✓ Charges continuouslyThe app doesn’t have several of the songs we were looking for, so we used it just for the one week we had subscribed for to try it, then never used it again. Switched to using CDs and YouTube. But it continued to charge weekly for 3 weeks in a row before the receipt came through on email letting me know it charges continuously - stopped it then and will be sure to never subscribe again!.Version: 2.5.2
✓ Difficult to share on kids deviceOk, so we got the singing machine for my daughter’s birthday, she was very excited! but then we had to get a subscription to have more songs to sing, ok, so as the parent I got the subscription on my device and now I cannot seem to get it to work/ log in on my daughter’s device because her device has a different Apple ID i guess? and although SM Karaoke shows up in the family sharing it does not share? The singing machine seems like a great little unit but I am not letting my daughter have my device every time she want to use it so we will likely be returning this to the store and of course, now we are out of pocket the cost of the yearly subscription too 😖 It is a great idea but it just doesn’t seem to work if you want to use it on another device than what was used to set it up originally..Version: 4.8.5

✓ Waste of moneyWe were so excited about this product . No where does it mention the extra 15 bucks a month or 9.99 a week for the songs . Also I couldn’t get the picture on my tv . Not sure if it’s only compatible with a smart tv which I don’t have , or if it’s something I’m doing . I paired the machine with my phone and a blue screen came up on my tv that said paired but when I downloaded AND bought the app , the lyrics only played on my phone and not the tv. Needless to say I had to hook my laptop up to my tv to display lyrics for my daughter to sing a long with . Don’t waste your money. Just buy a microphone and an amp ..Version: 3.3.3

✓ Total waste of moneyWe purchased the karaoke machine for our daughter, not knowing we have to pay $15 a month just to use it?! App description says you get five free songs a month. The box says you get a “bonus” five songs. So I downloaded the app thinking we could live with five songs a month, but nope. No five songs. Not even one song. ✓ Beware of double subscriptionsSo apparently there are two ways of subscribing? And neither the app nor the singing machine recognizes the other. Yet the machine instructions encourage you to download the app? The singing machine is actually great but the app is not. I first tried to subscribe with the app assuming it would link automatically with the physical singing machine via blue tooth. But it didn’t and eventually the app would disappear suddenly everytime it was reopened The first is via the app of which charges your account via apple subscriptions. The second requests a credit card and charges through your singing machine website. As I couldn’t around this and the app kept crashing I have in and subscribed again assuming the app did not charge. But now that I understand the two do not actually connect to each other as one account I’m unable to delete the subscription on the app. As I purchased the actual singing machine from Costco I received a $10 discount $69/year) when subscribing from the machine directly on to the website but the app version on my cell phone cost me an additional $79. I will call tomorrow to request a refund on the app and strongly suggest that somebody should make it more clear in the instructions that the app is not needed to run the singing machine..Version: 4.8.5

✓ Subscription fee is way too expensiveIf you are a DJ doing a few shows a week then maybe $18 per month makes sense. But for a family opening a Christmas gift who might use the karaoke machine a few times a year the fee is idiotic. I can’t believe some marketing genius was able to convince their boss that $18 a month was reasonable for a casual home user. Luckily there are free YouTube karaoke videos that work just fine with this machine. Otherwise I’d be asking the person who bought this if they got a gift receipt..Version: 2.4.3
✓ Love the machine, just a couple concerns about appThe machine is cool. I like it, super cool!! 😁But the app is my concern. You only get a couple of free songs, I only got five basic Christmas songs like Silent Night and Deck The Halls. I wanted to just do a week of subscription to see if I liked it but the price for each week is pretty expensive, more than a dollar per day. I just wish there way a one time purchase available. ✓ Only recommend to very rich peopleFirst of all, it said nothing about paying to listen to songs. Second of all, if you didn't want to pay you can use the THREE songs it gives you. Third of all, you can only connect it to a smart tv, which is very stupid. You should be able to connect to any tv that you own. There is only a few good things about this app like, they have really good songs for any ages but like I already say before, you have to buy them. Fourth of all, you can only do a 20 second preview of these songs 🙄😑. Anyways, I only recommend this app if you have a lot of money you want to spend on karaoke..Version: 4.6.3

So I was in this app and you only have 5 song that you can sing the whole way through without having to pay 10 dollars weekly or 15 dollars monthly. You don’t get many songs and the other songs that you sing are like 20 seconds of them. I do not recommend this app unless you want to pay the price. ✓ Doesn’t support family sharingOur physical machine broke so we decided to use this app. It’s great except that it doesn’t support family sharing. The notes say it does for subscriptions longer than 7 days, but in reality it doesn’t. So I bought an app intending to pass it off to my kids … and I can’t. ✓ Scam artistsBought their karaoke machine for a party. You can’t even display the lyrics on screen unless you already have an apple tv or you buy their CDs. Downloaded the app. You can’t even play a full song unless you agree to pay them. Then your subscription auto-renews and they don’t give refunds. I requested a refund for the auto-renew payments because I’m tight on cash and I didn’t want to use their awful machine or app after the failed attempt to use it at a party. No refunds. What a sick way to prey on people who want to sing with friends. Also their app is badly designed with no regard to UX, and I would know. Their architecture is laughable, and their ridiculous notifications will pop up during mid day and suggest you sing karaoke. YEAH, SURE. Clueless money hungry people over at Singing Machine. Especially considering the many options people have to enjoy karaoke for less money.
