks! You should get this app also because, if you communicate with someone when another’s have horrible internet it is not that bad because you can hear the voice but it takes only a SECOND to get back in program. ✓ Amazing, but huge problem.I’ve been using Skype for years, and I love it. Just today I decided to call my cousins, but after about 3 seconds of being on the call, I got kicked off not only the call, but the app too. Then I went back on the app and called again but the same thing happened over and over again. Then I tried to update Skype. After the update it still did the same thing. For the 3 seconds that I was on the call for, my cousins said that they couldn’t hear me, and that I kept freezing. I re started my device and tried again. And still, it did not work. Then I tried calling with another device, and still, it did not work! This has never happened before in all the years I’ve been using this app. Thank you for reading this, and I still recommend using Skype, but is just like to get this fixed..Version: 8.90

✓ Great app, but too many updatesI use this app all the time to talk to my 87 year old father. However, whenever there is an update chances are that my father is not able to make the connection. Since I use Apple and he Microsoft, I typically do not know where the changes are and cannot tell him which button to press where. ✓ Great Voice Over IP!My only complaint is not seeing photos from my Apple Address Book, it used show photos from Apple Address which made it nice and easy to find a contact, and I wish the Skype company would bring that feature back. Other than that it’s a great Voice Over IP Service, the software works with virtually ANY internet unlike Comcast’s phone software which requires an outrageous connection speed, the Skype software is very efficient. Skype’s paid service is very reasonable by comparison to ANY landline or cell service, I highly recommend their paid service for calling outside of their network..Version: 8.45

✓ Good but needs one fix.Skype has been one of the best messaging apps, plus it has great video calling. However, in the calls you need to tell us who we were kicked by. Because in all my large calls, people often get kicked and we don’t know who the culprit is. This often leads to calls being canceled quickly and the people in it being very frustrated. ✓ ExcellentI had a business presentation with a client in India from uk here. Everything was nice and clear and the presenter was able to share his screen . We spoke for almost 2hours and we never had any problem or for once got disconnected Good app. Hope in future Skype can improve more for business presentation and one more thing one can actually record the call or video and both parties will know it’s. being recorded . ✓ Love itI cannot praise this App enough and to be honest don’t know what I would have done without it in Lockdown (my parents are elderly and vulnerable). I have been able to teach my 80 yr old Mum how to use it (it’s very intuitive). ✓ PerfectMe and my Dad haven’t been able to see each other for ages! I have an iPad and he has a Samsung so I could only talk to him if I used my mam’s phone with messenger (witch I am not aloud as I am only a child). This was quite hard because my mam had to use her phone at the same time. Then I came up with the idea of wats app but that wouldn’t work either because there was no secure way for me to message. Then my mam told me about this app Skype and now me and my dad can call each other when ever and message when ever.
